Energy consumption has a direct impact on environment. There is a direct correlation between growth, energy consumption and carbon emissions. The rise in earth’s temperature is a real threat to the polar zones and glaciers. Their melting is expected to create havoc with global climatic conditions and living environment. High income economies are the biggest emitters. Per capita carbon dioxide emissions being highest for the USA. 2005 emission estimates for China was 4.3 tons/capita and for India 1.3 tons/ capita. Per capita emissions in China are expected to increase rapidly due to increased manufacturing activity and exports from the country.
