Human s Helpful Nature Can Sometimes Do More Harm Than Good
Humans prove to be extremely influential, whether it is answering a question in an interview, or
recollecting every detail about a crime, their answers can be impacted by the actions of the
interviewer. Human s helpful nature can sometimes do more harm than good.
Often in times a witness trying to be more helpful by recollecting things they do not remember can
have dire consequences, such as a conviction of the wrong person. During the experiment conducted
by Elizabeth Loftus, many people were asked about details about a crime committed, each question
dictated a different answer depending on two things; how the question is asked, and who asked the
question (Eyewitness testimony: Psychological aspects, 2009).
There are many positive uses for open ended, as well as closed ended questions, both have their
place at specific moments in an interview. Open ended questions can be extremely useful to get a
substantial amount of information, but they are not always the best ways to ask specific questions.
Closed ended questions can allow an interviewer to control the interview more easily. Interviewers
can control an interview in many ways, most of these controls are positive aspects to an interview;
one thing an interviewer should not control however, is the answers being given. This is referred to
as leading, leading questions can control the witness to say exactly what the interviewer is hoping
for them to say, which can conclude in a wrongful conviction. Asking a question that

Marijuana in the New World Essay
Marijuana in the New World The first definite record of the marijuana plant in the New World dates
from 1545 AD, when the Spaniards introduced it into Chile. It has been suggested, however, that
African slaves familiar with marijuana as an intoxicant and medicine brought the seeds with them
to Brazil even earlier in the sixteenth century. There is no record that the Pilgrims brought
marijuana with them to Plymouth but the Jamestown settlers did bring the plant to Virginia in
1611, and cultivated it for its fiber. Marijuana was introduced into New England in 1629. From then
until after the Civil War, the marijuana plant... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
British mercantile policy hampered American hemp culture for a time during and after the colonial
period by offering heavy bounties on hemp exported from Ireland; but the American plantings
continued despite this subsidized competition. At various times in the nineteenth century large
hemp plantations flourished in Mississippi, Georgia, California, South Carolina, Nebraska, and
other states, as well as on Staten Island, New York. The center of nineteenth century production,
however, was in Kentucky, where hemp was introduced in 1775. One Kentuckian, James L.
Allen, wrote in 1900: The Anglo Saxon farmers had scarce conquered foothold in the Western
wilderness before they became sowers of hemp. The roads of Kentucky . . . were early made
necessary by the hauling of hemp. For the sake of it slaves were perpetually being trained, hired,
bartered; lands perpetually rented and sold; fortunes made and lost.... With the Civil War began the
decline, lasting still. The invention of the cotton gin and of other cotton and wool machinery, and
competition from cheap imported hemp, were major factors in this decline

Skeletal System Case
Skeletal System Case Study Molly Hennard Wright State University Skeletal System Case Study
In this case study, an 18 year old boy was brought to the emergency room after a football game
injury. He had an open fracture on his wrist and after an x ray was taken, it showed that his wrist
was broken into three parts and a small part of that was showing through the skin. The patient was
admitted to the hospital so that he could undergo surgery to repair the fracture. Case Study

Osteomyelitis is caused by parasites, bacteria, viruses and fungi getting into the bone and bone
marrow. Since the patient had an open fracture, this allowed for bacteria and viruses to get past
the skin and enter into the bone. This greatly increases his risk for osteomyelitis. Also, having to
have surgery to fix the fracture also increases the risk. Infection could be caused in the bone as
well as septic joints during joint replacement surgery can all lead to osteomyelitis. There can also
be infections that occur during the healing process after surgery that lead to osteomyelitis. Overall,
anything that will keep the wound open and allow possible bacteria and viruses into the body can

Bullying At The State Of Nevada
We all might still recall back to our school days and the bully on the playground making recess
intolerable for some; or perhaps in the lunch room bully who helped themselves to our desserts.
That bully might have ended up in the principal s office, but likely not much more became of
them. Bullies have always been around, but now they have changed their preferred tactics. With the
growth of technology making our ordinary lives simpler, criminals and bullies have also used
technology to aid them in their transgressions. Many bullies have advanced to become cyber bullies
and their chosen scare tactic makes use of computers, cellular phones, or some other type of
communications device. What then is the actual definition of the act of bullying? Bullying in the
State of Nevada is defined as carrying out actions that may be highly offensive to a reasonable
person and intended to cause the student to suffer harm or serious emotional distress (Cyberbully
tactics are focus of state law, 2010). Cyber bullying elsewhere is bullying by means of electronic
communication (Cyberbully tactics are focus of state law, 2010). In Texas, bullying means
engaging in written or verbal expression or physical conduct that will physically harm another
student or student s property, or is persistent enough to create an intimidating or threatening
educational environment for a student (Grobe, 2012). These definitions are typical of those used in
other states. Advances in

Food Safety Practices By Consumers, New Zealand
Summary This study identifies that costs of food safety are high in the developed world, and
consumer awareness on food safety practices is lacking especially in younger consumers. The
explosion of ever increasing fast food chains and poor food eating practices by Consumers, New
Zealanders increasingly are getting affected by Obesity and diseases such as Diabetes.
According to the World Health Organisation, New Zealand has an Obesity rate of 27% (who.int,
2008) and is ranked the 12th most overweight country in the world (nzherald.co.nz, 2013).
225,000 kiwis also have either Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes (diabetes.org.nz, 2012). It can be
argued that because of the increases in rates of Diabetes and Obesity, consumers are scared of
the impacts to their health and wellbeing as they grow older and are increasingly becoming more
health conscious in the choices they make for food consumption. In the US, 64% of Consumers
now agree that it s important to eat healthy foods compared to 57% in 2010 (newhope360.com,
2013). As consumers become more health conscious, food producers and sellers look to take
advantage of this to promote and sell their food in new and different ways that might be perceived
as healthier options. One such method that is changing consumer food preference is the emergence
of local Weekend Food Markets as a hip and trendy way to sell food to consumers versus traditional
retail avenues such as supermarkets and grocery stores. Consumers arguably favour these

From the Mind to the Body, Self Comes to Mind
From the Mind to the Body, Self Comes to Mind The mind emerged from the body through the
originations of conscious thoughts in an introspective manner that is accessible to the self. A
connection between mind and body eventually developed a proprietor within the thinking mind.
The neuropsychologist Antonio Damasio believes that a mindwith subjectivity is a conscious mind,
otherwise one would not know of his existence, who he is, and what he thinks (Damasio, 2010). At
some point in time, the mind developed feelings towards the experience of the connected me
(Damasio, 2010). The human mind somehow collaborated with the body and began to differentiate
between their inner world with subjective experiences, and the objective... Show more content on

Furthermore, Damasio breaks down the self as knower into three steps that together compose
the knower. These divisions are knowns as the protoself, composed of primordial feeling, the
core self, which is action driven, and the autobiographical self that incorporates social and
spiritual dimensions (Damasio, 2010). These aspects of the self are indispensable to construct
the conscious mind, and according to Damasio, one needs to account for these aspects before
trying to comprehend the neural basis of the conscious mind. Damasio and Bownds agree on the
fact that human minds are shaped and biased by their culture, and the society that they lived in
(Bownds, and Damasio). Bownds explains that the human knowledge is based on a
preconceived idealization of what they already know. Consequently, a human mind is considered
circular because they are formed by the same environment that they try to describe (Bownds,
1999). Consider the mechanic system that a zipper comprises for an instance. The zipper slider
joins together two sides of a sweater in order to close the sweater and make it work. In the same
way, the mind works along with the body. One can attribute the function of the zipper slider to the
brain and the sides to the body, but specifically the side in which the zipper, or the brain, is
attached, can represent the peripheral nervous system. In a way, the zipper slider, like

Female Characters, By John Wyndham
Female characters are influential in John Wyndham s The Chrysalids. In the novel, three women
are of paramount importance in comparison to all others in shaping David s views and opinions:
Sophie, the Sealand woman, and Aunt Harriet. In the society of Waknuk, individuals exhibit
prejudice repeatedly throughout the novel through their own blinkered treatment of deviations.
David Strorm s, a twelve year old boy whose parents brought him up in such lifestyle, interactions
with those three women throughout the novel sways him to have second thoughts about it.
Their dealings with David each have a particular impact on his life. Sophie allows for doubt to
enter David s life for the first time; the Sealand woman expands his views and prompts him to
consider other beliefs different from those of his society; and Aunt Harriet makes him more
conscious of his society s despicable activities and more attentive to it. In John Wyndham s The
Chrysalids, Sophie, the Sealand woman, and Aunt Harriet are instrumental in influencing David s
outlook on society. Sophie allows for doubt to pierce its way into David s life for the first time. At
the start of the novel, when David first meets Sophie, he gets an insight into a deviant s life. She
has proven to be the first blow to efficiently impact David s thoughts and make him question the
authenticity of his society s belief system. It is hind sight that enables me to fix that as the day
when my first small doubts started to germinate.

The American Black Bear ( Ursus Americanus )
Habitat can be considered as the optimal location where any one species can live, reproduce, and
grow in an ecological time scale (Kellner et al. 1992). As the climatic conditions of the world are
changing at a rapid pace, it is important to understand how species will adapt with the weather and
learn to adjust their way of living. Understanding how a species survives in different climatic
regions is very important for the future management of the species population and habitat. With this
knowledge an individual could more efficiently manage their habitat to make it more suitable for
the species to live under the given climatic conditions.
The American black bear (Ursus americanus) is native to North America, more specifically Canada
and northern and southeastern United States. Ursus americanus once ranged from Mexico and all
throughout United States and into Canada, but as human population increased and climatic
conditions have changed, Ursus americanus moved to locations with lower populations and cooler
climates, which are northern North America as well as southeastern United States. Ursus
americanus are found with the highest populations in Canada and northwestern United states where
there are lower human populations, larger forests, and cooler climates. Landscape will vary
throughout North America as will the choice of habitat for Ursus americanus. Important habitat
factors to consider for Ursus americanus include food availability, water proximity, and den

Sociology as Essay
Examine the ways in which sociologists can contribute to our understanding of how social identity
is shaped by gender. (24 marks)
An identity is who we are, this is made up of how we see ourselves and how others see us. Social
identity is based on one s membership to particular groups in society. This essay will examine the
way in which sociologist contribute to our understanding by providing theories and ideas of how
social identity is shaped by gender.
Ann Oakley, a feminist sociologist suggested that there are four ways in which gender socialization
takes place during primary socialization. These are manipulation, canalization, verbal appellations,
and different activities. Manipulation is when parents encourage behaviour that is ... Show more

Parents direct their child interest into certain behaviour according to their gender, for example
when boys are younger they are encouraged to play football and be aggressive and they are
discouraged from crying. And girls are encouraged to play with dolls and to look after their
appearance. Feminists believe this is how an individual s social identity is shaped by gender.
However post modernists sociologists criticize the feminist theory. Post modernists believe that
due to social and economic changes, female role and identities are changing. The changes in the
job market has led to a decline in traditional labour jobs that employed men and new jobs in the
service sector are increasing. These jobs in the service sector are aimed at employing women. As
women are going out to work their values are changing so female identities are changing.
Similarly today s idea of masculinity is different, there are other types of masculinity today, and it
is viewed differently. Bob Connell, a Post modernist sociologist believed that men have become
more in touch with their feminine side and there are now more househusbands and New men. A
househusband is a man that is more involved at home. So the man would take care of the children,
and does the chores as well. Also the fact that celebrities such as David Beckham, a male who is
more concerned with his image, has led to men believing, this is how they should act and behave
as well, it gives men something to look

Pierre Ambroise Francois Choderlos Laclos wrote what was one of the most scandalous writings
of his time. He was born October 18th 1741 and died September 5th, 1803 at the age of 61. He
was considered a beginners writer and to have a morbid look on human relations which is what he

Dangerous Liaisons is a thrilling and enthralling account of the sordid, scandalous aspiring and
often secretive lives of the noble class in the 18th century right before the French Revolution.
Dangerous liaisons brings to life a tale of betrayal and revenge through aristocratic women and a
rather promiscuous noble young man. As these aristocratic women are eager to climb the social
ladder and find loves that are befitting them and their social class they are unaware they are apart
of an elaborate scheme for a mere women s amusement and experimentation. The book is written as
though they are letters between everyone involved from main characters Madame de Tourvel,
Vicomte de Valmont, Cecile, Madame de Volanges, Marquise De Merteuil, and Madame de
Rosemunde. There are many themes coming into play that are most prominent during the 18th
century in daily noble lives. First being that of war a minor fight in Corsica, is in the background
of Dangerous Liaisons. War is also discussed in saying that battle is the metaphor Merteuil and
Valmont use to describe their sexual exploits. Either you have a rival or you don t. If you have

Ehrlichiosis Research Papers
Ehrlichiosis and Anaplasmosis
Ehrlichiosis and anaplasmosis are diseases caused by bacteria and carried by ticks. Other names
for these infections are:
Human monocytic ehrlichiosis (HME).
Human granulocytotropic anaplasmosis (HGA).
CAUSES
These diseases are caused by a bite from an infected adult tick.
RISK FACTORS
These diseases are more likely to occur between late spring and early fall. This is when ticks are
active.
SYMPTOMS
Many infected people have no symptoms. For those with symptoms, HME and HGA cause similar
illnesses. Symptoms typically begin one week or more after a tick bite and may include:

The Beginning Of The Xx
Introduction
The beginning of the XX century was marked by the struggle of Iran to maintain the national
independence in the face of Russian and British economic and colonial pressure and to save the
Persian culture. These attempts to preserve and resurrect national consciousness were skilfully
used by the revolutionary politicians in their struggle for power and the majority approval. The
Western idea of nationhood and the sense of belonging to a greater nation with similar linguistic
and racial characteristics were developed in post Napoleonic Europe and became crucial in the
unification of countries such as Italy and Germany whereas in Iran this process have partially
resulted from the reaction to the foreign influences. Likewise in ... Show more content on

Iran at different points during the modernization reforms in the first half of XX century under Reza
Shah Pahlavi. To address this aim, the first section will look at the historical preconditions of
nationalism in Iran during the late Qajar dynastic rule and early years of Pahlavi s rule. Then it will
focus on the political roots of nationalism in Iran during the modernization by Reza Shah Pahlavi.
The role of education and propaganda as the main tools of the nationalism spread and development

nationalism was predominantly implanted idea from above by demonstrating the inconsistencies
between the modernizing nationalist doctrine and the Islamic nature and philosophy of Iranian

the constitutional monarchy of Reza Shah Pahlavi and it used language, history and ethnicity in
order to maintain the public support.

Should Children Be Restricted To Media Screens Analysis
In my opinion children should not be restricted from spending time in front of media screens.
One reason why children should nt be restricted to media screens is because teconology gives
children who are visual learners acces to educational videos where they would learn faster than
reading about it. Another reason is because since 2015 the American Academy of Pediatrics
(AAP) changed their guidelines for children screen watching. They now support children and
parents to play video games together. Also children have showed researchers that watching TV
with their parents has reduced anger and fear. Children who are visual learners have a hard time

The Measure Results Of The Data Sets
The measure results of the data sets are not surprising. The means of each of the independent
variables reflect the arbitrary evaluations of each of these parameters. All the variables have
relatively small standard errors compare to their mean. Also, the medians and the means mostly lie
fairly close to each other, in another word, the means well indicate the actual distribution of the
data sets. One of the possible concerns is that per capita disposable income has both high standard
deviationand high variance. This result can be reasonable because of the extreme scatterings of
incomes due to demographics, social classes, and other kinds of factors.
Furthermore, the inflation rate jumped to 4.1% in 2007 and dropped to 1.7% in 2012, which can
also be a factor that causes the change in per capita dollar value, eventually being reflected in the
result.
The predictors are relatively consistent with the hypothesized model for the values of digital
music singles downloaded in the U.S. with the exception of PUI, the percentage individuals using
Internet. As a percentage variable that oscillates between 0 and 1, it is more difficult to
understand exactly how a 1 percent change in the Internet usage would directly impact value of
digital music singles downloaded in the U.S. other than knowing that an increase in percentage
usage would lead to a decrease in the value of digital music singles downloaded. For the other

Leading Through Change
Leading Through and Beyond Change | L7451 A01
There are many reasons that change can or must occur within and organization. The key will be in
understanding the organization and the prospective change. According to Mangundjaya (2015)
there are many variables that can influence the success of organizational change, such as the content
of the change, the process of the change, individual characteristics, leadership, external environment
and organizational context (p. 67). Organizational change has the potential to successfully align an
organization with its goals or completely derail any future success and progress. It is important that
the organization takes the proper steps to prepare for, implement, and evaluate change.
I believe that a key to leading through, and accepting, change can be effective communication.
Although everyone may not be able to accept change, they should make that decision with proper
information on hand. Fullan (2015) stated that Consistent communication during implementation is
essential to getting the collective clarity and energy necessary for success. Communication sticks

Age Of Enlightenment DBQ
The Age of Enlightenment, a movement during the 17th and 18th century started from the
Europeans, later moving into American colonies. The point of this movement was for the society to
reform on a new base such as emphasizing reason and individualism over tradition. Enlightenment
thinkers, Montesquieu, Rousseau, Beccaria, Locke, and Voltaire helped launched this project
amongst Europeans. John Locke, for example, criticized absolute monarchy and favored self
government. Voltaire also believed that people should be able to speak their minds without the fear
they may be punished. Through these philosophy influence, this eventually leads to European
rulers ruling with a sense of equality, democratic governance, and abolition. John Locke known as
an Enlightenment thinker believed in the equality between men. A state also of equality, wherein
all the power and jurisdiction is reciprocal, no one having more than another...by an evident and
clear appointment, an undoubted right to dominion and sovereignty (Doc. 2). John Locke stated
this in 1690 with the meaning that everyone is equal no matter what their rank or power may be.

Examples Of Appeasement
Appeasement was merely a catalyst that aids in the materialization of Hitler s ambitions which
was the main driving force to Hitler s expansionist policies. Appeasement is a policy of making
material concessions to an enemy power which is Adolf Hitler, the dictator of Germany in this
context in order to avoid conflict and maintain peace. Main driving force can also be defined as the
biggest motivation for Hitler to pursue his expansionist policies which is his ideas of establishing
Lebenstraum and Greater Germany. Thus, appeasement to a small extent, is the main driving force
behind Hitler s expansionist policies.

Appeasement made Hitler bolder in his expansionist policies. An example of appeasement is the
Reoccupation of Rhineland. When Hitler ordered his soldiers to march into Rhineland,
breaching the terms of TOV, France was prepared to force Hitler back down if Britain agreed to
support her. However, Britain wanted to avoid going to war by all means so Britain appease
Hitler by not doing anything to force him to back down. France believed that there were 295,000
men stationed in Rhineland which in reality was a bluff and was not confident of fighting
Germany alone so she backed away. Thus, Hitler was able to invade Rhineland. The
appeasement made it an easy way for Hitler to acquire more land even though he did not have
enough soldiers because even countries like France and British believed that Germany s military
was that strong and were willing to give in easily to Hitler s demand. Also, appeasement resulted
Hitler to become even bolder in his expansionist policies by demanding more lands as he knew
that Britain and France was the most unwilling to fight a war and would not put a stop to his
actions even if it means breaking the international law. Thus, appeasement was a small driving force

Internet Filters Affecting Educational Research
Problematic
A shocking 37% of educational websites are most likely to be blocked when internet filters are
applied to the school internet. This affects educational research for schools, however, this seems to
be overlooked quite often. With this in mind we should allow schools to provide unfiltered internet
access because online censorship causes educational research to be more strenuous the filters used
can be easily bypassed by a VPN (Virtual Private Network), and having unfiltered internet access
prepares kids for this unfiltered world we prosper in.
When you live in an unfiltered world trying to strain and filter the web isn t a solution in fact, itВґs
more of a problem on the same subject as Melinda D. Anderson in her study she stated, ВЁIf we
believe any technical solution like filtering will keep us totally safe, that is
misplacedВЁ(Anderson). We can t play pretend and act as if this world is a soft and kid friendly

Introduction
The presence of natural resources in a country is supposed to a positive addition towards realizing
development goals. Both economic and social development is supposed to benefit from
approximated revenues that are to be generated from mining industries. However, the views that
natural resources are a major source of economic and social growth has been scrutinized over the
past decade, with the rising number of countries where resources expectations have not been met
having contributed to these reviews (Collier). These reviews have led to the emergence of two
major views with regards to the relationship that exist between natural resources and general
national development. These views are; the conventional view and the alternative view. The
conventional view holds that there still exist a positive relationship between natural resources and
growth while the alternative view uses the examples of countries where growth has declined or

Buying A Used Car
When shopping for a car, it s easy to find yourself attracted to the shiny new vehicles that are out
there. You might see them on commercials on TV, and you might see them when you drive by the
new car dealerships in your area. No matter how appealing a new car might seem, though, buying
used can be a better decision. These are four ways that buying a used car can help you save money.
1. Lower Purchase Price
Perhaps the most obvious reason why a used car can save you money is the fact that you can
generally enjoy a lower purchase price. Even if you re on a tight vehicle budget, you can probably
find a used car that will suit your needs and that you can afford.
Even though you might still end up with a car payment if you choose to finance your used
purchase, the payments will probably be cheaper than if you were to purchase a brand new car.
Plus, you can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cheaper Insurance
There are actually two reasons why you can often save money on insurance for a used car. For
one thing, since the value of a used car is usually much lower than the value of a new one, the cost
of insurance is often lower. Plus, if you choose to buy with cash rather than financing your
purchase, you can always opt to just pay for liability insurance rather than full coverage.
3. More Affordable Vehicle Registration
In some states, vehicle registration costs are based off of the value of the vehicle that you are
registering. If you re registering a brand new car, you might find that your registration costs will
be higher due to the higher value of the vehicle. With a used car, though, the registration costs and
fees might be lower. This means that you may be able to get the license plate for your car for less
by buying used.
4. Cheaper Repairs
Many people don t put much thought into the cost of ownership when buying a vehicle, but
maintenance and repairs can take a big chunk out of your budget if you aren t careful. If you buy a
used car, however, you might be able to save on these

Mark Knapp s Model Of Relation Stages
In a developmental perspective of relational dynamics, communications researcher Mark Knapp,
developed a model of relation stages. In Knapp s model, he included 10 stages, within 2 broad
phases, coming together at the beginning of the relationship and coming apart at the end. The first
phases encompasses the first 5 stages, the last phase includes the last 5. However, other researchers
have suggested that a third phase, relational maintenance, should be included. This stage
encompasses the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh stages. These ten stages are as follows. As the
first step, Initiating is the act of making contact and sowing that you are worth interacting with.
This stage tends to be quite brief and is typically includes handshakes, small talk, and friendly
expressions. Moving forward, Experimenting is the second stage. The experimenting stage... Show

During integrating, the parties begin to interact as more of a social unit. At this point both people in
the relationship, start to take on characteristics of each other. Bonding, the fifth stage, is when the
parties then go show the world that their relationship exists. This is typically when the relationship
is given its most legitimacy. Differentiating, the sixth stage, is considered to be the beginning of the
downward slope in Knapp s model. Within this stage, you start to see the individuals involved in the
relationship, begin to pull away from each other. Now, this may seem like a negative, however it
can be a positive action. By pulling away from each other they are able to maintain their individual
identities while also maintaining a commitment to the relationship. At the seventh step,
Circumscribing, members of the relationship tend to decrease their communication in quantity and
quality. This is considered to be the opposite of the integrating stage, due to the fact that there is a

Predictably Irrational By Dan Ariely
I have always been fascinated by the inner workings of the mind. Why we act the way we do in
certain situations and why we act irrationally. Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely attempts to
explore and answer these questions. He covers irrationality from a variety of topics such as human
relationships and market dynamics, but the implications are valid in any field that requires decision
making. Two topics that Ariely covers in the book are: the zero price effect and the endowment
effect. With each of these topics, Ariely challenges the reader to rethink their current decision
making process and to step outside the irrational mind of the consumer. Dan Arielystates:

Give a product away and it can go viral. Charge a single cent for it and you re in an entirely

powerful indeed, as any marketer will tell you (Anderson, 2008). Ariely is aware of the power of
free and offers suggestions to policy makers. For example, governments attempt to persuade the
population to receive regular health checks; in some cases running large advertising campaigns and
reducing the price of the health check. Ariely suggests that instead of spending money on
campaigns around creating awareness, put the money towards making the health check free (Ariely,
2008). While this may not apply to a country with free health care, the same general takeaway is
still relevant: free is an emotional button that can change a rational consumer into an irrational

Improving The Lives Of Adult Learners Essay
Using Screencast o matic in UMUC s Undergraduate Writing Program
University of Maryland University College has the mission of improving the lives of adult
learners (UMUC, 2016). In the Undergraduate School, the writing program contributes to this
mission by providing helping students meet their academic and professional goals through
writing instruction. Adult learners lead busy lives. They typically are balancing school with
other responsibilities such as work and family. Therefore, the writing program seeks technology
that helps students succeed being quick and easy to use. It is also beneficial if the technology
can be used in mobile platforms, as busy adult students might be completing school related tasks
while on the go. Screencast o matic creates screen capture videos, or screencasts, and can be
beneficial for all students taking courses in UMUC s writing program. Courses in the writing
program incorporate a process of drafting and revision, in which instructors provide feedback on
drafts of written work, and then students are tasked with revising their work based on that
feedback. Course format is either fully online or hybrid. In either case, students submitting papers

method by which all UMUC writing instructors provide feedback on student drafts.

V s character type is a complex one to say the least. He is a terrorist, anarchist, philosopher and a

terrorist and still be good, but this factor is what sets V apart from traditional heroes. It is the
fact that the world he lives in is so corrupt and power hungry that he can destroy building and still

understanding and intimidation does she truly realize what it s like to live without fear. Secondary

The Gold Standard Peter Ferra Summary
The author, Peter Ferrara, opens the article by introducing his topic: the gold standard. He explains
that today s Americans have no true conception of what the gold standard is, blaming this on
modern media and lack of education. The author then begins to shape an argument by discussing
the history of the gold standard in the United Statesthoroughly. He points out the insignificant effect
that tying the U.S. dollar to gold had on inflation, and uses phrases from the Constitution to support
the implementation of the gold standard. Later in the article, Ferrara uses historical statistics
involving the value of the dollar to exemplify the negative effect of abandoning the gold standard
on the United States economy. He continues to support his argument by giving modern examples
of economic failure as a result of the U.S. dollar not being supported by gold.... Show more content

His reasons revolve around the effect that the gold standard would have on the American people
if reinstated. The author claims there would be no inflation on working wages, and investments
in America would increase, since the value of money would not change. Lower tax rates and
increased savings would cause an increase in American capital investment, leading to holistic
growth in the U.S. economy. Ferrara s evidence is even more convincing. In the article, the author
compares the value of gold and the dollar before the abandonment of the gold standard to today s
values, stressing the weakening power of the U.S. dollar. He then demonstrates the difference in
economic growth before and after America released the gold standard, stating When America was
on the gold standard, the real rate of economic growth averaged nearly 4% a year. Since then real
annual growth has stagnated at about 25% less. His evidence is both convincing and useful in

Essay on Standard Machines Pricing
I. Who should take the blame for getting Standard Machines Corp into the crisis it faces vis Г vis
closing on a major sale with an established account?
The blame for Standard Machine Corp can be directed in one of three ways:
Industry: One could argue that innovation in the machine tool equipment industry has been
stagnant and resulting caused customers to view machines as commodities and compete on price.
Another thought is that the industry allowed a low cost player to enter and therefore put the
premium priced equipment manufactures in a position of having to rationalize their price.
Unfortunately, competition on price erodes industry margins and profits.

Although we do not believe that it is wise for Standard Machine Corp to lower their prices,
essentially commoditizing their products, it is important for them to manage their customer
relationships on an individual basis. By this we mean that Standard should find ways to justify their
price premium. This may be done by offering packages uniquely customized to retain their long
term clients. Specifically, for long term customers like Occidental, Standard must justify their
$22,000 premium over their competitors within the market.
One way to address this issue would be through rebates. Standard could offer customized rebate
packages to its premium customers, like Occidental. Although they are, in effect, lowering their
prices for Occidental, they are not sending a negative signal to the market. An outright price
decrease could create a price war, where their competitors continue to drive down their own prices,
further commoditizing Standard s line of products. A rebate would offer an incentive for Occidental
to purchase, because the company knows that they will be rewarded on the back end.
Another way for Standard to remedy this pricing situation is to offer additional services along with
its milling machine in order to further differentiate themselves from their competitors. Standard s
package could include an unlimited warrantee for a specified amount of time greater than that of its
competitor, and an increase in on site

Romanticism In Eugene Delacroix s Liberty Leading The People
Eugene Delacroix s Liberty Leading the People is an oil painting that stands at 8′ 6″ x 10′
8″, commemorating the July Revolution of France in 1830. The painting, when first displayed
at the 1831 Salon, an annual exhibition of French Art, was met with strong reactions of
disapproval due to his Romanticism influences and was later banned from public viewing. The
19th century experienced a transition from the Enlightenment Period of logic and reason, to the
Romanticism artistic movement, of which Eugene Delacroix was a leading figure. Romanticism,
as explained by Kathryn Calley Galitz, emphasized subjectivity, imagination, and emotion, much
of which is evident in Liberty Leading the People. Delacroix, instead of painting an actual scene
of warfare, chose to balance out the chaotic nature of battle by incorporating both realism and
idealism into his painting. Zelazko explains that Delacroix did not participate in the uprising
because of his dependence on royal commissions, but instead chose to take part by creating a
work of art that overwhelmingly encompasses all aspects of that historic day. Posthumously, the
painting was moved to the Louvre in Paris, France where the response was more favorable, and
today critics regard his work as a masterpiece with a unique take on this historical event. In Liberty
Leading the People, the unification of civilian fighters that form the rising French Republic march
through the ruins of the fallen empire of King Charles X. The Encyclopedia

creative powers, and his theatrical company, the King s Men, was the official royal acting
company. He had the large Globe Theater, a large public playhouse on the south bank of the

The historical Macbeth had become king in the year 1040 when he killed the previous king,
Duncan, in battle. To put this in a historical context, this is hardly the Middle Ages; it s still the
Dark Ages, as historians have termed the various stages of European history. It is 26 years
before the Norman invasion of England, which is generally considered to be the beginning of
the medieval period in Britain. In 1040 Macbeth became king and ruled for 17 years until he
was overthrown and killed by Duncan s son, who became King Malcolm III. Malcolm is famous
primarily because he married an English princess named Margaret who was later made a saint.
According to the Scottish historian Archibald Duncan, little is known about Macbeth and his
lovely wife Grunnich, except that they were pious and endowed a religious house at St. Andrew
s (which is probably the caddy shack on the fourth green of that famous golf course joke). The
couple went on a religious pilgrimage to Rome where, the chroniclers said, they sowed money like
seed. (Many of us when we go on vacation do the same thing.) That s all we know for certain about
the real Macbeth. Now the fact that Macbeth killed the previous king was not a big deal. Of the
eight Scottish kings who ruled during this time, seven had died unnatural deaths, including several
who burned to death until suspicious circumstances. It was highly unusual for a Scottish

The Reason That Chip Wilson Plunged Lululemon Into Crisis
Analysis The reason that Chip Wilson plunged Lululemon into crisis again is because of three
major issues: lack of media training as a spokesperson, lack of comprehensive crisis
management plan in the company, and failure of internal communication. First of all,
spokesperson media training is part of crisis preparation. In this case, lacking media training
includes training for a TV interview and training for filming a video apology. Prior to Chip
Wilson s interview with Bloomberg TV, managers from the PR department should have
conducted a comprehensive media training to Wilson. Topics cover from diagnosing company s
vulnerabilities, to preparing for difficult questions, to how to utilize chances to re enhance the
company s image, and how to risk averse after a major crisis. As Wilson s answer caused another
crisis, I assume that he was not ready to answer the questions of sheer pants recall, nor he was ever
participated in any media training at all. Erik Bernstein who runs a crisis managementblog noted
that some people should never act as spokesperson. In fact, what surprised me was that as a
company s founder and chairman of board, it was Chip Wilson s responsibility to have a general
knowledge about the crisis and what caused the crisis and what procedures they have taken to
solve the crisis. Even though he was never prepared for those questions beforehand, answers such
as women s bodies don t fit its pants should have never came up. This crisis could have been

How Did Edgar Allan Poe s Life Impact His Writing
Edgar Allan Poe Edgar Allan Poe died in 1849 yet people still talk about his writing today. Poe s
life impacted his writing in many ways so his poems and stories are always very touching. He
had so many things happen in his life that inspired him to make his writing good and meaningful.
Love, death and alcoholism were all very meaningful in different ways to him. These things in
his life impacted his writing and also made his writing very intriguing. Edgars love for certain
people was stronger than anything. He loved his 2 mothers very much, one being his real
mother and the other being his adoptive mother. He did not have a very good connection with
men as well as he did with women because his mothers taught him everything and raised him to
be the man he was. A lot of his stories and poems were in memory of is mothers. Poe also had a
very very strong love for his wife Virginia. Virginia was very young but at the time age did not
matter. The way that Poe explains his love for her is a very unique and special way. Unfortunately
Poe s mother s and his wife Virginia passed away. Love lasts after death.... Show more content on

Almost every story and every poem of Poe s had something to do with death. The reason being is
he had dealt with so much death especially of loved ones in his life that it became a part of his
life story. He lost most of his loved ones due to tuberculosis. Both of his mothers and his wife
passed away due to this disease. Death kind of became a mystery to Poe because it happened so
often to the ones he loved. Death was always kind of dark and his stories and poems took place
in december at midnight. December is the darkest month if the year and midnight is the darkest
time of night so that time of year and day was just fir for death. Poe drank to take the pain away of

My Family Holiday
Today was going to be one of the most irritating days for my family and we didn t know it. We
thought our family holiday was going great, there hadn t been any arguments that cause my
mother to say, That s it, pack everything!, I ve had enough, we re going back home . Even if she
had said that,I would highly doubt that she would have packed the car to drive ten hours back
home. The last full day of our trip was today, so we decided to visit friends of my parents, Bruce
and Martha. Their house was around an hour away from the caravan park, so we started
preparing for our mini trip, finally about half an hour later, we were ready to leave. We climb
into our petite black car and set off driving along the little road out of the site.Driving along
happily looking out the window at all the brightly fresh green grassed fields catching a glance of
the mixture of cars pass by my window. As we near our destination, we turn off up this little road
that led us beneath a large bridge. The road had a slight twist and my stomach felt like a field of
butterflies. Around a sharp bend, Into sight I noticed a sign that reads Welcome to Portsmouth .
My father s face looked astonished as he saying aloud I m surprised we made it, without any
problems , well he spoke to soon. Around the corner, I noticed a few run down pubs and
restaurants, reaching a set of traffic lights and of course we ended up getting stop at the red light. It
felt like everyone and their Grandmother got through except

Summary Of Arm Wrestling With My Father By Brad Manning
In Arm Wrestling with my Father by Brad Manning uses: symbolism, tone, and imagery throughout
his story. What Manning s Story is about is Manning and his father s tough love bond they share.
The story shows us on how Manning s father shows his affection towards his son, and its not by
expressing them verbally or giving him affection, and attention like his motherwould. He would
only show him that he loved him through helping him in sports and arm wrestling. Throughout the
story when Manning gets older his father is at an old age where Manning can beat him. Manning
let s his father win because he felt sorry for his father and as Manning said his arms were the ones
that protected them (Manning 124). Manning knew further on the story his father... Show more

Manning described it so well I could clearly picture it in my head when Manning said I d shout,
and it would start. And I would tense up, concentrating and strainging and trying to push his wrist
down to the carpet with all my weight and strength. But Dad would always win; I always had to
lose (Manning 121). Manning would be upset but the word choice Manning uses for this section of
the story is great imagery.
Another reason Manning didn t beat his father was that he was getting to an age where he isn t
as strong as he use to be. Manning describes his father s arm at first when Manning was a strong
tree branch but since he came back from school during winter break he said his arm looks aged
(para7). Another great example Manning uses for imagery. The theme of Arm Wrestling with my
father how Manning father gradually changes his method of affection he displays towards his
son once Manning is older. In the beginning of the story Manning tells us how his father did not
show any attention on the other achievements his son made in school like orchestra or his
writing, only in sports. For example, as Manning said It was not because he wasn t proud of
Manning, it was probably because he just wanted his son to be tough and strong like him or better.
Manning s father did love Manning, but it was very difficult for him to show his son he

Public Relations Office Of Starfleet
You dropped the bath bomb into the water, watching it immediately fizz and release a relaxing
scent. The water turned purple, small flecks of glitter reflecting in the light of the bathroom.
You lit a few candles, picked up your book, and sunk to your neck in the water. Silence was a
rare treat in your field of work, and you had prepared for this day nearly a week in advance.
Nothing was going to stop you from utilizing this day in the most productive way of all; doing
absolutely nothing. The past week had been an intense ride where whatever could go wrong

said, and you grimaced. Is there a threat against earth? Jim knew what standards you held on
your vacation day, and laughed at your poor joke. Not quite. One of the Captains had a bit too
much to drink and said some rather unfavorable things about our interplanetary policy. And our
freshmen. And the interplanetary policy people won t talk about it? I asked, and they said they
didn t want to get involved quite yet. Probably cleaning up their own mess. You sighed, looking

Racism In The Great Gatsby Essay
Tom counts himself at the top of the Nordic race . He asserts that Civilization s going to pieces
[...] It s up to us who are the dominant race to watch out or these other races will have control of
things . After reading The Rise of the Colored Empires , he introduces scientific racism. He says
the white race will be will be utterly submerged. It s all scientific stuff; it s been proved . In one of
his comments, we find that Tom, Nick, and Jordan belong to the Nordic racewhen Nick first visits
the Buchanans. (Fitzgerald 11) It is noteworthy that Nick and Gatsby find few blacks in a car on
their way to New York. Tarah Demant in his thesis paper claims The humor Nick finds in this
driving scene is that the passengers in the limousine, just as clearly different and inferior, and The
three modish Negroes, two bucks and a girl in the limousine are clearly racially different, no
matter how closely they can imitate the type of white privilege that marks Gatsby in this scene
(198). Physical differences between whites and blacks are clearly evident here. The impact of
prevailing social stratificationis multi dimensional in the novel. It is noted that social stratification
has great effects on racism. We find that Tom is a racist, and his racist attitude is due to his high
social status. He attacks Gatsby and questions about his fake claim of an Oxford graduate to
break the intimacy between her wife Daisy and Gatsby. He knows that revealing the truth is the
only way to create a negative impact on Daisy s mind about Gatsby. Another interpretation can
be taken from Tom s behavior is that Tom shows his aristocratic, rude and arrogant attitude.
Indicating Gatsby as a bootlegger , Mr. Nobody , he shows hardly any sympathy and courtesy to
Gatsby. His attitude toward Gatsby in such way would be impossible if he belongs to an inferior
class. Tom is also proud of his Nordic race . His intention is to neglect the inferior people for
their skin color. He is not a man to take any change easily. He cannot think of intermarriage
between black and white (Fitzgerald 103).Even Nick shows his racist behavior, pointing to the
passengers three modish Negroes . Racism toward the blacks is found, and this reaction

COLD War and the Arms Race Essay
COLD War and the Arms Race When President Truman authorized the use of two nuclear weapons
in 1945 against the Japanese in the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end World War II, the
nature of international security was changed irreversibly. At that time, the United States had what
was said to have a monopoly of atomic bombs. Soon thereafter, the Soviet Union began working on
atomic weaponry. In 1949, it had already detonated it first atomic bomb and tensions began to heat
up between the two countries. With the information that the Soviets had tested their first bomb, the
United States began work on more powerful weapons1, and a fight for nuclear superiority had

Many new talks between the two countries would come along with many new advancements in
weaponry. President Kennedy came to office with warnings of a missile gap. The Soviets had
achieved or were achieving a significant advantage in strategic nuclear weapons. Though tensions
ran even higher, Eisenhower s strategy of massive retaliation made little sense and did not
account for the rapidly growing Soviet nuclear arsenal4. Kennedy s nuclear strategy became
known as flexible response. The idea was to acquire the military forces that could deal flexibility
with varying levels of Soviet Aggression3. The most serious confrontation between Russia and the
US was the Cuban Missile Crisis. (Link to Stephanie s page) Soviet leader Khrushchev attempted to
place intermediate range missiles in Cuba. Kennedy responded by imposing a quarantine on Cuba.
This resulted in the removal of the Soviet missiles and led to Kennedy making the decision to
dismantle U.S. missiles based in Turkey. Some analysts argue that the successful outcome was due
to the United States nuclear superiority, which proved that strategic superiority offered important
political advantages5. Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara later concluded, after Kennedy s
death, that the only way to defend our boundaries from a nuclear attack is to counterattack with
equal nuclear force.

Clockwork Orange Comparison
In Anthony Burgess s novel A Clockwork Orange, he depicts a dystopian future by uses elements
of literature that almost let reader see what is happening, but the film can take it further. Stanley
Kubrick s version of A Clockwork Orange differs from the novel by featuring visual and musical
elements that are not described in the books but are metaphoric in cinematography.
Both the novel and the film still follow the same plotline. The protagonist and narrator, Alex, is a
violent young boy who would go into the night with his friends to commit heinous crimes to anyone
they come across. And when he is not disrupting the peace, he enjoys listening to classical music,

Before Alex went to jail, each scene looked painted with different bright, warm color such as;
red, yellow, green. Kurt Nassau, who has studied the link between colors and emotions says that
those colors signify happiness in a person. Before prison, Alex is happy. But when he was in
prison, his perception of reality changes and the scenes consisted of more neutral colors like
gray and brown, which signifies depression and melancholy (Nassau). In prison, Alex s freedom
is stripped from him, leaving him depressed from boredom. The only time there is color the
prison scenes is when he reads the bible and starts to fantasizing about the violence in the bible.
In those scenes, the warm colors come back and Alex feel happy once again. After Alex is cured
by the ludovico technique , most of the scenes turn into darker, colder colors, like blue, which
symbolizes depression and sadness (Nassau). Alex lost his ability to act freely, specifically
committing crimes, and to listen to Beethoven s 9th symphony , the two things that brought him
joy. So now he is depressed and suicidal. It s only in the last scene, when Alex is cured from being
cured , that he has a colorful daydream showing that he is happy once again when thinking about
violent and disturbing actings. All the colors shown in the film are parallel to Alex s emotions; he
is content when committing crimes, but depressed when he cannot even think about doing

Thistle Sifter Case Study

Because I am a thistle sifter. This was one of many pivotal drills used in the rehabilitation of king
Georges stammer, a drill we commonly know as a tongue twister. Lionel incorporates this tactic in
hopes that it relaxes Albert s jaw muscles and strengthens his tongue. Conversely, experts Albert
attended earlier sought to strengthen the tongue with extremely unorthodox methods. One doctor
made him put 7 tiny metal balls in his mouth while he spoke, in hopes that the weight would
strengthen his mouth. Experts believe, tongue twisters refine enunciation skills and thus potentially
aide someone who stammers. Lionel also stressed the need to strengthen the diaphragm, a muscle
integral to lung support and facilitating air flow.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

comfort is where the routines differ. Singing and speaking with music were also aspects of
Lionels therapy that played a major role. It was through both of these activities that Albert gained
confidence in his speaking abilities, because he was able to hear himself talk without a stammer.
The use of the music was also the defining tool that made Albert agree to undergo Lionels
rehabilitation process. Lionel stress s that physical excises and tricks are important, but that they
will only deal with the surface of the problem. He urges Albert to be open with him and that he
answer specific questions about his past, that may help uncover mental trauma. It is a process that
at first Albert is reluctant to attempt, however as he becomes more and more comfortable divulging
painful past memories, we see simultaneous positive developments in his

I should have stopped him, I knew he was too young, his body; too weak, his brain; not smart

Everyone was happy, including Ben. He knew he would not be inheriting anything anymore but it
seemed like he didn t care, But I did.
I still remember the day, Cameron died , it was a regular July morning in the campsite, the smell
of burning wood and birds chirping had woken Cameron and I earlier than usual, just in time to
watch the sunrise. The morning sky was pink like a sea of cotton candy, with the light of the sun
coloring the clouds above with a pinkish hue. As the sun slowly ascended, the sky in the west
became a deep neon blue as the light reached further out. By the time we finished breakfast, the
pink in the sky had become a pale yellow mixed with blue. It was a peaceful morning but the peace
of it did not remain for too long instead it was replaced by regret that has still yet to leave me.
Cameron like every five years old loved exploring, the animal noises coming from the woods
intrigued him. There was a waterfall nearby, I took him there. It was not the gentle sort of
waterfall you might see in a stately home garden, it was the kind where torrents of water are
poured over rocks hard enough to crack your skull and mash your brains on the way down, then
swirl in a plunge pool below deep enough to drown you if you survived the fall. From the
bottom, it was awe inspiring, from the top it was brutal and terrifying. Cameron wanted to jump
into it but I didn t let him instead I agreed to play hide and seek. He ran into the forest in order to
hide. In

  • 2. Human s Helpful Nature Can Sometimes Do More Harm Than Good Humans prove to be extremely influential, whether it is answering a question in an interview, or recollecting every detail about a crime, their answers can be impacted by the actions of the interviewer. Human s helpful nature can sometimes do more harm than good. Often in times a witness trying to be more helpful by recollecting things they do not remember can have dire consequences, such as a conviction of the wrong person. During the experiment conducted by Elizabeth Loftus, many people were asked about details about a crime committed, each question dictated a different answer depending on two things; how the question is asked, and who asked the question (Eyewitness testimony: Psychological aspects, 2009). There are many positive uses for open ended, as well as closed ended questions, both have their place at specific moments in an interview. Open ended questions can be extremely useful to get a substantial amount of information, but they are not always the best ways to ask specific questions. Closed ended questions can allow an interviewer to control the interview more easily. Interviewers can control an interview in many ways, most of these controls are positive aspects to an interview; one thing an interviewer should not control however, is the answers being given. This is referred to as leading, leading questions can control the witness to say exactly what the interviewer is hoping for them to say, which can conclude in a wrongful conviction. Asking a question that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Marijuana in the New World Essay Marijuana in the New World The first definite record of the marijuana plant in the New World dates from 1545 AD, when the Spaniards introduced it into Chile. It has been suggested, however, that African slaves familiar with marijuana as an intoxicant and medicine brought the seeds with them to Brazil even earlier in the sixteenth century. There is no record that the Pilgrims brought marijuana with them to Plymouth but the Jamestown settlers did bring the plant to Virginia in 1611, and cultivated it for its fiber. Marijuana was introduced into New England in 1629. From then until after the Civil War, the marijuana plant... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... British mercantile policy hampered American hemp culture for a time during and after the colonial period by offering heavy bounties on hemp exported from Ireland; but the American plantings continued despite this subsidized competition. At various times in the nineteenth century large hemp plantations flourished in Mississippi, Georgia, California, South Carolina, Nebraska, and other states, as well as on Staten Island, New York. The center of nineteenth century production, however, was in Kentucky, where hemp was introduced in 1775. One Kentuckian, James L. Allen, wrote in 1900: The Anglo Saxon farmers had scarce conquered foothold in the Western wilderness before they became sowers of hemp. The roads of Kentucky . . . were early made necessary by the hauling of hemp. For the sake of it slaves were perpetually being trained, hired, bartered; lands perpetually rented and sold; fortunes made and lost.... With the Civil War began the decline, lasting still. The invention of the cotton gin and of other cotton and wool machinery, and competition from cheap imported hemp, were major factors in this decline ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Skeletal System Case Skeletal System Case Study Molly Hennard Wright State University Skeletal System Case Study In this case study, an 18 year old boy was brought to the emergency room after a football game injury. He had an open fracture on his wrist and after an x ray was taken, it showed that his wrist was broken into three parts and a small part of that was showing through the skin. The patient was admitted to the hospital so that he could undergo surgery to repair the fracture. Osteomyelitis is caused by parasites, bacteria, viruses and fungi getting into the bone and bone marrow. Since the patient had an open fracture, this allowed for bacteria and viruses to get past the skin and enter into the bone. This greatly increases his risk for osteomyelitis. Also, having to have surgery to fix the fracture also increases the risk. Infection could be caused in the bone as well as septic joints during joint replacement surgery can all lead to osteomyelitis. • 5. Bullying At The State Of Nevada We all might still recall back to our school days and the bully on the playground making recess intolerable for some; or perhaps in the lunch room bully who helped themselves to our desserts. That bully might have ended up in the principal s office, but likely not much more became of them. Bullies have always been around, but now they have changed their preferred tactics. With the growth of technology making our ordinary lives simpler, criminals and bullies have also used technology to aid them in their transgressions. Many bullies have advanced to become cyber bullies and their chosen scare tactic makes use of computers, cellular phones, or some other type of communications device. What then is the actual definition of the act of bullying? Bullying in the State of Nevada is defined as carrying out actions that may be highly offensive to a reasonable person and intended to cause the student to suffer harm or serious emotional distress (Cyberbully tactics are focus of state law, 2010). Cyber bullying elsewhere is bullying by means of electronic communication (Cyberbully tactics are focus of state law, 2010). In Texas, bullying means engaging in written or verbal expression or physical conduct that will physically harm another student or student s property, or is persistent enough to create an intimidating or threatening educational environment for a student (Grobe, 2012). These definitions are typical of those used in other states. Advances in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Food Safety Practices By Consumers, New Zealand Summary This study identifies that costs of food safety are high in the developed world, and consumer awareness on food safety practices is lacking especially in younger consumers. The explosion of ever increasing fast food chains and poor food eating practices by Consumers, New Zealanders increasingly are getting affected by Obesity and diseases such as Diabetes. According to the World Health Organisation, New Zealand has an Obesity rate of 27% (who.int, 2008) and is ranked the 12th most overweight country in the world (nzherald.co.nz, 2013). 225,000 kiwis also have either Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes (diabetes.org.nz, 2012). It can be argued that because of the increases in rates of Diabetes and Obesity, consumers are scared of the impacts to their health and wellbeing as they grow older and are increasingly becoming more health conscious in the choices they make for food consumption. In the US, 64% of Consumers now agree that it s important to eat healthy foods compared to 57% in 2010 (newhope360.com, 2013). As consumers become more health conscious, food producers and sellers look to take advantage of this to promote and sell their food in new and different ways that might be perceived as healthier options. One such method that is changing consumer food preference is the emergence of local Weekend Food Markets as a hip and trendy way to sell food to consumers versus traditional retail avenues such as supermarkets and grocery stores. Consumers arguably favour these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. From the Mind to the Body, Self Comes to Mind From the Mind to the Body, Self Comes to Mind The mind emerged from the body through the originations of conscious thoughts in an introspective manner that is accessible to the self. A connection between mind and body eventually developed a proprietor within the thinking mind. The neuropsychologist Antonio Damasio believes that a mindwith subjectivity is a conscious mind, otherwise one would not know of his existence, who he is, and what he thinks (Damasio, 2010). At some point in time, the mind developed feelings towards the experience of the connected me (Damasio, 2010). The human mind somehow collaborated with the body and began to differentiate between their inner world with subjective experiences, and the objective... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, Damasio breaks down the self as knower into three steps that together compose the knower. These divisions are knowns as the protoself, composed of primordial feeling, the core self, which is action driven, and the autobiographical self that incorporates social and spiritual dimensions (Damasio, 2010). These aspects of the self are indispensable to construct the conscious mind, and according to Damasio, one needs to account for these aspects before trying to comprehend the neural basis of the conscious mind. Damasio and Bownds agree on the fact that human minds are shaped and biased by their culture, and the society that they lived in (Bownds, and Damasio). Bownds explains that the human knowledge is based on a preconceived idealization of what they already know. Consequently, a human mind is considered circular because they are formed by the same environment that they try to describe (Bownds, 1999). Consider the mechanic system that a zipper comprises for an instance. The zipper slider joins together two sides of a sweater in order to close the sweater and make it work. In the same way, the mind works along with the body. One can attribute the function of the zipper slider to the brain and the sides to the body, but specifically the side in which the zipper, or the brain, is attached, can represent the peripheral nervous system. In a way, the zipper slider, like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Female Characters, By John Wyndham Female characters are influential in John Wyndham s The Chrysalids. In the novel, three women are of paramount importance in comparison to all others in shaping David s views and opinions: Sophie, the Sealand woman, and Aunt Harriet. In the society of Waknuk, individuals exhibit prejudice repeatedly throughout the novel through their own blinkered treatment of deviations. David Strorm s, a twelve year old boy whose parents brought him up in such lifestyle, interactions with those three women throughout the novel sways him to have second thoughts about it. Their dealings with David each have a particular impact on his life. Sophie allows for doubt to enter David s life for the first time; the Sealand woman expands his views and prompts him to consider other beliefs different from those of his society; and Aunt Harriet makes him more conscious of his society s despicable activities and more attentive to it. In John Wyndham s The Chrysalids, Sophie, the Sealand woman, and Aunt Harriet are instrumental in influencing David s outlook on society. Sophie allows for doubt to pierce its way into David s life for the first time. At the start of the novel, when David first meets Sophie, he gets an insight into a deviant s life. She has proven to be the first blow to efficiently impact David s thoughts and make him question the authenticity of his society s belief system. It is hind sight that enables me to fix that as the day when my first small doubts started to germinate. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The American Black Bear ( Ursus Americanus ) Habitat can be considered as the optimal location where any one species can live, reproduce, and grow in an ecological time scale (Kellner et al. 1992). As the climatic conditions of the world are changing at a rapid pace, it is important to understand how species will adapt with the weather and learn to adjust their way of living. Understanding how a species survives in different climatic regions is very important for the future management of the species population and habitat. With this knowledge an individual could more efficiently manage their habitat to make it more suitable for the species to live under the given climatic conditions. The American black bear (Ursus americanus) is native to North America, more specifically Canada and northern and southeastern United States. Ursus americanus once ranged from Mexico and all throughout United States and into Canada, but as human population increased and climatic conditions have changed, Ursus americanus moved to locations with lower populations and cooler climates, which are northern North America as well as southeastern United States. Ursus americanus are found with the highest populations in Canada and northwestern United states where there are lower human populations, larger forests, and cooler climates. Landscape will vary throughout North America as will the choice of habitat for Ursus americanus. • 10. Sociology as Essay Examine the ways in which sociologists can contribute to our understanding of how social identity is shaped by gender. (24 marks) An identity is who we are, this is made up of how we see ourselves and how others see us. Social identity is based on one s membership to particular groups in society. This essay will examine the way in which sociologist contribute to our understanding by providing theories and ideas of how social identity is shaped by gender. Ann Oakley, a feminist sociologist suggested that there are four ways in which gender socialization takes place during primary socialization. These are manipulation, canalization, verbal appellations, and different activities. Manipulation is when parents encourage behaviour that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Parents direct their child interest into certain behaviour according to their gender, for example when boys are younger they are encouraged to play football and be aggressive and they are discouraged from crying. And girls are encouraged to play with dolls and to look after their appearance. Feminists believe this is how an individual s social identity is shaped by gender. However post modernists sociologists criticize the feminist theory. Post modernists believe that due to social and economic changes, female role and identities are changing. The changes in the job market has led to a decline in traditional labour jobs that employed men and new jobs in the service sector are increasing. These jobs in the service sector are aimed at employing women. As women are going out to work their values are changing so female identities are changing. Similarly today s idea of masculinity is different, there are other types of masculinity today, and it is viewed differently. Bob Connell, a Post modernist sociologist believed that men have become more in touch with their feminine side and there are now more househusbands and New men. A househusband is a man that is more involved at home. So the man would take care of the children, and does the chores as well. Also the fact that celebrities such as David Beckham, a male who is more concerned with his image, has led to men believing, this is how they should act and behave as well, it gives men something to look ... He was born October 18th 1741 and died September 5th, 1803 at the age of 61. He was considered a beginners writer and to have a morbid look on human relations which is what he choose to write about in Dangerous Liaisons. Although he was a military official with little literary training his book Les Liaisons Dangereusescame to be literally acclaimed in the 18th century. Laclos was born into a Bourgeois family in 1760 he was sent to Ecole royale d artillerie de La Fere . Dangerous Liaisons is a thrilling and enthralling account of the sordid, scandalous aspiring and often secretive lives of the noble class in the 18th century right before the French Revolution. Dangerous liaisons brings to life a tale of betrayal and revenge through aristocratic women and a rather promiscuous noble young man. As these aristocratic women are eager to climb the social ladder and find loves that are befitting them and their social class they are unaware they are apart of an elaborate scheme for a mere women s amusement and experimentation. The book is written as though they are letters between everyone involved from main characters Madame de Tourvel, Vicomte de Valmont, Cecile, Madame de Volanges, Marquise De Merteuil, and Madame de Rosemunde. There are many themes coming into play that are most prominent during the 18th century in daily noble lives. First being that of war a minor fight in Corsica, is in the background of Dangerous Liaisons. War is also discussed in saying that battle is the metaphor Merteuil and Valmont use to describe their sexual exploits. Either you have a rival or you don t. Another reason is because since 2015 the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) changed their guidelines for children screen watching. The means of each of the independent variables reflect the arbitrary evaluations of each of these parameters. All the variables have relatively small standard errors compare to their mean. Also, the medians and the means mostly lie fairly close to each other, in another word, the means well indicate the actual distribution of the data sets. One of the possible concerns is that per capita disposable income has both high standard deviationand high variance. This result can be reasonable because of the extreme scatterings of incomes due to demographics, social classes, and other kinds of factors. Furthermore, the inflation rate jumped to 4.1% in 2007 and dropped to 1.7% in 2012, which can also be a factor that causes the change in per capita dollar value, eventually being reflected in the result. • 35. Essay on Standard Machines Pricing I. Who should take the blame for getting Standard Machines Corp into the crisis it faces vis Г vis closing on a major sale with an established account? The blame for Standard Machine Corp can be directed in one of three ways: Industry: One could argue that innovation in the machine tool equipment industry has been stagnant and resulting caused customers to view machines as commodities and compete on price. Another thought is that the industry allowed a low cost player to enter and therefore put the premium priced equipment manufactures in a position of having to rationalize their price. Unfortunately, competition on price erodes industry margins and profits. Standard Machine Corp Management: The fact that a major account has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although we do not believe that it is wise for Standard Machine Corp to lower their prices, essentially commoditizing their products, it is important for them to manage their customer relationships on an individual basis. By this we mean that Standard should find ways to justify their price premium. This may be done by offering packages uniquely customized to retain their long term clients. Specifically, for long term customers like Occidental, Standard must justify their $22,000 premium over their competitors within the market. One way to address this issue would be through rebates. Standard could offer customized rebate packages to its premium customers, like Occidental. Although they are, in effect, lowering their prices for Occidental, they are not sending a negative signal to the market. An outright price decrease could create a price war, where their competitors continue to drive down their own prices, further commoditizing Standard s line of products. A rebate would offer an incentive for Occidental to purchase, because the company knows that they will be rewarded on the back end. Another way for Standard to remedy this pricing situation is to offer additional services along with its milling machine in order to further differentiate themselves from their competitors. Standard s package could include an unlimited warrantee for a specified amount of time greater than that of its competitor, and an increase in on site ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The incident that occurred between Sam, Henry and Brody, where Sam yells angrily at henry and Brody yelling for them to leave or he would punch them, leaves them to be advised on Assault under Trespass to the person. For an assault to take place the defendant must commit an act which deliberately and intentionally causes the claimant to reasonably apprehend direct and immediate application or force .To identify whether the Defendants words or actions are a reasonable expectation of immediate application or force, the act or words must give the claimant good reason to fear them. Which Sam s shouting and threat is an act that would cause the reasonable person to fear immediate application or force. Stephens v Myers (1830) .It is reasonable to believe that Sam was going to commit an act against Henry and Brody. It doesn t have to be proven that the claimant believed violence was going to occur, only that in the circumstance it was a reasonable belief . For it to be considered as reasonable, the threat must be able to be carried out there and then (immediately) which was established in the case of Thomas v National Union of Mineworkers (1985) . • 40. Romanticism In Eugene Delacroix s Liberty Leading The People Eugene Delacroix s Liberty Leading the People is an oil painting that stands at 8′ 6″ x 10′ 8″, commemorating the July Revolution of France in 1830. The painting, when first displayed at the 1831 Salon, an annual exhibition of French Art, was met with strong reactions of disapproval due to his Romanticism influences and was later banned from public viewing. The 19th century experienced a transition from the Enlightenment Period of logic and reason, to the Romanticism artistic movement, of which Eugene Delacroix was a leading figure. Romanticism, as explained by Kathryn Calley Galitz, emphasized subjectivity, imagination, and emotion, much of which is evident in Liberty Leading the People. Delacroix, instead of painting an actual scene of warfare, chose to balance out the chaotic nature of battle by incorporating both realism and idealism into his painting. Zelazko explains that Delacroix did not participate in the uprising because of his dependence on royal commissions, but instead chose to take part by creating a work of art that overwhelmingly encompasses all aspects of that historic day. Posthumously, the painting was moved to the Louvre in Paris, France where the response was more favorable, and today critics regard his work as a masterpiece with a unique take on this historical event. The historical Macbeth had become king in the year 1040 when he killed the previous king, Duncan, in battle. To put this in a historical context, this is hardly the Middle Ages; it s still the Dark Ages, as historians have termed the various stages of European history. It is 26 years before the Norman invasion of England, which is generally considered to be the beginning of the medieval period in Britain. In 1040 Macbeth became king and ruled for 17 years until he was overthrown and killed by Duncan s son, who became King Malcolm III. Malcolm is famous primarily because he married an English princess named Margaret who was later made a saint. According to the Scottish historian Archibald Duncan, little is known about Macbeth and his lovely wife Grunnich, except that they were pious and endowed a religious house at St. Andrew s (which is probably the caddy shack on the fourth green of that famous golf course joke). The couple went on a religious pilgrimage to Rome where, the chroniclers said, they sowed money like seed. (Many of us when we go on vacation do the same thing.) That s all we know for certain about the real Macbeth. Now the fact that Macbeth killed the previous king was not a big deal. Of the eight Scottish kings who ruled during this time, seven had died unnatural deaths, including several who burned to death until suspicious circumstances. It was highly unusual for a Scottish ... The Reason That Chip Wilson Plunged Lululemon Into Crisis Analysis The reason that Chip Wilson plunged Lululemon into crisis again is because of three major issues: lack of media training as a spokesperson, lack of comprehensive crisis management plan in the company, and failure of internal communication. First of all, spokesperson media training is part of crisis preparation. In this case, lacking media training includes training for a TV interview and training for filming a video apology. Prior to Chip Wilson s interview with Bloomberg TV, managers from the PR department should have conducted a comprehensive media training to Wilson. After reading The Rise of the Colored Empires , he introduces scientific racism. He says the white race will be will be utterly submerged. It s all scientific stuff; it s been proved . In one of his comments, we find that Tom, Nick, and Jordan belong to the Nordic racewhen Nick first visits the Buchanans. (Fitzgerald 11) It is noteworthy that Nick and Gatsby find few blacks in a car on their way to New York. Tarah Demant in his thesis paper claims The humor Nick finds in this driving scene is that the passengers in the limousine, just as clearly different and inferior, and The three modish Negroes, two bucks and a girl in the limousine are clearly racially different, no matter how closely they can imitate the type of white privilege that marks Gatsby in this scene (198). Physical differences between whites and blacks are clearly evident here. The impact of prevailing social stratificationis multi dimensional in the novel. It is noted that social stratification has great effects on racism. We find that Tom is a racist, and his racist attitude is due to his high social status. He attacks Gatsby and questions about his fake claim of an Oxford graduate to break the intimacy between her wife Daisy and Gatsby. He knows that revealing the truth is the only way to create a negative impact on Daisy s mind about Gatsby. Another interpretation can be taken from Tom s behavior is that Tom shows his aristocratic, rude and arrogant attitude. Indicating Gatsby as a bootlegger , Mr. Nobody , he shows hardly any sympathy and courtesy to Gatsby. His attitude toward Gatsby in such way would be impossible if he belongs to an inferior class. Tom is also proud of his Nordic race . His intention is to neglect the inferior people for their skin color. He is not a man to take any change easily. • 55. My Life I should have stopped him, I knew he was too young, his body; too weak, his brain; not smart enough but I still let him go. His mother, Mrs. Robert s had made the mistake to trust me with her only child, Cameron. I regret what happened to him, he was just an innocent five years old, full of energy and curiosity that I used against him. I wish I could take it all back but I can t because that poor child is already dead. Only because I let the evilinside me run free and chained the conscience to the back of my brain. That one decision will haunt me for the rest of my life. The same summer Cameron died, I was supposed to marry his uncle, Ben. It was not the gentle sort of waterfall you might see in a stately home garden, it was the kind where torrents of water are poured over rocks hard enough to crack your skull and mash your brains on the way down, then swirl in a plunge pool below deep enough to drown you if you survived the fall. From the bottom, it was awe inspiring, from the top it was brutal and terrifying. Cameron wanted to jump into it but I didn t let him instead I agreed to play hide and seek. He ran into the forest in order to hide. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
