CAUSES AND EFFECTS OF VOLKSWAGEN COURT SETTLEMENT
Although many individuals are unaware of the TDI diesel emissions court settlement between
Volkswagen and their customers; there are two causes and several effects. John German discovered
the Volkswagen emissions scandal. It turns out that, the lawsuit came about due to cheating
software that Volkswageninstalled in their 2.0 and 3.0 liter diesel vehicles. In turn, a few effects of
the cheating software resulted in a 14.7 billion dollar lawsuit between Volkswagen and their buyers,
disappointed customers, and huge inconveniences (Bartlett,2017). Due to the software installed in
TDI diesel vehicles, there are up to 11 million vehicles affected.
In May of 2014, John German discovered, and went public about the Volkswagen emissions scandal
(Kretchmer, 2015). John German is a senior co lead for the International Council on Clean
Transportation. Mr. German has worked for the Washington based Environmental Protection
Agency for 13 years, which indicates that he knows what the requirements and enforcement are.
German partnered with West Virginia University and conducted the ICCT study. During the ICCT
study, German noticed detrimental nitrogen oxide emission levels; which leads him to think
Volkswagen diesel cars were malfunctioning. German felt vehicles were malfunctioning because
they were passing emissions testing, yet the vehicles had up to 35 times permitted levels of nitrogen

The first shot in the clip is a close up of the blank stare on Ben s face, against the white
background of the airplane seat. This shot looks like a mugshot which symbolizes how Ben

The fingerprint scanner that is incorporated in our phones nowadays is an easy way to accesses
them. It amazes me how not a single other person shares my same fingerprint. In the same way,
not a single human in this world shares the exact same social identity as me. Personally, I have
come to be who I am today by the process of thinking, reasoning and forming my own opinions.
Allow me to introduce myself. I am a male Latino college student with a middle class socio
economic status that is getting an undergraduate double major in Robotics and Electrical and
Computer Engineering here at WPI. I am part of the 8.2% Latino community of WPI. I come

John Hubner s Last Chance in Texas focuses on the boys and girls who go to Giddings State
School to establish that they aren t just criminals. The story doesn t just focus on the students
lives, but students who are trying to reform by transitioning from an unstable environment to a
stable one. Giddings State School has two sections based on gender roles that demonstrate the
students properly transitioning into a citizen. In the first section of the book, boys are not
supposed to express their feelings because its culture is frowned upon, so it takes longer for
boys to relive and move forward in their recovery. In the second part of the book, it s shorter
because girls are socially acceptable so it takes less time to display emotions. In the beginning of
chapter9, it starts out with the Parents of Murdered Children go to Giddings State School to discuss

Nesbits to the facility to speak to the girls about Katy which led the girls into understanding that

Bub is extremely apprehensive about Robert being in his house. Bub is not only uneasy about the
man because he is a stranger but more so that he is blind.
Bub s wife had read for Robert ten years prior to the visit and the two had kept in touch by sending
videos to each other. Bub s wife, however, does not share in his discrimination of blind people. She
felt that working for Robert was something extraordinarily meaningful that had happened in her life.
Although Robert has just lost his wife, this is no excuse for Bub to show any courtesy to the
man; after all he is a stranger. He even jokes with his wife about taking the man bowling. Bub
finds it hard to believe that a woman, Beulah, Robert s wife, would want to marry a blind man.
