Impact of ICT Resources
            2012-2013
If you don’t know where
you’re going….

You’ll probably end up
somewhere else.

---Yogi Berra
Current scenario
Some of our teachers are still on Entrance Stage
 Teacher’s focus is still on what she/he knows
  – text-based tools like blackboards, textbooks, workbooks,
   task sheets, and overhead/multi-media projectors.
 These tools are used in combination to support teaching.
Problems Teacher face During

 These teachers have started using new
technology and it is broadly being
  integrated into traditional classroom.

 Technology has become an efficiency
 device – “additional, enhanced, faster.”
Comparison of Implementation
and Adaptation
ICT Apprehension
 ICT in education has its own anxiety because of the following different aspects:
Current scenario (cont.)
Some Teachers are in creation stage.
 This stage is evidenced less by change in classroom practice
and more by a change of personal attitude toward technology.
 Confident, effortless computing
 Faculty replace old ways with new ways of teaching
 They create new goals and pedagogical understandings.
 Teachers experiment with new instructional patterns and new
ways of communicating with students and peers.
Comparison between adaption and creation
stage
Action Research
 To follow up with the new educational technology,

teachers need to spend time, work hard and keep this
up and running all their life.
 Teachers must search on finding ways of providing

guided search to avoid distraction from lesson objective.
Potentials of an Effective ICT Lesson
 Motivate and engage learners
 Bring life to concepts and processes
 Foster inquiry
 Provide flexibility
 Allow application of information
 Provide access to world of information
 Bring the world into the classroom
 Offer collaborative opportunities and communication
 Offer tutored and individualized learning
when to plan?
 Planning of ICT lesson must be done almost 15 days before the conduction of lesson.

 Projects must be planned term-wise

 Before the start of term planning of projects must be completed to utilize the free time.

 All teachers could participate and discuss to find the best strategy in the presence of ICT
teacher, ETAC Ambassador and Admin person.

 Peer observation of ICT lesson and its evaluation must be done in the presence of school
Head where future action should be planned.

 Regular discussions and workshops on team work and awareness about new teaching
technologies must be done to motivate all teachers.
Appropriate Method
Teacher must:
• Identify the cognitive process she want to engage in
students. (i.e., recalling and implementing previous
   knowledge)
• Choose the instructional methods that best support
those. (searching some quiz using web 2.0 technology)
• Choose the technology that best supports those
   instructional methods.
• Design the lesson.
Change in the Role of Teacher
 Teaching is not anymore a monotonic job, where teachers keep on teaching
the same stuff over and over again.

 ICT has entirely changed the role and the job of teachers. Teachers are not
anymore the source of information, they are becoming more as facilitators,
  or “scaffolding” teachers.

 With this mandatory change, teachers definitely need serious help.
Change Elements
How to motivate teachers?
• Providing good resources and support inside the school will
facilitate the use of ICT and enhance teacher motivation.

•Teachers motivation is based on the freedom.

•Teacher must be given a chance to test new ICT tools and ways of
teachings.

•Supportive and collaborative relationship among teachers.

•Money rewards in the ICT use may enhance their motivation.
How to motivate teachers?(cont.)
 Teachers must go through APPM (Academic Practices Procedures manual) and
  implement it.

 Discussions and workshops should be arranged.

 Adherence of code of conduct related to inter-personal and intrapersonal
  skills.

 Regularity of conduction of co-ordination meeting in the presence of ICT
  teacher and Administration.

 Workshops on enhancing social skills and team work
How to motivate teachers? (cont.)
 Co-planning of ICT lesson

 Support observations of ICT lessons.

 Student feed-back for evaluation of ICT lesson.

 Use of school social network for discussions and sharing of resources.

 Involvement of Parents
Technical Support:
Ample technical support has been provided by the system.
Setting up new/Replacement equipment
  Hardware Software
 Multimedia projector for middle  Genuine windows
    school.  Math typing software
 LED TV 52” for resource room.  Global warming loop game
   3 to 4 digital Cameras  Quiz-tree.com
 Data loggers for science  Urduca.com (Urdu font installer)
 Scanner and printer for staff  Magnilink (a video magnifier)
    room.  Photostory3.0
                                       Cacoo for mapping
Location and Availability of Resources
 Our school has two spacious labs equipped with all
  resources needed.
 Resource room is still lacking resources.
 Availability of multi-media projector for middle school as
it is basic necessity of ICT lesson.
 Provision of Internet in teachers copy checking area.
Acknowledgements needed

Administration need to acknowledge the following points
 the big load added to teachers’ job,

 how much complicated and demanding their job became,
Considerations:
 Administration need to satisfy teachers’ basic needs in their teaching
environment to participate in implementing the ICT strategy in school.

 Provide support and up-to-date resources.

 Give rewards and appreciation for special ICT use. Workshops of how
to effectively integrate ICT in teaching and learning is the real target.

 The training sessions should take into considerations the basic needs
and wants of teachers as training has great influence on the
acceptance and the later use of technology
Considerations: (cont.)
 To motivate teachers to use ICT effectively in Education, effective continuous
  professional development is needed.

 Encourage teachers to keep on having action research studies to explore ICT
  new implementations and success.

 Finally, a continuous needs assessment should be conducted to keep on
  fulfilling basic needs of teachers.
The End

          Thank you.
Feedback by Administration on Different
Areas Discussed in this Presentation
 these problems can be overcome by appropriate planning and discussion with ETAC ambassadors and IT
    teacher. [slide 4]
 during last year i have observed teachers using various web links as resource for conducting lessons. internet
provides them with good pedagogical resources i.e, lesson plans, worksheets, audio- video presentations etc.
    [slide 5]
 Although control and discipline is more a part of a basic teaching strategy than of ICT lessons. Still
arrangement and monitoring in the computer lab needs extra vigilance. Regular practice of ICT integrated
lessons can overcome this problem. [Slide 6]

 teachers must take it as a challenge. its the need of time. it can not be done overnight or at once. regular
practice and continuous effort can bring a good change. [Slide 12]
 changes in curriculum are recommended. so that teachers do not face any problems and do not distract
themselves. ETAC Ambassadors should go for co teaching to benefit other teachers with their relevant
    experiences.
 ICT is synonymous with using the computer and the internet - this also needs to change and is reflective of the
limited understanding of everyone involved. [Slide 15]
 They should be becoming facilitators but this, considering the current scenario, is quite some way off. [Slide
    16]
 They should be becoming facilitators but this, considering the current scenario, is quite some way off.
Feedback by Administration on different
areas discussed in this presentation(cont)
 Teachers need to be given the flexibility to experiment, maybe fail, and try again, and yet again.
 There is an absence of pre-service training so the school, specially Heads need to be involved. [Slide 18]
 Resources are mostly out of date - the upkeep and refurbishing of these labs is of the utmost importance.
    [slide 13]
 incentives, specially monetary need to be given.
 and purposefully [slide 25]
 for sharing their concerns and analysis teachers must be encouraged to join e-forums. or social network like
grouply can be used for teachers collaboration.
 The suggestions given are apt and focused. I have evaluated that teachers need training for IT before
implementation. But training has to be systematic and gradual so that teachers can get time to implement it in
their classroom. I will definitely share it with Principal for follow up.
 I think that administration, curriculum designers, and IT team should team up for assessing present
pedagogical and technical requirements. Also parents or stake holders must share their visions and concerns
with institutions more explicitly during workshops. Open-day for parents must be arranged to give them
    awareness of ICT. [Slide 26]

  • 9. ICT Apprehension  ICT in education has its own anxiety because of the following different aspects:
  • 10. Current scenario (cont.) Some Teachers are in creation stage.  This stage is evidenced less by change in classroom practice and more by a change of personal attitude toward technology.  Confident, effortless computing  Faculty replace old ways with new ways of teaching  They create new goals and pedagogical understandings.  Teachers experiment with new instructional patterns and new ways of communicating with students and peers.
  • 11. Comparison between adaption and creation stage
  • 12. Action Research  To follow up with the new educational technology, teachers need to spend time, work hard and keep this up and running all their life.  Teachers must search on finding ways of providing guided search to avoid distraction from lesson objective.
  • 13. Potentials of an Effective ICT Lesson  Motivate and engage learners  Bring life to concepts and processes  Foster inquiry  Provide flexibility  Allow application of information  Provide access to world of information  Bring the world into the classroom  Offer collaborative opportunities and communication  Offer tutored and individualized learning
  • 14. when to plan?  Planning of ICT lesson must be done almost 15 days before the conduction of lesson.  Projects must be planned term-wise  Before the start of term planning of projects must be completed to utilize the free time.  All teachers could participate and discuss to find the best strategy in the presence of ICT teacher, ETAC Ambassador and Admin person.  Peer observation of ICT lesson and its evaluation must be done in the presence of school Head where future action should be planned.  Regular discussions and workshops on team work and awareness about new teaching technologies must be done to motivate all teachers.
  • 15. Appropriate Method Teacher must: • Identify the cognitive process she want to engage in students. (i.e., recalling and implementing previous knowledge) • Choose the instructional methods that best support those. (searching some quiz using web 2.0 technology) • Choose the technology that best supports those instructional methods. • Design the lesson.
  • 16. Change in the Role of Teacher  Teaching is not anymore a monotonic job, where teachers keep on teaching the same stuff over and over again.  ICT has entirely changed the role and the job of teachers. Teachers are not anymore the source of information, they are becoming more as facilitators, or “scaffolding” teachers.  With this mandatory change, teachers definitely need serious help.
  • 18. How to motivate teachers? • Providing good resources and support inside the school will facilitate the use of ICT and enhance teacher motivation. •Teachers motivation is based on the freedom. •Teacher must be given a chance to test new ICT tools and ways of teachings. •Supportive and collaborative relationship among teachers. •Money rewards in the ICT use may enhance their motivation.
  • 19. How to motivate teachers?(cont.)  Teachers must go through APPM (Academic Practices Procedures manual) and implement it.  Discussions and workshops should be arranged.  Adherence of code of conduct related to inter-personal and intrapersonal skills.  Regularity of conduction of co-ordination meeting in the presence of ICT teacher and Administration.  Workshops on enhancing social skills and team work
  • 20. How to motivate teachers? (cont.)  Co-planning of ICT lesson  Support observations of ICT lessons.  Student feed-back for evaluation of ICT lesson.  Use of school social network for discussions and sharing of resources.  Involvement of Parents
  • 21. Technical Support: Ample technical support has been provided by the system.
  • 22. Setting up new/Replacement equipment Hardware Software  Multimedia projector for middle  Genuine windows school.  Math typing software  LED TV 52” for resource room.  Global warming loop game  3 to 4 digital Cameras  Quiz-tree.com  Data loggers for science  Urduca.com (Urdu font installer)  Scanner and printer for staff  Magnilink (a video magnifier) room.  Photostory3.0  Cacoo for mapping
  • 23. Location and Availability of Resources  Our school has two spacious labs equipped with all resources needed.  Resource room is still lacking resources.  Availability of multi-media projector for middle school as it is basic necessity of ICT lesson.  Provision of Internet in teachers copy checking area.
  • 24. Acknowledgements needed Administration need to acknowledge the following points  the big load added to teachers’ job,  how much complicated and demanding their job became,
  • 25. Considerations:  Administration need to satisfy teachers’ basic needs in their teaching environment to participate in implementing the ICT strategy in school.  Provide support and up-to-date resources.  Give rewards and appreciation for special ICT use. Workshops of how to effectively integrate ICT in teaching and learning is the real target.  The training sessions should take into considerations the basic needs and wants of teachers as training has great influence on the acceptance and the later use of technology
  • 26. Considerations: (cont.)  To motivate teachers to use ICT effectively in Education, effective continuous professional development is needed.  Encourage teachers to keep on having action research studies to explore ICT new implementations and success.  Finally, a continuous needs assessment should be conducted to keep on fulfilling basic needs of teachers.
  • 27. The End Thank you.
  • 28. Feedback by Administration on Different Areas Discussed in this Presentation  these problems can be overcome by appropriate planning and discussion with ETAC ambassadors and IT teacher. [slide 4]  during last year i have observed teachers using various web links as resource for conducting lessons. internet provides them with good pedagogical resources i.e, lesson plans, worksheets, audio- video presentations etc. [slide 5]  Although control and discipline is more a part of a basic teaching strategy than of ICT lessons. Still arrangement and monitoring in the computer lab needs extra vigilance. Regular practice of ICT integrated lessons can overcome this problem. [Slide 6]     teachers must take it as a challenge. its the need of time. it can not be done overnight or at once. regular practice and continuous effort can bring a good change. [Slide 12]  changes in curriculum are recommended. so that teachers do not face any problems and do not distract themselves. ETAC Ambassadors should go for co teaching to benefit other teachers with their relevant experiences.  ICT is synonymous with using the computer and the internet - this also needs to change and is reflective of the limited understanding of everyone involved. [Slide 15]  They should be becoming facilitators but this, considering the current scenario, is quite some way off. [Slide 16]  They should be becoming facilitators but this, considering the current scenario, is quite some way off.
  • 29. Feedback by Administration on different areas discussed in this presentation(cont)  Teachers need to be given the flexibility to experiment, maybe fail, and try again, and yet again.  There is an absence of pre-service training so the school, specially Heads need to be involved. [Slide 18]  Resources are mostly out of date - the upkeep and refurbishing of these labs is of the utmost importance. [slide 13]  incentives, specially monetary need to be given.  and purposefully [slide 25]  for sharing their concerns and analysis teachers must be encouraged to join e-forums. or social network like grouply can be used for teachers collaboration.  The suggestions given are apt and focused. I have evaluated that teachers need training for IT before implementation. But training has to be systematic and gradual so that teachers can get time to implement it in their classroom. I will definitely share it with Principal for follow up.  I think that administration, curriculum designers, and IT team should team up for assessing present pedagogical and technical requirements. Also parents or stake holders must share their visions and concerns with institutions more explicitly during workshops. Open-day for parents must be arranged to give them awareness of ICT. [Slide 26]
