Writing A Five Paragraph Essay Made Easy Chico 5Erica Smith
The document discusses the growing gap between energy consumption and energy generation. It notes that while fossil fuels still provide major energy sources, they are unsustainable and contribute to problems like pollution. Alternative energy sources are needed to reduce fossil fuel usage and meet demands in cleaner ways. Thermal energy storage methods, like latent heat storage using phase change materials, can help address this issue by efficiently storing large amounts of energy during off-peak periods for use when needed.

This document provides an overview of wound healing, its functions, stages, mechanisms, factors affecting it, and complications.
A wound is a break in the integrity of the skin or tissues, which may be associated with disruption of the structure and function.
Healing is the body’s response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and functions.
Healing can occur in two ways: Regeneration and Repair
There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.
Complications of wound healing like infection, hyperpigmentation of scar, contractures, and keloid formation.
LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like
Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems

3. A Child s Development On The Early Childhood Classroom Essay
It is clear that play is an intricate part of a child s development. Nearly every milestone a child
accomplishes between the ages of 6 months to 5 years of age, play is how the interpret what they see
and hear, and incorporate everyday adult activities in to imaginative play, to mold and shape the
characters of their personalities. Like Vygotsky theory, Children are practicing what they have learned
in other settings or are constructing new knowledge, it is clear that play has a valuable role in the early
childhood classroom.

who does want to be the center of attention, but also knows when she has done something wrong. She

When asked if she had any brothers or sisters, she said, Yes, but they are my cousins. It was not until
Ms. Liz, the teacher, who overheard my asking Oliva if she had siblings, chime in and say, You have a
brother Olivia, what about Kevin? Oh, yeah I have Kevin as a brother, Olivia replied. She gave me the
impression that because I was not asking about her, she was not interested in talking about her brother.

4. Romeo And Juliet Reading Analysis
Introduction: How d He Do That? Recognizing patterns can make reading easier by helping me
comprehend what it is that I am reading. Memory. Symbol. Pattern. These are the three items that,
more than any other, separate the professional reader from the rest of the crowd. (Foster xxvii). When
I recognize the patterns that the author used when writing, I am able to better understand the structure
of the chapter, the plot of the story, the point of view of all the characters and the language used. A
time when my appreciation for a literary work was enhanced by my understanding of a symbol or
pattern was when I was reading Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare wrote in iambic
pentameter whenever a character of a higher class spoke. It was easier to understand and keep track of
who is who when I understand if what I was reading had a meter or not. It made it easier to decipher
whether the prince was talking or a servant was. Also, recognizing the pattern of Romeo and Juliet
finishing each other s sentences in iambic pentameter made reading that great play a bit easier for me
to understand. Chapter 1: Every Trip Is a Quest (Except When It s Not) The 5 aspects of the QUEST

6. Personal Culture And My Family Culture Essay
While looking upon my personal culture and my family s culture in an attempt to find appropriate
dishes for this assignment, it became apparent to me that I have no definite culture. Whereas I have
lived in Canada my whole life, my family s background has engaged me in varying cultures, though I
have never felt truly attuned to one culture. On the other hand, my father is a first generation
Canadian, his parents both from Scotland. Though aware of my Scottish origins and my grandparents
migration to Canada, Scottish culture has never been explicitly celebrated amongst those in my family.
Furthermore, my family previously migrated from Ireland during the Irish famine, resulting in Irish
culture to also represented in my family s culture. Variously, my mother s side of the family has lived
in Canada for many generations, but I do not consider myself as being authentically Canadian.
Accordingly, throughout my childhood, I was never encouraged to celebrate an explicit culture.
Furthermore, religion was never prominent in my life either, as my parents decided against baptizing
any of my siblings and me, as per the family tradition, because they wished for us to have religious
freedom. However, because of the rest of my family s religion, as well as my background, my family
has always celebrated Christian holidays, though I have never been to church for a reason other than a
wedding. I find that without any cultural ties from my family s history and practices, that the culture I

8. A Summary Of Music Affecting The Music Industry
The music industry has been greatly affected by the rising interest in the internet. People can instantly
listen to songs by a single search, even entire albums. Digital downloading has allowed people to have
constant access to any and all music. Deciding whether it is affecting the music industry positively or
negatively is its own question, but there is absolutely no question that the entire industry is affected.
Most music is available to listen to without necessarily requiring payment. Through websites like
YouTube and SoundCloud, a fairly large amount of music is accessible. Alternatively, some people
simply download the music from different sources. There has been some complaint that downloading
the music from such sources is considered copyright piracy, but not much is done to combat the
illegality of pirating music. Combined with the fact the any given person s music taste can change in

10. Summary Of Daniel James Brown s The Boys In The Boat
I recently read Daniel James Brown s riveting, captivating, and inspiring nonfiction story The Boys in
the Boat. The author s message that was conveyed throughout the book was that triumph can be
achieved against the greatest of odds, and that nothing is impossible when matched with the power of
hard work and persistence. The Boys in the Boat is the story of the rowing crew of the University of
Washington and their incredible journey from a somber beginning in the Great Depression struck city
of Seattle to victory in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The story has a great focus on one specific member
of the team, Joe Rantz, and his own personal struggles, from losing his one and only mother, to being
virtually abandoned and left to live on his own at a very young age. It also shines light on the never
ending adversity the University of Washington crew had to overcome as a whole. Both of these
concepts, along with a lot more, greatly contribute to the powerful message that was conveyed by the
author. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Depression to capture the mood of how hopeless everyone had felt at the time, as well as how hard the

express his message in my opinion, because it showed just how difficult the conditions were for the
boys from a very early stage in the book, and made their eventual success at the Olympics much more
triumphant. By showing where the boys had started in their journey, with hard work to get through the
Great Depression, the author truly emphasized his message that anything can be achieved, no matter

11. Role of Natural Selection and Chance in the Survival of...
Natural Selection and Chance in the Survival of Emperor Penguins
Emperor penguins are majestic creatures; their life cycle portrayed in the film March of the Penguins
shows a lifecycle fraught with dangers, including exposure to extreme environmental conditions and
aggressive predators. Despite the challenges, the breed has survived. It may be argued that survival is
the result of natural selection and the adaptations which have developed, but it is also argued luck
plays a role.
Natural selection occurs when genotypic characteristics which provide better adaption to the
environment, increasing survival chances, reproduce and become increasing frequent within a
population, perpetuating the beneficial characteristics (Beatty, 1984). Chance is luck, or simply being
at the right, (or the wrong), place at the right, (or the wrong), time. Both appear to influence the life of
the penguins.
March of the Penguins starts with the journey to their mating ground across the ice in Antarctica,
starting with a walk of 70 miles. Natural selection starts at this point; many penguins die during the
journey across the ice; only those who survive the journey reproduce. Penguins are not unique,
returning through dangers to specific mating grounds. Other examples include salmon and eels,
showing a general pattern of natural selection.
During mating, penguins choose a single mate each season. Why mates are chosen is unknown, but as
females fight over the males, there may be preferred

Patterns of Vertebrate Evolution and Catastrophes
Catastrophic events, such as mass extinctions, floods, earthquakes, disease, and more recently war, are
all events that have shaped vertebrate evolution through time. In prehistoric times, mass extinctions
have been caused by asteroid and meteor impacts, which can cause serious environmental damage by
ejecting dust and debris (Carpenter and Bishop, 2009). The stress from the impact could trigger
additional earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis, and would further eradicate living species from the globe
following the direct impact of an asteroid or meteor (Carpenter and Bishop, 2009). With recent
research in the Deccan plateau of India following the KPg extinction, the role of volcanism in mass ...

The phenology of vertebrates was greatly altered by the mass extinctions and catastrophes that have
occurred in history and still have an effect on vertebrates today. The main hypothesis for the global
climate change following mass extinctions, particularly the Cretaceous Paleogene (KPg), is black
carbon spread throughout the globe and altered solar radiation to create a system of global cooling
(Kaiho et al., 2016). The cooling of the Earth s temperature created a sudden drop in precipitation and
a 50 60% decrease in sunlight following the impact of the asteroid (Kaiho et al., 2016). Research
shows that following the impact of the KPg extinction precipitation has substantially decreased and
depends on the latitude (Kaiho 2016). The Late Ordovician mass extinction was the first of the Big
Five and can be clearly connected with climate change (Finnegan et al., 2012). The Late Ordovician
mass extinction can be explained by the climactic common cause hypothesis, which states that climate
cooling has a direct influence on extinction rates by forcing tropical taxa to live in climates that did
not match their niche (Finnegan et al., 2012). In a research study done on the effects of climate change
in the Late Ordovician, patterns of thermal tolerance range indicators show cooling and habitat loss as
an important driver

13. Did Christianity Change Over Time
Christianity is far from what many might call a perfect and successful religion. Saying that it has been
completely accepted, unchanged, and resolute since the beginning of the A.D. times would be false.
Events like the murder of Christians within the gladiator games of the Roman Circus and the need to
create the Edict of Milan show this clearly. Not only this but it has changed over time, as shown with
the events of the Iconoclast Controversy between the Roman Orthodox and Catholic churches when

Christianity began with the calling of Abraham and the founding of the Jewish nation. They eventually
found their way to Canaan, remaining there peacefully until the kingdom was split into two. They
soon later fell to the Assyrians. The Assyrians then in turn fall to the Babylonians, who are conquered
by Alexander the Great. They essentially follow Rome through its existence and go into the age of the
Byzantine Empire, the point in which Christians finally had a breakthrough and could start to practice
their religion free of worry about being killed for it. If none of these events were to have happened,
Christianity might not have had a chance to grow or start at all, even and it s massive influence upon
the world would be lost. Prior to the rise of Christians, the world had been a primarily polytheistic
place, and most wanted to keep it that way. This is one of the reasons that Christians faced so much
prosecution in the beginning. That is, until the Edict of Milan is created by Constantine

Whilst visiting Crosby beach in October 2013 there was evidence of the public altering the statues
appearance. Somebody had knitted around the ankle of one, and also placed a hard hat on the head.
The statues being placed at Crosby beach had created a large tourist attraction and we see how the
public introduce their own enjoyment to the art.
With the sculptures being constantly moved to different locations, they were granted permission to be
permanently positioned at Crosby beach in 2005, despite some objections. Certain people believed
that the figures were offensive and pornographic due to them being naked with genitalia on show.
They also believed that they were a safety hazard due to it being difficult to differ between a human
and a sculpture in low lighting. Also, reaching the figures close to the sea was shown as a hazard due
to the sinking mud; a problem which I had encountered myself! The sculptures being made out of Cast
iron is also relevant to them being positioned in Crosby beach. The cast iron links to the Liverpool s
industrial origin as a major port. The figures stand watching as many ships pass each day, as they are
reaching their new destination. The sculptures are possibly standing, waiting to travel to Another

giving the impression of the statues walking into the sea.

17. The Effect Of Monetary Policy On Determination Of Coal Prices
To examine the effect of monetary policy on determination of coal prices in the U.S., we rely on a
dynamic framework of cointegrated vector autoregression (CVAR). The prerequisite requirement for
the application of the CVAR approach is that the selected variables must be nonstationary (i.e., I(1)
series). The presence of a unit root in the variables is thus tested using the Dickey Fuller generalized
least squares (DF GLS) test (Elliott et al., 1996). Panel A of Table 1 reports the results of the DF GLS
test. Since the null hypothesis of a unit root cannot (can) be rejected for any of the levels (first
differences) of the three variables at the 5% level, all the series are found to be nonstationary I(1)
processes.
It should be emphasized, however, that because of inability of the DF GLS to capture the possibility of
a structural break, the power of the test is likely to decrease with an undetected structural break in the
series, thereby providing misleading results. For completeness, therefore, we investigate unit roots in
the presence of a structural break using the Perron Vogelsang (PV) test. The results of the PV test are
summarized in Panel B of Table 1. As seen in the DF GLS test, the null cannot (can) be rejected for all
the levels (first differences) of the variables, confirming that all the three variables are I(1) series.
Hence, it is certain that the underlying series are apparently all I(1) processes even after taking into
account a structural break in the series,

Meiosis and Genetic Diversity in Sordaria 979554296 Biology 110 Lab Introduction: In Israel there
exists multiple spots in the mountains called Evolution Canyons, which are all located between a
southern facing slope (SFS) and a northern facing slope (NFS). What s particularly interesting about
these locations is that despite the two slopes being on opposite sides of a small canyon, they exhibit
extremely contrasting conditions. The SFS receives multiple times the UV radiation from the sun that
the NFS receives, has fluctuating weather, and is generally an arid and less hospitable region
compared to the temperate, stable environment of the NFS. Scientists collected wild type Sordaria

It is believed that Geoffrey Chaucer wrote Troilus and Criseyde in the mid 1830s, a poem about his
character s tragic love story. This poem is considered by many to be one of his greatest works.
It is not known when Geoffrey Chaucer wrote The Legend of Good Women, a poem that was left
unfinished.
Geoffrey Chaucer s work The Canterbury Tales was originally meant to be 120 stories long. It was
only completed to 24 stories, and his characters did not make it to Canterbury at all. The work was
never finished but is highly regarded in literature.
While working as Clerk of the Works Geoffrey was robbed twice, and he eventually gave up his
position to work as the gardener in Somersetshire in the King s park.
Geoffrey Chaucer s major works include Roman de la Rose, The Book of the Duchess, The House of

20. Example Of Exothermic Reaction
An exothermic reaction is one in which there is a release of energy (usually heat) from the system
(Ashworth Little, 2001). In other words, the energy of the system decreases, and thus H is negative.
Because heat is being transferred out of the system (i.e., the reaction requires no external energy
source), exothermic reactions are self sustaining (Ashworth Little, 2001). Notable examples of
exothermic reactions include combustion reactions, where oxygen (O2) reacts with another substance,
usually to form carbon dioxide and water (CO2 + H2O) (Kung Lerner, 2014). Combustion can be seen
in many facets of everyday life, from wood fires to the engines of many vehicles (the combustion of
gasoline has the following chemical equation: 2C8H18 + 25O2 + 2N2 12CO2 + 4CO + 4NO +
18H2O + heat this illustrates the convention of placing heat in a chemical equation, which, if listed as
a product, is an indicator of an exothermic reaction; this equation is also an example of incomplete
combustion, since an ideal combustion reaction would have no products save carbon dioxide and
water; often, the oxygen fueling a combustion reaction is consumed before complete combustion can
occur (Lew, 2015)). On a smaller scale, exothermic reactions can be used to create heating devices
such as hand warmers, which can be calibrated (by analyzing the change in heat of the chemicals
involved in the device) to produce an optimal amount of heat. [SOME MORE] Endothermic reactions,
conversely, are

21. The Intense Debate Over Cloning
Technology has enabled people to realize many things their ancestors would not have even dreamed
of. Cloning is absolutely one of them. Having identical twins without being born on the same they is
like a dream come true. But what is cloning exactly? Cloning ,particularly in biotechnology, is the
process used to create copies of DNA fragment, cells, or organisms. Attempts at cloning might go
back to much earlier times such as the attempt made by Hans Dreisch in the late 1800 s to clone a sea
urchin, but it was not until 1951, when the first successful clone of frog egg was created, that goal was
finally achieved. Still, the world had to wait for another 44 years before the first mammal was cloned.
It was certainly sensational when the first cloned mammal, a sheep named Dolly was born on 5th July
1996. Since it was a milestone in human story, Dolly gained a world wide fame overnight and took its
place in the front pages of many newspapers and even tabloids next to celebrities. However, there is a
painful twist to this otherwise happy story because the death of Dolly at the age of six brought about
an intense debate particularly about the ethical side of cloning and it has been a controversial issue
ever since. Despite of all the debate it has caused among

Deficiency and Sufficiency of Critical Factors Greatly affect Attrition and leverage Retention (in IT

Abstract
The IT/ITES sector is the backbone of Indian economy. It earns lot of foreign income to boost the
Indian economy. Even in the economic turmoil over the globe, particularly in developed countries,
though this sector had little affected, could come out successfully managing the entire economic
imbroglio. High attrition in the IT/ITES industry has always been its greatest concern and a subject of
much analysis and debate. Organizations use different methodologies for calculating their attrition
rate. HR experts feel that it is a know factor that attrition calculation is gray area which does not
always depict the true picture while a few techniques are common there are no proven theories yet.
Further, the approach to this calculation might vary from organization to organization. The Tamil
Nadu, Particularly, Chennai is considered to be one of the biggest IT hubs in India having presence of
very big IT companies. The availability of skilled employees with cheap labour cost in Tamil Nadu is
an important reason. AT the same time the rate of attrition are also felt in these companies. Presently,
Tier II cities like Madurai, and Coimbatore were taken place in the IT map. The employee retention is
also felt in the IT companies situated in Madurai also. In this context, the researchers, attempted to

One important characteristic of the Settlement House Movement is that they wanted to reform existing
social policy and offer services that would help the poor to shake the bonds of poverty and enjoy a
better quality of life. Thus, settlement workers saw the need for a dramatic change in social, health and
reactional services that were offered in slum areas in the large cities (Heinonen and Spearman, 2010,
p. 15). Moreover, the settlement house workers believed that problems people faced were due to
deficiencies of the social structure; not due to character flaw (Course Lecture Notes, PowerPoint
Chapter 2). Contrary to the Settlement House Movement was the Charity Organization Society. The
settlement house movement went against the beliefs of the Charity Organization Society because they
believed that charity was a form of social control.

sports. Armstrong s guilty verdict exemplifies the efforts to punish athletes using performance
enhancing drugs. The increase in anti doping efforts is evident.
In the middle of the 20th century, a troublesome problem arose in the sports world: doping. In the
1960s, the first evidence that athletes were using performance enhancing drugs surfaced (Catlin, Fitch,
and Ljungqvist 104). Even though significant evidence prevailed that athletes used the drugs to
increase their athletic performance, there was no way to detect drug use. People did not know what to
think of the problem, but when a cyclist died at the 1960 Olympic Games from doping, sports
organizations started to take action (Catlin, Fitch, and Ljungqvist 100). Scientists went to work
looking for a way to detect performance enhancing drugs in athletes. It took several years before any
reliable drug testing methods came about. During the Fédération Internationale de Football
Association (FIFA) World Cup in 1966, the first drug test was performed (Hanstad, Smith, and

sports. Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and the

Proteus mirabilis:
I. Introduction:
Proteus mirabilis is a Gram negative, dimorphic bacillus and a facultative anaerobe bacterium. It is a
motile member of the family Enterobacteriaceae. This bacteria colonies shows a unique characteristic
called swarming behavior. Swarming occurs when the flagellate rods grow into long chain swarmer
cells, the swarmers gather together forming rafts that swim together, growing into a complex biofilm.
P. mirabilis virulence factors include swarming motility and urease production. Ref: Joan L, John F.

Diseases:
Statistically, about 90% of the proteus infections are caused by proteus mirabilis. It is an opportunist
pathogen, which means it can cause diseases if it colonizes another place other than the
gastrointestinal tract.
P. mirabilis is commonly associated with urinary tract infections. The infection begins when the
organism moves from urethra to the urinary bladder. Urinary tract infections caused by P. mirabilis are
mostly found in patients under long term catherization. Other groups of patients that are at high risks
of the diseases include; those patients with structural abnormalities of the urinary tract, patients with
recurrent infections and patients whose infections were acquired in the hospital or long term care
facilities.
Proteus mirabilis infections accounts for 1% 2% of urinary tract infections in healthy women, 5% of
nosocomial urinary infections and catheterization has a high prevalence of 20% 45%. The organism
causes bladder infection and kidney infection. P. mirabilis produces large amounts of urease which
splits urea into carbon dioxide and ammonia. This process increases the alkalinity of the urine and also
it precipitates magnesium and calcium in the form of struvite and apatite crystals respectively. The
results is the formation of renal stones.

According to OSHA website, in 1970, Congress created the Occupational Safety and Health Act to
assure safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women by setting and enforcing

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as part of the United States Department of
Labor, headed by the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health, who answers
to the Secretary of Labor, a member of the cabinet of the President of the United States.
OSHA s purpose is to administer the act and to set and enforce the safety and health standards that
apply to almost all workers in the United States. To do this, OSHA promulgated legally enforceable
standards known formally as Hazard Communications covering just about every conceivable hazard in

of the stanzas create a visual and formal precision. Each stanza tells of the events in a chronological

29. Animal Welfare Campaign Should Be Banned
Every year, over billions of innocent animals, are dying, poisoned, and killed as a result of million
experiments that are tested on them. These new experiments are not hundred percent guaranteed.
However, these experiences may work with animals and give positive results, but when it tests back
on the human, it gives the opposite results. The animal welfare campaign finds that testing new
products on animals is an inhuman and a cruel thing and it should be stopped. So, they start making
attacks around the world telling people how these experiments are dangerous and harmful to the
animals and show them how these animals suffer when it affects them negatively. As a result of these
campaigns, a significant number of people stopped buying products that are tested on animals such as
makeup, face masks, lotions, and various kinds of medicines. Likewise, there are many kinds of food
are tested on animals. Therefore, many people decided to become vegetarians. Consequently, testing
new food, medical, and beauty products on animals is unnecessary due to the differences between
animals and human genes, the harmful effects on animals, and the alternative methods for testing new
products that take the place of animals.
Human beings and animals are very different creatures from each other which lead to poor results in
these tests. To clarify, the metabolic, cellular, and the genes in animals are not the same in human
beings which make the animals poor models for the human. Moreover,

Since the ancient mesopotamian civilizations sculptures have played a crucial role in society and

Ultimately, the Greeks achieved mastery of human anatomy and proportion. After the Greek
civilization came the Roman Empire. The Romans captured the essence of the Greek style and added
their own personal flair to the sculpture. Though, their sculptures mostly mimicked the Greeks it also
provided a unique historical record and a deeper perspective of the ancient rulers of the time and
Roman dictator Julius Caesar is no exception. Many busts were sculpted of Julius Caesar throughout
his lifetime and after his reign. These busts ranged from materials such as bronze, marble, terracotta,
and most distinctly green schist. The green schist bust of Julius Caesar is a 16 inch sculpture sculpted
after his death. The bust was created with the many ideals of proportion and realism established by the
Greeks, that were later adopted by the Romans. This sculpture chooses to throw away the classical
style of idealism and takes on a defining sense of precise realism. Gloria states that these busts are,

31. John Ross And Mill s Utilitarianism And Ross Essay
Introduction:
Mill s Utilitarianism and Ross Intuitionalism both use moral intuitions as core components of their
moral theories, though their valuation of these intuition in making morally sound decisions differ. I
will argue that it is this mis valuation of moral intuition in Utilitarian tradition that makes the moral
theory unstable and prone to criticism. Ross deontological approach to moral intuitions provides a
more believable, and morally acceptable account of the role these intuitions play in making ethical
decisions. In this paper I will begin with underlying both Ross and Mill s valuation of moral intuitions
in the framework of their moral theories, followed by a brief explanation of each philosophers view of
what makes an act moral . Having established these I will, with the aid of an anecdote about a child
and a sled, describe my difficulties with Mill s utilitarian approach to ethics. Finishing with an
assessment of some utilitarian complaints about Ross theory. Ultimately Utilitarianism provides a
commendable theory for widely applicable and practical moral action, but it s inability to address
conflicts with strong moral intuitions weakens it s argument leading me to favor that of Ross more
flexible, yet not relativistic, intuitionalism.
i) The Value of Moral Intuitions:
Both Ross and Mill recognize the existence of what one might call a prima facie duty ( or virtue), this
being an action that is intuitively deemed morally right

How can where you live influence your health and wellbeing?
In this assignment I will attempt to explain how a persons health and wellbeing can be both negatively
and positively impacted on depending on where they live.
UK society is distinguished by health inequalities, they are the unfair and avoidable differences in
peoples health across social groups and different population groups due to social, biological and
geographical factors which usually result in people who are worse of financially encountering poor
health and shorter lifespans.
According to Labontes Model of health and wellbeing (p53 health and wellbeing in neighbourhood)
we are shown how health can be broken down into three main factors, physical, mental and social and
each area overlaps to make complete health.
There are many examples how the neighbourhood you live in can affect your health and wellbeing. To
maintain good physical. Social and mental health we need the following resources. Good
transportation route to local hospitals, nearby parks and walking trails, health shops, more education
and employment opportunities, appropriate housing, more spaces for people to recreate and relax in
like cafes and public plazas, local gyms, outdoor activities and better sewage and drainage. Alternately
