Acoustic Characteristics Of Courtship And Agonistic...
Why was the study Acoustic characteristics of courtship and agonistic vocalizations in
Przwewalskii s horse and in domestic horse (Alberghina et al. 2015) carried out and what
benefits has it brought to the research area? The study in question seeks to analyse the
difference between the vocalisation of 2 species of the genus Equus in order to develop a deeper
understanding of morphological factors affecting the sounds the animals make which in turn
may provide data that then allows further research into evolutionary divergence. The two species
are very similar but are different slightly at both a physical and genetic level. These species have
different chromatic numbers yet are so closely related that they can produce fertile offspring as
documented by Bennett and Hoffman (1999). Domestic horses only exist as they are due to
human intervention and so the divergence of domestic horses from their wild counterparts is
fairly recent in evolutionary terms. This makes the study valuable not only in adding to the
limited research on Przwewalskii vocalizations but also to further evolutionary biology. Equally
its findings may also set a precedent for differences in vocalisations between other closely
related species as referenced to in the text are studies on different animals of which some are
only very distantly related to horses, even so far as to include a reference to a study on different
species clownfish (Colleye et al. 2011). This essay aims to summarize and critically

Informative Speech About Brutus
You have just been elected president of the united states. Congratulations, just about everyone
voted for you. You re going to be inaugurated today, how exciting. Your best friend, who you have
known as long as you can remember, is coming over with some of his friends to hang out before
you re officially president. They arrive and you re having a fine time, though a little confusing,
when all the sudden one of them stabs you. You reach out for your best friend s support, but they
just stab you as well. This is basically the last day of Caesars life. He was stabbed to deathby those
he trusted, his best friend Brutus was one of the betrayers. Some try to justify Brutus actions by
saying that he was trying to save Rome from a power hungry leader . But Brutus said himself
that, [he has] not known when his [Caesar s] affections swayed more than his reason. So from this
we know that Caesar was not ambitious. The actions of Brutus were so severe that they even
started a sort of civil warin Rome, ending countless lives and putting others in danger. So even if he
didn t mean to be, Brutus was definitely a betrayer.
Those who disagree may say Brutus was trying to do what was best for Rome. They believe his
thinking is that once Caesar had power he would abuse it, as many do. This was his attempt to
save Rome from a power hungry, enslaving ruler. However, Brutus himself said that: [he has] not
known when his [Caesar s] affections swayed more than his reason. This shows that

Persona Personal Mission Statement
Throughout my life, my father instilled toughness and a will to succeed that I have carried
throughout the years. I always pushed myself to prove others wrong. I am very competitive and
transitioned that fire into my work. When I first entered into the bar business, I was just a
bartender, in three years I became owner/manager and I had one of the most successful nightclubs
in North Omaha. Soon, I got tired of the nightlife and I began the shift to prepare myself for a new
profession. A personal Strategy is how a person navigates his/her surrounding landscape to achieve
his/her objectives. Requires a clear understanding and definition of his/her strengths and
competitive advantages (Rumao, 2014, P.5). Basically, It is a career strategy to help an individual

Caribbean Integration
CARIBBEAN POLITICS and SOCIETY
Caribbean Integration
Rationale for Integration.
The Caribbean remains fragmented both economically and politically as a result of competition
and conflict among the European powers. Fragmentation is in part the product of a long history
as separate colonies of a metropolitan power or powers. It is also in part the psychological effects
on people of separation by sea.
The case for regional integration is both simple and irrefutable. First we are small and we need to
achieve economies of scale. We need to achieve such economies in markets, production, the
mobilisation of regional capital for regional use, university education, science and technology, sea
and air transport to mention some areas.

Psychological Dependence on the outside world
In spite of our achievements in many fields of endeavour, we still have a strong sense of
psychological dependence on things external particularly North American, Europe, and some of the
bigger countries of Latin America. We still (as good ex colonials) see big countries in the
hemisphere and in Europe as being some sense better (intrinsincally and not just economically) than
out individual countries and the other West Indian countries and we sometimes carry this
perception into the field of international relations.

Ohana Language Conventions
Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen and thank you for this opportunity to share with you today.
I am honoured to discuss with you the effectiveness, in regards to technology and language
conventions, of the short film Ohana. With the intention of creating a film that brought to light
serious issues whilst upholding a prodigious standard as a production, this film was successful as
such through the plentiful access to various technologies as well as the implementation of
language conventions and codes. To begin with, we will be viewing Ohana for the purpose of its
reference later on. Media: Ohana In the viewing of any production, the director s input is palpable
as unique and is often attributed to the director s auteur style. The Auteur Theory in which this
notion derives from is attributed to François Truffaut as he wrote about it an essay entitled A
Certain Tendency in French Cinema. In this essay, Truffaut claimed that directors are able to
express their personal ideas in the greatest medium of contemporary society: film. He is often
quoted as saying There are no good and bad movies, only good and bad directors (Australian

Due to inexperience and naivety in regards to camera movement, the intended results were unable
to be achieved and thus not included in the final production. Camera movement, as a convention,
was not able to be utilised in an effortless manner with attempts appearing as jerky and without
fluid motion. Therefore, as these shots were distracting and ineffective, they were not included in
the final version of Ohana. This disclusion had no detrimental effect on the production however did
limit some of the opportunities for camera movement and perhaps did not allow for a complex
range of shots. This, in turn, had somewhat of an impact on the

Blood Vengeance In Beowulf
Vengeance in Beowulf
While both blood feuds and wergild deal with murder, a blood feud requires a death for a death,
while wergild uses gold to make amends. When looking at this in a biblical perspective, it is
important to understand how these relate to justice. Biblical justice is a far cry from revenge.
Vengeance, however, takes the shape of both blood feuds and wergild, and while blood feuds are
fueled by revenge, wergild is important to bring justice in Beowulf s society. Vengeance in Beowulf
takes two main forms: the blood feuds, such as that of Grendel s mother, and the concept of
wergild; only wergild, however, conforms to the biblical definition of justice. Blood feuds play an
important role in Beowulf, if only to contrast with the idea of wergild. A blood feudtook place
when someone killed someone else, and the victim s family had the right and responsibility to
kill the murderer. However, this is not justice; it is revenge, often causing a deep and
uncontrollable split in a society. In Beowulf, this is only referred to once, when Grendel is killed,
and Grendel s mother comes, desperate for revenge, intent on avenging Grendel s death ( Beowulf,
69). While Grendel s mother could be seen as restoring justice, this blood feud only brought more
death and revenge. There were few rules or regulations, and revenge was often personal. Indeed, the
old testament blood feuds were more closely aligned with wergild, in that weregild was not wild
justice or a step outside

The Health Insurance Portability And Accountability Act
Introduction
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) indicates that HIPAA violations have been
generally increasing throughout the years. Now that electronically maintained patient information
exists, it has become increasingly difficult to limit information sharing in a manner that guarantees
usage for its intended genesis. Personal information travels across several channels, to include
healthcare providers, third party payers, and other business associates. Few controls exist to
regulate how this information is maintained, or disseminated. If state law or local legislation does
not forbid accessing patient health records or sharing patient information, any information held by
a provider or business associate could be passed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Four years after HITECH, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued the
Omnibus Rule to strengthen the movement toward more efficient healthcare delivery, providing
national standards to protect the privacy and security of personal health information, and
establishing rules governing the compliance responsibilities of covered entities (Jenkins, Merz
Sankar, 2005). The Rule took effect on March 26, 2013.
The Rule implemented changes to HIPAA s Privacy, Security, and Enforcement Rules mandated by
HITECH, modified the Breach Notification Rule, and finalized revisions to HIPAA s Privacy Rule
to strengthen protections for genetic information. It contains a preemption provision to supersede
conflicting provisions of state law. The Rule requires that covered entities and business associates
modify their policies to reflect these new changes and offers formal assurances to patients that
entities are required to protect personal information by establishing additional standards to better
manage and safeguard health information. The Rule revises provisions of older legislation to
strengthen further the privacy and security protections of individuals personal health information.
In addition, it reinforces the government s ability to enforce penalties on all those who violate the
law, proportional to the level of negligence. The Rule clarifies ambiguities in previous regulations

The Confederate Battle Flag Controversy Politicians throughout the United States are debating
whether or not the Confederate flag should be allowed to be on the Mississippi state flag. The flag
is the center of much controversy. People argue that the Confederate flag is a symbol of racism and
hate and that it should not be allowed to be used in public places let alone on a state flag. While
others will argue that it is a piece of history and that it honors the soldiers that died in the civil
war; it is a symbol of southern pride. The confederate flag has been argued over for many years,
dating all the way back to the 1800 s, but the heat of the debate sparked up in 1962. (PBS, Web.

why to be a chemical engineer

English III
10 November 2014
Why Chemical Engineering? Individuals take engineering as something distance to their lives due
to rigorous courses to get through. As some would say that it is not worth it, other clever
individuals have figured this out. To be a chemical engineer, an individual explores and takes on
other sciences to create important products to better peoples lives. As Mark and Sherri Devaney
stated, ...Chemical Engineers are charged primarily with finding ways to put science and
engineering principles to work... with their purpose being, ...to help corporations and organizations
create useful, cost effective products that will benefit consumers... .(pg. 43) As it was brought up

But this is a life issue, not an engineering issue. (n.pag) With actual experience and not statistics
with studies, this valuable advice could prepare an applicant to be disciplined in a different
category than engineering itself, therefore, expanding their diversity of knowledge and
interaction. These could truly be attributes an applicant would want to desire even if they didn t
decide to pursue chemical engineering. In chemical engineering, an applicant would not only
want to submerse themselves in complete knowledge of chemical engineering, but also in
learning qualifications that could get them noticed and hired. To be a chemical engineer, an
applicant should not be only strong in the occupation itself, but also in their interaction and
sociability. A chemical engineer informs a group of applicants by stating, A lot of my work is
team oriented. I work with a few other people and we all depend on each other to bring certain
results or knowledge to the group as a whole so that we can accomplish our overall goal. (n.pag)
By having interactive qualities, it is clear and also postulated that one cannot be an introverted
person when looking to get hired. By actual accounts of a chemical engineer, he postulates and
informs applicants that, All engineers must at some point (if not nearly always) work as part of a
group or team, and all engineers must be able to communicate the results of their work to their
peers, supervisors, upper management, subordinates, and

Battle Of The Potomac Thesis
The Army of the Potomac Famous members and history of the regiment The Army of the
Potomac was created in 1861. It was the first corps legalized in the U.S. during the beginning of
the Civil War. The center of the Army of the Potomac was called the Army of Northeast Virginia,
commanded by Brig.Gen. Irvin Mcdowell. They fought the Battle of Bull Run under Mcdowell
and lost. Soon after the loss, the Union Army had a change of plans for the leadership of the Army
of the Potomac. They appointed Major General George B. McClellan, who had plans to

As the Army of the Potomac held off the Confederates from attempting to make their way
through the North, it was Mclellan s last major battle while he was the commander of the Army
of the Potomac. On November 9th, 1862, the Union decided to appoint Major General Ambrose
Burnside. He was not in command for long because he didn t shine in his opportunity against the
Confederates in the Battle of Fredericksburg. After a crushing defeat at the battle of
Fredericksburg, the Union made a quick change of command by appointing Major General
Joseph Hooker. They thought he could get the Union to get back on a roll, but they thought
wrong. Against General Robert E. Lee, the Army of the Potomac didn t fare so well. With
another wrong choice of a strong commander who could not lead them to victory, they hand
picked Major General George G. Meade. He was picked only days before the most important
battle in the Civil War at Gettysburg. While the Army of the Potomac was holding off the final
push of the confederates into the North, Meade got his first victory under his belt as the
Commander of the Army of the Potomac at Gettysburg. With this victory, the Union knew that
Meade had the skills required to lead the Army of the Potomac. Meade and his army cruised to
victory while handing the Confederates losses left and right. He later witnessed the surrender of
Robert E Lee and his Confederate Army at Appomattox

Technique to Improve Reding Skills and Reading Comprehension
TECHNIQUES TO IMPROVE READING SKILLS AND READING COMPREHENSION
Reading is an important part of learning English. This guide to how to improve your reading
skills will help you improve reading by using skills you use in your own language. In other words,
one of the best tips on improving reading is to think about how you read in your own language.
Start by thinking about how you read different documents. How do you read the newspaper?
How do you read novels? How do you read train schedules? and so on. Taking time to think about
this will help give you clues on how to read in English even if you don t understand every single
word.
Ask yourself this question: Do I read every word in your own language when I am reading a
schedule, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This stage is performed in conjunction with the survey process, especially when you learn the
content and start scanning the pages quickly.
As you read the title of the chapter, the chapter subtitles, special words in bold or italics, tables and
figures then at the same time you do the asking yourself. Here you perform an active process by
analyzing, synthesizing the main ideas and arguments presented author. You can create a variety of
questions such as:
I think this section should explain in advance about what is Personal Development
In my personal development skills are not only himself, but also spiritual development. However,
the author of this book seems to be more focus on personal development that is skill.
I believe that personal development will help people to be successful. But I also believe there are
other factors that accompany it, including the hand of God in it.
And so on
Notice of the questions above, a reader has made the process of active dialogue even before
reading completely done. Accordingly, readers are mentally ready to plunge into these works,
including discussion of the proposed test author with nothing has been learned and understood by
the reader before them.
It is this process that will help the reading actively. In this way, the reader not just think with what

Jane Austen Research Paper
Jane Austen
Jane Austen is a renowned writer who existed amongst other writers such as Henry Fielding (author
of Tom Jones) and Mary Shelley (author of Frankenstein), in a time called the Georgian Era. Jane
Austen works include Pride and Prejudice, Northanger Abbey, Juvenilia, Mansfield Park, Emma
and Sense and Sensibility. Although Jane Austenhas gifted to the world many great works, it is
recorded on Bio.com that her work did not become popular until after 1869 and during her life her
works were published anonymously (see Bio.com ; http://www.biography.com/people/jane austen

One of Jane Austin s most popular works and one that I am personally familiar with is Pride and
Prejudice. It is believed that Jane Austen began writing Pride and Prejudice between the years of
1795 to 1799. However, the original title for Pride and Prejudice was said to be First
Impressions. First Impressions was submitted by Jane s father to a publisher but was not even
accepted for a read over. However, during Jane s thirties, she began to publish her works
anonymously. This was probably due to the fact that during Jane s era, women were only
regarded as home keepers. After Jane s novel Sense and Sensibility was published, Jane was
encouraged to revise First Impression. It is said that Jane was inspired to change the title to
Pride and Prejudice which she had gotten from a phrase she read in English author Frances
Burney s work titled Cecilia (Memoirs of an Heiress). Pride and Prejudice was published in the year
of 1813. Her other works, Sense and Sensibility was published in 1811, Mansfiled Park in 1814,
Emma in 1816 and Northanger Abbey / Persuasion in 1818 (see; Austen Chronology

Analysis Of The Movie Lego

Holocaust lecture. The Lego Movie was released in February 2014 and achieved a rating of 96%
from Rotten Tomatoes. The movie was an instant hit, with 6 major awards and 11 nominations.
However, in the movie there are silent messages being sent to kids about how bad the Holocaust
can be. The connections between the historic event and the movie are featured throughout the film.
The Lego movie is about an average man named Emmet, who lives in an utopian society ruled by
a leader called, President Business. After working at a construction site, Emmet finds the Peace

Business plans on using the Kragle to destroy the world on a day he calls Tako Tuesday , and that
only the Special can defeat him. With a girl named Wyldstyle, Emmet teams up with Master

this he helps himself and others to learn what it means to be special.

Raising Sheep Is A Major Part Of My High School Experience
Raising goats has been a major part of my high school experience. I purchased my first two
Pygora goats, Dione and Carl, in November of my freshman year, and in the four years since
then my herd has expanded to six. Being out in the barn, working, caring for the goats, cleaning,
learning and teaching, has allowed me an outlet to flourish and learn by doing. This past year I
decided to breed two of my goats as my Senior project. This was not my first time breeding, but it
will be the first time of me making all the decisions on my own. It was certainly harder than I
expected. At the end of the five month pregnancy, I learned so much about goats, nutrition and

original two goats from her and that is where Dione had been successfully bred before. When I
went to her farm to determine a buck for each girl, I had both an easy decision and a hard decision.
I knew already that I wanted to breed Dione with Bing. Dione and Bing were the parents of Stella
and her brother, Jack, and Dione had an easy kidding with them in 2013 and before I bought her.
They produced wonderful babies, fit with the qualities of a good goat. Who I should breed Stella
with was the hard choice. Stella is a smaller goat, therefore she wouldn t do well with a larger buck,
but I wanted her baby to be bigger than she was when it was full grown. I also needed a gentle buck
to be nice to her, a first time mom. I was also seeking a buck with unique colorings. Stella is a
black goat with a grayish fiber, and I wanted to add some diversity to my herd. I ended up deciding
to breed her with Mira, a brown goat who was very sweet. I was very confident in my buck choices.
A month after I decided on the bucks, I brought my girls to Janet s farm for a six week honeymoon,
where they would live in a spacious stall with the bucks on September 11, 2014. The price of the
two breedings turned out to be $250, $125 each. To pay for the breeding, we offered to provide all

Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Essay
Neonatal nurse practitioners are advanced practice nurses who care for premature and sick
newborns in various settings such as neonatal intensive care units, emergency rooms, delivery

practitioners are skilled in caring for newborns in need of specialized attention. A newborn may be

other disorders. Since these infants are so fragile, these nurses assume a lot of responsibility that

Judaism, Religion, And Remarkable History
Judaism is one of the oldest religions in the world. It is a faith that is deeply rooted in tradition,
culture, and remarkable history. The Jewish religion is most commonly referred to as a type of
ethical monotheism, as it assumes the existence of a Creator God whose benevolence and
goodness are reflected in His love of humanity and who has imparted to the Jews ethical principles
by which they (and the rest of the human race) are expected to live by. (367) .
Judaism stems from the promise made to Abraham by God that he would make him and his

Moses is in fact responsible for bringing God s laws to the Israelite people which essentially is
the foundation on which the Jewish faith is laid upon. The ten commandments are:

theft, never give false testimony, and never desire anything that belongs to another. These laws

Orthodox Judaism strictly follows the Torah and leaves no room for interpretation. In large
response to the Jewish people being exiled from their homeland and being dispersed throughout the

Conservative Judaism offered a more moderate departure from traditional (or what is now called

The Use of and Elipse to Help Pool Player
Architecture, games, astronomy and medicine have something in common, even if it s not
obvious at first sight. What connects these different areas is called Conic Sections. Where do they
come from? Conic Sections are figures formed by the intersection of a plane and a right circular
cone. A conic section may be a circle, an ellipse, a parabola, or a hyperbola. They were first
discovered by a Greek mathematician, Menaechmus. He wanted to come up with a model that
showed all three different conic sections. With the help of Appollonius, they came up with the
Double Napped Cone , which clearly shows all three different shapes. In this project, I m going
to study and analyze specifically the ellipse. What is an ellipse? It s the set of points on a plane
whose sum of the distance of two fixed points is constant . The main parts on an ellipse are:
center, foci and vertices. The focus is the most important and the most used in real life. The foci
determine the shape of the ellipse, therefore the vertices, endpoints, major axis and minor axis.
The ellipse is found mostly in architecture and astronomy. For example, in London, the St. Paul
Cathedral has an elliptical form. Studies have proven that if two people stand at the two foci, and
one of them whispers, the other guy can hear it clearly. In astronomy, lots of people confuse
ellipse with eclipse; THEY ARE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS! The ellipse is very
useful to astronomers because it defines the distance between the sun

The least level of adaptation occurs in product attributes such as quality, design, features and
characteristics. Comparing the products related elements with pricing related elements, adaptation
is more used in pricing approach. The key reason for such differences occurs due to the variation
among countries in marketing objective, inflation rate, purchasing power parity, cost structure,
government control and competitive policies. Pricing adjustments are somehow centered around
different areas namely retail prices versus margin, whole price versus margin, pricing method versus
strategies, sales versus payment terms and end user pricing versus margin. On the other hand,
promotion related elements have slightly above average level adaptation.
Amongst the marketing mix elements, promotional elements seem to be more adaptive and even
personal selling is more adaptive than advertisement. The key reason of the same is identified by
Vrontis, Thrassou and Lamprianou (2009) and stated there are few factors responsible for it such as

Simultaneous Vs Sequentials
In the piece of literature we had this week, Eternal Quest for the Best: Sequential (vs.
Simultaneous) Option Presentation Undermines Choice Commitment we found a different points
in the decision making process. It takes the view of how we can look at our choices, and how that
affects our satisfaction in the long run. Simultaneous gives your choices all at once, and you have
your pick, while sequential gives them one at a time. When given options sequentially you saw a
trend that people were less satisfied with what they had chosen. The participants in the experiment
were found to be hopeful for a better option when they were given sequentially. In most results of
the experiment we found people were left unsatisfied in their choices due to

Hard Time Dating Research Paper
Some women who have children at home have a hard time getting started dating. Some feel that
the children will think she s immoral if she does, and should only see Mother with one man, the
father. However, you can t stop living because of your children, and it may be that your child
resents your datingbecause you feel ashamed of it. Moreover, dating in a child s mind does not
necessarily mean sleeping together. When you feel ready to date, sit down and talk to your child if
you feel it will help you become more comfortable about dating. You can say, I d like to begin to

If you are actually considering this, it can be overwhelming to see all the different choices and

one of my friends with me for safety measures, because you never know! But I did find luck on
American Singles and while it is not for everyone, I found them fairly decent and I m glad I

most about eHarmony was the profile you had to fill out. This was seriously really long and
took so much time I would make it half way through and take a break because I was tired of
answering so many questions. I realize this makes a huge difference in matching you with

Tree Kangaroo Welfare Essay
Matschie s tree kangaroo (Dendrolagus matschiei) population is declining significantly, so to
conserve this species, captive breeding programs have been conducted in zoos. Research has
shown presence of visitors can have negative impacts on animal welfare, but the welfare
implications of visitors on tree kangaroos have not yet been examined. The aim of this study is to
determine the impact of visitor presences on Matschie s tree kangaroo welfare. In this experiment,
10 tree kangaroos will be examined by testing two treatment groups: no visitor contact and
exposure to visitors. Treatment groups will be tested for 1 day period in a total of 10 study days
and 5 days for each treatment group. Instantaneous point sampling and continuous sampling... Show

This is because while zoos try to raise awareness on conservation programs by allowing visitors to
have a close interaction with animals, this however sometimes comes at the expense of the animals
welfare (Calyton, Fraser, Saunders, 2009).Research has suggested that visitors can affect animal
behaviour and stress physiology even when animals are separated by barriers (Fernandez et al.,
2009). A recent study has indicated that when exposed to visitors, the level of vigilance increased
in both Kangaroo Island kangaroos and Red kangaroos. Furthermore, Kangaroo Island kangaroos
would increase time spent in locomotion and decrease time spent on resting (Sherwen, 2015). In
addition, previous studies have shown that social factors and conditions of confinement have
proven to cause stress for tree kangaroos (Hutchins et al., 1991). As a consequence, this reduces the
chances of reproductive success, thus zoo populations are declining. A more detailed understanding
of tree kangaroo behaviour and stress triggers is needed to advance the reproductive success of this

India And The Birth Of Khalsa
Background: India and the Birth of Khalsa India is a vast country with rich and varied heritage. In
this unique country live followers of several religions, such as Hinduism, Islam, Christianity,
Jainism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism and Sikhism. At the time of the birth of Guru Nanak, the
founder of the Sikhreligion, India was being ruled by Muslim kings. In their desire to control the
population of India, these kings resorted to oppressive tactics to convert all non Muslims to
Islam. They imposed several religious taxes and expressed blatant disrespect for places of
worship that did not coincide with their own, among other tactics. However, they were not
alone in doing so. The Hindu pundits and Brahmins also turned to unorthodox practices by
exploiting the people and forcing them to participate in expensive ceremonies and rituals. Both
Hinduism and Islam were being corrupted by the greedy tendencies of those considered
religious authorities . Guru Nanak was born in a Hindu family and retained an interest in
religion. His desire to explore beyond what had been given to him led him to leave home and
embark on a journey of sorts. At the age of 28, Guru Nanak went to a river to bathe and meditate
and returned three days later, filled with the spirit of God. He proclaimed that there is no Hindu
and no Muslim, and upon this he began his work as a missionary and the Sikh religion was born.
Founded in 1469 A.D. by Guru Nanak, Sikhism is the youngest of the world religions

Love And Love In Chaucer s Troilus And Criseyde
This passage from Chaucer s Troilus and Criseyde comes from a scene towards the beginning of
Book Two where Criseyde and her uncle Pandarus are discussing love, specifically relation to
Troilus s desire for her. In these lines, the overbearing Pandarus gives a woeful Criseyde advice on
what to do, with Criseyde giving her reaction immediately after. With the format of the rhymeroyal,
Chaucer creates new relationships between individual words, both in a sonic sense as well as a
visual one with the page itself. Through this, he presents the possibility of a tainted love, wrought
with the pressures from outside forces. In the first stanza, Criseyde seeks to put pressure on
Pandarus s statements, directly asking him what wolde ye devise? He recognizes the question and
replies, stating Certein/ best is / That ye hym love ayeyn for his lovynge, / As love for love is
skilful guerdonynge. Of particular interest here is the rhyme between lovynge and guerdonynge, a
product of the rhyme schemethat characterizes rhyme royal. A normative conception of lovynge not
subject to outside pressures becomes intrinsically tied to the transactional guerdonynge.
Considering that this statement is coming from Pandarus, the question of intent seems to be
important here. At this point in the text, he is already actively assisting Troilus in wooing Criseyde,
but in highlighting the sense of exchange, he strips lovynge of any genuine sense, making an
attempt to engender its

Merit-Based Utopia Essay
People are the building blocks of a society. The society is perfect only if each individual achieves
happiness through his/her own satisfaction from achievements. In order for that to happen, the
society should be merit based. A place where people have an incentive to work for themselves
without harming others will ensure a safe, respectful, and successful community. Unlike our society
in the twentieth century, people are actually encouraged to strive for success and get rewarded
according to the level of accomplishment in this utopia.
The main idea of a merit based society is a person receives what he works for. The most
hardworking people are the wealthiest, most respected, and most loved. At the same time, these
people are very happy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Incentive is an invisible but effective force that causes people to act a certain way, according to the
ten principles of economics. (Mankiw, 7) Firstly, the role of governmentis very different in a merit
based society compared to the American government. In a merit based society, the government is
only responsible for enforcing a law that forbidden a person from doing harm to others, arresting
those who break this law and sending them to jail. This idea is similar to Ayn Rands objectivism, in
which she says, Punishment is the only proper function is government. ( Ayn Rand First Interview
1959 (Full) ) If punishment exists, people will refrain from causing harm to others because of the
idea that people avoid punishment called secondary negative reinforcement proved by a
psychological experiment. (Logan)
The government also differs from the American government in its treatment of welfare. In the
merit based society, there is no welfare. The government does not tax nor lend help to anyone
because welfare discourages people from fully using their potentials. If welfare is available to the
non wealthy, people tend to become one of them by not working and being fed by the
government. Taxes are also eliminated because some people restrict their income to a certain
degree by processes called tax avoidance and tax evasion because they want to pay less tax to the
American government. (Mankiw, 244) A merit based society provides no

The Basic Principles Of Biological Criminology
The basic principle of biological criminology comes from the belief people are born criminal
through genetic inheritance or physiological predisposition to crime as written by Mclaughlin
and Muncie (2013, p. 26). Early theorists such as Cesare Lombroso identified criminals by their
distinctive physical features such as by their Large cheekbones, thick eyebrows and flat nose .
Lombroso (1897) claimed in his later work only a third of criminals were actually born criminal
which means we should be able to spot a criminal by looking at them because of their features.
Lombroso classified criminals into 4 major categories including born criminal . Studies have been
carried out to isolate the genetic factor and theory assuming people are born criminals due to
genetic inheritance. The types of research that were carried out to test whether we inherit criminal
genes which cause us to offend are twins studies (identical and fraternal), adoptees and family
studies. Several attempts were made to test biological and genetic theories. A study of 3000
prisoners in London in 1910 s found a strong link between criminality of spouses and between
children, siblings and their parents. It was then greatly argued that criminality was passed down
through an individual s inherited genes. Further study from the Cambridge study in Delinquent
Development established in 1960 s suggested crimedid run in families. Studies showed the link
between one convicted family member leading to another

Mary Magdalene
In this paper I will share the life of Mary Magdalene, the faithful disciple she was to Jesus all the
way to the very end and how God wants us to model our lives in the same fashion. Mary
Magdalene s life as we know it begins in her native city of Magdala. Magdala is the Greek form of
mighdol or watchtower, probably named for the tower that guarded the city. (The Zondervan
Pictorial Encyclopedia of the Bible, 1975, p. 105) It is believed that Mary received her last name
Magdalene by designation. According to the Zondervan Handbook to the Bible (2009) this
designation means that she was unmarried, since married women were normally distinguished from
others of the same name by the name of their husband.

She could confirm that Jesus was truly dead. Mary and the other women prepared the spices
needed for the customary burial of Jesus body. Preparing the body for burial was a traditional task
done by the Jewish women. This is seen as a final and gentle service given to the body of their
loved ones.
IV. Mary Magdalene was witness to the Resurrection. Mark 16:1 11, Luke 24:1 11, Matthew 28:1
10, John 20:1 18
Mary found the stone rolled away and Jesus body was no longer there. She received a message
from an angel and was the first person to see the risen Jesus. Making her the first witness to the
resurrection! The excitement she must have felt when she realized she was speaking with her risen
Savior!
All four gospels mention Mary s presence with Jesus as being faithful to the end. Isn t this the type
of relationship God wants us to have with Him, faithful to the end? Mary gave up everything to
follow Jesus and to lead others in His ministry. She was committed to what she believed and she
was willing to risk everything to tell others about the Word of God. Shouldn t we as Christians be
like this as well? I m not saying that our road will be easy but we must stand firm in God s Word
because that is constant and never changes!
We will never have all the answers until the day God returns so we need just have faith in God
and His plan. With Mary Magdalene there are so many

Rhetorical Analysis Of Coach Brook s Pentad
A miracle on ice happened during the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics. These Olympic games were
being held in the midst of the Cold War and ironically the finalists in men s hockey were hosting
a war of their own. A battle for the gold medal was taking place and the two teams battling for
glory were the underdog USA team and the best team in the world, the Soviets/Team Russia.
This specific game is one of legend because it really was a miracle on ice watching the underdog
USA team defeat the untouchable Soviets. The main purpose of this study is to examine the
infamous locker room speech given to the United States men s hockey team by Coach Herb
Brooks. This speech can be analyzed by many different rhetorical theories but this paper will
focus on Kenneth Burke s dramatism pentad. Burke s pentad encompasses five points: agent,
agency, act, scene, and purpose (ADD CITATION). All of these units to the pentad will play a
significant role in analyzing Coach Brook s speech because they are all presented in this act of
rhetoric.
Justification
Communication and rhetoric in sports has always been an interest to communication scholars.
Analyzing the communication used in Coach Brook s locker room speech lets one understand how
Burke s pentad makes it all work. Burke s pentad originated, as a tool used to systematically
dismantle and understand the bases of human conduct and motivation (Ling, 1969, p. 81). This
analysis relies heavily on motivation and why the speaker is doing what

Early North American Culture Analysis
Based on the readings this semester, many things make interesting connections between today s
cultures and early North American cultures. Three authors illustrate these connections very well:
Olaudah Equiano, Roger Williams, and Anne Bradstreet. The authors give specific examples of
what people did on a normal basis as well as what their norms were; these examples were well
enough explained to be compared to today. Equiano s examples will hit home for most as he
explains his norms versus what today s people see as completely okay. Equiano gives example of
cultural issues that are currently very touchy subjects such as circumcision, Williams explains the

He talks about circumcision of a male infant, washing hands before eating, and women being
around men all the time. These are just a few of the examples he gives that relate to the culture
today. Circumcision is a hot topic; parents are starting to question whether it is as good for the
child as it has always said to be. In the early North American days it was said to be the best thing
to do for a male infant, now parents are thinking it through a little more and actually looking at
the pros and cons to circumcising their new baby. There are pros and cons to all things, but
washing your hands is all pros. Hand washing is something everyone struggles with, but is
necessary to maintain good health. Hand washing is the number one key to keeping infection and
sickness down to a low percentage. Hand washing is something that Equiano seen as a normal
thing to do until he came to the new America; people did not do such a thing here. Equiano was
startled by this and questioned why this was not done. Hand washing is still very important today

Value Chain Analysis And Analysis Essay
Value Chain Analysis
Another point of view is to take a look at the value chain analysis which helps to identify the most
valuable activities of a firm. Wheelen, Hunger, Hoffman, Bamford (2014). In the case of
Electrolux, it would appear that they provide considerable value to the appliance market however;
the struggle (as previously mentioned) has been breaking into emerging markets in this case,
China. With considerable middle class growth in China, the standard of living is rising
exponentially; therefore, a large number of new households will be able to invest in appliances and
other household products. The second point in the value chain analysis begs the question of rarity
or more succinctly, can resources be acquired by one or limited organizations. Resources which
are rare and valuable can provide a temporary competitive advantage. Conversely, when more
than a few companies posses the same resource or utilize the same capability, this can lead to
competitive parity. Wheelen et al (2014) Therefore, one must ask several questions in order to
find rare resources. For example; how many companies own a resource or can perform capability in
the same way as Electrolux? And, can a resource be easily bought in the market by rival companies?
In the case of Electrolux the rareness component is nonexistent because other companies e.g., LG
Electronics, Whirlpool and Haier already have a stronghold in the global market with similar
products. Furthermore, China has been known to

Among the new malware attacking Macs in 2017, one particular strain has caught the public s
attention. Experts have singled out ProtonRAT Trojan this year because it has been particularly
bothersome. The MacOS Proton RAT could execute shell commands as root, steal passwords,
take screenshots of the desktop, steal files, and even access the webcam. Even scarier is that it

Bsbwor501 What Makes A Good Role Model
BSBWOR501 Summative Assessment 2 ? Michelle Rick
1. What makes a good role model and how can I ensure that I act as a role model for employees I
supervise?
The definition of a role model is a person whose behaviour, example or success can be emulated by
others, especially young people. Their values, actions and behaviours are upheld as an ideal and to
be desired. Being a role model may not be taken in its entirety. It can be broken down allowing a
person to be a role model in one area and not another. Being a manager is not a guarantee to be a
role model. Good leaders will model behaviours that encourage employees to endorse
organisational goals and objectives. By modelling the behaviours you find desirable and that will
help reach company gaols others will also begin to model said behaviours.

Sophia Western vs. Lady Bellaston
On the 4th episode of the novel Tom Jones, the author has once again given its audience another
surprise. Sophia Western and Lady Bellaston are both secretly fighting for the love of the same man.
They both like Mr. Jones. However, they refuse to let each other know about their own feelings
towards this man. Although they are both wealthy women, they differ in their appearance, attitudes,
and most important on their feelings towards Mr. Jones.
They look very different from each other. Ms. Western is very young, probably in her early 20s.

To keep her honor, she escapes her house because she would not marry a man she is not in love
with even when her father in forcing her to do so. Lady Bellaston, however, is the total opposite;
she appears to be a fine honorable lady when she is in fact a corrupt widow. She corruptively treats
younger man of her craving with money, expensive wear, and special attentions. These men in
return have to satisfy the sexual thirst of the older Bellaston.
Sophia is a conservative girl from the country; she in not used to the liberal life of London. In
contrast, Lady Bellaston has no limits when it comes to libertinism. For instance, in one part of the
novel, she hires actors to perform very sexually inclined show at her mansion.
During the erotic play, Sophia leaves the room as she tells Bellaston who follows her up the stair
how insulted and humiliated she felt to have observed such a coarse show.
It s obvious that both women want Tom Jones, however their purpose with him is very different. To
Sophia, Tom means her lifetime sweetheart for whom she is willing to sacrifice her family and
estate.
In contrast, to Lady Bellaston he s just another of her sex toys, with the difference that she s
obsessed with him because he s probably the only man who has rejected her and admitted to her
face to be totally in love with another woman. Beyond that, Sophia is a pure woman who

Current Events Analysis: US Papal Visit 2015
The current event that will be analyzed in this paper is the Papal visit to the United States in
September 2015, some of the threats that were present during this event, and the security measures
surrounding it. It was the seventh visit of the Pope to the United States, and the first one since 1984.
Pope Francis, his attention to the common people, and his stances on issues has made him both a
very popular and a very controversial public figure, and the United States government has taken his
safety while on American soil very seriously.

Conclusion
Following the Pope s visit, President Obama took time after that busy week to make a statement to
reporters on the South Lawn, thanking the Secret Service for its hard work that week in protecting
the president, the Pope, foreign leaders at the General Assembly, and the public (Fabian, 2015).
Ultimately, the US Papal Visit was free of incident, and we may never know what threats were
averted, if any. It is still impressive to examine the amount of preparation, contingency planning,
and preventative measures were put in place for the Pope s visit and to consider that apart from
having possibly averted threats, we have the level of organization in place that these events may
never even take off the ground due to the high level of awareness and security our nation takes as a

Kurt Cobain Theory
Kurt Cobain was found dead of an apparently self inflicted shotgun blast to the head. (Cross,
2014). Cobain was at a raise during his time, he pushed limits into his music, creating a grunge
style influencing the fashion and music industry single handily. His band, Nirvana was the biggest
and most significant band of his generation in the early 90s. He was only 27 years old at the time
of his death, but the question is what lead the Nirvana rock star to suicide? Freud s psychodynamic
theory of personality states the importance of early childhood development, and it could be said
that childhood experiences could have possibly played a role in Cobain s suicide. On February
20, 1967, Cobain was born to be the center attention of his family, he was the first child. At three
years old his parents birthed his younger sister, that s when things changed, and he didn t receive
all the attention as he used to. Around the age of nine his parent s marriage went downhill and
divorced, because of this Cobain s psychological development would become affected into his
adolescent years. After the divorced Cobain was never in a stable home, jumping from living with
father to his grandparents, aunts, and uncles houses. According to (Cloninger, 2004), It leaves a
narcissistic wound and a craving for parental love that was never met . In psychoanalytic theory
Alder could describe him to be struggling with interiority within his childhood where Fear of

Death We Real Cool
Death in We Real Cool In Gwendolyn Brooks poem We Real Cool Seven African American high
school dropouts want everyone to admire them. These teenagers explain how they stay out late
playing pool, fighting, sinning and drinking. Though they believe they have everybody else
fooled, they know themselves that the destructive behavior they are taking part in will lead to
their death. The sluggard s carving will be the death of him, because his hands refuse to work
(Proverbs 21:25) The Bible makes a very clear statement in this passage as to how being lazy can
be the cause of one s death. In We Real Cool, Gwendolyn Brooks uses denotation and sound devices
to suggest that although humans may often think of themselves as being cool for... Show more

It is sad to see how these teenagers think of themselves as being cool because of the activities
they choose to do, when they each see how it is making them live a shorter life and none of them
are doing a thing about it. Life is worth more than feeling cool. Proverbs says, Since they hated
knowledge...the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will
destroy them (Proverbs 1:29a, 32). The teenagers in We Real Cool have an image of their selves
as being cool on the outside because of the badly behaved things they are taking part in and want
others to think them as being cool. These teenagers want to think that they are cool for doing the
things they do, but they know that the destructive life they live will soon be a factor to their
deaths. Brooks demonstrates in We Real Cool that even though people acknowledge their own
behavior and think of themselves as being cool, their destructive ways will be a part of their short
lives and none of their coolness will ever matter again.

enthralling undersea adventure that begins when a mysterious oblong, occasionally phosphorescent

creature. Professor Aronnax and his trusty servant Council are thrown overboard and end up on the

Sobel perseveres through seven years of hard work and bad pay because of his love for Miriam.
Sobel worked overtime often running the shoe store by himself while the owner, Feld, would
go home after an hour or two (Malamud 51). Despite Sobel s hard work he received terrible pay
to the point that even the owner told him he should leave and receive better wages. Yet his
conscious bothered him for not insisting that the assistant accept better wage than he was
getting, though Feld had honestly told him he could earn a handsome salary elsewhere, or
maybe opened a place of his own (Malamud 51). Sobel knew that he was being paid unfairly for
the hours that he worked, but he insisted on staying because he loved Miriam. For the stingy
wages I sacrificed five years of my life so you could have to eat and drink and where to sleep?
Then for what shouted the shoemaker. For Miriam (Malamud 53). Even after working five years
to try and be accepted by Feld and marry Miriam when Feld insists that Sobel wait two more
years Sobel agrees in a heartbeat. But the next morning, when the shoemaker arrived, heavy
hearted, to open the store, he saw he needn t come, for his assistant was already seated at the last,

Chronic Homelessness
Co Occurring Disorders among Chronically Homeless Individuals
Brandi R. Severson
Concordia University, St. Paul
Abstract
As rates of homelessness continue to rise across the United States, the overall quality of life for
this population is in question as many are victimized on a daily basis (Martin, 2015). Homelessness
is a growing problem in nearly every city across the United States and yet it is often overlooked.
One of the primary causes of homelessness across the United States is the result of chronic mental
health disorders followed by increasing rates of poverty (Martin, 2015). The harmful effects of long

Task 1
Frost, GKE1 Task 1 Page 1
GKE Task 1 Part A:
Over the centuries there have been many different environmental and geographical factors that have
shaped the development of the United States. Two of these factors that I feel are extremely
significant to this development are the Irish Potato Famine and the discovery of gold in California.
The Irish Potato Famine began in Ireland in September 1845. The famine was caused by an
airborne fungus, phytophthora infetans, which attacks the leaves of the plant, turning them black,
causing them to curl and rot, ultimately killing the plant. The rotting plant makes the perfect
environment for the fungus to multiply. The wind then carries the fungus spores to more healthy
plants. (Irish Potato Famine, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cultural trade was also a two way street. The Egyptians started representing themselves
artistically and fashionably as the Romans did with a more Greco Roman style (Heilbrunn
Timeline of Art History, 2000). Both civilizations came to be known as some of the most
prosperous and successful civilizations of the ancient world.

The Importance Of Pornography
Being raised in a Cristian Mexican culture home, I was taught early in life to view adult content
material such as pornography as taboo. My Father was a strict strong minded man with high
morals; raising four girls and one boy. My Mother on the other hand more on the passive side, yet
she shared the same views as my Father when it came to pornography. I can vividly recall one
summer day, playing hide and seek with the neighborhood children. It was a normal day, until a
few of the children went missing, when we located them they were viewing a pornographic
magazine, an older child was exposing them too. At the tender age of seven years old, I could not

(57) Although, strongly agreeing that a grey area covers definition of what art is, how a person
should behave; actions and manners, has a strong impact in our society. Nevertheless, American
s should not have to worry about who or who does not feel insulted by what they do in the
privacy of their own home. What one views as entertainment another may have a different
opinion. Watching, reading, or listening to pornography is no different than watching, reading
or listening to religious material in one s home. It is a personal choice. Like with every other
type of controversial material common sense should be practice. If it is not a private home
where adult content is being shared or discussed and there are children present adults should be
respectful and censor on their own what to expose them to and what to protect them from.
Returning back to the first Amendment. I strongly feel it is our right as American s to express
our freedom or to allow others to do so as they please. Everyone is free to disagree but we cannot
decide what is right for another person solely on our own personal emotions. It should be the head
of house to decide what is allowed in their own home not the Government. Jacobi makes a valid
point when she says feminist are pro censorship because they want the Government to intervene and
create laws to get their own point access for personal gratification.

Zoollover Animal Pandemic By Davis Quammen Summary
A spillover , also referred to as zoonosis, can be best described as a disease that has the capability
to cross from another species to human beings. The scientists until now, have been successful in
identifying approximately 200 zoonotic diseases. In the recommended book, Spillover: Animal
Infections and the Next Human Pandemic, Davis Quammen has highlighted the emergence and
significant effects of zoonotic both human and animal all over the Blue planet. He has covered a
good number of the infamous diseases including the Ebola, HIV, malaria, SARS, influenza and
Lyme disease. This revolutionary complex story written down by the well known contemporary
writer is an union of adventure, action and secrecy. What surprised me the most is that Quammen
traveled across the globe for discovering the beginning of pandemics and outbreaks affecting
humans. Throughout the book, he constantly shows that the zoonotic spillovers are the causes of
HIV, SARS, and other human epidemics whereby humans are affected by the microbes transferred
through animals. The author talks about the spillover events and their causes eventually allowing
the readers to understand that it is, in fact, human beings whose activities spark the entire cycle
/process of zoonosis and that they are the major role behind it.... Show more content on

everyone interested in science and disease pathology

Gulf War Air Defense Essay
The Role of Air Defense in the Gulf War Throughout the history of Air Defense Artillery (ADA),
innovative steps were made for the technological advance in weaponry to defend our skies and

  • 2. Acoustic Characteristics Of Courtship And Agonistic... Why was the study Acoustic characteristics of courtship and agonistic vocalizations in Przwewalskii s horse and in domestic horse (Alberghina et al. 2015) carried out and what benefits has it brought to the research area? The study in question seeks to analyse the difference between the vocalisation of 2 species of the genus Equus in order to develop a deeper understanding of morphological factors affecting the sounds the animals make which in turn may provide data that then allows further research into evolutionary divergence. The two species are very similar but are different slightly at both a physical and genetic level. These species have different chromatic numbers yet are so closely related that they can produce fertile offspring as documented by Bennett and Hoffman (1999). Domestic horses only exist as they are due to human intervention and so the divergence of domestic horses from their wild counterparts is fairly recent in evolutionary terms. This makes the study valuable not only in adding to the limited research on Przwewalskii vocalizations but also to further evolutionary biology. Equally its findings may also set a precedent for differences in vocalisations between other closely related species as referenced to in the text are studies on different animals of which some are only very distantly related to horses, even so far as to include a reference to a study on different species clownfish (Colleye et al. 2011). This essay aims to summarize and critically ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Informative Speech About Brutus You have just been elected president of the united states. Congratulations, just about everyone voted for you. You re going to be inaugurated today, how exciting. Your best friend, who you have known as long as you can remember, is coming over with some of his friends to hang out before you re officially president. They arrive and you re having a fine time, though a little confusing, when all the sudden one of them stabs you. You reach out for your best friend s support, but they just stab you as well. This is basically the last day of Caesars life. He was stabbed to deathby those he trusted, his best friend Brutus was one of the betrayers. Some try to justify Brutus actions by saying that he was trying to save Rome from a power hungry leader . But Brutus said himself that, [he has] not known when his [Caesar s] affections swayed more than his reason. So from this we know that Caesar was not ambitious. The actions of Brutus were so severe that they even started a sort of civil warin Rome, ending countless lives and putting others in danger. So even if he didn t mean to be, Brutus was definitely a betrayer. Those who disagree may say Brutus was trying to do what was best for Rome. They believe his thinking is that once Caesar had power he would abuse it, as many do. This was his attempt to save Rome from a power hungry, enslaving ruler. However, Brutus himself said that: [he has] not known when his [Caesar s] affections swayed more than his reason. This shows that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I always pushed myself to prove others wrong. I am very competitive and transitioned that fire into my work. When I first entered into the bar business, I was just a bartender, in three years I became owner/manager and I had one of the most successful nightclubs in North Omaha. Soon, I got tired of the nightlife and I began the shift to prepare myself for a new profession. A personal Strategy is how a person navigates his/her surrounding landscape to achieve his/her objectives. Requires a clear understanding and definition of his/her strengths and competitive advantages (Rumao, 2014, P.5). • 5. Caribbean Integration CARIBBEAN POLITICS and SOCIETY Caribbean Integration Rationale for Integration. The Caribbean remains fragmented both economically and politically as a result of competition and conflict among the European powers. Fragmentation is in part the product of a long history as separate colonies of a metropolitan power or powers. It is also in part the psychological effects on people of separation by sea. The case for regional integration is both simple and irrefutable. First we are small and we need to achieve economies of scale. We need to achieve such economies in markets, production, the mobilisation of regional capital for regional use, university education, science and technology, sea and air transport to mention some areas. I am honoured to discuss with you the effectiveness, in regards to technology and language conventions, of the short film Ohana. With the intention of creating a film that brought to light serious issues whilst upholding a prodigious standard as a production, this film was successful as such through the plentiful access to various technologies as well as the implementation of language conventions and codes. To begin with, we will be viewing Ohana for the purpose of its reference later on. Media: Ohana In the viewing of any production, the director s input is palpable as unique and is often attributed to the director s auteur style. The Auteur Theory in which this notion derives from is attributed to FranГ§ois Truffaut as he wrote about it an essay entitled A Certain Tendency in French Cinema. In this essay, Truffaut claimed that directors are able to express their personal ideas in the greatest medium of contemporary society: film. • 8. Blood Vengeance In Beowulf Vengeance in Beowulf While both blood feuds and wergild deal with murder, a blood feud requires a death for a death, while wergild uses gold to make amends. When looking at this in a biblical perspective, it is important to understand how these relate to justice. Biblical justice is a far cry from revenge. Vengeance, however, takes the shape of both blood feuds and wergild, and while blood feuds are fueled by revenge, wergild is important to bring justice in Beowulf s society. Vengeance in Beowulf takes two main forms: the blood feuds, such as that of Grendel s mother, and the concept of wergild; only wergild, however, conforms to the biblical definition of justice. Blood feuds play an important role in Beowulf, if only to contrast with the idea of wergild. A blood feudtook place when someone killed someone else, and the victim s family had the right and responsibility to kill the murderer. However, this is not justice; it is revenge, often causing a deep and uncontrollable split in a society. In Beowulf, this is only referred to once, when Grendel is killed, and Grendel s mother comes, desperate for revenge, intent on avenging Grendel s death ( Beowulf, 69). While Grendel s mother could be seen as restoring justice, this blood feud only brought more death and revenge. There were few rules or regulations, and revenge was often personal. Indeed, the old testament blood feuds were more closely aligned with wergild, in that weregild was not wild justice or a step outside ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Confederate Flag Controversy Noah Landis Mrs. Powell 4/22/16 College Composition The Confederate Battle Flag Controversy Politicians throughout the United States are debating whether or not the Confederate flag should be allowed to be on the Mississippi state flag. The flag is the center of much controversy. People argue that the Confederate flag is a symbol of racism and hate and that it should not be allowed to be used in public places let alone on a state flag. While others will argue that it is a piece of history and that it honors the soldiers that died in the civil war; it is a symbol of southern pride. The confederate flag has been argued over for many years, dating all the way back to the 1800 s, but the heat of the debate sparked up in 1962. (PBS, Web. Costa Roberts) ... First Impressions was submitted by Jane s father to a publisher but was not even accepted for a read over. However, during Jane s thirties, she began to publish her works anonymously. After Jane s novel Sense and Sensibility was published, Jane was encouraged to revise First Impression. Being out in the barn, working, caring for the goats, cleaning, learning and teaching, has allowed me an outlet to flourish and learn by doing. Dione and Bing were the parents of Stella and her brother, Jack, and Dione had an easy kidding with them in 2013 and before I bought her. What connects these different areas is called Conic Sections. Where do they come from? Conic Sections are figures formed by the intersection of a plane and a right circular cone. A conic section may be a circle, an ellipse, a parabola, or a hyperbola. They were first discovered by a Greek mathematician, Menaechmus. He wanted to come up with a model that showed all three different conic sections. With the help of Appollonius, they came up with the Double Napped Cone , which clearly shows all three different shapes. In this project, I m going to study and analyze specifically the ellipse. What is an ellipse? It s the set of points on a plane whose sum of the distance of two fixed points is constant . The main parts on an ellipse are: center, foci and vertices. The focus is the most important and the most used in real life. The foci determine the shape of the ellipse, therefore the vertices, endpoints, major axis and minor axis. The ellipse is found mostly in architecture and astronomy. For example, in London, the St. Paul Cathedral has an elliptical form. Studies have proven that if two people stand at the two foci, and one of them whispers, the other guy can hear it clearly. In astronomy, lots of people confuse ellipse with eclipse; THEY ARE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS! The ellipse is very useful to astronomers because it defines the distance between the sun ... At the time of the birth of Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikhreligion, India was being ruled by Muslim kings. In their desire to control the population of India, these kings resorted to oppressive tactics to convert all non Muslims to Islam. • 29. Love And Love In Chaucer s Troilus And Criseyde This passage from Chaucer s Troilus and Criseyde comes from a scene towards the beginning of Book Two where Criseyde and her uncle Pandarus are discussing love, specifically relation to Troilus s desire for her. In these lines, the overbearing Pandarus gives a woeful Criseyde advice on what to do, with Criseyde giving her reaction immediately after. With the format of the rhymeroyal, Chaucer creates new relationships between individual words, both in a sonic sense as well as a visual one with the page itself. Through this, he presents the possibility of a tainted love, wrought with the pressures from outside forces. In the first stanza, Criseyde seeks to put pressure on Pandarus s statements, directly asking him what wolde ye devise? He recognizes the question and replies, stating Certein/ best is / That ye hym love ayeyn for his lovynge, / As love for love is skilful guerdonynge. Of particular interest here is the rhyme between lovynge and guerdonynge, a product of the rhyme schemethat characterizes rhyme royal. A normative conception of lovynge not subject to outside pressures becomes intrinsically tied to the transactional guerdonynge. Considering that this statement is coming from Pandarus, the question of intent seems to be important here. At this point in the text, he is already actively assisting Troilus in wooing Criseyde, but in highlighting the sense of exchange, he strips lovynge of any genuine sense, making an attempt to engender its ... • 31. The Basic Principles Of Biological Criminology The basic principle of biological criminology comes from the belief people are born criminal through genetic inheritance or physiological predisposition to crime as written by Mclaughlin and Muncie (2013, p. 26). Early theorists such as Cesare Lombroso identified criminals by their distinctive physical features such as by their Large cheekbones, thick eyebrows and flat nose . Lombroso (1897) claimed in his later work only a third of criminals were actually born criminal which means we should be able to spot a criminal by looking at them because of their features. Lombroso classified criminals into 4 major categories including born criminal . Studies have been carried out to isolate the genetic factor and theory assuming people are born criminals due to genetic inheritance. The types of research that were carried out to test whether we inherit criminal genes which cause us to offend are twins studies (identical and fraternal), adoptees and family studies. Several attempts were made to test biological and genetic theories. A study of 3000 prisoners in London in 1910 s found a strong link between criminality of spouses and between children, siblings and their parents. • 32. Mary Magdalene In this paper I will share the life of Mary Magdalene, the faithful disciple she was to Jesus all the way to the very end and how God wants us to model our lives in the same fashion. Mary Magdalene s life as we know it begins in her native city of Magdala. Magdala is the Greek form of mighdol or watchtower, probably named for the tower that guarded the city. (The Zondervan Pictorial Encyclopedia of the Bible, 1975, p. 105) It is believed that Mary received her last name Magdalene by designation. According to the Zondervan Handbook to the Bible (2009) this designation means that she was unmarried, since married women were normally distinguished from others of the same name by the name of their husband. Mary and the other women prepared the spices needed for the customary burial of Jesus body. Preparing the body for burial was a traditional task done by the Jewish women. Mark 16:1 11, Luke 24:1 11, Matthew 28:1 10, John 20:1 18 Mary found the stone rolled away and Jesus body was no longer there. She received a message from an angel and was the first person to see the risen Jesus. Making her the first witness to the resurrection! The excitement she must have felt when she realized she was speaking with her risen Savior! All four gospels mention Mary s presence with Jesus as being faithful to the end. Isn t this the type of relationship God wants us to have with Him, faithful to the end? Mary gave up everything to follow Jesus and to lead others in His ministry. She was committed to what she believed and she was willing to risk everything to tell others about the Word of God. Shouldn t we as Christians be like this as well? These Olympic games were being held in the midst of the Cold War and ironically the finalists in men s hockey were hosting a war of their own. A battle for the gold medal was taking place and the two teams battling for glory were the underdog USA team and the best team in the world, the Soviets/Team Russia. This specific game is one of legend because it really was a miracle on ice watching the underdog USA team defeat the untouchable Soviets. The main purpose of this study is to examine the infamous locker room speech given to the United States men s hockey team by Coach Herb Brooks. This speech can be analyzed by many different rhetorical theories but this paper will focus on Kenneth Burke s dramatism pentad. Burke s pentad encompasses five points: agent, agency, act, scene, and purpose (ADD CITATION). All of these units to the pentad will play a significant role in analyzing Coach Brook s speech because they are all presented in this act of rhetoric. Justification Communication and rhetoric in sports has always been an interest to communication scholars. Analyzing the communication used in Coach Brook s locker room speech lets one understand how Burke s pentad makes it all work. Burke s pentad originated, as a tool used to systematically dismantle and understand the bases of human conduct and motivation (Ling, 1969, p. 81). Three authors illustrate these connections very well: Olaudah Equiano, Roger Williams, and Anne Bradstreet. The authors give specific examples of what people did on a normal basis as well as what their norms were; these examples were well enough explained to be compared to today. Equiano s examples will hit home for most as he explains his norms versus what today s people see as completely okay. In the early North American days it was said to be the best thing to do for a male infant, now parents are thinking it through a little more and actually looking at the pros and cons to circumcising their new baby. There are pros and cons to all things, but washing your hands is all pros. Hand washing is something everyone struggles with, but is necessary to maintain good health. Hand washing is the number one key to keeping infection and sickness down to a low percentage. • 35. Value Chain Analysis And Analysis Essay Value Chain Analysis Another point of view is to take a look at the value chain analysis which helps to identify the most valuable activities of a firm. Wheelen, Hunger, Hoffman, Bamford (2014). In the case of Electrolux, it would appear that they provide considerable value to the appliance market however; the struggle (as previously mentioned) has been breaking into emerging markets in this case, China. With considerable middle class growth in China, the standard of living is rising exponentially; therefore, a large number of new households will be able to invest in appliances and other household products. The second point in the value chain analysis begs the question of rarity or more succinctly, can resources be acquired by one or limited organizations. Resources which are rare and valuable can provide a temporary competitive advantage. Conversely, when more than a few companies posses the same resource or utilize the same capability, this can lead to competitive parity. Wheelen et al (2014) Therefore, one must ask several questions in order to find rare resources. For example; how many companies own a resource or can perform capability in the same way as Electrolux? And, can a resource be easily bought in the market by rival companies? In the case of Electrolux the rareness component is nonexistent because other companies e.g., LG Electronics, Whirlpool and Haier already have a stronghold in the global market with similar products. Furthermore, China has been known to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. The Importance Of Pornography Being raised in a Cristian Mexican culture home, I was taught early in life to view adult content material such as pornography as taboo. My Father was a strict strong minded man with high morals; raising four girls and one boy. My Mother on the other hand more on the passive side, yet she shared the same views as my Father when it came to pornography. I can vividly recall one summer day, playing hide and seek with the neighborhood children. It was a normal day, until a few of the children went missing, when we located them they were viewing a pornographic magazine, an older child was exposing them too. At the tender age of seven years old, I could not connect the magazine material to anything I knew. The experience was traumatic and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (57) Although, strongly agreeing that a grey area covers definition of what art is, how a person should behave; actions and manners, has a strong impact in our society. Nevertheless, American s should not have to worry about who or who does not feel insulted by what they do in the privacy of their own home. What one views as entertainment another may have a different opinion. Watching, reading, or listening to pornography is no different than watching, reading or listening to religious material in one s home. It is a personal choice. Like with every other type of controversial material common sense should be practice. If it is not a private home where adult content is being shared or discussed and there are children present adults should be respectful and censor on their own what to expose them to and what to protect them from. Returning back to the first Amendment. I strongly feel it is our right as American s to express our freedom or to allow others to do so as they please. Everyone is free to disagree but we cannot decide what is right for another person solely on our own personal emotions. It should be the head of house to decide what is allowed in their own home not the Government. Jacobi makes a valid point when she says feminist are pro censorship because they want the Government to intervene and create laws to get their own point access for personal gratification. ... • 52. Zoollover Animal Pandemic By Davis Quammen Summary A spillover , also referred to as zoonosis, can be best described as a disease that has the capability to cross from another species to human beings. The scientists until now, have been successful in identifying approximately 200 zoonotic diseases. In the recommended book, Spillover: Animal Infections and the Next Human Pandemic, Davis Quammen has highlighted the emergence and significant effects of zoonotic both human and animal all over the Blue planet. He has covered a good number of the infamous diseases including the Ebola, HIV, malaria, SARS, influenza and Lyme disease. This revolutionary complex story written down by the well known contemporary writer is an union of adventure, action and secrecy. What surprised me the most is that Quammen traveled across the globe for discovering the beginning of pandemics and outbreaks affecting humans. Throughout the book, he constantly shows that the zoonotic spillovers are the causes of HIV, SARS, and other human epidemics whereby humans are affected by the microbes transferred through animals. The author talks about the spillover events and their causes eventually allowing the readers to understand that it is, in fact, human beings whose activities spark the entire cycle /process of zoonosis and that they are the major role behind it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is actually an unique detective story in which the author follows an international detectives team as they come across and expose the villains. It needs to be mentioned that Quammen keeps the reader interested by using a fascinating flow of words that readers could easily digest. Although one can only acquire a basic understanding of the spillover , it is truly an inspirational book for everyone interested in science and disease pathology ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Gulf War Air Defense Essay The Role of Air Defense in the Gulf War Throughout the history of Air Defense Artillery (ADA), innovative steps were made for the technological advance in weaponry to defend our skies and ground forces. The diverse history and continuous research and development of air defense systems played a vital role in the safety of ground troops and foreign civilians during the Persian Gulf crisis. Though not always in the forefront of battle, ADA had its own vital roles that it played from the time of its birth, and it was no different during Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield when necessity helped to bring about the evolution of the PAC II Patriot missile. With its history woven in every American war since the establishment of the United States Army in 1775, the ADA branch was not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The impact made by ADA forces spanned over many countries, the main ones being Germany, Israel, Turkey and Iraq. Using their newest developed missiles, Patriot Antitactical ballistic missile Capability, phase 1 (PAC 1) and Patriot Advanced Capability 2 (PAC 2), the Iraqi army had nothing as a comparable counterpart (Burr, 2001). These missiles were 17 feet, 5 inches in length, had a warhead with 221 pounds of high explosive, and could fly at Mach 3 up to 78,000 feet in altitude with a range of 43 miles (Leyden, 1997). The radar, control station, and launchers were all connected via computer, activating when a launch was detected and the highest probability of a kill [was] obtained (Burr, 2001). The newer PAC 2 missiles were capable of self guidance with track via missile software and were more effective than their PAC 1 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
