Students will be able to design a product specifically for a nominated person. Students will be able to use their imaginations to create solutions to real life situations by designing technological advancements to solve problems or provide services. Key Competency: Thinking competent thinkers and problem-solvers actively seeking, using, and creating knowledge. Situation/Setting the Scene:Cars have become faster and more stream lined over the last century. Technologies are being adapted, changed and developed rapidly. Design Brief:If you could design a dream car for yourself, your parents or for a famous person, what sorts of features would you ensure that it has. Specifications: Your design must be functional for the person you are designing it for Each new technology needs to be explained as to how it will be used Technological Knowledge Technological Products Learning Experiences: (examine, identify, discuss, collect, observe, compare, read, describe) Juniors and Seniors Watch the first Youtube movie ‘Changing Architecture of the Motor Car’on the Transport Website and answer the questions on the Changing architecture of the Motor Car worksheets. Senior students could do this independently or in pairs, younger students can do it as a class or in groups Watch the youtube movies on http://topicstudies.wikispaces.com/Transport and learn how to make cars in Digital Lego Designer Watch the youtube movies on http://topicstudies.wikispaces.com/Transport and learn how to make cars in Sketchup Juniors Complete the ‘What is the same chart?’ (Kidspiration activity) Make a wish list of what you would like to see in a car Seniors Look carefully at the President’s car shown at the bottom of the Transport Websiteitemise some of the features it has that you might like in your own car Make a photo slideshow of cars through the ages, annotate the new improvements as they appeared Make a wish list of what you would like to see in a car

L.4 justify the nature of an intended outcome in relation to the need or opportunity, Describe the key attributes identified in stake holder feedback , which will inform the development of an outcome and its evaluation Learning Experiences:(generate, select, develop, adapt, present, test & evaluate, draw, model, plan) Juniors Level 1 o draw a picture of what your car would look like identifying all the special features, (you could use Paint or Lego Digital Designer) Level 2 o draw a picture of what your car would look like identifying all the special features, (you could use Paint or Lego Digital Designer) o identify who it is for and why they need those special features Seniors design a car for a specific person o yourself o a parent o a teacher o a famous person Level 3 o Think about the needs of that person, describe what the car should have and how it meets the needs of that person, describe what modifications will you need to make Level 4 o Think about the needs of that person, justify why that person should have those features, for what purpose and reasons. Include survey results that have asked that person what they would like You can use Lego Digital Designer, Sketchup, Paint or you can draw on paper Nature of Technology Characteristics of technology Learning Experiences: (impacts, cultural values, attitudes, behaviour, preferences, beliefs & values) Watch the Invention of the Automobile and answer the question ‘Why was the car invented?’ Watch the movie History of Transportation. The cities that had the large car manufacturers became very well off through the amount of money that was generated through employment, production and profitability. How would this have impacted on the workers and consumers?
