This document discusses the biblical process for correcting believers who have wandered from the truth or committed offenses. It notes that believers should pray for wisdom and present truth in love when turning someone back. If the error involves doctrine, heresy, or repeated personal offenses, then church discipline including admonition and potential rejection may be necessary. The document emphasizes that saving a soul from death through correction covers a multitude of sins.
3. 19 Brethren, if anyone among you
wanders from the truth, and
someone turns him back, 20 let
him know that he who turns a
sinner from the error of his way
will save a soul from death and
cover a multitude of sins.
4. 1 Corinthians 11:28–32 But let a man examine
himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink
of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks in an
unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to
himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. 30 For this
reason many are weak and sick among you, and
many sleep. 31 For if we would judge ourselves,
we would not be judged. 32 But when we are
judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we
may not be condemned with the world.

5. A. SELF-JUDGMENT (I Cor 9:24-27)
1 Corinthians 9:24–27 Do you not know that those
who run in a race all run, but one receives the
prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. 25
And everyone who competes for the prize is
temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a
perishable crown, but we for an imperishable
crown. 26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty.
Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 27 But I
discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest,
when I have preached to others, I myself should
become disqualified.
6. B. CHASTISEMENT
1. From the LORD
2. From an Authority within THE HOME
3. From an Authority within THE GOVERNMENT
4. From an Authority within THE CHURCH
C. CONDEMNATION
Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no
condemnation
to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk
according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
(literally, judgment + punishment)
7. John Calvin
“. . . if no society, indeed no house
which has even a small family
cannot be kept in proper condition
without discipline, it is much
more necessary in the church,
where conditions should be as
ordered or possible.”
8. “If we stress the love of God
without the holiness of God it
turns out only to be compromise.
But, if we stress the holiness of
God without the love of God, we
practice something that is hard
and lacks beauty.”
Francis Schaeffer
“Biblical orthodoxy without compassion is surely
the ugliest thing in the world.”
9. No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus and all in Him, is mine!
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold, I approach the eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
Charles Wesley
