Assignment title Assignment 1 Elements, Mixtures and Compounds
The purpose of this assignment is to:
Enable you to identify different types of chemical substances from school, home and your surroundings:
elements and their symbols; compounds; mixtures
Scenario
You are the education officer for a large chemical company which has just opened, you have
been asked to prepare posters, explaining the difference between elements mixtures and
compounds for a ‘meet the neighbours’ open day display.
Task 1
Fill in the sheet, your assessor will give you, to identify which substances are elements, which are mixtures
and which are compounds.
This provides evidence for P1
Task 2
Prepare a poster using drawings to describe the differences between elements, mixtures and compounds.
This provides evidence for M1
Task 3
Add examples to your poster in order to explain the differences between elements, mixtures and
compounds. For example, How could you show whether air is a mixture or a compound, and how could you
show that iron sulphide is a compound and not just a mixture of iron and sulphur
This provides evidence for D1
