DEVELOPMENT OF
THE SELF IN
SOCIETY
SELF-AWARENESS, SELF-ESTEEM AND SELF
DEVELOPMENT
ARE YOU READY?
Strategies to Build Exceptional Self-esteem
(1MIN lecture) Me on a video
• We are not born with any certain level of self-esteem or confidence. What we believe and feel
about ourselves is instead developed early in life as we’re presented with numerous messages
from family, friends, media, and culture that begin to shape the way we view ourselves and the
world around us. We may have been criticized, ignored, or ridiculed, or we may have been lucky
and experienced success, and received praise and respect. Either way, we must learn to be
comfortable with whom we are and the best we have within us in order to have any self-worth.
• Our view of ourselves follows us into adulthood and we must learn to deal with it. It seems to be
human nature to size people up and compare ourselves to others, though until we have self-
acceptance these personal evaluations will lead to distress as there will always be someone
smarter, wiser, and more talented than we are.
DRUM ROLLS
• Count down timer….
• learning objectives
• So who you are?
• How do we maintain our self-esteem?
FORTUNATE
• Do your thing…
HERE IS HOW TO BUILD SELF-ESTEEM AND
CONFIDENCE FOR SUCCESS. (ME)
1. Beawareofpersonalstrengths
(Engagement)
(Question and answer approach)(5min)
HOW TO BUILD SELF-ESTEEM
• It’s a known fact that we all have strengths and
weakness,
• Who can tell me what strength are?
WEAKNESSES
• What are weaknesses?
• But for some reason we usually focus on areas
we struggle with, and forget to develop and
embrace our strengths.
• Why any volunteer?
(BACKGROUND) HIP HOP MUSIC
• Knowing what you do best and
how you can shine sets you up to
be excellent every day.
NAME THINGS THAT BOOST YOUR CONFIDENCE
•What you love
doing?
ART
READING OR ACTING
DRINKING
DANCING (VIDEO)
THEN YOU HAVE TO ASK YOURSELF THIS QUESTIONS
• “When am I at my best?”
• “What am I usually doing, and how does it make me feel?”
• That make you feel confident and build Self-Esteem
2. MODEL PEOPLE WITH CONFIDENCE
The people we associate and surround ourselves
with has a major impact on the person we
become
MODEL PEOPLE WITH CONFIDENCE
• We simply learn much of what we do from modelling, whether it’s
constructive or destructive.
• One of the best ways to begin feeling more confident is to learn how a
confident person thinks, behaves, believes, and interacts with others
VISUAL THE PERSON YOU WANT TO BE
QUESTION AND ANSWER
• How do you view yourself now? What about in the next 5 years?
• This is the time you start to think about your career path
• Hobbies
• Talents you can make money
• Hand worker
• One of the best ways to boost confidence is to change your perception and
image of who you expect to be. Do not underestimate your true
potential
ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS?
• Right moving along
• What we need to Visual the person you want to be?
ACHIEVEMENT AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS
• A major factor of healthy self-esteem is trusting and believing that we are able
to achieve a given task. In other words we need to develop a positive self-
efficacy.
WHAT IS SELF-EFFICACY?
• Is the optimistic self-belief in our competence or chances of successfully
accomplishing a task
•
• Those who believe they can accomplish a task likely will, and those who feel
uncertain will likely shrink away from a task at the first set-back. Self-efficacy then
plays a role in being motivated to take action and in staying resilient when set-
backs emerge.
IMPROVE YOUR SKILLS AND PRACTICE
• Being better at some things versus other is just a part of life, but it doesn’t mean
we can’t learn, practice, and improve our skills. If there’s an area you lack
confidence in, start developing other skills
SOME OF THE WAYS YOU CAN ACHIEVE OR
ACCOMPLISH TASKS ARE
• . Educate yourself and become an expert
• Anyone can become an expert in their chosen field with enough dedication to
learning and expanding knowledge. Become a student of your field or industry. There
is no reason we can’t learn everything we need to know on a topic in this day and age.
We have an endless supply of information we can research from the internet, attend
lectures, reading books, or taking classes. By expanding your knowledge and
understanding of a topic you can learn to trust and recognize yourself as an industry
expert.
• (Hyperlink to a teacher teaching PCK classroom video)
6. SET SMALL ACHIEVABLE GOALS
• A great way to boost confidence and self-trust is to see success and
accomplishments in your life. Set small milestones that you’ll be able to achieve.
Little by little, as you accomplish new goals, you’ll feel more hopeful and
optimistic about the future. Your confidence will build as you see success in
different areas and you’ll realize you’re capable of achieving much morethan you
previously believed.
GAME TIME
• Say bingo and your name if the word describes your personality goal
• Optimistic
• Confidence
• Resilience
• Self-motivated
• Achiever
• Go-Getter
• Graduate student
• Career driven
WHAT IS THE ONE THING THAT YOU CAN TAKE
FROM THIS LESSON (WRITE ONE SENTENCE)
CONCLUSION
•But there’s more
. USE POSITIVE SELF-TALK AND AVOID NEGATIVE
SELF-TALK (DRUMS)
• . The most integral part of self-esteem is the thoughts we have about our
abilities and self-worth. We must program our brain to focus on encouraging
and positive ideas, images, and beliefs.
REFLECTION
•Learn to be optimistic
(Achievement and
accomplishments) (5 min)
THERE ARE GOING TO BE TIMES WHEN WE FAIL AND RUN INTO
UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES, AND BEING ABLE TO VIEW THE FUTURE
AS BRIGHT IN THESE DARK TIMES IS CRUCIAL.
LEARN TO BE OPTIMISTIC
(PEER ROBIN ROUND)
• When things don’t go as planned how do you handle it?
• Do you accept your plight and give up, or do you have faith that things will turn
around?
• On papers write something you failed to do, one word. And pass it to your peer
on your left hand
• The peer write one word suggestion, comment ,critique or advice
• Then swap back again.
(GROUP DISCUSSION) (2MIN)
CREATE A HIGH SELF-ESTEEM LIVING SPACE (LECTURE)
• Having an optimistic outlook provides the key to staying more positive, resilient,
and confident,
• I love the idea of have a sacred living space, or a place where I can go to
recharge and unwind
DEVELOP SUPPORTIVE RELATIONSHIPS
(PEOPLE WE ASSOCIATE OURSELVES WITH)
• There are going to be times when people don’t understand the dreams and
aspirations you have. Out of their own personal insecurities they’ll promise that
you’ll fail and deplore you not to try.
•What do you do with such people?
(Class discussion)
ACT CONFIDENT
(BE AWARE OF PERSONAL STRENGTHS)
• . Make sure to stand tall, put a smile on your face, dress in a way that you feel
good about, and speak and introduce yourself to people with a confident tone of
voice.
•Do not forget to express your abilities
DON’T EXPECT TO BE PERFECT
