A Brief Overview
2. A new national training framework, commissioned by
Health Education England has drawn together the key
knowledge and competences required by staff, who
provide end of life care.
This document is called the End of Life Core Skills
Education and Training Framework.
3. What Does the Framework Outline?
In brief:
Outlines the various levels of training required by staff,
according to the level of contact they have with individuals
requiring ‘palliative care’.
Includes ‘14 areas’, on how to communicate with families,
manage difficult conversations, and so on.
Provides information about accessing practical and emotional
support, for people nearing the end of life- and for their
families.
4. The framework has been produced in collaboration with
Skills for Health, and Skills for Care and is based on the
principles of ‘person-centred care’.
Person-Centred Care: Every person’s needs, should be
taken into consideration. And wherever possible, their
families should be involved in making decisions about
their care.
5. The Importance of the Framework
The End of Life Core Skills Education and Training Framework will
be regarded as a key indicator of ‘good practice’ by
commissioners, contract monitoring teams, and the CQC.
It should be an essential tool in planning your approach to end of
life care.
