Overview
 Social media is the ravel of the moment and by all
indications so far, it would be so for a while.
 In these ‘new days’ of social networking, many find it
even more comfortable to connect on a social network
than in real life. Welcome to the ‘new world’ my friend!
 Social media is all about interaction among people and
it is not bond by geographical locations.
 Traditional methods of job searching are gradually
fading off with the emergence of ‘new methods’ – web
2.0, social media!
 Any job seeker that has a mind to win in the ‘talent war’
must take his/her job search seriously because job
searching is a job in itself!

Job Seekers Social Media Mistakes
 Social Media Sense of Entitlement: job
seekers feel because they are connected to
someone on social media, they are doing you a
favor. That is so wrong!
 Failure to know their social media audience:
every social networking channel has its unique
audience, an understanding of your audience is
very key to leveraging social media platforms.
 Ignoring Social networking etiquette: from
the way some job seekers interact on social
media, it is obvious that they don’t have a clue
that social networking is governed by etiquettes
similar to face-to-face social networking.

Another big mistake job seekers make is
having a less-than-professional online
presence. It is the way you look online that you
would be addressed
 Substituting Social networking with Face-
to-face networking: many job seekers forget
that social media is just a tool to ease social
networking and not completely erase it.

Personal Branding Using Social Media
 Getting a job in this social media era requires
online visibility and personal branding.
 Personal branding is one of the best ways to
advance in your job search, your job change and
your career.
 We live in a brand new world of perception!
 You decide what others and most especially
“what Google would say about you”.
 How you are perceived as an individual affects
your career as well as the type of job you get,
hence the need to take charge of your personal
brand, especially online.

job seekers to gain access to recruiters and hiring
managers alike.
 You should make a conscious effort to building a
