2. I. Early Life David was born in Paris on August 30, 1748.
3. Early Life Jacques-Louis David’s father, Louis-Maurice died after a pistol duel when David was 10 year old.
4. Early Life David was educated at boarding school, where his two uncle’s took care of him financially until he chose a career.
5. Early Life David chose his career as an artist and quickly became a student of the famous artist Joseph-Marie Vien. Vien was a professor at the academy.
6. II. The French Revolution The Revolution brought numerous groups together in protest. David found friends in one of these groups who called themselves the Jacobins.
7. The French Revolution As part of the Jacobin’s, David voted for the beheading of King Louis XVI.
8. The French Revolution After a brief period spent in jail, David’s life was spared by Napoleon Bonaparte, the youngest general-turned-reigning-king.
9. The French Revolution Before dedicating himself almost entirely to paintings of the royal family, David painted The Death of Marat to iconize his good friend, journalist Jean Marat, in 1793.
