AS Schedule Film Title Opening Sequence soundtrack
Week 13th Dec Evaluations AS has seven evaluation questions These questions demonstrate your understanding to the examiner 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? (i.e. of real film openings) 2. How does your product represent particular social groups? 3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? 4. Who would be the audience for your media product? 5. How did you attract/address your audience? 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? 7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product? +Audience Feedback
Q 1 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products ? What are the conventions of your Genre? What are the conventions of a Film Opening? ,[object Object]
How did you use them? – camera, mise en scene, lighting, editing, sound What existing media products did you base your products around /on? ,[object Object],The title of the filmSetting/locationCostumes and propsCamerawork and editingTitle font and styleStory and how the opening sets it upGenre and how the opening suggests itHow characters are introducedSpecial effects
Q 1 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products ? Here is an example of the kind of comments you could make about your shots to answer this question: "This is our contact sheet for our opening sequence. The first frame is of our main title. We decided to have the main title at this point as it enters dramatically. This is because the music changes and gets louder, also the picture changes from black to the panning shot. We chose the title ‘Retribution’ meaning “punishment that is considered to be morally right and fully deserved”. This title would be typical of an action thriller. The second frame we chose is of the setting. It is a fade between the building and the skyline panning shot. It has an urban feel and suggest industrial trading. The purpose of the the purpose of the building is to show that the opening is set in a run down, secluded area. These types of shots are typical of openings as they put the audience in the right frame of mind for the film.Etc…
Q 2 2. How does your product represent particular social groups? Pick a key character from your opening. Take a screen grab of a reasonable sized image of them. Think of one or more characters from other films with some similarity to them (but maybe some differences too), find an image on the web of that/those characters and grab it as well. for example, if you have a lonely teen character look for other lonely teens from existing films to compare them with Example commentary "The postures of both men are similar in the sense that they’ve both got their hands in their pockets. They also share similar facial expressions – both serious and staring straight at the camera, although Andrew’s eyes are hidden by his aviator sunglasses. In addition to this, both men are wearing similar costumes – jeans and a t-shirt layered with a shirt on top. As well as this, the background setting is very similar – both pictures were taken outside on a field with trees in the distance. However, the lighting used in the photos is different with one displaying a much brighter blue sky and the other a more overcast grey outlook. Also, they have different hairstyles – Andrew’s is longer, darker and covering his face more, whereas the man from Rinoa has shorter, lighter gelled up hair. Overall I think that these elements of the photos represent a normal young social group and that my magazine reflects this throughout – the people featured in my magazine are quite normal looking – there’s nothing extreme or obscure about their appearances”
Q 3 3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? For this question, you are going to do a five slide illustrated PowerPoint explaining some of the key features of your institutional decisions. You will then need to embed the PowerPoint on your blog. What does a production company do? ,[object Object],/ created –why? What does a distributor do? ,[object Object],(Think about the sort product you have produced, and the type of films this company have released before – are they likely to be interested in your film?) Explain why How might your film have been funded? http://www.filmeducation.org/shifty/marketing.html Research how British film ‘Shifty’ was chosen by Metrodome
Q 4 4. Who would be the audience for your media product? You should have a drawing or photo of your target audience member and an explanation of what kinds of taste they might have- where they would shop, what music they would listen to, what their favourite TV programme would be, etc.post it on the blog and write a few notes on why they would watch your film "This is Shanelle Goodwin. She is 15 years and 7 months old, and lives in the suburbs of Leeds. she dresses fairly straight forwardly - just jeans and a top. She enjoys sleepovers with her friends, and shopping at the weekends with her pocket money. She shops in places like H&M and River Island, Jane Norman, New Look, and Topshop. She enjoys films like Mean Girls, Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging, House Bunny, St Trinians, Sex and the City, Mamma Mia, she enjoys watching them at the cinema and also buying them later on DVD and watching them with her friends, and jelly and icecream. They would watch Hollyoaks, Friends, Scrubs, Family Guy, X Factor, America's Next Top Model, One Tree Hill. The main channels would be Channel 4; E4; Living Tv; ITV; BBC Three; Comedy Central. The music this girl would listen to would be anything in the charts, varying from pop, hip-hop. r 'n' b, indie music - not really a 'rock' or 'classical' or 'dub-step'. Listens to Kiss FM and Radio 1 for the 'chart hits'. I think our film would appeal to this girl as she is a stereotypical girly girl who enjoys typical girly things, therefore, if this film was shown at her local cinema, this may appeal to her, as it's similar to other films she likes”
Q 5 5. How did you attract/address your audience? For this question you will use YOU TUBE's annotation tools to add NOTES, SPEECHBUBBLES, and LINKS to your video. These annotations will highlight the ways in which your Film Opening links to other similar films in order to attract the particular Audience you have previously identified Your annotations will refer to genre conventions, use of music, similarities with other movies and what you have identified as the Unique Selling Point of your imaginary film. Click here to watch an example which uses tagging: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXaigJSM7Oc&feature=player_embedded
Q 6 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? Drop the image onto your blog and annotate it, adding all the programs and other technology you have used as screen grabs and what you learnt about it/from using it. Your written text need only be minimal. You could include reference to all the online and computer programmes and internet resources you have used such as YouTube, Mahara, Final Cut Express, Photoshop, Soundtrack, Live Type
Q 7 Main Task Basic Prelim Task 7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product? Using comparative screen grabs from both the preliminary and the main product, show how your technical and creative skills have developed over the course.   Concentrate on editing and camerawork. Grab some frames from both tasks and put them on the blog and show what you know about shot types, edit terms and techniques.Make sure you mention the 180 degree rule, match on action and shot/reverse shot
