1. The document discusses Christina Rossetti's sonnet "A Triad" and how it expresses her negative feelings about the social restrictions placed on women during her time in the 1800s.
2. In the poem, Rossetti illustrates three different types of women - a married woman lacking love, an "ideal" woman, and a promiscuous woman. Through these characters and her symbolic language, she conveys her views on the strict image and expectations for women's behavior.
3. The sonnet allowed Rossetti to release her constrained emotions about society's labeling and lack of freedom and variety for women through her artistic writing.

The document discusses how Shakespeare uses devices like reflections of chaos in the natural environment and supernatural elements to convey the confusion in the plot of King Lear. It gives examples of how the unnatural behavior of characters like Lear and Gloucester is mirrored in unnatural storms and animal imagery. This reflects the breakdown of the natural order and "bias of nature" as the kingdom crumbles due to betrayal and corruption.

3. Violin History
The Violin Throughout the development of western art music many different instruments have come
to frequently be used (Dougan, 440). One such instrument is the violin (Dougan, 440). The violin is
one of the most versatile instruments used in western music today (Dougan, 441). Its unique sound
help to inspire the development of the orchestra and can often evoke powerful feelings in any listener
(Cao et al. 662). These are just a few of the reasons the violin has played a significant role in the
development of Western Art Music ( The Violin Site: Resources for Violinist 2). The first topic of

Niccolo Paganini is considered to be the father of virtuoso in the 19th century (Shipps, 38). He was
one of the greatest violinist of history and went on far reaching concert tours for many years (Shipps,
38). Paganini was also was the composer of 24 Caprices (Shipps, 38). The more adventurous style of
his works were not as conservative as some other composers may have liked, but were popular with
the public (Shipps, 38).
This new modern style of violin music was carried on by Giovanni Battista Viotti (Shipps, 38). He is
considered the father of modern violin playing (Shipps, 38). Viotti founded the French school of violin
where he along with Tourte, invented the modern bow (Shipps, 40). His own Concerto No. 23 was a
favorite of many great violinist throughout history (Shipps, 40). Viotti s students changed the technical
world of playing for all violinist from that day on (Shipps, 40).
Another violinist whose technical alterations changed playing for all violinists in the future was Louis
Spohr (Shipps, 40). He was known as a violinist, conductor, teacher, and composer (Shipps, 40). He is
most remembered for his invention of the chinrest (Shipps, 40). His style of playing was very old
fashioned and conservative (Shipps, 40). Sphor also wrote Violinschule which became a well know

4. The Education System in Saudi Arabi
The education system in Saudi Arabia
Education in Saudi Arabia is segregated by sex and divided into three separately administered
systems: general education for boys, education for girls and traditional Islamic education (for boys).
The Ministry of Education, established in 1952, presides over general education for boys, and
education for girls comes under the jurisdiction of the General Presidency for Girls Education. Both
sexes follow the same curriculum and take the same annual examinations.
Islamic education trains Saudi boys to become members of the Ulema (religious clergy). The religious
secondary school curriculum includes the general academic secondary school curriculum but focuses
primarily on Islamic and Arabic studies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

5. Student Retention Is A Growing Problem
Many colleges and universities throughout the United States and several other countries face a
common problem. Student retention is a growing problem across the nation for all ethnic groups and
all ages. Each individual who chooses to drop out of school has their own personal reasons as to why
they do. However, many drops out can be completely avoided. When students drop out they are not
clearly thinking about how it s going to affect their future, the future of their children and even
grandchildren. Although there are several reasons as to why students drop out of school, we will be
exploring a few as it relates to why student retention is a growing problem.
Transitioning into higher education presents challenges for all students, whether it s their age or
previous educational history. Numerous individuals are extremely nervous as they are entering into an
advanced environment such as higher education. This because college is a new learning environment
at a completely different level. However, freshmen find college to be difficult at first because it s
harder for them to adjust. That s why many universities should have student centers in place to help
students. Student centers give students the pathway for flexible learning as it results in being
successful in higher education (Baužienė Vosyliūtė 2015).
Lin and Tsai (2008) used a quantitative approach to understanding student retention; however, they
used their research to understand students loyalty. As fast as

6. Luban s Critique Of Walzer Conception Of Legitimacy
In this paper, I will argue that Luban s critique of Walzer conception of legitimacy is misguided. I will
first present Walzer s argument for interventions using the legalist paradigm, in particular his
conception of self determination and how the principle of non intervention may be set aside in
exceptional circumstances. I will then present Luban s critique of Walzer and his argument for
developing an account of Just War directly in terms of human rights, before concluding with my own
critique of Luban s argument.
To begin, it will be useful to outline the legalist paradigm, as Walzer conceives it. This paradigm refers
to six propositions:
There exists an international society of independent states
2. This international society has a law that establishes the rights of its members above all, the rights of
territorial integrity and political sovereignty.
3. Any use of force or imminent threat of force by one state against the political sovereignty or
territorial integrity of another constitutes aggression and is a criminal act.
4. Aggression justifies two kinds of violent response: a war of self defense by the victim and a war of
law enforcement by the victim and any other member of international society.
5. Nothing but aggression can justify war.
6. Once the aggressor state has been militarily repulsed, it can also be punished.
What all these propositions seek to uphold is the sovereignty of states and their ability to self
determine their own futures. Aggression is

7. Maintain Homeostasis
Homeostasis is the process of maintaining and regulating the body s own internal condition and is
extremely critical for proper body function; without it we could die. To maintain homeostasis, our
body has created a system of positive and negative feedback loops that are controlled in the brain
(specifically the hypothalamus in most mammals). This occurs when the product or output of
something, like ion concentration, blood calcium or glucose levels, change in response to the body
telling itself there s too little or too much of it. A positive feedback loop will increase the output, or
product, as a result of an amplified reaction to make it happen faster. A negative feedback loop, on the
other hand, is the reduction of a product to lower it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is done to regulate the onset of hypertrophic chondrocytes. First, the process starts off when the
cranial neural cells proliferate and condense to make nodules in response to bone morphogenic protein
(BMP) signals from the head epidermis. High levels of BMPs will make cartilage from the nodules.
Low levels of BMP will produce pre osteoblast progenitor cells that express the Runx2 transcription
factor and mRNA for collagens 2 and 4. These cells will eventually downregulate Runx2 and begin
expressing the osteopontin gene making it look like a cartilage cell, hence the name chondrocyte like
osteoblast. IHH and PTHrP will start receiving negative feedback signals telling them to stop
chondrocyte differentiation. PTHrP, which is secreted from perichondrial cells and chondrocytes at the
end of long bones, acts on receptors of the chondrocyte to keep them proliferating and delay the
production of IHH. IHH is in charge of coordinating endochondral bone growth. IHH will induce
patch and Gli proteins to then initiate synthesis of PTHrP, which will block the recruitment of more
chondrocytes and reducing bone

11. Picasso Vs Goya
Pablo Picasso and Francisco José de Goya were two artists that lived in completely different time
periods and painted in very different styles. Goya painted frescos and court paintings while picasso
dabbled in cubism and surrealism. However, like most artists, they both went through many changes
and transitions throughout their lives as painters, and their desire to think outside the box and
experiment with techniques that had never been used before reveal similarities in their work that may
go unnoticed at first glance. When looking at the works of Goya and Picasso, one would be much
more likely to point out differences than similarities. Goya did a lot of frescos and court paintings.

Not only were they both considered modern artists, their work also took a rather unexpected turn
towards the end of their careers. Goya is considered the father of modern art. He took risks in his
paintings and decided not to paint in the classical style of the old masters from earlier centuries, and
Picasso also took many risks and painted in a very modern style. Picasso was even inspired by Goya s
work, and his painting, Massacre in Korea, was inspired by Goya s The Third of May. Not only did
they both experiment in their paintings, these artists also both went through a rough period in their
lives that had a big effect in their style of painting. Picasso s blue period reflected his sadness after his
friend s death, and all of his paintings during this time used blue and other muted colors. Goya s black
paintings, a series of fourteen pieces from his last years of life, also reflected a negative change in his
life. These paintings were much darker and more depressing than his older paintings. The disturbing
images in these paintings are thought to have been evoked from his fear of insanity and bleak outlook

Mingqi
For this first paper assignment I have chosen to write my essay on The Funerary Model of a Pig Sty.
This artwork takes place in Ancient China around c. 2nd century BCE. It was designed and used
within the Han Dynasty early in China s history. These clay models like the pig sty and other burial
goods had a hand in furthering the development of Chinas cultural heritage and beliefs. Within this
paper I will be discussing my chosen MIA artwork, works that are similar but different to this artwork,
and also how all three works, although all different, have the same purpose for what they have been
made for. Then finally touching on how the context of the piece can change based on its surroundings.

(MIA) The roofs are separated into four sections on both rooftops. On the square latrine roofs there are
four triangles. While on the rectangular latrine there are two triangles and two trapezoids for the
rooftops shape. I find that this adds to the depth of the roof giving this piece great detail. One can see
this not just in the structure, but also in the details of the animals found in the pigsty model. For
starters when looking around there are seven animals total. They are a boar or male pig, a dog, a sow
who is feeding her three young piglets, and finally a bird. (MIA) In this particular model each animal
is found doing something known for what that animal does in real life. For example the boar is outside
the pen eating slop by himself out of a bowl. While the dog is above the boar on the walkway lazily
sleeping his day away in what could be the hot sun. As one moves along within the piece and looks
inside the pen one can see a sow that is really doing the most work in this model for she is feeding her
three young piglets right in the middle of the pen. This is okay because her and the piglets are the only
four in the pen causing a feeling of calm to the person looking at the work. Finally we move our eyes
up and see a nest with a bird in it. This bird seems to be stretching his wings or cleaning them minding
its own business. All these individual details make up one

Information from IW, which has passed through the ETL process before it goes to the end users. 2.)
Information from independent data sources, which is processed by different standards. This is counter

I thought carefully of someone I wanted to write about. I decided on a woman who had a great part in
helping me through many tough times and helping me find my way to a God of my understanding.
Her name is Joyce Meyer and she is a Christian author and speaker from St. Louis, Missouri. She is
married, has four children, and is President of Joyce Meyer Ministries. I found her book in a store one
day and from there on I became more and more interested in what she had to say. At the time I first

Using personal stories almost ensures the audience s interest. Everyone likes to hear a good story
(p.269). Throughout her speeches, Joyce speaks of struggles she had gone through and those same
struggles are common to so many Christians, either many had faced them or were going through them
at that very moment she was describing them on stage.
Her ability to show that she is an equal by putting Biblical language into every day, common language
makes many people feel a bit more sense of belonging (P.69). Her demeanor and attitude is one of
friendliness and smiles. There is a sense of ease and comfort as if one were listening to a friend talk.
Her ability to not speak from a spiritual mountaintop unites people who know nothing about the Bible
to listen and comprehend as well as the person who has gone to Sunday school their entire lives. It

Joyce describes her own feelings rather than evaluating others (P68). When she discusses a problem or
hardship, she takes ownership of an issue by using I statements frequently rather than accusatory you
statements. This avoids a defensive reaction from the audience. As our text states, no one likes to be
judged or evaluated. This approach leads to greater openness and trust because the listener is less
likely to feel rejected or as if the speaker is trying to control him or her (P.68)

19. Snyder s 300 Hyperbole
Film is a source of entertainment for thousands of people, however it can also be seen as modern
poetry. Two examples of poetry in film is Snyder s 300 (2006) and Weir s Gallipoli (1981),
Both films have a theme of War one that glorifies it and the other denounces it. Despite the films being
different in genre and mood, both films have strong poetic devices such as hyperbole, symbolism and
repetition.
During Snyder s 300 many forms of hyperbole were used to portray the Glory of War which is the
main theme for the film. An example of hyperbole, which is noticeable throughout the entire film, is
the enhanced colouring to make the figures and scenes appear like a graphic novel. This is because the
original story line was based on Frank Millar s 300 graphic novel series. The end half of the movie
used exaggerated features more often, from the beast like features on Persia s fighters to Leonidas war
cry nearing the end of the final battle. The directors have used this poetic device to create a stronger
sense of emotion for the film.
Weir s Gallipoli had less hyperbole than Snyder s 300, however still used many of the basic aspects to
make the film a form of poetry. When hyperbole was used in the film is was usually before the main
character Archie started running where he was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

20. Macromolecules In Biology
When someone thinks about life , he or she may think of humans, animals, plants, or anything that
may breathe. From a biological perspective, life is not only made from breathing. Life is created from
many different levels that when all comes to end, makes the biosphere. From smallest to largest, the
Hierarchy of Structural Organization will be explained. Atoms are the smallest particle that is still
considered an element. Atoms are composed of subatomic particles, which include electrons, protons,
and neutrons. At the chemical level, atoms are combined together which make molecules. The human
body contains four macromolecules which are molecules that contain a high number of atoms. The
macromolecules are carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. The cellular level contains cells,
which can be eukaryotic or prokaryotic. The cells make up what we call tissues. A tissue is a collection

For example, epithelial tissue works together to cover and protect internal and external body

made up of related organs that work together creating our organ system. A few organ systems are the
muscular system, cardiovascular system, reproductive system, and the digestive system. All of the
things previously listed come together and make an organism! An organism could be a plant, or a
human. We all work together to maintain life. Organisms make up what is called a population.
Populations make up communities, which is when all species occupy the same area. An ecosystem is
made up of communities that interact with each other. There are two processes that the ecosystem
depends on which are the cycling of nutrients and the flow of energy (or sunlight). Lastly, ecosystems
create the big picture that is the biosphere. The biosphere is all of earth s atmosphere, water, and crust.

the book is that Morrie teaches Mitch to live life his own way. Morrie is disgusted by america s lust
for greed, fakeness, and violence, and teaches to establish your own way of thinking. While the O.J.
Simpson case was going on, Morrie completely shut himself off from the case, and instead focused on
his family and friends. Morrie built his life on the foundation of love and forgiving, two things that are
shunned in America, in Morrie s eyes. Morrie teaches Mitch that creating his own values and beliefs
leads to a much more enjoyable life than accepting mainstream America. One more theme evident in
Tuesdays with Morrie is the theme that life is full of choices. Morrie says early on in the book that he
had two choices when he got sick, feel sorry for himself or do something to try and help the world.

23. The War Of 1812 By Andrew Jackson
The War of 1812, perhaps like most wars, may appear to be without merit, ironic and perverse. It
began in response to Britain s policy of impressment, employed to prevent France, its enemy in the
Napoleonic Wars, from obtaining supplies from America, and ended with the reallocation of British
troops to North America after the defeat of Napoleon. The War contained so much irony to the extent
that a truce was declared, but not communicated to the troops in America, before the largest battle of
the war took place at New Orleans. A war that curbed American expansion also included a general,
Andrew Jackson, who parlayed his fame as a general the War of 1812 to the Presidency and who
would become an expansionist President responsible for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Far from the shores of England, and to a large extent independent from the mother country, Canada
remained reliant upon Britain, at least for its military expertise. Although Britain was largely
preoccupied with the Napoleonic Wars in Europe, its military support of Canada, especially in the
later phases of the war, proved to be decisive in the defeat of the Americans. Perhaps this is only
appropriate given that Britain s policy of impressment of American vessels and sailors was a principal
cause of the War of 1812(Black, 185). To be fair though, American expansionist sentiment, embodied
in the cries of the War Hawks leading up to the War of 1812, and that later manifested itself in the
form of Manifest Destiny contained in the Monroe Doctrine, was also a cause of the war. Also
contributing to the start of the War was the growing expansionist sentiment in the United States that
was based on the idea of American superiority over Canada(185). This sense of superiority was rooted
not only in the ideology of the American revolution, that republicanism and democracy were superior
to monarchy and despotism, but also in the comparative advantage in population, manpower, financial
and industrial strength enjoyed by America (Creighton,108). To the Americans, Upper Canada was an
appealing and exceedingly vulnerable province by virtue of its geography, small population and
perhaps even more so because of the composition of that population that included many recent

Belonging is the relationship between an individual and his society, idealistically of one being in
harmony with their surrounding peers and therefore becoming accepted no matter what attributes they
possess. Belonging is an intrinsic need, it is a complex and variable state and in the end brings some
form of happiness to an individual. The film, Strictly Ballroom , produced by Baz Luhrman, focuses
upon the individual Scott who possesses the skills to win but defies the rules of the ballroom world by
adding unauthorised steps and by challenging the status quo. Similarly, The short story, A Straight Bat

towards Timothy, who is attempting to develop his own identity. Timothy s disapproval and rejection
of the bat is highlighted in the short, sharp sentences and the negative connotations of the words stared
, hard and heavy in the quote, Timothy stared hard at the cricket bat. It looked heavy . The negative
description of the bat illustrates his objection towards the interest and values in which his father
expects him to abide by. This reinforces the negativity that a sense of individuality can be removed
and affected by the expectations of belonging imposed by those around us.
The negative conformist nature to conform is represented through the use of the bat , symbolising the
need to conform in order to feel accepted. The metaphor quoted within George s quote, Everyone must
have his own bat , emphasises that each person must follow their own path in order to develop their
own identity. We realise that complying by the expectations of society is the first step to acquiring
acceptance. The destroying of the violin, represents Timothy s individuality and the ability to grow, is
halted and depleted as the expectations of his father to play cricket, is of more priority to his son s
desire. Roger Holt s use of this, just like Strictly Ballroom , reinforces the effect of the negativity of

25. Doctrine of Foreign Policy Constructed by U.S. Presidents
There were many presidents of the United States that were able to construct doctrines during their
presidency terms in office that defined their individual foreign policy goals and/or aims. Just to name
a few there was the Monroe Doctrine of 1823, Truman Doctrine 1947 and the Reagan Doctrine of
1984. For example, the Monroe Doctrine was constructed for two main reasons: 1) John Adams,
Secretary of State, suggested the principle that the Western hemisphere was not an option for any
further colonization by the European powers and 2) the U.S. would defend the freedom of other
nations. The Monroe Doctrine proved its power in the 1900 s when President Roosevelt enforced the
doctrine during the Venezuela Border Dispute as well as securing the independence of Cuba from the
abusive Spanish rule.
During his Presidency, The Ronald Reagan Doctrine was a foreign policy in the United States from
1980 to 1991. The doctrine was to help eliminate communist governments such as Latin America,
Africa and Asia which were supported by the Soviet Union (Lagon, 1994). The plan was to implement
support to private and open guerilla and resistance movements that were supported by the Soviet in
communist countries. Containment was the official policy towards communism and in creating the
Reagan Doctrine, the focus started from keeping communism from spreading then it shifted to
eliminating existing communist governments. In addition to the eliminations of the communist
governments, the United

Six Sigma is named after the process that has six standard deviations on each side of the specification
window. It is a disciplined, data driven approach and methodology for eliminating defects. The central
idea behind Six Sigma is that if you can measure how many defects you have in a process, you can
systematically figure out how to eliminate them and get as close to zero defects as possible.
Six Sigma starts with the application of statistical methods for translating information from customers
into specifications for products or services being developed or produced.
Six Sigma is the business strategy and a philosophy of one working smarter not harder.
One sigma gives a precision of 68.27%., two sigma, of 95.45% and three sigma of
99.73%, whereas Six Sigma gives a precision of 99.9997%.Although 99.73% sounds very good, it
slowly dawned on companies that there is a tremendous difference between
99.73% and 99.9997%. For ex. For every million articles of mail, the difference is between 66,738
lost items and 3.4 lost items (Exhibit 1).
5
To achieve Six Sigma Quality, a process must produce no more that 3.4 defects per million
opportunities. An opportunity is defined as a chance for nonconformance, or not meeting the required
specifications. This means one needs to be nearly flawless in executing key processes. The process
and culture is conditioned for zero defects

27. A Research Plan On Mass Transit And Efforts
This strategic plan is centered on mass transit and efforts to reduce emissions in order to then reduce
asthma across the population. The outline for the paper will be in the form of the eight steps from Our
Iceberg is Melting for the purpose of identifying and planning a successful execution of steps needed
to take for a positive outcome.
Set the Stage
Step 1: Create a Sense of Urgency According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
transportation related pollutants are one of the largest contributors to unhealthy air quality, (CDC, n.d.)
which can lead to the worsening of asthma symptoms, among other negative health impacts. In the
United States, emissions from cars and other motor vehicles account for more than 50 percent of air
pollution in urban areas and the design of communities and transportation systems impact how often
automobiles are used, how many automobile trips are taken, and how long those trips are (CDC, n.d.).
In order to reduce these emissions, it is critical to consider increasing the usage of mass transit as well
as other transportation alternatives and create a healthier atmosphere for everyone. In addition to the
positive health impacts, reducing transportation caused pollutants would improve air quality that
would have other positive environmental consequences. However, immediate action by the public,
transportation experts and policy advisers, health professionals and other key actors is necessary
immediately.

workplace culture of the organization at every level; from the sprawling 300 acre headquarters in the

unforgiving guide to how employees should present themselves at work. This policy governed every
aspect of an employee s appearance from the number of times they rolled the cuffs of their jeans to the

work environment where employees felt they were constantly being evaluated on the basis of their
physical attributes alone, but it also led to human rights violations wherein job applicants were denied

Internet has taken that little rumble and is quickly turning it into an earthquake. The control the

Hindu people who follow their cultural traditions have to deal with. The food practice that I am

regarding killing and eating cattle in the religion as compared to other moral religious codes. In
Western society most cultures don t see a moral issue when eating beef. I know my family eats beef at

Despite popular belief cattle are not worshipped in Hinduism, but rather held in high esteem. There are
a couple different historic reasons why Hindus don t eat cow. The first being that during the
development of the religion cattle were extremely expensive to slaughter as they produced a lot of
other food and work and were more valuable left alive. It was financially impractical for early Hindus
to eat cattle. Additionally, cattle were seen as the appropriate gift for Brahmins who were the high
priests of Hinduism at the time. It eventually came to be seen that killing some cattle was almost
equivalent to insulting a Brahmin in their culture, meaning that there was a strong taboo against
Lastly, the development and subsequent spread of Jainism in the region, which expressively forbids
harming any type of animal, may have influenced early Hindus not to eat cattle. Many rural Hindu
families own a dairy cow which greatly assists them in their way of life. Due to the value of life
placed on cattle in Hinduism there is a moral concern regarding killing the animal. One that is not
commonly held in Western religions in our lives today. The cow is one of the greatest symbols for

Hindu worship also. The fact that products that the cow produces are so important not only to the

Reasons for getting a tattoo vary greatly. In some cultures tattoos were used as a way to mark bravery
or a way to mark slaves. Other cultures used tattoos to signify wealth or status. Modern day reasoning
for tattoos has changed greatly. Tattoos and Body Piercing lists several reasons people get tattoos,
including enhancing beauty, identifying oneself, commemorating others, rebellious acts, and body
makeovers. Individuals may use tattoos as an art form to express their personality or beliefs. Also,
tattoos often carry a specific message or association. For instance, a person may get a tattoo as a way
of remembering a loved one. Tattoos may even be a sign of risky or defiant behavior. Young teenagers,

Software Requirement means a condition or capability that must be met or possess by a system to
satisfy a contract, standard, specification or other formally imposed document. In this we come across
with three types of requirements:
User requirements: It provides the details of services required under which the system must operate
smoothly.
Functional Requirements: It describes an interaction between the system and its environment. In
which the functional requirements must correct, complete, consistent and unambiguous.
Non Functional Requirements: It refers to the constraints or restrictions on the system. It contain many
requirements such as resource usage, availability, cost and delivery data, and technology to be used,
etc.

Final Research Paper Draft
Abstract The discovery of free fetal DNA circulating in maternal blood during pregnancy
revolutionized noninvasive prenatal diagnosis. Advancements in prenatal diagnosis in the past decade
have enabled clinicians to accurately diagnose genetic abnormalities in the fetus earlier and without
risk of miscarriage as is associated with amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling. Sequencing and
analysis of the fetal genome has not only improved prenatal diagnosis of chromosomal aneuploidies,
but also subchromosomal aberrations and monogenic disorders. This lends parents earlier and more
specific information that may guide their decisions during pregnancy to benefit ... Show more content

However, analysis of intact fetal cells for detection of aneuploidies and genetic disease shifted away
from this when in 1997, Lo et al. first reported the presence of fetal DNA circulating in maternal
blood. Free fetal DNA (ffDNA) along with RNA (ffRNA) have opened the door to a multitude of
downstream analytical techniques of the fetal genome and transcriptome. Because ffDNA can be
isolated through noninvasive methods all one requires is a sample of maternal blood clinician
scientists have focused on improving diagnostic methods with ffDNA. Currently, ffDNA is used in the
noninvasive diagnosis of Rhesus blood group genotype, sex determination, fetal aneuploidies, and
other genetic disorders (Bianchi,

38. Derek Jeter
Derek Sanderson Jeter was born on June 26, 1974 in Pequannock, NJ. After spending the early years
of his life growing up less than 30 miles away from Yankee Stadium, his family moved to Kalamazoo,
Michigan where Derek began playing tee ball at the age of five. Thanks to the influence of his
grandmother, he grew up a Yankees fan and idolized outfielder Dave Winfield. Derek would normally
return to New Jersey during the summer to visit his grandparents and attend Yankees games. His early
days on the diamond in Kalamazoo were spent honing his skills in the Eastwood, Oakwood and
Westwood Little Leagues. When he started playing high school ball in 1989, his talents helped him
earn a spot on the Kalamazoo Central varsity team as a freshman. ... Show more content on

Shortly after celebrating his team s championship, Derek initiated the Turn 2 Foundation, formed to
support and create activities and programs designed to motivate youth to turn to a healthy lifestyle,
academic achievement and leadership development and turn away from substances such as drugs and
alcohol. The following season, Derek helped lead the Yankees back to the postseason, where they
would lose to Cleveland in the ALDS. New York rebounded by winning a franchise record 114 games
in 1998, and would capture its second World Series title in three years. Derek s .324 average, 203 hits,
19 homers and 30 steals helped him earn the first of six All Star appearances (1998 2002, 2004), and a
year later he would bat a career high .349, as New York cruised to its third championship in four
seasons. In 2000, Derek was named the MVP of both the All Star Game and the World Series, as the
Yankees downed the Mets to capture the Subway Series and a fourth title in Jeter s five seasons in the
Majors. On June 3, 2003 Derek was named Captain of New York Yankees, becoming only the 11th
player to be named captain in franchise history, and the first since Don Mattingly retired after the 1995
season. In 2004, he captured his first Gold Glove award, and helped the Yankees earn their tenth
straight appearance in the
