Evaluation 4: Who would be the audience for your media product?
1. Who would be the
audience for your media
product?
2. Teenagers and Young
Adults
My target audience is teenagers to young adult, of
both genders and who like pop punk music. They
usually dress down and don’t attract much attention,
people who keep to there selves and attend a lot of
gigs which is just the stereotypical perspective of
them. I see them as being individuals, different and
not afraid of being who they are. I tried my best to
bring in independence and the image replica of the
80’s movie which I think a lot of people in my target
market group could relate to and may like think it’s
different and it doesn’t follow all of the magazines that
are out there and play it safe. The genre type will
appeal to several others, however this magazine is
targeting just for young people, but it doesn’t mean
that it’s just for their purchase anyone is free to buy a
copy of it and share it with there friends to get the
word around.
3. Teenagers and Young
Adults
Pop punk music covers a wide span of artist which
the majority of people have come across from time
to time. I was following the same genre of ‘Kerrang’
but with a different design approach. There has been
a recurring theme of rock bands on the front of their
magazine and so I thought I would follow the
conventions and stick with a band on the front which
might draw attention my magazine as well as all the
other music magazines of the same genre.
I associated pop punk music with many different
bands for example You Me At Six, All Time Low, We
Are The In Crowd, Paramore and several others but
this is just my opinion and different people have
different opinions and so it’s hard to judge what
different people like, although I can try with my
opinions, judgement and research. I am very familiar
with this type of music as I myself listen to some of
the music and I have read ‘Kerrang’ before, so I
know along the lines what this audience is used to
and I have some ideas of what I would like to be
4. Teenagers and Young
Adults
My magazine’s target market audience don’t really have a specific image for themselves, they
don’t follow fashion and this means it’s easier to address my audience because they will not
necessarily care what the models are wearing. For me when creating this magazine I thought
a little bit about the clothing to link with the scene, although it wasn’t the main thing that I
focused on.
In my opinion since I fit the stereotype I buy branded clothing, I shop on the high-street but
mostly online from websites like ASOS.com, Topshop, JAGK, Down But Not Out, FireFox,
GlamourKills and I think the majority of them are labels that bands model for and this is what a
lot of people do buy items because someone famous is a part of it. Relating to my magazine if
there is a well known band on the front people in my audience are most likely to buy it.
My audience are very practical when it comes to clothing, stereotypically talking my target
market group usually wear a t-shirt, jeans and trainers. T-shirts usually branded with a bands
name so my target market have a great focus on music, any kind of jeans as they are easy
and functional, and lastly trainers are usually converse or vans because they are hard-wearing
and last a long time, additionally if they are teenagers they wont want to waste the very little
money that they have because the majority of my audience are students and don’t have a lot
of money and several of them are in debt. This affected me with the price of my magazine as
well, as it should be in-expensive so that my audience can afford it.
5. Teenagers and Young
Adults
In conclusion to compete with my competitors on the market I need to take a lot of points into
consideration like the price, my magazine various around the same price of all the other
magazines on the stand currently.
The model on the front and how the star famous person draws my target market audience in
and they should be bigger or have something that over rules all of the other magazines on the
stand and my target audience but my magazine and not another.
The clothing and how that affects the magazine, if they are wearing similar clothing the
audience are more likely to feel that they relate to the person on the front cover and in the
glossy magazines.
Overall to attract my target market audience I need to be unique and different however still
follow the criteria to beat the other music magazines that are out there that are familiar to
mine.
