Plaque thermography uses a catheter with a single thermistor to measure heat levels in arteries and identify areas of plaque buildup. The technique works best in vessels with stenoses over 50% and has limitations in large vessels where the thermistor can flutter or "flail". The catheter comes in sizes from 3 to 4.5 French.
