2. HISTORY
In ancient days vitamins are known as
vitamines i.e viatal amino acids.
But later they realised that all the vitamins
are not aminoacids.
Some vitamins are amino acids but all the
amino acids are not viatamins.
3. Each vitamin has its own significant historical
background.
H.J. funk has coined the term vitamns.
Even though vitamins are very less in
requirement but they play very significant
role in our body growth , and regulation of
different metabolic functions.
4. Introduction
Vitamins are the organic compounds which
enhance the metabolism of
protiens, carbohydrates and fats.
Without vitamins the breakdown of food
could not occur.
Certain vitamins are participate in the
formation of blood cells hormones nervous
system and genetic material
5. Classification of vitamins
Based on the solubility…. Vitamins are
devided into two types.
# fat soluble
# water soluble
6.
7. WATER SOLUBLE VITAMINS
These are the vitamins, which are soluble In
the water and almost all the water soluble
vitamins are available in water based food
materials(source)
The vitamins are
Vitamin-B
Vitamin-C
8. Fat soluble vitamins
All the fat soluble vitamins are available in fat
containing food materials and some
vegetables.(source).
The fat soluble vitamins are
Vitamin-A
Vitamin-D
Vitamin-E
Vitamin-K
15. Vitamin-B
Vitamin b is usually called as b-complex
because ther are many sub-vitamins in
vitamin B.
Another reason is the chemical structure of b-
vitamins are very complicated to explain and
their complex nature brought the name as b-
complex(this is the well known theory but
there is no official recognition of this reason
just an assumption from olden days)
