Louisa May Alcott Transcendentalism
Louisa May Alcott was born in 1832 in Germantown, Pennsylvania where she was taught by her
father who was a transcendentalist philosopher. She studied informally with other authors such as
Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Theodore Parker. She has been publishing since
1851 poems, short stories, thrillers and juvenile tales. Her most popular novel was Little Women
published in 1868. From what I read in a biography, she transformed her father s story Fruitland to
make it look like the woman was the hero. It says in the article that she: makes her own creation out of
his Fruitland s story, feminizes it, making the mother the hero and the father the fool . I feel like
Louisa wanted to mock her father s story by telling her own that ... Show more content on

Mrs. Hope said that with their new beliefs it created tension between them, they turned away from the
family. For the family it was the Utopia, but the others outside were not ready to be in such place as
they say: The world was not ready for Utopia yet, and those who attempted to found it only got
laughed at for their pains. . Utopia is an ideal place or a visionary system of political or social
perfection. With the transcendental movement everyone has to follow a routine. They would all wake
up at the same time every day, take baths, eat at the same time, have meaningful conversations, get
back to work and finish work the evening came. Within the community there are beliefs so it is not
just one person thinking in a different way, but a group of people. It is a transcendental movement
because they choose to live and believe in different things than the rest of the world, but within the
community they all have to think the same way, someone cannot be self reliant on his own. From what
I understand, the children were allowed to do what they wanted, and members in the community were
allowed to express their feeling freely, in other community this not accepted if it is not intellectual or
spiritual thinking. People should not express their feelings freely and should speak in a very kind way,
one youth did the opposite in Fruitland. He said something like: Good morning

Review Of Anna Deavere Smith s Twilight Essay
In May of 1992, actress and playwright Anna Deavere Smith was commissioned to write a one woman
performance piece about the experiences, feelings, and tensions that contributed to and were
exacerbated by the 1992 Los Angeles riots.[1] For her work, Smith interviewed over 200 residents of
Los Angeles during the time of the riot. Her script consists entirely of the actual words of members of
the Los Angeles community as they reflect on their experiences surrounding the Los Angeles riots. As
Smith described in the introduction to her play, Twilight, which she later published as a book, I am
first looking for the humanness inside the problems, or the crises. [2] She strived to maintain a wide
variety of perspectives, interviewing people from all walks of life: white, black, Korean, Latino, poor,
rich, police officers and gang members alike. Anna Deavere Smith s play was widely received as a
brilliant work of theater. One New York Times reviewer, David Richards, praised her performance
saying, She does people s souls. [3] Anna Deavere Smith s play Twilight helps illuminate the thoughts
and feelings of many diverse perspectives behind the racial tensions, the perceived police brutality,
and the lack of leadership for greatly needed urban renewal. Combined with historical research,
Twilight provides a meaningful examination of the underlying causes of the Los Angeles riots. A
longer historical view also reveals the larger class tensions and the massive fluctuation of ethnic

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Telecommuting
ADVANTAGES OF KEEPING THE TELECOMMUTING PROGRAM
1. Reduced expenses for both employees and the company
Telecommuting can help cut down on transportation and other minor costs for IBM s employees as
well as lead to a lower overhead for the company. According to a report done by Global Workplace
Analytics A typical business would save $11,000 per person per year [while] the telecommuters would
save between $2,000 and $7,000 a year (2017). Unfortunately, many employees do not have the
luxury of living close to their place of work. According to a recent census, It now takes the average
worker 26 minutes to travel to work [while] roughly a quarter of American commutes are less than 15
minutes one way [and] nearly 17 percent of commutes are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
[Which] adds up to 60 hours of dawdling a month, or a total of 759 hours each year (Huth, 2015).
Some of the main distractions being talkative coworkers, surfing the web, and mobile phones. Many
of these distractions seen in figure 1 can be almost completely eliminated, leading to a more
productive workflow for telecommuters. Those distractions being a noisy office, bad office
technology, and pointless meetings.
Figure 1 (Huth, 2015)
DISADVANTAGES OF KEEPING THE TELECOMMUTING PROGRAM
1. Lack of collaboration can lead to less creativity
Teamwork and collaboration are essential parts of the creative process. Although it is not impossible
to work in creative teams from home, telecommuting comes with certain communication roadblocks,
making it harder to come up with viable, out of the box ideas. As stated by Joonas Virtanen According
the study, far the biggest hurdles for creative remote work were the following: Communication suffers
significantly, spontaneity is often lost, and lack of interpersonal relationships makes the work less
stimulating (2015). The study also showed that from the pool of workers surveyed, only 15% think
having remote team members increases the quality of work [and] 46% felt the quality of the creative
work suffered due to working remotely (Virtanen, 2015). Face to face communication has proven to
be more effective than telecommuting when

The Democracy And Human Rights
For as long as it has existed, the Chinese government has been power hungry, They have limited the
freedom of citizens so that they can make the decisions themselves, such as not allowing citizens to
vote for government officials. Instead, officials are simply appointed by others in government.
Citizens want reform, protests have occurred across the country for change to a democratic system so
that citizens can finally elect the people that represent them. This would give citizens more power, but
as result, take some away from the government, which they do not want. The Chinese government
needs to listen to their citizens and change to a democratic system to give them more freedom and
make them happier. The status of democracy and human rights in China is not where it could be. Both
are limited in the following ways. According to Noah Berlatsky, China s government is authoritarian
and undemocratic. Leaders are for the most part appointed and not elected. Media in China are
regulated, and protest against the government is strictly limited (Berlatsky). This means that the
citizens of China do not have the ability to influence who is elected. The already appointed
government officials decide and appoint others. The Chinese government also strictly limits
protesting. There is a popular practice known as Falun Gong, which includes exercises and the study
of several books. This was founded by Li Hongzhi in 1992, and by 1998, it had 70 million
practitioners. The Chinese

Dracula s Role Of Women During The Victorian Era
Have you ever wondered why women are the way they are today? Well, Dracula takes a very good
look at how women were once treated and hints at what they will evolve into. Dracula takes place
during the Victorian Era where women were considered less than men. Dracula was written back in
1897 and contains Religious references that aid the main characters to subdue the cruel vampire
known as Dracula. During the Victorian Era women were stay at home wives and their only job was to
have children and to tidy up the house. They were devoted to their husband and everything they did
was to benefit their husband. Women were viewed as fragile creatures that should not be involved in
anything dangerous. However, some of these women, such as the three vampire sisters, are very
dangerous, capable of killing children so that they may live longer, which contradicts the thought that
women are fragile and need protecting. In Bram Stoker s Dracula the role of Victorian women in
England have continuously evolved into what women are today. Van Helsing s biggest compliment for
Mina is that she has a man s brain . In his eyes Mina s combination of masculine intellect and
feminine sweetness makes her the perfect Victorian woman. Van Helsing describes how Mina Harker
is the perfect example of a Victorian Women and since she happens to be so smart she must have the
brain of a man that makes her seemingly perfect. Van Helsing compliment Mina by stating: She has a

Spirits Of The Forest Analysis
Lemurs are creatures that are solely found on the island of Madagascar and islands off the east coast of
Africa. These species have diversified greatly into niches because of no competition from other
primates (since other primates are not present on the island). In the documentary, Spirits of the forest
(Lemurs), several species physical and behavioral adaptations are described. Some of these species
include the mouse, ring tailed, sifakas, and Indris lemurs. Lemurs are described to resemble dog like
primates whose eyes are faced forward. This physical characteristic contributes to binocular vision,
which helps lemurs gauge the distance between trees. They have strong olfactory capabilities
compared to other primates and bond by grooming one another. Ring tailed lemurs are more terrestrial
than arboreal. Females are the dominant gender in their society. They form close troops of about ten to
twelve, or even possibly more than twenty members of each troop. Daily, ringtails spend part of their
time on the ground in the dry forest and bush. Their physical features include long tails with white and
black rings. Their tails are held high which helps hold the troop together. Ringtails spend a part of
their time on the ground eating leaves, flowers, and small invertebrates to ... Show more content on

They have distinctly high pitched alarm calls that signal the threat of predators that target their young.
From the documentary, this specie seems to reside in both the dry forest and lush rainforests. They
rely heavily on scent marking to identify their home range. Their locomotion is leaping from tree to
tree. In terms of their young, the offspring suckles for three to months but as they grow, tend to
explore more and more. When twins are born it indicates a rich supply of food. In particular, they eat
mud from termite mounds for nutrition and forage on the ground eating spiders, and pods of trees,

Essay On Henrietta Lacks
Many of today s major vaccines would not have been possible without the ever so famous HeLa cells.
These cells have a very unique trait that makes them immortality. Although they sound like something
straight out of science fiction, they come from an actual woman named Henrietta Lacks who was
diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer. Although her cells went on to be world famous, Henrietta lived
a life of inequality because of her race, gender, and socio economic class throughout her short
lifespan. To begin with, perhaps one of her largest inequalities was racism, as it was to many blacks at
the time. Henrietta experienced racism from the beginning of her life to the very end. One may think

stooped in those fields planting Tabaco... (19), and she was lucky if [she even] sold enough Tabaco
each season to feed the family (24). This explains that Henrietta lived most of her life working and
having nothing to show for it. One might even say that she lived her life working so hard, only to have
her life cut short years later. She only continued to live in the hearts of her family who today are also
not getting enough money despite Henrietta s now being world famous. Henrietta s lack of money
made it difficult for her family to live on past her

Over The Many Years Pigs Have Developed And Evolved Into
Over the many years pigs have developed and evolved into what they are today, 30 differing species of
exotic and wild hogs that we know today, all around the planet. Wild pigs, even though not native to
America still pose and ecological and economic risk to the nation. Feral swine, as descendants from
domestic pigs, still pose considerable challenges in population control efforts. (Ditch off 2007, P. 149)

(Sleeman 2012) All of the initial Eurasian wild boars were released on fenced properties, later, some
escaped there confinement, resulting in more wild pigs throughout the environment. (Mayer and
Brisbin, 2008). The life cycle of these animals entails many characteristics including disease,
predation and even mortality by means of hunters. The free roaming pig population of the U.S. is at an
estimated 4 million. The reproductive strategy of wild hogs predominantly in the southeastern U.S. is
considered very aggressive with high frequencies, intervals and offspring.
Species Description Feral Hogs are a species that evolved in a relatively short period of time on the
North American Continent. Even though there genetics are very similar if in most cases are the same
to domesticated swine, there are noticeable differences. Feral swine over the current domesticated pig

dorsally from the neck to the backend, a straight heavily tufted tail, and ears covered with hair. (NSRL
2016) Even though the physical attributes of these wild boars differ greatly from their counterparts,
the characteristics of feral hogs are still very much varied, depending upon the breed of the ancestral
stock. European wild hogs and feral hogs interbreed readily, with traits of European wild hogs

Deborah Tannen Sex Lies And Conversation
Sex, Lies and Conversation Compares the Way We Communicate In Sex, Lies and Conversation: Why
Is It So Hard for Men and Women to Talk to Each Other? By Deborah Tannen a professor linguistics
at Georgetown University, who has also published many books on the subject of cross cultural
communication. In the article Sex, Lies and Conversation she attempts to describe how men and
women communicate differently, and how the way men and women communicate can cause problems
in relationships. First, Tannen discusses the different back grounds men and women come from as
children. Tannen states, these systematic differences in childhood socialization make talk between
women and men like cross cultural communication, heir to all the attraction and pitfalls of that
enticing but difficult enterprise (Tannen 382). In this quote she is referring to the way Boys and girls
tend to play with children of their own gender, and their sex separate groups have different
organizational structures and interactive norms (Tannen 382). Due to these separate groups children
grow up with different communication skills. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Men who expect silent attention interpret a stream of listener noise as overreaction or impatience.
Also, when women talk to each other in a close, comfortable setting, they often overlap, finish each
other s sentences and anticipate what the other is about to say (Tannen 384). She says men perceive
listening noises as interruption, and women who receive no listening noises perceive this as being
ignored. Tannen also says, men see their conversational duty as pointing out the other side of the
argument (Tannen 384). While women talk to each other, they assume a conversationalist s job is to
express agreement and support (Tannen 384). These differences in communication between women
and men can cause a gap in

Benito Cereno
In her article entitled Black Masks: Melville s Benito Cereno , Jean Fagan Yellin says that when
Benito Cereno, Herman Melville s tale of slave revolt, appeared in 1855, it made use of Negro
stereotypes already standard in American fiction (Yellin 678). Captain Amasa Delano is characterized
as the typical Yankee man. Yellin elaborates on this by analyzing his self important, authoritarian
persona, observing that he is investigating the strange ship, self righteously expounding the doctrine of
work, officiously planning to manage affairs on the San Dominick, proudly resentful of any implied
social slight, and in no way averse, after helping the distressed Spaniard, to totting up the price he
expects to be paired for his trouble. He smugly believes himself the peculiarly favored child of
Providence (Yellin 682). When we view him in contrast with Cereno, an aristocratic European, Delano
can now be assessed as representation of the idealistic New World Man or the typical American white
man, meaning he is seen as democratic, compassionate, generous, capable of decisive action, although
blind to evil and unable to learn from his experience (Yellin 682). This is best exemplified in his views
of the black slaves on the San Dominick. His assumptive thinking is prevalent in the story because
throughout his initial exploration of the San Dominick, he buys into the illusion that what is happening
upon the ship is not deviating from reality. The presentation of black slaves as

The company is decentralized and each department is a responsibility center. A responsibility center is
a division of a company for which a manager has the authority to make decisions. The main types of
responsibility centers are cost centers and profit centers.
A cost center is a division of a company that is responsible for the keeping the costs as low as
possible. Cost centers contribute to a company s profitability indirectly like marketing, customer
service or research and development.
A profit center is a division of the company that is accounted for on a standalone basis for the purpose
of profit calculation. The managers of those profit centers have the decision making authority related
to product or service pricing and operating expenses. Therefore, the profit center is responsible for
making its own earnings.
The goal is to reorganize the allocation of costs so that each segment is profitable. The special events

The Casino department should still be run as a profit center. Gambling is the largest source of revenue

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Renting A Coper Rentals
Virtually all offices have copier machines that employees use for their daily maneuvers. However,
maximum of these businesses do not categorically purchase their own machines. Rather, they just rent
copier machines from other firms. What makes copier rentals so prevalent? Is it actually a superior
option than buying your own copier unit? The answer for maximum businesses is yes, there are lots of
advantages when opting for copier rentals than essentially purchasing a unit for their workplace.
At the outset, if you purchase your own copier machine or even toner cartridge, you will have the
solitary accountability of maintenance, overhauls and other such errands that could take a lot of your
valued time and effort. If you use a copier machine on rent, you will have enormously less
apprehension about these problems. Maximum copier rental supplier or firms offer free service and
maintenances to their clienteles. When your copier machine breakdowns, all you have to do is contact
the copier rental firm and they will offer repair assistance for free or for a very minimal amount. ...

rented copier. So, if you were thinking about purchasing a machine and your budget is not adequate,
remember that you can always use copier rentals. They may be more economical for your business.
Since the copiers are leased out to countless different firms, it is vital to ensure that the machines are
in good shape before signing any contracts for them so that you can sidestep lots of trouble that can

U.s. Foreign Policy During The Middle East
For over the last two decades the Middle East has gradually gathered attention and has come to the
forefront of U.S. foreign policy. The focus on this region began primarily after the attacks on the two
World Trade Center s in New York City on September 11th, 2001. Iraq was the initial target in the
response to the devastating tragedy. This response involved an indefinite occupation with the intention
of eliminating weapons of mass destruction , with intelligence under the Bush Administration
allegedly confirming their existence. As this undeclared war on Iraq took place, U.S. foreign policy
was initiated. It consisted of bringing down an authoritarian regime and establishing democracy within
the state of Iraq, along with decimating any potential threats to the U.S. homeland. The major threat
lying with terrorist organizations in the region such as Al Qaeda, who were to blame for the 9/11
attacks on U.S. soil. Eventually the deployment of troops into Iraq was left without any particular
cause, due to the revelation that Saddam Hussein s regime had no possession of any nuclear weapons.
And as U.S. troops struggled to figure out exactly what they were fighting for, an insurgency began to
emerge. Is the U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East the cause of insurgency in the region along with
the eventual formation of militant groups such as ISIS? The policies carried out by the United States
consisted of establishing order and democracy in a state while also preventing any

Lost Cause Thesis
The Lost Cause was believed to be a myth to provide justification for white political power (p. 341).
Many southern organizations defended Southern Historical Society, the United Confederate Veterans
Association, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy (p. 341). A literacy and intellectual
movement, which was the Lost Cause, that sought to reconcile the traditional Southern white society
to the defeat of the Confederate States of America in the Civil War (Foster, G. M. 2002). Majority of
those who supported the movement were confederate leaders who were defeated by the union army by
overwhelming force and not by their military skills. The Lost Cause came from white southern who
sought consolation for losses beyond their control to betrayals of their heroes (Foster, G.M. 2002). ...

The decline of interest in the Lost Cause was more of a Northern than a Southern celebration, which
was the Civil War Centennial. Many white Southerners revived the use of Confederate symbols during
the civil rights revolts of 1950s and 1960s, mainly the Confederate flag and Dixie (Gaines Foster
2002). With this being said, the Northern celebration lost intertest extremely quick. They revived the
use of Confederate symbols by trying to make the cause seem more Christian like and noble and had
their leaders exemplify chivalry. The confederate flags exacerbated social stressors between white and
black Southerners in the 1980s. The battles of the l960s than to those of the 1860s, were when the

The Mega Rich In The United States
The mega rich and the rest of us, which could be further defined as the mega poor or proletariat and
the wanna be mega rich (can t say I blame them) or middle class. The mega rich have enjoyed control
over resources and commodities for a long time. At first it was kings controlling vast amounts of land
and there were good kings and bad kings, some even allowed peasant farmers a way to buy their way
out servitude though few ever did. Empires have grown and shrank over millennia and some
interesting changes have taken place. Corporations now dominate puppet governments from behind
the scenes and restrict the flow of wealth while siphoning away resources from poorer countries.

History Of Ostrich Farms Have Become An Extended Activity...
Introduction
Ostriches are one of the toughest and strongest birds on this planet. They can live in all kinds of
climates and easily adjust to them, whether they are tropical countries or northern ones. The ostrich
industry is considered as a multi processing business producing a number of commodities as feathers,
leather and meat (PITTAWAY et al., 2015). Ostrich farms have become an extended activity
throughout the world and considered to be one of the most preferable agriculture project. Ostrich meat
is a wonderful , healthy red meat with all of the flavor and texture of beef ; it is rich in protein and
high in iron and lower in fat, calories and cholesterol than other meat sources . On the other hand,
ostrich feathers are used to clean fine machinery and equipment as well as for aesthetics and in the
fashion industry, furthermore tendons of ostrich leg are used to replace torn tendons in human leg and
a substance derived from ostrich brain is being studied for the treatment of Alzheimer s disease and
other types of dementia (SHANAWANY, 1994).
Ostriches live mostly in desolate desert climates, so they have to be flexible in their diet and eat
almost anythings like plants, lizards, seeds, locusts and stones, these make them susceptible to many
infections including parasitic ones. The later seem to be uncommon in ostrich all over the world (
DINGLE, 1996 ; HUCHZERMEYER, 1998) inspite of some of these infections may lead to the death
of infected birds (NEL, 1980).

K Pop s Shady Business Secret Essay
K pop s Shady Business Secret
The Korean pop or K pop industry over the last decade has experienced a major increase in popularity
that has made it a billion dollar competition for foreign music industries. They are especially known
for their extravagant music videos and visual aesthetics, which have attracted worldwide followings.
K pop companies are also infamous for being brutally strict on training and restrictions for their
trainees and idols. They fixate on the business growth over the musical talent and content. The
problem that stems from creativity and commerce overlapping in the Korean pop industry is the
unethical treatment of its trainees along with the racialization and exploitation of idol groups in
different global markets, due to the commanding force of the industry.
The last decade has seen the rapid globalization and popularity of the korean entertainment industry
worldwide, which is known as the Hallyu wave. It expanded into international markets through social
media platforms such as Youtube, which served as a method of free mass distribution, securing many
international fans. Having recently broken into the American and European market, K pop exists as
Korea s biggest export, the industry itself being worth $3 billion. This results in creativity being
determined by how much business flows into the industry internationally. As a result, there is looming
pressure on the industry to continue growing and making big money. K pop is a business in which

Violence And Racism In Wolf Whistle By Lewis Nordan
Wolf whistle is based on a real life tragedy that occurred in 1955. Lewis Nordan, the author uses
humor to alleviate the vicious tone that was given off from the violence and racism. During 1955 Jim
Crow laws were in effect, so segregation and inequality was present throughout the whole novel. Jim
Crow laws sparked a significant amount of unfair trials, where the guilty people were magically let go,
unpunished. The Emmett Till case was one of the many unfair trials. It solely revolved around
violence and racism, which still exists in our society today. Racism can and does lead to violence a
majority of the time. It is detrimental flaw in society, where innocent people are killed daily due to
their skin tone. In Wolf Whistle, Bobo was a fourteen year old African American boy that was
murdered by two white men because he wolf whistled at a white female. He was killed simply because
a white man named Solon thought that Bobo s action was outrageous due to his skin color.
Unfortunately, racists people like Solon still walk among us today. They are referred to as white
supremacists, since they firmly believe they are better than other races. Killings like Bobo s still
happen today but to a lesser degree. Bobo s death was a long, slow and vicious death that no human
should ever have to go through. Bobo s death began when he was kidnapped from where he was
staying at with no fight. His Aunt and Uncle practically handed him over to Solon. The fact that Solon

Analysis Of Hey There Delilah
Confessing Love Through Song The purpose of this paper is to analyze the song Hey There Delilah by
the Plain White T s. This paper will identify the message and tone of the song, as well as the artist s
appeal to the audience by analyzing the organization of the song, and the specific rhetorical strategies
the artist used to connect to the audience. The song s organization, style, figurative language, and
hyperboles in the lyrics will also be analyzed to connect the artist s intention back to the audience. In
this song, the artist s main point and thesis, is that he is head over heels in love with a girl named
Delilah. He wants to tell the world, and Delilah herself, how much he loves her, and how their love
conquers the distance between them.
This song was released in May 2006 in the United states, with the intended audience being people
ranging in age from middle school age to college age. He chose this range in age to connect to a broad
amount of people, with the general assumption that they would be familiar with what love is, or have
experienced it themselves.
The artist wants the audience to feel his substantial affection for Delilah, and how it is unchanging
even though they are separated by distance. He appeals to the audience s emotions of admiration,
compassion, and longing for another person. The artist does this by singing about his extensive love
for Delilah, which may lead people to think of someone they themselves care deeply about, or an
example of love in their life.
The artist chooses an upbeat and happy tempo that repeats throughout the song. He chooses this
repeating tempo to draw the listener s attention to the lyrics of the song. The slow, yet happy tempo
paired with the artists bright and cheery voice creates a sense of ease and happiness within the song
itself, and the audience.
In this song, for the majority of the time the artist is confessing and explaining his love for Delilah to
the world, and Delilah herself. He does this by telling the audience exactly what he is thinking,
however, he does use imagery on occasion to accentuate his point. For example, the artist uses the
simile Times Square can t shine as bright as you, to compare Delilah s radiance to the lights of New

sheds on his parent s farm. While waiting on lab results from the bloodwork, CW went into respiratory
distress. He was intubated and sent to the ICU for supportive care.
II. Physical and Laboratory Findings
On examination, the physician listened to CW s lungs, noting there was diminished lung sounds with
crackling. Chest X ray showed acute pneumonia in both lungs. The physician also noted swelling in
CW s chest and neck area (Cunha, 2015). Blood was drawn with a heparinized vacutainer tube and a
serum separator vacutainer for serology, and reverse transcriptase polymerase chain raction testing.
While CW was in intubation there were lung tissue samples obtained for the immunohistochemistry.

blood, and pools of ectoparasites, and initially screened by real time PCR assays targeting rpoB and
the 16S 23S ITS. Conventional PCR amplifying gene regions from gltA and rpoB was also performed
on all diagnostic samples. All bat fly species were identified as Cylcopodia greefii and the 148
captured bats were comprised of five species: straw colored fruit bats (Eidolon helvum), epauletted
fruit bats (Epomophorus spp.), dwarf epauletted fruit bats (Micropteropus spp.), horseshoe bats
(Rhinolophus spp.), and Nigerian free tailed bats (Chaerephon nigeriae) (Table 2). When using qPCR

Summary Of Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr, And James...
Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr, and James Baldwin have some of the most well known African
American writers. Although they lived during the same time and agreed that race was an enormous
problem, they all had different approaches. For example: King believed in nonviolent protest and
integration, Malcolm X wanted a separate society for blacks and violent protests, and Baldwin knew
that white people were the key to solving inequality if they learned their history of oppression and
wanted integration. While having different ideas, all of them played a key role in the civil rights
movement. None of this would be possible without the works of Phillis Wheatley, David Walker, and
Frederick Douglass. Similarly to the future leaders, Wheatley, Walker, and Douglass have different
ideas on how to combat the oppression in that time. Phillis Wheatley broke the mold when she had her
work published, being not only a woman, but also the first African American author to be published.
She is also oldest of the three like before Walker and Douglass were even born. This translates into her
writing and stylistic choices. In order to be published, Wheatley needed to be conservative and safe in
her writing but of course; she found a way around that restriction. At first glance, her poems may seem
thankful to her captors; after a closer look, she disguises the hypocrisy of her captors and their religion
with thankfulness. Wheatley questions, I, young in life, by seeming cruel fate was

Thesis On Braamfontein
Introduction
This paper is the result of a research gap regarding the topic of Braamfontein from an information
architecture point of view. What Terence and I concluded, after wildly searching for relevant sources
that would subsequently inform my Interaction Design (IxD) dissertation, was that credible
information pertaining to Braamfontein is undeniably few and far between. Well, no, it s there, but the
information wasn t exactly what we were looking for. In fact there has been extensive research done
around the topic of urban planning, the shift from public to private, the ongoing urban renewal
initiative, the over arching theme of gentrification, and so on, but there was little to do with role of
information in Braamfontein. Writing about the history of Braamfontein was just as scarce. It s no
wonder that there is a general lack of interest within the informational scope of Braamfontein, where

Pros And Cons Of The Minimum Driving Age
Minimum Driving Age ...since the first graduated driver programs were instituted, there have been
1,348 fewer deadly crashes involving 16 year old drivers. But at the same time, there have been 1,086

regarding the minimum driving age for teens. With the raising or lowering of the minimum driving
age, comes many pros and cons. Moreover, the minimum driving age should not be raised as it brings
more unconcerned, inexperienced and crashes upon drivers. Furthermore, the minimum driving age
should not be raised as it can bring more unconcerned drivers. For instance, ... many teenagers, rather
than deal with the extra restrictions for 16 and 17 year olds are simply waiting to get a license until
they turn 18, and skipping the restrictions altogether... ( O Connor 2). This shows, that older teenagers
prefer to skip the restrictions that are forced upon younger teens. In other words, if it is not mandatory
that teenagers abide by certain rules at a certain age, then drivers will be indifferent on the road.
Likewise, ...when California instituted its tougher driving laws for teenagers, the proportion of 16 and
17 year olds getting licenses to drive dropped while the number at 18 and 19 did not... (O Connor 2).

Negotiating is something that has been around since the beginning of mankind. We all start off
negotiating as little kids, even for little things such as candy and toys. When we grow up, negotiating
becomes sort of the norm. We negotiate consciously and subconsciously every single day. When you
think about it, negotiation takes up most of our lives. We are always trying to see what we can get as a
benefit without giving up much. It always comes down to the pie, how big is the pie and who can get
the biggest slice. As we become adults with careers, there are ever some that become flat our

be able to get what you want from people without them feeling like they are being taken advantage of
and that they are also getting just as big a piece of the pie as you are getting, although in reality they
are not. Negotiation Negotiation is all about a strategy. The end result is usually to end a problem that

several situations where you would be foolish not to consult with one. Real estate laws can be
complex, and you can t expect to understand all of them. The following are four situation where you
should have the assistance of a real estate lawyer.
When a business is involved
Although there are circumstances when an attorney may be needed by an individual buying from or

Never mind what the seller is telling you, nor should you give any weight to the opinion of the real

of the property.
Buying property on leased land
If you want to buy a building or home on leased land, it is imperative that you have an attorney look at
the contract for the lease. Will the lease automatically apply to the new owner of the building, or will
you have to renegotiate the lease? Whatever the case may be, it is important that you understand the

Regardless of how much experience you have in buying or selling real estate, the need for a real estate

Thomas Aquinas Views On Free Will
Free will is defined as the ability to choose and think voluntarily without the constraint or necessity of
faith. Thomas Aquinas says that the will is what allows you to chose from one thing or another. The
power by which we are moved to obtain that which we desire is the will. Free will is the desire of
good. It is not simply the matter of apprehending the good and then just sitting there and looking at it.
It is an actual desire of the good. It is a will to have the good; to have that happiness. It is an appetite
of power but it is a rational appetite of power.
Free will is the freedom to chose. It is aiming to act in what you think is best for you. Free will

The professor is not trying to reason with the student. The professor is just saying there is a negative

the student should choose not to cheat because he or she does not want that punishment. Aquinas also
mentions that all of the things including , arguments trying to convince people, giving advice,
appealing to their emotions, exhortations, are ways that influence people and do not necessarily appeal
to them. It is not necessarily just convincing them of the truth. It is just simply showing them if you do
this bad thing then you would get punished or if you do something good then you would get rewarded
but this would only make sense if people have free will and therefore can make free choices. People

provide friction for the vehicles and to transfer normal stresses to the underlying soils.
Typically, pavements are built for three main purposes: 1. Load support: Pavement material is
generally stiffer than the material upon which it is placed, thus it assists the in situ material in resisting

Saint Michael Casting Satan Into Hell
One of the art pieces that I have chosen is called Saint Michael Casting Satan into Hell created by
Francesco Picano after a design by Lorenzo Vaccarno. This piece was made in 1705 in Italy (Naples)
during the times of Italy s Renaissance movement. According to the article Brief History of Italy by
Tim Lambert states that, The 18th century was an age of enlightenment when the power of the church
was curtailed (sec 8). Which stating that during this time religion was highly focused in their works as
a gateway for new ideas. This artwork is located at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art inside the
Ahmanson building on the third floor, in the center of the exhibit under European art. The reason why
I chose this piece is because this piece was interesting, how they represent the idea how it s
represented in the stories that was focused in the work. As well as how it s place near the center so
people can observe it from many different angles. This piece is a sculpture work that uses
Polychromed wood and glass that were carved and molded into and it s at least two feet tall.

depending on the reading style how the reader s comprehension is impacted. The author shares what
researchers have found and focuses on the reader s comprehension because when we read we want to
understand. As a reader, I agreed with the points the author made because different points were
brought up and there is a lot to read about and in the end, it depends on the person but overall different
reading styles matter depending on what it is that you are reading and how long it is. In the article the
author uses a quote from a literacy professor at Norway s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some researchers found that readers were able to learn better when reading from paper while some it
depended on if they were engaged readers. For some readers, it was more difficult because their
performance was impacted from scrolling which is something that I can relate to. According to the
study that was done by Wasteland Text flowing, up and down a page also disrupts a reader s visual

author also brings up E readers may fail to capture a crucial, generally overlooked aspect of paper
books: their physicality. Personally, I enjoy reading when I have the text physically in my hand and
my understanding of the text is much better on paper. Overall deep reading occurs for me when I read
from paper and prefer it over a screen. There are fewer distractions and not much effort put into it
because all you have to do is flip to the next page and not worry about

  • 2. Louisa May Alcott Transcendentalism Louisa May Alcott was born in 1832 in Germantown, Pennsylvania where she was taught by her father who was a transcendentalist philosopher. She studied informally with other authors such as Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Theodore Parker. She has been publishing since 1851 poems, short stories, thrillers and juvenile tales. Her most popular novel was Little Women published in 1868. From what I read in a biography, she transformed her father s story Fruitland to make it look like the woman was the hero. It says in the article that she: makes her own creation out of his Fruitland s story, feminizes it, making the mother the hero and the father the fool . I feel like Louisa wanted to mock her father s story by telling her own that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mrs. Hope said that with their new beliefs it created tension between them, they turned away from the family. For the family it was the Utopia, but the others outside were not ready to be in such place as they say: The world was not ready for Utopia yet, and those who attempted to found it only got laughed at for their pains. . Utopia is an ideal place or a visionary system of political or social perfection. With the transcendental movement everyone has to follow a routine. They would all wake up at the same time every day, take baths, eat at the same time, have meaningful conversations, get back to work and finish work the evening came. Within the community there are beliefs so it is not just one person thinking in a different way, but a group of people. It is a transcendental movement because they choose to live and believe in different things than the rest of the world, but within the community they all have to think the same way, someone cannot be self reliant on his own. From what I understand, the children were allowed to do what they wanted, and members in the community were allowed to express their feeling freely, in other community this not accepted if it is not intellectual or spiritual thinking. People should not express their feelings freely and should speak in a very kind way, one youth did the opposite in Fruitland. He said something like: Good morning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Review Of Anna Deavere Smith s Twilight Essay In May of 1992, actress and playwright Anna Deavere Smith was commissioned to write a one woman performance piece about the experiences, feelings, and tensions that contributed to and were exacerbated by the 1992 Los Angeles riots.[1] For her work, Smith interviewed over 200 residents of Los Angeles during the time of the riot. Her script consists entirely of the actual words of members of the Los Angeles community as they reflect on their experiences surrounding the Los Angeles riots. As Smith described in the introduction to her play, Twilight, which she later published as a book, I am first looking for the humanness inside the problems, or the crises. [2] She strived to maintain a wide variety of perspectives, interviewing people from all walks of life: white, black, Korean, Latino, poor, rich, police officers and gang members alike. Anna Deavere Smith s play was widely received as a brilliant work of theater. One New York Times reviewer, David Richards, praised her performance saying, She does people s souls. [3] Anna Deavere Smith s play Twilight helps illuminate the thoughts and feelings of many diverse perspectives behind the racial tensions, the perceived police brutality, and the lack of leadership for greatly needed urban renewal. Combined with historical research, Twilight provides a meaningful examination of the underlying causes of the Los Angeles riots. A longer historical view also reveals the larger class tensions and the massive fluctuation of ethnic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Democracy And Human Rights For as long as it has existed, the Chinese government has been power hungry, They have limited the freedom of citizens so that they can make the decisions themselves, such as not allowing citizens to vote for government officials. Instead, officials are simply appointed by others in government. Citizens want reform, protests have occurred across the country for change to a democratic system so that citizens can finally elect the people that represent them. This would give citizens more power, but as result, take some away from the government, which they do not want. The Chinese government needs to listen to their citizens and change to a democratic system to give them more freedom and make them happier. The status of democracy and human rights in China is not where it could be. Both are limited in the following ways. According to Noah Berlatsky, China s government is authoritarian and undemocratic. Leaders are for the most part appointed and not elected. Media in China are regulated, and protest against the government is strictly limited (Berlatsky). This means that the citizens of China do not have the ability to influence who is elected. The already appointed government officials decide and appoint others. By Deborah Tannen a professor linguistics at Georgetown University, who has also published many books on the subject of cross cultural communication. In the article Sex, Lies and Conversation she attempts to describe how men and women communicate differently, and how the way men and women communicate can cause problems in relationships. First, Tannen discusses the different back grounds men and women come from as children. Tannen states, these systematic differences in childhood socialization make talk between women and men like cross cultural communication, heir to all the attraction and pitfalls of that enticing but difficult enterprise (Tannen 382). • 12. Benito Cereno In her article entitled Black Masks: Melville s Benito Cereno , Jean Fagan Yellin says that when Benito Cereno, Herman Melville s tale of slave revolt, appeared in 1855, it made use of Negro stereotypes already standard in American fiction (Yellin 678). Captain Amasa Delano is characterized as the typical Yankee man. Yellin elaborates on this by analyzing his self important, authoritarian persona, observing that he is investigating the strange ship, self righteously expounding the doctrine of work, officiously planning to manage affairs on the San Dominick, proudly resentful of any implied social slight, and in no way averse, after helping the distressed Spaniard, to totting up the price he expects to be paired for his trouble. He smugly believes himself the peculiarly favored child of Providence (Yellin 682). When we view him in contrast with Cereno, an aristocratic European, Delano can now be assessed as representation of the idealistic New World Man or the typical American white man, meaning he is seen as democratic, compassionate, generous, capable of decisive action, although blind to evil and unable to learn from his experience (Yellin 682). This is best exemplified in his views of the black slaves on the San Dominick. His assumptive thinking is prevalent in the story because throughout his initial exploration of the San Dominick, he buys into the illusion that what is happening upon the ship is not deviating from reality. Lewis Nordan, the author uses humor to alleviate the vicious tone that was given off from the violence and racism. During 1955 Jim Crow laws were in effect, so segregation and inequality was present throughout the whole novel. Jim Crow laws sparked a significant amount of unfair trials, where the guilty people were magically let go, unpunished. The Emmett Till case was one of the many unfair trials. It solely revolved around violence and racism, which still exists in our society today. Racism can and does lead to violence a majority of the time. It is detrimental flaw in society, where innocent people are killed daily due to their skin tone. In Wolf Whistle, Bobo was a fourteen year old African American boy that was murdered by two white men because he wolf whistled at a white female. He was killed simply because a white man named Solon thought that Bobo s action was outrageous due to his skin color. Unfortunately, racists people like Solon still walk among us today. • 26. Analysis Of Hey There Delilah Confessing Love Through Song The purpose of this paper is to analyze the song Hey There Delilah by the Plain White T s. This paper will identify the message and tone of the song, as well as the artist s appeal to the audience by analyzing the organization of the song, and the specific rhetorical strategies the artist used to connect to the audience. The song s organization, style, figurative language, and hyperboles in the lyrics will also be analyzed to connect the artist s intention back to the audience. In this song, the artist s main point and thesis, is that he is head over heels in love with a girl named Delilah. He wants to tell the world, and Delilah herself, how much he loves her, and how their love conquers the distance between them. This song was released in May 2006 in the United states, with the intended audience being people ranging in age from middle school age to college age. He chose this range in age to connect to a broad amount of people, with the general assumption that they would be familiar with what love is, or have experienced it themselves. The artist wants the audience to feel his substantial affection for Delilah, and how it is unchanging even though they are separated by distance. He appeals to the audience s emotions of admiration, compassion, and longing for another person. The artist does this by singing about his extensive love for Delilah, which may lead people to think of someone they themselves care deeply about, or an example of love in their life. The artist chooses an upbeat and happy tempo that repeats throughout the song. He chooses this repeating tempo to draw the listener s attention to the lyrics of the song. The slow, yet happy tempo paired with the artists bright and cheery voice creates a sense of ease and happiness within the song itself, and the audience. In this song, for the majority of the time the artist is confessing and explaining his love for Delilah to the world, and Delilah herself. He does this by telling the audience exactly what he is thinking, however, he does use imagery on occasion to accentuate his point. For example, the artist uses the simile Times Square can t shine as bright as you, to compare Delilah s radiance to the lights of New ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Conventional PCR amplifying gene regions from gltA and rpoB was also performed on all diagnostic samples. All bat fly species were identified as Cylcopodia greefii and the 148 captured bats were comprised of five species: straw colored fruit bats (Eidolon helvum), epauletted fruit bats (Epomophorus spp.), dwarf epauletted fruit bats (Micropteropus spp.), horseshoe bats (Rhinolophus spp.), and Nigerian free tailed bats (Chaerephon nigeriae) (Table 2). • 32. Summary Of Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr, And James... Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr, and James Baldwin have some of the most well known African American writers. Although they lived during the same time and agreed that race was an enormous problem, they all had different approaches. For example: King believed in nonviolent protest and integration, Malcolm X wanted a separate society for blacks and violent protests, and Baldwin knew that white people were the key to solving inequality if they learned their history of oppression and wanted integration. While having different ideas, all of them played a key role in the civil rights movement. None of this would be possible without the works of Phillis Wheatley, David Walker, and Frederick Douglass. Similarly to the future leaders, Wheatley, Walker, and Douglass have different ideas on how to combat the oppression in that time. Phillis Wheatley broke the mold when she had her work published, being not only a woman, but also the first African American author to be published. She is also oldest of the three like before Walker and Douglass were even born. This translates into her writing and stylistic choices. In order to be published, Wheatley needed to be conservative and safe in her writing but of course; she found a way around that restriction. At first glance, her poems may seem thankful to her captors; after a closer look, she disguises the hypocrisy of her captors and their religion with thankfulness. When I am reading from a phone or tablet I always have this issue after scrolling I lose the sentence that I was on and it takes longer for me to read on a screen compared to paper. Taking time to refocus disrupts the reading the text is blurred because you end up focusing more on refocusing than continuing to read.
