- Social link disclosure attacks aim to obtain knowledge of links in an online social network, compromising user privacy. Knowing the social graph enables powerful data mining that may not be desirable to users.
- Lookahead, or the number of friends-of-friends visible to a user, is provided by social network providers but also influences how resistant the network is to attacks aimed at mapping the graph.

Conformity Essays
1. Conformity Essays
Writing an essay on the topic of "Conformity" can present both challenges and opportunities for
exploration. On one hand, the subject is rich with theoretical perspectives, psychological insights,
and sociological dimensions, providing ample material for analysis. On the other hand, delving
into the complexities of human behavior, societal norms, and the balance between individuality
and conformity requires a nuanced approach.
The difficulty arises in striking a balance between providing a comprehensive overview of the
concept and delving into specific examples or case studies. Ensuring that the essay is not too
broad or too narrow requires careful consideration. Additionally, grappling with the ethical
implications of conformity and its impact on diverse aspects of life adds another layer of
complexity to the writing process.
Furthermore, navigating through the extensive literature on conformity—from classic studies
to contemporary research—requires a discerning eye to select relevant and impactful sources.
It's essential to synthesize information effectively, weaving together different perspectives to
create a cohesive and well-supported argument.
Crafting a compelling thesis statement that captures the essence of the essay and guides the
reader through the exploration of conformity is another challenge. Striking the right tone,
maintaining clarity, and engaging the audience throughout the essay are crucial components that
demand attention and revision.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Conformity" involves navigating a multifaceted topic,
managing diverse perspectives, and synthesizing complex information. It requires a thoughtful
approach to present a cohesive argument and address the broader implications of conformity in
society. Despite the challenges, the process of exploring and analyzing this topic can be
intellectually rewarding, offering valuable insights into human behavior and societal dynamics.

2. Corrupt Politics, President s Escape And More For New...
Corrupt politics, president s escape and more to New Ukraine.
Introduction
Ukraine made the news a lot in the past year, but for anything Ukraine discovered
or made. In the past year the country has been in crisis due to the events that started
off as a riot for Ukraine becoming a part of EU and leading to annexation of Crimea
and war in east part of the country. Ukraine has been ruled by corrupt politicians and
oligarchs and has been strongly influenced by Russia. These two countries always
had close ties, because of their past as Soviets countries, they share a common
language and are currently in pre war status right now (McMahon, 2014). This past
year has been rough with crisis and has affected areas like: social, cultural and
economic. Ukrainian government has failed its purpose to protect and make
improvements in the best interest of the country, and now thousands of people lost
their homes and thousands have died, with hundreds being killed directly at the
request of former President Victor Yanukovych, who now has escaped and currently
staying in Russia with a political support from their side (Babich, 2014). The question
now is; with everything that s happening inside the country, should Russia be allowed
to invade and destroy cities and squares, while the peace agreement and sanctions are
attempting to stop this chaos? No, but the aid from countries like Germany and
United States of America is not significant and influential enough to stop Russia from
military
3. The Conflict Between France And Germany During The
Franco War
Prussian Franco War
According to the video Prussian Franco War it shows the conflict between France
and Germany in the Franco War (1870 1871). This war began after the alliance
between German states caused by Prussian overthrowing France. The Prussia
chancellor Otto Von Bismarck sent a telegram to William I, who was a Prussian king.
It stated that France insulted Prussia. However, it was a dishonest version of Bismarck
to unify Germany nations. France declared the war on Prussia and this was a tactic of
Bismarck to unify German states with Prussia and the new German Empire started.
The unification of Germany demonstrated the nationalism between these countries.
The negative reaction of France led to the ruins of Paris, the high human cost and a
big revolution between these nations. France lost the control over the entire Europe.
Prussia became the leading country in the German imperial and it dominated the
entire Europe. According to the encyclopedia Britannica, nationalism is a movement
in history when people have established territorial authorities....The strong belief that
the interests of a particular nation state are of primary importance. Also, it is the
belief that a people who share a common language, history, and culture should
constitute an independent nation, free of foreign domination . Germany s unification
with Prussia demonstrated nationalism. Nationalism influenced by Napoleon III
through Europe was turning against France. Nationalism was also influenced
4. Violence In The Virgin Suicides In The Virgin Suicides
From this analysis and definition of witchcraft and its relation to the player, gossip,
one can see how violence may erupt from such cases of witch accusations. Gossip, as
an active player in witch hunts and trials can [...] outrun the intentions of [its]
creators, producing more violence than is anticipated (Stewart and Strathern 193).
Such unanticipated growth within gossip is the result of, as Hurston writes in Their
eyes were watchingGod, words walking without masters (2). One can relate words
walking without masters as violence walking without masters. In the way that words,
gossip, and rumor can snowball, to a certain degree, violence can as well. After
misfortunes, most often deaths, within a community, people attribute misfortune to
witches and kill them in order to set matters right (Stewart and Strathern 193).
Therefore, we see that violence is retribution in witch hunts and is given agency
through gossip. In The Virgin Suicides, the community, in effect, kills the Lisbon
sisters through violent gossip in retribution for Cecilia s death and the unrest it
caused the community. The Lisbon sister s state is reflected through a tree in their
front yard that, for a time [...] stood blighted, trying to raise its stunted arms, a
creature clubbed mute (Eugenides 173). The vicious words of the community
clubbed the sisters, robbing them of their personality. Eventually, the sisters become
so ostracized and hated for their inability to be anything but sexual

6. The Theme Of Freedom In Sorry For Your Loss By Bridget
Keehan
Life can change in an instant; one moment you are a free bird flying high and in the
next you live in a cage surrounded by darkness. Some people say that freedom is one
of the biggest lib erties of man, but what happens when all that is taken away. The
importance of freedom and how quickly things can change are the central themes in
the short storySorry for your Loss written by Bridget Keehan in 2008, where the
author paints a picture of a life without free dom.
A third person narrator tells the story, the point of view being the chaplainEvie. The
fact that Evie is the one, who tells the story, has a significant effect, because it is
through her eyes that we experience everything. Therefore her thoughts and feelings

In life you generally don t get a lot of second chances and some mistakes can be
irreversi ble. What would happen if you like Victor in the story lost you freedom
completely? And how do handle working in an environment, where the closest thing
to freedom a window that shows the parking lot? It is not easy, and sometimes not
even praying is enough to make it all better. So even though you might wish
everyone were as innocent as they seemed, you need to face the reality that life is
not a wish granting factory, and people have to suffer the conse quences for their

7. Case Study Of Ducati
Answer for No. 3:
In my opinion, as the main market of the company, Ducati is in Italy, hence it might
be adventurous if they are focusing its business strategy on electronic commerce. This
is because the rate of internet penetration in Italy is the lowest in Western Europe,
where only 9% of the 57 million population who are using the internet in June 1999.
This might become a risk to the company as if Ducati is fully focusing on electronic
commerce, there is a high probability that their target customer might fall into the
range of 91% of 57 million population who are not using the internet, hence the sales
of the company might drop as the existing or potential customer is less likely to use
to internet and visit to the Ducati website to view their product. In addition, the
information, any benefit or marketing promotion which announce through the internet
will be hard to attract and receive by the potential customer. Moreover, as there will
be a huge cost incur in the investment of the new online venture by the company ...

they might interest on, changing the color or the model of motorcycles which sell on
the websites and make the purchase. The viewer may compare the model of
motorcycles from one to another and place into their cart or wish list until they were
happy with the result. Ducati may provide this type of interaction on their website so
that the customer will be satisfied with the
8. Short Story Zebra
After reading the short story Zebra by Chaim Potok I have identified the theme as
you can never give up when things get difficult. My evidence to support this theme
is Then, a year ago, racing down Franklin Avenue, he had given himself that push
and had begun to turn into an eagle, when a huge rushing shadow appeared in his
line of vision and crashed into him and plunged him into a darkness from which he
emerged very, very slowly. . . This is the conflict of the story Zebrathe main character
of the story loves to run and he was no longer able to do that after the accident the
one thingthat he loved to do he could no longer do anymore and this has had an
effect on Zebra. After the accident Zebra could no longer run and is faced with a
rough time because he identified as a runner which he couldn t do. I know that this
is effecting him because in the story it states When it was Zebra s turn he told a story
about a bird that one day crashed against a closed windowpane and broke a wing.
A boy tried to heal the wing but couldn t. The bird died, and the boy buried it under
a tree on his lawn...You always tell such sad stories, Andrea said. Zebra is feeling
hopeless and it shows through his writing. In his class he was writing about a bird
that had crashed into a windowpane and had a broken wing that couldn t be fixed,
the bird ended up dying in the end and even though this story is about a bird Zebra is
taking his emotions and putting them into writing explaining his

Advertisements
Explain why semiotics is a useful method for analysing advertisements.
Straight away when thinking of signs one would automatically think road signs,
star signs or even pub signs however signs can also be drawings, paintings and
photographs as well as words, sounds and body language. The study of signs and
symbols is also known as semiotics. Ferdinand de Saussure was a Swiss linguist and
semiotic whose ideas laid a foundation for many significant developments; He is
one of the founding fathers of semiotics which he called semiology . Semiology
also looks into the use of signs and their interpretation. Semiotics are frequently
used in advertising to signify an advertisers message through the use of signs and
symbols for example it plays a significant role on catching the targets audiences eye
by the placement of pictures, texts and logos. The use of semiotics is very
important for a successful advert. Saussure offered a two part model of a sign, he
defined a sign being composed of two parts for example the signifier and the
signified. According to Saussure the signifier was the representation, the word or
the image, where as the signified was the meaning, the concept in which is

11. Blindness In Cathedral
The act of looking corresponds to physical vision, but in Raymond Carver s
Cathedral , the act of seeing involves a much deeper level of engagement. The
narrator is fully capable of looking. He looks at his house and wife, and he looks at
Robert. The narrator is not blind and therefore assumes that he is superior to Robert.
Robert s blindness, the narrator believes, makes him unable to have any kind of
normal life. The narrator is certain that the ability to see is everything and puts no
effort into seeing anything beyond the surface. With news of a guest coming, the
narrator is immediately put off. Furthermore, knowing the man is blind instantly puts
an image in his head of what kind of person he is. The narrator disregards his wife s
past... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He comes to see that his own tunnel vision has limited and isolated his view of the
world around. The two men hold hands while drawing the Cathedral. If not for this
life changing experience, this narrator would simply have continued on his close
minded lifestyle never learning about or accepting other people as they are. After
finishing the drawing of the cathedral Robert asks, What s a cathedral without
people? (Carver 428). Characterized as a social place where people meet, the
cathedral becomes a symbol of the husband s ability to overcome his loneliness and
his inability to communicate. The last few sentences of the story paint a picture of
someone coming to the realization that being blind can be more than just a physical
limitation. A person can be blinded to the feelings of others and the problems that can
affect our everyday life, yet through interaction and tolerance an individual can find
both themselves and an awareness for people around
12. Maximal Oxygen Consumption And The Oxygen
Maximal oxygen consumption or VO2 max refers to the single maximum oxygen
consumption that an individual can utilize during graded intensity exercise. VO2
max can be assessed through properly administered submaximal oxygen consumption
test which can include exercise test modes of treadmill, cycle ergometer or step test.
In an individual, VO2 maxcan be determined by the cardiovascular system s ability to
deliver oxygenated bloodto working muscles and then the muscle s ability to extract
that oxygen from the blood and generate energy for work. Influencing factors can
include genetics, decline of VO2 max with aging, and finally aerobic training can
positively influence an individual s VO2 max and overall aerobic fitness.
Individuals with high VO2 maxes often have greater overall aerobic fitness, which
includes high efficiency, or running economy, better glycogen storage and is often
an indicator of success when completing aerobic tasks of over 20 minutes. On the
contrary, a low VO2 max can predict poor overall aerobic fitness which can include
cardiovascular disease and problems with transporting oxygen to working muscles.
(3) In these laboratory exercise test, submaximal intensity exercises were used to
determine an individual s predicted VO2 max which allowed the assessment of their
overall aerobic fitness and the ability to compare the correlations between tests.
Before performing any submaximal exercise test, the individual should be in the

13. Analysis Of Letters From An American Farmer
What does it mean to be an American? In today s day and age, the general
perception of an American is to be free, free to practice any religion, free to speak
your mind, free in general. However, America has only been able to be perceived
as a promised land due to the obstacles and barriers that have been challenged by
early Americans. From having to accept others religious beliefs to the abolishment
of slavery. A good example is J. Hector St. John de Crevecoeur s Letters from an
American Farmer (1782). Letters from an American Farmer is a collection of twelve
letters written from the perspective of a fictional character. These letters do a

The act of being forced to practice the same religion as your neighbor may sound
bizarre. However, the Puritan age was a time when everyone had to practice the
Puritan religion, and whoever did otherwise was treated as a threat and punished for
their wrongdoings. A famous victim of this type of punishment was Anne
Hutchinson. Hutchinson was convicted of teaching the practice of a different
religion. This in return resulted in her banishment from the Massachusetts Bay
colony. On the contrary, Crevecoeur has a different view on religion he states If
they are peaceable subjects, and are industrious, what is it to their neighbours how
and in what manner they think fit to address their prayers to the Supreme Being?
(641), with this being said Crevecoeur is stating how there should be no issues with
befriending others even though the same religious beliefs are not shared amongst
themselves (Americans). America has come a long way from its New England roots
and has evolved into a land filled with diversity and camaraderie.
In addition, Crevecoeur was a strong advocate for the abolishment of slavery.
Humanity itself has suffered from the discrimination of people for as long as time
can remember. Slaves were purchased and used for excruciating manual labor with
little to no self freedom. Crevecoeur explains a story of a negro man hanging in a car
left to die. The birds have already plucked his eyes out, and he was begging for
water. Crevecoeur says Had I had a ball in my
14. The Laws Regarding Corporal Punishment
Straus (2001) defined corporal punishment as an act carried out with the intention of
causing a child to experience physical pain, but not injury, for purposes of correction
or control (as cited in Straus Paschall, 2009, p.459). Two of the most prominent and
widespread kinds of corporal punishment include slapping and spanking (Straus
Paschall, 2009, p. 459 460). This paper will analyze the laws regarding corporal
punishment in many countries, the developmental theories such as the behavioral
cognitive, and sociocultural in the context of corporal punishment as well as the
harmful effects of corporal punishment on the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial
development of children in early childhoodwhich ranges from two to six years of age.
In many countries such as China, corporal punishment represents an acceptable and
necessary action to discipline children. However, in other nations such as Austria,
Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, Finland, Israel, Italy, New Zealand, Norway,
and Sweden, corporal punishment is against the law (Berger, 2012, p. 310). Currently,
corporal punishment against children are legal in many U.S. states. Corporal
punishment on children is more common in southern states and families of lower
socioeconomic statuscompared to states in the New England region and families of
higher socioeconomic status (Berger, 2012, p. 310). Corporal punishment has
destructive effects on the physical aspects of early childhood development. As

From the chart above we can see that Jones Apparel Group has surpassed Liz
Claiborne in profitability four out of the last five years. Standing out among the
profitability figures is Jones year ended 1998, in which the company eclipsed Liz s
profitability by over 2.5 percent. Jones profitability slipped substantially from year
ended 1998 to 1999, from 9.19 percent to 5.98 percent. During Liz Claiborne s
same relative period, the company s profitability fell only one tenth of a percent,
from 6.68 percent to 6.58 percent. However, Jones Apparel Group battled back in
year ended 2000 posting 7.29 percent profitability, as compared to Liz s 5.95
percent figure, a differential of more than one and one third of a percent. While
these differences may seem quite arbitrary, Jones total revenues year ended 2000
were $ 4.14 billion compared to Liz Claiborne s $ 3.10 billion. Net incomes for
Jones and Liz were $ 301.9 million and $ 184.6 respectively. With dollar amounts this
large, every hundredth of a percent counts.

Apparel Group has the comparative advantage in profitability. But that just wouldn t

17. Creation Science Is Not Science Summary
In Creation Science is not Science, Michael Ruse argues that Creation science is not
science and in Science at the Bar Causes for Concern, Larry Laudan opposes this
view by arguing that Creation Science is science, but that it is false. In this paper, I
argue that Michael Ruse had the better argument and that Creation Scienceis not
science. First, I explain Ruse s argument for why creation science does not meet the
criteria for science. Second, I consider and explain Larry Laudan s opposing view
that creation science is false science. I then argue why I believe Ruse has the better
argument.
In his argument, Michael Ruse defended the science communities position that
creation science was not a science. He claims that it is a pseudo science. His main
argument against creationism was based on the lack of support from the established
view of real science. Ruse laid out what he believed the criteria for real science should
look like. He then, expanded on several parts of scientific activity which included the
role of prediction, explanation, testability, confirmation, falsifiability, tentativeness,
and integrity. Ruse presents these as the absolute necessary empirical and social
fundamentals for determining whether observable theories are scientific.
Ruse states that for a theory to be considered scientific, it must have five
characteristic features. These five features include: natural law must guide the theory,
it must make explanatory reference to natural law, it must be
18. Single Men In Pride And Prejudice Essay
It is not a coincidence that the very first sentence in Jane Austen s Pride and
Prejudice forecasts one of the most predominant themes in the novel and in
Elizabethan literature. Only a male can inherit his family s property and fortune, and
so it behooves a woman, especially one used to a high standard of living, to pursue
marriagewith a wealthy man. It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single
man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife (Austen 1). The
sentence provides an overview for the book as well, which concerns itself with the
pursuit of single men in possession of a good fortune . This motif of Elizabethan
marriages continues through the rest of the first passage when Mrs. Bennet
announces the arrival of Mr. Bingly at Netherfield. She enlightens her daughters
about Mr. Bingly saying, He is a single man of large fortunes four or five thousand a
year (Austen 2). Austen skillfully... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Darcy, as well as other characters, possess this fault. Darcy experiences a rude
awakening when he makes his first marriage proposal to Elizabeth. He is
supremely confident that Elizabeth will quickly accept. In this passage, Darcy
starts his transformation into becoming an improved man as a result of Elizabeth
who drains all of his pride by saying: You are mistaken, Mr. Darcy, if you suppose
that the mode of your declaration affected me in any other way, than as it spared me
the concern which I might have felt in refusing you, had you behaved in a more
gentlemanlike manner (Austen 186). By attacking his pride, Elizabeth critiques
Darcy on his conduct rather than his highborn standing. This leads Darcy into a
mixture of distress and self contemplation. He begins to reevaluate himself and starts
his progress towards a new improved model of his former self, which leads to him
winning Elizabeth s heart in Volume

Medicine for Melancholy , a film by Barry Jenkins, uses the story of a young African
American couple learning about each other to explore how Jenkins himself feels
about San Francisco s reputation for beauty and inclusion. The film starts with the
main characters, Micah and Joanne, waking up the morning after a drunken one night
stand and realizing that they do not know much about each other. Micah manages to
beguile a reluctant Joanne into spending the day together in San Francisco. Jenkins
uses picturesque and diverse communities as backdrops for the couple to celebrate
the superficial beauty and inclusiveness of San Francisco. As Micah and Joanne learn
more about each other, they discover that they have different perspectives about the
same city. Micah defines himself and his experiences in the city based on being
African American, and, although Joanne is conscious of her race, she does not view
race as what defines her or her place in San Francisco. At first the Jenkins focuses on
Micah s perspective, highlighting his passion for proselytizing about how black
peopleare struggling to find their identity in the city. With help from Joanne s more
centrist views and Jenkins artful cinematography, the film shifts focus away from
Micah s race centric perspective of inclusion to reveal that San Francisco, the city of
otherness, is actually forcing lower income people of all races to leave by
redevelopment making housing unaffordable. Through the depiction of a young

performing various biochemical tests E. coli seemed to fit my microbe the best with
only having two misguided biochemical tests that had not fit the data. The tests that
were performed included the MRVP test, catalase test, oxidase test, nitrate test, citrate

These tests helped me discover my microbe along with a few other tests. The first
biochemical test I performed was the MRVP test. This test is known as the Methyl

This test is used to see if the microbe can hydrolyzes urea to ammonia and carbon

would present a positive result. The SIM test tested negative for sulfur reduction
presenting no sign of the color black, positive for indole production presenting the
color red, and positive for motility. Sulfur reduction is a test used to differentiate
enteric bacteria. The indole production test differentiates Enterobacteriaceae. For
testing a wide variety of organisms the motility test is used. The TSI test stands for
triple sugar iron agar, my results had turned out positive presenting a yellow slant
and yellow butt (acid/acid). The microbe was a lactose fermenter. The test is used
to see the fermentation of lactose, glucose, and sucrose. The last test I had done
was the starch hydrolysis. I had gotten a positive result when the result should have
been negative. A halo may or may not be seen with the presents of iodine. When a
halo is present it is positive, starch is present. When a halo is not present it means
there is an absence of starch. When the media is positive it means that extracellular
enzymes are capable of diffusing into the medium. E. coli is supposed to be starch

The concept of family has changed in many perspectives throughout the years.
Nuclear families started back in the 1950s also known as ideal families . Today
family comes in many varieties whether it s nuclear, accordion, or extended
families and even same sex marriage. One thing that is undoubtedly true is that
family will always be the one that you have an unbreakable bond with. American
families have evolved in many ways leading us away from what was known as
nuclear families. The image of ideal families has changed and is now looked at
differently compared to years ago. But does technology and devices how to do
with the separation of family? In a short story in Rereading America called Quality
Time Redefined , author Alex Williams executes many interviews to try and see
how media has impacted the lives of family. According to one of his observations
there was one family in particular that stood out. Ms. Vavra a cosmetic industry

recalled, The family was in the same room but not together (94). She was advocating
about how her and her family was all sitting together but all of them were in their
own little worlds with their devices. Technology has become very popular and
advanced throughout the years. This may be the cause for why families

The data show that roughly 48,000 square kilometers of China s oceanic territory is
seriously polluted, an increase of 18,300 square kilometers from last year, according
to a report by the State Oceanic Administration of China (SOA). Of the 18 ecological
zones monitored by the SOA, 14 were found to have unhealthy levels of pollution.
(Moxley, 2011) Generally, as the eastern costal area of China occupies great amount
of its economic production, pollutants mostly come from these urban and industrial
wastes which contain different toxic chemical substances that are pernicious to the
marine flora and fauna. In addition, the excess agricultural fertilizer with nitrogen and
phosphorus could destroy marine organisms immune system. And it may causes the
disease among species and further lowers reproduction rate. Eventually, with the loss
of more species, the ocean ecosystem will become more unbalanced in years. Another
important cause of declining marine biodiversity is the invasive species. For instance,
mytilopsis sallei which originally lives in tropical South America water regions is
now found in the southeast China coast. (Li jun, Bin, n.d.) According to the research,
its outlook is similar to tiny mussel, and it has a strong ability to adapt in harsh

regions which could impact the local marine agriculture. Furthermore, it

The truly compelling questions of Eleanor s life revolve around how she found the
pure strength of will to live the life that she did as a woman. She undoubtedly had
an enormous amount of power, certainly more than any woman before her, and
arguably more than any woman since. Eleanor had the courage to be exactly the
person that she was, regardless of gender, however the question that remains is how
she managed to do so. What was it about her life and her early upbringing that
compelled her to become the woman she was? What influences in Eleanor s life

From the Ancient Egyptian pyramids, to the Ancient Roman Colosseum, architecture
is seen in different forms all over the world. As a mechanical engineering student and
an art admirer, I am extremely interested in the rich history of architecture, as well as
modern architecture. Architecture was, is, and will continue to be a very important
aspect of people s lives until the end of time. Today, architecture is more than the
skyscrapers in Dubai. It s more than the prominent church of La Sagrada Familia in
Barcelona, Spain. It s more than just a house. Architecture is really much larger than
that. Architect Daniel Libeskinddeclares, Architecture is the biggest unwritten
document of history . Architecture has significant purpose and meaning. Architecture
is capable of healingphysically, economically, environmentally, and emotionally.
Hospitals are designed with adequate ventilation systems, creating a better
environment for the wellbeing of the patients, and decreasing the likelihood of the
patients contracting disease from other patients. One excellent example of the
physically healing effects of architecture is architect Michael Murphy s Rwandan
hospital. There was one hospital in Butaro, Rwanda in which the architecture was
causing people to fall more physically ill than they had been previously. For example,
the hallways were too small and had a poor ventilation systems, causing patients to
contract lung diseases such as tuberculosis just by going into the hospital

adequate exercise to burn the excess calories and the calories I was consuming
were equal to the calories I was burning. To correct this through I will be increasing
my exercise by running and lifting weights and ultimately once I start boxing for a
good period of time. I just recently started so Im looking forward to the
improvements I can make of that. Additionally I will need to watch high calorie
foods and decrease my calorie intake substantially.
Understanding that my body needs a certain number of calories to function at its
prime, I realize that when I do not eat enough, I can hurt my metabolism, lean tissue
and weight management efforts. So I made sure I
29. Emergency Response Planning For Corporate And
Municipal...
Emergencies are inevitable. Whether they result from natural disasters, hazardous
spills or accidents, or even purposeful acts of terrorism towns, cities, counties,
states, and nations need to be prepared ahead of time with an effective course of
action. The book, Emergency Response Planning for Corporate and Municipal
Managers, written by Paul Erickson, challenges agencies and readers to assess the
pieces that must be addressed to be effective in responding appropriately to
emergencies. In this course, a few of the aspects of management that I learned
about were the different types of emergencies, the necessary components of an
emergency plan, how to set up a incident command center, and the need for and
type of protective gear. Considering that I have been interning for the past two
years at a large church that sees over 15,000 people attend each weekend, it is
imperative to have a working knowledge of the things that can go wrong and an
understanding of how the church can step in to assist the community in a disaster.
Having an awareness of potential community threats is a must for the church to
continue to be the light of the world and to be available to people in crisis. Chapter
1: Scope of Emergency Response Introduction: Even before 9/11, the scope of who
was in charge when there was an emergency was confusing. The confusion was
multifaceted: who was in charge, who would pay for the costs, who would do the
labor and who was ultimately responsible for

Strange Fruit
Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday is a song that s known for it s haunting imagery of the
Jim Crow era in the south, as well as it s riveting performance by Holiday. It s been
famously covered by Nina Simone and others like Diana Ross, prior to that the
song we know and love was first a poem originally published in 1937. Penned by
school teacher Abel Meeropol, it was shipped around for years (performed by
himself, his wife, and vocalist Laura Duncan in Madison Square Garden, for
instance) before finally landing in the hands of Billie Holiday. Holiday preceded to
record it backed by piano performed by Sonny White, eventually the song finally
was recorded under and by the Commodore label, Holiday received a one session
release from her contract just so that the song could be brought to life in 1939. It

was the first to shoulder an explicit political message into the arena of entertainment.

32. Glory, By Edward Zwick
Glory directed by Edward Zwick is about the Civil War journey of the first colored
regiment under the control of Colonel Robert Gould Shaw played by Matthew
Broderick. The movie takes place in 1862, after the Battle Of Antietam. Colonel Shaw
is offered a position as commander of the first African American regiment including
Private Trip (Denzel Washington) and Sergeant Major John Rawlins (Morgan
Freeman) by the governor of Massachusetts. When Col. Shaw decides to command
the regiment, he was unsure of what the 54th Massachusetts Regiment could
accomplish. Throughout the course of the movie, he was not confident in the newly
formed regiment. But as the movie progresses, he begins to change his perspective on

Shaw completely changes his attitude towards the 54th Massachusetts regiment.
He does not loosen the reigns, instead he takes Sgt. Mulcahy s suggestion and
trains them harshly. The next training session was mainly focused on aiming and
shooting guns quickly. Robert decides to watch them practice shooting guns, but
when they take their time to load their guns, he gets upset. He chooses Private
Jupiter Sharts to specifically watch. Pvt. Sharts states that he hunted squirrels so
his aim is up to par. Col. Shaw states that, a good man can fire three aimed shots in
a minute so when, Pvt. Sharts cannot deliver quick load and unload of his rifle
within the minute, Col. Shaw yells at him and shoots a gun in the air to show how
fast he should be able to shoot. After getting flustered by the pressure of Col. Shaw,
Pvt. Sharts drops the gun. Col. Shaw was also harsh on Private Trip. When Pvt.
Trip disappears and is re discovered, he is sentenced to a flogging punishment.
Major Cabot Forbes, a close friend of Col. Shaw, tries to convince Robert to change
his mind about the flogging, because it would make them no better than their past
slaveowners. Colonel Robert Shaw ignores Maj. Forbes comment because he
realizes he needs to be tough on the regiment in order to prepare them for war. He
tells Sergeant Mulcahy to proceed with the flogging. But after the punishment, he
soon realizes that Private Trip disappeared to go find shoes due to his previous worn

33. Team Based Structure Of Team
Team based structures have become immensely popular in today s work world. This
is due to an endeavor by companies to restructure and increase efficiency in order to
combat an accretion in competition. Teams have their advantages and their
drawbacks, just like any other company strategy. Team based structures are quite
engrossing, due to their capability to be utilized by companies in almost any industry.
This universal applicability has enabled teams to be structured and utilized in
multitudinous ways. Subsequently, companies are still searching and experimenting
to find the quintessential structureof work teams. During this ongoing conquest for

When compared to individual efforts, teams provide a more effective way to utilize
employee talents. Furthermore, team based structures are an effective means for
management to democratize companies and increase employee motivation. To
illustrate, individuals on teams report higher levels of job satisfaction than other
individuals. Also, a work team generates positive synergy through coordinated effort.
The team is constructed to be symbiotic in its member interaction. Positive synergy
allows organizations to increase performance. In summary, the primary advantages of
using team based structures within an organization are increased employee
motivation and a collaboration of diverse knowledge and skills.
With the vast amount of benefits which team based structures bring to the workplace,
there are also disadvantages which come as well. Primarily, the issue which frequents
work teams the most is interpersonal disputes. Incidentally, teams in the workplace
typically do not manage conflicts well. Oftentimes disputes arise, cooperation stops,
and power struggles ensue which leads to lower level performance. These disputes
also lead to a decrease in a team s efficiency with regards to time management. In
particular, the storming stage of team formation is the most time wasting. During this
stage, team members have not yet learned how to properly employ trust and
teamwork. Consequently, this results in increased
34. The Role Of A School Counselor
The role of a school counselor has taken on numerous descriptions in the last decade.
Although the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) and Texas Education
Code (TEC) provide the basic roles and responsibilities of school counselors, every
school district and even campus has modified that description to fit the needs of the
campus. Every administrator, teacher, student, and counselor may provide a different
explanation of the role that counselors play in education. Regardless of the role
description or explanations provided by counselors themselves, the primary focus of
a school counseloris to fully develop each student s academic, career, personal, and
social abilities (Tex. Educ. Code В§ 33.006).
The role of a school counselor can be both rewarding and challenging. One of the
most challenging aspects of being a school counselor is managing multiple duties (K.
Hancock, personal communication, August 19, 2014). K. Hancock is also the district
testing coordinator, which according to the ASCA, is noted as being an inappropriate
counseling duty. The role of a school counselor, in regards to testing, is to interpret
the results of these tests and to analyze them in conjunction with multiple measures of
student achievement (ASCA, 2005). During testing season, K. Hancock has to utilize
her time planning and preparing for state assessments rather than focusing on primary
counseling roles. During this time, she must extend her work hours to ensure she is
able to

Blaise Pascal was born on June 19, 1623, in Clermont Ferrand, France to Etienne
and Antoinette Pascal. He was the only son having two sisters, Jacqueline and
Gilberte. Blaise Pascal was a person of many hats as he had different traits and
talents that he acquired. Not only was he an important mathematician, but also a
philosopher, physicist, inventor, scientist, and theological writer. Pascal made
numerous contributions to a wide variety of studies that are still appreciated today
including a powerful influence on the development of modern economics, social
science, and Pascal s Theorem. Blaise Pascal is best known for his correspondence
of 1654 with Fermat, which originated the theory of probability. He was also the
author of Traite du triangle arithmetique avec quelques autres petits traites sur
lameme matiere written in 1654. He included in his treatise separate tracts
describing the use of the Pascal s triangle in the theory of figurate numbers, the
theory of combinations, the solution of the classical problem of points in games of
chance, and the derivation of the powers of binomials. In 1631, Etienne moved his
family to Paris minus his wife Antoinette who had passed away five years prior.
Etienne would make the decision to educate his children on his own keeping his
focus particularly on Blaise who was a child prodigy, his strong subjects being
mathematics and science. At only the age of 11, Blaise produced a short proof on the
sound of vibrating bodies. Though
36. The Ethics of Internet Filtering in China Essay
The Ethics of Internet Filtering in China
The internet boom that began in the mid 1990s was popular because of the enormous
possibility of endless free flowing information. It was built upon the engineering
principle of end to end neutrality, an engineering rule of thumb calling for smarts at
edge of the network rather than in the middle 1 said Jonathan Zittrain, an associate
professor at Harvard. However, web filtering by governments such as China has put
an end to the idea of complete freedom on the Internet. For those who are familiar
with the authoritarian one party political system in China, one would hardly be
surprised by the Chinese government s move to censor the internet.

Saudi Arabia also block web sites as well. However, unlike the Saudi government
which were upfront and honest with its people by explicitly stating on users browser

to petition for certain web site to be unblocked), the Chinese government simply in
secret renders the blocked site as not found so one cannot know for sure if a site were
intentionally blocked or were simply out of order.
It is estimated that China employs around 30,000 people to monitor and block web
sites it deems inappropriate. Additionally, Amnesty Internationals have revealed that
China currently has 33 people called prisoners of conscience who have been
detained for using the Internet to circulate or download information the government
deemed inappropriate. Of the more than 1 billion people, there are estimated to be a
total of 45 to 50 million internet users in China. One can only imagine how quickly
the prison count and possible future execution count will increase in the near future
as the number of people going on line continues to grow rapidly and as the
government escalates in severity its crackdown tactics on the people.5

were protesting the treatment of blacks in Birmingham, Alabama. The White court
system made an ordered that stated that Martin Luther King could not hold protests in
Birmingham. Martin Luther King along with the Rev. Ralph Abernathy decided to

and the decision is described as follows: First, rezoning action is quasi judicial in
nature, subject to strict scrutiny on certiorari review. Second, a landowner who
demonstrates that proposed use of the property is consistent with comprehensive plan
is not presumptively entitled to such use. Third, a landowner seeking to rezone a
property has burden of proving that proposal is consistent with the comprehensive
plan, and consequently burden shifts to the zoning board to demonstrate legitimate
public purpose of maintaining existing zoning classification. Finally, the board is not

8.Significance Board of County Commissioners of Brevard V. Snyder set a
precedent since the Court concluded the comprehensive plan, provides for future
land use through gradual and ordered growth, and it is not a literal guide. Thus,
Local governments have the discretion to decide that certain land uses should be
denied, even if they comply with comprehensive plan guidelines. Also, the Supreme
Court authorizes zoning boards to act in a legislative and quasi judicial mode. This
decision is also controversial since the U.S. and State of Florida Constitutions have
the separation of powers doctrine, which splits all powers into the executive, the
legislative, and the judicial branch, each one of these having their own functions and
responsibilities. 9.Personal Interpretation and substance The Supreme Court is right
when agrees with the lower court in regards to the quasi judicial nature of the
rezoning action. The zoning board has different roles when is involved in the zoning
board and the comprehensive plan process. Some of them include enacting zoning
ordinances and law

how temperature effects the rate of reaction when we use a Magnesium Ribbon

variables that effect the rate of reaction, surface area, concentration, temperature
and catalysts. Here is some information on each variable with diagrams. How does
surface area effect rate of reaction? In a substance the rate of reaction will be quicker
if it has a large surface area. However, if it has a small surface area the rate of
reaction is much slower. Rate of Reaction is much faster if the surface area is larger

under the beaker. 7) When the temperature reaches 25В°C, on the thermometer (It
shouldn t take long as it is around room temperature, anyway), we will take the test
tube out of the water and place one of the pieces of Magnesium Ribbon in the
Hydrochloric Acid. We will start the stopwatch (a stopwatch gives us very accurate
readings when recording time) as soon as the Magnesium Ribbon hits the
Hydrochloric Acid. 8) When the Magnesium Ribbon has completely disappeared,
we shall stop the stopwatch and record the time it took for the Magnesium Ribbon
to disappear. 9) This process will be repeated for 25В°C, twice. Then we will do
the same experiment for the other temperatures, doing each temperature three
times. The plan/method above is a very good way of carrying out the experiment.
This is because the rate of reaction is effected by temperature. Using the Bunsen
burner makes this plan a good way of carrying out this experiment. As the
Hydrochloric acid will be heated using the blue flame, it will heat up faster so the
results for each temperature can be obtained quickly. Also using a stopwatch makes
the plan a very good way of carrying out the experiment because it is very precise
when recording how long it takes for something to happen. List of equipment Here is

Technology of Square
In San Francisco California 2009, Twitter co founder Jack Dorsey and Jim
McKelvey founded a startup company called Square. The mainly purpose for the
company is to make the whole process of transaction become much more easier and
faster for both sellers and buyers. Buyers no longer need to worry about the situation
that they just have credit card but seller only can accept cash. For sellers, Square
provide cohesive service for them to run their entire business. This company has both
software and hardware payment product that allows vendors to accept credit card
which is a much more convenient way for customer to pay in a transaction.
Magstripe reader(Swipe)
The name of Square can refer to Square s card reader that are white square in shape
or it can refers to the whole Square payment system. For hardware products, it has
three different devices based on different ways for customers to handle their credit
cards, they can either swipe or plug the card in Square. So for its original product,
magstripe reader, buyers are able to use their cards to swipe through square which
is a small magnetic reader that plugs into the headphone jack of an iPhone. Once a
credit card or a debit card is swiped through the reader, it reads the data and converts
it into an audio signal. The microphone picks up the audio, sends it through the
processors and then is routed to Square s software application on the iPhone. From
there the encrypted data is transmitted using

OTHER SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENT OR CONTRIBUTION IN ECONOMICS
FIELD
Other significant contribution or achievement of Milton Friedman in economy field
is in economics scholarly. He had introduced a few of rule, function and hypothesis
such as Friedman Rule, Friedman s K percent Rule, saving utility function and
permanent income hypothesis.
Friedman Rule
Friedman Rule was proposed by Milton Friedman in 1969. This rule is about
monetary policy. Money is anything that generally accepted as payment for goods
and service, but it is costless to provide. So, money is valuable for consumers and
businesses (Rognlie,2011).
Friedman rule suggests setting the nominal interest rate at zero. This is due to the
logic of opportunity cost of holding money by private sector which is nominal
interest rate should equal to the social marginal cost which is creating additional fiat
of money. This means marginal cost of producing additional fiat of money is zero.
Thus, nominal interest rate practically is zero.
Well, the real interest rate always is positive and this means we have a long term
deflation. This also implies that central bank should make the rate of deflation same
to rate of real interest. As the rate of deflation equal to the real rate of interest, people
who hold the money would not loss in value of money when inflation happened.
Friedman s K percent Rule
Friedman s k percent rule is proposed by Milton Friedman after Friedman s rule.
This rule is the way to control long term
42. The Potential for Future Crop Loss Essay
The Potential for Future Crop Loss
On the subject of potential crop loss there are several variables, which influence
drought and plant disease resulting in a loss of crops.
The first variable is that of drought. Drought is a result of shifting weather patterns,
which changes the amount of precipitation an area receives. There are three major
causes of drought, deficient and unfavorably distributed precipitation, excess heat
and warm winds (Nemanishen, 1998, p.35). Historically the grasslands of North
America have had a highly varied climate with years of drought immediately
followed by years of sufficient precipitation. For example, in the area of the Palliser
Triangle in the grasslands of Canada, wheat crop loss has been seen ... Show more

Krick identified twelve major North American weather patters which paved the way
for long term weather forecasts that are now used universally in farming and crop
production (Nemanishen, 1998, p.27). It is understood that migratory cold blows
bring moisture to the Great Plains and grasslands it is important to track these cold
blows in order to identify wet and drought seasons. Also understood is the effect
humans have on the weather patterns. At least two of the past three major droughts
have coincided with changes in the general circulation of the atmosphere over the
northern hemisphere (Borchert, 1971, p.7). It is undeniable that human use of land
has modified atmospheric moisture patterns. Also effecting moisture patterns is solar
radiation. For example, in years with high volcanic activity solar radiation was lower
because the atmosphere was not as transparent. Higher solar radiation results in less
precipitation due to excess heat resulting in drought (Nemanishen, 1998, p.36). It is
difficult to deny that drought occurs rhythmically, however, on account of the great
randomness of weather we are only able to forecast when the next drought may be
and gauge its severity depending on what is known about the previous years.
Another variable resulting in crop loss is that of plant disease, and more specifically
late blight. Late blight is caused by the plant pathogen Phytophthora infestans
43. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Illegal Police
The police serve an integral part in society as its protectors. The profession of a
policeman is considered noble as they save lives, catch criminals and are
concerned with the preservation of order. The ideal policeman does not always
correspond to reality. In addition to few good policemen who save lives and are
always ready to help, there is always a bad cop, not noticed by the superiors.
Sometimes people, obsessed with power, who did not have the opportunity to realize
their desire, fall into the ranks of policemen.
Law enforcement officials like all people have drawbacks, and the situations they
face are frequently dangerous and require a rapid response. The price of illegal police
actions is very high. It is expressed in undermining respect for law enforcement
agencies, which generates in ethnic minority communities in particular a split
between police and society.

Skylar Leaf
American Gothic Mid Term
The Use of Color in Beloved In Beloved, color is a common and important theme,
especially the color red. This is because color can symbolize a variety of different
things such as a specific emotion or a memory. Throughout Beloved Morrison uses
color to give various meanings to various objects and spaces. The emotional qualities
of the characters in Beloved are so strong that Morrison utilizes color as a way to
express their feelings. Since the book tells a story about slavery and the color of a
persons skin, color in the book is often used as a way to express conflict. In Beloved,
color is seen as the cause of all the trouble and tension in the novel. The color red is a

One of the first appearances of the color red in the novel is when Paul D enters 124
and is frozen in a pool of red and undulating light that locked him where he stood.
(Morrison 10) There is also a common theme of Paul D s red heart which has been
replaced by his old tobacco tin.
He would not pry it loose now in front of this sweet, sturdy woman, for if she got a
whiff of the contents it would shame him. And it would hurt her to know that there
was no red heart bright as Mister s comb beating in him. (Morrison 86)
The idea of the red heart represents the pain of Paul D s past and the life as well as
manhood he was denied. There are many other examples of the color red in
Beloved. For example, the red rooster which for Paul D represents the manhood in
which he was denied. Amy Denver s red velvet represents the notion of a happiness
sometime off in the future, which Sethe believes Amy will never reach. The red
choke cherry tree which was whipped into Sethe s back as well as the memory of
the blood of her dead child are a constant reminder to Sethe of the horrors and
negative memories of her life.
The use of many other colors as symbols occur throughout Beloved, even on the
first page of the novel where Morrison describes 124 as a dull gray and white and
absent of any color, which sets the tone for the space in which a large portion of the
novel takes
45. Hippocrates On The Sacred Disease Summary
The passage On the Sacred Disease, is an examination into the alleged sacred
disease of epilepsy. Although many of the anatomic and bodily propositions were
incorrect, Hippocrates concepts were closer to the diagnostics and teachings of today
than those of metaphysical reasoning. For these reasons, On the Sacred Disease
provided a structural understanding of diseases in our bodies today. Hippocratesmain
concepts are derived from the fact that this disease originates from a natural cause.
He states , Men regard its nature and cause as divine from ignorance and
wonder...this notion of divinity is kept up by their inability to comprehend it (33
35). It was this sacred disease of epilepsy that people used to connect with divine
interference. Divine stimulation was never in form of a sickness or disease. These
people were under the idea that sickness was not a sole presence, but rather an
ailment that affects the human body and is sent by divinities. Therefore people did
little to treat the affected, but rather tried to appease the so called divine powers that
sent the disease. In fact, the epileptic attacks were often referred to different gods

Introduction
The company LEGO officially began in 1932 in Denmark by the skilled hands of
the carpenter Ole Kirk Christiansen, with the help of his son Godtfred, when he was
only 12 years old. They started manufacturing small handmade wooden toys such as
cars, trucks, ducklings and piggy banks, to fortify the family during the depression
period. Their best seller where the LEGO bricks. In the studio where the toys were
made, the phrase, Only The Best is Good Enough was painted on the wall. This
vision is utilized until the present day to set the company as quality is of extreme
importance to the brand.
The company expanded rapidly. By 1992, Lego had become one of the top ten
global toy manufacturers. LEGO s creative toy line had become a success
worldwide. However, with the appearance of video games and the failed initial
attempt to enter this market, along with competition from other manufacturers, the
Danish company was placed in a difficult situation at the beginning of the century,
leading to immense monetary losses. In order to stop losses, LEGO took measures
such as: shifting part of its production to the Czech Republic and a drastic reduction
of its workforce.
Lego case for change
The case for LEGO s change in strategy was due to the decline in profit and growth.
The company was not up to date with the consumer and market trends. They did not
have prepare for future scenarios or have a contingency plan, thus they were very
unprepared for the changes in the toy

still lives on due to the legacy he left behind through the many poems, sonnets and
plays he wrote. Over the years many of his plays, especially The Tempest have been
reimagined and rewritten, allowing the play to keep up with the changing times.

The opening scene of The Tempest by Shakespeare starts with the violent storm

starts with Miranda holding a sandcastle, which dissolves in her hand due to the

Miranda s hand symbolizes that the end of Prospera s empire on the island is in
the hand of her daughter. Another major change made in this adaptation is the
ending scene, where Prospero/Prospera gives up magic in order to return to Milan. In
the original play, Prospero gives up his magic and asks the audience for their
forgiveness. However, in the movie, Prospera breaks her magic wand, a symbol of
her power and stands there in silence. This entire scene signifies Prospera s loss of

49. Judaism, Judaism And The Origin Of Judaism
Judaism Judaism originated a very long time ago, it is a part of the Bronze Age
Polytheistic Ancient Semitic religions. The Jewish calendar goes back more than
5000 years, most scholars date the beginning of the religion of the Israelites to the
known founder, Abraham, whose life is generally dated around 2000 to 1800 B.C.E.
Abraham came to believe that the universe was the works of a single creator, and
taught this to other believers. Therefore, Judaismis the first recorded religion to
advocate monotheism, meaning there is only one God. Both Christianity and Islam
found some of their roots in Judaism, about 2,000 years after Abraham, Jesus was
born into Judaism. Then after Jesus, Muhammad could trace his ancestry back to
Abraham. Judaism has three essential parts the written Torah, the recognition of Israel
, which are the descendants of Abraham, as uniquely holy people chosen by God,
and also it is a requirement that Israel lives in accordance with God s laws as it s
said in the Torah. Judaism is an ethnic religion, this means that it appeals mainly to
one group of people living in one place. Roughly two fifths of the world s 14
million Jews live in the United States and the other two fifths live in Israel. The way
Judaism is distributed is different than other ethnic religions because it is practiced
in countries other then its place of origin. Around 70 A.D. the Romans forced the
Jews to disperse all over the world, an action known as diaspora. Some other
50. Blues Music Is Still Based On Emotional Pain
In the beginning of its existence, blues music was a way of expressing ones
feelings that they were not allowed to speak about in mixed company. This was
music that expressed from the heart and soul of painful experiences that continued
on throughout the course of living in a divided, unequal society. Blues music is
still based on emotional pain, still the most wonderful way to express tears and
heartache in a catchy sounding musical format. This is the music that touches
people in a deeper manner and helps appease the pain that one has endured. Every
blues song produced is a symbol of past experiences of the writer of the song and
its performer. This allows each song to be uniquely impactful. Many blues songs
used racial inequality as a common theme because many black Americans were
suffering from this in their daily lives. The following songs were structured to help
raise support to put an end to the racial inequality that occurred. First, we talk
about James Brown s Say it Loud ( I m Black and I m Proud) . As the title suggests,
this song is about black pride. Brown was a leader in the black community, and
encouraged his people to stand up for their rights. The 60 s were a tumultuous time
for race relations in America, and this song became an anthem for the black power
movement. I feel this song is a representation of blues music because James Brown
uses this song for a more than just entertainment. He uses it as an inspiration to help
black Americans to rise out of

Code, Section 1961(4), defines an enterprise as any individual, partnership,
corporation, association, or other legal entity, and any union or group of individuals

The...
The Federal government hindered rather than helped the development of trade
union and labour rights. How far do you agree with this view of the period from
1865 to 1992? I am not deep, but I am very wide Throughout the period 1865 to
1992, the government was both a help and hindrance to the trade union movement.
Roosevelt s New Deal represented a brief turning point in the Federal government s
attitude towards labour rights, prior to which its laissez faire approach to the
economy had significantly favoured employers by granting them more power to
abuse the rights of labourers. The New Deal of 1933 was set out with the intention of
fostering better relations between the employers and the workforce, as well as

Further evidence of the government s support for the employers was illustrated by
Cleveland s use of Pinkerton agents to suppress the Pullman strike. The Pullman
strike illustrates the often hostile approach of governments in the early part of the
period, as the Federal government occasionally was active in their support for the
employers, to the detriment of the workers, whose strike for higher wages failed
as a result of the government. The New deal of 1933 is often regarded at the height
of the government s beneficial support for the rights of the worker. The overall aim
of the legislation was to decrease unemployment left in the wake of the Great
Depression, as well as improve the rights of those who had already found
employment in the unskilled labour force. The National Industry Recovery Act
marked a significant change in the attitude of the Governments that had gone before,
in that Roosevelt s economic plans tended to support the worker over the employer,
seeking to guarantee minimum wages, as well as the rights of trade unions to
exercise collective bargaining techniques. The real benefits of the act were limited in
that it was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, as it infringed on State s
rights. Despite this, the prospects for greater improvement in labour rights had never
been better, as there was now a President who not only
