The Importance Of Censorship In Literature
According to author Mette Newth, forms of censorship can be traced back to as early as 399 BC when
officials sentenced Socrates to drink poison as a punishment for his corruption of youth and his
acknowledgement of unorthodox divinities. From this point, Newth goes on to note that uncensored
free speech was a challenge for early religious figures. As the leaders watched seemingly dangerous
ideas pour into their once pure world through literature and verbal stories, censorship became more
rigid, and punishment more severe. However, regardless of the efforts put forth, these leaders could
not hold back the changes to come, and the world progressed. Attempts to censor the words put into
the world eventually spread from primarily religious leaders, the government, and even to citizens
with no authority whatsoever. Over time, censorship has increased to some degree in terms of
literature, but the people should not have to tolerate any form of censorship. Regardless of any reason
for it, censorship, specifically book banning, proves itself unnecessary and the decision of what art or
information anybody intakes should remain up to the consumer themselves. When censorship began,
literature suffered all of the initial impact. As printing technology advanced and leaders lost complete
control over what information people omitted into the world, Newth states that the printed book
[b]ecame a religious battleground. However, the censorship of book quickly went far past

Chin The Largest Economy
At present, China is the largest economy in the world, overtaking the US in January 2015. It is also the
world s second largest oil consumer behind the US (Chen 2015) and the world s largest net importer of
crude oil (Dunn 2014). Its net importer status was driven by steady economic growth, with rapidly
rising Chinese petroleum demand outpacing production growth (EIA 2014). China is also the fourth
largest oil producing country in the world (Refer to Appendix ___).
The growth in the developing nation s economy over the past 3 decades was heavily dependent on its
low cost advantage compared to those of other countries. During this period of growth, foreign
companies flocked to China to set up production facilities and factories to capitalize on this cost
advantage. Raw materials are shipped to China, where factory workers build the final products and
export them out to various countries (Wassener 2014).
However, recently, china s economy has experienced a significant slowdown due to the shift in growth
of the nation to rely more on private enterprise and domestic consumption. This shift in economy
reduces its demand for industrial raw materials for manufacturing, which translates to a decrease in
demand of oil for use in production plants. A survey of China s industrial heartland identified
decreases in key areas of new orders, export orders and output prices (Letts 2015). Furthermore, being
the world s second largest consumer of oil, this move that China makes will have

City Of Ember Book Vs Movie Essay
Humanity s Back Up City What if humanity did not have the sun, the moon, and a steady supply of
electricity? In The City of Ember, Jeanne DuPrau writes about a city that lives underground, only they
don t know that they live underground. The citizens of Ember have never heard of the sun, the moon,
stars, plants, or animals. But if they don t have the sun or moon, how do they see anything? Ember has
an ancient generator in tunnels running under the city the Pipeworks. This generator supplies
electricity to all of the light bulbs that give light to Ember. Ember has a large stock of food and light
bulbs to last them awhile 220 years to be exact. After 220 years they would all escape because the
mayors of the city have a secret box with instructions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Well, the differences between the book and movie range from small, nitpicky details to important
aspects of the book. For one, on assignment day everyone who got a job was supposed to be twelve,
but in the movie Doon was seventeen and there were little five year olds running around with jobs.
Also another age related fault in the movie was when they made Looper look like he was forty, not
fifteen, and dating Lizzie. Besides age, the movie also cut out important scenes to show just how
severe the power outages and supply scarcities were, such as the part when Lina was buying color
pencils and Poppy got lost during a blackout. The movie also made Ember look like it had more
futuristic things than it should have had. In movie Ember, Pipeworks laborers had hats with lights on
them that could connect to electricity, but no movable light source was found in the books. Instead of
having a complicated lock on the box with the instructions, the box looked computerized. As a
replacement for a supply room, the movie had conveniently lockers that could transform into boats. It
had bugs and parasites, such as the octo rat thing, hiding around corners that could not be found in the
book. With all those differences, it only makes sense the book fans are

Should Craig Venter Use Yeast To Create Synthetic Life
The concept of synthetic life is to create a new type of living cell out of synthetic DNA. Craig Venter
and other scientists wanted to find a way to understand how life form on Earth. They were answering
the question; can mankind create lifeforms? Craig Venter did answer this question by eventually using
yeast to perform a transplant to make a new type of cell. In my opinion, Craig Venter should not
attempt to create synthetic life because I think it is playing God and ultimately messing with the
balance of nature. Abiotic synthesis proves that life was made out of inorganic precursors like energy
from lighting or UV radiation. I am such a strong believer in letting mother nature take care of itself
and because of that I would not trust the creation of synthetic life. I also think messing with synthetic
life would make more problems for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can even be the source of new man made diseases which actually defeats the purpose of creating
synthetic life. Other that are for synthetic life would say that this advancement would be benefit
science and life as we know it. It could make life cleaner and better by helping to fight climate change
and pollution . Some could even argue that having the knowledge to create synthetic life was God
giving us permission to go ahead and use synthetic life every day. There are many consequences for
creating synthetic life and because of that I really feel like it is something we as humans need to think
deeply about. A positive consequence/reward would be that creating synthetic life would boost our
economy and help in the medical field. However, a really bad outcome could be that this innovation
could be misused and cause another problem. It could be a disease or just a new battle between nations
to create the best synthetic biohazard bacteria or virus, eventually wiping out the human race. My
example may seem too extreme, but it could

The Curse And The Doom Of The New World
Introduction 1. Fuku means a curse or a doom of some kind; specifically the Curse and the Doom of
the New World (Diaz, 1). The significance fuku had in the Dominican history and beliefs were that the
name was placed on the people that did harm to the Dominican Republic. For example, The Admiral s
very name has become synonymous with both kinds of fuku, little and large; to say his name aloud or
even to hear it is to invite calamity on the heads of you and yours (Diaz, 1). Also, the dictator Trujillo
was considered a powerful fuku, if anyone would have utter his name in vain one would have been
kick out of sea. Fuku is believed to have been unleashed by the arrival of Europeans on Hispaniola. 2.
I think Diaz chose to convey historical facts and anecdotes in footnote form for the fact that Diaz may
assume one may know something. But just in case someone does not know it he included a brief
description. For example, when Diaz mentions the dictator Trujillo and if I don t know anything of
him, I can just look at the footnote for brief description of him. Also, I think Diaz chose this method
for the people who want to learn more about the person or thing. 3. I think the purpose of Diaz writing
this book is related to fuku. This is because the introduction is based on the word fuku and different
ways fuku is portrayed in history. Also, on the line, As I m sure you ve guessed by now, I have a fuku
story too (Diaz, 6). The line illustrates that Diaz might write a personal

Educating Students For A Global Society
The twenty first century seemed light years away when I was in high school. It feels like we blinked
and suddenly we have arrived. With the dawn of this new century, the face of education is changing.
We have to prepare students for a global society. Our test scores show that American education reform
is not just a want but also a necessity. The diverse communities within our classrooms have forced us
to reevaluate best practices to meet the needs of our students. Collaborative teaching is one way to
meet the needs of students of all skill levels. Co teaching allows for differentiated instruction that will
meet the needs of ELL students, students of low income families, students with identified learning
disabilities, etc. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instructional collaborative activities allow teachers to align teaching objectives, materials, learning
strategies, and assessment so that students can be supported academically in a cohesive manner. Team
teaching provides all students access to the general education curriculum and general education. All
students need to have access to the mainstream curriculum and assistance through teaching and
learning strategies that make concepts understandable. When teachers plan together, they can ensure
that the needs of all lessons are presented in a way that will reach students. Today s classrooms have
many different challenges, and working with a colleague to meet those challenges is far superior to
working in isolation, as teachers frequently do (Dove). Planning together is key to ensuring that all
students will have access to the curriculum. That old saying, two heads are better than one rings true
in collaborative teaching. Teachers will learn from each other s expertise and expand the scope of their
teaching capacity (Ferry, 2013). When teachers come together to provide instruction, they have the
opportunity to observe good teaching practices. Teachers are often very isolated. They don t get the
opportunity to see other good teachers in action. It is difficult to learn new teaching practices when
you are never allowed to observe other classrooms. Team teaching allows us to be able to learn from
each other as we progress through

resulted in lack of structure and consistency throughout the whole chain stores, as you gave each store

Using Sip Procedures For Food Deprived Sprague Dawley Rats
Using SIP procedures in moderately food deprived Sprague Dawley rats, we found that adolescent
males and females provided with scheduled delivery of banana pellets willingly drank notable
amounts of 10% ethanol in a palatable solution (Boost®) in short, 30 minute daily access sessions
between the ages of P28 to P41. By collecting blood samples twice during the fourteen days of access,
we established that this intake was often sufficient to raise BECs into the binge range ( 80mg/dl).
Intake of individual animals was observed to occur in a binge like pattern over days, typically
characterized by a high consumption day followed by 1 2 days of drastically lower intake, cycling
repeatedly. Such binge like patterns were less evident in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

1b). This finding is inconsistent with prior literature, showing that SIP can be established with water
only (Falk, 1961). Furthermore, in Experiment 2 where scheduled delivery was abolished, with
animals receiving mass presentation of pellets at the onset of the intake session, high consumption
levels were nevertheless maintained. It is possible that the lack of schedule dependency per se may
have been associated with limitations in the number of test days due to the time constraints of
adolescence. Indeed, SIP with an ethanol solution is typically established in adult rats over a period of
many weeks in the operant chambers, during which the concentration of ethanol is gradually raised
(Falk et al., 1972). In preliminary work, we established the 14 day (P28 41) intake period, noting that
consumptions declined notably as animals transitioned out of the early mid adolescent period, an
ontogenetic time course similar to what we have observed in home cage consumption studies (Vetter
O Hagen et al., 2009).
In Experiment 1b, animals given access to Boost® without ethanol consumed on average more than
twice as much fluid (ml/kg) per intake session than their ethanol drinking counterparts in Experiment
1a. This is likely to be due to the high palatability of chocolate Boost ® for adolescent rats, which is
diminished by the combination of the bitter/sweet taste properties of

Waucoba Wash Quadrangle
Geologic History of Waucoba Wash Quadrangle, California
The Waucoba Wash Quadrangle, California cross section begins with the deposition of the Cambrian
layers such as the Campito Formation, Poleta Formation (upper and middle members and undivided),
Harkless Formation, Saline Valley Formation (lower and upper members), Mule Spring Limestone,
Monola Formation (lower and upper members), and the Bonanaza King dolomite (dominantly
limestone and undivided). These Cambrian rocks are followed by rock layers from the Devonian
period, thus meaning that an unconformity occurred between the layers. The Devonian dolomite rock
layers include the Hidden Valley dolomite and the Lost Burro Formation (cherty dolomite). These are
followed by the Mississippian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the major things noticeable from the cross section is that quite a few of the rock layers are over
turned, where the older rock layers are above the newer rock layers. This is seen in the contact
between the Quartz Monzonite of Papoose Flat and the Campito Formation which is also a
disconformity. Next there is some fault zones separating the Camptio, Poleta, and Harkless
formations. We then see some more overturned layers with the contacts between Saline Spring Valley
Formation (lower and upper members) above the Mule Spring Formation along with some inferred
folding. With a normal fault separating the inferred folding event, we see where the overturning
occurs. In between the Cambrian layers we see Tertiary Basalt nonconformities also being folded, thus
with that we know that the folding event was more recent than the formation of the Basalt. Next there
is a large Basalt field with a spot of the Harkless formation. Again we see over tuning as the Basalt
field ends there are the Devonian and Mississippian rock Layers on top of the basalt. Separating these
overturned layers from the Harkless Formation and the Saline valley Formation (upper member),
which are not overturned, is a thrust fault. From this information, there was a major stress event
sometime after the Tertiary period causing the rock layers to fold and overturn. And from this stress
event and from the folding, normal and thrust faults are formed. Finally we see that there were alluvial
and landslide deposits from the Quaternary after the folding, faulting, and over

If a company s current ratio is in this range, then it is generally considered to have good short term
financial strength. If current liabilities exceed current assets (the current ratio is below 1), then the
company may have problems meeting its short term obligations. If the current ratio is too high, then
the company may not be efficiently using its current assets or its short term financing facilities. This
may also indicate problems in working capital management.
Low values for the current or quick ratios (values less than 1) indicate that a firm may have difficulty
meeting current obligations. Low values, however, do not indicate a critical problem. If an
organization has good long term prospects, it may be able to borrow against those prospects to meet
current obligations. Some types of businesses usually operate with a current ratio less than one. For
example, if inventory turns over much more rapidly than the accounts payable become due, then the
current ratio will be less than one. This can allow a firm to operate with a low current ratio.
If all other things were equal, a creditor, who is expecting to be paid in the next 12 months, would
consider a high current ratio to be better than a low current ratio, because a high current ratio means
that the company is more likely to meet its liabilities which fall due in the next 12 months.
If the business s current ratio is too low, it may be raised by: * Paying

Loss Of Happiness In The Tin Flute, By Gabrielle Roy
When people have a chance at being happy they throw everything they have into that opportunity
because they do not want it to pass by them and live the rest of their life wondering what if. That is
what Florentine was battling with in The Tin Flute. She does not know if she should follow Jean and
see the movie with him or let him pass her by. Florentine is almost afraid to say no because she wants
this chance at happiness. In The Tin Flute by Gabrielle Roy the reader should learn that people can
throw everything they have into a chance at happiness because they are afraid of what may happen if
they let it pass.
Florentine is torn between whether or not to go with Jean Lévesque and leave her current life behind.
While working at her job in a diner she is approached by a man who wants to take her out and
Florentine is not sure if she should follow him or let him leave. After taking a rest from her job and
thinking about her life and what she might become she decides that she must immediately stake

Prison Reform Case Study
Institutional Context
The United States has reached a state of emergency in dealing with the opioid crisis. Change needs to
occur by decriminalizing all drugs. Decriminalization would look like reducing prison time as well as
expunging the criminal record of a minimal offender, the money that was previously used on jail
would now be used on rehabilitation. This hopeful policy will be brought to the institutional level of
the state, also known as the state legislature. The policy would be important to bring to this level
because the state has the power to reduce jail time for drug crimes, as well as change drug felonies to
misdemeanors*. A recent example of this state power has been seen in Oregon. Starting in July 2017
the state reduced jail ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bringing this policy to a state legislature, the biggest actor would be a state senator who represents
large districts that have high drug prevalence. As a resident of the State of Massachusetts, the greater
Lowell area has a high drug problem*. Lowell is represented by Democrat State Senator Eileen
Donoghue*. Another key actor would be the support of residents in Lowell MA; Lowell has 11 rehab
facilities in the city*. Many members of the community who are aware of the opioid crisis are hoping
to change the way Lowell is perceived*. The influence of both citizens and Senator Donoghue would
help set decriminalization up to succeed in the community. Based on research Senator Donoghue will
prefer the policy on complete drug decriminalization. Donoghue will prefer this policy because she
has signed on bills and made active contributions towards a criminal reform*. Her recent bill to reform
criminal justice aligns similarly to what the new policy has suggested; with votes coming up soon,
Senator Donoghue may be looking for something to win voters over. The status quo would mean
limited policy reform, leaving the greater Lowell area with similar drug problems, and citizens

levels of differentiation of self, and contact with family members. However, problems occur when
there are underlying problems of emotional fusion passed from generation to generation and the

George Washington Carver
George Washington Carver was born in Diamond Grove, Missouri during the spring of 1864 or 1865.
Like many slaves, he was uncertain of his birth date. His mother, Mary, was a slave who belonged to
Moses and Susan Carver. As an infant, slave raiders kidnapped his mother. The childless carvers
reared George and his older brother, James.
Growing up, George was captivated by plants. Many neighbors referred to him as the Plant Doctor .
Since Carver was an African American, he was not accepted at any local schools, therefore he had to
attend school eight miles away from home. He did very well in school. In 1885 he was accepted to

As well as creating the Farmers Institute, Carver also helped the farmers of Alabama and the southern
states a great deal. An insect called the boll weevil became an enormous threat to the cotton fields of
southern United States. Carver recommended to these farmers that they should substitute their cotton
crops with sweet potatoes and, the more successful recommendation, peanuts. This switch would
provide farmers another source of income and would also help to prevent the spread of the insect. The
one problem with this solution was that no one knew what to do with all the peanut crops. Carver was
quoted as saying: we can learn to synthesize materials for every human need from the things that
grow. So that is what he did. In total, Carver was able to create close to three hundred different
products from the peanut plant. These wide variety of products include dyes, ink, insulation,
cosmetics, stock feed, medicines, glue, soap, and peanut milk. Although most of his products never
became commercially sold, Carver became widely known as the Peanut Man . He also created nearly
one hundred uses for the sweet potato crops.
Even though George Washington Carver was well known throughout parts of the south, his real rise to
fame started in 1916. Carver was invited to join the Royal Society for the Arts. Shortly afterward, the
Carver Products Company was founded to market his many products. Carver was also honored with

The purpose of Goal setting is to operationally define the specific desired outcomes and describe the
factors involved in achieving the outcome (Julia Bowman and Lise. L. Mogensen, 2010, p.100). Goals
can be split up into two different types. A Short term goal is the pathway leading up to the long term
goal (Julia Bowman and Lise. L. Mogensen, 2010, p.100). Long term goals have been described as the
destination of therapy (Julia Bowman and Lise. L. Mogensen, 2010, p.100). For therapists the long
term goal is how far the client wants to improve; if it is being fully independent, being able to do the
cleaning, the long term goal would be set to get them to that place. However, if the client is not
reaching their goals, this is when grading comes to place. Grading is the modification of an activity to
support the client s performance (Bridgett,2011, OT A Z: G is for Grading). Grading is all about
adjusting the goal to make it easier or harder for the client. If the client was about to do their goal very
quickly you would change their goal to make it harder for them; thus they can work towards a new
goal. The occupation performance model looks at what makes the person be able to do or not do the
task. With this the therapist will write down what is preventing the client from reaching their

Freedom Of Speech About New York City
From the time one sets foot in New York City everything feels different, the atmosphere, the people,
and the scenery. New York is a whole other world set apart from the real world. It is seen as the place
to be in order to conquer dreams. It is the epitome of the American dream and what America stands for
as a country. It is the place where one goes to make it big. It is a symbol of freedom, history, and
entertainment. While I was in New York I gained an insight into just how free and beautiful our
country really is. It truly changes a person and their appreciation for society. Americans often take
freedom for granted. In this country, we have the freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom
of the press, just to name a few. In some

Digital Technology And Its Effects On The World
Since the 1990 s the world has experienced vast improvements in technology and what seems as an
endless expansion of the Internet, and as a result, laws and legislation have had to evolve was well.
Technologists and policymakers exist in two worlds, two cultures when it comes to viewing a problem
and developing a solution. Nevertheless, technologist and policymakers have been up against some
very complex issues such as how to control piracy of copyrighted digital media. However, copyright
owners have sought out legal means to protect their intellectual assets. In recent years copyright laws
have been in effect to strike a balance between protecting the rights of authors, artist and copyright
owners, and according to the U.S. Constitution, to promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts.
Digital technology, unlike analog technology that preceded it, can make large copies in real time
without the degradation in quality. However, as a response to these capabilities of digital technology,
policymakers had to create a system of digital rights management (DRM) and other technical
deterrents where digital content owners could exert control over media usage. In response to these
complex issues, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) of 1998 was passed. Digital Rights
Management (DRM) is a systematic method of controlling access to copyrighted material. The
purpose of DRM is to prevent the unauthorized redistribution of copyrighted digital content, in other

Louis Comfort Tiffany: A pioneer for color and light
Louis Comfort Tiffany is widely recognized as son of Tiffany Co. founder Charles Tiffany. Although
his father was one of the leading jewelry makers in the mid 1800 s, Tiffany shaped his own path and
eventually became one of the most renowned glassmakers of his time.
Born in February of 1848 to Charles and Harriet Tiffany, Louis spent his early life in New York City
pursuing a career as an artist, studying under George Inness and Samuel Colman. According to the
Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica (1998), Tiffany left New York City in 1868 to travel the world,
painting under Leon Charles Adrienne Bailly in Paris, France. After having ... Show more content on

Tiffany soon retired in 1919 and years later his company declared bankruptcy. ( Louis Tiffany, 2014).
Preceding retirement, Tiffany founded an art school at Laurelton Hall. According to The Life of Louis
Comfort Tiffany (para. 8), his goal was to steer artists towards a different path, away from the
contemporary movements that young artists were experimenting with, on such as modernism. Louis
Comfort Tiffany passed away on January 17, 1933.
Tiffany will endlessly be remembered as the individual who changed the art of glassmaking.
Revolutionizing the production of stained glass windows and luminaires, he was experimented with
adding color and texture, as well as using imperfect glass for his pieces. ( Louis Comfort Tiffany,
2016). Taking over the Art Nouveau era and pioneering the [push of] artistic boundaries, it is
justifiable that Louis Tiffany is one of greatest artists of his time, and perhaps of all time. (Daniels,

Math Vectors
MIchael Driesen Mrs. Rozell Math 10H 17 December 2011 Vectors Math is everywhere. No matter
which way you look at it, it s there. It is especially present in science. Most people don t notice it, they
have to look closer to find out what it is really made of. A component in math that is very prominent in
science is the vector. What is a vector? A vector is a geometric object that has both a magnitude and a
direction. A good example of a vector is wind. 30 MPH north. It has both magnitude,(in this case
speed) and direction. Vectors have specific properties that make them very useful in real life
applications. Through the use of these special objects, many advancements in the fields of math and
science are available. Representations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The equation for the cross product is: . It can also be written as: The easiest way of finding the cross
product is by setting the coordinates up in a 3x3 matrix. A matrix is a way of organizing data. Using i,
j, and k as place holders and using the same two vectors from before, the matrix would look like this:
Now, in order to get the new vector, the determinant has to be found. The work for the determinant is
below: The final vector is a vector that is orthogonal to the other two. This is a good representation of
what it would look like: The cross product is necessary to find the amount of torque or work needed or
used. Other Vectors Null Vector: The null vector is a vector that has the length (magnitude) of 0. It is
written as (0,0,0) and if c is a null vector and a is a normal one, c+a=a. Unit Vector: This vector is
more about direction than magnitude. The unit vector has a magnitude of one, always. Turning a
vector into its unit vector is easy. Just divide the vector by its magnitude. This is called the
normalization of a vector. Adding Vectors Adding vectors is very easy. All that is needed is a
knowledge of trigonometry. Specifically, the law of cosines and the law of sines. To add two vectors,
simply stick them head to tail, and

Essay on Offshore Drilling
Offshore Drilling
What is it?
Drilling for oil in the ocean is one of the greatest technological breakthroughs in recent decades, and
many new techniques have been developed to profit from the abundance of oil underneath the ocean
floor. While drilling for oil has been around for hundreds of years in one form or the another, the
effective extraction of petroleum from beneath the sea floor did not surface until the last forty years.
The search for oil often turns out to be unproductive, but this practice is vital for the economic future
of many nations.
In order for any drilling to take place, an offshore drilling rig must first be installed. These offshore
platforms can be situated in water up to a several hundred meters in depth. ... Show more content on

These production platforms come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and types, which are dependent on the
dimensions of the field, the depth of the water and how far the oil and/or gas field is from shore.
The platforms are generally made of steel and fixed to the seabed with steel posts. These platforms
harbor all of the processing equipment for the well and can house a maximum of 80 workers. In
addition, platforms have concrete structures large enough to store oil, with gravity keeping them
situated on the seabed
Explanation of Drilling
Drilling begins once the drill bit is lowered to the ocean floor. This first step is referred to as spudding.
There are two types of drill bits: (1) a roller cone or rock bit which usually has three cones armed with
steel or tungsten carbide teeth or buttons; or (2) a diamond bit, imbedded with small industrial
diamonds. The drill bit is attached to drill pipe and rotated by a turntable on the platform floor. As the
hole deepens, extra lengths of drill pipe are attached. (Offshore Drilling)
The diameter of the drill bit varies from a diameter of 36 inches, which is used when the hole in the
ocean floor is first started, to a diameter of 8.5 inches. The total length of a drill pipe is 30 feet. The
time it takes for the drill to reach the oil and gas trap could be weeks.
In order to move the drill cuttings

Descriptive Essay On Fishing
My father and I have be going on an annual fishing trip since I was eight. Every summer, we would go
out and sit for hours waiting for something to bite. Last year my father made a poignant observation,
he noted that in recent years there seemed to be less fish. He s been doing this trip since he was my
age and where he used to at least get some pull, he now has to wait nearly twice as long for anything. I
ve since come to realize that our ocean is running out of fish. We are overexploiting a natural resource
and doing nothing to stop it. The current large scale fishing operations are not sustainable ecologically
or economically.
large fish are disappearing from the ocean at alarmingly high rates. There has been a 90% decline in
the top predator fish abundance in the world between 1955 and 2000. Most industrial fishing
techniques are overly aggressive to marine environments in that they attract an abundance of bycatch.
The three primary techniques are surface long line Fishing where chains more than 100 kilometers
long are floated in the ocean with thousands of baited hooks, fish aggregating devices use long nets
going down 300 meters that are left for days and just collect fish indiscriminately, finally and perhaps
the worst being bottom Trawling which involves a long heavily weighed net dragged across seafloor.
Fish aggregating devices are too indiscriminate in what kind of marine life they capture. They are
often deployed with the intention of catching skipjack

Formation Of Proprietary Company Essay
Question One The first issue arose on the grounds of factors, which were taken into consideration by
Haili and John at the time of formation of proprietary company rather than Partnership Company. It
can be assumed that in deciding the structure, the features of the two types of companies and both the
positive negative perspectives of them were given attention before the final mind set. On one hand, the
salient features found under the Partnership heading were as follows: a) Such companies can be
formed through an oral or written agreement, though the written agreement was not mandatory but
common. b) Minimum two persons were required and maximum 10 persons in case of the banking
business and 20 in other types of business. c) The business name must be registered with ASIC if the
name was not under each partner. d) Sharing of profit among the partners was to be done according to
the agreed ratio and vice versa in terms of any losses. On the other hand, the characteristic of
proprietary company were discovered to be as follows: (a) privately held company that could be either
unlimited or limited. (b) Such type of company was known to have a separate legal entity and as per
the decided case of Salomon v Salomon Company Ltd [1897] , it was, therefore, distinct from its
directors, shareholders, promoters and other members. (c) Governed by a separate law, so it had right,
duties and obligation. As a result, such company can have assets as well as liabilities and make

The Controversy Over Gun Control
In the past few years Gun control has become a hot topic throughout America. With all the shootings
going around the United States, we are faced with controversies over gun control. Americans believe
that their government is going to do whatever is best for them, but is that true when they are trying to
strip us of our rights that were created for us over 300 years ago. Our country has been thriving with
the amendments and laws set before us, and today we are trying to change them. But by just changing
a few laws is that really going to stop a criminal from getting what they wanted, there criminals for a
reason. Our second amendment gives us the right to bear arms and protect our selves from enemies
foreign and domestic. This is the foundation of country; we fight to keep the right that were given to
us, so that we can protect our families, our country, and our freedom. America has always prided it
self on being the land of the free , but with freedom comes sacrifices. However, most Americans do
not see the significance of freedom, because we are sitting on our couches living normal lives, and on
the other hand we have those individuals that joined the armed forces to keep us a safe and protect our
freedom. Lawrence Hunter stated that The Founders understood that the right to own and bear laws is
as fundamental and as essential to maintaining liberty... With liberty comes freedom and the right to
bear arms, how would the solders feel if they came home and their rights were

Team Cohesion
Groups, teams, and organizations are dynamic (not static), exhibit life and vitality, interaction, and
activity; and consist of a collection of two or more individuals that possess a common identity, pursue
common goals and objectives, share a common fate, and interact through structured patterns and
modes of communication (Eys, Burke, Dennis, Evans, 2015).
Cohesion is reflected in the group s tendency to stick together and remain united as they pursue a
common set of goals and objectives that satisfy each member s affective (e.g., moods, feelings, and
attitudes) needs (Eys et al., 2015).
As validated by research studies, team cohesion, a dynamic process reflected in a team s bond and
unity to achieve a goal, is an important psychological factor affecting athletic performance (i.e., as
team cohesion increases, so does performance and success) (Kim, Park, Kim, 2017). Groups are
united in two principle ways: task and social (Eys et al., 2015). ... Show more content on

Analysis Of The Blackbird Call In Grief
Death is a spiritual experience that is flush with taboo connotations. When a loved one leaves this life
for the after there are tears and grieving. This occurrence has been used countless times throughout
history to commemorate the passing of a loved one, this makes it difficult to produce a piece of poetry
that discussed death in a way it has not been discussed before. In The New Oxford Book of Irish Verse
poem 67 which will be referred to as The blackbird calls in grief , poem 108 which will be referred to
as There are three ways to await death , and All That is Left...by Michael Hartnett discuss this taboo
topic in new and interesting ways. These poems are distinct because of the way that the author
represents death. These poems are related and similar while being vastly different.
The blackbird calls in grief is an anonymously written poem from the twelfth century. The narrator of
the poem laments the story of the death of loved ones. In the poem, the narrator laments to a blackbird
and mourns the passing of both their families. The bird is personified by the narrator. In this poem, the
death is of two families, the birds, and the mans. The harm now happened to him/ not long since
happened to me (Kinsella 85). An analogy is created equating the loss of the two families and the
injustice of the loss. The seventh stanza questions God, O You who made the world, / Your bias is hard
to bear:/ friends all around me are spared, / their woman and young survive (Kinsella

Summary Of Srinivasha RamaanujanBy John Keats
collaborated on several ground breaking papers. But in 1917, as a result of the climate and a poor diet,
Ramanujan contracted tuberculosis. A well known story tells Hardy visiting him in hospital; unable to
think what to say.
Placing Ramanujan along side John Keats may seem a bit paradoxical as he former belonging to
Mahemtics the latter to English Literature. Moreover, Ramanujan has never been marked having an
interest in English language nor in literature. But the juxtaposition is apt and appropriate in the sense
that both the heroes of respective faculties are te best examples of the proverb, Men live in deeds not
in years . John Keats lived for only twenty sic years. In his short span of life granted to him, he dived
deep into the ocean of literature and gave many precious verses that are peculiar and unique. He left
an everlasting imprint on the body of English literature by devoting his life to the service of English
Literarure. He lived through many odds in life. Miseries dominated in his life. He died of tuberculosis.
He stands no way less than the other poets, some were fortunate even to spend enough to a century.
Likewise, Srinivasha Ramanujan lived only thirty three years. For him also, life was not a bed of roses
trails and distributions became part and parcel of his life. But he remained engrossed in his
mathematical passion notching up several milestones in his short life span. Even though he had lived
for only thirty three years, he has contributed a lot

Marketing Principles Of A Successful Business
In a world where we re always wanting more, and what we have never seems to be enough. One
desires more, once basic needs are fulfilled. Human needs are basic requirements for maintaining life,
such as, air, food, water, shelter, and clothing. Wants are comforting and pleasurable. Wants are the
desires that are not essential to life, but makes life a little more enjoyable. Both are unlimited and
endless. The economy devotes business to satisfy one s wants, because ones basic needs are fulfilled.
Although, a person needs have been fulfilled one desires more. Needs, wants, and demands are a part
of marketing principles businesses use to obtain data. In order for businesses to make a profit,
consumers must spend. A successful business, pays attention to market research, surveys, reviews, and
feedback. In order to reinvent and improve the business to satisfy consumers wants. From marketing
strategies, racy advertising, colorful bright billboards, to repetitive commercials. All intended to catch
one s eye and desire it, desire the need to have it, and most importantly buy it. US is the largest
producer of goods and services in the world, leaving us Americans as the leading consumer.
Businesses thrive if we buy their products, and that is how the economy flourishes. Consistently
creating a demand through superficial items, that consumers love. Why buy or drink plain filtered
water when one can drink Evian water? Why buy regular, plain toothpaste when one can have

The Oak Tree Creative Writing
Throwing open the screen door, he steps outside with exhilaration brewing in his body. As the screen
door closes with a slam, he inhales the sweet scent of the countryside grass and scans the backyard. It
is littered with trees; amongst the ocean of green grass, he sees the biggest tree standing in the middle:
the old oak tree. Standing prouder than all the others, its vibrant green leaves touch the blue sky.
Looking under the oak tree, he sees what he has been looking for. Hanging from the thick oak
branches is a brown woven rope. The sturdy rope is tied around the object of his fascination: an old
piece of rubber.
He runs out toward it and within a second, he is facing it. The ancient rope, worn from weather, has
small strings sticking out. Under the worn rope is the black rubber, once a stark coal color, but from its
present condition, it is clear that it has survived extreme weather. Decades earlier, the black rubber had
defined ridges, now the ridges are no longer so obvious and have been dulled down with time. The
white letters that once bordered the edge of the circle are peeling off, littering the ground like
snowflakes. He brushes off the dirt and climbs inside the circle. As he climbs on, his feet kick up dust
from the patch of bare earth under the rubber and cause a dust storm for the insects below. He grabs

  • 2. The Importance Of Censorship In Literature According to author Mette Newth, forms of censorship can be traced back to as early as 399 BC when officials sentenced Socrates to drink poison as a punishment for his corruption of youth and his acknowledgement of unorthodox divinities. From this point, Newth goes on to note that uncensored free speech was a challenge for early religious figures. As the leaders watched seemingly dangerous ideas pour into their once pure world through literature and verbal stories, censorship became more rigid, and punishment more severe. However, regardless of the efforts put forth, these leaders could not hold back the changes to come, and the world progressed. Attempts to censor the words put into the world eventually spread from primarily religious leaders, the government, and even to citizens with no authority whatsoever. Over time, censorship has increased to some degree in terms of literature, but the people should not have to tolerate any form of censorship. Regardless of any reason for it, censorship, specifically book banning, proves itself unnecessary and the decision of what art or information anybody intakes should remain up to the consumer themselves. When censorship began, literature suffered all of the initial impact. As printing technology advanced and leaders lost complete control over what information people omitted into the world, Newth states that the printed book [b]ecame a religious battleground. However, the censorship of book quickly went far past ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Chin The Largest Economy At present, China is the largest economy in the world, overtaking the US in January 2015. It is also the world s second largest oil consumer behind the US (Chen 2015) and the world s largest net importer of crude oil (Dunn 2014). Its net importer status was driven by steady economic growth, with rapidly rising Chinese petroleum demand outpacing production growth (EIA 2014). China is also the fourth largest oil producing country in the world (Refer to Appendix ___). The growth in the developing nation s economy over the past 3 decades was heavily dependent on its low cost advantage compared to those of other countries. During this period of growth, foreign companies flocked to China to set up production facilities and factories to capitalize on this cost advantage. Raw materials are shipped to China, where factory workers build the final products and export them out to various countries (Wassener 2014). However, recently, china s economy has experienced a significant slowdown due to the shift in growth of the nation to rely more on private enterprise and domestic consumption. This shift in economy reduces its demand for industrial raw materials for manufacturing, which translates to a decrease in demand of oil for use in production plants. A survey of China s industrial heartland identified decreases in key areas of new orders, export orders and output prices (Letts 2015). Furthermore, being the world s second largest consumer of oil, this move that China makes will have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. City Of Ember Book Vs Movie Essay Humanity s Back Up City What if humanity did not have the sun, the moon, and a steady supply of electricity? In The City of Ember, Jeanne DuPrau writes about a city that lives underground, only they don t know that they live underground. The citizens of Ember have never heard of the sun, the moon, stars, plants, or animals. But if they don t have the sun or moon, how do they see anything? Ember has an ancient generator in tunnels running under the city the Pipeworks. This generator supplies electricity to all of the light bulbs that give light to Ember. Ember has a large stock of food and light bulbs to last them awhile 220 years to be exact. After 220 years they would all escape because the mayors of the city have a secret box with instructions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Well, the differences between the book and movie range from small, nitpicky details to important aspects of the book. For one, on assignment day everyone who got a job was supposed to be twelve, but in the movie Doon was seventeen and there were little five year olds running around with jobs. Also another age related fault in the movie was when they made Looper look like he was forty, not fifteen, and dating Lizzie. Besides age, the movie also cut out important scenes to show just how severe the power outages and supply scarcities were, such as the part when Lina was buying color pencils and Poppy got lost during a blackout. The movie also made Ember look like it had more futuristic things than it should have had. In movie Ember, Pipeworks laborers had hats with lights on them that could connect to electricity, but no movable light source was found in the books. Instead of having a complicated lock on the box with the instructions, the box looked computerized. As a replacement for a supply room, the movie had conveniently lockers that could transform into boats. It had bugs and parasites, such as the octo rat thing, hiding around corners that could not be found in the book. With all those differences, it only makes sense the book fans are ... • 5. Should Craig Venter Use Yeast To Create Synthetic Life The concept of synthetic life is to create a new type of living cell out of synthetic DNA. Craig Venter and other scientists wanted to find a way to understand how life form on Earth. They were answering the question; can mankind create lifeforms? Craig Venter did answer this question by eventually using yeast to perform a transplant to make a new type of cell. In my opinion, Craig Venter should not attempt to create synthetic life because I think it is playing God and ultimately messing with the balance of nature. Abiotic synthesis proves that life was made out of inorganic precursors like energy from lighting or UV radiation. I am such a strong believer in letting mother nature take care of itself and because of that I would not trust the creation of synthetic life. I also think messing with synthetic life would make more problems for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It can even be the source of new man made diseases which actually defeats the purpose of creating synthetic life. Other that are for synthetic life would say that this advancement would be benefit science and life as we know it. It could make life cleaner and better by helping to fight climate change and pollution . Some could even argue that having the knowledge to create synthetic life was God giving us permission to go ahead and use synthetic life every day. There are many consequences for creating synthetic life and because of that I really feel like it is something we as humans need to think deeply about. A positive consequence/reward would be that creating synthetic life would boost our economy and help in the medical field. However, a really bad outcome could be that this innovation could be misused and cause another problem. It could be a disease or just a new battle between nations to create the best synthetic biohazard bacteria or virus, eventually wiping out the human race. My example may seem too extreme, but it could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Curse And The Doom Of The New World Introduction 1. Fuku means a curse or a doom of some kind; specifically the Curse and the Doom of the New World (Diaz, 1). The significance fuku had in the Dominican history and beliefs were that the name was placed on the people that did harm to the Dominican Republic. For example, The Admiral s very name has become synonymous with both kinds of fuku, little and large; to say his name aloud or even to hear it is to invite calamity on the heads of you and yours (Diaz, 1). Also, the dictator Trujillo was considered a powerful fuku, if anyone would have utter his name in vain one would have been kick out of sea. Fuku is believed to have been unleashed by the arrival of Europeans on Hispaniola. 2. I think Diaz chose to convey historical facts and anecdotes in footnote form for the fact that Diaz may assume one may know something. But just in case someone does not know it he included a brief description. For example, when Diaz mentions the dictator Trujillo and if I don t know anything of him, I can just look at the footnote for brief description of him. Also, I think Diaz chose this method for the people who want to learn more about the person or thing. 3. I think the purpose of Diaz writing this book is related to fuku. This is because the introduction is based on the word fuku and different ways fuku is portrayed in history. Also, on the line, As I m sure you ve guessed by now, I have a fuku story too (Diaz, 6). The line illustrates that Diaz might write a personal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Educating Students For A Global Society The twenty first century seemed light years away when I was in high school. It feels like we blinked and suddenly we have arrived. With the dawn of this new century, the face of education is changing. We have to prepare students for a global society. Our test scores show that American education reform is not just a want but also a necessity. The diverse communities within our classrooms have forced us to reevaluate best practices to meet the needs of our students. Collaborative teaching is one way to meet the needs of students of all skill levels. Co teaching allows for differentiated instruction that will meet the needs of ELL students, students of low income families, students with identified learning disabilities, etc. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instructional collaborative activities allow teachers to align teaching objectives, materials, learning strategies, and assessment so that students can be supported academically in a cohesive manner. Team teaching provides all students access to the general education curriculum and general education. All students need to have access to the mainstream curriculum and assistance through teaching and learning strategies that make concepts understandable. When teachers plan together, they can ensure that the needs of all lessons are presented in a way that will reach students. Today s classrooms have many different challenges, and working with a colleague to meet those challenges is far superior to working in isolation, as teachers frequently do (Dove). Planning together is key to ensuring that all students will have access to the curriculum. That old saying, two heads are better than one rings true in collaborative teaching. Teachers will learn from each other s expertise and expand the scope of their teaching capacity (Ferry, 2013). When teachers come together to provide instruction, they have the opportunity to observe good teaching practices. Teachers are often very isolated. They don t get the opportunity to see other good teachers in action. It is difficult to learn new teaching practices when you are never allowed to observe other classrooms. This resulted in lack of structure and consistency throughout the whole chain stores, as you gave each store manager to much autonomy to change the store i.e. decor, food menu etc., the business culture values as a whole was lost and that was what made the business a success before. I understand some changes had to be made but not so drastically. By collecting blood samples twice during the fourteen days of access, we established that this intake was often sufficient to raise BECs into the binge range ( 80mg/dl). It is possible that the lack of schedule dependency per se may have been associated with limitations in the number of test days due to the time constraints of adolescence. Indeed, SIP with an ethanol solution is typically established in adult rats over a period of many weeks in the operant chambers, during which the concentration of ethanol is gradually raised (Falk et al., 1972). In preliminary work, we established the 14 day (P28 41) intake period, noting that consumptions declined notably as animals transitioned out of the early mid adolescent period, an ontogenetic time course similar to what we have observed in home cage consumption studies (Vetter O Hagen et al., 2009). In Experiment 1b, animals given access to Boost® without ethanol consumed on average more than twice as much fluid (ml/kg) per intake session than their ethanol drinking counterparts in Experiment 1a. This is likely to be due to the high palatability of chocolate Boost ® for adolescent rats, which is diminished by the combination of the bitter/sweet taste properties of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the major things noticeable from the cross section is that quite a few of the rock layers are over turned, where the older rock layers are above the newer rock layers. This is seen in the contact between the Quartz Monzonite of Papoose Flat and the Campito Formation which is also a disconformity. Next there is some fault zones separating the Camptio, Poleta, and Harkless formations. We then see some more overturned layers with the contacts between Saline Spring Valley Formation (lower and upper members) above the Mule Spring Formation along with some inferred folding. With a normal fault separating the inferred folding event, we see where the overturning occurs. In between the Cambrian layers we see Tertiary Basalt nonconformities also being folded, thus with that we know that the folding event was more recent than the formation of the Basalt. Next there is a large Basalt field with a spot of the Harkless formation. Again we see over tuning as the Basalt field ends there are the Devonian and Mississippian rock Layers on top of the basalt. Separating these overturned layers from the Harkless Formation and the Saline valley Formation (upper member), which are not overturned, is a thrust fault. From this information, there was a major stress event sometime after the Tertiary period causing the rock layers to fold and overturn. And from this stress event and from the folding, normal and thrust faults are formed. Finally we see that there were alluvial and landslide deposits from the Quaternary after the folding, faulting, and over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If a company s current ratio is in this range, then it is generally considered to have good short term financial strength. If current liabilities exceed current assets (the current ratio is below 1), then the company may have problems meeting its short term obligations. If the current ratio is too high, then the company may not be efficiently using its current assets or its short term financing facilities. This may also indicate problems in working capital management. Low values for the current or quick ratios (values less than 1) indicate that a firm may have difficulty meeting current obligations. Low values, however, do not indicate a critical problem. If an organization has good long term prospects, it may be able to borrow against those prospects to meet current obligations. Some types of businesses usually operate with a current ratio less than one. For example, if inventory turns over much more rapidly than the accounts payable become due, then the current ratio will be less than one. This can allow a firm to operate with a low current ratio. If all other things were equal, a creditor, who is expecting to be paid in the next 12 months, would consider a high current ratio to be better than a low current ratio, because a high current ratio means that the company is more likely to meet its liabilities which fall due in the next 12 months. If the business s current ratio is too low, it may be raised by: * Paying

This switch would provide farmers another source of income and would also help to prevent the spread of the insect. The one problem with this solution was that no one knew what to do with all the peanut crops. Carver was quoted as saying: we can learn to synthesize materials for every human need from the things that grow. So that is what he did. Long term goals have been described as the destination of therapy (Julia Bowman and Lise. L. Mogensen, 2010, p.100). For therapists the long term goal is how far the client wants to improve; if it is being fully independent, being able to do the cleaning, the long term goal would be set to get them to that place. However, if the client is not reaching their goals, this is when grading comes to place. Grading is the modification of an activity to support the client s performance (Bridgett,2011, OT A Z: G is for Grading). Grading is all about adjusting the goal to make it easier or harder for the client. If the client was about to do their goal very quickly you would change their goal to make it harder for them; thus they can work towards a new goal. Technologists and policymakers exist in two worlds, two cultures when it comes to viewing a problem and developing a solution. Nevertheless, technologist and policymakers have been up against some very complex issues such as how to control piracy of copyrighted digital media. However, copyright owners have sought out legal means to protect their intellectual assets. In recent years copyright laws have been in effect to strike a balance between protecting the rights of authors, artist and copyright owners, and according to the U.S. Constitution, to promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts. Digital technology, unlike analog technology that preceded it, can make large copies in real time without the degradation in quality. However, as a response to these capabilities of digital technology, policymakers had to create a system of digital rights management (DRM) and other technical deterrents where digital content owners could exert control over media usage. In response to these complex issues, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) of 1998 was passed. As the screen door closes with a slam, he inhales the sweet scent of the countryside grass and scans the backyard. It is littered with trees; amongst the ocean of green grass, he sees the biggest tree standing in the middle: the old oak tree. Standing prouder than all the others, its vibrant green leaves touch the blue sky. Looking under the oak tree, he sees what he has been looking for. Hanging from the thick oak branches is a brown woven rope. The sturdy rope is tied around the object of his fascination: an old piece of rubber. He runs out toward it and within a second, he is facing it. The ancient rope, worn from weather, has small strings sticking out. Under the worn rope is the black rubber, once a stark coal color, but from its present condition, it is clear that it has survived extreme weather. Decades earlier, the black rubber had defined ridges, now the ridges are no longer so obvious and have been dulled down with time. The white letters that once bordered the edge of the circle are peeling off, littering the ground like snowflakes. He brushes off the dirt and climbs inside the circle. As he climbs on, his feet kick up dust from the patch of bare earth under the rubber and cause a dust storm for the insects below. He grabs hold ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
