Media
A study found the Generation Z is losing
interest in social media platforms with 64%
of teens taking a break from them and 34%
even leaving permanently.

time on the platforms (41%), too much
negative content (35%), not using social
media very often (31%), a lack of interest in
the content (26%), privacy concerns (22%),

Customers Are Co-
Developers
Challenger banks like Monzo are rolling out
labs that involve users in the testing of new
features. This customer-involvement is part
of desiging new, relevant customer
journeys and releasing product iterations to
growing customer groups.
Besides the lab, Monzo has also been
seeking feedback from customers in other
ways. They started in-person interviews
called “Testing Tuesdays” at the Monzo
offices and created an online forum to
exchange views and polls. This forum is open
to all interested customers and creates a
human connection with everyone involved.

Mastercard Scale
Biometrics
Mastercard believe their fingerprint
authentication cards are the cards of the
future, with increased security coming from
one’s digital fingerprint being stored on the
card itself, making remote attacks from
fraudsters impossible.
They have now created a new battery-
powered sleeve which can be sent to
customers’ homes where they can set up the
fingerprint identification themselves, without
having to go into a branch to verify their
identity.

Adidas’s Ocean Plastic
Moonshot
In a contribution to rid the world’s oceans of
plastic, Adidas declared a moonshot for 2024
whereby all their products will be made from
the recycled plastic.
The sportswear brand already reached 1
million pairs of shoes made from recycled
plastic in 2017 (11 plastic bottles = 1 pair of
shoes), and hope to continue growing this
number until all products follow suit. The
company makes approximately 450 million
pairs of shoes each year, so putting it into
perspective it is very much a moonshot.

9. COMMUNICATION
D&G’s Runway Drones
A stunt to add technology to the classic
catwalk event, Dolce & Gabbana flew their
newest handbags along the runway using
drones.
They surprised guests after asking them to
turn off their WiFi prior to their show, then
having the drones opening the event by
flying to the end of the runway, rotating on
the spot and returning backstage ready for
the rest of the show to begin.

10. COMMUNICATION
Charity Gamified
The mobile payment platform Alipay
gamifies going green with the app Ant
Forest, rewarding all actions that are
reducing carbon footprint like using public
transport or walking. Users collect “energy
points” and compete with friends to grow
virtual trees.
After collecting enough points, Ant Financial
will plant a real tree. Alipay is also taking
transparency issues around charitable work
in China very seriously by using blockchain
to power the donation platform and installing
cameras to show participants the planted
forests.

12. EXPERIENCE
Kia’s Bot Triples
Conversions
Kia’s new chatbot - named Kian - acts as an
expert source for information for customers
to engage with and find out more about the
vehicles. In just 6 months after launching,
the bot drove a 21% sale conversion rate, as
opposed to kia.com’s rate of 7%.
In these months, the chatbot exchanged
approximately 600,000 messages with
customers, which led to x50 more
engagement. The bot also uses answers
given by customers to improve and to inform
retargeted ads. When sending follow-up
messages through Kian, the company has
seen a 24% response rate.

Nike’s Retail App
This app from Nike will be rolled out for two
stores before being introduced to more

acquisition of Zodiac, a startup specializing
in consumer data and analytics.
The app enables store technology to
recognize people as they enter the store, and
will allow the user to open exclusive
products close to them. It can be used to

Unlimited MoviePass
MoviePass, the plan that lets subscribers
watch a movie a day, every day, for 10$ a
month, is back after experimenting a bit too
much with their offering.
After temporarily removing subscribers’
access to AMC theaters and to specify
movies, as well as limiting certain films to
one viewing only, the company is back with
the unlimited plan and just one other
variation of it: three movies a month and
three free months of iHeartRadio music
streaming.
