The design process involves 7 steps: 1) Identifying the brief to design a bedroom/study for a teenager, 2) Analyzing the brief to determine what must be included, 3) Researching interior design ideas through books, magazines, and store visits to collect samples, 4) Identifying possible furniture layouts, color schemes, and flooring and heating options, 5) Choosing a final solution after considering all options, 6) Creating a scaled floor plan drawing, and 7) Presenting the final plan with details of the color scheme, furnishings, flooring, lighting, and heating system.
1. Design Process
1 Identify the brief
Design a plan for a bedroom come study suitable for a teenager. Give
details of the colour scheme, furnishings, floor covering, lighting and
kitchen systems you would use.
2 Analyse the brief
Work out what must be included in the plan. It should fulfil the
teenagers needs, i.e a place for sleeping, study, storage of clothes and
books, leisure activities
3 Research
Look up books and magazines on interior design for ideas. Visit
furniture and DIY shops. Collect paint charts, leaflets and samples.
Make notes and sketches and store these in a design folder.
4 Identify possible solutions
Suggest possible furniture layouts and different colour schemes. List
the possibilities for soft furnishings and accessories. Check the
options for floor coverings and heating. Discuss with
parents/guardians.
5 Choose a Solution
Having carefully considered all the possibilities, decide on a final
solution.
6 Plan
2. Draw a floor plan on graph paper, with scaled drawings of furniture and
fittings
7 Action
Present the plan, with details of the colour scheme, furnishings, floor
covering, lighting and heating system
