Tillage is the manipulation of soil with tools & implements for loosening the surface crust & bringing about conditions favorable for the germination of seeds and the growth of crops. soil condition resulting from tillage good Tilth - soft, friable & properly aerated crop emergence, establishment, growth and development easy infiltration of water & are retentive of moisture for satisfactory growth of plants To prepare the seed bed to a satisfactory level which promotes good germination and establishment of the seedlings To control weeds and improve close plant-soil interaction in the rooting zone. To loosen the soil for easy penetration and proliferation To remove the other sprouting materials in the soil To modify the soil temperature To break hard soil pans and improve drainage facilities To manage the plant residues by incorporating into the soil or to retain on the top layer to reduce erosion. To improve the physical conditions of the soil To harvest rain water easily and soil erosion can be minimised. To establish specific surface configurations for sowing, irrigation, drainage, etc. To incorporate and mix applied fertilizers and manures into the soil. To destroy the eggs and larvae of insects and their breeding places.

Weed competition is a major limiting factor for the productivity of crops. Weed control is one of the main concerns in organic farming. Weed depletes nutrient, water and light their by reducing crops yields drastically. The chemical intervention is not permitted for weed control purpose in organic farming system. Apprehension regarding the consequence of managing weeds without the use of herbicides is a major factor limiting the adoption of organic farming by conventional growers. As wide spread application of herbicides has led to concern about contamination of environment, residues problems in soil and water, toxicity to animals and appearance to resistant weeds. The elements to consider in controlling weed problems are only the non chemical methods of weed control. These include physical /mechanical, cultural and biological methods of weed control.

Common names : Bhendi, Lady’s FingerEconomic importance and uses :- Okra is more remunerative than the leafy vegetables. Tender green fruits are cooked in curry and also used in soups. The root and stem are useful for clearing cane juice in preparation of jaggery. Okra is rich in vitamins, calcium, potassium and other minerals. 100g consumable unripe bhendi fruits contain 10.4g dry matter, 3,100 calorie energy, 1.8g protein. The dry seeds contain 13-22% edible oil and 20-24% protein.Area and production:- India is the largest producer of okra in the world. The major bhendi growing states are Utter Pradesh, Orissa, Bihar and West Bengal. Popular varieties:- Pusa Makhmali Pusa Sawani Arka Anamika (Selection 10) Arka Abhay (Selection Punjab Padmini Punjab -7 Parbhani Kranti Varsha Uphar (HRB 9-2) Gujarat Bhendi 1

The study was conducted to determine influence of cowpea and soybean intercropping pattern and time of planting on yield and Gross Monetary Value (GMV) of sorghum. The treatments were included two legume crops, two time of planting, three planting patterns of legumes and sole crops (sorghum, soybean and cowpea). The experiment was conducted in randomized complete block design with three replication. Sorghum/soybean cropping system reduced sorghum grain yield by 23.9% where as sorghum/cowpea reduced by grain yield by 40.3%. The highest LER (1.55) and the lowest LER (1.19) was recorded in sorghum/soybean and sorghum/cowpea intercropping system. Highest gross monetary benefit (20561 Ethiopian birr) accrued from planting two rows of cowpea with the first weeding of sorghum in between the two rows of sorghum. However, it was at par with simultaneous planting of cowpea in double alternate plants within sorghum plants along with two rows of cowpea in between sorghum rows and two rows of soybean planted in between two rows of sorghum with first weeding of sorghum. Legumes crop soybean and cowpea should involved in sorghum cropping either simultaneously planting or sowing at first weeding or hoeing of sorghum.

Multistoried /multitier cropping system: As the name indicates, under this system two or more crops of different heights are grown simultaneously on a certain piece of land in any certain period of time. Thus land, water, and space are utilized in most efficient and economic way. Multistoried/ multitier cropping system aims at better use of the production components such as soil, water, air, space, radiation and other inputs on sustainable basis (Singh et al., 2014).
