SEO stands for Search engine
optimization is the practice of
increasing the visibility of your website
or webpage or blogs through organic
search engine results.
8. Types of SEO activities -
There are majorly two types of SEO
activities, one is On-Page SEO or On-
Site SEO and another one is Off Page
SEO or Off-Site SEO
9. 1 On Page SEO –
On-Page SEO or On-Site SEO refers to all the
activities that you can do on your website or
webpage to help your site/page rank on
higher position, such as meta title, meta
description, internal linking, image
optimization, mobile friendliness, keyword
editing etc.
10. Various elements of On-page SEO are mentioned below -
Meta Title –
Meta title or title tags are used to tell search engines and
visitors what any given page on your site is about in the
most concise and accurate way possible.
This title appears on search engine as well as the tab in
your web browser:
11. How to write a great title tag ?
From an SEO point of view, the title tag should
contain all the keywords you wish to rank for. The
most important keyword should be at the beginning,
followed by second most important, then finally your
brand name.
Primary Keyword – Secondary Keyword | Brand
Name
12. Title tag checklist -
Length: Title tags should be 50-60 characters long,
including spaces.
Keyword placement: Your most important keywords
need to be first in your title tag, with your least
important words coming last.
Brand name: If your company name is not part of the
important keyword phrases, put it at the end of the
title tag.
Do not duplicate title tags: They must be written
differently for every page. Don’t mass replicate your
title tags it will negatively affect your search visibility.
Make it relevant: Title tags must accurately describe
the content on the page.
13. Some time Google can modify and show title tag by its own based on
content/brand
Or user behavior.
Meta Description –
A meta description is a summary of up to 320 characters in length that
describes the content of a web page. Search engines show it in search
results when the meta description also includes the keywords being
searched. Meta descriptions entice users to click through to a page and are
part of effective SEO.
14. Where do I add the meta description and how to write it?
You can add a meta description in the <head> section of your site’s HTML. It should
look something like this:
<head>
<meta name=”description” content=”Here is a precise description of my awesome
webpage.”>
</head>
Earlier meta description length was not more than 160 characters but now its limit
has been increased till 320 characters.
In order to write best meta description we include important keyword, readable
content that must match the content on the page, length criteria.
Also, we need to ensure that meta description is not copied or duplicate from any
other page of the site.
15. Meta keywords –
Meta keywords are not relevant today as they were used to be earlier.
The reason behind this is that Google doesn’t pay any attention to that field. Earlier it was a
ranking factor but not today.
URL Structure –
16. Google is good at crawling all types of URL structures, even if they're quite complex, but
spending the time to make your URLs as simple as possible is a good practice.
17. Provide one version of a URL to reach a document
If same page is accessible by 2 or multiple Urls then we need to
set up 301 redirection on non preferred URL towards prefered
urls.
If it is not possible to redirect then you need to use canonical tag
i.e. - rel=“canonical”
Relevant Categorization of the page –
It is essential to map products page under relevant category. For
example if page is of T-Shirt then we need to make sure this page
is added in relevant category (Apparel) rather than “Electronics”
Use keywords in URL –
Keywords in url help improve the ranking and hence visibility on
the search engine. So, we should try to use keywords In URL
section.
18. Breadcrumbs –
Breadcrumbs are an important part of almost any good website. These little
navigational structure don’t just help people visualize where they are on your site,
but also help Google determine how your site is structured.

19. Benefits of Breadcrumb –
1) Bounce Rate Reduction -
A common situation is when a user arrives on a page, sees breadcrumbs,
and clicks on a higher-level link in order to view all related items or
topics. In this instance, the breadcrumb trail reduces the bounce rate.
2.) Enhancing User Experience –
Breadcrumbs offer users a way to navigate to higher-level pages with one
click, much easier than clicking the browser’s “Back” button a dozen
times to reach the original page.
3.) Small Size & Functionality –
Breadcrumbs are horizontally oriented, short, and typed in plain font.
Therefore, they do not take up much space, which is especially vital for a
site’s mobile version
20. Heading Tag optimization
Heading tags are part of the HTML coding for a Web page. Headings are
defined with H1 to H6 tags. The H1 tag defines the most
important heading on the page (usually the largest or boldest, too),
whereas H6 indicates the lowest-level heading
The h1 tag should contain your targeted keywords, ones that closely
relate to the page title and are relevant to your content. The h2 tag is a
subheading and should contain similar keywords to your h1 tag. Your h3
is then a subheading for your h2and so on.
21. Image optimization –
Image Optimization is one of the most important factor in
SEO. How do we optimize images are mentioned below –
1. Use a relevant image that matches your text.
2. Pick a good file name for your image.
3. Reduce file size for faster loading.
4. Add a caption, if appropriate, for easier scanning of the
page.
5. Use image alt text.
22. Content Optimization –
Content optimization is the process of making sure content is
written in a way that it can reach the largest possible target
audience. The process of optimizing content should include
making sure associated keywords are present in the content
part as well and relevant links. Key points are -
1. Use high quality content and add keyword in first para
2. The content should be unique, fresh & relevant
3. Google knows the source of original content so it should not
be copied from anywhere else
4. Keyword should be added with appropriate keyword
density and avoid keyword stuffing
5. Internal linking should be placed on keywords
23. Page Speed –
It means which web pages are downloaded and displayed on the
user's web browser clearly, easily and quickly. Some aspects which can
affect the speed of page load include browser/server cache,
image optimization, and encryption (for example SSL), which can
affect the time it takes for pages to render.
How to optimize page speed -
1. Avoid landing page redirects
2. Enable compression
3. Improve server response time
4. Leverage browser caching
5. Minify resources
6. Optimize images
7. Optimize CSS Delivery
8. Prioritize visible content
9. Remove render-blocking JavaScript
24. Also, Google Page Speed Tool provides the area of improvement –
For Ex –
25. Mobile Friendliness –
A mobile-friendly website is one that displays correctly on
hand-held devices such as smart phones, iPhones, iPads, and
tablets.
Mobile friendly sites loads fast, easy to read on mobile
devices, easy to navigate, minimal scrolling and don’t use flash
(because Apple products don’t use flash)
26. Mobile Friendly Test By Google –
With the help of Mobile-Friendly Test tool provided by Google,
we can check if site or web page is mobile friendly or not.
27. Page Indexing/submission in Search engine –
We should know if our pages are indexed in
Google or not by using site: operator.
If pages are not indexed in Google then we need
to ensure those pages are crawl able and not
blocked through robots.txt.
Also, are they added in sitemap xml if they are
not then we should add them in the sitemap xml
file.
28. Crawl ability of the page (Robots.txt)
Websites should have a robots.txt file and
unwanted items should be blocked through the
robots.txt so that Search Engine can not find
that page and hence will not index.
But, it is crucial to keep necessary files
unblocked from there otherwise those pages
will not get indexed in Google
We block files through robots.txt which we
don’t want to show users as well as search
engine.
29. Internal Linking –
An internal link is a type of hyperlink on a webpage to
another page or resource, such as an image or document,
on the same website or domain. Hyperlinks are considered
either "external" or "internal" depending on their target or
destination.
Google uses links to find out what content on your site is
related and the value of that content.
From user’s point of view, internal linking helps to navigate
the page easily which is linked on the current page.
Also helpful to down bounce rate of that particular page
where internal linking is implemented.
30. Do Follow/No Follow Attributes on links –
A no-follow backlink is basically a link that does not pass on
the SEO benefits of the source site to the blog where the link
points to. In short, no-follow links do not have any SEO value,
and they will not add up to the link profile that search
engines use to evaluate when ranking websites.
But if any visitor come via this link then referral traffic is
counted. Also, no of back links are counted and can be
checked in Google Webmasters
Follow backlink is a link that pass on SEO benefits of the
source site to the blog/website where the link points to
Note:- We should add no-follow attribute for External links
only.
31. 2 - Off Page SEO –
“Off-Page SEO” refers to all of the activities that we perform away
from our website in order to improve the ranking of a page with
search engines.
Making it more clear –
On-page search engine optimization happens within the site, while
off-page SEO happens outside the site. If you write a guest post for
another blog or leave a comment, it means you’re doing off-page
site promotion.
32. Types of Off Page SEO Activities –
There are various Off page SEO Activities performed in order to
create backlinks.
The aim should be to create qualitative backlinks instead of
quantitative backlinks.
33. Few link building activities are mentioned below –

38. Similarly, there are other Off page activities like blog posting on blogger.com,
tumbler.com etc.
Document sharing on slide share, issue etc.
Other off page SEO activities are – Forum Submission, Directory Submission, Info
graphic Submission Etc.
How do we perform Off page SEO activities –
On all these sites, firstly, we need to register and then upload the content,
image. Infographics, PPT/PDF etc according to nature of that site.
For Example if we are performing document sharing activity on slideshare then
we can create and share PPT there.
39. Backlink Analysis –
After creating backlinks we should analyze the quality of out backlinks with the
help of Google webmasters as well as other tools.
If there are any spammy links found then we need to disavow them
Also, when we choose sites for backlink creation activity then we need to check
its DA/PA from Moz Explorer.
If DA/PA is good and site is not spammy then only we should continue.
40. 3 - Sitemap xml -
The Sitemaps protocol allows a webmaster to inform search
engines about URLs on a website that are available for
crawling. A Sitemap is an XML file that lists the URLs for a site.
For Ex - https://www.google.com/sitemap.xml
4 - Sitemap html –
An HTML sitemap allows site visitors to easily navigate a
website. It is a bulleted outline text version of the site
navigation. The anchor text displayed in the outline is linked to
the page it references. Site visitors can go to the Sitemap to
