a collaborative, intraprofessional dental event where high risk groups are invited to receive free
advice and dental care based on their individual needs
As many barriers as possible are eliminated to increase utilization
Try to encourage prevention and commitment to oral health

language, culture, education

4. Timelines
2010: Invited to participate with the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region and Dental Health Educators to
provide oral hygiene education to members of the Regina Food Bank
2011: SIAST Dental Program asked to be the lead on the oral health care for the event
2012: Funding made available to support DH services at SIAST Dental Clinic and first year of Dental Day
2013-2015: Dental Day grew each year in volunteers, patients seen and treatment completed
2016: Introduction of Dental Hygiene Day

13. Dental Hygiene Program
Presently the Dental Hygiene Program is a 2 year course that runs from the end of August until the first
week of June
Length: 76 weeks:
Year 1 - 38 weeks; Year 2 - 38 weeks
September, 2017 will be the first intake for the 3 year Program
Year 1- Anatomy and Physiology, English (Literature, Critical Reading/Writing), Statistics, Psychology, Sociology,
Chemistry/Organic Chemistry,
Year 2 & 3- Dental Hygiene specific classes and more clinical experience
