Research Paper On Powerboat Racing
I have a keen interest in all motorsports; I play a lot of motorsport games on PlayStation. I don t get
much time to follow the motorsport statistics and how the real world is doing in the motorsport but I
play a lot of games for example, NASCAR Sprint Cup, Formula One, Moto GP, Need for Speed and
Forza Motorsport. When I visited the drag racing event in Terre Haute, I become more interested in
Drag racing. In some point in my life after finishing up college and having a stable career, I like to get
more involved in F1 powerboat racing in Florida. It is more fun and water motorsport is something
really of my interest.
In general, I like to be involved in all kinds of water sports. Formula one Powerboat racing is my
favorite and the most interesting part which fascinates me about it is the speed on the water. It is the
fast race on the water in the world. According the Formula One H2o website, it states that Powerboats
runs faster than even the formula one race cars and the F1 boats are capable of going from 0 to 160
kilometers per hour in only 4 seconds (F1H2o). It is great as this is independent from anyone else, the
F1 speed boats contend at these velocities without the utilization of brakes or riggings. It is focused,
captivating, testing, brave, daring and fascinating.

The cars design was very interesting and fascinating. It was very loud and smokes were all over the
track and smelled like tires. The funny car was very interesting to watch the design of the funny car
more attractive than its speed but no doubts that funny cars are very fast. It was also fascinating to see
the 1965 Pontiac lemans and the way it was built from the back which helps that car support when
taking off after green lite and run on the two wheels. The overall experience was fun and there were
drag race cars that I was introduced first time in my

Monosaccharides Lab Report
Experimental Purpose: In this lab we are testing for monosaccharides disaccharides and
polysaccharides. Monosaccharides are directly related to the tongues recognition of sweet things. This
saccharides are very simple which allows your tongue to taste them. Disaccharides and
polysaccharides on the other hand are too complicated for our tongues to pick up the sweet taste. All
these saccharides are made of the same thing. Mono means one. Poly means many. These saccharides
play a big role in our ability to taste. During our experiment we also used to chemical solutions. Iodine
and Benedict s. Iodine turns your solution black once it recognizes a more complicated
polysaccharide. And the Benedicts is just the opposite when the Benedicts recognizes ... Show more

Place tube in the hot water. After about 2 4 minutes in the hot water, check if the solution changed
color. If the solution did change color to a more yellow, orange, brick red color, it is positive for the
benedict s test. Positive for monosaccharides. Manipulated variable: The iodine and benedict s
solutions. Responding variable: Whether the solution has monosaccharides, disaccharides or
polysaccharides. Controlled variable: Same water temperature, same amount of water in beaker, same
amount of the water in your solution, same amount of the benedicts and/or iodine added to the test
tube per test. Experimental control: The color change of the solution caused by the benedicts or iodine
solutions added to the mixture. Validity measurements: Our experiment results are very reliable. After
every trial we always clean out the test tubes. And before we start our experiment we always set the
hot plate to high. Results: As a result when we tested the tomato samples it was negative for the iodine
test and positive for the Benedix test. This means that my hypothesis was correct and that tomatoes do
contain monosaccharides. Sample Iodine Test Benedict s Test Tomato Negative

The Family Structure Of The Hoover Family Essay
I. Through the traverse of 3 days, the Hoover family takes a road trip that progressions, each of them
exclusively and as a three generational family. The most unconventionally miserable family you will
ever experience. Their individual self centered identities will put them in terrible positions, however
soon enough each family member will work together. As we get to be familiar with each of the
Hoovers, we see them separately either making progress toward the status of a broken family.
Change for the Hoover family is unequivocal bringing the opportunity of togetherness to return. At the
point when the Hoovers realizes being a loser sometimes make the winners look bad they will achieve
authorizing structure. This paper will lay out the significance of a family structure, the power of a
family that brings people back together as one. In Hoover family structure, there will be gravitational
draw making each relative acknowledging they need each other after all.
II.
Primary Family Functions
When you experience different families, you frequently take note of how their correspondence hones
vary from others. Observing the film Little Miss Sunshine you will notice the way they communicate
with each other depends all on their own personal identity and not collectively as a family. The
Hoover s represent some family dysfunction.

Case Study Of 21 CFR Part 11
Business Case
The client is a US based multinational medical device, pharmaceutical, and consumer packaged goods
manufacturer, founded in 1886. Counting on its 250 subsidiary companies with operations in 60
countries, the company leverages 130 years of expertise to bring innovative ideas, products, and
services to advance the health and well being of people across the globe.
In this case, the client identified lapses in data accuracy and consistency while capturing electronic
records from various lab instruments used by its subsidiary companies. Additionally, some corrective
and preventive actions were listed, which needed greater attention to avoid non compliance with 21
CFR Part 11.
The scope of the service was extensive and demanded real time monitoring of electronic records, audit
trails, and necessity of monitoring compliance to enable 21 CFR Part 11.
Challenges
The multiple GMP compliant labs located in several operating groups of the client were unable to
ensure data integrity across all their lab systems due to discrepancies in different lab instruments. The
instruments like Spectrometer, Titrator, Microscopes, UV Vis had their own way of capturing
electronic records and there was no control over data usage. In consequence, there were huge gaps in
meeting the regulatory compliance needs.

The Sea is My Brother by Jack Kerouack Essay
Soldiering is 99% boredom and 1% of sheer terror , a civil war soldier wrote this to his wife in a letter
and since then the composition of war has not changed. So, what did the soldiers do in those periods
of boredom? Well, especially for the men in the frontlines, who were far from any form of
entertainment, writing letters, diaries and poems were some of the few available options. These were
the forms of war literatures that soldiers used to express and share their feelings with their loved ones
at home, as well as record the horrors of war in subjective portrayal of events. Military personnaels
felt the most connected and close ot home, through readiging about it in letters. Today, many of these

Just reacently after his discharge, Kerouac wrote his first novel, The Sea is My Brother . The
characters and plot of this novel was based on Kerouac s brief experience in the U.S Navy. Although
the young writer (at that time being 20 years of age) had not served the average amount of service like
most soldiers, the 8 days he had been active, was enough for him to write about it and share what he
had faced.
Soldiers were not the only people who wrote during ww2. It did not have to take a person to fight in
combat, live in trenches or stay at the home front to write about the privation, suffering and the life
conditions of WWII. A group of Canadian poets called the montreal Group were modernist writers
during the mid 1920 s. The members included Leon Edel, John Glassco, A.M.J Smith, Leo Kennedy
and F.K Scott. These men followed a style of writing that s purpose was to break the traditional and
cultural trends in Literature in Canada at that time. They encouraged young poets and other writers to
set high literary standards and study the literature of great artists like T.S Elliot; who is one of the
major poets in the 20th century. A.M.J Smith; known as the theorotrician of the new type of poetry,

Undisputed Letters Dbq
As stated there are many letters said to be written (ascribed) Paul, but were not. There are two major
categories: the undisputed letters of Paul and the disputed pseudonymous letters. Scholars look at the
style of the letter to determine if Paul wrote it. In order to decide whether the letter was written by
Paul or not you must look at history during the time of Paul s letters and compare letters ascribed to
Paul with letters written by others of the same time. According to our class lecture, The Jewish War
happened just as the letters of Paul were beginning to circulate and the gospels were being written
down. Therefore, an understanding of the Jewish war is essential to understanding the New Testament.

The author of Colossians has experienced the resurrection of Christ. How can this be since the
undisputed letters indicate believers have not experienced the resurrection of Christ. Colossians was
written after the resurrection of Christ, therefore Paul did not write it (Ehrman, 444). According to
Ehrman, even more scholars are convinced that Ephesians was not written by Paul just as Second
Thessalonians and Colossians were not written by Paul. The primary issue with Ephesians is the letter
is written to the Saints in Ephesus (Eph1:1). When reviewing the best Greek manuscripts of the letter
it appears that scribes added this later. The original was to the saints who are faithful. The change was
so that those in Ephesus would think the letter was written directly to them (Ehrman, 445). Undisputed
One key characteristic of Paul s letters was they were written to deal with different situations. On
example is the disputes at Corinth. If you look at the undisputed epistles, Paul is addressing issues in
those churches. Those issues are wide ranging. Some of the issues are theological issues and others of
practical problems encountered during that day and time in the church. Paul appears to write with an
urgent need to address each one of

The Voice You Hear When You Read Silent Poem
Thomas Lux is the poet writer of The Voice You Hear When You Read Silently. In The Voice You
Hear When You Read Silently, it is a poem that speaks with the inner voices that you hear when you
are interpreting then it gets into about the words that you remember can trace back memories.
Throughout this poem, Lux demonstrated tone, figure of speech, theme, structure, and imagery.
When Lux composed this poem, he wanted his audience to understand the tone of voice that he was
speaking. Lux had two tones that he was speaking in. For one, in the beginning, Lux was speaking in a
formal tone because in the poem he used you and your . When you and your is beginning used in a

The type of figurative of speech that he used was imagery and metaphor. Lux used imagery and
metaphor because he wants to enhance the description and give the reader a mental image of what
word he is describing. When Lux had used imagery, he is mainly talking about the barn. Some people
hated the barn they knew; some people love the barn they know so you hear the word loaded and
sensory connection. (line 23 25). Lux purpose for saying that quotation is because a different
individual might see a different image how they would think a barn would look. For instance,
someone might think that a barn is brown, and others may think it is red. Additionally, Lux said
another imagery line. By an internal ear informed by internal abstracts and what you know by feeling
(line 13 14). Th purpose that Lux is trying to point out is that when a word is said, it shows an image
that may bring memories. Then for metaphor, Lux began to speak about darkness. Dark cathedral of
your skull (line 11 12). Lux reasoning for saying that is because a dark cathedral might seem to be a
dark quiet place where everyone can hear or speak in their own internal voice. Lux used figuratively
of speech because he wants his readers to understand the visual images that

Ideologies In Mother Courage
Referring to Brecht s time, war was prominent, despair was all around and corruption resided, hand in
hand. People had obviously lost all hope and faith, they just wanted to survive somehow and that
innocent notion is what to led massive corruption. That later turned into selfishness and carelessness,
in short, the battle for survival of the fittest. War led to the growth of business making, war was fought
on the basis of religious bribery, and survival then became dependent on both. In the play Mother
Courage by Brecht, he criticizes all three ideologies, respectively. These three notions are actually
what make her Mother Courage . In scene one she says:

That s how he kept his conscience clear. He always put conscience first.
It s basically all a profit making game, with no care for the fate of the lower classes. But then again, as
Mother Courage pointed out before, people are stupid. Everyone needs a motivation to do something,
and that motivation usually comes with a reward in the name of God and the shape of cash, which
ultimately becomes the easiest and most useful survival scheme. And in case of men, women are also
included in the prize package. The Recruiting Officer lures Eilif in joining the platoons by saying Ten
gilders in advance and you re a soldier of the king and a stout fellow and the women will be mad
about you.
In conclusion we can say how business, religion and survival relate to each other contradicting their

Analysis Of The Movie The Big Sleep
In The Big Sleep, Chandler portrays Marlowe as the knight in shining armor. This establishes a motif
of the stained glass window in General Stern wood s home in the first chapter of the novel and is an
appropriate motif in dictating Marlowe s knightly role in the novel. The stained glass that is reflected
in the novel places Marlowe in the position of the knight as it shows a knight who strives to reach a
woman to set her free. The fact that he stares at the glass makes him develop the need to offer
assistance. This motif is suitable because it sets the stage for what is to take place in the aftermath
when Marlowe rescues Carmen. Secondly, Chandler tries to connect Marlowe with the knightly
personality from the beginning of the novel that he intended to name his detective the modern knight
and a brave man fighting for General Sternwood. He takes the role of the servant to Sternwood s lord
and therefore, in the knightly terms, it is sufficient to say that Marlowe is striving to find justice.
Moreover, he is dedicated to rendering his services in the line of duty with much loyalty and honor
despite the sexual and financial temptations that come his way. Like the ancient knights, Marlowe has
deeply invested in his personal code of chivalry that contain among others, the need to overcome the
sexual temptation of whatever magnitude that comes his way. Lastly, as a representation of the modern
day knight, Marlowe comes out in the novel as a tough detective and a brave individual

A Literary Analysis Of Disney s Aladdin
Literary Analysis of Aladdin Disney s Aladdin is a film that attempts to stereotype and westernize
Arab culture. Using racially inaccurate stereotypes, an inaccurate depiction of The Middle East, as
well as countless cultural generalizations, Aladdin creates a setting of exotic orientalism and
Islamaphobia. [Aladdin depicts...] the Arab world as backwards and irrational, the film s distorted
ethnic representations fuel the western world s fear of alternity and perpetuates dangerous stereotypes.
(Heydt). The stories told in countries such as Arabia, Persia, and Asia were not meant for children, but
for adults. As there were no printed books or written novels, there were those who sole profession was

In the original story, found in The Arabian Nights , Aladdin has no skills and lives with his mother as
his father died very early on due to his grieving over Aladdin s idleness. In this story the vizier is not
the magician who persuades Aladdin into pursuing the lamp, but an African magician who poses as his
uncle. There are two genies in the original tale, one from a lamp and one from a ring, compared to the
one that is in Disney s Aladdin. Aladdin ends up killing the magician; however the magician s brother
swears revenge and poses as a holy woman in order to get close to him. In the end Aladdin also kills
the magician s brother by driving a dagger through his heart and lives happily ever after with the
princess. (The Arabian Nights). While Disney s Aladdin is similar to the original story, it is missing
the traits of a kind, caring mother and the willingness of the princess to wed who her father wanted her
to marry. These are fundamental traits and ideas found in Arab culture that are not seen in the Disney

Sociological Influences On Life
Every individual person in this world has many different sociological influences on their life. All
varying from education, religion, friends, and even the workplace. Some people may have a ton of
things that influence their lives and others may only have a few, all depending on that individual. In
my life particularly, the three biggest societal influences are education, family, and lastly my
extracurricular activities.
Education can be a huge part in some cultures, when it can also be a very small part in some cultures.
Our American culture education is huge. Kids spend their lives in school from when they are four
years old in preschool until they are 18 years as a senior in highschool. Those years are all spent six
hours a day five days a week throughout the year. After high school people have the option to continue
their education and go to college if they would prefer to. College may go upwards to 12 more years
depending on the degree that certain individual is pursuing. In our American Culture it is bad if you
don t have a college degree. People tend to think that people that don t continue to go to college are
not as intelligent when really they could be just as smart as anyone else. There are well over 20
prominent nations, which continue to discriminate against females by preventing them from learning.
In these countries, gender inequality in education not only stifles the development of women, but also
their sense of self worth. In Nepal, only seven percent

My First Obsession Is Life
I have 10 obsessions in life. I m not sure if they will ever go away. But life would be no fun without
any obsessions.
My first obsession is life. I love life and what you can do with it. I love the way people laugh at a joke
or become afraid when watching a scary movie. It amazes me how children feel most safe in their
parents arms. And how you learn so much from how other people before you had lived their life. I
think this one of my obsessions because life can be taken away in a blink of an eye. You never know
when your time is up. So enjoying every second in my eyes is how you ll have the best life possible.
My second obsession is family. I have always loved how families looked in a magazine or on TV. I
love that parents will do anything to make sure their children are loved and safe. And that families do
things together and love each other no matter what. Parents that play outside with the kids and go to
games and concerts. When a child gets hurt, there is a parent there to pick them up. I think this is one
of my obsessions because my mom had me taken away when I was really young. I don t ever
remember her ever picking me up when I fell down or tucking me in at night and kissing me on the
forehead. For a while it was my grandma who did all this but then she got sick, and I had to live with a
family friend, and this is where I still live now. I have always wanted to know what it felt like to have
a happy family. A family that comes to your games because they

Interpretation Of Seismic Data Recorded By Earthquake...
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Motivation
Interpretation of seismic data recorded by earthquake seismographs and that obtained in seismic
reflection surveys conducted in the search for hydrocarbons presents a great challenge. The challenge
lies in constructing appropriate models of the subsurface to extract as many properties of the
subsurface rocks as possible and then solving the associated forward modeling problem followed by
design of suitable inversion methods to extract the desired information. Simple models do not involve
very complex mathematics but yield only limited information about the subsurface. The degree of
mathematical sophistication increases with more realistic models of subsurface rocks.
Simple models of subsurface assume rocks to be homogeneous, isotropic and perfectly elastic. Rocks
actually encountered in the subsurface do not exhibit any of these ideal characteristics. Rocks consist
of a number of minerals with varying properties and grain sizes leading to point to point variation of
their physical properties thus exhibiting a high degree of inhomogeneity.
Even if rocks are regarded as homogeneous on a large scale, they may exhibit directional dependence
of their physical properties. It is known that a stack of thin homogeneous and isotropic layers can be
replaced with a homogeneous but anisotropic medium in which seismic wave velocities differ in the
vertical and horizontal directions. Another situation that leads to anisotropy is the existence of

incorporate the same competitors for men, in addition to about 20 more brands, making it harder to
grab the consumer s attention.

and an eruption of pimples that blister, produce pus, and form pockmarks on the body. The most
common three ways biological weapons work are: One is contact with the skin, two is gastrointestinal,
and three is pulmonary (eku, 2011). Biological weapons are very serious and any country, state, or city
being threatened by this needs to take it very seriously. Not only is this type of weapon hazardous but
it is actually pretty easy to create and get a hold of. Terrorist groups are drawn to easy ways to create
panic and chaos, threatening to release this type of weapon will definitely cause that. A biological
attack can not only cause sickness and death in one particular area, but can also spread from one
country to another due to how easily it can be spread.
Chemical Weapons of Mass Destruction
Chemical weapons are manmade poisons that are made to kill, injure, and incapacitate others. They
are dangerous because they are silent and are often invisible to the naked eye. They typically attack
different parts of the body like skin, lungs, and can make you confused of what is going around you.
Types of chemical weapons include blister agents, blood agents, choking hazard agents, nerve agents,
tear gas, vomiting agents and psychiatric compounds. . These agents can be sarin, arsines, cyanide,

Police Need The Identity Of An Unknown Substance Essay
Introduction
Forensic labs are often called into action when police need the identity of an unknown substance to be
identified as it could be an illicit drug. There are two major types of tests that can be performed. One
is presumptive tests, which indicate the type of substance used, and the other is a confirmatory test,
which actually determines the identity of a substance (Watson, 2008).
Recently, new drugs have appeared in the illegal drug market. The new substances claimed to contain
non Illegal compounds yet still deliver the psychoactive effects desired. This new class of compounds
are now commonly known as SmartDrugs and are distributed through internet commerce or Smart
Shops . Some of the drugs included in the mixtures are cathinones and trytamine analogs of psylocin.
The current method of identification is toxicological screening and is proven to have some
ineffectiveness at identifying the new compounds. However, new advances in mass spectrometry are
expected to broaden the diagnostic spectrum of the toxicological screening, capable of detecting
hundreds of compounds at nanomolar levels. New liquid phase separation techniques are coupled with
the mass spectrometry for high accuracy at identification (Favretto, 2013).
Other than mass spectroscopy, other methods for the identification of unknown inorganic compounds
come from other tests, such as the flame test, solubility test, conductivity test, and pH test. There are
also tests using gravimetric analysis,

Herpes Zoster and the Complications of Post-Herpetic...
Many people can remember to a time when they were a little kid and tiny little red bumps began to
form on different locations of their skin. The small bumps began to spread and began to itch.
Remembering the pink color of the calamine lotion that was used to soothe the itching sensation,
realizing that these bumps were chicken pox. It is common knowledge that once a person contracts
chicken pox and the outbreak clears up, the person will not get an outbreak again. Yet there are
unknown complications that may develop later in life from having the chicken pox. Herpes zoster

This entire process takes anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Shingles often clear up on its own
without any medical assistance or topical creams. Treatments for outbreaks that do not clear up on

person who has an outbreak of Shingles typically only has one to three outbreaks in their lifetime
(Mandell GL., et al, 2009). There have been, however, cases where the scabs disappear yet the pain
continues even after the rash is gone. In some cases, this pain associated with the herpes zoster virus
lasts for years. The continuous pain is called Post herpetic neuralgia (Nordqvist, C., 2009).
Post herpetic neuralgia is a severe pain along the route of a nerve. There have been five features
reported in case studies that is associated to the development of post herpetic neuralgia. These include
age, severity of pain at rash onset, severity of pain, extension of rash at first occurrence, female
gender, and ophthalmic location (Coen, P., et al, 2006). This pain is a result to a change in the
neurological structure and function of that particular nerve. This pain is considered to be non

Testing is Overrated Essay
Students dread the time of the year when they stop with their course material and begin to prepare for
test. Everyone is in agreement that some type of revolution is needed when it comes to education;
eliminating standardized test will aid the reform. The need for standardized testing has proven to be
ineffective and outdated; some leading educationalist also believe this because the tests do not
measure a student s true potential. This will save money, stop labeling, and alleviate stress in students
and teachers.
Now more than ever, money is scarce and one way to increase this money supply is by the elimination
of standardized testing. The cost for standardized testing in 2nd graders is roughly estimated to be
between $2 $4 million, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These tests tend to cause the student s too much stress and puts pressure on them to obtain a certain
score on these test that are required on a yearly basis. Teachers also set aside too much time to teach
strategies for taking the test and lecturing on how to eliminate some choices. According to Kathy
Frandle this is A huge waste of instruction time (Fridy). Furthermore, the unneeded stress generally
leads to a state of anxiety and it is setting too many of them up for devastating failure and,
consequently, lowered self esteem (Perrone).
Each state teaches their students different material at different rates and this is why some states place
pressure of testing companies to dumb down the test (Margie). Each state s tests are created by the
state; therefore, they can make the test as easy as possible to make everyone succeed on it. Some
states have districts in poverty and cannot afford the best textbooks or technologies; therefore, their
students do not reach their potential. When these districts have scores that are too low they do not
receive federal grants; therefore, this puts them into a further bind.
Standardized testing does not occur at the college level where someone might assume that it would be
mandated. When someone is taking a test to enter a college, wouldn t it be logical for a

It s not necessary to change, survival is not mandatory Demming
Lean manufacturing a systematic approach to doing more with less. In other words, Lean, is a method
of increasing the amount of a manufacturer s output, while reducing the amount of resources put in.
Lean is of great interest to manufacturers around the world. Companies of all sizes employ lean
principles to employ large improvements to quality, marketability and customer service.
Lean is a production philosophy, a way of manufacturing a product using less resources. These
principles allow a manufacturer to produce more with less by eliminating waste. Less time, inventory,
capital, resources. This can be accomplished by highlighting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Lean has been applied to many industries and have worked for factories of all sizes. Most factories
have less than 250 employees.
Small batches are used to smooth production flow in the plant.
Total manufacturing effort is divided into value added activities and into non value added activities.
Lean manufacturing aims to reduce the amount of non value added activities. Optimising flow of
production allows manufacturers to reduce the non value added activites and increase the value adding
activities.
History
The idea that reducing waste will save money is not a novel one, so lean manufacturing has actually
been around for hundreds of years, for example the idea of an assembly line far predates the modern
lean manufacturing era. However the modern iteration of lean manufacturing was developed in Japan
by Toyoda, the founder of Toyota. The Toyota Production System was translated to English in 1975
and today is used as the starting point of lean manufacturing worldwide.
Many people believe that the Toyota production system was the beginning of Lean manufacturing.

Essay On The EU As A Promoter Of Preventative Criminal...
In the article, the EU as a Promoter of Preventative Criminal Justice and the Internal Security Context,
Ester Herlin Karnell argues that the European Union (EU) has drifted from the objectives of the first
implementation of the European Area of Freedom, Security, and Justice (AFSJ). The AFSJ was
originally created to promote general EU values such as human rights. However, Herlin Karnell states
that the broad objectives and focus on ensuring a high level of security have left the AFSJ to focus
solely on security while abandoning freedom and justice.
The author discusses the problems of a blurred distinction of internal and external security. As the
world has become more globalized, complex issues that cross both internal and external ... Show more

Three examples are used which show that the broad language used to set up the AFSJ and its focus on
security, have blurred the division between internal and external security. In each of the examples,
money laundering, intelligence, and cybercrime, the EU itself has justified its right to police these
areas using broad definitions in regulations. The author argues that security is too broad and any
situation could be morphed to fit under that large umbrella. Further focus on security without concern
for justice and freedom (the other tenants of the AFSJ) in the author s view, has the potential to
undermine the legitimacy of the union, the system, and the stated goals of justice and human rights
(Herlin Karnell, 2016).
Upon first reading it becomes clear that Herlin Karnell is writing to an audience with a thorough
understanding of the EU and its structure. This results in undefined terms and assumptions about the
bloc as a whole. An individual without a baseline knowledge of the EU would have some difficulty
determining the meaning of some terms and concepts based solely on the writing at hand. The context
of these assumptions is given more justice when we consider that Herlin Karnell is a professor of law
in the Netherlands. An example of undefined terminology that might bring confusion to the reader is
risk based approach and pillar structure found on page 217 (Herlin Karnell, 2016). These

Selective Perception in Paul Haggis Crash
Prejudices are the strong backbone to the concept of racism. They are the labels and images that we
designate to a group of people on the basis of what we imagine to be the characteristics of all members
of that group. More often than not, they are incorrect and incomplete. The film Crash, directed by Paul
Haggis, addresses the strong existence of prejudices against many groups from various perspectives in
today s society. One of the more predominant prejudices presented in Haggis film comes in the form
of selective perception. Selective perception prevents people from seeing the truth of other individuals
because of the labels we place on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is not something easily changed. People who watch Crash are likely to recognize that they
have passed the same kind of judgment on another. Nevertheless, they are likely to continue to do so.
Selective perception doesn t only affect people in the form of determining ones race. It is even more
so present when trying to determine one s character and actions. Just like making wrongful
assumptions of ones race, wrongful assumptions are also made when predicting ones character based
on ethnicity. A person exhibiting selective perception will choose to see a person s character based on
the negative labels that have been condemned to their race, rather then looking at the person as an
individual. This form of prejudice is also very present in Haggis Crash. One of the more notable
examples of it takes place in the conversation between the District Attorney of Los Angeles and his
wife, both of Caucasian descent. The wife wants all of the locks on her house changed after they were
changed by a young Mexican male. She fears that he is in a gang and will sell a copy of the keys to
one of his Homies . As it turns out though, the man is very family oriented and doesn t fit the
judgment of the DA s wife. The wife passed a judgment on the man due to selective perception and
her choice to only see him in a negative way. The wife isn t the only person who places this judgment
on the locksmith. A similar

The “Roaring 20’S” And The “Jazz Age” Produced Great...
The roaring 20 s and the Jazz Age produced great literature. The characters and plots were often held
together by images, ideas, sounds or words that help a reader understand an idea and help to explain
the central idea of a literary work. F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby is full of rich symbols. Like
many of the most interesting symbols, the green light changes and develops its meaning through the
novel. The green light that is displayed at the end of Daisy and Tom s East egg dock, is the symbol of
Gatsby s hopes and dreams. In Chapter 1, Nick observes Gatsby one night: Something in his leisurely
movements and the secure position of his feet upon the lawn suggested that it was Mr. Gatsby himself,

Compared to the great distance that separated him from Daisy it had seemed very near to her, almost
touching her. It had seemed as close as a star to the moon. Now it was again a green light on a dock.
His count of enchanted objects had diminished by one (93). The symbol changes for Gatsby because
the present Daisy is different than the Daisy from the past that he fell in love with in Louisville. In
addition to this strong literary symbol, another great one is Dr. TJ Eckleburg and the Valley of Ashes.
The eyes of Doctor T. J. Eckleburg are: blue and gigantic their retinas are one yard high. They look out
of no face, but, instead, from a pair of enormous yellow spectacles which pass over a nonexistent
nose. Evidently, some wild wag of an oculist set them there to fatten his practice in the borough of
Queens, and then sank down himself into eternal blindness, or forgot them and moved away. But his
eyes dimmed a little by many paintless days under sun and rain, brood on over the solemn dumping
ground (24). Some readers may pick up that the billboard represents God s eyes looking down on the
society judging America s morals.Instead, throughout the novel, Fitzgerald suggests that the mere
essence of Dr. TJ Eckleburg symbolizes deprivation of the American soul. The billboard is placed
there to encourage business; however, it lays untidy and abandoned. Also with the

The Results Of Raising The Dropout Age

The Results of Raising the Dropout Age
Obtaining an education is essential in today s society. Most students who attend school on a regular
basis usually succeed in life. On the other hand, many students fail to attend school every day which
can lead to problems in schools. However, some students have acceptable reasons for dropping out. As
a result, a student s punctuality can ultimately alter his or her education. On that note, dropping out of
high school can affect an individual in many ways throughout the years. Schools are facing challenges
dealing with high dropout rates, high rates of truancy, and low graduation rates because students are
failing to attend school.
To begin with, dropping out of high school has caused a negative uprise leading to high dropout rates.
There are several effects of dropping out of school. Many students have difficult experiences during
their early lives. High school dropouts are more likely to be from households where parents do not
help their children with school. Some students feel there is disconnect between themselves, their
parents, and their teacher; therefore, they end up dropping out of school. However, if parents and
teachers communicate with students, there is a higher chance that the students will graduate and
succeed. Many adults, who dropped out of school, regret dropping out. Since the dropped out of

Sequence And Sequence Of Proteins
Sequence Information of Proteins
Just as members in the same family often resemble each other, similarly structured molecules are often
grouped in the same category. There are several methods of comparing amino acid sequencing and
determining how closely they are related. A simple example is the sequence comparison method.
Sequence databases are searched for a specific amino acid sequence of unknown characteristics. A set
of molecules that are similar in structure can give insight into the properties of the unknown sequence
of amino acids.
To determine the similarity between 2 amino acid sequences, one can apply sequence alignment. This
method aligns the 2 sequences and slides them past each other one amino acid at a time and calculates
what position has the greatest amount of matched residues. However, there is a drawback to this
method in that it does not show all of the possible alignments. To counteract this, one can induce a gap
in one of the sequences to increase the total possibilities of matches. The gap will compensate for the
insertions of deletions of sequences in a gene that is absent in the second sequence.
However, simply comparing the identities of amino acids cannot account for everything. To increase
the accuracy in the comparing two sequences there are 2 kinds of substitutions that can be made to
further progress the determination of amino acids. The first is a conservative substitution which
substitutes one amino acid with another amino acid that is

Self Immolation Essay
On the 11th of June, 1963, a monk named Thích Quảng Đức burned himself alive on a busy
Vietnamese intersection. An action that, in five months time, led to the assassination of the Buddhist
opposing president of the Republic of Vietnam. Self immolation, a form of protest in which one
sacrifices themselves, usually with fire, has returned, and has brought with it a multitude of issues.
First, a bit of history, although the death of Thích Quảng Đức was the first documented case of self
immolation as a form of protest, the concept of burning oneself alive has existed for much longer. The
Ritual of Sati refers to an old and now illegal practice in which a widowed Hindu woman would throw
herself upon the funeral pyre of her husband. The grotesque tradition originated from the myth of Sati,
a Hindu goddess who set herself on fire in retaliation to her husband s humiliation at the hands of her
own father. The first documented case of the ritual can be traced to Madhya Pradesh, where a
commemorative monument was erected in 510 CCE. While self immolation, in this context,
developed into a sexist method of sacrifice, the religious origin expressed it as an act of rebellion.
Buddhism also has strong connections with self immolation, there are many legends of monks who
sacrificed their own bodies for others. In the tale of The Hungry Tigress , a previous incarnation of
Buddha comes across a starving lion who is going to eat her cubs. The tale describes how Buddha
sacrifices his own

The Heart Of A Heart Disappointment
Introduction:
Services Directors for taking care of hearts. Those services will help to have a better quality but with
higher cost.
Ceaseless heart disappointment (CHF) is a perplexing, crippling disorder because of cardiovascular
brokenness that weakens the capacity of the ventricle to load with, or launch, blood. Subsequently,
common side effects, for example, dyspnoea and weariness happen very still or with lessened physical
exertion. CHF regularly comes about because of harm to the myocardium for which the etiology
contrasts as indicated by the populace contemplated. In high salary countries CHF is regularly the
finished result of underlying coronary illness (Cowie 1997). In low to medium salary countries the
disorder is regularly the consequence of longstanding hypertension, cardiomyopathy or rheumatic
coronary illness (Sliwa 2005). This pattern is changing, with the rate and predominance of
atherosclerotic ailment expanding in low to medium wage countries (Yusuf 2001). CHF pushes a
significant trouble on health awareness frameworks, because of the high utilization of human assets
brought on transcendently by rehashed and long admissions to healing facility (Stewart 2002).

Autism Spectrum Divided In The Film Radio
Radio is a film based on the true story of James Robert Kennedy and Coach Harold Jones in the year
1976. The movie shines a very positive light on people with disabilities. A person with a disability is a
person first and if others give them the time and attention, their special characteristics and skills begin
to show and grow. In Radio, Coach Jones gives James, or more popularly known as Radio, the chance
to develop into his greatest potential. Radio begins to have a large supportive network from the town
of Anderson, South Carolina and TL Hanna High School all because of the single actions of Coach
Jones. Coach Jones first noticed Radio wandering around his football practice. One day he catches his
team bullying Radio and he makes sure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were only a few times when Radio was picked on or bullied, but there were so many actors who
fought against it. The whole town and high school fought for Radio s rights. Radio was also much
more of a helping hand rather than an annoyance. There have been many movies when working with a
disabled person was seen as a lot of unreasonable hard work. This is the exact opposite in Radio. Most
of the town people are excited to help with Radio which is seen when many Christmas presents are
given to Radio. The whole town appreciates Radio for who he is and wants to show him that with their
gifts. Also, Radio is an extremely kind and caring person. He forgives many people for their wrong
actions and is all for giving back to the community, as is seen in the scene where he re gifts many of
his gifts to give back to his neighborhood. The movie allows the audience to understand how
important it is to have relationships with individuals with disabilities. Most of their life they are
outcast because something they cannot control at all. Many people with disabilities have so kind and
gentle souls that are never discovered because no one ever opens up to them. Many are also extremely
talented, but again no one gives them the time of day or the support they need to really grow into their
best self. Radio reminds everyone to keep an open mind and an open heart when dealing with people

Legalization Of Prostitution In The United States
Prostitution, is an old occupation, where women are employed in selling sex for money. Money, can
be a key component and motivator to why women become prostitutes. Most of the prostitutes come
from low income backgrounds. Prostitution is a well paying occupation for women. Prostitution
provides increasing income for all prostitutes varying from one another. Many places in United States,
except Nevada, banned prostitution. In the late 1800s, women solicited sex from men for money to
earn profits, which has proceeded over the years. Lower class prostitutes look to sell sex for money to
supplement their income. Some start at a young age to come up with ways to pay for books and
tuitions, without realizing the consequences or danger involved. Prostitution is illegal and most are not
eager to be studied. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
state the number of prostitutes has been estimated to range from 84,000 to 336,000 (Potterat et al,
1990, p. 227). Some prostitutes work part time, and work other legal occupations. According to Thio,
Taylor, Schwartz, there was a recent study, where women from 18 to 64 were asked if they ever had
sex for money. The results concluded that about 6 percent said yes, then the number translated larger
to at least 4.2 million. Many people believe that prostitution is wicked because it contains sex for
money, and considered a sign of social order. Feminists, believe that prostitution provides a setting in
which prostitution is viewed as being robbed, beaten, or raped. The two different beliefs hold negative
views about prostitution. Regardless, prostitution has a variety of different types including
streetwalkers, child and adolescent prostitutes, house prostitutes, and call

The Internet Is The Leading Means Of Communication Worldwide
Malcolm spent his life on the Internet. Sara was tired of hearing the tap, tap of his computer. She
wanted to feel loved, to feel needed, but she wasn t going to get his attention while he was locked
away in the office with that dang computer. There was only one thing for Sara to do, and that was to
get a computer herself. She desire to find someone online that would love her, need her, give her
attention and who would listen to her. There were plenty of websites for finding love.
Sara posted her bio, she was happy with the old photo she had cut out of a magazine. She has come to
the point in her life where she was ready to search for love. The picture didn t look like her so no one
would know. Primary technology rules the world today and many these days relies on the computers
for finding love. Because so many relies on the Internet, the Internet has become the leading means of
communication worldwide. This can be an enormous convenience and a huge problem.
Searching for love on the Internet doesn t always work because many put on a false front and conceal
their true identities. I am not saying that searching for love on the Internet is entirely wrong, but dating
on the web is limited to only the Internet. Meeting a guy face to face also have things that you have to
look out for. Some people turn to the Internet because meeting a guy face to face for some reason
things just keeping going wrong. Many are searching for any form of guide to help ensure a higher

Cultural Competence Of Law Enforcement Agencies
Discussion
Although the questionnaire and interview processes are useful in gaining a better understanding of the
cultural competence of law enforcement agencies, they are not helpful in improving the cultural
competency of those agencies. This is where instituting mandatory cultural competency training
comes into play. For example, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission proposed steps and
recommendations to increase cultural competency and one of those steps was to develop and deploy
effective EEO and diversity/inclusion training for different state and local law enforcement audiences,
including department leadership, human resources, and hiring officials, union leadership, and
individual officers. (Yang, 2015). While this recommendation pertains to hiring practices, it would
also be very beneficial for law enforcement agencies to have trainings. Cultural competency training is
important and would greatly improve relations between law enforcement and the community.
A study by the Pew Research Center found that very few people in the U.S. say police forces do well
in treating people equally. (Pew Research Center, 2014). It is likely that the results from the Pew study
would be similar if the study were limited to Texas. Perhaps the results would be even worse in Texas
in light of the recent incident in which officer Miller shot and killed Christian Taylor. The study
illustrates how poorly the public views law enforcement in regards to treating people equally. Studies

It s time to learn why, and what you can do about it. Fat was practically falling off your body just a
few weeks ago, and now you re wondering if your scale is broken because no matter what you do,
your weight won t budge. What gives? Why did your routine suddenly stop working, and what can
you do to push through this weight loss plateau? Understanding Weight Loss Vs. Fat Loss Weight loss
is a tricky little devil because it doesn t differentiate between changes in fat, muscle, and water. The
goal, of course, is to lose maximum fat and minimum muscle, and to keep water retention at a healthy
minimum. When you step on the scale and register a pound lighter than the day or week before, you
probably assume that you ve lost a pound of fat; if you weigh the same or more, you probably assume
that you ve lost no fat, or gained. Unfortunately, it s not that simple. Nothing swings weight up or
down as easily as water retention, for example. If you eat a lot of sodium and carbs,

The War Of The Soviet Union
As World War II was coming to an end and the Ally armies were converging, two superpowers came
to meet with one another on the outskirts of Berlin. With the momentum that the Red Army was
making against Germany, many in the Allies believed that the Communists would continue to sweep
across Europe. Although united against the greatest evil the world had ever known, both sides of the
opposing economic theories viewed each other as the next enemy after the war. No war ever occurred
between the Soviet Union and the United States, at least not one that was fought with soldiers. A war
of espionage, alliances, and what this essay will focus on; propaganda. Propaganda was second nature
to the Soviet Union, as from its insurrection the Soviet Union worked to convince its population and
the world of how it s system of economic governance was the better solution. This propaganda can
take the form of any type of media, such as: pamphlets and flyers, radio and television, and film and
animations or even word of mouth. It can be created to bolster one s own goals, to discredit the goals
of others, or a combination of both. As you will see in the following propaganda campaigns, it is
common for pro communist pieces to bolster its perception while damaging the beliefs of capitalism.
Some propaganda may be truthful, however often a fact of such material is that hyperboles or straight
out lies are used to give your position the stronger claim. While in this essay I will not analyze the

Scene Analysis of The Green Mile Essay
The film The Green Mile was originally written by Stephen King and later directed by Frank
Darabont. It is based on the guards and inmates of a penitentiary s Death Row during the great
depression. There is a certain monotony that comes with working on Death Row and Paul Edgecomb,
played by Tom Hanks, has become numb to the fact that he is paid to take lives; that is until John
Coffey gets sentenced to death and is sent to Paul s green mile . John Coffey is a very large black man
that was accused of rape and murder of two little girls, and in the 1930 s having charges like that
brought upon you was grounds for the death penalty, especially for a black man in the south. Through
the movie we see that although large in nature, John is quite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Jingles. Quite a lot of time has passed in the movie from Paul on the Green Mile to Paul in the nursing
home, this is referred to as cinematic time. He has walked with another resident, Elaine who is a minor
character, out to an old shed on location filled with objects of the past, usual things found in a shed but
they were all covered in dust. Just that screen shot of the two elderly people juxtaposed together to
create a composition that plays off of each other is very powerful in itself. The book The Philosophy
of Language Film Analysis explains to us that these types of scenarios, elderly people in an old
building, help to create a really strong scene and help the movie a lot. If we has seen Paul and Elaine
walk into a brand new mansion the effect of Paul s suffering would not be understood. The next shot is
of both Paul and Elaine getting down on the old wood floor and are playing with Mr. Jingles. Then
Paul starts explaining the details of the story to Elaine and they go back and forth conversing. He is
explaining to her that he was cursed for killing a miracle of God and his punishment is to stay alive
while those around him that he loves must die. Both he and Mr. Jingles got a piece of John Coffey
when they had their little encounters with him, and together they must go on. We see three different
shots throughout the majority of this scene. First it goes back and forth with shot and reverse shot as

Taking a Look at the City of Atlanta
Revenue Trends
With the continued sluggish economy, Atlanta s total revenue projections continue to decline from the
budget dating back to 2010 when the current mayor Kasim Reed took office. The City s property tax
base is the primary component accounting for 40% of the City s general fund revenues. Property tax
revenues have continued to experience declines associated with decreased residential tax bases,
negative reassessments, successful tax appeals and continued weakness in the housing market. The
City has demonstrated a measured response by continuing to budget property tax revenue collection
conservatively. To meet the projections, the collection rate in the proposed budget was set to rise to
98%, up from the previous year s collection rate of 96% (Pendered 2013). Public utility, alcoholic
beverages and other taxes are the second largest revenue source, at 23% resulting from franchise
agreements of the use of the City s right of way in providing public utilities such as
telecommunications, gas and electric and from taxes imposed on businesses operating in the City of
Atlanta. Sales tax revenue is the third largest share of general fund revenues accounting for nearly
20% of revenue anticipations. Sales tax revenue is extremely flexible due to changes in economic
performance associated with disposable income and unemployment levels. Despite still declining
revenues, the budget avoids service cuts and property tax hikes, while adding about a million dollars

Dentistry College Essay
With dentistry having a positive job outlook, many people are working to meet certain requirements to
become a dentist in the United States. The first step to becoming a dentist in America is to graduate
from high school and enroll in a four year college or university (Educational Requirements for
Dentists). While at a four year college, one must then obtain a bachelor s degree and take classes that
will prepare them for dental school. Some colleges may offer pre dentistry as a major, but if not one

One group of people that are essential to a dentist and to a dental office are dental hygienists. Dental
hygienists work very closely aligned with dentists for the overall health of patients (Dental
Hygienists). These individuals have the responsibility of screening patients, taking dental x rays,
removing plaque from a patient s teeth, applying preventative materials, teaching patients appropriate
dental procedures, counseling patients about the importance of good nutrition, making impressions of
teeth for any reason, and helping with office and administrative tasks. Dental hygienists have the
advantages of being able to work with a wide variety of people, being able to have flexible work
hours, and the security that they will have a job due to the wide importance of dental health and the
positive outlook of their job, which is much higher than that of the average job (Dental Hygienists). To
become a dental hygienist, one must only have an associate s degree and receive a license from their
state (Dental Hygienists: Summary). Like dentists, the salary for a dental hygienist varies for
everyone. Dental hygienists on average make around $70, 200 a year. These individuals also have
many benefits that come along with their job. Some of these benefits could include retirement,

I don t get much time to follow the motorsport statistics and how the real world is doing in the motorsport but I play a lot of games for example, NASCAR Sprint Cup, Formula One, Moto GP, Need for Speed and Forza Motorsport. When I visited the drag racing event in Terre Haute, I become more interested in Drag racing. In some point in my life after finishing up college and having a stable career, I like to get more involved in F1 powerboat racing in Florida. It is more fun and water motorsport is something really of my interest. In general, I like to be involved in all kinds of water sports. Formula one Powerboat racing is my favorite and the most interesting part which fascinates me about it is the speed on the water. It is the fast race on the water in the world. According the Formula One H2o website, it states that Powerboats runs faster than even the formula one race cars and the F1 boats are capable of going from 0 to 160 kilometers per hour in only 4 seconds (F1H2o). It is great as this is independent from anyone else, the F1 speed boats contend at these velocities without the utilization of brakes or riggings. There are two major categories: the undisputed letters of Paul and the disputed pseudonymous letters. Scholars look at the style of the letter to determine if Paul wrote it. In order to decide whether the letter was written by Paul or not you must look at history during the time of Paul s letters and compare letters ascribed to Paul with letters written by others of the same time. Therefore, an understanding of the Jewish war is essential to understanding the New Testament. Scholars as well as Iliff students ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author of Colossians has experienced the resurrection of Christ. How can this be since the undisputed letters indicate believers have not experienced the resurrection of Christ. Colossians was written after the resurrection of Christ, therefore Paul did not write it (Ehrman, 444). According to Ehrman, even more scholars are convinced that Ephesians was not written by Paul just as Second Thessalonians and Colossians were not written by Paul. The primary issue with Ephesians is the letter is written to the Saints in Ephesus (Eph1:1). When reviewing the best Greek manuscripts of the letter it appears that scribes added this later. The original was to the saints who are faithful. The change was so that those in Ephesus would think the letter was written directly to them (Ehrman, 445). Undisputed One key characteristic of Paul s letters was they were written to deal with different situations. On example is the disputes at Corinth. If you look at the undisputed epistles, Paul is addressing issues in those churches. Those issues are wide ranging. Some of the issues are theological issues and others of practical problems encountered during that day and time in the church. Paul appears to write with an urgent need to address each one of ... The type of figurative of speech that he used was imagery and metaphor. When Lux had used imagery, he is mainly talking about the barn. Some people hated the barn they knew; some people love the barn they know so you hear the word loaded and sensory connection. (line 23 25). Lux purpose for saying that quotation is because a different individual might see a different image how they would think a barn would look. For instance, someone might think that a barn is brown, and others may think it is red. Additionally, Lux said another imagery line. By an internal ear informed by internal abstracts and what you know by feeling (line 13 14). That later turned into selfishness and carelessness, in short, the battle for survival of the fittest. War led to the growth of business making, war was fought on the basis of religious bribery, and survival then became dependent on both. In the play Mother Courage by Brecht, he criticizes all three ideologies, respectively. These three notions are actually what make her Mother Courage . • 13. Analysis Of The Movie The Big Sleep In The Big Sleep, Chandler portrays Marlowe as the knight in shining armor. This establishes a motif of the stained glass window in General Stern wood s home in the first chapter of the novel and is an appropriate motif in dictating Marlowe s knightly role in the novel. The stained glass that is reflected in the novel places Marlowe in the position of the knight as it shows a knight who strives to reach a woman to set her free. The fact that he stares at the glass makes him develop the need to offer assistance. This motif is suitable because it sets the stage for what is to take place in the aftermath when Marlowe rescues Carmen. Secondly, Chandler tries to connect Marlowe with the knightly personality from the beginning of the novel that he intended to name his detective the modern knight and a brave man fighting for General Sternwood. He takes the role of the servant to Sternwood s lord and therefore, in the knightly terms, it is sufficient to say that Marlowe is striving to find justice. Moreover, he is dedicated to rendering his services in the line of duty with much loyalty and honor despite the sexual and financial temptations that come his way. Like the ancient knights, Marlowe has deeply invested in his personal code of chivalry that contain among others, the need to overcome the sexual temptation of whatever magnitude that comes his way. All varying from education, religion, friends, and even the workplace. Some people may have a ton of things that influence their lives and others may only have a few, all depending on that individual. In my life particularly, the three biggest societal influences are education, family, and lastly my extracurricular activities. Education can be a huge part in some cultures, when it can also be a very small part in some cultures. Our American culture education is huge. Kids spend their lives in school from when they are four years old in preschool until they are 18 years as a senior in highschool. Those years are all spent six hours a day five days a week throughout the year. After high school people have the option to continue their education and go to college if they would prefer to. College may go upwards to 12 more years depending on the degree that certain individual is pursuing. In our American Culture it is bad if you don t have a college degree. People tend to think that people that don t continue to go to college are not as intelligent when really they could be just as smart as anyone else. And how you learn so much from how other people before you had lived their life. I think this one of my obsessions because life can be taken away in a blink of an eye. You never know when your time is up. So enjoying every second in my eyes is how you ll have the best life possible. My second obsession is family. I have always loved how families looked in a magazine or on TV. I love that parents will do anything to make sure their children are loved and safe. And that families do things together and love each other no matter what. Parents that play outside with the kids and go to games and concerts. When a child gets hurt, there is a parent there to pick them up. I think this is one of my obsessions because my mom had me taken away when I was really young. I don t ever remember her ever picking me up when I fell down or tucking me in at night and kissing me on the forehead. For a while it was my grandma who did all this but then she got sick, and I had to live with a family friend, and this is where I still live now. • 17. Interpretation Of Seismic Data Recorded By Earthquake... CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Motivation Interpretation of seismic data recorded by earthquake seismographs and that obtained in seismic reflection surveys conducted in the search for hydrocarbons presents a great challenge. The challenge lies in constructing appropriate models of the subsurface to extract as many properties of the subsurface rocks as possible and then solving the associated forward modeling problem followed by design of suitable inversion methods to extract the desired information. Simple models do not involve very complex mathematics but yield only limited information about the subsurface. The degree of mathematical sophistication increases with more realistic models of subsurface rocks. Simple models of subsurface assume rocks to be homogeneous, isotropic and perfectly elastic. Rocks actually encountered in the subsurface do not exhibit any of these ideal characteristics. Rocks consist of a number of minerals with varying properties and grain sizes leading to point to point variation of their physical properties thus exhibiting a high degree of inhomogeneity. Even if rocks are regarded as homogeneous on a large scale, they may exhibit directional dependence of their physical properties. It is known that a stack of thin homogeneous and isotropic layers can be replaced with a homogeneous but anisotropic medium in which seismic wave velocities differ in the vertical and horizontal directions. Another situation that leads to anisotropy is the existence of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Police Need The Identity Of An Unknown Substance Essay Introduction Forensic labs are often called into action when police need the identity of an unknown substance to be identified as it could be an illicit drug. There are two major types of tests that can be performed. One is presumptive tests, which indicate the type of substance used, and the other is a confirmatory test, which actually determines the identity of a substance (Watson, 2008). Recently, new drugs have appeared in the illegal drug market. The new substances claimed to contain non Illegal compounds yet still deliver the psychoactive effects desired. This new class of compounds are now commonly known as SmartDrugs and are distributed through internet commerce or Smart Shops . Some of the drugs included in the mixtures are cathinones and trytamine analogs of psylocin. The current method of identification is toxicological screening and is proven to have some ineffectiveness at identifying the new compounds. However, new advances in mass spectrometry are expected to broaden the diagnostic spectrum of the toxicological screening, capable of detecting hundreds of compounds at nanomolar levels. New liquid phase separation techniques are coupled with the mass spectrometry for high accuracy at identification (Favretto, 2013). Furthermore, the unneeded stress generally leads to a state of anxiety and it is setting too many of them up for devastating failure and, consequently, lowered self esteem (Perrone). The AFSJ was originally created to promote general EU values such as human rights. However, Herlin Karnell states that the broad objectives and focus on ensuring a high level of security have left the AFSJ to focus solely on security while abandoning freedom and justice. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Three examples are used which show that the broad language used to set up the AFSJ and its focus on security, have blurred the division between internal and external security. In each of the examples, money laundering, intelligence, and cybercrime, the EU itself has justified its right to police these areas using broad definitions in regulations. The author argues that security is too broad and any situation could be morphed to fit under that large umbrella. Further focus on security without concern for justice and freedom (the other tenants of the AFSJ) in the author s view, has the potential to undermine the legitimacy of the union, the system, and the stated goals of justice and human rights (Herlin Karnell, 2016). Upon first reading it becomes clear that Herlin Karnell is writing to an audience with a thorough understanding of the EU and its structure. This results in undefined terms and assumptions about the bloc as a whole. An individual without a baseline knowledge of the EU would have some difficulty determining the meaning of some terms and concepts based solely on the writing at hand. More often than not, they are incorrect and incomplete. The film Crash, directed by Paul Haggis, addresses the strong existence of prejudices against many groups from various perspectives in today s society. It is even more so present when trying to determine one s character and actions. Just like making wrongful assumptions of ones race, wrongful assumptions are also made when predicting ones character based on ethnicity. A person exhibiting selective perception will choose to see a person s character based on the negative labels that have been condemned to their race, rather then looking at the person as an individual. This form of prejudice is also very present in Haggis Crash. One of the more notable examples of it takes place in the conversation between the District Attorney of Los Angeles and his wife, both of Caucasian descent. The wife wants all of the locks on her house changed after they were changed by a young Mexican male. She fears that he is in a gang and will sell a copy of the keys to one of his Homies . • 37. Sequence And Sequence Of Proteins Sequence Information of Proteins Just as members in the same family often resemble each other, similarly structured molecules are often grouped in the same category. There are several methods of comparing amino acid sequencing and determining how closely they are related. A simple example is the sequence comparison method. Sequence databases are searched for a specific amino acid sequence of unknown characteristics. A set of molecules that are similar in structure can give insight into the properties of the unknown sequence of amino acids. To determine the similarity between 2 amino acid sequences, one can apply sequence alignment. This method aligns the 2 sequences and slides them past each other one amino acid at a time and calculates what position has the greatest amount of matched residues. However, there is a drawback to this method in that it does not show all of the possible alignments. To counteract this, one can induce a gap in one of the sequences to increase the total possibilities of matches. The gap will compensate for the insertions of deletions of sequences in a gene that is absent in the second sequence. However, simply comparing the identities of amino acids cannot account for everything. To increase the accuracy in the comparing two sequences there are 2 kinds of substitutions that can be made to further progress the determination of amino acids. The first is a conservative substitution which substitutes one amino acid with another amino acid that is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Self Immolation Essay On the 11th of June, 1963, a monk named Thích Quảng Đức burned himself alive on a busy Vietnamese intersection. An action that, in five months time, led to the assassination of the Buddhist opposing president of the Republic of Vietnam. Self immolation, a form of protest in which one sacrifices themselves, usually with fire, has returned, and has brought with it a multitude of issues. First, a bit of history, although the death of Thích Quảng Đức was the first documented case of self immolation as a form of protest, the concept of burning oneself alive has existed for much longer. The Ritual of Sati refers to an old and now illegal practice in which a widowed Hindu woman would throw herself upon the funeral pyre of her husband. The grotesque tradition originated from the myth of Sati, a Hindu goddess who set herself on fire in retaliation to her husband s humiliation at the hands of her own father. The first documented case of the ritual can be traced to Madhya Pradesh, where a commemorative monument was erected in 510 CCE. While self immolation, in this context, developed into a sexist method of sacrifice, the religious origin expressed it as an act of rebellion. Buddhism also has strong connections with self immolation, there are many legends of monks who sacrificed their own bodies for others. In the tale of The Hungry Tigress , a previous incarnation of Buddha comes across a starving lion who is going to eat her cubs. The tale describes how Buddha sacrifices his own ... • 45. Cultural Competence Of Law Enforcement Agencies Discussion Although the questionnaire and interview processes are useful in gaining a better understanding of the cultural competence of law enforcement agencies, they are not helpful in improving the cultural competency of those agencies. This is where instituting mandatory cultural competency training comes into play. For example, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission proposed steps and recommendations to increase cultural competency and one of those steps was to develop and deploy effective EEO and diversity/inclusion training for different state and local law enforcement audiences, including department leadership, human resources, and hiring officials, union leadership, and individual officers. (Yang, 2015). While this recommendation pertains to hiring practices, it would also be very beneficial for law enforcement agencies to have trainings. Cultural competency training is important and would greatly improve relations between law enforcement and the community. A study by the Pew Research Center found that very few people in the U.S. say police forces do well in treating people equally. (Pew Research Center, 2014). It is likely that the results from the Pew study would be similar if the study were limited to Texas. Why did your routine suddenly stop working, and what can you do to push through this weight loss plateau? Understanding Weight Loss Vs. Fat Loss Weight loss is a tricky little devil because it doesn t differentiate between changes in fat, muscle, and water. The goal, of course, is to lose maximum fat and minimum muscle, and to keep water retention at a healthy minimum. When you step on the scale and register a pound lighter than the day or week before, you probably assume that you ve lost a pound of fat; if you weigh the same or more, you probably assume that you ve lost no fat, or gained. Unfortunately, it s not that simple. Nothing swings weight up or down as easily as water retention, for example. If you eat a lot of sodium and carbs, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With the momentum that the Red Army was making against Germany, many in the Allies believed that the Communists would continue to sweep across Europe. This propaganda can take the form of any type of media, such as: pamphlets and flyers, radio and television, and film and animations or even word of mouth. It can be created to bolster one s own goals, to discredit the goals of others, or a combination of both. As you will see in the following propaganda campaigns, it is common for pro communist pieces to bolster its perception while damaging the beliefs of capitalism. Taking a Look at the City of Atlanta Revenue Trends With the continued sluggish economy, Atlanta s total revenue projections continue to decline from the budget dating back to 2010 when the current mayor Kasim Reed took office. The City s property tax base is the primary component accounting for 40% of the City s general fund revenues. Property tax revenues have continued to experience declines associated with decreased residential tax bases, negative reassessments, successful tax appeals and continued weakness in the housing market. The City has demonstrated a measured response by continuing to budget property tax revenue collection conservatively. To meet the projections, the collection rate in the proposed budget was set to rise to 98%, up from the previous year s collection rate of 96% (Pendered 2013). Public utility, alcoholic beverages and other taxes are the second largest revenue source, at 23% resulting from franchise agreements of the use of the City s right of way in providing public utilities such as telecommunications, gas and electric and from taxes imposed on businesses operating in the City of Atlanta. Sales tax revenue is the third largest share of general fund revenues accounting for nearly 20% of revenue anticipations.
