Explain Why Students Should Not Be Allowed To Have Cell...
Failure to pay attention. Lack of honesty. Poor grades. These are some outcomes of allowing
cellphones in class. Eight ball or word cookies may end up causing you to fail or miss an assignment.
Students should not be allowed to have and use their cellphones because of inequality, distractions,
and dishonesty. To begin with, students should not be allowed to have cell phones in class due to
inequality. Even though most students have cell phones, some do not. Students may be embarrassed if
they don t have a cell phone like all the other students. Another reason why inequality is an issue
because of the lack of power sources. Not all classrooms provide outlets or have enough outlets for
everyone to use. Everyone charging their phones at the same time or looking for an outlet at the same
time would be chaos. Secondly, distractions are a big ordeal in class. Cell phones are a problem due to
sounds and ringtones because they can cause a distraction during a lesson. Maybe in the middle of a
test and all of a sudden a ding or a ring goes off. You get all sidetracked and then lose track of what
you were thinking of or what the answer was. You may be tempted to want to play 8 ball or word
cookies. In the middle of the game the teacher ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Allowing students to have their cell phones out can allow them to be able to go on the internet and
look up answers to a test or class work. They could text another student and ask them for answers.
Also, allowing students to have cell phones in class, can make a chance for cyber bullying to happen. A
student that may not be friends with another classmate could capture an embarrassing moment for the
student and post it to allow all of his friends to see it. Students could video or take pictures of a
teacher during class which could get the teacher in trouble. Allowing cellphones in class will more
than likely just cause lying and

Kaleidoscope Eyes Analysis
Internal Comments:
No. While the idea that we choose to see the world either optimistically and pessimistically is
beautifully expressed throughout the poem, it comes across as trite in parts. The main idea of the poem
is not completely developed instead, the author spends too much time on unnecessary side characters.
In addition, there are several errors in terms of grammar as well as imprecise word choice.
To the First Reader:
Dear Denee Freeman, thank you for your commentary on submission 10405 ( Kaleidoscope Eyes ).
All of your comments are formatted correctly, and I particularly appreciate your depth on your
specific comments. In terms of things to work on, I would recommend being more gentle in your
wording. A question posed with language ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author does this by presenting a variety of snapshots of people with this grey world view,
lingering on the last snapshot of the family, to expand on the kaleidoscope view of the children. You re
obviously aware of how language impacts mood, and do a nice job choosing their words.
I wished this poem had more showing, instead of telling, such as with the failed marriage and the will
to continue living. I think more specificity in your images, would eliminate both some of the moments
where the poem borders on cliche as well as the moments that distance the reader from the snapshots.
Personal details with make the poem stronger, and feel like the reader is in your snapshot scenes.
The second note for revision I have for this poem is to think about the form. Right now the form isn t
particularly helping you, and in some places with the uneven spacing and unnecessary stanza breaks, it
actively hurts your poem. I would consider fewer stanzas personally. I wonder even about having a
very regimented line, stanza, or even a syllabic pattern, except for those lines speaking about
kaleidoscope eyes. Thank you so much for submitting to Polyphony H.S.; continue

Evaluation Of A Student Outcomes
Part two: Summary of student outcomes
The evaluation of the students work was conducted with the end of year exams in mind. In particular, I
wanted to provide feedback and forward to the students that was targeted towards their essay writing
in the exams at the end of the year. I grouped results from what grades the students gained against the
marking schedule that I developed. Bearing in mind that the sample size was small, most students
attained the merit grade, with the same amount of students being either side of the merit grade with
three respectively. This indicates that the work that is being achieved is at an above average level,
highlighted by no one failing the assessment. The evidence also suggests that the students are on the
way to excellence. With the feed forward being provided there should be a number of those students
who should be attaining excellences in that class at the end of year mock exams.
In terms of the specific feedback forward itself. There were common trends that came through for
each grade. Figure two, outlines some common themes that came across for each student attaining
those grades. For the achieved level the, students were identifying the causes and consequences. The
feedforward for those students is that if they want to attain merits and excellences they need to be
giving more specific detail to accompany their causes and consequences. What that indicates is that I
need to provide to those students a wider range of examples to allow

The Historical 1906 San Francisco Earthquake
One of the most greatest appearing earthquake in San Francisco in the year of 1906. It was
approximately 7.8 earthquake. The earthquake had hit buildings, schools, streets and houses. Killing
hundreds of people and injuring thousands. This earthquake began at an opera house and ended up all
throughout the streets in San Francisco. The Great San Francisco Earthquake may be studied by
examining the earthquake, the spread of fire, and the aftermath of the worst natural disasters.
The night before the quake it was an average typical night in the windy city of San Francisco. World
famous opera singer, Enrico Caruso was performing at the city s Grand Opera House. The music had
filled the building up with his beautiful singing. Enrico s voice was like a thunderbolt which seemed
to be rocking the Opera House. Little did the payed audience have knowledge of that an earthquake
was going to come in a matter of hours. Not only that but this earthquake was going shatter the city
into piece by piece, and destroy San Francisco including the Opera House. The earthquake had shook
the ground within twenty to twenty five seconds. Then, at 5:12 a.m., it had erupted and began it s
terror on the city. Furthermore, the earthquake was felt from Los Angeles to southern Oregon and as
far as central Nevada. The earthquake was bursting through the northern region in four hundred thirty

What Was The Role Of Women In Nineteenth-Century England
Introduction
A conflict stirred among the sexes during the nineteenth century that reverberated through all aspects
of life from science to literature. The advent of the Industrial Revolution in the late 1700s and the
introduction of capitalism sparked the discussion on the nature and role of women as society shifted
from a land centered economy to an urban workforce. This argument gained such notoriety it
commonly became known as The Woman Question, and it covered aspects of the legal and political
rights of women, education, and economic opportunities. Such was the discussion that scientists,
philosophers, and biologists like Charles Darwin, Herbert Spencer, and Patrick Geddes entered the
debate with each offering ideas on the role women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He called for perfect equality among the sexes (Mill 3). Then, in 1871, Charles Darwin published The
Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex. In this book, he discusses topics ranging from
human evolution, as in his On the Origin of Species, to the differences between the sexes. The latter
topic being the most prominent in the discussion on The Woman Question and what roles women were
to occupy. British philosopher Herbert Spencer suggested everyone had basic rights, including
women, and that these rights were necessary for social progress and those basic rights fell in with
cooperation among the sexes rather than competition (Sweet). Similarly, Patrick Geddes, a Scottish
biologist and follower of Spencer, theorized that male and female characteristics were complementary
and must be kept in balance. His views supported, to some degree, the separation of men and women
into separate spheres not because the sexes were unequal but because they were and needed ways in
which to express their strengths. Interestingly enough, these types of ideas and theories surfaced in the
literature of the Victorian era, namely that of Coventry Patmore and Florence

The Great Hunger And The Irish Potato Famine
Intro The Great Hunger, Great Famine, the dreaded calamity, or if your outside of Ireland the Irish
Potato Famine. Occurring between 1847 1852, the famine claimed the lives of around one million
people and caused millions to flee Ireland, in order to escape the bleak situation it was. Today I will be
giving some background of life in Ireland before the famine started of the average citizen, I will
briefly discuss the pathogen that killed the potato crop, the government response to the famine, the
overall consequences and reactions of the Irish people, and finally I will discuss the ethical dilemmas
that the famine raise.
Slide one Land Ownership Starting off I would like to explain what life was like for the average Irish
citizen in the mid 19th century. Most people were tenant agriculture farmers who worked for
landlords, who owned vast estates, but a great deal of them didn t, in fact, live in Ireland, which lead
to them being commonly referred to as absentee landlords. The landlords allotted workers small plots
of land to grow their own food in exchange for working the land growing grain cash crops. In order to
sustain a high calorie diet for themselves and their families, most of these tenant farmers grew
potatoes. This was primarily due to the fact you get a lot of bang for your buck from potatoes as they
yielded quite a bit of calories per acre. Outside of what the tenants ate, Ireland produced quite a bit of
food but this was mostly exported to England where

Carlotta Character Traits
Characterization:
Christine This adaptation portrays Christine as ditzy, but not stupid. She has no idea that Raoul has
fallen in love with her and sees him only as a friend. She is pretty, naive, and nice (mostly, however,
very protective over her solos) which makes for a bad combination. She doesn t fully understand the
power she holds over the other characters. For example, if she had told Raoul to go away, he probably
would have. She really moves the story forward as it revolves around her actions and reactions to
events. Her overall motivation consists of furthering her singing career and finding love with someone
who allows her to have her freedom. The other characters like her and she has no problems connecting

It draws the audience in through more moving songs, such as Think of Me. The dialogue has an
overarching modern quality to it, as opposed to the more formal version in the stage and movie
adaptations. The main trio (Phantom, Christine, and Raoul) talk about going to Red Robin, as one
example. They also throw in modern allusions to literature and film (singing machine from Shrek), as
well as Christine using her phone during the roof scene. These changes make it easier for the audience
to connect and find humor within the story. Similar speech patterns follow the characters throughout
the story. Phantom commands and bosses the other characters, which fits his character profile within
the One Act. Raoul has a more scattered and foolish mind. Carlotta uses the most unfamiliar words,
such as ingenue, which denoted a young female character who has endearing innocence or naivety
(Christine). This also fits with her characterization as she has the most experience of the characters in
the world of theater and

Gastrocnemius Muscle Essay
Discussion
Gastrocnemius Muscle vs Sciatic Nerve Threshold and Maximum Voltage Stimulation (Direct vs
Indirect stimulation) The gastrocnemius muscle which consists of bundles of myofibrils continuously
contract and initiate a motor unit recruitment which makes it easier to increase from the threshold to
the maximum voltage via the sciatic nerve from 75.4 grams to 184 grams. When there was already
such a high threshold it was easy to reach a maximum with an increase in only .8 volts. In contrast, the
direct stimulation of the muscle has a physical limitation to the region that is innervated by the current
thus it seems that it takes a lot more voltage to reach a maximum voltage. As seen in figure 5, there
seems to be a greater amount of voltage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this experiment there were surprising results for how the individual muscles build up and uses
energy with recruitment can elucidate why it is important to see how the muscle attempts to remain
efficient with such a use. There seemed to be no tetany reached, and it helped understand that it must
have been a research error because there is enough literature that explains how the mechanism of such
a motor unit recruitment occurs. This just indicated that it is important to double check all lab
equipment to avoid researcher error. It seems that both the direct vs indirect experiment and the
frequency experiment indicated the importance of the Henneman s principle of motor recruitment.
Last but not least, tubocurare seemed to behave like a classic competitive inhibitor where there
seemed to be a point where it was not as effective at competing for the acetylcholine receptors, and
thus resulted in an decrease in the rate of how much tubocurare was taken up as seen in figure 4. All
these different aspects that play a role in skeletal muscle movement imply that there needs to be a lot
of conjunction between so minute aspects of the muscle and the motor

The evidence given by Robert Owen, a mill owner, clearly indicates his strong views on the damage
being done to young children s physical and mental health, including deformed limbs, stunted growth
and being very slow academic learners. Sir Robert Peel Senior based his evidence on well known
opinion, stating that children of 8 or 9 years of age who were confined in the factories for not less than
15 hours a day could not bear that degree of hardship without damaging their health.
The views of Lord Lascelles, Mr. Finlay and GA Lee showed little concern for the children s health
their extracts confirm the basic economic need of the children to work and the factories to employ
them. They agreed that legislation was not necessary. Lord Lascelles was more concerned with the
interference of the principle of free labour and that more legislative measures would follow. Mr.
Finlay s view was that legislation would be detrimental to the vitally important manufacturing
industry and that consideration should be given to the fact that it employed more people than all of the
other manufacturer s in the country put together .

Leadership Styles Of The Leadership
Leadership has been around for many years yet, still unable to contain it in a particular definition
everyone agree on. There are numerous effective leadership styles used in the organization to achieve
their goals. Leadership is becoming increasingly recognized as a crucial issue for organizations facing
change in a complex and volatile environment. (Higgs 2009, p. 165) The leader is the person who can
guide and inspire others to do things according to their needs with the success of the group as a goal.
Leadership may be considered as the process of influencing the activities of an organized group in its
efforts toward goal setting and goal achievement. (Stogdill 1950, p. 3) If the team led by powerful
leader, it is most likely that the team will be able to meet the goals as well as their purpose and
success.
Participative Leadership
The participative leadership is the management style that invited information from member s
decisions. It is a method of leadership that involves all team members in terms of identifying
important goals as well as developing the approaches and processes to achieve the objective. From
this view, this style of leadership allowed leader to work closely with other team members focusing on
building relationships and harmony. This type of leadership worked very well towards group work as

A.C.L.U and Planned Parenthood v. Pence Opinion
The case of A.C.L.U and Planned Parenthood v. Pence has brought attention to the Supreme Court
with the question of which of the two is of greater importance: the duty to honor the woman s
autonomy versus the duty to respect potential life. Indiana s governor, Mike Pence, has signed a
House Enrolled Act No.1337 to amend the Indiana health code, which will go in effect on July 1 of
2016. The act affects abortions in several ways which include that doctors much provide perinatal
hospice care information to women considering abortion after receiving a diagnosis of a lethal fetal
anomaly, prohibits all abortions solely based on fetus s race, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, or
diagnosis of the fetus having any disability, and lastly requires the women to take responsibility
financially for the disposal of the remain of any abortion or miscarriage. After the act was signed into
law, A.C.L.U of Indiana and Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky sued Governor Pence on
the grounds that the law was unconstitutional. The A.C.L.U and Planned Parenthood won in the
district court. The case was appealed to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals and was reversed. Today, the
court responds to the petitioners appeal by holding that Indiana s House Enrolled Act No.1337 is
unconstitutional. This decision stems from the recognition that the law while attempting to do its duty

The Goal Setting And Attainment
Unit One Essay
Goal setting and attainment appears to be a straightforward proposal. You simply come up with an
obtainable goal and then you work hard to make it a reality. To begin with I give myself short term
and long term goals to achieve. Before I joined the Army my short term goal was to achieve the rank
of Sergeant (E 5). My next short term goal wasn t to just achieve the next rank of Staff Sergeant (E 6)
I wanted to aim a little higher and make Sergeant First Class (E 7) within eight years, which I did. My
long term goal was to ultimately make it to the rank of Sergeant major (E 9). This goal is going to be
harder to achieve, but I know as long as I work hard I will achieve that goal. Goals are great, but
without follow through these goals will never come to fruition. By breaking down goals into smaller
goals a person will gain confidence and can eventually turn those small term goals in long term goals.
I knew that I could not just jump to Sergeant Major and that s why I set small short term goals to
achieve that rank. What is going to make me successful not only in my career, but also in my everyday
life is accomplishing one short term goal at a time. To obtain a Goal it requires steps or processes to
achieve the desired outcome which, according to Tim Harford, includes failure.
In Tim Harford s book Adapt he accepts that in the path to success don t be afraid to fail in the
process. The consequence of disappointment makes versatility, which is a key

Injustice In Roman Polanski s The Pianist
Jewish author Elie Wiesel once said There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice,
but there must never be a time when we fail to protest. Roman Polanski s The Pianist successfully
portrays this idea as he tells the story of Wladyslaw Szpilman, a Polish piano player who spends five
years struggling against Nazi Germany s invasion of Warsaw, Poland during World War II. Although
Szpilman and his family were incapable of preventing the injustice from happening around them, they
certainly did not fail to protest it against all odds. Filled with significant scenes that capture the cruel
behavior of the Nazis, The Pianist presents the theme of man s inhumanity towards one another at a
time where pain is inevitable and hardships must be endured.
Under the sheer persuasiveness of Adolf Hitler, the Jews were being denounced and controlled by
Germany s police forces. Being a Jewish man himself, Polanski was able to depict the story with dark,
acid humor and a callous objectivity that embodied both cynicism and compassion. In order to
establish this thought throughout the film, Polanski uses techniques including mise en scene and ...

Columbine And Misconceptions
Columbine by Dave Cullen tells the events that unfolded on April 20th, 1999. That day, two boys, self
proclaimed rebels, armed themselves and proceeded to murder the same students they had walked the
halls with for four years. As the stories of Dylan, Eric, and the victims of this tragic day came to light,
many falsehoods also arose. Unfortunately, the myths and truths about Columbine still linger with us
today. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold left a lasting impression on the world; but left behind the truth as
to why they really did it. This leaves us to wonder what really happened on that fateful day.
Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold changed the way schools handle threat precautions. The secrets they
left us; the boys being outcasts, bullies, and the trench coat mafia, leave us with a horrible tragedy to
deal with. Which are just some of the proven myths in the shooting of Columbine.
The first myth about Columbine is that Eric and Dylan were outcasts. In fact, they boys acted like
normal people. They attended school events and talked to people like normal human beings. They
blended in with the rest of the school, which didn t strike an alarm that soon enough these boys would
be a part of a terrible shooting. Although people were wrong about the boys being outcasts, they were
right that something was wrong in their head. Unfortunately, they spotted this too late, Eric and Dylan
thought they were better than everyone else. While the rest of the world thought they were a little

The Dilemmas Of Public Education And Public School...
The greatly discussed dilemma of having a child be taught in a public school setting versus a
homeschool setting has been evaluated by parents since the idea was first introduced in the 1970 s.
Public schooling had been the standard method of teaching since it is a requirement for states to
provide public, free education for children in grades K 12. However, the backlash against the system
began when two educational theorists and supporters of school reform, John Holt and Raymond
Moore, started to question both the techniques and the products of public schools. Some parents went
on to support the ideas of them and began to teach their children in the environment of their own
homes for several different reasons. Some included moral or religious reasons, a desire for high
educational achievement, dissatisfaction with public schools instructional program, or concerns about
drugs and peer pressure in a public school environment. Child development specialists believe that
homeschooled children are isolated from the outside world, therefore making them socially
handicapped. If being exposed to this type of education on an elementary school level, the child can
suffer from the lack of fundamental development of effective social skills needed for a lifetime ahead
of them.
It is believed that by restricting children from the real world and its many problems through home
schooling, they may never get the chance to learn both life lessons and social interaction skills on their

Cause And Effect Of Bullying
The Effects of Bullying
Nerd, ugly, stupid, creep, loser: these are just a few of the hurtful words that school bullies and other
students direct towards their excluded, vulnerable peers in schools around the U.S. Bullying is a
familiar word often heard in schools, workplaces and now on the internet. It can occur in the form of
physical, mental or emotional abuse. In general, bullying has been perceived as aggressive behavior
that is intentional, harassment, and an imbalance of power with the result of inflicting pain or
discomfort on others ( Bullying ). Thousands of children in the United States are affected every day by
bullying. This kind of behavior is detrimental to all involved and should not be allowed in any school
system as it can quickly affect an individual beyond anyone s imagination. In some cases, bullying can
undermine the self esteem of the victims which can force them to take extreme measures dangerous to
them and others. The experience of school bullying can end up causing enduring damage to both
victims and bullies. The effects of school bullying include decreased academic achievement,
depression and anxiety and high risk of self destructive behaviors. According to a study done by Gary
Ladd, a psychology professor at Arizona State University, 24 percent of children in the study suffered
chronic bullying throughout their school years, which was related to lower academic performance and
less engagement in school. Decreased academic achievement is a

The Second Treatise Of Government By John Locke
Justice with Michael Sandle
Episode 04
For most of human history people have been debating what is the appropriate nature of the
relationship between the individual and society. Starting with the ancient Greek, most people thought
that individuals should be subordinate to society. In the publication The Second Treatise of
Government, John Locke was the first to promote individualism over society. Though his ideas were
considered as liberal, now are embraced by many conservative. John Locke s ideas are the basis of the
American government and so it is important to keep America s nature; the rights of life, liberty to own
property, and the pursuit of happiness; at heart when creating laws.
In Locke s second treatise of government, John Locke described that to understand the rights of
individuals and role of government, one must starts with a consideration of men in a state of nature. In
a state of nature where everyone is equal and free, everyone could do anything as long as they
followed the law of nature. In the law of nature everyone had a right to self preservation, and it is
against the law of nature to impose that right. Due to the fact that there is no such thing as private
property in nature or the bible, John Locke uses the right to self preservation to justify the existence of
private property. It is clear to lock that individuals came before society in the state of nature, therefore
individuals are more important than any social order.

Argumentative Essay On Ufos Real
Have you ever seen a circle shaped object flying in the sky above you? Well, you might have just seen
a UFO filled with what we call, aliens. UFO stands for unidentified flying object. These objects circle
around us in the sky for a reason, a reason that we do not comprehend yet. Some people believe that
these objects have aliens in them studying our Earth and the way we live. I believe that UFOs are real
and have visited the Earth before to study humans and understand how we live.
One reason why I think that UFOs are real is because many scientists have picked up strange signals
from distant stars which could be aliens and these aliens travel in the UFOs. The article, Searching for
Life on Other Planets, states, After years of looking, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article, UFO Abductees and Contactees: Psychopathology or Fantasy Proneness? explains,
Biographical and analyses of 152 subjects who reported temporary abductions or persistent contacts
with UFO occupants show that these subjects are remarkably devoid of a history of mental illness.
This informs the reader that the people who have been abducted or have had interaction with UFO s
never had a history of mental illness but now they are experiencing these things since their interaction
with them. Imagine how scary it must have been to have been abducted by aliens and on top of that
have to deal with brain effects.
Some may say that UFO s are not real because we have never have seen an UFO up close and
personal before. Except they are real because we have had interaction with them many times through
satellites and radio signals. There has also been a countless number of spotting form people all over
the world. So there is enough evidence to back up the fact that UFOs are real.
In conclusion UFO s are real and they have visited the Earth before. The first reason why is because
scientists have picked up strange signals from distant stars. Second, there has been physiological
effects on UFO witnesses and abductees. There has also been countless numbers of citing s around the
world. Just think, we may not only be the only other organism in the galaxy. We may have

Why I Want to Attend Western Oregon University Essay
Western Oregon University Western Oregon is a standard 4 year, medium sized college. It is located in
the small, rural town of Monmouth, but only 10 miles from an urban city. Being primarily residential,
Western Oregon brings a certain family vibe, which they claim you cannot find anywhere else. Many
students say that their favorite part of Western Oregon is the size, since it gave them more one on one
time with their professors. There are a total of eighty three majors. Before financial aid and any
scholarship money are entered the tuition is $8,274 for in state students, while out of state student s
tuition is $21,759. Western Oregon estimated total cost if you are living on campus is $21,838, if you
are off campus the expected total ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Examples of the intramural sports they have are normal sports such as basketball, volleyball, softball,
and even flag football; some sports that are not so average are billiards, walleyball, racquetball, and
triathlons. This year at WOU they have a total of seventeen activities that you can take part in. These
activities include campus ministries, literary magazines, and a television station. As you can imagine
the activities provided at WOU bring in a lot of their students because it is a great opportunity to get
experience for your future job! Western Oregon s retention rate for part time students is 36%, while
their rate for full time students is 72%. This statistic speaks loudly for the good environment, social
community, and classroom environment! The safe environment of this small liberal arts college brings
many students in to the college. The serious crime rate (per 1000 students per year) is 0.96, the drug or
weapon incidents is 5.59, and as you could guess the highest rate is alcohol encounters at 13.12.
Though these statistics might seem high they are actually very low compared to other colleges. The
graduation rate for males is 33%, while the rate for females is 43%. The rate of getting a bachelor s
degree within four years is 16%, but the percentage goes all the way up to 34% after five years of
studies. After studying the ups and downs about this college I found that there are

Fearless Girl Vs Charging Bull Research Paper
Fearless Girl V Charging Bull
This article describes a debate which causes by two statues. In order to decide the position of two
statues, a controversy between sculptor and public began.
Although people always said women are free, there still have very few statues of women (Mccarthy,
par.1) until a statue called Fearless Girl appeared in front of another sculpture called Charging Bull in
New York City (Mccarthy, par.2). Because of Fearless Girl stands in front of the Charging Bull looks
like a girl is fearless when she faces the very fierce cow. So it was very famous and popular
(Mccarthy, par.7) for protecting and standing women s right (Mccarthy, par.12). But the sculptor who
made Charging Bull called Arturo Di Modica was very annoyed Fearless

Drug Use Is Not Something That Just Happens Overnight
Drug use is not something that just happens overnight. There are many things that led up to a person
deciding they want to try a drug for the first time. It might be that they were exposed to it at an early
age and perceived it to be the norm to use them. They might have experienced peer pressure at a party
or just wanted to fit in with a certain crowd. Or they may have gotten a prescription for one and liked
the high they felt when they were on it so they wanted to find a way to continue feeling that same
high. Each situation is different, and the drugs that were most likely used in each scenario are also
going to be different. A drug that is rather common for someone to be exposed to from an early age is
cocaine. Cocaine is classified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then the coca paste is dissolved in a small amount of dilute sulfuric acid and potassium permanganate
is added (How Cocaine Is Made. (n.d.).
When cocaine is in this form it is most often snorted or mixed with water and injected into the blood
stream. The high people get from cocaine use does not last very long, which is what causes them to
binge use, and why addiction can be caused so quickly. The user is constantly chasing that initial high
and wanting it to last longer. Cocaine is a strong central nervous system stimulant that increases levels
of the neurotransmitter dopamine in brain circuits regulating pleasure and movement (Cocaine (2013,
April). It can also cause bursts of energy, talkativeness, increased heart rate and blood pressure, dilated
pupils, and increased body temperature. The most serious side effect can be death if the manufacturing
process was not done correctly.
Learning theory is probably the best explanation as to why one would chose to use cocaine. Cocaine
produces a high that can be rewarding because of the euphoria it produces. When the high wears off
the user experiences a crash and wants the high back. They have learned through continued use that in
order to get the euphoric feeling they must continue to use the drug. Although chemicals such as
cocaine might initially have been used for social reasons, the substances ability to provide

Goffman s Contributions On The Theory Of Social Stigma
I have chosen to examine Irving Goffman s contributions to the theory of social stigma, specifically
through the perspectives presented in Stigma: Notes on the Management of Spoiled Identity. My
analysis of this work leads me to imagine communication as a mask, possessing the ability to shield
the wearer s actual social identity from observers.
This metaphor has utility because it provides a concrete way to conceptualize a portion of the complex
web of presentation and interpretations that accompany communicative interaction with an individual
who is perceived to have an attribute that positions them as significantly other. When I originally
proposed communication as a mask, I was envisioning the mask as noise designed to act as a barrier to
communication. However, once I became aware of Goffman s work, I realized that this particular
conception of communication provides specific advantages for the stigmatized in a way that
acknowledges the constant vigilance and level of effort that a stigmatized individual must put forth in
order to engage with a normal without revealing their attribute. Thus, I have chosen this perspective
because it disturbed my default understanding of communication as an exchange between two
normals. It may enable those who use it to develop insight into the experiences of those who perceive
communicative interactions differently then themselves.
Goffman s Presentation of the Self in Everyday Life (2007) considers even the most mundane

Curriculum Reflection Ste. Genevieve R II school district is located in Southeast Missouri. The
district s mission statement is Working Together to Create Success at Ste. Genevieve and Beyond. One
of the most successful ways that the Ste. Genevieve faculty collaborates together concerns their
method of curriculum development, alignment, and revision. This reflection assignment will examine
the curriculum process of Ste. Genevieve R II. The following items will be addressed within this
analysis: the definition of curriculum, the district s formal/informal/hidden curriculum, the district s
curriculum leadership, the impact of Missouri Standards on the district, the district s current plan for

Ste. Genevieve R II has all three forms of curriculum. The formal curriculum is composed of various
documents saved to Google Drive. Information used to achieve this formal curriculum includes the
following documents: the Missouri Learning Standards for the departments, the Missouri Learning
Standards Crosswalk showing standards and alignment, the Missouri Learning Standards Terminology
for various departments, curriculum checklists, information about backward design, pacing guides,
unit/lesson plan documents, and assessments. The informal curriculum is present at Ste. Genevieve R
II, but it is not in documented form. The values of the teachers creating the curriculum play a role in
its development and implementation. Each teacher brings their own style into the classroom; as a
result, the curriculum is followed, but it is followed in different ways as teachers place their individual
teaching style into their instruction. For example, when teaching skills about literary theme, one
teacher might include a specific piece of literature based on student interest. Another teacher might not
include the same piece of literature, but the concept of theme will still be an aspect of their lessons.
Another example might be in regards to teaching other kinds of lessons that are

Outstretch your arms as you zip from one room to the next with a tablecloth fastened around your
neck in nothing else other than your underwear. We were all that kid pretending to be a superhero at

can be something that others aspire to be. We don t have to be aliens with hopes of galactic peace, rich
men with amazing gadgetry, or ring wielding bad asses. We can be teachers, firefighters, police, or my

Clark Kent had to work hard to get where he is at the Daily Planet and to not reveal his secret identity.
I might not have a secret identity or any of that but I have worked hard to receive the quality of
education I want to possess in the future. Growing up my mom worked two jobs not making more
than a combined $30,000 with us four and herself. During high school my mom struggled with
keeping up on the bills so both my brother and I both had jobs by the time we were 16. After my
brother left to college I worked 25 30 hours a week just to help while maintaining all my
extracurricular activities like football practice and other clubs. Now in college, I ve had to take out
loans since I m an out of state financial aid recipient just to get all my course materials such as books,
supplies, and monthly passes so I can get back and forth to school, work, and home. Since my mother
doesn t have much or any to give due to her financial state and lives in another state I rent my own
place so most of my money from work goes to the $700 I pay to rent and utilities. So through
scholarships I hope to pay off future amounts at which I cannot and hopefully any extra money can go
to repaying off the loans I ve previously taken out. I hope to be debt free before going for my bachelor

The True Human Condition In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness
The True Human Condition Individuals are constantly saying that the human condition is the pursuit
of happiness. The true human condition is continual fear, and yet most people will choose not to
believe this truth. In Joseph Conrad s novel Heart of Darkness, the narrator listens as Marlow
describes an experience he had while traveling through Africa and how it changed his perception of
life s meaning. The efforts to colonize and capitalize Africa and exploit its resources had a lasting
impact on Marlow. His contact with African natives, his inspirational hero Kurtz, and his return to a
civilized environment all wrought great change in Marlow s perceptions of reality. The first of Marlow

The Mist Review
The apocalypse is a common subject addressed in films and such Doomsday scenarios have become
increasingly popular since the beginning of the Cold War. These films provide a different cause for the
downfall of human kind and approach the subject with various degrees of despair and hope. Despite
the obvious differences in approach that different directors take, these films all serve to highlight not
only the negative qualities of human kind that led to and are represented by the agent of destruction
but also to highlight the strength of the survivors who keep the will to fight for their lives despite the
bleak circumstances. For the most part, The Mist, adapted from a Stephen King novella, sticks closely
to the archetype. The Mist, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The subtle score of Mark Isham is utilized infrequently, magnifying its effect on the particular scenes
it is present in. In one of the most suspenseful scenes, a volunteer ties a rope around his waist and
ventures into the unknown. Darabont stays fixed in the store and lets the pull on the rope tell the story,
creating great suspense. When the monsters do reveal themselves, the CGI work is seamless and
properly horrifying. The question of where they come from or why they have come is never addressed
even in the slightest. Darabont s focus is always squarely on the humans, who quickly splinter into
competing factions reflecting their own racial, class and educational prejudices. The Mist is as
misanthropic as it can get. As most good monster movies, this movie is not about the monsters. The
monsters are simply primal fears materialized. The main focus is really the human reaction to the
threat. The mist works as a fog of fear, and the store becomes a sample of most kinds of humans from
highly educated to low level working class. The fog becomes the unknown which is unknown to all
walks of life. The Mist shows human nature at it worst in a crisis. Xenophobia of the out of towners ,
disbelief, lack of faith, egotism, paranoia, fundamentalism, bias, an us versus them

Wage Inequality And Sex Work
Within various schools of feminist thought, wage inequality and sex work are often prime focuses.
Wage inequality, or the gender pay gap, is generally discussed as a broad problem affecting all
women. However, this broad approach often leaves out marginalized women, such as women of color,
poor women, trans women, queer women, and immigrant women, who experience wage inequality at
disproportionately higher rates than women who are not marginalized in these ways. The same lack of
intersectional focus colors discussions of sex work, which typically promote a victim/empowered
woman dichotomy that fails to account for the nuanced factors in place affecting women of color,
trans women, and immigrant women. While it is important that feminist ... Show more content on

This paper will refer to both domestic labor and women s labor in similar respects, but the two are not
necessarily interchangeable. The use of the phrase domestic labor refers to work done within the
home, particularly childcare, elderly care, and the upkeep of the household. The term women s work
or women s labor encompasses domestic labor, but not all women s labor is necessarily domestic. In
her chapter Industrialization, Wage Labor, and the Economic Gender Gap , Estelle Freedman describes
historically feminized fields of work that include other types of labor, such as industrial work in textile
mills, retail, clerical, and teaching jobs. When referring to sex work, Laura Agustin uses the term in
Migrants in the Mistress s House to encompass everything from prostitution, sexual services in bars,
clubs, and flats, erotic phone sex, peep shows, massage parlors, and lap dancing (110). However, she
often does not differentiate between sex work and domestic work because migrants often move
between these sectors or work in two at once, and because a separation into two groups reproduces a
scheme of good versus bad girls (97). For the sake of clarity, however, this paper will differentiate
between traditional women s labor

The Advanced High Tech Brings The Dramatic Change For The...
The advanced high tech brings the dramatic change for the communications media, which can be first
symbolized by the invention of the video tape recorder by the Ampex Company. Then the
communications satellites have largely shortened the world distance. The Canadian scholar Marshall
Mcluhan sees the vision of the world village . However, some scholars question about the concept of
globalization , thinking the various influential factors such as politics, economy and culture will cause
an ideal or theoretical case of the globalization . Owing to the complex factors of geographic,
language, culture tradition and some realistic reasons, the regionalization is more likely to happen. @
The author of this paper holds that the tendency of the regionalization and globalization exist at the
same time. Canada which relies on English to communicate, keeps a special relationship with the
America and stays at the active economic position in western countries has achieved great success
with the help of America and other nations in its globalization oriented culture products, though it also
faces various challenges to protect its specific culture features. Firstly, this paper is to introduce what
the specific Canadian content rules are. Second, this paper attempts to analyze the reasons for
implementing such rules in Canada. Third, through analyzing the Canadian content rules, this paper
aims to further explore its utility and value for the television.

  • 2. Explain Why Students Should Not Be Allowed To Have Cell... Failure to pay attention. Lack of honesty. Poor grades. These are some outcomes of allowing cellphones in class. Eight ball or word cookies may end up causing you to fail or miss an assignment. Students should not be allowed to have and use their cellphones because of inequality, distractions, and dishonesty. To begin with, students should not be allowed to have cell phones in class due to inequality. Even though most students have cell phones, some do not. Students may be embarrassed if they don t have a cell phone like all the other students. Another reason why inequality is an issue because of the lack of power sources. Not all classrooms provide outlets or have enough outlets for everyone to use. Everyone charging their phones at the same time or looking for an outlet at the same time would be chaos. Secondly, distractions are a big ordeal in class. Cell phones are a problem due to sounds and ringtones because they can cause a distraction during a lesson. Maybe in the middle of a test and all of a sudden a ding or a ring goes off. You get all sidetracked and then lose track of what you were thinking of or what the answer was. You may be tempted to want to play 8 ball or word cookies. In the middle of the game the teacher ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Allowing students to have their cell phones out can allow them to be able to go on the internet and look up answers to a test or class work. They could text another student and ask them for answers. Also, allowing students to have cell phones in class, can make a chance for cyber bullying to happen. A student that may not be friends with another classmate could capture an embarrassing moment for the student and post it to allow all of his friends to see it. Students could video or take pictures of a teacher during class which could get the teacher in trouble. Allowing cellphones in class will more than likely just cause lying and ... • 3. Kaleidoscope Eyes Analysis Internal Comments: No. While the idea that we choose to see the world either optimistically and pessimistically is beautifully expressed throughout the poem, it comes across as trite in parts. The main idea of the poem is not completely developed instead, the author spends too much time on unnecessary side characters. In addition, there are several errors in terms of grammar as well as imprecise word choice. To the First Reader: Dear Denee Freeman, thank you for your commentary on submission 10405 ( Kaleidoscope Eyes ). All of your comments are formatted correctly, and I particularly appreciate your depth on your specific comments. In terms of things to work on, I would recommend being more gentle in your wording. A question posed with language ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author does this by presenting a variety of snapshots of people with this grey world view, lingering on the last snapshot of the family, to expand on the kaleidoscope view of the children. You re obviously aware of how language impacts mood, and do a nice job choosing their words. I wished this poem had more showing, instead of telling, such as with the failed marriage and the will to continue living. I think more specificity in your images, would eliminate both some of the moments where the poem borders on cliche as well as the moments that distance the reader from the snapshots. Personal details with make the poem stronger, and feel like the reader is in your snapshot scenes. The second note for revision I have for this poem is to think about the form. Right now the form isn t particularly helping you, and in some places with the uneven spacing and unnecessary stanza breaks, it actively hurts your poem. I would consider fewer stanzas personally. I wonder even about having a very regimented line, stanza, or even a syllabic pattern, except for those lines speaking about kaleidoscope eyes. • 4. Evaluation Of A Student Outcomes Part two: Summary of student outcomes The evaluation of the students work was conducted with the end of year exams in mind. In particular, I wanted to provide feedback and forward to the students that was targeted towards their essay writing in the exams at the end of the year. I grouped results from what grades the students gained against the marking schedule that I developed. Bearing in mind that the sample size was small, most students attained the merit grade, with the same amount of students being either side of the merit grade with three respectively. This indicates that the work that is being achieved is at an above average level, highlighted by no one failing the assessment. The evidence also suggests that the students are on the way to excellence. With the feed forward being provided there should be a number of those students who should be attaining excellences in that class at the end of year mock exams. In terms of the specific feedback forward itself. There were common trends that came through for each grade. Figure two, outlines some common themes that came across for each student attaining those grades. For the achieved level the, students were identifying the causes and consequences. The feedforward for those students is that if they want to attain merits and excellences they need to be giving more specific detail to accompany their causes and consequences. What that indicates is that I need to provide to those students a wider range of examples to allow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was approximately 7.8 earthquake. The earthquake had hit buildings, schools, streets and houses. Killing hundreds of people and injuring thousands. This earthquake began at an opera house and ended up all throughout the streets in San Francisco. The Great San Francisco Earthquake may be studied by examining the earthquake, the spread of fire, and the aftermath of the worst natural disasters. The night before the quake it was an average typical night in the windy city of San Francisco. World famous opera singer, Enrico Caruso was performing at the city s Grand Opera House. The music had filled the building up with his beautiful singing. Enrico s voice was like a thunderbolt which seemed to be rocking the Opera House. • 6. What Was The Role Of Women In Nineteenth-Century England Introduction A conflict stirred among the sexes during the nineteenth century that reverberated through all aspects of life from science to literature. The advent of the Industrial Revolution in the late 1700s and the introduction of capitalism sparked the discussion on the nature and role of women as society shifted from a land centered economy to an urban workforce. This argument gained such notoriety it commonly became known as The Woman Question, and it covered aspects of the legal and political rights of women, education, and economic opportunities. Such was the discussion that scientists, philosophers, and biologists like Charles Darwin, Herbert Spencer, and Patrick Geddes entered the debate with each offering ideas on the role women ... In this book, he discusses topics ranging from human evolution, as in his On the Origin of Species, to the differences between the sexes. The latter topic being the most prominent in the discussion on The Woman Question and what roles women were to occupy. British philosopher Herbert Spencer suggested everyone had basic rights, including women, and that these rights were necessary for social progress and those basic rights fell in with cooperation among the sexes rather than competition (Sweet). Similarly, Patrick Geddes, a Scottish biologist and follower of Spencer, theorized that male and female characteristics were complementary and must be kept in balance. His views supported, to some degree, the separation of men and women into separate spheres not because the sexes were unequal but because they were and needed ways in which to express their strengths. • 7. The Great Hunger And The Irish Potato Famine Intro The Great Hunger, Great Famine, the dreaded calamity, or if your outside of Ireland the Irish Potato Famine. Occurring between 1847 1852, the famine claimed the lives of around one million people and caused millions to flee Ireland, in order to escape the bleak situation it was. Today I will be giving some background of life in Ireland before the famine started of the average citizen, I will briefly discuss the pathogen that killed the potato crop, the government response to the famine, the overall consequences and reactions of the Irish people, and finally I will discuss the ethical dilemmas that the famine raise. Slide one Land Ownership Starting off I would like to explain what life was like for the average Irish citizen in the mid 19th century. Most people were tenant agriculture farmers who worked for landlords, who owned vast estates, but a great deal of them didn t, in fact, live in Ireland, which lead to them being commonly referred to as absentee landlords. The landlords allotted workers small plots of land to grow their own food in exchange for working the land growing grain cash crops. In order to sustain a high calorie diet for themselves and their families, most of these tenant farmers grew potatoes. This was primarily due to the fact you get a lot of bang for your buck from potatoes as they yielded quite a bit of calories per acre. Outside of what the tenants ate, Ireland produced quite a bit of food but this was mostly exported to England where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Carlotta Character Traits Characterization: Christine This adaptation portrays Christine as ditzy, but not stupid. She has no idea that Raoul has fallen in love with her and sees him only as a friend. She is pretty, naive, and nice (mostly, however, very protective over her solos) which makes for a bad combination. She doesn t fully understand the power she holds over the other characters. For example, if she had told Raoul to go away, he probably would have. She really moves the story forward as it revolves around her actions and reactions to events. Her overall motivation consists of furthering her singing career and finding love with someone who allows her to have her freedom. It draws the audience in through more moving songs, such as Think of Me. The dialogue has an overarching modern quality to it, as opposed to the more formal version in the stage and movie adaptations. The main trio (Phantom, Christine, and Raoul) talk about going to Red Robin, as one example. They also throw in modern allusions to literature and film (singing machine from Shrek), as well as Christine using her phone during the roof scene. These changes make it easier for the audience to connect and find humor within the story. Similar speech patterns follow the characters throughout the story. Phantom commands and bosses the other characters, which fits his character profile within the One Act. Raoul has a more scattered and foolish mind. Carlotta uses the most unfamiliar words, such as ingenue, which denoted a young female character who has endearing innocence or naivety (Christine). Gastrocnemius Muscle Essay Discussion Gastrocnemius Muscle vs Sciatic Nerve Threshold and Maximum Voltage Stimulation (Direct vs Indirect stimulation) The gastrocnemius muscle which consists of bundles of myofibrils continuously contract and initiate a motor unit recruitment which makes it easier to increase from the threshold to the maximum voltage via the sciatic nerve from 75.4 grams to 184 grams. When there was already such a high threshold it was easy to reach a maximum with an increase in only .8 volts. In contrast, the direct stimulation of the muscle has a physical limitation to the region that is innervated by the current thus it seems that it takes a lot more voltage to reach a maximum voltage. This just indicated that it is important to double check all lab equipment to avoid researcher error. It seems that both the direct vs indirect experiment and the frequency experiment indicated the importance of the Henneman s principle of motor recruitment. Last but not least, tubocurare seemed to behave like a classic competitive inhibitor where there seemed to be a point where it was not as effective at competing for the acetylcholine receptors, and thus resulted in an decrease in the rate of how much tubocurare was taken up as seen in figure 4. The evidence given by Robert Owen, a mill owner, clearly indicates his strong views on the damage being done to young children s physical and mental health, including deformed limbs, stunted growth and being very slow academic learners. Sir Robert Peel Senior based his evidence on well known opinion, stating that children of 8 or 9 years of age who were confined in the factories for not less than 15 hours a day could not bear that degree of hardship without damaging their health. The views of Lord Lascelles, Mr. Finlay and GA Lee showed little concern for the children s health their extracts confirm the basic economic need of the children to work and the factories to employ them. They agreed that legislation was not necessary. Lord Lascelles was more concerned with the interference of the principle of free labour and that more legislative measures would follow. There are numerous effective leadership styles used in the organization to achieve their goals. Leadership is becoming increasingly recognized as a crucial issue for organizations facing change in a complex and volatile environment. (Higgs 2009, p. 165) The leader is the person who can guide and inspire others to do things according to their needs with the success of the group as a goal. Leadership may be considered as the process of influencing the activities of an organized group in its efforts toward goal setting and goal achievement. (Stogdill 1950, p. 3) If the team led by powerful leader, it is most likely that the team will be able to meet the goals as well as their purpose and success. You simply come up with an obtainable goal and then you work hard to make it a reality. To begin with I give myself short term and long term goals to achieve. Before I joined the Army my short term goal was to achieve the rank of Sergeant (E 5). My next short term goal wasn t to just achieve the next rank of Staff Sergeant (E 6) I wanted to aim a little higher and make Sergeant First Class (E 7) within eight years, which I did. My long term goal was to ultimately make it to the rank of Sergeant major (E 9). This goal is going to be harder to achieve, but I know as long as I work hard I will achieve that goal. Goals are great, but without follow through these goals will never come to fruition. By breaking down goals into smaller goals a person will gain confidence and can eventually turn those small term goals in long term goals. I knew that I could not just jump to Sergeant Major and that s why I set small short term goals to achieve that rank. What is going to make me successful not only in my career, but also in my everyday life is accomplishing one short term goal at a time. To obtain a Goal it requires steps or processes to achieve the desired outcome which, according to Tim Harford, includes failure. In Tim Harford s book Adapt he accepts that in the path to success don t be afraid to fail in the process. The consequence of disappointment makes versatility, which is a key ... • 18. Injustice In Roman Polanski s The Pianist Jewish author Elie Wiesel once said There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest. Roman Polanski s The Pianist successfully portrays this idea as he tells the story of Wladyslaw Szpilman, a Polish piano player who spends five years struggling against Nazi Germany s invasion of Warsaw, Poland during World War II. Although Szpilman and his family were incapable of preventing the injustice from happening around them, they certainly did not fail to protest it against all odds. Filled with significant scenes that capture the cruel behavior of the Nazis, The Pianist presents the theme of man s inhumanity towards one another at a time where pain is inevitable and hardships must be endured. Under the sheer persuasiveness of Adolf Hitler, the Jews were being denounced and controlled by Germany s police forces. Being a Jewish man himself, Polanski was able to depict the story with dark, acid humor and a callous objectivity that embodied both cynicism and compassion. In order to establish this thought throughout the film, Polanski uses techniques including mise en scene and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 19. Columbine And Misconceptions Columbine by Dave Cullen tells the events that unfolded on April 20th, 1999. That day, two boys, self proclaimed rebels, armed themselves and proceeded to murder the same students they had walked the halls with for four years. As the stories of Dylan, Eric, and the victims of this tragic day came to light, many falsehoods also arose. Unfortunately, the myths and truths about Columbine still linger with us today. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold left a lasting impression on the world; but left behind the truth as to why they really did it. This leaves us to wonder what really happened on that fateful day. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold changed the way schools handle threat precautions. The secrets they left us; the boys being outcasts, bullies, and the trench coat mafia, leave us with a horrible tragedy to deal with. Which are just some of the proven myths in the shooting of Columbine. The first myth about Columbine is that Eric and Dylan were outcasts. In fact, they boys acted like normal people. They attended school events and talked to people like normal human beings. They blended in with the rest of the school, which didn t strike an alarm that soon enough these boys would be a part of a terrible shooting. Although people were wrong about the boys being outcasts, they were right that something was wrong in their head. Unfortunately, they spotted this too late, Eric and Dylan thought they were better than everyone else. While the rest of the world thought they were a little ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. The Dilemmas Of Public Education And Public School... The greatly discussed dilemma of having a child be taught in a public school setting versus a homeschool setting has been evaluated by parents since the idea was first introduced in the 1970 s. Public schooling had been the standard method of teaching since it is a requirement for states to provide public, free education for children in grades K 12. However, the backlash against the system began when two educational theorists and supporters of school reform, John Holt and Raymond Moore, started to question both the techniques and the products of public schools. Some parents went on to support the ideas of them and began to teach their children in the environment of their own homes for several different reasons. Some included moral or religious reasons, a desire for high educational achievement, dissatisfaction with public schools instructional program, or concerns about drugs and peer pressure in a public school environment. Child development specialists believe that homeschooled children are isolated from the outside world, therefore making them socially handicapped. If being exposed to this type of education on an elementary school level, the child can suffer from the lack of fundamental development of effective social skills needed for a lifetime ahead of them. It is believed that by restricting children from the real world and its many problems through home schooling, they may never get the chance to learn both life lessons and social interaction skills on their own ... Cause And Effect Of Bullying The Effects of Bullying Nerd, ugly, stupid, creep, loser: these are just a few of the hurtful words that school bullies and other students direct towards their excluded, vulnerable peers in schools around the U.S. Bullying is a familiar word often heard in schools, workplaces and now on the internet. It can occur in the form of physical, mental or emotional abuse. In general, bullying has been perceived as aggressive behavior that is intentional, harassment, and an imbalance of power with the result of inflicting pain or discomfort on others ( Bullying ). Thousands of children in the United States are affected every day by bullying. This kind of behavior is detrimental to all involved and should not be allowed in any school system as it can quickly affect an individual beyond anyone s imagination. In some cases, bullying can undermine the self esteem of the victims which can force them to take extreme measures dangerous to them and others. The experience of school bullying can end up causing enduring damage to both victims and bullies. The effects of school bullying include decreased academic achievement, depression and anxiety and high risk of self destructive behaviors. According to a study done by Gary Ladd, a psychology professor at Arizona State University, 24 percent of children in the study suffered chronic bullying throughout their school years, which was related to lower academic performance and less engagement in school. • 22. The Second Treatise Of Government By John Locke Justice with Michael Sandle Episode 04 For most of human history people have been debating what is the appropriate nature of the relationship between the individual and society. Starting with the ancient Greek, most people thought that individuals should be subordinate to society. In the publication The Second Treatise of Government, John Locke was the first to promote individualism over society. Though his ideas were considered as liberal, now are embraced by many conservative. John Locke s ideas are the basis of the American government and so it is important to keep America s nature; the rights of life, liberty to own property, and the pursuit of happiness; at heart when creating laws. In Locke s second treatise of government, John Locke described that to understand the rights of individuals and role of government, one must starts with a consideration of men in a state of nature. In a state of nature where everyone is equal and free, everyone could do anything as long as they followed the law of nature. In the law of nature everyone had a right to self preservation, and it is against the law of nature to impose that right. Due to the fact that there is no such thing as private property in nature or the bible, John Locke uses the right to self preservation to justify the existence of private property. It is clear to lock that individuals came before society in the state of nature, therefore individuals are more important than any social order. In the state of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Goffman s Contributions On The Theory Of Social Stigma I have chosen to examine Irving Goffman s contributions to the theory of social stigma, specifically through the perspectives presented in Stigma: Notes on the Management of Spoiled Identity. My analysis of this work leads me to imagine communication as a mask, possessing the ability to shield the wearer s actual social identity from observers. This metaphor has utility because it provides a concrete way to conceptualize a portion of the complex web of presentation and interpretations that accompany communicative interaction with an individual who is perceived to have an attribute that positions them as significantly other. When I originally proposed communication as a mask, I was envisioning the mask as noise designed to act as a barrier to communication. However, once I became aware of Goffman s work, I realized that this particular conception of communication provides specific advantages for the stigmatized in a way that acknowledges the constant vigilance and level of effort that a stigmatized individual must put forth in order to engage with a normal without revealing their attribute. Thus, I have chosen this perspective because it disturbed my default understanding of communication as an exchange between two normals. It may enable those who use it to develop insight into the experiences of those who perceive communicative interactions differently then themselves.
