In class, how we defined what it meant to be a missionary was an individual responding to a
need, a call to serve. From time to time, the area in which the missionary is called to serve is a

interests. In general, when people think about missionaries, or what it means to be a missionary,
they picture a kind person, sympathetic to those around them. Someone who wants to work to

seem to believe that violence correlates directly with video games. Video games are something

The ethnic restaurant I chose to visit was El Banditos on Market St. in Iowa City. It is a
charming little Mexican restaurant that is filled with all sorts of different characteristics that make
it ethnic. I chose to explore this restaurant because of how unknown and underrated it was. I
personally have never noticed or heard of it before. It is across the street from Blue Bird Diner
which many people have been to and not many of them would be able to identify that this restaurant

I observed Dr. Jenny Crisp s English 98 class on January 19, 2016. The class began at 12:15 PM
and lasted until 1:20 PM. The room that the class met in was on the third floor of the Liberal Arts

was divided into two sections on this day because Dr. Crisp had scheduled an introductory visit to

Step 1: Participant.
The child I chose to observe was a brown hair, Hispanic 15 month old girl. The reason I chose to
observe her is because I have seen her at the daycare before and she is always so happy, and has
such a fun personality. When I began to observe her she was just getting to the center, and her
parents just dropped her off.
Step 2: Consent. You need to insure an adult responsible for the child has given you permission to
observe the child.
I had to get consent from the director of Oakwood Methodist Daycare, as well as the parent. I
briefly described to both the director and the parent what my paper was going to be about, and
asked if it would be okay if I observed the little girl in the infant room. The director had no
problem with it. The mother also agreed to it, but she did ask to obtain a copy of the paper before

Divorce is a plague that is destroying numerous families across the United States of America.
Sadly, when husbands and wives divorce, the children are often caught directly in the middle.
Throughout the years divorce has been becoming more and more common. In the 1920 s it was a
rare find to know a person whom had been divorced, today it is a rarity not to know of one who has
been, or will be divorced. Divorcehas numerous effects on the structures of families, and many

Custody
When parents become divorced there are many decisions that they must come to an agreement
upon. How will are possessions be divided? and What will happen to the children? are often the
most asked questions when divorce occurs. Custody is almost always the largest battle when
husband and wife become divorced. Custody includes all duties a parent owes a child including,
food, shelter, protection discipline, education, and even a child s religious beliefs (Martin 32).
Often, a judge must make custody decisions for the parents. There are several types of custody, but
the most common are sole custody, joint legal custody, and joint physical custody.
In sole custody, a single parent provides shelter and makes all important decisions for the child. In
joint legal custody, the child lives with a single parent but decisions are agreed upon by both.
Finally, in joint physical custody the child lives with each parent for equal periods of time and
important decisions may be made by either one, or both parents (Furstenberg 32).
Sole custody children often live with the custodial parent for two week periods and live with the
non custodial parent for two day time periods (Wolchik 164). This gives the child a stable home to
