2. Working as a coach is extremely rewarding. Our
clients invite us into their world and ask us to help
them achieve their goals and dreams. Much of
our work can be around organization….
* What needs to happen?
* When does it need to happen?
3. Whether your prospective goals are business-related, or in
your personal life, defining clear and concise goals is of
utmost importance. If you don’t have clear goals, you can
end up confused about what you want to achieve and may
end up on the path to stagnation. Clear goals can grant
you purpose and the momentum to move forward.
4. Five techniques to help you
define your goals:

5. Understand your goal. In order to define clear goals, the first step
is to determine what you’d like to achieve. If you don’t know
where you’re going, how can you get there?
Once you’ve figured out where you need to go and what to
achieve, you’ll be able to come up with concrete goals to help you
get there.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Set aside some time to sit down and brainstorm your long-term
plans, dreams, and desires.

6. Set a timeline. Setting timelines will help curb
procrastination and spur you on towards your goals. Having
a timeline also helps because you’ll know what you want and
when you want it!
Decide upon goals to meet in a month, a year, and even five
or ten years from now.
Make a plan and try to stay on track, but it isn’t written in
stone! Allow for changes on the way, but keep your eyes on
the prize.

7. Make sure your goals are realistic. With realistic goals, you can
almost guarantee your success. If your goals aren’t achievable,
then you’ll only end up stressing yourself out trying to accomplish
something that’s out of your grasp. Remember, a clear goal is a
realistic one.
Break your long-term goals down into small, achievable steps.
Reaching multiple milestones along your journey will give you a
feeling of accomplishment and motivate you to keep going.
#3
8. Be specific. Color your goals with the details of exactly what you
want. Avoid being vague and using generalities. When you make a
specific goal, you’ll be more suited to accomplishing it.
Specific goals help you form your timeline and define your actions.
There’s no guesswork involved when dealing with specifics.
For example, “make more money with my business” is a vague
goal. With some specificity added in, it becomes “I will make
$1,500 more per month, three months from today.” This goal is
measurable, specific, and realistic.

9. Refine your goals. Your goals will change as your life changes.
Adjust them to make sure they are still realistic, achievable, and
specific.
It’s all right to do this multiple times throughout your life. What’s
important to you now may not be so five months or five years
from now. Be flexible. Revisit your goals from time to time and
don’t be afraid to make changes where necessary.

10. Some people wander through life, unsure of their purpose or what
they want to achieve. As coaches we support clients to define
their purpose and then work with them on how to get there. It is
a big responsibility that coaches take very seriously. As in all
professions there are mediocre coaches, good coaches and
superior coaches. At The Coach Training Academy we work with
our students to prepare them to be among the best.
