Acid Despotism Affecting North America
Acid Despotism affecting North America
Acid despotism means the rain, snow, and hail; have all been made sufficiently acidic by
atmospheric pollution that will inevitably cause environmental harm. How the the atmosphere
becomes polluted is from NOx s, SOx s and CO2. These source evaporate into the atmosphere
and accumulate. North America has a wind pattern that moves from west to east so all the
atmospheric pollution moves to the east. Normal atmospheric pH is 5.5; according to the graph
all of the brown is sitting at 5.5 pH level. The blue parts in the graph shows where the pH is
lower and is atmosphere is more acidic. Provinces that are not part of the precambrian shield, like

For a water system that had become far to acidic and nothing is living. A process called
freshwater de acidification will spring the the water into becoming healthy again. The process
starts with add the lime directly to the water body. However in the cases of certain lakes where
the turnaround is very quick, the lime is added to the body of water. This has disadvantages
though, the main one being that the lime can have an adverse effect on wetland species of
plants The advantages, however, are that the effects are longer lasting and metals are prevented
from leaching into the lake water from the soil. The alkalinity of the limed lake is increased, the
pH increased and heavy metal concentrations decrease back to within safe limits for fish life. The
number of species of fish, animals and plankton increases as does biomass production. The
chemical equation for liming water is CaCO3(s) + H2SO4(aq) в‡Ё CaSO4*2H2O + CO2(g). If
your soil or forest becomes too acidic a process called liming will help. Soil pH is a measure of the
relative acidity or alkalinity in soils. It is a fundamental chemical property because it influences the
availability of nutrients and the solubility of elements like aluminum and manganese, which are
detrimental to crop

Edward Jenner and the Cowpox Vaccine
Most parents trust their pediatrician or family doctor more than anyone when it comes to the health
of their child. However, many parents are beginning to question their doctor s advice when it comes
to vaccinating their children. After countless accusations of harmful effects of childhood
vaccinations, some parents have decided to stop having their child vaccinated, putting not only their
child, but the entire human population in danger.
In 1796, Edward Jenner created a vaccine developed from the cowpox virus. He then gave this
vaccine to a 13 year old boy who was suffering from smallpox. The boy became immune to the
smallpox disease and Jenner was named the founding father of vaccinations. After his discovery,
vaccines were later created for Cholera, Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis, and Polio ( A Brief History ).
Vaccines were developed in order to trick the body into making antibodies ( Understanding ).
Using germs that are similar, but not harmful, to the disease a vaccine is trying to prevent,
vaccines are able to mimic body responses by creating memory in the T and B helper cells that
can help the body fight diseases before one develops symptoms of the illness ( Vaccines and Your
Health ). The government supports and enforces vaccine use because it can take weeks for the body
to naturally create enough antibodies to fight diseases, and therefore, it is dangerous to rely only on
natural immunity ( Understanding ).
The controversy regarding vaccinations originated after

Why Do People Use Social Networks Detrimental To...
Social networks have been increasingly used by people all over the world. Surging since the
creation of Facebook which now has over one billion active users. These social networks are
services that allow individuals to create an online profile and create their own group of friends
with whom to share a connection. They also allow users to share ideas, pictures/videos, posts,
events, activities and their interests with people in their chosen network. There are many
different social networks providing the same basic service to anyone who wishes to use them,
but also bringing the same problems and risks. Social networks were made for communication,
overcoming barriers like distance; however, it could also be that it is detrimental to
communication and reduces basic communication skills. Trends indicate that 47 percent of
American adults use a social network. A national survey in 2009 found that 73 percent of online
teenagers use social network sites, which is an increase from 55 percent three years earlier. It s
no wonder our real world social lives are seeing some changes. We once used to communicate
with a single person by telephone or letter; writing has now become a very social way of
communicating although it was once a solitary activity. Now, with one post we can reach
thousands of people. Personal barriers are quickly broken down through the use of social media.
There are things people would never tell anyone over the phone or in person, but through Facebook

If Not For Purchasing Some Mint Oil At The Apothecary
If not for purchasing some mint oil at the apothecary, Morgana might have spun around and
interrupted the conversation going on behind her between two men, whose loud voices indicated
they thought the world ought to hear their opinions. ...and who would have expected it? said one.
Excellent news, of course; Camelot boasts some rare fine wines I ve been longing to plunder for
years! Rare fine wines, indeed. She pretended to glance around, quickly taking note of the men in
question. One, perhaps the one who had just spoken, was scratching his beard with a conspiratorial
air, as though he had signed the Treaty himself. The second, impossibly thin for his age, had a stoop
to his shoulders and rough skin. The thin man nodded. Indeed! I rather feared there would be no
peace given their history, and what with that mad woman on the run... Oh, she hasn t been seen
since Ismere, don t worry about that... ...trying to steal the Throne of Camelot, who on earth does
she think she is? Morgana took a deep breath and forced herself to stare at the ostentatious hat of a
man standing not far forward. These men, probably merchants, cared for nothing but the
continuation of their business with minimal disturbance, so of course her frequent declarations of
war against Camelot were inconvenient. Fine. They could be forgiven for misunderstanding that
rather than stealing Camelot s Throne, she was simply reclaiming her rightful inheritance. Once
they understood the righteousness

Communication in American Literature Essay example
American literature has changed since the industrial revolution. As a child matures into an adult, so
has American literature grown to include the problems faced in reality. The word fiction
transformed from the fairy tales of romanticism to the reality of realism in America. Authors such
as: Clemens, Howells, Chopin, Eliot, Faulkner, and Anderson have all assisted the move from
dreams to reality. Dramatists O neill and Miller have written plays that have changed the way social
circumstances are viewed by Americans. Americans, as portrayed by American writers, have been
plagued with an inability to communicate feelings through speech, yet from the industrial
revolution to post second World War, American writers have

I studied a minute, sort of holding my breath, and then says to myself: All right, then, I ll go to hell
(Clemens 168). The dilemma of whether to turn in a runaway slave grips Huck s heart, and like
most all human beings the struggle is not put into words to others, but is sounded silently within.
Clemens understood realism, and placed an emphasis on a social issue burning hot in his day. He
took a fictional character and gave him a mind, and let the audience, the reader, view his expression
of communication within himself. Words communicate thoughts, yet thoughts in fictional realism
are the expressions of characters that cannot express their thoughts into words.
Clemens barely scratched the surface depicting the problems with communicating in America.
W.D. Howells, a realist, focused his works on the here and now, the immediacy of time, and
critical social issues. In Howells text s, human beings are exposed as creatures of thought, not
expression. Alan Trachtenburg, author of The Incorporation of America, spoke of Howells as a
writer who was notorious for creating fictions of fact rather than fable (202). Trachtenburg also
quotes Howells as saying, Realists want to know the world as it really is, to create a world of
fiction congruent with real life (184). Howell s realism depicts characters unable to communicate
their feelings and feeling unfulfilled in their attempts to express themselves. In

A. Value of each individual compensation package
Stock Option Compensation
In order to forecast the value of the stock option package, determining the call price is initially.
There are two approaches to calculate the call price for each option, black scholes and binominal
pricing. In addition, the current stock price, exercise price, time of option, annualized interest
rate, and the riskiness of the stock are the inputs for either approach. In the market, the current
price is $18.75. It is much lower than the 5 year offer exercise price for each option which is $35.
Besides, the risk free rate is 6.02% for the 5 year Treasury bill (Exhibit 4). As well, the stock...

C. Incentives
The stock option plans can create the appropriate incentives to either corporations or employees.
For the recipients, it can be regarded to tax reduction. By avoiding the income tax payments,
stock option would help the employees with high annualized income salaries by converting part
of income to capital gains. Furthermore, stock options are effective way to correlate performance
and compensation. In the other words, it implies that compensation would boost the individual
performance as well the overall performance of the firm. For the employees in high positions, the
compensation would encourage them to act in the best interest of company to foster company
growths as well as increase the stock prices. Employees, talented and excellent, are the main
purposes of creating incentive plans by the company. Generally, the stock option only benefits the
executives with high income salaries and in the decision making positions, where have ability to
impact on the company s profitability and growth. Therefore, in order to make the stock option
plans are more favorable, the company should individualize the package based on different
positions. Further, granting the privileges of early exercise or lessen the period of stock options
would also motivate the employees to take the plans. These set up of

Nazi Germany And The Nazi Party
Throughout Nazi Germany in the period 1928 through to 1941, racism was utilized by Hitler,
and in turn his Nazi party, firstly to secure Hitler s position as a dictator, and secondly to unite
the German people against a common enemy, which would lead to a united powerful state, ready
and able to exert its national will. Whether or not his aims were oppressive in nature is debatable
but, his aims for racial purification and domination over Eastern Europe are made obvious
before Hitler s assumption of power, primarily in the racist crude writings of Mein Kampf, and
even from Moellers Des drittes Reich from the 1920s. It can be said, therefore, though Hitler may
not have been successful in achieving an oppressive state, he may certainly have desired it.
Constantly, it is made obvious, through his use of racism in both Domestic and foreign policy that
Hitler s ultimate aim, was total power, both for himself and his master race the Volksgeminschaft.
Hitler s use of racism is continually evident from the beginning of his comings to power, through
till his attack on the Soviet Union in June of 1941. Racism, was initially used by Hitler to identify
his sympathizers, and most predominant to unite the German people again public internal enemy
number one The Jews. Anti semitism, anti communism and attacks on several other minority
groups ranging from slaves to democrats, provided Hitler with the Stab in the back theory post

The Morality of Managed Care Essay
The Morality of Managed Care
The preservation of health is a duty according to Herbert Spencer, an English philosopher
(Andrews, 1993). Managed care conglomerates provide health coverage for increasing numbers of
Americans. Many critics question whether these businesses provide care dutifully. At the very least,
the present managed care system requires health care providers and recipients to reexamine
established principles underling physician patient interaction. Although health maintenance
organizations are commonly misunderstood, Americans hope these institutions will dampen
runaway health care expenditures. Since HMO s are increasing in number, health care recipients
need to examine how established, ethical principles in America ... Show more content on

Unlike fee for service reimbursement which was normative previous to managed care, HMO s
usually pay doctors and hospitals massive sums up front. These payments are arranged per diem,
by capitation, or sometimes by fixed salary. Many critics of managed care believe that these
compensation packages are immoral.
What Health Care Is Now
In order to ascertain the merit of managed health care, ethical presuppositions guiding our health
care system require consideration. In the United States, four main principles undergird the way
health care is practiced. These principles are: beneficence, nommaleficence, autonomy and justice.
Beneficence is the obligation of health care providers to render help to people in need. Just as
health care workers are called to provide care, they also have a duty to do no harm. This principle
is commonly called nonmaleficence. At times, the possibility of doing good may result in injury.
Therefore, the principle of beneficence and nonmaleficence do not always concur. Thirdly, the
principle of autonomy allows patients to make choices regarding their health care. In other words,
health care providers should allow patients to make the final decision regarding their treatment plan.
Finally, justice refers to the ethical concept of treating everyone in a

Essay On Voter Turnout
Voting constitutes the backbone of Democracy
Voter Turnouts in Canada: Restoring a Civic Duty
Grant Macewan University
December 6th 2011
Political Science 101
Term Paper
In a democratic system it is vital that citizens engage in their civic duty of voting; only then can a
proper governing body be chosen to represent the will of the majority. Abraham Lincoln got to the
core of democracy when he stated, the government of the people, by the people and for the
people. In the last 50 years of Canadian history we have begun to see a decline in voter turnout;
ranging from 80% of citizens voting in 1962, gradually dwindling to 59.1% in the year 2008

One of the greatest factors in deciding which Member of Parliament many voters will trust with
representing them is the level of confidence they have in the political leader. Confidence is the
greatest of all voter assets for it requires knowledge of the leader s platform, and the platform of the
opposition.
Political scientists have made tremendous efforts in discovering what factors influence the voting
turnouts. Irrefutably within any country, older citizens and those with higher education and income
are more likely to participate in elections; this possibly explains the partisanship, a method of the ill
informed, displayed along the east coast, for the educational requirements attributed to these
provinces are less than the Canadian national average (Garnier , 2006). When an election has
closely contested parties there is a higher voter turnout, for citizens believe that their votes will
make more of a difference. In Canada it has been proven that citizens are more likely to vote in
national elections than in municipal elections; municipal elections typically garner less than 50%
of the voting populace s support, while national elections have never experienced less than a 60%
turnout (Heard, 2011). Proportional representation has been associated with higher voter turnouts;
as opposed to Single member plurality systems, the system used in Canada, where voters feel their
efforts to make a difference are futile due to the First

Why Is Social Media Good Or Bad
Have you ever had a good or bad experience with social media? Have you ever been a part of a
protest that was started on social media? I think that social media is a good thing because you
can have so much fun on it and even make friends on in. Without that you would be limited to
the kids in your neighborhood and in some places there are not a lot of kids that you can make
friends with or they do not live close so you have to drive there. That is all fixed with social
media. Like recently I have found some friends on social media that I play games with. They are
super nice and without social media I would have never had that experience I would have to
play be myself all the time and have no one to talk to. But now I have the chance to make friends
and have fun with them even tho they live far away. Also colleges and most jobs look at your
social media account to see what kind of person you are and if you are able to work so not only
can you have fun but you can also potentially make money from it and you can make friends.
Things like Facebook are so convenient to talk with friends or family without that we would need

learn so much online and find so many cool and interesting things about things you did not even
know existed. Also you can buy things online so you do not have to go look for it in a store and
have it not be there which is a big waste of time. With the web you can buy things that you know

Nigerian Culture Essay
The country of Nigeria is located in West Africa, sharing land borders with Chad, Niger, Benin, and
Cameroon. The country covers 923,768 square kilometers, making it the 32nd largest nation in the
world. This is the most populous country in Africa with more than 160 million people living there.
Nigeria has three major ethnic groups the Hausa Fulani, the Igbo, and the Yoruba. These Three
groups constitute about 70 percent of the population (Chigozie, 2016).
Understanding the Nigerian culture, one must first understand what defines culture. Culture is a
system of shared beliefs, values, customs, behaviors, and artifacts that members of a society use to
cope with their world and with one another. Through matters of culture, society finds meaning in
ideas, norms, rituals, and codes of behavior. Social structure refers to the relations of people within
a system of groups. Social structure and culture are also mutually dependent and reinforcing. A
change in one results in a change in the other (Army, 2006). Nigeria population s has both
Christians and Muslims in a nearly equal ratio, with a small percentage of the population following
other religious beliefs such as indigenous faiths or no affiliations at all. Islam arrived in Nigeria in
the 11th and 12th centuries through trade and migration. Several Islamic reform movements have
taken place in Nigeria since the late 1970s, including the Izala movement, Maitatsine, as well as the
Darul Islam. The early movement s

Online Marketing Efforts And Increase Roi
Web analytics is the objective tracking, collection, measurement, reporting, and analysis of
quantitative Internet data to optimize websites and web marketing initiatives. The Web Analytics
Association (WAA) defines Web analytics as the measurement, collection, analysis, and reporting
of Internet data for the purposes of understanding and optimizing Web usage. Web analysts can
reign in data from big to good, and make sense of it all. They sort the real time data into good
metrics, useful metrics. They organize it into reports and analyze those reports to find insights to
improve their online marketing efforts and increase ROI. Web analytics can lead to a deeper
understanding of your target audience. Tracking and analyzing the behavior of consumer traffic on
your website paints a more insightful picture of how to build relationships with your audience. If
you have solid, accurate data to back up your strategies and decisions, then your chances of
creating and executing successful marketing campaigns increase exponentially. Web analytics is
the study of visitor, navigation, and traffic patterns to determine the success of a given web site.
Focusing only on the amount of traffic might only be helpful in evaluating your bandwidth usage

In every school in the United States, teachers would teach students about Columbus and his journey

more than meets the eye. Christopher Columbuss achievements have created a mindset in which

Michael even mentions that Columbus captures and steals natives that he trades with and keeps

natives was rather rash and horrible. Taking natives and use them as personal slaves for is

Argumentative Essay On Global Warming
GLOBAL WARMING
Global warming is an increase of Earth s temperature throughout a period of time. Global
warming is a disease that is one of the root causes of Earth s illness. This invisible change has a lot
of drastic effects on mankind, wildlife as well as nature. The reasons to these destructions are
humans themselves. There are some very obvious ways to tackle the situation. Many of the
extraordinary weather changes since the 1950 s are recorded in the instrumental temperature record
which stretches out to the mid 19th Century while having thousands of years according to the
Paleoclimate Proxy Records [IPCC Climate]. Temperature across the whole world is predicted to
change throughout this century and continuing. The Earth s ability to tackle the emission of heat
trapping gases, as well as the amount of gases released will predict the magnitude of global climate
change [NASA].
Scientists are sure that global temperatures will continue to rise for decades to come, largely due
to greenhouse gases produced by human activities. 2.5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit of temperature
rise is predicted over the next century by a group of 1300 scientists of The Intergovernmental
Panel of Climate Change (IPCC) from the United States[IPCC]. Climate change will have
different effects on different regions depending on the adapting ability with time, of that region,
said IPCC. A 1 to 3 degree Celsius increase in global temperature will have deadly consequences
in some region and propitious one in other regions. Net annual costs will increase over time as
global temperatures increase [NASA]. Now let us move into more detailed information.
Climate change has a lot of effects on the rise of sea levels. Average sea level around the world
rose about 8 inches (20 cm) in the past 100 years; climate scientists expect sea levels to rise more
and more rapidly in the next 100 years as a part of climate change impact. The number of floods
per year has already increased in many coastal cities such as New York and they may need to
build a wall between the sea and the town to protect them from the sea by the mid 21st Century.

Keystone Species Essay
A Keystone species is one that plays a unique and critical role in the way an ecosystem functions.
In short, the disappearance of a keystone species would start a domino effect other species in the
habitat would also decline and become extinct. The keystone species disappearance could affect
other species that rely on it for survival. Two examples of important keystone species in their
communities are: starfish and sea otters. More specifically, these species are found in the Pacific
Northwest, but impact their communities in different ways.
The starfish is a keystone species sometimes found in the Northwest intertidal zones. An intertidal
zone is also known as the seashore, and is the area that is above water at low tide, and underwater at
high tide. Starfish in their community are predators and they feed on mussels found in the same
ecosystem. When starfish have been eliminated from their ecosystem (experimentally), the mussel

The sea otters are very important to the beauty, and biodiversity of their marine ecosystems,
(specifically off the coast of California). They feed on grazing animals such as, sea urchins and
invertebrates, which feed on giant kelp. Without the sea otters, the sea urchins, invertebrates and
any other grazing animal can destroy kelp forests. Even more so, kelp forests are used as homes
to the wide diversity of animals that depend upon kelp habitat for survival. Also, kelp forests
protect coastlines from storm surges, and absorb massive amounts of damaging carbon dioxide

Off Task Behavior Analysis Paper
Comment: The results from the FAST (Functional Assessment Screening Tool) sheet show that
Joey wants to obtain social reinforcement/attention (with a total score of 8 out of 8). The second
highest score from the FAST sheet was social reinforcement /escape (5 out of 8) when Joey
wanted to avoid requests made by others. Thirdly Joey used this behaviour (3 out of 8) to access
specific activities or items. Overall, we can see from the results from the FAST sheet, as well as
the ABC observation form, that during classroom instruction and individual assignments, Joey is
using his off task behaviour most likely to get attention from his teacher and indirectly his
classmates. In Joey s assessment for off task behaviour, there will be no... Show more content on

Joey s reading materials will remain on his desk for the entire session and will not be removed
due to off task behavior (Shumate, Wills, 2010, p. 33). Data Collection Method: Time Based
Method, Interval Recording, Whole Interval will be used to collect data as we are interested in
the behaviour that occurs during the entire interval. Interval recording is flexible and provides
useful data particularly for off task behaviour. It is broken down into intervals or blocks of time,
and observations are marked separately for each interval. Since we would like to get Joey to be
on task, we want to know how long each type of behaviour lasts (on/off), we will therefore
require a method to ensure each duration. Another consideration is to make it as easy as possible
since the teacher is busy and has other students to consider (ear bud, please see materials). Lastly,
but importantly, we need the information to be useful to our particular situation as our goal for
Joey is to be on task most or all the time. Joey s behaviour is non uniform so whole interval method
was chosen, as it will provide better data concerning time on/off task behaviours even though this
method puts more demand on the

The Importance Of Property Rights Of Native Americans
In today s society when thinking of Civil rights, or those whose rights have been taken advantage
of, what is the first minority that comes to mind? For me, I have learned about the abuse towards
African Americans and their history as slaves. Most people don t think of Native Americans. Most
people do not relate Native American issues with modern times. Native Americans are at the bottom
of most economic structures and have been since the beginning of time. I chose to demonstrate
how the majority of the Native American tribes are suffering in terms of social, economic and
intellectual standards due to lack of property rights. Native Americans deserve the same rights as
other American citizens. Solutions that help the Native Americans gain property rights can aid in
the issues that are affecting their everyday life. The property rights of Native Americans have been
abused since the beginning of Early colonization. Beginning with Columbus and other early settlers,
the Native Americans were driven from their land and many were enslaved. Europeans used an
International law, the Doctrine of Discovery, to claim the lands of America. Europeans used the
term terra nullius, empty land, to define an area inhabited by people who were not subject to
international law nor belong to a recognized nation. The American Indians did not qualify, so the
settlers made claim to the land (Crepelle 317). When the early settlers came to the Americas, the
Native Americans helped them learn to

Matthew 1 Genealogies
Matt 1:1 2:23. Predominantly, the Gospel of Matthew 1 traces the lineage of Jesus the Messiah,
the son David and the son of Abraham. These genealogies were important to Israel, as they took
meticulous records for identifying one as a Jew to receive blessings from God, his chosen
people. Furthermore, each tribe received inherited land in Israel, and required evidence that he
was descended from that precise tribe. Expressly, if you were a Jew descended from Mosesand
could prove this connection, it was considered to secure a meaningful blessing. Matthew s sole
purpose is to present JesusChrist as the Savior of Israel. Additionally, he recited numerous
prophecies from the Old Testament, incorporating how Jesus fulfilled them

The Japanese American Internment Camps
After long research on the Japanese American Internment Camps I learned many things I never

not knowing such harm leaders in this country have cost to many. People often think of horrible
historical events and judge many not knowing many of those events are repeating in today s life. I

I believe a way to avoid Black White thinking would have been to alter security and awareness.
There could have been smarter decisions. For example why discriminate all, when we clearly
know not every single Japanese was thinking to attack. Why not be more strict in public places
like, transportations sites or crowded public places. Just like when Osama Bin laden was
assassinated the U.S luckily didn t discriminate everyone who was Arabian. IN other words,
think of better solutions before going to extremes. Reliance of authority also played a role. In
this scenario everyone followed ex president Roosevelt s decisions. Reliance of Authority is
when you believe everything someone is saying is accurate and beneficial. In this case
Roosevelt s order was followed by everybody. U.S citizens wanted the Japanese away. Many
people believed this was a great Idea because It was coming from the government. I don t believe
this true. Teachers, priests, or even the government may share ideas that are not agreeable and
should not be followed but questioned. Hasty Moral Judgement played a similar role to Labeling .
Hasty moral judgement can be described as being prejudice. Simply what the United States did.

War is a curse because it separates families, makes people become senseless to killing and causes
soldiers to become guilty for things that were out of their control. First of all war,is curse

family for twenty years. He is told by his passed mother about his family s condition and it isn t

Being the the Mexican Military in the 1830 s was certainly not the best job in the world,

The Mexican Military was a tough job, and most of the time, it wasn t even a choice. Being in the

Snail Host Compatibility
General concept of snail host compatibility in schistosome infection
It is conceptualised that digenean trematodes were primitively parasites of molluscs; they only
later learned to utilise vertebrate hosts as a result of evolutionary host switching (Muller and
Wakelin, 2002; Lockyer et al., 2004). Nevertheless, transmission of vector borne parasites is
eminently dependent on the degree of vector susceptibility. In a vector parasite system,
compatibility occurs when the parasite is capable of infecting and being transmitted through the
vector and this compatibility is often at the specie or strain level for both parasite and vector
(Lockyer et al., 2004; Perrin et al., 2013). In contrast to the non schistosome molluscan vectors such
as Lymnaea truncatula and Physa acuta, higher levels of calcium (Ca2+) and linoleate in
Biomphalaria and Bulinus vectors make them a suitable host ... Show more content on

The Red Queen hypothesis is based on the assumption that parasite must genetically match its host
for a successful infection (King et al., 2011) and therefore, they must both have an adaptive
molecular dialogue. Compatibility polymorphism where some parasite strains are compatible
with certain host strains but not with others and vice versa also occurs (Mitta et al., 2012; Perrin
et al., 2013). Strains such as BS 90, 13 16 R1 and 10 R2 displaying resistance, and susceptible
strains such as the M line and NMRI serve as a means to evaluate and better understand the driving
mechanisms underpinning snail resistance and susceptibility (Pila et al., 2016). The susceptibility
or resistance of a snail to schistosome infection is a heritable characteristic, and both snail and
parasite genetic constitutions shape the outcome of infection. In Biomphalaria species, resistance
appears to be a dominant character. The expression of a single dominant gene during the adulthood
of some Biomphalaria glabrata stocks confers their resistance to S. mansoni infection whereas,
susceptibility in

Henry Ford And The American Civil War
Henry Ford had only a modest education. He didn t invent the gasoline engine; he didn t invent the
auto mobile; he didn t really invent anything. Yet, when he died in 1947, Ford, and the company
he founded had a profound effect on the world he taught to drive. Given all that he had
accomplished, it s hard to believe Henry Fordwas almost 40 when he established the Ford Motor
Company. At the time America was more agricultural than industrial. Horse less carriages were
toys for a wealthy few. But in just four decades, Henry Ford had in his own words, invented the
modern age .
Henry Ford was born while the American Civil War was still raging. July 30th, 1863, William
and Mary Ford, owners of one of the more substantial homesteads in Dearborn, Michigan, had
their first surviving child named Henry. Henry Ford didn t like the hard life he had been born
into of farming to survive. Luckily going to school offered an escape from the long hours of
endless chores. He was a naturally curious child. Henry Ford was a natural born mechanic. One
of the first places that he was able to express his innate ability was when he received a wrist
watch for his 13th birthday. Like a lot of boys that wanted to learn about machines, he took the
watch apart. But unlike most young boys, he was able to put the watch perfectly back together
again. But in 1876, Henry Ford s orderly world fell apart. His beloved mother, Mary, died during

McCauley further emphasises Stalin s intention of creating a climate of fear as a result of this

Historians have always used great structures from the ancient world to find out information about

famous structures. The Colosseum in Rome gives historians a number of insights to the type of
civilization that existed during the time of the ancient empire, through the gory battles and violent
games that took place. This can be proven by the purpose of the Colosseum and the context
surrounding its construction, the political and economic benefit of the Colosseum to the empire,

The construction of the Colosseum was a propaganda exercise with the aim of pleasing the citizens
which meant that the emperor kept himself in power. The emperors bought their popularity through
free entertainment and corn for the spectators which lead to the emperor buying the peoples votes
(Hopkins, 2011). The magnificent amphitheatre entertained the roman public becoming an
international emblem and propaganda tactic used by emperors to improve their political careers.
The economic benefit that the Colosseum had for Rome was enormous. The Colosseum provided
many jobs for the citizens of Rome; including work as ticket sellers, architects, merchants, slaves,
cleaners, curtain pullers, soldiers (crowd control), musicians, gladiators, animal trainers, sand
layers, engineers etc. (DeLasCasas, 2007). It also assisted the economy as it provided
opportunities for money to move around the different class levels as merchants sold many assets
at the games. Another way that money came into the Ancient Roman economy was through
gambling, people would win and lose fortunes at the games similar to the way people bet on
today s sporting events. According to DeLasCasas, 2007, when the Colosseum was closed in 399
AD the Roman economy suffered as it meant no jobs for a number of citizens, which lead to them
not being able to provide for their families and this lead to poverty. The Roman Colosseum had a

America is known for being a superpower, and this is absolutely true when it comes to leading

Pregnancy is a similar story. Nearly 615,000 teenage women become pregnant on a yearly basis
(purple). That is 6% of the teenage population a record low in 2010. This number was down 51%
from 1990 s statistics (purple). This drastic decrease has been a result of more teenagers using
contraceptives (purple). Still, this rate is double that of Canada s and Sweden s teen pregnancy
rates (purple). The states with highest teen pregnancy rates were New Mexico, followed by
Mississippi, Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. The states with the lowest teen pregnancy rates were
New Hampshire, Vermont, Minnesota, Massachusetts, and Maine (purple). Most of these
pregnancies were that of unwed mothers. Women living in poverty are nearly four times more
likely to become pregnant than those in better socioeconomic situations (red). Teen fathers were
two times as likely to be black than white.
These numbers are staggering compared to our European counterparts. Statistics show that teens in
the United States and Europe are engaging in similar levels of sexual activity, but that European
teenagers are more likely to use contraceptives, which is why they have much lower teen pregnancy
rates (purple).

Freud Vs Frankl And Freud
Running Head: COMPARITIVE PERSONALITY THEORIES OF SIGMUND FREUD AND

Comparative Personality Theories of Sigmund Freud and Viktor Frankl
Luke McGeeney
William James College
For my comparison, I ll be looking at the theories of Sigmund Freud and Viktor Frankl, the creators
of both the first and third Viennese Schools of Psychotherapy, respectively. To begin with, I ll
examine Frankl s theory of existential analysis known as logotherapy. Logotherapy states that we as
human beings are conscious creatures, responsible for our choices and decisions in life. Frankl
proposed a dualistic view of human nature, which claimed that the unconscious is home to both
sides of humanity, with instinctual, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are meant to become our truest selves by finding meaning in our lives, which, according to
Frankl, can come from three places: work, love, and our attitude in the face of horrific suffering
or difficulty. And at the center of this meaning is our responsibility and human right to choose. In
Frankl s theory, we all strive to fulfill a self chosen goal, from which meaning has the potential to
be found. And if no meaning is found, there is meaning yet to be found, or meaning to be drawn
from the apparent lack of meaning. Whatever the case, Frankl viewed man s lack of meaning as
the greatest existential crisis, the stress of this meaninglessness giving life and shape to all of our
neuroses.
This will to meaning is the culmination of our developmental process. To cultivate an individual
s capacity to find meaning in their life is the greatest goal, and the source of mankind s anxiety
and neuroses. We all wish to find the meaning within our life, and are unfulfilled when we miss
the mark. But according to Frankl, there is always meaning in life, in every single moment, from
one to the next we all are capable of making a choice about ourselves, and beyond that, have a
responsibility to do so. Even with the transitory nature of our existence and hopelessness in the face
of certain death, there is still meaning to be found, there is still freedom to be earned.
Unlike Freud s theory that mankind s

the occupational hazards created by ExxonMobil s failed safety protocols and procedures. By not

With new protocols in place, it is estimated by the EPA that ExxonMobil will spend up to $20
million to upgrade their existing storage units for wastewater to prevent future contamination of
the environment (Fowler, 2013). State courts have also come down on ExxonMobil for not
adhering to environmental codes. ExxonMobil agreed to pay $225 million to the state of New
Jersey after it was found that its Linden and Bayonne refineries had been polluting the
surrounding environment (Snow, 2015). The case initially brought forth an $8.9 billion lawsuit
against ExxonMobil for polluting wetlands and bodies of water, but was negotiated and
eventually settled between the two parties (Dawsey, 2015). While the financial impact of this
lawsuit is clear, it is also important to note that these standards exist to protect the welfare of
ecosystems and the people and animals who live in them. Government regulation has been

Malvolio and the Way he is Treated in William Shakespeare s The Twelfth Night
Malvolio is an extremely complicated and difficult character to study because of his mixed,
complex personality. At times in the play he seems very reliable and loyal but sometimes he seems
foolish and weak, and in many scenes in the play the audience are encouraged to laugh at him, his
actions or his words. He is not portrayed as a lovable character, which makes the play funnier.
Also, the way that Malvolio seems humourless actually makes him humorous. Just Malvolio s

So, from being rude and offensive earlier on in the scene to Feste, he is now obedient and loyal.
Malvolio could, at this point, be called two faced. His personality changes depending on whom he

Act II Scene 2 consists of a conversation between Malvolio and Viola/Cesario. Malvolio seems
very proud and pleased to be telling Viola/Cesario that Olivia does not want him to bring messages
from Orsino any more. Of course he does not realise that the implications of this message are
actually the complete opposite! He says:
And one thing more, that you never be so hardy to

Malvolio is then rude and selfish to Viola/Cesario because he obviously feels that he is more

In the next scene, Act II Scene 3 Sir Toby and Sir Andrew are drinking, they persuade Feste to

Insanity Defense Expectation
Feeling ill? Commit a crime, you are protected!
Criminal verdicts are always being watched by our community because citizens seek protection by
law enforcement. Although the criminal justice system has established a foundation which is
expected to promote public safety and punishment of criminals, they do not always live up to that
capacity. One aspect of this is the insanity defense expectation. Verdicts are revealed after
analyzations of criminals intent to commit crimes are determined. If it is proven that a person had
no knowledge or sanity in committing a crime or breaking a law, that person will not be punished
nor charged as a criminal. I strongly disagree with this method of decisions by our judicial system.

Literacy and competency are essential to these criminal investigations. Any false allegations,
misjudgment or misunderstanding of the case can set a criminal free within seconds. The layman
claims that sane men are escaping responsibility for their crimes on the plea of insanity by reason
of the venality of experts, the strong and corrupt partisanship of counsel for the refense, and the
incompetency of the judge and the prosecuting attorney (Insanity and Criminal Responsibility).
There are many individuals who are involved in the sanctions of these cases and although they
maintain proper credibility, the cases will prosper according to their beliefs and findings. It is
understood that mental health professionals, physicians and psychologists stand ground in front of
the jury with hopes of proving the individual sane or insane. The insanity defense traces its roots
back to the 1843 assassination attempt on British Prime Minister Robert Peel. In this case, a
psychotic individual named Daniel M Naghten intentionally and with premeditation killed an
assistant to a prime minister of England because he believed he was being persecuted. The
defendant plead insanity at the trial. The prosecution attempted to prove sanity by illustrating M
Nagten s behavior in planning and executing the attack. Several physicians testified as to the
defendant s even though they never examined the defendant; their conclusions were based on

Portrayal Of Women In The Odyssey
The portrayal of women in society and literature is known to be sexist and male dominated. The
Odyssey by Homer, translated by Robert Fagles, has similar portrayal of women and it presents
women as deceiving in many cases, as well as, their subservience. From a feminist perspective, one
would agree that women in The Odysseycompared to the men are deceptive and very dependent on
the males in their families, including their husbands. The men, however, are demonstrated as
independent and as the protectors of the household, while the women are forced to stay. To begin
with, women in The Odyssey are portrayed as deceptive in several situations. For example, Circe
and Odysseusmen. Circe was deceiving to Odysseus men by luring them in with her voice,
poisoning them, and then holding them captive (Book 10, lines 242 254). Not only were some
of the women deceiving, but all women were perceived that way by men. When Hermes told
Calypso, by the orders of Zeus, to let Odysseus leave she confronted him and told him to go, but
he hesitated because of the thought of her deceiving him (Book 5, 125 199). Now I am
willing...to send you off at last... (Book 5, line 179). Odysseus responded to Calypso by saying,
Passage home? I won t set foot on a raft until you show me good faith, until you consent to swear,
goddess, a binding oath you ll never plot some new intrigue to harm me! (Book 5, lines 192 199).
This shows that even though women are trying to help men think one of their

Ballad Of Narayama Analysis
The Ballad of Narayama is a Japanese film of great beauty and elegant artifice, telling a story of
startling cruelty. What a space it opens up between its origins in the kabuki style and its subject of
starvation in a mountain village! The village enforces a tradition of carrying those who have
reached the age of 70 up the side of mountain and abandoning them there to die of exposure.
Keisuke Kinoshita s 1958 film tells its story with deliberate artifice, using an elaborate set with a
path beside a bubbling brook, matte paintings for the backgrounds, mist on dewey evenings, and
lighting that drops the backgrounds to black at dramatic moments and then brings up realistic
lighting again. Some of its exteriors use black foregrounds and bloody red skies; others use grays
and blues. As in kabuki theater, there is a black clad narrator to tell us what s happening.
This artifice supports a story that contains great emotional charge. Kinuyo Tanaka plays Orin, a
70 year old widow whose resignation in the face of her traditional fate is in stark contrast with
the behavior of her neighbor Mata (Seiji Miyaguchi), who protests violently against his destiny.
Their family attitudes are similarly opposed; while Orin s son Tatsuhei (Teiji Takahashi) loves
his mother and doesn t have any desire to carry her up the mountainside, Mata s family has
already cut off his food, and he wanders the village as a desperate scavenger; Orin invites him in
and offers him a bowl of rice, which be gobbles

The Availability Of New Information Management And...
The availability of new information management and supporting system like Data Warehousing,
Business Intelligence, Analytics, and/or Big Data has produced a remarkable moment in the history
of data analysis. Researching on this topic is very interesting for me. Thank Professor Kraft that
gives me opportunity to explore more on these topics. Taking this opportunity, I would like to
provide a brief summary of the book that discuss about the Profitable Data Warehousing, Business
Intelligenceand Analytics. The book published by Technics Publications in July 1, 2012. I also
would like to thank David Haertzen who is an author of the book.
In the book, the author has discussed many interesting points but the three main points that I learn

It involves business information and analysis that support strategic decision making, and lead to
improved business performance. Decisions based on Business Intelligence and Analytics can
impact the bottom line by reducing cost and increasing revenues.
According to Haertzen (2012), Enterprise Data Warehousing (EDW) is a process for collecting,
storing, and delivering decision support data for an entire enterprise or business unit . A data
warehouse is not operational data. It contains a copy of operational and other data, rather than
being a source of original data. This data is often obtained from multiple data sources and is useful
for strategic decision making. Its purpose is not just to maintain historical data. A data warehouse
contains specific data that has been gathered for analytics and reporting. Enterprise Data
Warehousing includes people, processes, and technologies to achieve the goal of providing
decision support. The Data Warehouse contains intelligent data collections which are modeled to
support the reporting and analysis needs of the Decision Support function of the organization. So,
the main key goals of data warehouse are: Make fact based decisions, Make timely decisions, Make
profitable decisions that reduce costs and increase revenue. These decisions can support a number
of stakeholders include: Customers, Employees, Shareholders, Suppliers,

Use Of Irony In The Gift Of The Magi
Emma Hayes
Mrs. Rude
Honors English 1
3 October 2014
Everybody loves Christmas. The suspense of not knowing what is under the wrapping paper
drives us absolutely wild. The joy of spending time with family, friends, and your significant other
is the best! But why do loved ones give each other gifts? In O Henry s short story The Gift of the
Magi, two young lovers sacrifice their own most prized possessions to get the other a Christmas
gift. Ironically, each one gets the other a gift to be used for their prized possession; however, the
gifts cannot be used because they no longer have any use. Author O Henry uses irony to enhance,
or magnify, the true meaning of Christmas: to selflessly give to someone you love to show your
love for them.

Even though Della and Jim made unwise choices in how to finance their gifts for one another,
they were the wisest in the sense that they sacrificed their own most prized possessions to give
to the other. And here I have related to you the uneventful chronicle of two foolish children in a
flat who most unwisely sacrificed for each other the greatest treasures of their house. (Page 251)
The narrator claims that Della and Jim unwisely gave up their valuables to display their love for
one another. But in a last word to the wise of these days, let it be said that of all who gives gifts
there two were the wisest. Of all who give and receive gifts such as they are wisest. Everywhere
they are the wisest. They are the magi. (Page 251) The whole theme of the story is stated here
by the narrator. He alludes to the Magi, or wisemen who bring the best gifts, but the narrator
stated that Jim and Della gave the best gift of all, and they are wiser than the Magi. Besides the
fact that Jim and Della were wise to sacrifice their own prized possessions for each other, the way
that they handled the situation and still loved each other after shows true wisdom. After all,
Christmas is about loving your loved

The Purpose Driven Rick Warren
What is your Purpose?
Why does one wake up in the morning? Why does one go to work or school? Why are people
here on Earth? What is each person s purpose? Why have humans walked this Earth for so long?
Human s are alive cause some magical spirit believed each individual could do something
wonderful in his world. In the book The Purpose Driven Rick Warren, the author, is trying to tell
the people of the world know that no matter what type of situation you are in God is on your side.
He gave everyone a purpose and they have to go out and find it.
In The Purpose Driven God says Every human on this Earth has a purpose. Nobody was put here
by accident. Not all parents get to plan when they have their children, but God was ready for his
creation to come alive. The Bible states The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me. He knows exactly
how he wants his people to look. He also creates every individual s uniqueness and personality.
The Bible states You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know
exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Before ...

Everything in God s world is here for a reason. Some animals were made to fly, some were made
to jump, and some were created to be meals for the humans. Every creature has a purpose just like
humans do. Each individual was made for a specific ministry. Warren mentioned We are Gods
workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works. Each human was made to do something
different. Nobody was made to do the same job as someone else or create the same impact in the
same person s life. When a people are good at things they love to do that s a gift from God. He
wanted that individual to either be really good at the sport the play or be really good at school or
even be artistically talented. So called talents are your gift from God. That s where he wanted his

Everyone Doesn T Be Equal In Harrison Bergeron
Out of around 7.347 billion people in the world, there is not one person who is the exact same. We
all have physical differences, we all talk differently, think differently, we have different interests,
motivated differently, different drives, desires, we all have different goals and dreams.
One can ask can an Equal society exist? Is it possible?
According to the fact that everyone is different in many ways, it isn t possible for everyone to be
equal. According to the story Harrison Bergeron all humans can never truly be equal. We see in the
beginning of the story the reader learns that the gifted are handicapped, but the ability to reason

Increasing the Proportion of Adults at a Healthy Weight
As the world is changing dramatically in terms of the technology that was available a couple of
decades ago, so are the health challenges and threats that we are facing. In the 1980s, the major
public health problems were related to the wide spread presence of infectious diseases. However,
in today s world, the focus has shifted from infectious diseases to chronic diseases. As we dig
deeper into understanding the etiology of the chronic diseases, we notice that obesity has an
association with a lot of them.
To reverse this trend, the Healthy People 2020 has set Increasing the Proportion of Adults at a
Healthy Weight as one of its objectives. Some of the factors that are believed to effect obesity and
overweight are physical activity status and eating healthy. Here, we will be looking at two studies
that have tried to understand people s beliefs and motivation to address this objective.
The first of the two studies was on the association of social support and Body Mass Index (BMI),
on African American women from rural Deep South, conducted by Johnson ER et al. The two
interventions that were looked up at in this study are healthy eating, and exercising. The second
study was about the perceived neighborhood attributes and BMI, among 12

Hopefully, bank loan is not the only source of funding available; friends and family savings may
help a business project too. Alternative finance methods are the peer to peer lending and the
invoice financing, the equity finance and the government grants. However, any prospected
businessman has to be really careful to choose the most appropriate funding body for its
business since any source of funding you may choose has different advantages and
disadvantages. It seems that when people lack any other source of financing, they ask their
family or their close friends to contribute in order to develop their business plans. According to
Curran and Blackburn (1993), family loans account for some 15 percent of start up finance,
amongst ethic owned businesses in the UK, making it the largest source of funds after the bank
loans (Basu et al., 2013: 333). One good reason to finance your business project in cooperation
with your family or friends is the increased feeling of liability. This will definitely help you to
develop your own skills, responsibilities and a long standing character. On the other hand, family
finance can be a really dangerous option if momentous clashes suddenly appear between family
members. The family bank and family relationships will eventually be damaged or destroyed
(Babcock, 2013).
Another popular financial method is the peer to peer lending. A type of lending which matches

A Look Into Game Theory Essay
The origins of Game Theory trace back to a letter written by Francis Waldegrave in 1713 which
proposed a minimax mixed strategy solution to a two person card game named le Her. In the
following century Charles Darwin acted as one of the pioneers in broadening the realm of this
theory into the biology of evolution as he applied the theoretic strategy in his argument of natural
selection power to equalize the sex equilibrium ratio in nature. Game Theories initial applications
were restricted to two person zero sum games where the pay off matrix was symmetric, or in other
words that the sum of the payoffs to the two participants maintains a constant value. However,
modern adaptations of game theorycame into play after John von Neumann... Show more content on

If we apply the Nash equilibrium conditions into a situation where there exists an option for both
players to cooperate or to be non cooperative, and none of these participants are aware of the other
s decision, but still knows that she/he can choose either, we have started to establish conditions
ideal for the Prisoner s dilemma. Here each party will look to adapt a dominant strategy, one that
produces an outcome that is most beneficial to them regardless of the other party s strategy.
Although it would be advantageous to each party if they both chose to cooperate, a decision is
made when they each choose a non ideal outcome to protect themselves at the expense of the other
party. Here is where the paradox is made; each participant has followed a completely logical thought
process, yet finds themselves in a worse situation than the hypothetical situation in which they both
cooperated. The logic that brings about this outcome comes from the uncertainty in the other party
s decision.
The dilemma s that often arise in the world of dating are extremely applicable to such modes of
thinking. One of the most commonly occurring dilemma of dating and relationships is the
decision to cooperate or not in the face of any sort of mistreatment. Whether it is being stood up
on a date, or being lied to, the victim of the wrongdoing is faced with the decision of

Minor Consent In Adolescents
A third exception to minor consent is birth control. In the setting of contraception and sexual
healthcare, The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) believe that policies supporting adolescent
consent and protecting adolescent confidentiality are in the best interests of adolescents (AAP,
2014). The contraception pill is significant in reducing pregnancyrates, but can be contentious
when it comes to ethical, moral and religious views. It can also cause distress with parents when
they find out if parental consent is not required. This can be challenging for nurses who do not
understand state and federal laws and how they apply to minors and the use of birth control. The

What Was The Civil Rights Movement In The 1960 s
The 1960 s in the United States of America
The 1960s was a tumultuous time in politics, music, and pop culture. Sometimes it was called the
decade of discontent because there were riots and the Vietnam War was going on during this period.
The 60s were also an important time for the civil rights movement. Nicknamed the Rights
Revolution , many acts were passed in congress because of marches, riots, sit ins, and more. When
young Americans began to disagree with the older generation, their dissatisfaction came out through
the music they made. They also changed their culture by having longer hair, dressing differently,
and trying to stand out and speak their beliefs.
The 60s started out with John F. Kennedy becoming president, the first ... Show more content on

So many different iconic songs and artists came from this era, including Bob Dylan, Aretha
Franklin, the Beach Boys, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and so many more (Pitchfork). Some
popular music genres included British invasion, rock, motown, and R B. Although rock entered
the music industry in the 50s, it thrived in the 60s. There also started to be many different
subgenres of rock including surf rock (The Beach Boys), hard rock (The Rolling Stones), folk
rock/protest music (Simon and Garfunkel), and many others. Because of all of these popular
artists and groups, music festivals boomed. People went to all different kinds of festivals to see
their favorite artists (Pearson). The biggest song from the decade was a rock indebted dance
track called The Twist by Chubby Checker according to Billboard (The Top 20 Billboard Hot 100
Hits of the 1960s). Young adult s music was so different from their parents . Rock was loud and
disruptive, just like the young people of that generation that were fighting for civil rights. Their
music became their voice for a cultural revolution. During this time, the Beatles music started
gaining fame in Britain and then moving to the United States where they changed modern history
and music. The Beatles showed the U.S. how style could have the impact of a cultural revelation.
They embodied how America was changing drastically. Even Bob Dylan understood their
greatness as he once said to his biographer Anthony Scaduto, They were doing things nobody else
was doing, But I just kept it to myself that I really dug them. Everybody else thought they were just
for the teenyboppers, that they were gonna pass right away. But it was obvious to me that they had
staying power. I knew they were pointing the direction that music had to go. . . . It seemed

How the the atmosphere becomes polluted is from NOx s, SOx s and CO2. These source evaporate into the atmosphere and accumulate. North America has a wind pattern that moves from west to east so all the atmospheric pollution moves to the east. For a water system that had become far to acidic and nothing is living. A process called freshwater de acidification will spring the the water into becoming healthy again. The process starts with add the lime directly to the water body. However in the cases of certain lakes where the turnaround is very quick, the lime is added to the body of water. This has disadvantages though, the main one being that the lime can have an adverse effect on wetland species of plants The advantages, however, are that the effects are longer lasting and metals are prevented from leaching into the lake water from the soil. The alkalinity of the limed lake is increased, the pH increased and heavy metal concentrations decrease back to within safe limits for fish life. The number of species of fish, animals and plankton increases as does biomass production. The chemical equation for liming water is CaCO3(s) + H2SO4(aq) в‡Ё CaSO4*2H2O + CO2(g). If your soil or forest becomes too acidic a process called liming will help. Soil pH is a measure of the relative acidity or alkalinity in soils. It is a fundamental chemical property because it influences the availability of nutrients and the solubility of elements like aluminum and manganese, which are detrimental to crop ... • 3. Edward Jenner and the Cowpox Vaccine Most parents trust their pediatrician or family doctor more than anyone when it comes to the health of their child. However, many parents are beginning to question their doctor s advice when it comes to vaccinating their children. After countless accusations of harmful effects of childhood vaccinations, some parents have decided to stop having their child vaccinated, putting not only their child, but the entire human population in danger. In 1796, Edward Jenner created a vaccine developed from the cowpox virus. He then gave this vaccine to a 13 year old boy who was suffering from smallpox. The boy became immune to the smallpox disease and Jenner was named the founding father of vaccinations. After his discovery, vaccines were later created for Cholera, Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis, and Polio ( A Brief History ). Vaccines were developed in order to trick the body into making antibodies ( Understanding ). Using germs that are similar, but not harmful, to the disease a vaccine is trying to prevent, vaccines are able to mimic body responses by creating memory in the T and B helper cells that can help the body fight diseases before one develops symptoms of the illness ( Vaccines and Your Health ). The government supports and enforces vaccine use because it can take weeks for the body to naturally create enough antibodies to fight diseases, and therefore, it is dangerous to rely only on natural immunity ( Understanding ). The controversy regarding vaccinations originated after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Surging since the creation of Facebook which now has over one billion active users. These social networks are services that allow individuals to create an online profile and create their own group of friends with whom to share a connection. They also allow users to share ideas, pictures/videos, posts, events, activities and their interests with people in their chosen network. There are many different social networks providing the same basic service to anyone who wishes to use them, but also bringing the same problems and risks. Trends indicate that 47 percent of American adults use a social network. A national survey in 2009 found that 73 percent of online teenagers use social network sites, which is an increase from 55 percent three years earlier. It s no wonder our real world social lives are seeing some changes. We once used to communicate with a single person by telephone or letter; writing has now become a very social way of communicating although it was once a solitary activity. Now, with one post we can reach thousands of people. Personal barriers are quickly broken down through the use of social media. • 5. If Not For Purchasing Some Mint Oil At The Apothecary If not for purchasing some mint oil at the apothecary, Morgana might have spun around and interrupted the conversation going on behind her between two men, whose loud voices indicated they thought the world ought to hear their opinions. ...and who would have expected it? said one. Excellent news, of course; Camelot boasts some rare fine wines I ve been longing to plunder for years! Rare fine wines, indeed. She pretended to glance around, quickly taking note of the men in question. One, perhaps the one who had just spoken, was scratching his beard with a conspiratorial air, as though he had signed the Treaty himself. The second, impossibly thin for his age, had a stoop to his shoulders and rough skin. The thin man nodded. Indeed! I rather feared there would be no peace given their history, and what with that mad woman on the run... Oh, she hasn t been seen since Ismere, don t worry about that... ...trying to steal the Throne of Camelot, who on earth does she think she is? Morgana took a deep breath and forced herself to stare at the ostentatious hat of a man standing not far forward. These men, probably merchants, cared for nothing but the continuation of their business with minimal disturbance, so of course her frequent declarations of war against Camelot were inconvenient. Fine. They could be forgiven for misunderstanding that rather than stealing Camelot s Throne, she was simply reclaiming her rightful inheritance. Once they understood the righteousness ... • 6. Communication in American Literature Essay example American literature has changed since the industrial revolution. As a child matures into an adult, so has American literature grown to include the problems faced in reality. The word fiction transformed from the fairy tales of romanticism to the reality of realism in America. Authors such as: Clemens, Howells, Chopin, Eliot, Faulkner, and Anderson have all assisted the move from dreams to reality. Dramatists O neill and Miller have written plays that have changed the way social circumstances are viewed by Americans. Americans, as portrayed by American writers, have been plagued with an inability to communicate feelings through speech, yet from the industrial revolution to post second World War, American writers have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I studied a minute, sort of holding my breath, and then says to myself: All right, then, I ll go to hell (Clemens 168). The dilemma of whether to turn in a runaway slave grips Huck s heart, and like most all human beings the struggle is not put into words to others, but is sounded silently within. Clemens understood realism, and placed an emphasis on a social issue burning hot in his day. He took a fictional character and gave him a mind, and let the audience, the reader, view his expression of communication within himself. Words communicate thoughts, yet thoughts in fictional realism are the expressions of characters that cannot express their thoughts into words. Clemens barely scratched the surface depicting the problems with communicating in America. W.D. Howells, a realist, focused his works on the here and now, the immediacy of time, and critical social issues. In Howells text s, human beings are exposed as creatures of thought, not expression. Alan Trachtenburg, author of The Incorporation of America, spoke of Howells as a writer who was notorious for creating fictions of fact rather than fable (202). Trachtenburg also quotes Howells as saying, Realists want to know the world as it really is, to create a world of fiction congruent with real life (184). Howell s realism depicts characters unable to communicate their feelings and feeling unfulfilled in their attempts to express themselves. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are two approaches to calculate the call price for each option, black scholes and binominal pricing. In addition, the current stock price, exercise price, time of option, annualized interest rate, and the riskiness of the stock are the inputs for either approach. • 8. Nazi Germany And The Nazi Party Throughout Nazi Germany in the period 1928 through to 1941, racism was utilized by Hitler, and in turn his Nazi party, firstly to secure Hitler s position as a dictator, and secondly to unite the German people against a common enemy, which would lead to a united powerful state, ready and able to exert its national will. Whether or not his aims were oppressive in nature is debatable but, his aims for racial purification and domination over Eastern Europe are made obvious before Hitler s assumption of power, primarily in the racist crude writings of Mein Kampf, and even from Moellers Des drittes Reich from the 1920s. It can be said, therefore, though Hitler may not have been successful in achieving an oppressive state, he may certainly have desired it. Constantly, it is made obvious, through his use of racism in both Domestic and foreign policy that Hitler s ultimate aim, was total power, both for himself and his master race the Volksgeminschaft. Hitler s use of racism is continually evident from the beginning of his comings to power, through till his attack on the Soviet Union in June of 1941. Managed care conglomerates provide health coverage for increasing numbers of Americans. Many critics question whether these businesses provide care dutifully. At the very least, the present managed care system requires health care providers and recipients to reexamine established principles underling physician patient interaction. In the United States, four main principles undergird the way health care is practiced. These principles are: beneficence, nommaleficence, autonomy and justice. Beneficence is the obligation of health care providers to render help to people in need. Just as health care workers are called to provide care, they also have a duty to do no harm. This principle is commonly called nonmaleficence. At times, the possibility of doing good may result in injury. Therefore, the principle of beneficence and nonmaleficence do not always concur. Thirdly, the principle of autonomy allows patients to make choices regarding their health care. In other words, health care providers should allow patients to make the final decision regarding their treatment plan. Finally, justice refers to the ethical concept of treating everyone in a ... • 12. Essay On Voter Turnout Voting constitutes the backbone of Democracy Voter Turnouts in Canada: Restoring a Civic Duty Grant Macewan University December 6th 2011 Political Science 101 Term Paper In a democratic system it is vital that citizens engage in their civic duty of voting; only then can a proper governing body be chosen to represent the will of the majority. Abraham Lincoln got to the core of democracy when he stated, the government of the people, by the people and for the people. In the last 50 years of Canadian history we have begun to see a decline in voter turnout; ranging from 80% of citizens voting in 1962, gradually dwindling to 59.1% in the year 2008 (Dickerson, Flanagan amp; O Neill, 2010). It is important to understand why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the greatest factors in deciding which Member of Parliament many voters will trust with representing them is the level of confidence they have in the political leader. Confidence is the greatest of all voter assets for it requires knowledge of the leader s platform, and the platform of the opposition. Political scientists have made tremendous efforts in discovering what factors influence the voting turnouts. Irrefutably within any country, older citizens and those with higher education and income are more likely to participate in elections; this possibly explains the partisanship, a method of the ill informed, displayed along the east coast, for the educational requirements attributed to these provinces are less than the Canadian national average (Garnier , 2006). When an election has closely contested parties there is a higher voter turnout, for citizens believe that their votes will make more of a difference. In Canada it has been proven that citizens are more likely to vote in national elections than in municipal elections; municipal elections typically garner less than 50% of the voting populace s support, while national elections have never experienced less than a 60% turnout (Heard, 2011). Proportional representation has been associated with higher voter turnouts; as opposed to Single member plurality systems, the system used in Canada, where voters feel their efforts to make a difference are futile due to the First ... I think that social media is a good thing because you can have so much fun on it and even make friends on in. Without that you would be limited to the kids in your neighborhood and in some places there are not a lot of kids that you can make friends with or they do not live close so you have to drive there. That is all fixed with social media. Like recently I have found some friends on social media that I play games with. They are super nice and without social media I would have never had that experience I would have to play be myself all the time and have no one to talk to. But now I have the chance to make friends and have fun with them even tho they live far away. Also colleges and most jobs look at your social media account to see what kind of person you are and if you are able to work so not only can you have fun but you can also potentially make money from it and you can make friends. • 18. Argumentative Essay On Global Warming GLOBAL WARMING Global warming is an increase of Earth s temperature throughout a period of time. Global warming is a disease that is one of the root causes of Earth s illness. This invisible change has a lot of drastic effects on mankind, wildlife as well as nature. The reasons to these destructions are humans themselves. There are some very obvious ways to tackle the situation. Many of the extraordinary weather changes since the 1950 s are recorded in the instrumental temperature record which stretches out to the mid 19th Century while having thousands of years according to the Paleoclimate Proxy Records [IPCC Climate]. Temperature across the whole world is predicted to change throughout this century and continuing. The Earth s ability to tackle the emission of heat trapping gases, as well as the amount of gases released will predict the magnitude of global climate change [NASA]. Scientists are sure that global temperatures will continue to rise for decades to come, largely due to greenhouse gases produced by human activities. 2.5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit of temperature rise is predicted over the next century by a group of 1300 scientists of The Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change (IPCC) from the United States[IPCC]. Climate change will have different effects on different regions depending on the adapting ability with time, of that region, said IPCC. A 1 to 3 degree Celsius increase in global temperature will have deadly consequences in some region and propitious one in other regions. Net annual costs will increase over time as global temperatures increase [NASA]. Now let us move into more detailed information. Climate change has a lot of effects on the rise of sea levels. Average sea level around the world rose about 8 inches (20 cm) in the past 100 years; climate scientists expect sea levels to rise more and more rapidly in the next 100 years as a part of climate change impact. The number of floods per year has already increased in many coastal cities such as New York and they may need to build a wall between the sea and the town to protect them from the sea by the mid 21st Century. In short, the disappearance of a keystone species would start a domino effect other species in the habitat would also decline and become extinct. The keystone species disappearance could affect other species that rely on it for survival. Two examples of important keystone species in their communities are: starfish and sea otters. More specifically, these species are found in the Pacific Northwest, but impact their communities in different ways. The starfish is a keystone species sometimes found in the Northwest intertidal zones. An intertidal zone is also known as the seashore, and is the area that is above water at low tide, and underwater at high tide. Interval recording is flexible and provides useful data particularly for off task behaviour. It is broken down into intervals or blocks of time, and observations are marked separately for each interval. Since we would like to get Joey to be on task, we want to know how long each type of behaviour lasts (on/off), we will therefore require a method to ensure each duration. Another consideration is to make it as easy as possible since the teacher is busy and has other students to consider (ear bud, please see materials). Lastly, but importantly, we need the information to be useful to our particular situation as our goal for Joey is to be on task most or all the time. The Importance Of Property Rights Of Native Americans In today s society when thinking of Civil rights, or those whose rights have been taken advantage of, what is the first minority that comes to mind? For me, I have learned about the abuse towards African Americans and their history as slaves. Most people don t think of Native Americans. Most people do not relate Native American issues with modern times. Native Americans are at the bottom of most economic structures and have been since the beginning of time. I chose to demonstrate how the majority of the Native American tribes are suffering in terms of social, economic and intellectual standards due to lack of property rights. Native Americans deserve the same rights as other American citizens. Solutions that help the Native Americans gain property rights can aid in the issues that are affecting their everyday life. The property rights of Native Americans have been abused since the beginning of Early colonization. Beginning with Columbus and other early settlers, the Native Americans were driven from their land and many were enslaved. Europeans used an International law, the Doctrine of Discovery, to claim the lands of America. Europeans used the term terra nullius, empty land, to define an area inhabited by people who were not subject to international law nor belong to a recognized nation. The American Indians did not qualify, so the settlers made claim to the land (Crepelle 317). When the early settlers came to the Americas, the Native Americans helped them learn to ... • 29. Snail Host Compatibility General concept of snail host compatibility in schistosome infection It is conceptualised that digenean trematodes were primitively parasites of molluscs; they only later learned to utilise vertebrate hosts as a result of evolutionary host switching (Muller and Wakelin, 2002; Lockyer et al., 2004). Nevertheless, transmission of vector borne parasites is eminently dependent on the degree of vector susceptibility. In a vector parasite system, compatibility occurs when the parasite is capable of infecting and being transmitted through the vector and this compatibility is often at the specie or strain level for both parasite and vector (Lockyer et al., 2004; Perrin et al., 2013). Some historians whom take a totalitarian view such as McCauley suggest that it was Stalin s personality along side his progressive paranoia which played the key role and was responsible for the extent of the Great Purges in the 1930s.Whilst the some historians... This is evident in McCauley s emphasis on the idea that there was set targets in regards to the number of people that had to denounced in any given period. Ancient Rome, the Roman Colosseum Ancient Rome, The Roman Colosseum Historians have always used great structures from the ancient world to find out information about the kind of lives they used to live. The Colosseum in Ancient Rome, Italy was one of the most famous structures. The Colosseum in Rome gives historians a number of insights to the type of civilization that existed during the time of the ancient empire, through the gory battles and violent games that took place. The emperors bought their popularity through free entertainment and corn for the spectators which lead to the emperor buying the peoples votes (Hopkins, 2011). The magnificent amphitheatre entertained the roman public becoming an international emblem and propaganda tactic used by emperors to improve their political careers. The economic benefit that the Colosseum had for Rome was enormous. The Colosseum provided many jobs for the citizens of Rome; including work as ticket sellers, architects, merchants, slaves, cleaners, curtain pullers, soldiers (crowd control), musicians, gladiators, animal trainers, sand layers, engineers etc. (DeLasCasas, 2007). It also assisted the economy as it provided opportunities for money to move around the different class levels as merchants sold many assets at the games. Another way that money came into the Ancient Roman economy was through gambling, people would win and lose fortunes at the games similar to the way people bet on today s sporting events. According to DeLasCasas, 2007, when the Colosseum was closed in 399 AD the Roman economy suffered as it meant no jobs for a number of citizens, which lead to them not being able to provide for their families and this lead to poverty. To begin with, I ll examine Frankl s theory of existential analysis known as logotherapy. We are meant to become our truest selves by finding meaning in our lives, which, according to Frankl, can come from three places: work, love, and our attitude in the face of horrific suffering or difficulty. And at the center of this meaning is our responsibility and human right to choose. In Frankl s theory, we all strive to fulfill a self chosen goal, from which meaning has the potential to be found. And if no meaning is found, there is meaning yet to be found, or meaning to be drawn from the apparent lack of meaning. Whatever the case, Frankl viewed man s lack of meaning as the greatest existential crisis, the stress of this meaninglessness giving life and shape to all of our neuroses. This will to meaning is the culmination of our developmental process. To cultivate an individual s capacity to find meaning in their life is the greatest goal, and the source of mankind s anxiety and neuroses. We all wish to find the meaning within our life, and are unfulfilled when we miss the mark. But according to Frankl, there is always meaning in life, in every single moment, from one to the next we all are capable of making a choice about ourselves, and beyond that, have a responsibility to do so. Even with the transitory nature of our existence and hopelessness in the face of certain death, there is still meaning to be found, there is still freedom to be earned. ExxonMobil agreed to pay $225 million to the state of New Jersey after it was found that its Linden and Bayonne refineries had been polluting the surrounding environment (Snow, 2015). The case initially brought forth an $8.9 billion lawsuit against ExxonMobil for polluting wetlands and bodies of water, but was negotiated and eventually settled between the two parties (Dawsey, 2015). Literacy and competency are essential to these criminal investigations. Any false allegations, misjudgment or misunderstanding of the case can set a criminal free within seconds. The layman claims that sane men are escaping responsibility for their crimes on the plea of insanity by reason of the venality of experts, the strong and corrupt partisanship of counsel for the refense, and the incompetency of the judge and the prosecuting attorney (Insanity and Criminal Responsibility). There are many individuals who are involved in the sanctions of these cases and although they maintain proper credibility, the cases will prosper according to their beliefs and findings. It is understood that mental health professionals, physicians and psychologists stand ground in front of the jury with hopes of proving the individual sane or insane. The insanity defense traces its roots back to the 1843 assassination attempt on British Prime Minister Robert Peel. In this case, a psychotic individual named Daniel M Naghten intentionally and with premeditation killed an assistant to a prime minister of England because he believed he was being persecuted. The Odyssey by Homer, translated by Robert Fagles, has similar portrayal of women and it presents women as deceiving in many cases, as well as, their subservience. From a feminist perspective, one would agree that women in The Odysseycompared to the men are deceptive and very dependent on the males in their families, including their husbands. The men, however, are demonstrated as independent and as the protectors of the household, while the women are forced to stay. To begin with, women in The Odyssey are portrayed as deceptive in several situations. For example, Circe and Odysseusmen. Circe was deceiving to Odysseus men by luring them in with her voice, poisoning them, and then holding them captive (Book 10, lines 242 254). Not only were some of the women deceiving, but all women were perceived that way by men. What a space it opens up between its origins in the kabuki style and its subject of starvation in a mountain village! The village enforces a tradition of carrying those who have reached the age of 70 up the side of mountain and abandoning them there to die of exposure. Keisuke Kinoshita s 1958 film tells its story with deliberate artifice, using an elaborate set with a path beside a bubbling brook, matte paintings for the backgrounds, mist on dewey evenings, and lighting that drops the backgrounds to black at dramatic moments and then brings up realistic lighting again. Some of its exteriors use black foregrounds and bloody red skies; others use grays and blues. As in kabuki theater, there is a black clad narrator to tell us what s happening. This artifice supports a story that contains great emotional charge. Kinuyo Tanaka plays Orin, a 70 year old widow whose resignation in the face of her traditional fate is in stark contrast with the behavior of her neighbor Mata (Seiji Miyaguchi), who protests violently against his destiny. Their family attitudes are similarly opposed; while Orin s son Tatsuhei (Teiji Takahashi) loves his mother and doesn t have any desire to carry her up the mountainside, Mata s family has already cut off his food, and he wanders the village as a desperate scavenger; Orin invites him in and offers him a bowl of rice, which be gobbles ... Here each party will look to adapt a dominant strategy, one that produces an outcome that is most beneficial to them regardless of the other party s strategy.
