7. SMART CITIES MISSION
The Mission will cover 100 cities and its duration will be five years (FY2015-16 to FY2019-20).
The total number of 100 Smart Cities have been distributed among the States financial support to the
Mission to the extent of Rs. 48,000 crores over five years i.e. on an average Rs. 100 crore per city per
year.
Smart Cities are inventing, reinventing and building themselves. New solutions to new problems and
chronic needs are required, and the necessary tools do not even exist yet. This requires a huge effort
on Research and Development.
A "smart city" is one that has developed technological infrastructure that enables it to collect,
aggregate, and analyze real-time data to improve the lives of its residents

14. ALTERNATIVES FOR
RECYCLING: ONE-
BIN SYSTEM
recycling system can raise a lot of
doubts, but as it turns out, it was already
tested at the city of Montgomery
(Alabama) where the combination of an
easier process for the citizens and the
efficiency of the MaxDiverter system
managed to increase recycling rates
from 1 to 70%. This alternative system
also brings important benefits to the
administrations: since all of the collection
system is unified under one destination
and one truck fleet, a City Council can
save up to 20% on their waste
management budget.

15. SMART MOBILITY
Owning a car is still cool but it is not smart
at all. A car drives in average only 1.7
people per year and it is responsible for
25% of the global CO2 footprint. Bikes
were definitely part of our urban
environment since their invention.
Nowadays it is an important component
when planning our modern smart city
transportation strategies

16. SPAIN PAVES THE WAY
FOR ALTERNATIVELY-
FUEL CARS
The Spanish Government has passed the
Alternative Energy Vehicles Impulse Resolution
(VEA); now the goal is to increase the number of
these vehicles and to boost their industrialization.
(electric vehicles, Liquefied Petroleum Gas, ,
Compressed Natural Gas, Liquefied Natural Gas,
biofuels and hydrogen batteries)

17. CLIMATE CHANGE
The capital of Peru hosted the 20th
Conference on Climate Change held
by the UNO, attended by more than
ten thousand representatives from 195
different countries December 2019.
After two weeks and a 25-hour
extension, no definitive agreement
could be reached.

18. GREEN ENERGY
Fira de Barcelona is committed to green
energy and, from this year onwards, it
will only consume electricity from
renewable sources. With this initiative,
the institution is taking an important
step towards its commitment to the
United Nations SDGs (Sustainable
Development Goals), as it will prevent
the emission of 12,500 CO2 tonnes per
year

19. THE ENERGY
NERVOUS SYSTEM:
SMART GRID
The smart city puzzle has many pieces and they
come in many different forms. Infrastructure,
information and communication technology
(ICT), sensors, transport, health and energy are
aspects that need to be perfectly integrated to
make cities the right kind of places for people to
develop within society. It is hard to determine just
how important each of these parts is but if there
is one thing that is essential for life it is energy.
We could not survive, work or operate any
systems without energy: there would be no
vehicles, no computers and no air-conditioning
systems.

20. REAL AND ECONOMICALLY
SUSTAINABLE MODELS
Cities compete with each other in
order to be attractive to talented
people, to attract initiatives with the
capacity for wealth creation and to
offer opportunities"
"A Smart City is one that uses
technology to improve the efficiency
of public services, and provides its
citizens with resources to improve
their quality of life"
