3. Indian Constitution
Indian Constitution is a set up of basic
written rules that is accepted by all
people.
It is the longest written constitution of any
sovereign country in the world.
It contains 444 articles in 24 parts, 12
schedules and 94 amendments for a total
of 117,369 words in English language
version.
4. How are the Constitution draw up and
Who designs them and in what way?
The Constituent Assembly had 299 members.
The Assembly adopted the Constitution on 26
November, 1949 but it came into effect on
January 26, 1950.
The Assembly dominated by the Indian National
Congress, the party that led India’s freedom
struggle.
The Assembly represented members from
different language
groups, castes, classes, religions and
occupations.

Chairman of the
Drafting Committee
of Indian
Constitution.
6. A Drafting committee chaired by Dr.B.R.Ambedkar
prepared a draft constitution.
Several rounds of thorough discussion took place
on the Draft Constitution, clause by clause.
The members deliberated for 114 days spread over
three years.
Every document presented and every word spoken
in the Constitution Assembly has been recorded
and preserved.
The Constituent Assembly worked in a
systematic, open and consensual manner.

written form and

constitution.
