Tracy Kidder s Mountains Beyond Mountains
In Mountains Beyond Mountains, Tracy Kidder documents and admires the work of Dr. Paul Farmer,
a Harvard University graduate with a Ph. D. in medical anthropology. Kidder becomes interested in
Farmer s character, philosophies, and motives, so he shares Farmer s story to inspire others to be the
change they want to see in the world. He writes about the doctor s compassion towards those stricken
by poverty, particularly in Haiti and Peru, and tells the story of Farmer s aid to them.
Tracy Kidder, the author, meets Paul Farmer while he is in Haiti to report on American soldiers
stationed there due to the recent unrest in Haiti. He gets to know who Farmer really is and describes
his motives and character. In a hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, ... Show more content on

They marry after two years of being together and eventually give birth to their daughter, Catherine.
Dr. Farmer traveled to Lima, Peru, to address the MDR TB outbreaks there; they were generally more
serious than the ones in Haiti. He continues to contribute to solving the MDR TB issues in Peru by
giving an informative speech about the myths of MDR TB. The team of health officials in Peru
concluded that a lot more money would be needed to treat the MDR TB patients. The issue was where
they would get that money from.
Kidder travels alongside of Dr. Farmer to Cuba, to battle additional cases of MDR TB. Kidder has a
difficult time moving away from his political perspective of Cuba. Farmer encourages him to focus on
the health system, because no matter Cuba s other conditions and reputations, people are still dying
from diseases and lack of medical structure. Next, Kidder and Farmer travel to Russia. Farmer
addresses the issues of the outbreak of diseases in prisons and receives a grant from the World Bank to
supply medicine and extra food to sick prisoners. It is not long after this that the organization that
Farmer is most associated with, Partners in Health, receives a grant for 45 million dollars. This money
would serve to help fight MDR TB in Peru, curing at least four out of every five

How Human Resource Policies Influence the Performance of Medium Sized Manufacturing Firms
1. Introduction Globalization has created a paradigm shift in the ways by which firms conduct their
business. The convergence of world economies has minimized and in some cases eliminated both
legislative and geographical barriers to international production and sale of goods and services. The
flip side of this process is the increased competition for world markets created especially by the threat
of multinational firms to local firms (Garry Litan, 1998). Local firms must find ways to compete and
survive the threat of take over and crowding out of the market by multinational producers who enjoy
favorable economies of scale. This is effectively achieved by ways of in themselves creating this very
economy of scale; expanding business operations helps them lower the marginal cost of production
allowing them to therefore provide a favorable pricing policy within the market. In achieving the
aforementioned, firms must build up capacity. The attention of managers and researchers alike has
been commonly directed towards assets in the sense of physical (fixed and current) and monetary
assets (optimal capital structure) of the firm in achieving this objective. Perhaps as an oversight or of
limited interest is the aspect of human

The Struggle Between Dido And Conflicts In The Aeneid By...
Conflicts abound throughout Virgil s epic twelve book poem and they are part and parcel of a story
that involves much more than the tragic, yet romantic interlude between Aeneas and Dido. The story is
about death and rebirth, ...finding the origins of Rome in the destruction of Troy (Puchner, 978) and
the painful struggle within that rebirth which gives so much more meaning to the life that comes from
it. Wars and a man I sing yet many blows he took on land and seas from the gods above and many
losses he bore (Virgil, The Aeneid, 981)
Virgil seeks to explore beyond mere conflicts that are between two people, such as Aeneas and Dido,
and moreover sets out to amplify upon events surrounding the imbroglio that envelops an individual.
Aeneas must deal with affairs of the heart juxtaposed against his unswerving sense of duty which
binds him to serve the will of the gods above all and at any cost. From the onset of the story, Aeneas is
affected by an inability, due to particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Virgilian hero Aeneas is set a step above the rest and as such is beyond the scope of reach we as
the audience have of him, but it is within the stories that unfold alongside his and all the trials and
tribulations which others must endure that we are able to fully comprehend what afflictions he braves
despite the pain it causes not only him and the people around him, but us as the reader. Virgil wanted
us as the reader to take this journey with Aeneas and bear witness to all that he boldly confronts so
that the impact becomes that much more palpable. The story was, after all, an ode, if you will, to the
greatness of Rome and her glorious savior

Impact Of Reflection On Student Learning
a. How did your lesson impact student learning?
What I taught them prepared them for continued learning on animal classification and prepared them
to start plant classification because the familiarity of classification as a whole. In my lesson I
incorporated a phenomenon discussion to get the students to start thinking scientifically by
questioning. I used a PowerPoint in order to focus the students attention and to visualize the topic I
was discussing. The use of the instructional model impacted student learning through being an
important resource for the students. The students had a reference to see how to convey information in
written form or how to write expository writings. Having the model allowed the students to be more
comfortable with informational writing and to be able to focus on understanding the content. The
prewriting graphic organizer was used in order for the students to be able organize their ideas and
know what they are writing about before they begin their rough draft. This impacted student learning
by helping them produce a better and more thought out writing. My plan was for the students to listen
to the book being read and be able to get the majority of the information from my reading, which was
also projected on the board. This was not the reality and the students needed the photocopied versions
of the book to finish their prewriting. This turned out to better support the learners by having that
resource available and the students were then able to

treatments are radiation therapy, and if your leukemia gets worse they will perform stem cell

The community of Pensacola, Florida has one inspiring tight group of people who care as much as

Meret it es is a mummy showcased at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. In the Egyptian section, the
museum showed the multiple parts created for Meret it es burial. Beside the body, other items are
placed in the inner coffin. It consists of a gold cartonnage on top of the mummy and 100 ushebtis
surrounding the body to assist during her travels in the afterlife ( Egyptian Art , 2015). Next, the inner
coffin gets placed in the outer coffin with two inches to spare on each side (Roastofer, 2015). All

Starting from the front top of the coffin, it has a sculpted head showing the face of the Pharaoh. It is
covered in gold leaf to represent the color of the skin glowing in the sun. On top of the head is a

represent reviving Meret it es. Going below the neck is a picture of Meret ie es on the right dress in
white asking the god to be let into the afterlife. Underneath the picture, it shows detailed patterns I
believe to represent jewelry she would have worn. Moving down the body, another set of wings and a
dung beetle are placed near her heart. The dung beetle is holding a circle which I believe is to
represent the heart of reviving her. Next is a woman with her wings open. Rosalie mentioned that the
woman would close her wings at night and open them to wake up Meret it es. Across the pelvis shows
a dead Meret it es with two women on each side mourning for her. Underneath that is Thoth, god of
wisdom and writing. He is using an instrument to write that her spirit may enter the next world.

will survive more than five years. We sought to examine what distinguishes the survivors from the rest
of the patients.

Chapter Of Alpha Omicron Pi
Preface:
For my subculture, I decided to do the Beta Zeta chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi, also known as AOII,
because I became a sister in the fall of 2015. Although I have spent nearly two semesters with the
sorority, I still have a lot to learn. Due to my lack of knowledge, there are many assumptions. My first
assumption is about the leadership council of Beta Zeta. I presumed the girls in charge of the chapter
were elected because of popularity. I also believe the leaders are running for the sake of their resumes.
Another preconception I have is that sororities do not promote leadership. As far as bigs go, I
considered them as a friend inside the sorority, not a leader, which is another assumption of mine. A
big is an older sister in the sorority, who decides to become a mentor to a newer, younger sister. The
younger sister is known as a little, and any question she has or guidance she needs is directed towards
her big. I would like find the true meaning behind both being an officer on the Leader s Council and a
big. I look forward to what my research will find.
INTRODUCTION:
A series of observations, interviews, peer reviewed articles, and surveys taken as field notes will be
the primary sources to my research. The order of the paper will go from the history of AOII to
discussing leadership inside AOII, to challenging the idea of bigs being considered a leadership
position.
To begin my research, I formed some critical guiding questions. My first was based off

Lord Woolf s The Civil Procedure Rules
Within England and Wales the Civil Procedure Rules govern the way in which a case should be
conducted within the courts. These rules were introduced in 1999 to enable the court within England
and Wales to deal with cases honestly and by restructuring the civil justice process they were able to
do. This was to resolve the cases quickly and effectively without utilizing court proceedings. The Civil
Procedure rules can be applied within the County courts, The High Court and The Civil Division of
the Court of Appeal. Lord Woolf put these new Civil Procedure Rules into place. Lord Woolf
published a final report in 1996, this final report analysed in detail what the reforms would fulfil and
whether they would be well received. This then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rule suggests that the legal representatives and their parties should assist the judges in order to
achieve the objective. Under section 1.1 of the Civil Procedure Rules it discusses the way in which
practitioners should behave in order to succeed . In 1999 the Civil Procedure Rules came into place
these rules were accompanied by Practice Directions , which replaced the Rules of the Supreme Court
and also the County Court Rule . These amendments allowed the rules to be simpler also providing an
extensive outline for a general application. Lord Woolf suggested that there should be a transformation
of the literature, which would be able to support the approach and the legal interpretation of words.
The new rules were created to have an accessible and equal attitude due the overriding objective. On
the other hand, the new rules did introduce many changes but many of them came from the old system
such as, before action begins the claimant has to communicate with the defendant; also the claimant
should take action within a fixed period. However every proceeding starts with the claim form; this
became the substitute for the writ, which was usually for the High court, and the summons for the
County Court. This allowed the new system to be much simpler and efficient compared to the old
system . The Pre action protocols were created to focus on the

The Road to Becoming a Teacher
Shayne McCormick
Mr. Katz
Senior Project Research Paper
January 8, 2002
The Road to Becoming a Teacher
Teachers bear the heavy responsibility of molding the minds of our nation s most precious resource, its
children. The road to becoming a teacher is a long one, involving post high school education, people
skills, and a desire to change lives. These traits, when accompanied by experience and good
techniques, form the foundation for an effective, life altering educator. Before anything else, teachers
must have a desire to impact the lives of their students (Education). Some teachers teach because they
want to help children learn and grow and would like to make a contribution to society. Others have an
intellectual fascination with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Teachers must be ready to deal with an array of students with different needs. Their day usually begins
around 8 a.m. where they face the difficult task of waking up their tired students and getting them
ready to learn. They must find interesting ways of presenting the subjects that students often find
tedious (Princeton). Affective teachers use interactive discussion and hands on learning to help
students understand the material (School Teachers).
A teacher s day does not hardly end when the school bell rings. Active teachers are usually involved in
after school meetings, committees, assisting students, grading homework, assignments, and projects,
and calling parents. These tasks all require a certain amount of personal sacrifice (Kizlik).
There have been many changes in education. Even today, the face of education is being changed and
refined. Classes are becoming more and more less structured with students working in their own
groups. The idea is to prepare students to enter the workforce by teaching them the skills to interact
with others, adapt to new technology, and logically think through problems (School Teachers).
Even with the experience of the teacher training programs mentioned earlier, nothing can fully prepare
a person to become a teacher. According to Dr. Bob Kizlik, Each of the roles [a teacher plays] requires
practice and skills that are often not taught in teacher preparation programs. Not all who want to be
teachers should

Differences Between The Indian National Congress And The...
Apart from religious and sectarian tensions between Hindus and Muslims, an ideological difference
between the Indian National Congress and the Muslim League is another key factor which led to the
partition.
Differences between the Muslim League and the Indian national congress can be traced back till The
Indian National Congress founded in 1885. Originally Indian National Congress was founded to
elevate economic changes and to influence the policies of the British rule. Through forming the Indian
National Congress by western educated Hindu aristocrats, gave birth to a lot of resentment and
dissatisfaction among the Indian Muslims. The relationship between Muslim and the Congress saw

The Importance Of Extracurricular Activities
Many students at all levels of education are involved in extracurricular activities they are a core part of
the educational experience. But,are they helpful or harmful to students education. To further look at
this issue my group and I decided to reasearch this topic to find out if there was a correlation between
extracurricular activites and student success. Going into this topic our hypothesis was.If a student
participates in extracurricular activities then the student is more likely to succeed in school.
To gather data we created a survey. This survey included five questions, three strongly agree to strongly
disagree, one yes/no question, and one multiple choice question. We surveyed 44 students both male
and female students grades ninth to eleventh as we felt that in these grades students would be most
involved in extracurricular activities.
The first question on the survey was. Do you participate in extracurricular activities? Which from the
people surveyed was a unanimous yes. This was expected due to the sheer number of people who
participate in extracurricular activities as well as the variety of extracurricular activities.
Question two. How much time a day do you speand participating in extracurricular activites? For this
question in general both males and females from all the grades on average said three to four hours
which was fairly expected as three to four hours is a long amount of time but not long as the other
choice five to six hours or as short as one to two

Essay On Critical Elements Of IDEA
Critical Elements of IDEA
Take a moment and imagine that you are a parent of a disabled child, and as his/her parent, you want
what is best for your child. The same as all parents do. The time has come for your child to begin
his/her education, a bitter sweet movement for most parents, but a milestone, a time to branch out, and
be exposed to a formal education. Now, imagine that you have just been informed that your child is
not allowed to attend public school, due to his/her disability. I know, it seems outrageous and unfair.
However, in the United States prior to 1975, this was not a scenario that parents of disabled children
had to imagine. This was their reality. Not only were this children deprived of admission to public
school, sometimes they were even institutionalized. However, in 1975 Congress would enact laws to
change the education system for children with disabilities. The Education for All Handicapped
Children Act, now known as Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) specified that all children
including those with disabilities formally excluded from school were entitled to a free, appropriate
education (FAPE) (Mastropieri Scruggs, 2018, 3). Now, under IDEA, schools were not only required
by law to provide an education to children living with disabilities, schools were also required to
identify students with disabilities and provide them with special education services if needed.
Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE)
As stated above FAPE is a big

The Battle Of Palo Alto
The Battle of Palo Alto The Battle of Palo Alto was the first major battle of the Mexican American
War. The Mexican Army of the North engaged the United States Army of Occupation on a prairie near
current day Brownsville, Texas. The conflict took place on May 8th, 1846 and was followed the next
by the Battle of Resaca de la Palma, about five miles south. Both battles took place in an area of
disputed ownership and, depending on the side, were on the only battles on American soil. Thousands
of Americans, who changed citizenship and received large tracts of land from the Mexican

In November of 1845, President Polk named Senator James Slidell of Louisiana as the new American
minster to Mexico (Haecker, 1994), and was sent to secretly negotiate with Mexican President Jose

Commander of the Army of the North, who denied negotiation with the Americans and demanded the
return of the disputed area of Texas. During this time, Polk ordered General Zachary Taylor, who was
preemptively stationed at Corpus Christi, to move his unit down to Port Isabel at the mouth of the Rio

which the minority and lower class females could not afford. Margaret Sanger saw first hand the
plight of poor women who were either victims of illegal abortions or locked out of a chance to thrive
due to continuous pregnancies. She wrote, On Saturday nights I have seen groups of from fifty to one
hundred with shawls over their heads outside the office for a five dollar abortion (Rowland 39). As a
result of an illegal abortion, Secretary of State Shelley s mother lay in a pool of blood for days and
nearly died from a perforated uterus (Marinucci A1). For women who were able to obtain abortions
after they were legalized, the threat of severe infections, hemorrhaging and fever from illegal
abortions became virtually extinct. Women were able to find trained professionals and the cost was
considerably less than illegal abortions. Women should not be denied the right to seek the best medical
care possible. For the past quarter of a century Supreme Court Justices have ruled that women have a
constitutional right to abortion. The Courts have rules that contraception and abortion are protected
under the right to privacy or liberty as guaranteed by the 14th Amendment. The 14th Amendment says
that no

The Selma March And The Voting Rights Movement
Around the 1950s, there was a large struggle for African Americans to vote. The main issues were
barriers to voting. Alabama was one example of severe obstacles for voting. Literacy tests were
mandatory for being allowed to vote and often led to discrimination as test proctors would give harder
questions to those they disfavored. Poll taxes meant lower income citizens could not vote. Black
Americans often lived far away from voting centers so restrictions were placed on transportation so
they could not have a chance of voting. These conditions led to a small minority of African Americans
that could actually vote. Demonstrations began by two groups of civil right advocates, Southern
Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and Student Nonviolent ... Show more content on

Social structures, such as the police and government, and representation, such as people who actively
opposed the movement, were contested with success as the result was a big jump for civil rights by the
Voting Rights Act. The march concluded with the ensured ability to vote for African Americans, which
meant justice was achieved. However, while the march overall the Selma March seemed just, there
was disagreement between SNCC and SCLC. Both groups knew that there was injustice being done as
a result of the voting laws in Alabama, but their leaders had a different approach to solving the issue.
SCLC wanted to maintain the idea of peaceful protest while SCLC was more active in their movement
and promoted civil disobedience. While the march was successful in showing the nation needed to
reform its voting legislation, there were many injuries and some deaths associated with the events of
the march. These deaths and injuries were unjust as they were a result of unjust ideologies. To achieve
justice, the SCLC s method of peaceful protest may have been a viable option as opposed to checking
demonstrations and marches which had

The Issue of Compensation and Its Repercussions on Society
A very contentious issue arising within public domain is that of compensation and its repercussions on
overall society. Over the past 3 decades executive compensation has ballooned while the average
worker continues to see only modest gains in income. The average annual earnings of the top 1
percent of wage earners grew 156 percent from 1979 to 2007; for the top 0.1 percent they grew 362
percent (Kaplan, 2012). In contrast, earners in the 90th to 95th percentiles had wage growth of 34
percent, less than a tenth as much as those in the top 0.1 percent tier. Workers in the bottom 90 percent
had the weakest wage growth, at 17 percent from 1979 to 2007. If inflation averaged just 2% a year
over this period, the gains of the bottom 90% would be negative. In 2007, average annual incomes of
the top 1 percent of households were 42 times greater than incomes of the bottom 90 percent, and
incomes of the top 0.1 percent were 220 times greater. This is an increase of 1400% and 4700%
respectively since 1979. These statistics do not bode well for the health care industry which is
currently undergoing immense change. With the healthcare reform currently underway, many changes
will be made to entitlements and overall compensation. Entry level workers in particular will have a
fundamentally different compensation package then prior generations. Due primarily to a combination
of excessive spending, deficit reductions, and an aging population, alterations to compensation will
occur. The extent

Williams Social Errors In Writing
Williams defines social errors as errors ...that violate our personal space. He uses this definition to as a
base to define errors in writing. Williams argues that while handbooks claim many different types of
errors, the only ones that qualify as errors are the ones that make the reader stumble. Writing that is
free from errors should read smoothly. The reader should not be violated mentally by the work. The
reader should be able to understand the work.
Williams wanted to point out that unless the reader is looking for errors, they are not likely to find any.
Williams argues that the only errors we should be concerned with is the ones that hinder
understanding. Errors that cause confusion, or difficulty for the reader. In the real

Treaty Of Versailles Essay
The Versailles treaty was the peace settlement between Germany and the Allied powers that eventually
ended world war one. Even Though it ended this war the treaty of Versailles was hated by many
American and Germany. Germany made many threats to the Allied powers. The passing of the Treaty
of Versailles resulted in unpopular backlash from both Germany and America. France, Italy, Britain
and the U.S. met at the Capitol to talk about the terms of peace for the post war. Germany thought this
was unfair due to the fact they were not able to attend this talk. The Allied powers told Germany to
just sign the treaty and they did not need to know what it was about. Germans refused to sign this
treaty and some talked about going back to war. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These men were, David Lloyd George from the UK, Georges Clemenceau from France, and Woodrow
Wilson from the U.S. These men ignored Germanys complaints they sent back about the Versailles
treaty. These three men were complicated and hard to work work with. According to Chris truman,
David Lloyd George had two view on how Germany should be treated. If George showed any signs of
weakness towards Germany he would have quickly been voted out of office. Hang the Kaiser and
make Germany pay were two very common quotes in the time of the versailles treaty. George was
concerned about communism rising in Russia and had thoughts that it might spread to western Europe.
George felt that Germany was the only thing that could stop communism if it spread into Russia.
Georges Clemenceau says Germany should be brought to its knees so she can never start war again.
The is his only view according to Chris Truman. Woodrow Wilson had been shocked by the
devastation from the Great War. Wilson wanted to leave Europe to its on and to concentrate on U.S.
instead of worrying about everyone else. He wanted to keep all input in and out of Russia to a
minimum. The Treaty of Versailles was a very unfair document towards Germany. According to Mike
Dowling, the treaty had taken away Germany s overseas colonies and their coal source. Germany
could not build large ships and their army was a joke.

The Netherlands Revolt
My paper will discuss several factors that led to the success of the Revolt of the Netherlands which
include; hatred of the Spain monarchy in the Netherlands, failure of King Philip II as a ruler, the union
of the provinces within the Netherlands, the support of foreign allies and Spanish enemies, and Spain s
lack of funds. This revolt was composed of people from all social classes and all of these men were all
driven and motivated by a deep hate of Spain. After Charles V, Philip II became the king of the
Spanish Netherlands. Unlike Charles V, Philip II was not part of the Habsburg Empire, known as the
Netherlands. The people of Netherland considered him a foreigner and he was often portrayed as

Philip II believed in complete sovereign power on his quest to create centralization in the region, so he
chose to exclude the involvement of the high nobility from any polices that the king made or would

what policies it would carry out. The accused him of violating the liberties of the province that he

With his insistence on denying the Dutch their religious freedom and then denying the nobility the
right to have a say in policy matters, he set in motion the start of the revolution. The Netherlands was
a region that had various different provinces; they were not a united front, politically speaking. But
one thing that they did have in common was that they looked upon the noblemen for guidance. The
noblemen were seen as leaders, sometimes even acting as provincial governors, and they usually
provided politically guidance to those in need, apart from dealing with any issues that town people

Smoot Hawley Tariff: A Destructive Contribution
Farmers all through the 1920s had experienced intense competition and declining prices because of
overproduction [;] U.S. agricultural interests lobbied the federal government for protection against
agricultural imports (Britannica 2015). Herbert Hoover had sided with the farmers in raising
Agricultural tariffs that eventually led to his presidency and signing of the act. This Smoot Hawley
Tariff as it was called would increase the cost of imported goods so that U.S. consumers would spend
their money on U.S. products in turn would save U.S. jobs in import competing industries (Suranovic

exports and imports were set to a declining rate. Countless sectors of the economy were hurt, as we
were not selling enough goods in the world market leading many industries like agriculture to
collapse. With the collapse of industries came unemployment leaving many families to struggle to get
through day to day life. Many of the Americans lost their money due to bank failures happening one
after the other. Today we try to practice a more safe approach on trade, which is free trade. The tariff
was an act of Protectionism and it failed to protect what it was meant to protect, hurting farmers and
eventually spreading across the U.S. The Smoot Hawley tariff may have not been necessary but in all

Social Norms In Latin American Culture
Are our cultural and societal norms a result of our evolution or interaction between other cultures?
Abstract:
Word Count:248
The objectification and sexualization of female breasts is implemented in many cultures, including in
the American culture. It has been a common occurrence to see women cover their breasts in public as
a social norm, unless they engaged in a sexual behavior they should not be seen. Even something as
natural as breastfeeding is seen as an act of public indecency. However, this is not the case for other
cultures around the world. Some of the most modest dressing cultures see breastfeeding as completely
natural, while still seeing other parts of the female body as sexual. In this case, why do some cultures
sexualize female breasts and breastfeeding, and others do not? The purpose of this investigation is to
find if human cultural and societal norms are affected by our evolution, or if they are influenced by
our interactions with other cultures around us. For the purpose of this investigation, a chosen culture
from varying continents will be explored on their perspective of the female breast and how each came
to their current perspective. The national bubbles will be the bases for the investigation, as exploring

The Invention Of The Technology
Introduction Brief introduction into the topic In evolutionary terms, advancements in technology are
the utmost fundamental events to have occurred in human history. Rapid growths in technology are
extremely beneficial to our species. These growths include, however, not limited to: the invention of
fire, invention of electricity, invention of cars and planes, and the invention of inter networking (The
Internet). The intention of the simplifying of life lead dramatically reduced the stress on human life. It
enhanced life. The invention of fire opened up gateways to cooking, lighting and creation. The
invention of electricity introduced the invention of the light bulb and batteries. The invention of cars
and planes made traveling easier. Finally, the invention of the internet made retrieving information
more accessible. All these inventions had one common intention. To make life easier, and it
succeeded. Furthermore, exponential growth is expected from the growth and development of this
technology. However, batteries, technology based on an outdated principle that hasn t seen exponential
growth yet. In fact, batteries are limiting the progression of society more than the average person
suspects. According to Moore s law which states that computational intricacy should grow
exponentially every two years, batteries fall behind. Battery technology is estimated to increase by 7%
each year (Rabaey, 2009). In the book, Low Power Design Essentials, it is made evident that battery

Genre Analysis Across Genres
Over many years, genre has become an important role in everyone s life. Scholarly authors such as
Winsor, Pare, Berkenkotter, and Huckin, have noticed this trend and how it is important for people to
understand this concept in order to understand writing. Some of these trends are noticeable in social
groups such as businesses, educational settings, and other discourse communities in which they all
were simplified to a specific standard within their group. These genres will facilitate activities, impact
social relationships, identities, and structure communities. It is important to know that not all
communities will share common genres; in fact, they might vary heavily.
In the field of education, there is a difference between school reports of students and state reports of

Genres have the basic ability to facilitate the activities in which a group or individual partakes in. As
we saw in the state and local reports, they had some similar information such as graphs and charts

also had to be accessible on varying platforms such as paper or computer to take into consideration
those who are not able to get either or. These ideas help shape the education community such as who
they are, and their goals to better students development. It is important for education majors in college
and current educators to understand how this process works so they get the most out of the system. I
know many education classes talk about teacher criteria and what is expected of them. These norms
have been created by state and government officials, and will always play a role in how the education

Rock Candy Crystals
For the year of 2017, the science fair topic chosen is about the growth of rock candy crystals and how
acid interferes with the development of the crystals. For this experiment, 5 ml, 10 ml, 15 ml, and 20
ml of lemon juice will be added to a sugar solution and this is the independent variable. The sizes of
the crystals will be measured in millimeters and the experiment, will help to find, if an acid such as
lemon juice, does affect the diameter of sugar crystals. The hypothesis is if the amount of lemon juice
in the solution increases, then the diameter of the rock candy will decrease because the acid within the
lemon juice will break down the sugars in the sugar water and will stunt the crystallization process.

and accelerate the conversion from sucrose into two monosaccharides, like explained before and
therefore, this can reduce the amount of crystals. (Encyclopædia Britannica

How Shakespeare And Rossetti Engage With The Sonnet
This essay will address how Shakespeare and Rossetti engage with the sonnet form, through Rossetti s
A Sonnet and Shakespeare s Sonnet 52 . Both poets arguably subvert the traditional Petrarchan sonnet
genre, though in different ways. Rossetti s A Sonnet explores the sonnet as an art form rather than as a
means of currency, as sonnets were seen to be at the time, and how if treated as a commodity, the
value of a sonnet is diminished. Similarly, Shakespeare s Sonnet 52 explores the connection between
frequency and worth. However, Sonnet 52 adheres more closely to traditional sonnet form, as the
prevalent theme is romance, and the idealisation of the fair youth . In contrast to Shakespeare s
adherence to the traditional romantic focus of sonnets, Rossetti subverts the genre by using The
Sonnet as a metatextual device to explore his ideas around the form of a sonnet itself.
Rossetti s The Sonnet is written in traditional iambic pentameter and employs the structure of a
Petrarchan sonnet. However, The Sonnet differs from conventions of the genre, as it is arguably a
commentary on the commodification of poetry in the late 19th century. As a predecessor to the
Aesthetic movement, Rossetti valued sonnets as art for art s sake ; the belief that art must separate
itself from serving a didactic or moral purpose in order to be considered culturally valuable, rather
than as a means of generating profit as sonnets were considered at the time. Challenging the

The Underground Man In Feodor Dostoevsky s Notes From The...
I loved to fall into the common rut, and had a whole hearted terror of any kind of eccentricity in
myself. This quote from Notes from the Underground, by Feodor Dostoevsky inspired the theme for
my first paper. While the underground man displayed more of the tragedy of life, Emily Dickinson s
poem showed the beauty behind the tragedy. The underground man and Emily Dickinson have
experienced isolation towards society.
The way that the underground man describes something may come off as rude and sounding very
angry, but Emily Dickinson can describe something so similar to what the underground man says, but
it won t come off as rude, it sounds beautiful instead, even though she may not be describing a
beautiful situation. Then close the Valves of her attention Like Stone from this quote we notice more
isolation and cold hearted references that also relate to the underground man.
The underground man doesn t find that there is beauty in his life, since he has been all alone and no
one has ever treated him nicely or given him attention, possibly because he has never given someone
attention or have treated someone nicely. Dealing with his fragile personality and ego, the
Underground Man will often hate others in return for being hated, which is not the easiest way to
make friends. He thinks he deserves so much, yet he never does anything to deserve attention from
anyone. I could have forgiven blows, but I could not forgive his having moved me without noticing
me. This is

Censorship Definition Essay
A multitude of countries and organizations use censorship for various reasons. However something
they all have in common is the one providing the censored material does not want the reader or viewer
to know something, whether that be the true state of a country or the real history of a matter.
Censorship is a constant tug a war between two sides for the truth over a subject. This form of
restriction can be observed from the early 1900 s to today s modern times, and can also be seen
worldwide in countries that have little to nothing in common. A vast amount of media is not prohibited
in several countries surrounding the globe. In socialist Venezuela, there is current distress surrounding
the content of student textbooks provided by the government. ... Show more content on

For example in 1930 Nazi Germany, Nazis burned Jewish writers works, Jewish artwork, and pretty
much anything else derived from the Jewish culture. A similar event can be seen in Mosul, recently.
The terrorist group ISIS also known as ISIL, has been engaging in book rades and so far have
damaged ¨three [major] libraries: a Sunni Muslim library, the library of the 265 year old Latin Church
and Monastery of the Dominican Fathers, and the Mosul Museum Library¨ (University of Mosul
history professor). In a Newsela interview with Hakim al Zamili, An Iraqi lawmaker, there is a
potential reason suggested for these violent outbursts these terrorist groups are performing. According
to al Zamili, Islamic State group considers culture, civilization and science as their fierce enemies.
When this is taken into consideration it is obvious why the terrorist group has been acting out and
damaging libraries, due to their housing of books that contain such subjects. Overall governments,
organizations, and those in power often times use censorship in order to shelter or hide things from
people. For example, when a parent is just doing what is best for their kid and doesn t just let them do
whatever they want. There is always a reason, often times thought to be protection. However it could
potentially be more, perhaps manipulation? Whatever may be the reason censorship will remain a
vastly used form of restriction that some may just need to learn to

Dr. Farmer traveled to Lima, Peru, to address the MDR TB outbreaks there; they were generally more serious than the ones in Haiti. He continues to contribute to solving the MDR TB issues in Peru by giving an informative speech about the myths of MDR TB. The team of health officials in Peru concluded that a lot more money would be needed to treat the MDR TB patients. The issue was where they would get that money from. Kidder travels alongside of Dr. Farmer to Cuba, to battle additional cases of MDR TB. Kidder has a difficult time moving away from his political perspective of Cuba. Farmer encourages him to focus on the health system, because no matter Cuba s other conditions and reputations, people are still dying from diseases and lack of medical structure. Next, Kidder and Farmer travel to Russia. Farmer addresses the issues of the outbreak of diseases in prisons and receives a grant from the World Bank to supply medicine and extra food to sick prisoners. It is not long after this that the organization that Farmer is most associated with, Partners in Health, receives a grant for 45 million dollars. Research Proposal How Human Resource Policies Influence the Performance of Medium Sized Manufacturing Firms Name: Instructor: Institution: Course: Date: How Human Resource Policies Influence the Performance of Medium Sized Manufacturing Firms 1. Introduction Globalization has created a paradigm shift in the ways by which firms conduct their business. The convergence of world economies has minimized and in some cases eliminated both legislative and geographical barriers to international production and sale of goods and services. The flip side of this process is the increased competition for world markets created especially by the threat of multinational firms to local firms (Garry Litan, 1998). Local firms must find ways to compete and survive the threat of take over and crowding out of the market by multinational producers who enjoy favorable economies of scale. This is effectively achieved by ways of in themselves creating this very economy of scale; expanding business operations helps them lower the marginal cost of production allowing them to therefore provide a favorable pricing policy within the market. In achieving the aforementioned, firms must build up capacity. The attention of managers and researchers alike has been commonly directed towards assets in the sense of physical (fixed and current) and monetary assets (optimal capital structure) of the firm in achieving this objective. Perhaps as an oversight or of limited interest is the aspect of human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Conflicts abound throughout Virgil s epic twelve book poem and they are part and parcel of a story that involves much more than the tragic, yet romantic interlude between Aeneas and Dido. Wars and a man I sing yet many blows he took on land and seas from the gods above and many losses he bore (Virgil, The Aeneid, 981) Virgil seeks to explore beyond mere conflicts that are between two people, such as Aeneas and Dido, and moreover sets out to amplify upon events surrounding the imbroglio that envelops an individual. Aeneas must deal with affairs of the heart juxtaposed against his unswerving sense of duty which binds him to serve the will of the gods above all and at any cost. What I taught them prepared them for continued learning on animal classification and prepared them to start plant classification because the familiarity of classification as a whole. In my lesson I incorporated a phenomenon discussion to get the students to start thinking scientifically by questioning. I used a PowerPoint in order to focus the students attention and to visualize the topic I was discussing. The use of the instructional model impacted student learning through being an important resource for the students. The students had a reference to see how to convey information in written form or how to write expository writings. Having the model allowed the students to be more comfortable with informational writing and to be able to focus on understanding the content. The prewriting graphic organizer was used in order for the students to be able organize their ideas and know what they are writing about before they begin their rough draft. This impacted student learning by helping them produce a better and more thought out writing. My plan was for the students to listen to the book being read and be able to get the majority of the information from my reading, which was also projected on the board. This was not the reality and the students needed the photocopied versions of the book to finish their prewriting. This turned out to better support the learners by having that resource available and the students were then able to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Chapter Of Alpha Omicron Pi Preface: For my subculture, I decided to do the Beta Zeta chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi, also known as AOII, because I became a sister in the fall of 2015. Although I have spent nearly two semesters with the sorority, I still have a lot to learn. Due to my lack of knowledge, there are many assumptions. My first assumption is about the leadership council of Beta Zeta. I presumed the girls in charge of the chapter were elected because of popularity. I also believe the leaders are running for the sake of their resumes. Another preconception I have is that sororities do not promote leadership. As far as bigs go, I considered them as a friend inside the sorority, not a leader, which is another assumption of mine. A big is an older sister in the sorority, who decides to become a mentor to a newer, younger sister. The younger sister is known as a little, and any question she has or guidance she needs is directed towards her big. I would like find the true meaning behind both being an officer on the Leader s Council and a big. I look forward to what my research will find. INTRODUCTION: A series of observations, interviews, peer reviewed articles, and surveys taken as field notes will be the primary sources to my research. The order of the paper will go from the history of AOII to discussing leadership inside AOII, to challenging the idea of bigs being considered a leadership position. To begin my research, I formed some critical guiding questions. My first was based off ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These traits, when accompanied by experience and good techniques, form the foundation for an effective, life altering educator. Their day usually begins around 8 a.m. where they face the difficult task of waking up their tired students and getting them ready to learn. Affective teachers use interactive discussion and hands on learning to help students understand the material (School Teachers). A teacher s day does not hardly end when the school bell rings. Active teachers are usually involved in after school meetings, committees, assisting students, grading homework, assignments, and projects, and calling parents. These tasks all require a certain amount of personal sacrifice (Kizlik). There have been many changes in education. Even today, the face of education is being changed and refined. Classes are becoming more and more less structured with students working in their own groups. The idea is to prepare students to enter the workforce by teaching them the skills to interact with others, adapt to new technology, and logically think through problems (School Teachers). Even with the experience of the teacher training programs mentioned earlier, nothing can fully prepare a person to become a teacher. • 18. Essay On Critical Elements Of IDEA Critical Elements of IDEA Take a moment and imagine that you are a parent of a disabled child, and as his/her parent, you want what is best for your child. The same as all parents do. The time has come for your child to begin his/her education, a bitter sweet movement for most parents, but a milestone, a time to branch out, and be exposed to a formal education. Now, imagine that you have just been informed that your child is not allowed to attend public school, due to his/her disability. I know, it seems outrageous and unfair. However, in the United States prior to 1975, this was not a scenario that parents of disabled children had to imagine. This was their reality. Not only were this children deprived of admission to public school, sometimes they were even institutionalized. However, in 1975 Congress would enact laws to change the education system for children with disabilities. The Mexican Army of the North engaged the United States Army of Occupation on a prairie near current day Brownsville, Texas. The conflict took place on May 8th, 1846 and was followed the next by the Battle of Resaca de la Palma, about five miles south. Both battles took place in an area of disputed ownership and, depending on the side, were on the only battles on American soil. During this time, Polk ordered General Zachary Taylor, who was preemptively stationed at Corpus Christi, to move his unit down to Port Isabel at the mouth of the Rio Grande and Gulf of Mexico. This only increased tensions between the two nations, which came to a height with the construction of the U.S. Fort Texas on the north bank of the Rio Grande, opposite the Mexican town of Matamoros, a natural choke point (Carney, 2005). Up to the War, the American and Mexican armies were about as much the same as they were different. The American force, renamed the U.S. Army of Occupation, was led by General Taylor who had severed in the army since the War of 1812 and was known by his men as Old Rough and Ready. Without legal prohibitions, women in Europe and the United States provided abortions and trained each other to perform the procedures. In the past century different states had begun to outlaw any procedure that would terminate or avoid pregnancy. In 1973(?) the United States Supreme Court asserted a woman s constitutional right to abortion in determining Roe v. Wade. After several decades of quiet disagreement, abortion has once again become a political hotbed. Wealthy women were able to travel to countries and receive professional abortive procedures which the minority and lower class females could not afford. Margaret Sanger saw first hand the plight of poor women who were either victims of illegal abortions or locked out of a chance to thrive due to continuous pregnancies. She wrote, On Saturday nights I have seen groups of from fifty to one hundred with shawls over their heads outside the office for a five dollar abortion (Rowland 39). As a result of an illegal abortion, Secretary of State Shelley s mother lay in a pool of blood for days and nearly died from a perforated uterus (Marinucci A1). For women who were able to obtain abortions after they were legalized, the threat of severe infections, hemorrhaging and fever from illegal abortions became virtually extinct. Women were able to find trained professionals and the cost was considerably less than illegal abortions. Women should not be denied the right to seek the best medical care possible. • 21. The Selma March And The Voting Rights Movement Around the 1950s, there was a large struggle for African Americans to vote. The main issues were barriers to voting. Alabama was one example of severe obstacles for voting. Literacy tests were mandatory for being allowed to vote and often led to discrimination as test proctors would give harder questions to those they disfavored. Poll taxes meant lower income citizens could not vote. Black Americans often lived far away from voting centers so restrictions were placed on transportation so they could not have a chance of voting. However, while the march overall the Selma March seemed just, there was disagreement between SNCC and SCLC. Both groups knew that there was injustice being done as a result of the voting laws in Alabama, but their leaders had a different approach to solving the issue. SCLC wanted to maintain the idea of peaceful protest while SCLC was more active in their movement and promoted civil disobedience. While the march was successful in showing the nation needed to reform its voting legislation, there were many injuries and some deaths associated with the events of the march. Over the past 3 decades executive compensation has ballooned while the average worker continues to see only modest gains in income. The average annual earnings of the top 1 percent of wage earners grew 156 percent from 1979 to 2007; for the top 0.1 percent they grew 362 percent (Kaplan, 2012). In contrast, earners in the 90th to 95th percentiles had wage growth of 34 percent, less than a tenth as much as those in the top 0.1 percent tier. Workers in the bottom 90 percent had the weakest wage growth, at 17 percent from 1979 to 2007. If inflation averaged just 2% a year over this period, the gains of the bottom 90% would be negative. In 2007, average annual incomes of the top 1 percent of households were 42 times greater than incomes of the bottom 90 percent, and incomes of the top 0.1 percent were 220 times greater. This is an increase of 1400% and 4700% respectively since 1979. These statistics do not bode well for the health care industry which is currently undergoing immense change. With the healthcare reform currently underway, many changes will be made to entitlements and overall compensation. Abstract: Word Count:248 The objectification and sexualization of female breasts is implemented in many cultures, including in the American culture. It has been a common occurrence to see women cover their breasts in public as a social norm, unless they engaged in a sexual behavior they should not be seen. • 34. How Shakespeare And Rossetti Engage With The Sonnet This essay will address how Shakespeare and Rossetti engage with the sonnet form, through Rossetti s A Sonnet and Shakespeare s Sonnet 52 . Both poets arguably subvert the traditional Petrarchan sonnet genre, though in different ways. Rossetti s A Sonnet explores the sonnet as an art form rather than as a means of currency, as sonnets were seen to be at the time, and how if treated as a commodity, the value of a sonnet is diminished. Similarly, Shakespeare s Sonnet 52 explores the connection between frequency and worth. However, Sonnet 52 adheres more closely to traditional sonnet form, as the prevalent theme is romance, and the idealisation of the fair youth . In contrast to Shakespeare s adherence to the traditional romantic focus of sonnets, Rossetti subverts the genre by using The Sonnet as a metatextual device to explore his ideas around the form of a sonnet itself. Rossetti s The Sonnet is written in traditional iambic pentameter and employs the structure of a Petrarchan sonnet. However, The Sonnet differs from conventions of the genre, as it is arguably a commentary on the commodification of poetry in the late 19th century. As a predecessor to the Aesthetic movement, Rossetti valued sonnets as art for art s sake ; the belief that art must separate itself from serving a didactic or moral purpose in order to be considered culturally valuable, rather than as a means of generating profit as sonnets were considered at the time.
