2. INTRODUCTION
For more than two decades, Dr. Sally A. Booth has owned and
operated the Booth Dermatology Group and Cosmetic Care
Center of Indianapolis. Dr. Sally Booth offers a variety of facial
and skin treatment procedures, including chemical peels.
As its name indicates, the chemical peel allows a dermatologist to
strip away layers of damaged skin to reveal a fresher surface.
The procedure is available at one of three levels of intensity, the
most thorough being the deep peel. This procedure uses either
phenol or trichloracetic acid, which soaks through the top layer of
skin and into the middle layer. There, the acidic compound strips
away lines, age spots, and shallower scars as well as freckles.
Because the procedure is so intensive, each patient may only
receive it once.
3. CHEMICAL PEEL
The medium peel has a slightly less dramatic effect on
the skin, though it also penetrates into the middle layer of
skin. Using either trichloracetic or gycolic acid, it removes
finer lines and age spots as well as moderate
discolorations.
Individuals who prefer a milder treatment as compared to
deep or medium peels may opt for the superficial or
“lunchtime” peel, which affects only the outer layer of skin.
It strips away dead cells and reduces the appearance of
discoloration, which in turn leads to a refreshed
appearance. Like those who undergo other types of peel,
clients often report a more even and brighter complexion
and a smoother skin texture after the procedure.
