2. Hangar 1 Update
• Background
– Removal Action contract awarded 25 September 2009
– Covers removal of siding, demolition of interior buildings, and application of a
weather-resistant epoxy coating to structural steel frame
– Navy/NASA requested Office of Management and Budget arbitrate residing issue
• OMB Arbitration:
– Joint Navy/NASA/OMB meeting held with Congresswoman Eshoo on 3 March
2010
– Conveyed that process had concluded with following outcome:
• Navy responsible for environmental cleanup actions
• NASA responsible for Hangar 1 reuse and residing
– Navy and NASA work together to determine the most appropriate path forward
for coordinating the Navy's cleanup activities with NASA's reuse
• Removal Action:
– Various work plans in development
– Anticipate mobilization in early June
– Roof/siding removal scheduled to begin mid-December 2010
