APA Style for Electronic Sources
   (American Psychological
           Association)
• Provides basic guidelines and
  examples for citing using
  electronic/online sources.
• APA style requires that sources
receive attribution in the text by
  the use of parenthetical in-text
  references.
Terminologies
• DOI- Digital Object Identifier
Example: http://dx.doi
  .org/10.1000/182.
• used to uniquely identify an
  object such as an electronic
  document.
• URL – Uniform Resource
  Locator
Example: http://dx.doi.org/
• is a specific character string that
  constitutes a reference to an
  Internet resource.
• Character String - a string is
  traditionally a sequence
of characters, either as a literal
constant or as some kind of
variable. It denotes as a data
  type or a source code.
General Rules of APA
Citation Format
• ORDER- names and titles
• Authors – Last Name, Initial.
  Use ampersand (&) instead of
  using word “and”
• Titles – capitalize first word of
  title and subtitle
• Pagination- abbreviate the word
  page/s to p. or pp.
• Indention- the first line of the entry
must be flush to the left side (flush
  left), all subsequent lines are
indented to (5-7 spaces) forming a
  hanging indent.
• Underlining vs. Italics – it is
appropriate to use italics instead of
  underlining titles of books and
  journals.
• Internet Address – Use DOI if
  possible/URL.
• Date:
Finalized Version –date within
the main body of citation is
 enough
Work not dated- include date
 when you retrieved
 information.
General Rule:
• The doi (digital object
  identifier) number should be
  used to provide access
  information for electronic
  materials. URLs may be
  included for resources that
do not have a doi number.
