Compulsive? 150 Times Per Day
• T-Mobile USA CEO Philipp Humm said at CTIA in
  2012 that mobile phone owners "pick up their phone
  150 times per day"
• This is in line with earlier Nokia stats that the world
  average is already 150 times per day
• That means we look at our phones once every 6 and
  half minutes of every waking hour of every day

• Tiffany's the jewelry brand brought in R/GA to design
  a mobile-optimized website, which still looks and
  feels like Tiffany's online e-shop
• After optimizing the mobile website, it grew jewelry
  sales by 125%
• (Tomi comment - so clearly there cannot be any
  'one web' - the PC web is PC-optimized, and the
  mobile web really needs to be mobile-optimized!)

• Associated Press Managing Editors held their annual
  conference in Denver in September 2011, opened it
  with shock statement: "Mobile is future of news."
• The APME CEO and President, Tom Curley said:
  "Media companies lost revenues with the internet
  but have a chance to change that with mobile."

• Adidas ran an engagement marketing campaign in
  Egypt on Mobinil network using Alcatel-Lucent's new
  Optism mobile marketing platform.
• 200,000 opt-in customers only a months from launch
• The campaign of opt-in messaging had peak
  response rates of 55% and over the whole
  campaign, produced 35% response rate.

Pakistan Solve Adult Illiteracy
• Pakistan has issue of adult illiteracy with women.
• Among the youth, both boys and girls get to go to
  school, but previously in the male-dominated Muslim
  country mostly boys went to school and girls did not.
• Today especially in rural Pakistan many adult women
  find themselves disconnected from society as they
  are the ones unable to read
• Simple SMS tutorials have been introduced to help
  older women achieve literacy at their own pace, often
  helped by younger women who already can read

• Form is via MXit app for basic featurephones that

• In Africa a PC is not a viable for all
  students to do math, but a phone is

• North Face the outdoor clothing brand ran a mobile
  campaign in China to plant virtual flags
• The contest was that anyone could claim any location
  in China if they were first to get there and plant a red
  North Face flag to the destination.
• In 18 days, 651,000 virtual red flags planted
• All who earned a flag, were rewarded with North Face
  coupons and offers
• Sales increased by 106% to 15 million RMB (about
  2M USD), the campaign had an ROI of over 300%.

SMS Street Light Control
• A service called Dial4Light has launched the world's
  first remote control for street lights in Germany town
  of Lemgo (pop 42K) near Hannover & Dortmund
• Street lights on side streets are not turned on for the
  whole night. But if a consumer wants the lights on,
  they send a premium SMS message and get the
  lights on for 15 minutes, which costs 50 cents
• The town of Lemgo is saving 50,000 Euro
  per year in not unnecessarily spending
  electricity to keep lights on at night
