2. Here is an analogue clock The big hour hand shows the minutes Each of these little sections is one minute There are 60 minutes in one hour! The section between each of the numbers is 5 minutes- practise counting around the clock.

3. What about the little hand? The little hand measures the hour and uses the numbers on the clock face- it moves VERY slowly!! It takes a whole hour to move between the two numbers

4. How to tell the time… We use the information from both the big and little hands! When the big hand is on the zero it means it is the start of the hour The little hand has reached the 8 so we are in the eighth hour! What is the time here?

5. Other names… We sometimes call this quarter past because the big hand has gone a quarter of the way round (15 minutes)

6. What about this clock? We call this half past because the big hand has gone half way round (30 minutes) and the little hand is gone halfway between the two hours.

7. What about this clock? We call this quarter to because the big hand only has a quarter turn left (15 minutes) until it gets to the next hour So this would be quarter to 12, because there is a quarter turn before 12 o’ clock

9. 7:05 five past 7

10. 7:10 ten past 7

11. 7:15 fifteen past 7

12. 7:20 twenty past 7

13. 7:25 twenty-five past 7

14. 7:30 (thirty past 7) half past 7

15. 7:35 thirty-five past 7 twenty-five to 8

16. 7:40 forty past 7 twenty to 8

17. 7:45 forty-five past 7 quarter to 8 (fifteen to 8)

18. 7:50 fifty past 7 ten to 8

19. 7:55 fifty-five past 7 five to 8

20. 8:00 8 o’clock
