Non-Captioning The Deaf
I want to begin with my opening statement about deaf issue. How come it is difficult for disabled
people especially myself to have access to closed captioning on all video sites on the interest.
Like for instance, people are required to watch a one hour first aid educational video clip before
taking an exam that allows a person to gain a state certification and the chance to be hired at the
Texas Health Center. However, the Texas Health Center would not hire a person with a hearing
disability due to failure on the exam because the video clip does not provide closed caption. People
that are affected by non captioning made a complaint to the Texas Health Center. But the problem
is, the Texas Health Center still has not responded to this issue.... Show more content on

Stalingrad Narrative
The Battle of Stalingrad
In August 1942, Hitler s massive Sixth Army marched to the city that was named after Stalin.
During the five month siege, the Russians fought to hold the city and were determined to hold it
at any cost. The book Stalingrad shows the roles of soldiers on both the Russian and German side,
as well as fighting in inhuman conditions, and some of the experiences from civilians who were
trapped in the battlefield. Antony Beevor interviewed some of the survivors and discovered new
untold stories and facts in a wide range of German and Soviet archives. Some of these included
prisoner interrogations and reports of desertions and executions. As a story of cruelty, courage, and
human suffering, Stalingrad is extraordinary and unforgettable.
Many historians argue that the Battle of Stalingrad was the turning point of WW II in Europe.
During the course of war, changes in moods, thoughts, and impressions of the Germans,
Romanians and Soviets were easily depicted. It documents the impact on the psychological
changes of the war but justifies how it changed the history of modern warfare as we know it.
Stalingrad is a story of the well known Battle of Stalingrad that took place on the Eastern Front of
Europe during World War II, which is written by world renowned historian Antony Beevor. It
covers all the parts of the siege from start to finish, it begins from the Axis invasion of the USSR,
right up to the very end of the outcomes of the various prisoners of war that were captured at
Stalingrad.
On June 22, 1941, Adolf Hitler launched his massive army eastward in order to invade the Soviet
Union. The army consisted of three groups with over three million German soldiers, 150 divisions,
and three thousand tanks. The invasion covered a front from the North Cape to the Black Sea, a
distance of two thousand miles. By this point German military was the best at everything they did,
the forces invading Russia represented the best and strongest army to fight during that time.
Barbarossa was the crucial turning point in World War II, for its failure forced Nazi Germanyto
fight a two front war against a coalition possessing immensely superior resources.
In Barbarossa s opening month, German armies bit

The Causes And Effects Of Poverty In The United States
Poverty, a common problem in the US and yet, something that people consistently overlook. We
are often unaware of the magnitude of poverty in the U.S and sometimes even disregard it.
People living in destitution are at greater risk for behavioral and mental problems. Children or
Teens who live in poverty are prone to poor academic achievements, become school dropouts , or
grow subject to abuse or neglect. People in povertyalso occasionally show signs of anxiety and
depression.
As of the 2016 census, approximately 323.1 million people reside in the United States of America.
14.5% of those Americans living in poverty, meaning that 45.3 million Americans are affected
by poverty, an immense increase from 8 million in 2008. 97.3 million people who occupy the
U.S are considered low income and 41 million people struggle with hunger in the United States.
1 in every 2 people are considered poor or receive low income. Poverty is not equal among various
demographics, for instance, in 2015, 12% of men lived in poverty in the USA, and 14.8% of
women lived in poverty and among non citizens the poverty rate is 22.8%.
60% percent of all jobs produced between 2008 and 2012 are paid minimum wage. For every 4
unemployed Americans, 1 job is available. In 2012 the black unemployment was 14.0. Income in
the US varies greatly considerably across ethnic groups and race. For instance, 3.6% of Asians and
5.8% of Hispanics or Latinos face unemployment.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of LDPC Decoders
This chapter gives an overview of the literature survey on LDPC block codes and algorithm for
LDPC decoder which gives a high throughput, better bit error rate performance with low clock
frequency. R G Gallager [1] in his paper, the overview of low density parity check codes are
presented. The parity check matrix specifies these codes, which consists of few entries of non zero
elements. The number of non zero elements in row should be greater than the number of non zero
elements in column. The typical minimum distance of these codes are directly proportional to
block length for a fixed rate. A simple but non optimum decoding scheme operating directly from
the channel is described. As block length increases, complexity of equipment and data... Show more

various factors such as encoding complexity, decoding computational complexity, decoding
hardware complexity, decoding memory requirements, decoding delay, and VLSI implementation

achieving the identical capacity approaching performance as LDPC block codes with iterative
message passing decoding. In addition, several interesting tradeoffs have been identified between

Write a 350 to 700 word response identifying the major regions of the brain and what functions of
behavior the systems of each region control.
lt;Insert Response Here gt; The brain is a crucial part of the human body. Our abilities to learn,
remember things, and feel emotions are controlled by this very vital organ. Also, the spinal cord is
a crucial part of the central nervous system. The nerves that send messages to the body are located
all throughout the spinal cord. Additionally, within the brain there are three major regions. They are
called the central core, the limbic system, and the cerebral cortex, which has four hemispheres. The
four hemispheres are the occipital lobe, the temporal lobe, the parietal lobe, and the frontal lobe.
Found within the central core region of the brain are five different regions. Each region controls
different behavioral functions within the human body. These regions are called the medulla, pons,
cerebellum, thalamus, and hypothalamus.
The medulla is responsible for many vital functions, such as; the heart rate, the regulation of
respiration, and even the blood pressure flow throughout the body. The pons region of the brain is
responsible for the sleep wake cycles. This regulates when the body needs to sleep and awakes the
body when it has had enough sleep. The region called the cerebellum controls bodily movement
and also the regulation of the balance in the body and its necessary reflexes. The

A Study On Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
1.0Abstract
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a degenerative X linked recessive disorder usually resulting in
death in the late third decade. Mutation of Dystrophin gene at Xp21 disrupts the mRNA reading
frame resulting in absent dystrophin protein in muscle cells. Currently no therapy can counteract
the disease effectively. Exon skipping with oligonucleotide administration restores the reading
frame of the mRNA to produce truncated but functional dystrophin and requires repeated
administration which can cause drug accumulation toxicity. Mesoangioblast Stem Cell therapy has
shown safety but limited efficacy due to problems of migration and engraftment in patient skeletal
muscles. The approach of Cell Mediated Exon Skipping in this project will aim to draw from the
strengths of previous strategies while reducing their individual limitations.
A lentiviral vector expressing small nuclear RNA (snRNA), which can cause permanent skipping
of exon 51, was delivered to patient fibroblasts and myoblasts. The snRNA from one corrected
nucleus was expected to spread to surrounding uncorrected nuclei. Corrected cells were tested
against a control of healthy human muscle biopsy tissue, using Immunofluorescence and PCR for
Dystrophin. The hypothesis of neighbouring nuclei correction was tested by Quantitative PCR
comparing expression of Dystrophin with a reporter gene, Green Fluorescent Protein, in cultures of
corrected and uncorrected cells at relative ratio of 1:10 and 1:50.

Reasons behind LucasВґ Suicide in Good Hair Essay
There are three reasons Lucas commits suicide, and each reason teaches an important lesson to
Alice. The first reason is that Lucas felt that he had no identity and did not fit in with his peers
and other social groups. Secondly, Lucas was not able to commit to relationships. The final reason
is that Lucas felt a lot of guilt for attempting to rape Alice. While all of these reasons negatively
affected Lucas and were the reasons behind his suicide, they also taught Alice valuable lessons
which allowed her to make improvements to her life. If it was not for the lessons in identity,
cultural perspective, and self worth, Alice would not have been able to move forward with the
changes in her life.

Growing up, she felt that she did not fit in with the black girls who berated her on the fashions of
the white magazines that she wore every day to school. It wasn t until she started to embrace the
stuck up group of girls in her school, that she could feel safe from being bullied. The notion of
her childhood from her parents that the son should be smart and go to school while she should
be satisfied because, ...it was enough, they said, that I was pretty . The death of Lucas allowed
her to see that she had more control in figuring out where she belongs as a successful writer . In
Alice s relationship with Miles, she had to submit to his will and not live a life that was fulfilling.
The pleasures and the fashion that came with Miles money, did not make her feel complete. In the
same way, Lucas death teaches Alice that she should not settle on things that did not add to her self
worth.
With Alice s identity, the role of fashion has always been a factor in her family s identity for her
as a child. This role of fashion and beauty is also present in her understanding of the culture of
black women in the tribe. As with the example of her grandmother who was abused by her
grandfather with being a beauty , Alice has learned from her family history that the
preconceptions of what beauty is should not be something to shy away from or to use the term
beauty as a way to fill the void in the way she lives her life. The lessons of identity from Lucas

Return Hunter-Gather Societies
Immediate return hunter gatherers is a way that used to describe the subsistence pattern of a
hunter gather society and how that subsistence pattern is echoed through all aspects of their
society. In these societies there is no such thing as food shelf life. Food this is gathered or
hunted is used relatively quickly without a lot of food storage. In order to maintain the food
sources it is necessary to not over consume on source over another. In order to do that it involves
a highly mobile society that follows the food. These societies are egalitarian because they are all
only trying to survive. They have no individual territorial claims but the society itself needs a

food in a place that seems to be a food dessert. Not only that but they have a very notorious food
source that gives them everything they need to survive and be healthy while at it. Since they have
such a varied diet they are free of many health issues that come with a reliance on a few food
sources. The transition to agriculture in societies is usually characterized by things such as dental

bones because of a loss of ceartin nutrients. This not present in this original affluent society because
of their diet. This was alluded to before but materialism and material culture is not emphasized by
the Ju hoansi. Since they are such a mobile society everything they have has to be carried with
them so having a lot of possessions would be counter to their entire way of life. Also since the Ju
hoansi are egalitarian if they don t have something they can borrow it making completely
pointless to have something if someone else has it. Lastly the Ju hoansi have a lot of free time.
Since their work is gathering the necessary food for the day and they have such a masterful
knowledge of the environment it does not take them a lot of time to obtain everything they need

Until 1873, when the SacrГ© Coeur was based on top of the slope, Montmartre was a little town,

Culture In African American Culture
Music is a creative art form that allows the artist to construct something that expresses a purpose. It
evolves over time and changes as the world changes, taking on many different motivations behind
the melody and lyrics. In today s society, anger, oppression, racism, and negative opinions rule the
media and popular culture. I believe that African Americans need to show their self worth and not
let white peoplehold them back. With the music in white culture often mocking African American
culture and portraying negative stereotypes, African Americans have to find ways to gain respect.
In acknowledgement of the negative portrayal of their culture, African Americans respond by
creating songs and videos that express their pride in their culture and heritage, react to white
oppression, and communicate their independence.
Kanye West s Blood on the Leaves is a powerful hip hop song that addresses modern day
struggles such as drugs, sex, and poverty. Throughout the song, the lyrics of Strange Fruits by
Billie Holiday blare from the background, stating strange fruit swinging from the poplar trees...
blood on the leaves (Blood on the Leaves) over and over. The mix of the two styles and lyrics
creates a dichotomy between the days of lynching and black oppression and the current struggles
that face African Americans. The contrast between the different types of oppression draws attention
to the current issues of modern day culture. African Americans in today s society are still

What Is The Development Of Heathcliff In Wuthering Heights
This summer we had to read the book Wuthering Heights by Emily BrontГ«. This paper will cover
the development in Heathcliff, how Catherine Earnshaw influenced other characters even though
we didn t meet her in the story, the symbolism shown in the novel, how Wuthering Heights fits into
the category of gothic fiction, as well as my own expert opinion of the story.
In the story Heathcliff is a pretty significant character. He is brought in by Mr. Earnshaw as an
orphan and is treated well by him. He then starts to fall in love with Mr. Earnshaw s daughter
Catherine that lasts the whole story. However, when Mr. Earnshaw dies, his son Hindley
becomes in charge of the house basically treats Heathcliff as a servant, he constantly looks down
at him as if he is useless. So, in the beginning of the story when Heathcliff is first introduced as a
dirty orphan who is taken in by Mr. Earnshaw who is instantly hated by Hindley because he feels
his father loves Heathcliff more than himself. This results in Hindley bullying Heathcliff as a child
and when Mr. Earnshaw dies and he becomes in charge to remember to flog him. At this point in
the story and the first transformation of Heathcliff he goes from being an orphan to being hated by
Hindley and becoming his human punching bag. The interesting thing about this is that Heathcliff
just takes it he never really fights back or tell Mr. Earnshaw he just gets up and goes about his
business not even acknowledging that it happened.

Separating Peace Character By Character A Separate Peace is a novel based around a group of
high school boys in a private college preparatory school named Devon. Most of Devon s students

each character searches for and discovers their peace. The words separate and peace represent a
variety of ideas in Knowles novel, especially for Gene, Phineas, and Leper. I believe author John

he says, ... I couldn t help envying him (Finny) that a little, which was perfectly normal. There
was no harm in envying even your best friend a little. This quote was when Finny did not get in
trouble at the Master s Tea for dressing against school code because he talked his way out of it.
This was when the rivalry between Gene and what he believed was Finny, but was really only
one sided (Finny had no thoughts pertaining to this) started. This is a very rare peace. I hardly
ever see where someone finds peace by envying and wanting major personal competition with
their close friends. The full picture of Gene s peace included being top dog, doing the best in

lifeless. Phineas had absorbed it and taken it with him, and I was rid of it

The Laramie Project, By Moses Kaufman Essay
Introduction
Moses Kaufman is the producer of the successful play The Laramie Project after a horrific
incident that occurred in Laramie. Members of the artistic group of Kaufman s, traveled to
Laramie to find out more about the horrific incidence. The main aim of the whole project was to
find the emotions, reactions, and reflections that the people of Laramie manifested concerning the
beating and subsequent death of a twenty three year old college student (Gale, 2016). A lot of
questions were raised concerning the death as people had different point of views. Some thought it
was a hate crime, others thought it was just a brutal assault or a form of robbery. Four hundred
interviews were conducted so as to come up with the reasons behind the brutal murder straight from
the town folks. The main issue was how homosexuality was defined in the crime. The Laramie
Project, questioned the rights of the LGBT+ group. For example, why were Lesbians, Gays,
Bisexuals, and Transgenders discriminated by the community and the society as a whole even
though their rights were constitutional?

In this paper, we will cover multiple things. I will cover what IV stands for, what peripheral
intravenous catheters are and what they are used for. I will even discuss sites for peripheral IV s.
I will explain what a central venous catheter is, what it is used for, and the types of catheters out
there. I will explain the procedure on how to insert one, how to change the dressing, the safety
guidelines to follow for insertion, and how to discontinue a central venous catheter. Discussion of
what a patient needs to know about having a central venous catheter is included. Equipment to

Catheters
I will begin with talking about peripheral intravenous catheters. It is a tool within the hospitals or

(Peripheral) There are two types of methods for delivery. Continuous IV is for long term use and is
for replacement or maintaining fluids and electrolytes. Intermittent IV s are administration of
medications and supplement fluids. To maintain an intermittent IV, you use saline and heparin
locks so you don t have the need for continuous infusion. (Morris) Peripheral IV catheters are
strictly for short term use. (Potter) The most common sites for peripheral lines are in the arm, hand,

Venous Catheters
Now I want to talk about vascular access devices. They can be catheters as well as ports and are
for repeated access. This includes central venous catheter, peripherally inserted central catheters and
implanted ports. (Potter) A central venous catheter is a way to provide medications, nutrition, fluid,
and blood products for a long period of time. The difference of a central venous catheter and
peripheral intravenous catheter is, the central venous is usually inserted in a vein that goes directly

Why Handwriting Is Important
Handwriting: Is It Really That Important?
Over the past few decades, handwriting may seem almost obsolete or those that are under the age

However, studies have shown that is faster to read information that is on a fiscal source such as a

It slows down reading times and causes these writing stuff to suffer. This is because when
information is written by hand although the test may seem to be slower, it gives the writer time to
reflect on his or her thoughts about the subject differently. Moreover, scientific studies have shown
that the brain receives material information differently on paper books then on screen for just
computers, smartphones and tablets.

The Sparrow
The Sparrow, by Mary Doria Russell, is a story with so many odd and ironic twists that it can
blind you from the philosophical ideas that Mary is really trying to throw out there. With a
group of people traveling on an asteroid on the quest to learn about alien life, it seems more like
an action packed science fiction novel than a book with religious and moral issues. But Mary s
incredible skills as a storyteller forces readers to truly tests their knowledge and beliefs. The

Emilio Sandoz is Jesuit priest, desperately trying to find his way towards God. Being a Jesuit, he

Emilio felt that becoming a Jesuit would create some good in his life. Before his training, his
beliefs about God weren t very concrete, but thought that after the many years of dedication, he
would eventually believe. As a middle aged man, however, it turned out that he still had doubts.
If he could not put his faith directly in God, who remained unknowable, he could place it in the

He chooses to follow these orders and blame the deliberate inhumanity of the killings on his duty

execution. What prevails their moral objection is the pressure exerted by their peers (Donovan and

two men are disillusioned by the orders to execute their good natured and thoroughly harmless

conflict between loyalty to his group and loyalty to his own developing sense of right and wrong.
As the moment of execution nears, the older narrator further indicates his changing values by

Jazz, By Louis Armstrong
Jazz midterm
1. Louis Armstrong is credited in the book titled Jazz as the single most important figure in the
development of jazz. He is known as the only major figure in Western musical history to have a
profound influence as a singer and an instrumentalist. His defining qualities as a performer were the
emotion, beauty, and technical mastery he brought to each performance, and he knew how to
please an audience. Performing jazz was a personal and powerful experience to him, and it was
communicated effectively to his audience. Duke Ellington is quoted as calling him a truly good
and original man, and his contributions to jazz music reflect that statement.
Prior to Armstrong s involvement, jazz was considered an urban folk music that was closely
related to ragtime and military bands. Jazz was music played by an ensemble for social functions,
such as dances or funerals. Armstrong provided five major areas of innovation that progressed this
music, changing how it was perceived drastically, from solely entertainment, to widely successful
art music with commercial success.
Armstrong s first major influence was the establishment of a blue scale and creating what is now
jazz s harmonic foundation. Over this, he was free to improvise, another major contribution of his.
The solos he performed demonstrated that improvised music could have weight and substance like
written music, and set the groundwork for many to come. His solos also helped establish jazz as a
music that

Global Market Forces Of Islamic Banking Essay
Abstract
It is undeniable fact that Islamic banking system has been flourishing for last few decades and
now has become the focus of global market forces. Pioneers of Islamic banking proclaim that
foundational principles of Islamic banking is allied with Shari ah guidance and their accounting
practices, policies and financial reporting mechanism is based on Sharai ah values. Consequently,
Islamic institutions have the responsibility to follow Islamic rulings in all their practices. The core
purpose of this study is to confirm that either current practices are align with Islamic ethical values
or just based on shari ah terminologies. However, author find that current practice of Modarbah are
not just contrary to its theoretical foundation of Islamic Banking but also to basic shari ah guidance
to some extent. It has been also identified that whenever an issue arises in Islamic banks they try
to make it shari ah compliant instead of resolving particular issue they are busy in just
manipulating or islamizing conventional banking products by using Shari ah terminologies to
capture the attention of Muslims who are thirsty for transparent ideal Islamic system. This
behavior of Islamic banks has made the practices of Islamic banks more controversial. Proper
implication of current study can make great contribution in the literature of Islamic banking as it
will help Islamic banks to review their practices in order to fulfill the basic ethical principles of
Islam.

The Use of Sensory Imagery in The Rime of the Ancient...
In The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Samuel Coleridge writes of a sailor bringing a tale to life as
he speaks to a wedding guest. An ancient Mariner tells of his brutal journey through the Pacific
Ocean to the South Pole. Coleridge suffers from loneliness, because of his lifelong need for love
and livelihood; similarly, during the Mariner s tale, his loneliness shows when he becomes alone at
sea, because of the loss of his crew. Having a disastrous dependence to opium and laudanum,
Coleridge, in partnership with Wordsworth, writes this complicated, difficult to understand, yet
appealing poem, which becomes the first poem in the 1798 edition of Lyrical Ballads. The Mariner s
frame of mind flip flops throughout the literary ballad, a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Originally aiming to land somewhere on the equator, the Mariner s ship lands in the South Pole,
because of a strong breeze from a storm blast; the Mariner states in his tale that the wind is
tyrannous and strong. Though suffering a dreadful drought, the Mariner receives the blessing of
the cool, wet rain as it pours down. As the Mariner takes in the rain, he begins to think of his crew,
who are all dead.
The drop of the shipmates, the cracking of ice, and the roaring of the wind all appeal to the sense of
hearing, while the Mariner rants his tale. As the ancient Mariner s crew a;; die, he fails to hear a
groan as they drop one by one; however, the sailor hears the thump of the bodies as, separately,
they collide with the deck of the ship. The ice cracks, growls, roars, and howls as the crew travel
through it; Coleridge writes that the ice is like noises in a swound. And soon I hear a roaring
wind, states the Mariner during his tale; Coleridge also writes that the upper air burst into life,
which causes the crew to hear a strong breeze. Using the sense of feeling, Coleridge writes about
the drop of the shipmates, the cracking of the ice, and the roaring of the wind.
Using the senses of seeing, feeling, and hearing in The Rise of the Ancient Mariner, Samuel
Coleridge demonstrates the use of many sensory details. The appearance of the Ancient Mariner,

How Did Rome Influence The World
Although Rome was an ancient civilization that started circa 753 BC, there was a lot that the
world had to take away from it. Rome s heaviest influence on the world was politics and language.
It also influenced the family values and the patriarchy for others to also adopt and continue. Rome

this day. The heaviest influence on United States politics were the Romans. When the Founding

distinct in its function and implantation. There are numerous benefits to incorporating these seven
critical factors into lessons such as engagement will induce focus and gain the student s attention,
repetition will enable the students to preview, review, and revise the information, input quantity
limits the amount of information resulting in a deeper understanding, coherence builds off the
student s personal experiences and prior knowledge, timing provides for activity shifts and best

It may be cheaper to purchase an older truck than a newer car, but in fuel and maintenance, the
older truck will cost more. The pros and cons of this decision are all personal. The lower upfront
costs may be more beneficial to one person than to another. A personal decision that I am
struggling with right now is with my credit rating. I have two credit cards that have a high
balance. These are both in my ex wife s possession. They are both delinquent on payments. I have
to decide whether to just take out a high interest loan to pay these off and renew my credit rating,
or to let her financial decisions affect my credit rating. The third principle of individual decision
making is rational people think at the margin (Mankiw, 2007). This states that the benefit must
exceed the cost. A personal experience with this would be that I have a truck that gets very low
fuel mileage. I needed a car with better fuel economy, but have bad credit. I weighed the pros
and cons of buying a car with a high interest loan, and felt that the benefit was worth the cost.
While some would say there is nothing good to come from this, those who make these choices
must feel there is. Mankiw (2007) points to the difference in value between water and diamonds.
A marginal increase in a person s water supply will rarely come at a significant cost to the person.

The Importance Of Temperature Control In The Human Body
Temperature control is the body s natural way of warming and cooling its self, allowing it to stay at
one particular temperature (37oC or 98oF) Receptors in the skin detect changes in the external
temperature. They pass this information to the processing centre in the brain Hypothalamus.
Hypothalamus is a processing centre in the brain that controls body temperature and is in charge of
sending out signals to other conductors. It does this by triggering curtain mechanism such as goose
bumps, sweet gland, shivering and automatic responses i.e taking off or putting on clothing when
hot and cold. These automatic mechanism helps the body maintain and control its preferred
temperature, this helps keep the organs, enzymes and cells working at a good speed keeping you
healthy and stable.
Temperature regulation is a vital function in our body that without it our body won t be able to
function and we will die. The temperature regulation of the human body has many ways of cooling
and heating. The hormones from the hypothalamus govern the physiologic functions such as thirst,
hunger, sleep, mood and temperature regulation and a lot more. If one function breaks down they
all will suffer causing massive health issues and even death. Thermoregulatory is a process that
allows your body to maintain its core internal temperature. All thermoregulation mechanisms are
designed to return your body to homeostasis (the state of equilibrium). When the external
temperature is to hot the body

This reason could eventually lead to women either being stressed because they don t have enough
time to fulfill their needs at work and home, and also could eventually lead to a decision against
having children altogether. Slaughter also includes examples of some very successful women that
have struggled to raise a family due to the fact that they are so limited with time, while most
successful men, if not all, are still able to balance the time of have a family and a high end job.
It s easy to understand how this can be a very difficult problem for most women to get around.
Even if they find a very successful job, it s much more challenging for them to be a good mom
while also doing their overall best in their profession. I thought Slaughter shared a very
interesting quote halfway through her article to help sum up her thoughts from Mary Matalin,

When reading a traditional book, it is up to the reader to imagine the faces and landscapes that
are described within. A well written story will describe the images clearly so that you can easily
picture the details. In Art Spiegelman s The Complete Maus, the use of the animals in place of the
humans offers a rather comical view in its simplistic relation to the subject and at the same time
develops a cryptic mood within the story. His drawings of living conditions in Auschwitz;
expressions on the faces of people enduring torture, starvation, and despair; his experience with the

Art shows the obsessive compulsive aspects of Vladek with intensity. As you listen to Vladek s
story, you begin to understand his driving need to keep everything. Living in an infested prison
with little food and drink, he had to learn to survive. With small tokens from his life before
Auschwitz, Art began to make allies and trade for food and clothing. Teaching English to a
guard and acquiring some basic necessities for survival, as a tinsmith he found people to trade
for food and gave gifts to his Kapo to gain favor and better treatment, he even fixed the boots of
his wife s Kapo and afterwards his wife was no longer treated so poorly. Vladek had to salvage

The Views Of Rupert Brooke And Wilfred Owen On War
The views of Rupert Brooke and Wilfred Owen on war
Both The Soldier by Rupert Brooke and Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen are written
during World War 1 in England. Brooke has a patriotic view and idealizes and worships war,
whereas, Owens message in The Soldier is about the gore and horrific reality of war. Both
authors use their own knowledge and personal experiences to show readers how soldiers handle
war and the consequences war brings to soldiers. Brookes poem is a pre war poem and uses
imagery as quiet and calm in the poem whereas Owen shows a real image of war through suffering,
exhaustion, and violent death.
For example, Owens explains why dying for one s country isn t as honorable as it seems,
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie; Dulce et Decorum est
Pro patria mori. (Owen 25 28)
Owens is explaining if people could see the reality and horror of war, they would not tell young
children that it. Brooks uses The Soldier to show that fighting and even dying for your country in
war is honorable and even glorious whereas Owen argues that dying for your country isn t as

Falstaff And King Henry As Father Figures In Henry IV Part 1
In Henry IV Part 1, although Falstaff and King Henry act as father figures in Hal s life and are
both intelligent in their own right, the differences in their tone and diction showcase the major
differences in their personalities and relationship with pride. Although King Henry and Falstaff
are extremely different characters, both do act as father figures in Hal s life with Falstaff as a
surrogate father and King Henry as Hal s birth father. With King Henry, this fatherly relationship
emerges as one of blindly scolding and ordering around his son, an example being when the King
criticizes Hal s friends, rude society (3.2.14). The relationship with Hal and his surrogate father,
Falstaff, though is much more relaxed with Falstaff teasing Hal, by touching on Hal s slight
insecurity of taking care of his princely duties, calling Hal true prince(2.4.106). Although both
these relationships are very different in how relaxed they are, there is a similarity of King Henry
and Falstaff acting as fatherly figures in Hal s life. Both characters are also extremely intelligent
in their own right. Falstaff often references mythical beings and makes intelligent metaphors, one
of these being when Falstaff says, thou knowest I am as valiant as Hercules (2.4.106). Along with
this reference to Hercules, being very intelligent for a man as lower class as Falstaff, it also shows
that Falstaff is prideful in a joking manner. Falstaff knows that he is not as valiant as Hercules,

The Lucky Ones Summary
In the book The Lucky One s, Mai Ngai tells the reader the story of how the Tapes made their
mark as Chinese turned Chinese American. The Tape family endures culture and identity change
and success but also challenges on their quest. The Tapes were fixed on the idea of living the
American Dream and getting rid of their Chinese culture to essentially live a better life. The
Lucky Ones demonstrate that at a time of settlement and rejection due to ethnicity that racism was
strong and how much it impacted immigration. This book seems like it would target an audience
of immigrants who were trying to keep astray from their original life. Also, the book picks up on
racism and hatred towards certain nationalities at the time that are not caucasian. Ngai, a history
professor from Columbia University chose the Tape family to investigate and resurface their lucky
journey. The author ran into difficulties while trying to find documents, diaries, personal papers
etc., on this middle class, Chinese turned American immigrants. The transformation to live less of
a Chinese lifestyle and more of an Americanized lifestyle was eager for Mary and Joseph Tape.
Mary, whose name had already been Americanized thanks to her caregiver was married to Joseph
Tape. Joseph Tape was originally known as Jeu Dip and changed his name to fit within the culture.
Joseph began to reinvent himself upon arrival to California post gold rush. Since they were
immigrants and also Chinese immigrants at that

The Importance Of STEM Education
The importance of transforming STEM teacher s professional development (PD) for the middle
school is central to the standard based transformation of STEM education and knowledge based
competition of the global economy. Because the knowledge based competition of the 21st century
economy depends on the competitiveness of STEM education, improvement of STEM education
is a national call. In addition, the needs for improvements in K 12 science education align with the
needs for improvement in science teacher s PD. STEM jobs require higher creativity and
innovation, thus STEM teachers and educational leaders are expected to encourage creativity and
innovation in student learning regardless of barriers. Nevertheless, teachers are expected to
overcome all barriers in order to foster active learning by students (Michael, 2007). In general,
STEM education requires teacher s creativity and flexibility. This urges rethinking of the education
leaders and researchers about identifying effective professional development for STEM teachers.
STEM teacher s professional development is becoming much more important than ever for
mainly three reasons. First, according to recent U.S. Bureau of labor statics, STEM jobs are
growing faster than any other U.S. sector estimated increase by 17% by 2024. Giant technology
companies alone need to fill more than 650,000 new jobs by 2018. Nevertheless, U.S. lags by
STEM workforce. Students academic achievement in STEM fields still lags that of their peers

How Ketchum Is A Small Town Of Northeast Oklahoma That Has...
Ketchum is a small town in northeast Oklahoma that has a present day population of 450
residents. Ketchum first became a town in 1899 and was named after a Delaware tribe member
named James Ketchum. The town was originally located in the northeast part of Mayes County,
close to James and his wife Elisabeth s home. However, in 1912 once the Kansas, OklahomaGulf
Railroad was expanded from Kansas to Texas the town was relocated. Residents moved the town
site to the southeastern part of Craig County sandwiched between Mayes County and Delaware
County to be near the railroad.
In 1803 part of the land that would someday become Ketchum was a small portion of the land that
was acquired through the Louisiana Purchase. This land was unsettled and deemed only suitable for
Indian relocation. In 1830 President Andrew Jackson signed The Indian Removal Act and all
Indians West of the Mississippi were forced to move to the Indian Territory. Once the tribes arrived
in Indian Territory they began to rebuild. The struggles to rebuild lasted many years and some
tribes never flourish as they once did. Many of the effects of the forced relocation are still felt
today. Because of the forced removal the Indians did not trust the federal government. When the
civil war began in 1861 many of the Indians sided with the confederates due to the lack of trust
they had with the federal government and many of the tribes fought alongside with the Confederate
army. Old Military Road was a road

How United States Are Not Regulating Same Sex Marriage Law
Section I
This paper will examine problem on how states are not regulating same sex marriage law passed
in the United States. I will explains certain areas in the united states where the government has
yet to fully enforced the law for legalization of same sex marriage since its official decision on
June 26, 2015 while in fact many states have done everything in their power to prevent
homosexuals from expressing their new constitutional right. In the following I will talk about
certain a state and its government official in power trying to get the legislation to reconsider their
current decision. I will also speak about 2 court cases which give us the current nationwide act of
same sex marriage; Obergefell v. Hodges and United States v. Windsor. Although there are far more
cases on the subjects they have had influences that have not had as major contribution as these two
cases have had. I will recommend three policies that would help the LGBT community regarding
their union right; stricter establishment of enforcing the law, reinforcing the separation of church
and state, and educating the community on the benefits of same sex marriage.
Sections II
Problems after June 26, 2015 quickly arose such as government officials encouraging their people
that the current law will not change their states policies and have the right refuse to give marriage
licenses to homosexual couples as they have always done in the past. Gary gates wrote that

William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet was by far the most well known classical piece of
romance literature in the world, a powerful tragedy drama. In decades it has been adapted into
movies by directors from all sorts of language backgrounds. Among those, two of them are
definitely the most successful and famous adaptations the muchly appreciated classical Franco
Zeffirelli s 1968 version and the modern version directed by Baz Luhrmann in 1996 was although
controversial, it portrayed the purest and unstoppable love in a turbulent society by using creative,
jazzy elements that was stylishly edited in a modern way. Both of the 1968 and 1996 films have

Costumes in both of the films show the cheerfulness of the occasion, however, the costume in
the first film is more classical while the costume choice of the second film is full of creativity
and demonstrated energy and intrigue to the audiences. Other than that, the main character
Romeo and Juliet s costumes are carefully chosen and have symbolic meanings in them Romeo
wears a knight costume for his soul of lead , while Juliet wears an angel costume, intimating her
innocence and pure soul at that time. From details like this it is found that in the 1996 film,
more meaningful additions were added for more drama and emotions, and also the thoroughness
of the progress of plot. The use of lighting does play an important role in the films though have
not resulted on as big effect as the props and clothing. The lighting makes the effect to apply
colours to the atmosphere, e.g. In the 1968 film, daylight is largely used to create the dusty and

used to add provide an interesting perspective of the scene. What the lighting

Hershey s Way Of Making Chocolate
Chocolate is one of the most popular products consumed in the United States and all around the
world. Hershey Chocolate Company originated in 1894, by Milton Hershey (Hershey Company,
2015). He was the first American who began producing milk chocolate bars, and eventually
created multiple flavors that changed the chocolate industry forever. With such mass production
and success, Hershey was able to make milk chocolate, a once luxury item for the wealthy, into
an affordable treat for all (Hershey Company, 2015). Hershey s way of making chocolate is one of
a kind. Hershey starts the chocolate making process by importing cocoa beans from cacao trees
found in tropical regions near the equator. Cacao is ultimately the key ingredient to... Show more

The milk is mixed with sugar into a taffy like consistency where it will then be blended with
chocolate liquor. The milk adds the sweet taste and smooth texture while the chocolate liquor
adds the chocolate flavor. By combining chocolate liquor, milk and sugar it creates a chocolate
crumb where it is then ground into a fine powder to create chocolate paste. The chocolate paste
is refined in the conching machine where it brings out more of the rich chocolate flavor. The
final step to Hershey s chocolate making process is sending the chocolate to the drying rack
where it will be cooled, wrapped and distributed all around the world for consumption. For the S
mores taste test, four different types of Hershey chocolate were used to conduct the experiment.
There are multiple differences between all four types of Hershey s chocolates and ingredients
used to make them. Milk Chocolate(remove comma)is Hershey s signature chocolate and sold
in the masses. This product goes in most Hershey products such as the chocolate bars, kisses,
etc. Hershey s milk chocolate is very smooth, and even has a little gritty texture. This chocolate
is very sweet and not too chocolaty. Hershey s milk chocolate contains milk, which gives it a
creamy texture, sweet flavor and a light brown color. Hershey s special dark chocolate is a lot
different than milk chocolate is it is not the most popular flavor Hershey sells. Dark chocolate
provides a semi sweet, slightly bitter flavor

Frida Kahlo Vs Jacques Derrida
It can be argued that Frida Kahlo is a painter that challenged the ideas pertaining to gender, race,
and sexuality. She is known for questioning the essence of these identities. Kahlo famously painted
depictions which show her questioning and exploring her own identity. When looking at her whole
body of work, it is apparent that Kahlo was interested in gender and racial constructs. Frida Kahlos
painting, Diego and Frida, 1929 1944 is one visual example of how Frida Kahlo was an artist that
challenged ideas surrounding gender, race, and sexuality. This painting can be seen through the lens
of deconstruction to offer a deeper insight into its meaning. Vernon Minor and Jacques Derrida are
art theorists that have also speculated about deconstruction. These two both made an argument that
deconstruction is made stronger when direct opposites are used.... Show more content on

Deconstruction at its core is an act that ask questions for the sake of asking questions. This is so
because deconstruction is not about reaching a conclusion. Rather, deconstruction seeks to
expand questioning in order to expand perception. Jacques Derrida points out, that there is no
such thing as true deconstruction. Derrida states that every decoding is another encoding It is
important to note that in so saying this, Derrida has fundamentally defining a key characteristic
of decoding. There is no way to truly decode as there is always a naturally occurring need to seek
to define what has been decoded. This, however, is not the goal of decoding. The true aim of
decoding is to continually ask questions in order to raise new questions thus, new understanding.
Diego and Frida 1929 1944 contains specific points of reference within the painting that allude to
decoding. In particular, Frida Kahlo uses binary opposites as imagery in this

How Did The French Conquer Indochina
Not intending to conquer Indochina all at once, the French aimed to convert the Vietnamese to
Catholicism, establish a strategic presence in Southeast Asia, and secure products such as rice,
coffee, and rubber. The French progressively increased their control over Indochina (Vietnam,
Cambodia, and Laos) over a prolonged duration of time, more than 350 years. Welcomed into
Indochina for their specialized skills and their association to European suppliers of western
merchandise and weapons, the Europeans started taking advantage. The French East India
Company, a commercial enterprise, obtained sufficient traction in Indochina in 1688. Therefore a
system was formed which carried on for centuries. When French soldiers,... Show more content on

After French rule ended, the French language was still widely used among the new governments.
There was little organized resistance to the French, and what there was was scattered, because of
the northerners and southerners having a large rivalry. After World War 2 the Viet Minh managed
to unite the two groups when the Japanese had surrendered. The French had not yet reaffirmed
control. The post war French government was unstable. After the French tried to stop the Viet
Minh resistance in 1946, they broke away and war began. In fact, the French effort all along was
hindered by lack of resources and limited support in France, and they were now far from a
superpower. The Vietnamese ultimately won the war. To a degree, the French did bring some
commercial and economic activity to Vietnam in the form of rubber and agricultural production
and developed architecture in the cities like harbors, roads, schools and sewage removal. They
also developed a system for delivering fresh water. However, the French did not do this to benefit
the Vietnamese, rather, they did it to make money, educate the workforce and develop a successful

Raoul Wallenberg Research Paper
Raoul Wallenberg is credited with saving the thousands of lives of Jews who were taken into Hitler
s concentration camps during World War II. His devotion and honored Swedish heroism earned him

He was born on August 4, 1912, three months after the death of his father, Raoul Oscar
Wallenberg. His mother, Maj Wising Wallenberg remarried Fredrick von Darriel in 1918.
Wallenberg s grandfather, Gustav Wallenberg, took care of his education while he was growing up,
having in his mind that he would carry on the tradition of his family as highly respected bankers,
diplomats, and politicians. But Wallenberg had his own interest. He loved architecture, and in 1930

Biological Theories Of Deviance
Deviance differ from culture to culture and person to person, it is hard to pinpoint what is
considered deviant to the masses and what is not. For example. a single culture may accept the
idea of marrying off their daughter at a young age as acceptable, but other cultures may not and
might find this to be a heinous act. While there are different forms of deviants ranging from
criminal, sexual, to even a persons lifestyle, theories have been reformed throughout the decades
to better explain the basis of these abnormal acts. There are various theories of deviancy. It is
because deviance is not restricted to a single type of biology, psychology, or sociology. Biological
theories of deviance focuses primarily on the nature of the individual.

The Feminist Movement Of Women Essay
Miller s work helped to shed light on the intersectionality of women s movements, not everyone
agreed on what changes feminism should bring or if it should exist at all in Mexican society.
Before her work, there existed a generally accepted assumption among politically active women
that their common interests as women in gaining the vote, in health care, in education cut across
class backgrounds and ideological orientations. This was most certainly not the case in Mexico,
as Miller found out, being involved in the feminist movement meant that women risked losing not
only respectability but their claim, as women and mothers, to the protection of society. Women
played a major role in the protection of the longevity of societal norms, as they trained the next
generation. This idea was so entrenched in the Mexican social mores that women involved in the
feminist movement were considered to not be decent mothers or women. This led to a counter
movement by the Union of Catholic Women of Mexico that asserted that women place was in the
home, and equated socialism with free love and feminism. Miller s book fits well with the other
revisionist history work that is going on during the late 1980s and 1990s. She notes that revisionist
work has been going on in all disciplines, not just history, For nearly two decades, scholars and
activists have painstakingly reexamined every field of human endeavor to reconquer revindivar a
space for women in history, literature,

What Is Robin Black Short Story
To die is the only thing we can be sure of, that everybody will. Everybody will die, and you
cannot do anything to live forever. You can live long, and some can live longer than others, but
we will all die, sooner or later. This short story is about a woman called Sarah. She looks back at
her childhood. When Sarah was a child she lost her big brother, Terry. Now, later in Sarah s life,
she needs to go through another loss, but this time it is her son, who losses his friend, Peter. I
looked up the author, Robin Black, and I think she can relate to her short story herself. She got
married, divorced and remarried. She sees herself very much in her third child. The things Robin

It is too soon to die, when you are still a kid, and no one deserves to live through stuff like early
deaths. But still, maybe it is destiny. But death is the one of the hardest things to get through. It
does not become easier the older you get. There can be different types of factors for death. You
can be very sick, like Terry, have physical damage, or you can be lucky to die of old age. Some
people say, that you can die from grief. I do not think, that you can die from grief. You can die as
a result of grief. You maybe stop eating or drinking, and that you can die for. But you cannot die
exactly of grief. But another theme is also love. It is hard to lose someone, but losing someone you
love is even harder. Death makes us appreciate life more, and the people surrounding us.
The name of the short story is Divorced, beheaded, survived . The name is a part of the rhythm:
Divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded survived , which refer to King Henry VIII six wives.
He is divorced from his first wife, and his second wife, Anne Boleyn, got beheaded. The third wife
dies, he is divorced from the forth one, the fifth one is also beheaded, and the last wife survives.
Death is something most of us do not want to face. It is hard for some people to admit, that
everybody is going to die. Some loss feels unfair, and way to early. You have to letting people use
their time to grief. Maybe it is destiny and maybe

Like for instance, people are required to watch a one hour first aid educational video clip before taking an exam that allows a person to gain a state certification and the chance to be hired at the Texas Health Center. • 3. Stalingrad Narrative The Battle of Stalingrad In August 1942, Hitler s massive Sixth Army marched to the city that was named after Stalin. During the five month siege, the Russians fought to hold the city and were determined to hold it at any cost. The book Stalingrad shows the roles of soldiers on both the Russian and German side, as well as fighting in inhuman conditions, and some of the experiences from civilians who were trapped in the battlefield. Antony Beevor interviewed some of the survivors and discovered new untold stories and facts in a wide range of German and Soviet archives. Some of these included prisoner interrogations and reports of desertions and executions. As a story of cruelty, courage, and human suffering, Stalingrad is extraordinary and unforgettable. Many historians argue that the Battle of Stalingrad was the turning point of WW II in Europe. During the course of war, changes in moods, thoughts, and impressions of the Germans, Romanians and Soviets were easily depicted. It documents the impact on the psychological changes of the war but justifies how it changed the history of modern warfare as we know it. Stalingrad is a story of the well known Battle of Stalingrad that took place on the Eastern Front of Europe during World War II, which is written by world renowned historian Antony Beevor. It covers all the parts of the siege from start to finish, it begins from the Axis invasion of the USSR, right up to the very end of the outcomes of the various prisoners of war that were captured at Stalingrad. On June 22, 1941, Adolf Hitler launched his massive army eastward in order to invade the Soviet Union. The army consisted of three groups with over three million German soldiers, 150 divisions, and three thousand tanks. The invasion covered a front from the North Cape to the Black Sea, a distance of two thousand miles. By this point German military was the best at everything they did, the forces invading Russia represented the best and strongest army to fight during that time. Barbarossa was the crucial turning point in World War II, for its failure forced Nazi Germanyto fight a two front war against a coalition possessing immensely superior resources. R G Gallager [1] in his paper, the overview of low density parity check codes are presented. The parity check matrix specifies these codes, which consists of few entries of non zero elements. The number of non zero elements in row should be greater than the number of non zero elements in column. The typical minimum distance of these codes are directly proportional to block length for a fixed rate. A simple but non optimum decoding scheme operating directly from the channel is described. The nerves that send messages to the body are located all throughout the spinal cord. Additionally, within the brain there are three major regions. They are called the central core, the limbic system, and the cerebral cortex, which has four hemispheres. The four hemispheres are the occipital lobe, the temporal lobe, the parietal lobe, and the frontal lobe. Found within the central core region of the brain are five different regions. Each region controls different behavioral functions within the human body. These regions are called the medulla, pons, cerebellum, thalamus, and hypothalamus. The medulla is responsible for many vital functions, such as; the heart rate, the regulation of respiration, and even the blood pressure flow throughout the body. The pons region of the brain is responsible for the sleep wake cycles. This regulates when the body needs to sleep and awakes the body when it has had enough sleep. • 10. A Study On Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy 1.0Abstract Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a degenerative X linked recessive disorder usually resulting in death in the late third decade. Mutation of Dystrophin gene at Xp21 disrupts the mRNA reading frame resulting in absent dystrophin protein in muscle cells. Currently no therapy can counteract the disease effectively. Exon skipping with oligonucleotide administration restores the reading frame of the mRNA to produce truncated but functional dystrophin and requires repeated administration which can cause drug accumulation toxicity. Mesoangioblast Stem Cell therapy has shown safety but limited efficacy due to problems of migration and engraftment in patient skeletal muscles. The approach of Cell Mediated Exon Skipping in this project will aim to draw from the strengths of previous strategies while reducing their individual limitations. A lentiviral vector expressing small nuclear RNA (snRNA), which can cause permanent skipping of exon 51, was delivered to patient fibroblasts and myoblasts. The snRNA from one corrected nucleus was expected to spread to surrounding uncorrected nuclei. Corrected cells were tested against a control of healthy human muscle biopsy tissue, using Immunofluorescence and PCR for Dystrophin. The hypothesis of neighbouring nuclei correction was tested by Quantitative PCR comparing expression of Dystrophin with a reporter gene, Green Fluorescent Protein, in cultures of corrected and uncorrected cells at relative ratio of 1:10 and 1:50. ... • 14. Culture In African American Culture Music is a creative art form that allows the artist to construct something that expresses a purpose. It evolves over time and changes as the world changes, taking on many different motivations behind the melody and lyrics. In today s society, anger, oppression, racism, and negative opinions rule the media and popular culture. I believe that African Americans need to show their self worth and not let white peoplehold them back. With the music in white culture often mocking African American culture and portraying negative stereotypes, African Americans have to find ways to gain respect. In acknowledgement of the negative portrayal of their culture, African Americans respond by creating songs and videos that express their pride in their culture and heritage, react to white oppression, and communicate their independence. Kanye West s Blood on the Leaves is a powerful hip hop song that addresses modern day struggles such as drugs, sex, and poverty. Throughout the song, the lyrics of Strange Fruits by Billie Holiday blare from the background, stating strange fruit swinging from the poplar trees... blood on the leaves (Blood on the Leaves) over and over. This paper will cover the development in Heathcliff, how Catherine Earnshaw influenced other characters even though we didn t meet her in the story, the symbolism shown in the novel, how Wuthering Heights fits into the category of gothic fiction, as well as my own expert opinion of the story. In the story Heathcliff is a pretty significant character. He is brought in by Mr. Earnshaw as an orphan and is treated well by him. He then starts to fall in love with Mr. Earnshaw s daughter Catherine that lasts the whole story. However, when Mr. Earnshaw dies, his son Hindley becomes in charge of the house basically treats Heathcliff as a servant, he constantly looks down at him as if he is useless. So, in the beginning of the story when Heathcliff is first introduced as a dirty orphan who is taken in by Mr. Earnshaw who is instantly hated by Hindley because he feels his father loves Heathcliff more than himself. This results in Hindley bullying Heathcliff as a child and when Mr. Earnshaw dies and he becomes in charge to remember to flog him. At this point in the story and the first transformation of Heathcliff he goes from being an orphan to being hated by Hindley and becoming his human punching bag. The words separate and peace represent a variety of ideas in Knowles novel, especially for Gene, Phineas, and Leper. The main aim of the whole project was to find the emotions, reactions, and reflections that the people of Laramie manifested concerning the beating and subsequent death of a twenty three year old college student (Gale, 2016). A lot of questions were raised concerning the death as people had different point of views. Some thought it was a hate crime, others thought it was just a brutal assault or a form of robbery. Four hundred interviews were conducted so as to come up with the reasons behind the brutal murder straight from the town folks. The main issue was how homosexuality was defined in the crime. • 29. Jazz, By Louis Armstrong Jazz midterm 1. Louis Armstrong is credited in the book titled Jazz as the single most important figure in the development of jazz. He is known as the only major figure in Western musical history to have a profound influence as a singer and an instrumentalist. His defining qualities as a performer were the emotion, beauty, and technical mastery he brought to each performance, and he knew how to please an audience. Performing jazz was a personal and powerful experience to him, and it was communicated effectively to his audience. Duke Ellington is quoted as calling him a truly good and original man, and his contributions to jazz music reflect that statement. Prior to Armstrong s involvement, jazz was considered an urban folk music that was closely related to ragtime and military bands. Jazz was music played by an ensemble for social functions, such as dances or funerals. Armstrong provided five major areas of innovation that progressed this music, changing how it was perceived drastically, from solely entertainment, to widely successful art music with commercial success. Armstrong s first major influence was the establishment of a blue scale and creating what is now jazz s harmonic foundation. Over this, he was free to improvise, another major contribution of his. The solos he performed demonstrated that improvised music could have weight and substance like written music, and set the groundwork for many to come. The Importance Of Temperature Control In The Human Body Temperature control is the body s natural way of warming and cooling its self, allowing it to stay at one particular temperature (37oC or 98oF) Receptors in the skin detect changes in the external temperature. They pass this information to the processing centre in the brain Hypothalamus. Hypothalamus is a processing centre in the brain that controls body temperature and is in charge of sending out signals to other conductors. It does this by triggering curtain mechanism such as goose bumps, sweet gland, shivering and automatic responses i.e taking off or putting on clothing when hot and cold. These automatic mechanism helps the body maintain and control its preferred temperature, this helps keep the organs, enzymes and cells working at a good speed keeping you healthy and stable. Temperature regulation is a vital function in our body that without it our body won t be able to function and we will die. The temperature regulation of the human body has many ways of cooling and heating. The hormones from the hypothalamus govern the physiologic functions such as thirst, hunger, sleep, mood and temperature regulation and a lot more. If one function breaks down they all will suffer causing massive health issues and even death. Thermoregulatory is a process that allows your body to maintain its core internal temperature. • 42. Falstaff And King Henry As Father Figures In Henry IV Part 1 In Henry IV Part 1, although Falstaff and King Henry act as father figures in Hal s life and are both intelligent in their own right, the differences in their tone and diction showcase the major differences in their personalities and relationship with pride. Although King Henry and Falstaff are extremely different characters, both do act as father figures in Hal s life with Falstaff as a surrogate father and King Henry as Hal s birth father. With King Henry, this fatherly relationship emerges as one of blindly scolding and ordering around his son, an example being when the King criticizes Hal s friends, rude society (3.2.14). The relationship with Hal and his surrogate father, Falstaff, though is much more relaxed with Falstaff teasing Hal, by touching on Hal s slight insecurity of taking care of his princely duties, calling Hal true prince(2.4.106). Although both these relationships are very different in how relaxed they are, there is a similarity of King Henry and Falstaff acting as fatherly figures in Hal s life. Both characters are also extremely intelligent in their own right. Falstaff often references mythical beings and makes intelligent metaphors, one of these being when Falstaff says, thou knowest I am as valiant as Hercules (2.4.106). Along with this reference to Hercules, being very intelligent for a man as lower class as Falstaff, it also shows that Falstaff is prideful in a joking manner. Falstaff knows that he is not as valiant as Hercules, shown in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. The Importance Of STEM Education The importance of transforming STEM teacher s professional development (PD) for the middle school is central to the standard based transformation of STEM education and knowledge based competition of the global economy. Because the knowledge based competition of the 21st century economy depends on the competitiveness of STEM education, improvement of STEM education is a national call. In addition, the needs for improvements in K 12 science education align with the needs for improvement in science teacher s PD. STEM jobs require higher creativity and innovation, thus STEM teachers and educational leaders are expected to encourage creativity and innovation in student learning regardless of barriers. Nevertheless, teachers are expected to overcome all barriers in order to foster active learning by students (Michael, 2007). In general, STEM education requires teacher s creativity and flexibility. This urges rethinking of the education leaders and researchers about identifying effective professional development for STEM teachers. STEM teacher s professional development is becoming much more important than ever for mainly three reasons. First, according to recent U.S. Bureau of labor statics, STEM jobs are growing faster than any other U.S. sector estimated increase by 17% by 2024. Ketchum first became a town in 1899 and was named after a Delaware tribe member named James Ketchum. The town was originally located in the northeast part of Mayes County, close to James and his wife Elisabeth s home. However, in 1912 once the Kansas, OklahomaGulf Railroad was expanded from Kansas to Texas the town was relocated. Residents moved the town site to the southeastern part of Craig County sandwiched between Mayes County and Delaware County to be near the railroad. In 1803 part of the land that would someday become Ketchum was a small portion of the land that was acquired through the Louisiana Purchase. This land was unsettled and deemed only suitable for Indian relocation. In 1830 President Andrew Jackson signed The Indian Removal Act and all Indians West of the Mississippi were forced to move to the Indian Territory. Once the tribes arrived in Indian Territory they began to rebuild. The struggles to rebuild lasted many years and some tribes never flourish as they once did. Many of the effects of the forced relocation are still felt today. Because of the forced removal the Indians did not trust the federal government. When the civil war began in 1861 many of the Indians sided with the confederates due to the lack of trust they had with the federal government and many of the tribes fought alongside with the Confederate army. Frida Kahlos painting, Diego and Frida, 1929 1944 is one visual example of how Frida Kahlo was an artist that challenged ideas surrounding gender, race, and sexuality. Deconstruction at its core is an act that ask questions for the sake of asking questions. This is so because deconstruction is not about reaching a conclusion. Derrida states that every decoding is another encoding It is important to note that in so saying this, Derrida has fundamentally defining a key characteristic of decoding. There is no way to truly decode as there is always a naturally occurring need to seek to define what has been decoded. This, however, is not the goal of decoding. The true aim of decoding is to continually ask questions in order to raise new questions thus, new understanding. • 53. The Feminist Movement Of Women Essay Miller s work helped to shed light on the intersectionality of women s movements, not everyone agreed on what changes feminism should bring or if it should exist at all in Mexican society. Before her work, there existed a generally accepted assumption among politically active women that their common interests as women in gaining the vote, in health care, in education cut across class backgrounds and ideological orientations. This was most certainly not the case in Mexico, as Miller found out, being involved in the feminist movement meant that women risked losing not only respectability but their claim, as women and mothers, to the protection of society. Women played a major role in the protection of the longevity of societal norms, as they trained the next generation. This idea was so entrenched in the Mexican social mores that women involved in the feminist movement were considered to not be decent mothers or women. This led to a counter movement by the Union of Catholic Women of Mexico that asserted that women place was in the home, and equated socialism with free love and feminism. Miller s book fits well with the other revisionist history work that is going on during the late 1980s and 1990s. She notes that revisionist work has been going on in all disciplines, not just history, For nearly two decades, scholars and activists have painstakingly reexamined every field of human endeavor to reconquer revindivar a space for women in history, literature, ...
