LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like

Changes in vegetation cover refer to variations in the distribution, composition, and overall
structure of plant communities across different temporal and spatial scales. These changes can

2. The North Korean Famine
North Korea has been receiving financial support from the United Nations as well as food
supplies. Many people would claim that North Korea has an ongoing famine due to the floods they
would continuously experience throughout the years, damaging the soil. Others would argue and
say that the famine happened because North Korea is a communist country and the military is
purposefully starving their people. Regardless of these arguments, the fact still remains, the
people of North Korea are dying rapidly due to malnutrition. The only solution feasible to this
problem would be to send agricultural scientists over to North Korea and help restore the damaged
soil, so that it may grow healthy crops once again. North Korea is facing a dangerous famine...
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason for this, is because it will cost millions of dollars to try and restore even a portion of
the land in North Korea. According to Phil McKenna, North Korean scientists told the delegates
that they would like to reforest hillsides with trees, including the Japanese chestnut, black
chokeberry, and Korean pine, that could both stabilize the soil and provide edible fruits and
seeds. But funding for such reforestation appears tight (McKenna 17). The solution is possible,
however, it will cost too much to fix. There have been ideas of trying to restore everything back
to the way it used to be, but there are insufficient funds to do so. It is cheaper to send North
Korea supplies of food and some money, rather than doing something that will benefit all of
North Korea. Not to mention the fact this solution is short term and does not benefit North
Korea as much as the previous solution would. Money seems to be the only problem with this
solution, Even if the nurseries were running at full capacity, North Korea would still have a long
road ahead of it. Bowers estimates that reforesting even half the country would cost around $46
billion, an amount that exceeds the nation s annual gross domestic product by $6 billion
(McKenna 17). If Kim Jong Un were willing to provide their own money into this solution, there
would be better soil and crops in North Korea. This solution is not an easy one to overcome,
however, it will be worth every penny in the

3. Audit and Party Transactions
April 21, 2003 The Enron Collapse Was Enron s collapse due to a failure in the standard setting
process? Why or why not? The Enron collapse was by no means due to a failure in the standard
setting process instead, the collapse resulted from Enron s fast growing rate and its highly creative
management team who at one point just lost control of the business. The company stopped doing
what it was known for doing best, energy generations, and began exploring and operating in a new
and unknown business segment and a new industry. The standard setting process was indeed
effective; however management kept finding ways to go around the system. Finally, the collapse
can also be attributed to management integrity and Andersen s failure to detect... Show more content

The SPEs financing should have been based on each SPEs own borrowing capacity and leverage
levels. Offering Enron s guarantee to creditors clearly eliminated the equity capitalization
requirements for non consolidation. The company should have had measures in place, which
require additional approvals in regards to offering loan guarantees. How much reliance should
Enron s corporate BOD have placed on the Andersen in understanding the company s accounting
decisions and policies? Without a question the BOD should have placed a high degree of reliance
on Andersen, which at the time was one of the most prestigious worldwide accounting firms. The
auditors should have known the kind of accounting taking place in Enron. In my opinion, Andersen
knew, at least to some extent, the company s financial condition. However, Enron was already too
deep under water that blowing the whistle so late would have created problems for Andersen as
well. According to the case, on 02/05/01, Andersen held internal meeting during which it addressed
the company s accounting from and oversight of the LJM partnership. Andersen never discussed
these concerns with the Audit and Compliance Committee. Although the BOD has its faults, it
should have been able to rely on Andersen s work. When should auditors destroy documents and
information that

4. Examples Of Trickery In Hamlet
The Characters in the play use a trait to mankind known as trikery to bribe other characters in the
play so that they can add to their own gains. The way that they speak to control others with their
words to and the people they control don t even realize that they are being controlled.
When hamlet is preparing the mouse for the king to view he rewrites the play so that he could
have the king and the queen watch it. It is part of the trickery that hamlet uses to get to Claudius
in order to spill his knowledge and his father s death to see if he is guilty to the crime. The way
that the king reacts to the situation of the play shows that hamlet knows a thing or two about
tricking people. In the scene in the theater when hamlet tells his buddy

5. Sonnet 146
Sonnet 146 is well known for its deeply intriguing religious aspect, as it is one of Shakespeare s
religious sonnets and almost the only religious one. It is religious as its tone mentions its concern
with heaven, asceticism and also the progress of the soul all through out the sonnet. The idea that
the poet was trying to convey to his audience is that the body exists at the expense of the soul, so
that adorning or worrying about its beauty can only be accomplished at the souls expense. The
poem is an internal monologue, which makes it first person point of view. This helps the audience
understand that he is talking to himself and whom he is talking about. This sonnetcan also be
referred to as mediation between the soul and the body... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The words poor and sinful are both negative. We can understand through this negative tone that the
poet or the earth in this sonnet is a bad place and we then link sinful to ungodliness, which is what
the whole poem is about.
Another example of metaphor used in this poem is found in the second quatrain; fading mansion
which is used the represent our body. This metaphor explains that our souls are slowly dying and
becoming very dull and fading as we do not live our lives like we are suppose to, according to the
poet.
In line 13 so shalt thou feed on death , gives us the audience a thought that we must constantly be
thinking about death and also as a part of human nature we ponder about life. In other words, for
this metaphor, we as humans feed on death, which in turns feeds on us.
Why so large a cost, having so short a lease this lease refers to life, which is short as we as
humans are not immortal. This metaphor asks why we as humans put so much effort into life when
death comes so quickly.
Closing couplet:
The metaphor from the 3rd quatrain is continued and expanded in the closing couplet. It finishes
from the 1st quatrain of the starving person within the mansion and then turns into irony of the
idea that death feeds on humans. And in the last lines, death and dying are words used as imagery
to describe and give us the final image of eternal life.
Shakespeare, with the use of vivid imagery,

6. Hannah s Alienation In Thirteen Reasons Why By Jay Asher
In the novel Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, the main cause of Hannah s alienation is
having the people she cared about the most stab her in the back, betrayed her and having people
making fun of her. Hannah Baker moved into a new town before her first year of high school.
She didn t know very many people. But the people she did where nice to her for the most part
but later on. Early on in the story, Hannah talks about how she had been having dreams about her
first kiss for a while and when she did get it it was almost just like her dreams. But when justin
(the person she had her first kiss with) told his friends the the had sex that night and he gave his
friends the idea that they can touch her without permission and around school people were calling
her a slut because of the rumor that was speeding.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A rumor based on a kiss started a reputation that people believed in and reacted to (Asher). After
the rumor stated the whole memory of the kiss got ruined and she didn t even want it anymore
because it was causing so much pain with what people were saying about her and what the guys
were doing to her because Justin told a lie about that night. Ryan was someone she met when she
first came to the town. Later on, they became better friends and she showed him a private poem
she wrote but he stole it and put it on the school paper claiming he found it laying around
somewhere. After it was posted Hannah had to hear everyone make fun of her poem. It was
never a lost poem, Ryan. And you never found it, so it did not belong in your collection (Asher).
Hannah trusted Ryan to see the poem she wrote not knowing he would take it and put it on the
school paper she didn t trust him after that and felt horrible about what everyone was saying about
her poem she made. The main cause of Hannah s alienation is having her friends stab her in the
back betray her and people making fun of

7. My Day At High School
The idea came upon me late on a Sunday night in early February. An idea that me and my
buddies from high school need one last get together before the end of the semester. Yes, the end
of the semester is not for another 2 months, but many of my friends go to a variety of different
colleges which means many different weeks of spring break. I realized that this would be our last
chance together so let s go home this weekend and get together. We ran with the idea. We all found
ways back home and our plan was to get together that Friday night. I looked forward to that
Friday night all week, but when that Friday night came it was all ruined by a guy that would do
anything to never be unfair to someone on purpose. On February 7th around 8 o clock or so me
and my roommates were eating dinner discussing spring break. We talked about when our spring
break was and how it was going to be way different since many of our buddies go to different
colleges and have separate spring break dates. As we talked dates I realized that our spring break
was a week before all my other buddies spring breaks were. This is the reason upon deciding to
have a get together later that week. I immediately sent out a text to one of my good buddies
Jackson. Jackson has a garage that is fully renovated therefore it is our primary hang out spot.
We talked about if it was a good idea and if we could stay in the garage that Friday night. All went
well that entire week. Me and my five other buddies all found

8. Competing Claims. The Disputes In The Scs Have Evolved
Competing Claims
The disputes in the SCS have evolved over decades and engage multiple regional states that have
territorial claims in the South China Sea including China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Brunei,
Malaysia, and Taiwan. While not located directly in the region the United States, Australia, Japan,
and India all hold economic, territorial, and security concerns over the disputes. Specifically, the
United States has been involved in the territorial disputes to uphold maritime security laws and
freedom of navigation. The main contended island groups in the SCS include the Pratas, Spratlys,
Paracels Islands, and the Scarborough Shoal, all claimed by China. The Philippines claims the

The Spratly Islands are also at the geographic center of the competing claims in the SCS. Many of
the islands are uninhabited, but this has led some nations to establish settlements on islands to
strengthen their claims.
In as much as China s increasingly assertive claims in the South China Sea to various islands are a
way to bolster their reach territorially for rights related to fishing and other resource rights, but
more importantly they also extend beyond that to exhibit China s global ambitions.
China does this by using their claimed territory to build and bolster military outposts with the
creation of airfields, thereby exerting their presence of control in the region.
International Norms that Shape the Disputes
The disputes in the SCS are subjugated to set of international norms which influence the response
made by states towards competing assertions of sovereignty over territory. UNCLOS is an essential
component in determining states claims in the SCS as it establishes a legal framework to govern
all uses of the oceans (Beckman, 2013, p. 1). It is also crucial in validating the claims made in the
SCS, because all states in the region have ratified the convention, including China, Vietnam,
Malaysia, the Philippines, Brunei, and Indonesia. The convention does have limitations, in that it
does not help states determine sovereignty over land territory,

In 1830, France established a naval blockade off the coast of Algiers in an attempt to take control
of the ports previously controlled by the Ottoman Empire. This was the beginning of a massive
French colonization project in the North African region commonly referred to as the Maghreb
(Szekely 11/3/16). Countries in the Maghreb have experienced varying degrees of colonial
influence. While Algeria experienced a large influx of colonists from France and experienced direct
rule by the French, Tunisiawas considered a French Protectorate. The impact of colonial rule has
significantly shaped the post independence politics of these countries and continue to play a role
in the current political systems present in the Maghreb. Algerian national identity is heavily
influenced by its history as a colonial stronghold of France and the Algerian nationalism that arose
from its fight for independence is so pervasive that it has taken hold of modern Algerian politics.
Modern ethnic divisions, along with the complexities of national identity, rely heavily upon the
varying methods of colonial rule experienced by these states. Tunisia s independence movement
was far less violent and therefore made it better suited for the unified political reform seen during
the Arab Spring uprisings, while the divide and conquer method of colonial rule used by the
French in Algeria still remains a major source for the lack of a unified national identity. Algeria and
Tunisia had variant experiences under

At the bottom right corner, John the Baptist has been depicted as infant at seemingly the same age
as Child Jesus. Saint John raises his arm, with a scroll bearing the first few words of the phrase
ECCE. AGNVS DEI QVI TOLLIT PECCATUM MONDI (Behold the Lamb of God who takes
away the sins of the world). In this artwork, we are not able to see the whole phrase but several
letters among them, but it is definitely presenting the same words. The pleasure on Saint John s
face while looking at the scroll foretells his devotion in the future as a Baptist. An angel standing
next to the Virgin looks at the Child Jesus, who looks over his shoulder. The caring face of the
angel indicates Jesus s sacrifice is praised not only by the common people, but holy figures. The
background is mainly dark grey, makes the figures at the front to stand out. Personally, I think the
painting is aesthetically attractive because of the special style of the artist. Realistic are the faces of
the figures, which look like real human with beauty appearance, and their bodies. Idealistic
elements include the glowing casts on the Virgin, the Child Jesus, and Saint John the Baptist, and
the sacredness the artist tries to convey through the image. These two painting, The Divine

such as physician assisted suicide or euthanasia. Physician assisted suicide (PAS) is when a person
kills him or herself and the doctor supplies the means knowing what the intention is. The doctor
prescribes a medication to their patient in lethal doses. This allows the patient to choose when they
want to die. They can take the pills at home with friends and family present if they wish or they

every court challenge and on October 27, 1997, the U.S. Supreme Court denied a hearing to

There are some people who believe that PAS is merely another decision that a human being
should be able to make about their own life. It is peaceful and easy to prepare for. When a
person chooses to die it is most likely because they are terminally ill. Meaning, they have a
disease that will only allow them to live for a limited amount of time. Some elderly people want
to have the option of PAS also. Sometimes, they grow old and their bodies cannot function the
way that they used to. This is depressing and discouraging to an older person. They cannot see

16. The Marketing Mix Of Pepsi
Marketing Mix of Coca Cola and Pepsi
One of the fiercest battles between brands through the years is the battle between Coke and Pepsi.
How effectively these brands market their products determine their market share. We learned in our
lesson that a brands marketing strategy is comprised several components called a marketing mix.
The marketing mix is composed of four areas; product, price, placement and promotion. Through
many years of success and failure these brands are ripe with illustrations of marketing successes
and failures. It is my desire to draw from these examples and describe each brands marketing mix.
Let s start with PepsiCo.
Product in the PepsiCo marketing mix
The marketing mix of PepsiCo (4P) is aimed at its wide range of products which have evolved
over time. This is mostly due to acquisitions of companies with different products bringing them
all together under the PepsiCo brand. Many of PepsiCo s current brands and products have been
added to the product mix via acquisitions. For example, snack products were added after Pepsi
Cola acquired Frito Lay in 1965 forming a new company PepsiCo (Our History). Because it is a
global company the differences between the markets also require changes to the marketing mix in
each of its target markets. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

17. Essay on Fuel Economy in American Automobiles
Fuel efficiency in automobiles has become a topic of much discussion in recent years in the United
States. This is due largely to the environmental devastation that fuel emissions cause, but it is also
sparked by the rising fuel costs. Making cars with high fuel efficiency not only saves consumers
money, but also will drastically reduce the pollution that is caused by emissions. Today automakers
are putting a tremendous amount of effort into making their cars more fuel efficient, both to meet
government regulations and to make their car more appealing to the consumer. During the late
1900 s, fuel efficiencywas given very little thought by automakers. Instead, they competed with
each other by coming out with larger and more powerful... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first law that was passed to enforce this was the Energy Policy and Conservation Act, which
was passed by Congress in 1975. This law established a Corporate Average Fuel Economy
program, commonly known as the CAFE program, and it required automakers to drastically
increase the fuel efficiency of their vehicles. Consequently, by 1985, the average fuel efficiency
of automobiles had risen to 27.5 miles per gallon, which is very close to what it is today
(Bezdek 132,133). Because CAFE did not change the fuel efficiency standard until years later,
by the early 1980 s most automakers had met the fuel efficiency that was required for their
automobiles, so they started to pay more attention to the size and power of their vehicles. Instead
of building cars with better gas mileage each year, they built their cars bigger and with more
power, while keeping the fuel efficiency just high enough so that it met CAFE standards.
Accordingly, the gas mileage of vehicles has not increased significantly since the 1980 s (Bezdek
133). In fact, the average fuel efficiency of new passenger vehicles steadily declined from the 1980
s until 2004. This was due to the loopholes which car manufacturers found in the CAFE standards.
CAFE treated light trucks much more leniently than cars, and allowed them to have considerably
less fuel efficiency than cars. This caught the attention of car manufacturers, who then looked at
how CAFE defined a light truck. They

18. Essay on Analysis of Comparable Worth and the Common Good
The Federal Government has been struggling for almost four decades now to close the gap
between the wages of men and women. In the 1960 s, women were paid approximately 60 cents
for every dollar men received for their work. Although progress has been made since Congress
passed the Equal Pay Act in 1963, equality has not yet been achieved. Today, thirty six years later,
women still earn only seventy six percent of the wagesof men.
Early studies found convincing evidence that women were being construed as inferior when it came
to their work. Jobs that were dominated by women were paid less than male dominated jobs, not
because they were intrinsically worth less, but because they were dominated by women (Treiman
Hartmann, 1981:93; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jobs are judged similar, thus comparable, based on composite ratings of requirements such as skill,
effort, responsibility, or other factors valued by an organization. All in all, comparable worth is
necessary because discriminatory pay practices of the past were not fully addressed by equal
employment opportunity legislation, and thus effects have been perpetuated by conventional
pay administration practices (Taylor, 1989). Comparable worth rests on the theory that pay
differentials are caused by sex discrimination. It proposes that sexual segregation in jobs has
unjustly depressed women workers wages. According to Wittig (1989), we may look at how
this segregation has contributed to the wage gap from two viewpoints. Firstly, a significant
portion of the sex pay gap has undoubtedly been caused by job placement discrimination, which
has placed women into less skilled, less demanding jobs. Secondly, the gap may be caused by
female jobs being assigned lower pay, even when the jobs require skill equal to that in male jobs.
There are several ways that this discrimination may be sustained: 1) job segregation related to
prejudice by employers, consumers, and co workers; 2) devaluation of jobs performed primarily
by women and minority men; and 3) women and minority men s job choices, assertiveness about
pay, and other group tendencies (Wittig, 1989). So, how does one go about achieving comparable
worth in their organization, you may bee wondering? First, a method must be

In the play Hamlet, there are many relationships between parents and their children. There are
two families that can be used as examples, but many individual conclusions can be drawn for
each parent child relationship. The parenting techniques range from abstractly concerned to
downright negligent. As the play progresses, the relationships deteriorate and we learn how
parents choices can profoundly impact their children. Hamlet, the protagonist of the play, is a
young adult whose father recently died. Hamlet s uncle, Claudius, takes the throne for himself,
and takes the late King s wife to be his own as well. As if this were not frustrating enough,
Hamlet s father appears to Hamlet as a ghost saying he was killed by Claudius and wants Hamlet
to seek revenge on his murderer. Hamlet was disgusted with his mother prior to this knowledge,
but is now furious. The ghost of his father anticipates this and pleads with Hamlet not to judge his
mother. Hamlet promises to seek revenge for his father s sake, but is rather inactive in his pursuit.

with Claudius. His parents are concerned that his father s death has upset him and that he is slowly
losing his rationale. While this may be true, they do not understand why... Show more content on

attend residential schools far away from their community. The intent was to strip them of their
Indianess and force upon them to become white (Geddes). There was a definite agenda to erase
their memories of their culture and be westernized. They were considered inferior beings and
were not allowed to speak their language, nor were they allowed to see their families. These
Indigenous children were victims of repetitive emotional, sexual and physical abuse in these
residential schools. Irene painfully recalls her time at Duck Lake Indian Residential where she
was repeatedly sexually abused by the principal. At the young age of twelve the principal sent her
to be a maid for his friends without permission granted from her parents

29. `` Laundry Day `` By Fran Kimmel
Fairy tales tell us that once upon a time a girl met a boy; they fell in love, and lived happily ever
after. Reality is not that simple. Long term relationships force couples to become more acquainted
with each other, include themselves in each others worlds and eventually develop further
connections. However, a relationship can come to an end point and therefore one will try to come
back in the other s life. This type of relationship is remarked in Fran Kimmel s short storyLaundry
Day . The author suggests that getting rid of unhealthy relationship leads to happiness, the author
uses the protagonist s transformation, contrasting characters and symbols.
In the short story Laundry Day Fran uses contrasting characters to demonstrate that quitting a bad
relationship leads to happiness. First, Maxine, the dog represents happiness and Harvey, Gracie s ex
represents unhealthy relationship.
For example, when Gracie is looking at her reflection in the mirror, Gracie mentions that Max
found God in her life (6). When Gracie specifies that particular detail, the protagonist is
demonstrating that the dog has won Gracie s heart. Indeed, Max s pure love has open Gracie s
heart and brought themselves nearer to each other. In fact, the dog is her whole life when Harvey
left Gracie. Therefore, the author uses a dog to show us that leaving behind weak relationships can
cause positive emotions.
Moreover, after Gracie and Harvey little chat on the telephone Gracie said that

30. Egoism In Ayn Rand s Anthem
In Ayn Rand s book Anthem, The character Equality 7 2521 also known as Prometheus ran into
the uncharted forest after being told that his box of light was a sin to create because he now knew
more than his brother s in the uncharted forest he found out that the golden one had followed him.
Then the two uncovered homes from the unmentionable times. In the uncharted forest he
discovered the unspeakable word Ego . Throughout the book he expressed traits of an Egoist. But
in the book because prometheus had been in a dystopian society where they had to think of
themselves and their brothers as a whole they were not allowed to think of themselves. So was
Prometheus really a egoist? Or was it just his little bit of selfish coming out after not ever being
allowed to think about himself?
The sacred word is Ego. no one is allowed to speak this word in this dystopian society that Ayn
Rand creates in the book Anthem. When Equality was young he saw a man being burned at the
steak for discovering the unspeakable word from the unmentionable times. He said that the man
being burned was not screaming out in pain or asking for it to stop but rather he was smiling at
Equality. Equality said that it was like the man was trying to mouth the unspeakable word to
Equality. The way that Ayn Rand had Equality describe the man it seemed that he was different
then the rest of the people that Equality grew up with and knew. He seemed happier. As Equality
grew up he felt different than the other

31. Factors Affecting The Electoral Elections Of Zimbabwe And...
There are several factors affecting declining electoral turnout in Zimbabwe and South Africa. After
just twenty years of attainment of national independence from United Kingdom, in the year 2000,
Zimbabwe experienced what can only be termed a major setback in its transition to democracy.
Without threat of defeat from opposition parties, the ruling party ZANU PF had enjoyed
dominance in Zimbabwe, where they enjoyed victory after victory in elections. Zimbabwe
Parliamentary Elections of 2000 saw ZANU PF face formidable opposition from the newly formed
Movement for Democratic Change (MDC). However, according to independent observers,
extensive electoral fraud and voter intimidation occurred during this electionand ultimately, the
MDC won 57... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
South Africa has had overwhelming victories for the ruling party ANC since 1994 when they
first gained freedom from the apartheid regime. According to SA institute of Race Relations
(SAIRR) since 2009 most South did not participate in vote in national elections because even if
they don t vote things would stay the same no matter who wins the election while some say they
no longer see any party that is worth voting for. Most people just don t care about going to vote
because culturally they think it is other people who should vote, and not them. They feel that
voting is not important in their lives as it always seems unable change their lives whatever the
outcome of the elections. (2) There are cases of street vendors who have advanced the
explanation that they don t have time to go and queue even if they want to vote, as that may
mean possible loss of prospective revenue. (3) Disenchantment. Most people are just
disenchanted with voting especially in Zimbabwe where people have observed electoral fraud
taking place in front of them and the same bad people winning the elections. There is also a large
population in the Diaspora who unable to vote as the Zimbabwe constitution does not provide for
foreign voting which would allow citizens who are outside to be able to vote from outside
Zimbabwe.
2.Results:
South Africa Survey found that the proportion of South Africans who did not vote in national and
provincial elections increased from 14% in 1994

32. Understanding Cultural Differences Between The World And...
Introduction: There are around 196 countries in the world and the cultures and values differ
between the different countries. There are still similarities in some of the culture traits. In today s
world people are more willing to engage in global business and for this reason they need to be able
to adapt to the different cultures. As the cultures vary from country to country, people around the
world may face many difficulties during their communication. Many businesses have failed due to
the fact that they failed to fully assess the market they were entering in. The paper will portray
three different approaches that will aid in understanding cultural differences that can be utilized as
effective tools in conducting global business. These approaches are known as the context approach,
the cluster approach and the dimension approach. 1. Context Approach: This is one of the three
main approaches to understand cultural differences. Context approach is considered as the most
straightforward as it relies on a single dimension. In addition, there are two parts of the context
approach, known as: (i) High context cultures and (ii) Low context cultures. The two types of
contexts have different cultures, values, norms, and ways of thinking. In low context cultures such
as North American and Western European countries, communication usually takes place at face
value whereas, in high context cultures such as Asian and African countries, communication relies
upon unspoken condition. They

33. Importance Of Public Speaking Speech
Before I started taking UMUC SPCH 100, I never encountered a situation where I had to use
public speaking skills at all. Just the thought of having to speak in front of a class as a requirement
made me nervous. But that wasn t the only challenge I was facing mentally. Since I never had any
public speaking experience before, things such as body language, tone, eye contact, etc. were easily
forgotten since my last speechclass over five years ago. All of that was easily spotted in the
process of making my self introduction video when I kept deciding to do retakes repeatedly. In the
end, I managed to produce a product that would keep me from failing but it was nothing that I
could be proud of.
When it came time for the second speech to be due I was relieved almost that it would be
another prerecorded session. I thought about how I could have sort of cheat the fundamentals
of public speaking by just doing retakes any time I messed up. But my luck ran out when it was
changed to an in class project where we would use our peers as an interview partner. I was glad
that we have been doing a few impromptu speeches up to this point. Without any sort of warm
up beforehand it would have been a far worse speech than it already was. After interviewing my
partner, I thought I had compiled enough information but I failed to transition it to a well
organized speech. I took this as a good wakeup call that I really needed to practice the basic of
public speaking. After delivering my speech I

35. The Oil And Natural Gas
Everyday oil and natural gas is being found in new areas and being sought after by companies
who want to drill for and use those resources. More often than not these resources are under land
already owned by someone else so the companies must come to an agreement with the landowner
in order to get permission to drill for the oil and natural gas. Oil and gas are valuable commodities
for landowners and can mean an extra income. Instead of selling the land and completely giving up
their stake in the potential fortune most owners decide to negotiate a leasewith the company in
which both parties benefit from the resources.
Just because someone owns a piece of land does not mean he or she has the right to set up a lease

A landman (or woman) is a person whose job it is to secure leases on as large an area as possible
and they are either employed by oil and gas companies or work independently. Because these men
and women are professionals and are trained in the art of making sells using all possible tactics, it
is usually advised that landowners seek an attorney or some type of professional to assist in the
negotiations.
A lease in this context is a legal document or contract between a landowner who is the lessor and
a company (or individual) who is the lessee that grants the lessee rights to exploration and
development rights to potential subsurface mineral commodities. Today there is no standard oil
and gas lease form. At one point the Producers 88 form was considered the standard form but
today various oil and gas companies utilized several different types of lease forms as their starting
point for negotiations. Generally their are two broad types of oil and gas lease forms based on the
timing of the lease bonus payments. The most commonly used type is the Pay Up lease which no
bonus payments are due after the signing of the lease, instead the lessor gets one hundred percent of
the lease bonus money combined with annual rental payments up front. The other type is the Rental
Lease that is not as commonly used in which the lease, can lapse if the rentals are not paid in a
timely manner by the company which would ultimately result in the termination of

Excessive alcohol consumption is one of the possible causes of gout attacks. Many types of
alcohol, such as beer, are rich in purines. That is why alcohol can increase the production of uric
acid in the body. It can also reduce the effectiveness of some gout medications.
Furthermore, beverages that have been sweetened with high fructose corn syrup may increase the
risk of a gout attack. Limit your intake of those beverages and drink more water. Water can reduce
the risk of a gout attack by flushing out uric acid crystals.
Regular Exercise
Gout is such a painful condition, which is why many people who suffer from it avoid exercise.
However, you can actually reduce the risk of a gout attack by getting more physical activity in

37. Masculinity In Shakespeare s Time
Masculinity is not something given to you, but something you gain. And you gain it by winning
small battles with honor (Mailer, n.d). This quote by Norman Mailer faultlessly describes
masculinity in a way that should be considered and reflected on by the majority of people in our
society today. Masculinity may be difficult to understand, but as humans, we have the access and
ability to discover and examine all the possible meanings of masculinityby different scholars,
academics, peers and even through theatre to discover the true meaning of such ideologies we
choose to identify ourselves with. William Shakespeare is an extremely perceptive and suggestive
author who is rich in his writing. Although Shakespeare s writing is not solely a dialogue on
women s studies, it does nonetheless share and consists of issues in women s studies and gender
ideology. Not only does Shakespeare reflect, he occasionally supports the English Renaissance

However, when reflecting upon the character Orsino, one may begin to question this. A significant
attribute that exemplified masculinity was the Renaissance Beard. Sexual differences and
appearances in the early modern period have differed significantly in society s matters of these
distinctions today. In the Renaissance period, facial hair often granted masculinity as the beard
made the man (Fisher, 2009). The array of male features and prosthetic body parts such as the
genitals can definitely distinguish the differences between male and female, however, in the
Renaissance period, something as simple as the growth of a beard will signify manhood. Therefore,
it is obvious that masculinity can be presented through a combination of

Developing countries such as Ethiopia, located in Africa, have a different perspective and way of
implicating nursing practices than nurses in Australia do. According to The World Bank survey
taken in 2010, Australia has 9.6 nurses for every thousand citizens counted compared to Ethiopia,
who has a low 0.2 nurses for every thousand citizens counted (The World Bank, 2010). These

attained when studying in Australia, which is shown through the length of the nursing degree, and
although both Australia and Ethiopia have very similar nursing guidelines and infection prevention
guidelines, the rules and regulations are put into practice in very different manners. Prevention of
disease and infection is taken more seriously, and is seen as a very important procedure in Australia

39. The International Expansion Into Shanghai
The Greek philosopher Heraclitus is commonly attributed with the idea that nothing is constant but
change (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, 2011). This is particularly true in business. If an
organization is not changing and evolving with the market then they are stagnating and falling
behind. In this exercise XYZ, Inc. is pursuing an international expansion into Shanghai, China
followed by an expansion into four other international markets a year later. I believe XYZ, Inc.
should use the Systems Contingency Model to launch the international expansion in Shanghai
because this changemodel is complex enough to incorporate all the environmental requirements and

The second and most complex phase is the transformation phase. During transformation,
organizational leadership must follow through on the vision. This is where the hard work takes
place by creating, manufacturing, and finalizing the product before distribution (Weiss, 2012).
Leadership will need to adhere to the organization s vision and strategy while ensuring that
employees have the resources required to complete their assignments and respond to changing
requirements in the new environment. This includes secure supply lines and an anticipation of the
foreign commercial marketplace.
If leadership at XYZ, Inc. has done their job properly it will be reflected in the output phase.
Success will be shown at the organizational level by percentage of market share, product quality and
competitiveness. At the group level success will result in synergy, performance and effectiveness.
Finally, at the individual level success will find employee satisfaction, performance, and
development and growth (Weiss, 2012). That is to say that when everything is running as it should,
when all dimensions are in sync, the System contingency model shows success in short term change.
The long term, large scale change into the B.R.I.C. countries is more of a transformational change
in that it includes a shift in radically different markets that require a different strategy and skills
(Weiss, 2012). Leadership must

41. Devil in a Blue Dress Rhetorical Analysis Novel vs. Film...
Devil in a Blue Dress: Novel vs. Film The hardboiled mystery novel, Devil in a Blue Dress, by
Walter Mosley was first published in 1990 and was acknowledged by former U.S. President, Bill
Clinton, as one of his many favorite novelists (Easy Writer). Taking place in post war Los
Angeles, the story is narrated by an African American laborer, Easy Rawlins, who is transformed
into an L.A. detective after being pulled in to the affairs of local townspeople. The successful novel
continued onto screen adaptation in 1995 and was directed by Carl Franklin and starred Denzel
Washington, who also financed and produced the film(Easy Writer). From a well liked hardboiled

In addition to the differences seen through Easy s point of view, there are also several
differences in how the author and director utilize certain effects to obtain a dark tone. The screen
adaptation paid homage to the dark tone perceived in the novel through lighting and a voiceover
narration from Easy. Several scenes in the movie appear to have darker lighting than others.
This effect allows viewers to feel the mysterious and secretive mood that is intended. In the
scene where Easy visits John s nightclub the lighting in the movie portrays the room as very
dark and musty. The room itself is very enclosed and secretive since the owner, John, was into
the speakeasy business before Prohibition was repealed. The nightclub itself is for the black
community and has a very low key reputation. To show the secretive, mysterious reputation of the
nightclub, Franklin shoots the scene with little to no lighting (Devil in a Blue Dress Movie
1995). Throughout the film the audience is led through Easy s point of view, which is heard
through his voiceover narration. According to a movie review by Edwin Jahiel, Washington s
voice is rather too sweet, lacks the tough staccato... . Again, we see actors blocking take effect as
Washington attempts to live up to his typical role as the good guy . The movie takes a much
different approach towards Easy s character, which results in a smooth, legato narration. His short,
