Picasso experimented with neoclassical styles in the early 1920s, creating paintings, sculptures, etchings and drawings that referenced classical Greek and Roman art. However, he put his own abstract, Cubist spin on these traditional forms and subjects. After a few years, Picasso abandoned neoclassicism and returned to more abstract, surreal styles that he helped pioneer.
