6. LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE
USING YOUR WORLD MAP . . .
A ship is sinking at 15° N 30° W. In which ocean is it located? What is the nearest land?
Which would you be more likely to find at 10°N 170°E, a tropical island or an iceberg? Where
is this?
If you visit a friend at 70°N 90°E, will you need swimmers or a warm jacket? Where would you
be?
If you found yourself at 20°N 10°E, would you be more likely to be building a sandcastle or an
igloo? Which country would you be in?
If you were a nature photographer at 20°S 45°E, would you be more likely to be photographing
lemurs or kangaroos? Where would you be?
If you were travelling in the area around 20°S 60°W, would you be better off on a horse or in a
boat? Where are you?

9. YOUR ROAD TRIP
Now you need to find the coordinates for all five road trip
destinations
Use these to mark them carefully on your new map with
lines of latitude and longitude
Draw in your route again
Finally, calculate the distance between your destinations (as
the crow flies) using their coordinates - you need to work out
how to do this
