Dispositional tuning is a practice in which we engage in order to be “in tune” with ourselves and others. The Teacher Education programs at SFU are premised upon four guiding dispositions that speak directly to this particular type of attunement: pedagogical sensitivity; other-directedness; reflective capacity; and, critical mindedness.

We describe how to enhance online tutors to recognize and respond to student emotion. Intelligent tutors model student attention and estimate confidence and motivation, based on factors such as time spent, responses produced, success rate and situational context. We describe work with Affective Learning Companions, real-time computational agents that infer emotions and leverage this knowledge to increase student performance. One goal is to determine the affective state of students and provide appropriate support to improve learning in the long term. The talk describes emotion recognition (measure student emotion -- frustration, motivation, self-confidence, boredom and fatigue) using non-invasive wireless sensors (skin conductance glove, pressure mouse, face recognition camera and posture sensing devices); pedagogical feedback to evaluate which interventions increase performance and in which contexts, and optimization to make decisions leading to long-term learning.

The main purpose of this study was to assess the Self Concept among Intermediate students of A.P. Model Schools. In this study, Normative Survey Method was adopted. The participants of the study were 200 Intermediate II year students of ten A.P. Model Schools , Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh, India in 2014-2015 session. The researchers used Self Concept checklist developed by N. Venkataramana (1976). Its validity and reliability has been well established. Data was analyzed using Descriptive Statistics and Differential Analysis (t-test). The findings revealed that the subgroups of Intermediate students did not show any significant difference in the five dimensions of Self Concept. Among the five dimensions, the first three are negative dimensions and last two are positive dimensions. A negative relationship was found between the first three dimensions and subgroups where as a positive relationship was found between the last two dimensions and subgroups. Based on the findings, suggestions were made that same study may be extended to A.P. Model Schools of 13 Districts of Andhra Pradesh, other Junior colleges, Degree colleges, PG colleges, Engineering and Medical colleges etc. Different other variables like management, locality, birth order, caste, educational status of father, educational status of mother, size of family etc. can be included.

In the context of the complementary roles (teacher-student), the teacher's implicit theories interfere and form the educational relationship, direct the categorization, the resulting expectations and the behaviors of the interacting persons, thus obstructing or facilitating the learning process. The aim of the present study is to outline aspects of the teachers' implicit theories and discuss whether they can be altered, emphasizing on the emergence of the imaginary element relying on student assessment. In order to achieve the aim above, a meta-analysis of a series of four researches is carried out examining the ways that the implicit theories of teachers are linked to the assessment judgments and the consequent expectations for student assessment.

Running Head: RESEARCH PROPOSAL 1 Example Research Proposal Pamela Murphy PSY 326 Research Methods Instructor’s Name Date Submitted NOTE: The details in this example research proposal are based on a published study which I co- authored with Charles B. Hodges and my doctoral dissertation, both in 2009. Portions of the text are excerpted from the published article (Hodges & Murphy, 2009) and the dissertation (Murphy, 2009). RESEARCH PROPOSAL 2 Example Research Proposal Introduction The concept of self-efficacy was introduced nearly 40 years ago. “Perceived self-efficacy refers to beliefs in one’s capabilities to organize and execute the courses of action required to produce given attainments” (Bandura, 1977, p. 3). Self-efficacy has been identified as an important construct for academic achievement in traditional learning environments for at least two decades. Zimmerman and Schunk (2003) go so far as to say that “the predictive power of self-efficacy beliefs on students’ academic functioning has been extensively verified” (p. 446). Its importance has been noted consistently through all levels of the educational process, with various student populations, and in varied domains of learning. While learner self-efficacy has a well-established literature base in the context of traditional learning environments, self-efficacy research related to learners in online and other non-traditional learning environments is relatively new. Hodges (2008a) has called for researchers to explore self-efficacy in online learning environments. Additionally, in terms of students’ self-efficacy beliefs toward academic achievement, “there have been few efforts to investigate the sources underlying these self-beliefs” (Usher, 2009, p. 275). The purpose of the proposed study is to investigate the relative strength of the four traditionally proposed sources of self-efficacy beliefs of students enrolled in a technology-intensive asynchronous college math college. RESEARCH PROPOSAL 3 Literature Review Self-efficacy beliefs have been found to be significant contributors to motivation and performance in academic achievement (Multon, Brown, & Lent, 1991), group functioning (Gully, Incalcaterra, Joshi, & Beaubien, 2002; Stajkovic & Luthans, 1998), health (Holden, 1991), and sports performance (Moritz, Feltz, Fahrbach, & Mack, 2000). Research revealing the connection between self-efficacy and mathematics, the context of the proposed study, includes many cultures and levels of education (Malpass, O’Neil, & Hocevar, 1999; Pietsch, Walker, & Chapman, 2003; Randhawa, Beamer, & Lundberg, 1993; Stevens, Olivarez, Lan, & Tallent- Runnels, 2004) and continues to the present (Usher, 2009). Sources of Self-Efficacy Albert Bandura’s (1977) introduction of self-efficacy theory included the proposition that self-efficacy is derived from four principal sources: mastery experiences, v ...
