The document summarizes research conducted by students on rubbish and recycling at Cranford school. It finds that some classrooms had no recycling bins and paper recycling was poor. Large amounts of rubbish like bottles and plastic wrappers were found on the field and concourse. Students propose adding more bins, reinforcing recycling ideas, and initiatives to reduce litter to make Cranford a cleaner learning environment.

2. Rubbish & Recycling at Cranford
• As part of a group project we where
asked to look at one environmental
issue in Cranford
• We chose the topics rubbish and
recycling
• Here is a short clip to show what we
found out!

6. • The two departments which recycles their
paper waste the most is the Art and the
Science department
• the total number of bottles found in the all
the classrooms we looked at was only 1!
• Departments with the least number of
paper on the floor – Drama, Music, RE and
PE
7. • There is way too many rubbish/bottles on
the ground in the fields
• Students should start using the rubbish
bins more often
• Only 2 bins out of 17 were full
• There is way too much paper/shredded
paper on the floor in the English, Art and
the Languages department
8. Look how close the
bins are to the eating
bench, but still no
one makes an effort
to take a few steps
to put the rubbish in
the bin
9. Recycling bins are used to recycle things, in this
picture the bin is used as a dump ( keyboards,
chocolate tins, wires etc)
10. The animals (horses and the birds) can choke
from the rubbish on the ground (plastic wrappers
etc) which can cause death, why kill innocent
living things with our laziness?
Also students
can trip over
bottles! One
of the
cranford
rights are “
the right to
be safe” if
there are
bottles & etc
lying around,
we are risking
the chances
of injuries
11. • We were surprised at how so many class
rooms have no recycling bins
• The recycling of paper is very poor in most
classrooms
• There are lots of rubbish on the field and
concourse ( especially – plastic wrappers,
bottles)
12. • We could have more bins around the field
• Reinforce the idea and the use of recycling bins ( introduce
reward system – eg: the tutor group with the most amount of
paper in the recycling bin gets dream points, etc)
• Avoid use of paper whenever possible ( use interactive white
boards more often etc)
• Asking students to not litter ( eg: can award dream points)
• Making the whole process of recycling and putting rubbish in
the bin as a motivating idea ( rewards, notifications,
competitions etc)
• Have more recycling bins in each classroom
• Next to the rubbish bins, have recycling bins to recycle
wrappers, plastic bottles etc to make sure we are recycling
as much as possible
