3. Chores: the everyday work around a house or farm. Job: anything a person is expected or obliged to do Vocabulary
4. Many people have different jobs that they are expected to do on a daily basis both at work and at home. “At jobs outside the home, people have many things to do. For example, teachers take attendance, go to staff meetings, and learn with their students.” Background Information
5. Ask students: “What kind of work activities do people do at home?” List students’ responses on the board. (At this point I would as students to give some examples of what students who live on a farm might do, given that no one lives on a farm in the class) Write several jobs on strips of paper and put into a small box Activity
6.
7. Tell students that they will be acting out jobs that people do at home. Have a student pull a strip from the small box. Whisper the job written on the strip to the student. Help the student brainstorm ways to silently act out the job. Direct the class to guess the job the student acts out. Say to students: “In which room or rooms of a home is this job done?” Repeat steps 2 through 6 for all the job strips in the box. Activity Continued
9. Read over the BLM with students. Be sure that they can identify each room. Direct students to draw a job being done in each room. Tell them to match jobs to rooms. For instance, explain that they could draw someone washing dishes in the kitchen, but not in the bathroom. Instruct students to fill the house with jobs done at home. Activity Continued
