Allders Target Market
During its heyday Allders was one of the biggest department stores of its kind in the UK.
Founded over 150 years ago in 1862 by Joshua Allder in Croydon, Allders started out as a linen
and draper mercer. By the time Joshua Allder passed away in 1904, the store had grown
considerably. The shop had expanded and so too did the range of items it sold; from
haberdashery to china and porcelain items too. In 1908 Allders was sold to J.W. Holdron and F.C.
Bearman, who continued to develop the store creating 50 departments, before selling the business
in 1921. In the late 1950 s Allders came under the ownership of United Drapery Stores and
continued to expand and provide an ever increasing range of items, with a ВЈ3 million turnover in
the early 1960s.

Patriot Archetyp Context
The Patriot is a heart breaking movie that follows the journey of Benjamin Martin, a father of
seven children (Gabriel, Thomas, Margaret, Susan, Nathan, Samuel, and William) and an ex
warrior who fought against the British army during the Revolutionary War, while carrying the
burden of a parent. It is filled with clash of ideals, where Benjamin s priority to save his children
from experiencing the bitter taste of war met with the reality that his country needed him to act.
The story began with Benjamin s return to his hometown. The members of the family were
introduced one by one. The situation between the Continental Army and the England government
was revealed to be getting more complicated each days, as the town s people were being forced to
pick side for the upcoming war. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lord Cornwallis retreated to another area, only to be completely defeated later, indicating the
falling action of the story. He went back to his village along with his children and Charlotte to start
their life over, marking the resolution of the movie.
The Patriot is situated in at least three different archetypal settings. The first one is the underworld
/hell, as can be seen from the battlefield, where the blood of the innocents were spilt. The next one
is the garden, which is pictured as Benjamin s village, after the war is over. And the third one is
the castle, which the slaves village that Benjamin s family ran to fit the image of.
We can also conclude the symbol that can be derived from the movie is the national flag of the
United States of America. It can be seen from the battle scene when the Continental Army was
pushed back by the Great Britain Army. Benjamin took over the flag from one of the retreating
soldier and continued to fight, gained the upper hand of the fight and ended up winning the war.
The flag here can be interpreted as the symbol of power, courage, and

Biography of Jorge Chavez
Jorge Chavez is considered in Peru, the country where I was born, a hero for being the first man
who attempted to fly across the Alps. Although he didn t manage to meet his objective because his
BlГ©riot XI crashed upon landing, the bravery and courage he exhibited while he was alive were
determinants to his career success. Therefore, in the present paper, I intend to highlight Chavez
aeronautical achievements and, likewise, explain how he became fascinated in aviation.
Jorge Chavez, a Peruvian Born in Paris
Jorge Chavez Dartnell was born on June 13, 1887 in Paris, France. His parents, Don Manuel
Chavez and Maria Rosa Moreyra Dartnell y Guisse, were forced to migrate to Europe due to the
war fought in 1879 between Chile and Peru. Chavez ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paulhan immediately recognized that the young engineer had the ideal characteristics to become an
aviator, but before he had the opportunity to invite him to join his team, Chavez requested to
become a member. Naturally, Louis Paulhan accepted his proposal, which allowed Jorge Chavez to
participate in multiple competitions as an observer. Later, when Paulhan entered into partnership
with Henri Farman, a French aviator and aircraft designer, Chavez also took part in the association.
As a result, the Peruvian airman was admitted in the prestigious Farman Flight School as a student
pilot. Nevertheless, he first had to sign a contract in which he agreed to purchase an airplane built
by the Farman Company, as well as to participate in air competitions.
Obtaining His First World Record
According to Hard Matthews, the writer of Pioneer Aviators of the World , Chavez had been a
formidable soccer player and was already well known when he took up flying in December, 1909.
He managed to obtain his license NВ°32, issued by the AГ©ro Club de France , five days after his
solo flight in February 1910. In order to test his skills, the last day of February, he took his Farman
biplane aloft for nearly two hours, flying until he finally ran out of fuel.
By early April, Chavez had won his first prizes flying at an aviation meeting in Nice. After that, the

American National Insurance Co., as any other insurance company, faces with a risk of litigation and
regulatory investigations including the risk of class action lawsuits, which may result in significant
financial losses and harm its reputation. In connection with their insurance operations, plaintiffs
lawyers may bring lawsuits, including class actions, alleging, among other things, issues relating to
sales or underwriting practices, claims payments and procedures, product design, disclosure,
administration, additional premium charges for premiums paid on a periodic basis, denial or delay
of benefits, and breaches of fiduciary or other duties to customers. [2] Plaintiffs might request
substantial amounts to be paid including punitive and treble damages. These damages could result
in a material adverse effect on company s business, financial condition, results of operation and
reputation. For example, American National was a defendant in a lawsuit related to the alleged
inducement of another company s insurance agents to become agents of American National. The
jury reached a verdict adverse to American National, in the total amount of approximately $63.4
million, of which approximately $60.0 million represented punitive damages; however, the court
subsequently reduced the punitive damages award, resulting in a total award of approximately $7.1
million against American National. [2] Company has been facing with other various types

The Bull At The Palace Of Minos Essay
INTRODUCTION
One of the most captivating tales from Ancient Greece is that of King Minos of Crete and the
Minotaur, a beast half man and half bull. This legend, immortalised by modern films, has its
origins in the Aegean, at a time when the bull held a special place in society.
During excavations near Heraklion in Crete in 1990, English archaeologist Sir Arthur
Evans unearthed a massive structure built by a sophisticated Bronze Age civilisation.
Evans identified this as the Palace of King Minos in the ancient city of Knossos, inhabited by
people he called the Minoans. Evans excavations at Knossos revealed an extensive body of
evidence for the Minoan civilisation, an analysis of which proves the bull to be a significant
motif depicted on a range of iconographical media. The Australian Museum s latest exhibition,
Minotaur: The Bull at the Palace of Minos draws on this evidence to present different
representations of the bull at Knossos, as well as to communicate the significance of the bull to the
Minoans. The blockbuster, which is expected to run from April September 2018 will showcase
over 100 objects from the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, as well as integrate innovative digital
technologies to provide visitors with enjoyable immersive experiences. The following report
provides a detailed overview of the exhibition, beginning with an explanation of its value, content
and layout, before moving on to outline the target audience and visitor experience on offer.

Blackfish Documentary Techniques
In the documentary Blackfish , directed by Gabriela Cowperthawaite in 2013, is asking the
audience to take up a position on the inhumane treatment of whales in captivity. In particular, she
invites us to feel sympathy for the whales and anger toward SeaWorld cruelty and denial of
culpability. Cowperthawaite makes choices of visual image, language, sound and structure achieve
her outstanding outcomes.
She employs an effective range of visual techniques to create compassion for the miserable
creatures. Contrasting real footage of captive whale with bent fin; with wild whale s perpendicular
fin. It allows the audience to question the differences and makes us realise that SeaWorld is doing
something severely wrong that causes physical damage. This makes the audiences feel outraged by
its treatment as it is unfair, inhuman and cruel; furthermore, audiences are invited to feel
compassion for the unfortunate creature because they could not defend themselves.
Another powerful image that Cowperthwaite used to demonstrate vicious act on whale is when a
close up shot footage was used to illustrate scar and tooth marks on the whale back. This confirms
that captive whale from different community does not get along. This makes the audience ... Show

feel whales are dangerous and invites us to be terrified of them. The body of the documentary then

psychology and their behaviour. The end of the documentary, a footage of a whale swimming with
the community, which represent hope for the whales. By constructing a sequence like this, it makes
us feel aware, anger and compassion which is basically playing with our emotions and also that is

Within the memoir, Morrie and Mitch were the main rounded characters, while a flat character
was any character other than Mitch and Morrie such as their friends, family, and coworkers. If
the author could have developed some of the flat characters the reader would have profited from
their experiences. Of the flat characters, Morrie s family required the greatest need for the
development from flat to round since they spent the most time with Morrie and were most likely
suffering from more emotional pain than Mitch. However, considering Cameron s quote, if the
flat characters were to even be developed, then that may have taken away from the underlying
plot, theme, or even Morrie and Mitch s relationship. The point of view was exclusively
presented through Mitch. Mitch had the ability to communicate Morrie s perception, how Mitch
described himself, and how Mitch compared himself before and after Morrie s death. Mitch
described Morrie s personality and how he had felt about things by describing most of his earlier
experiences with Morrie and by describing his personality after Morrie had been diagnosed with
ALS. Throughout the memoir, Mitch characterized his personality as being a person who never

Does Nitric Acid Affect The Synthesis Of Nitroacetanilide
In this experiment, nitric acid and sulfuric acid were mixed to form nitronium ions, hydronium
ions, and hydrogen sulfate ions. The amide on the acetanilide is an electron donating group, an
activator, which means that when an activated electrophile is added to the acetanilide, it will add in
the ortho, para positions. In this case, the activated electrophile is the nitronium ions, which react
with the acetanilide and form an arenium ion. Then, the hydrogen sulfate ions pull off the hydrogen
that is attached to the same carbon as the nitronium ion, allowing the lone pair that is now on the
carbon the hydrogen left from to form a double bond with the electron deficient (positively charged)
carbon next to it. The products formed are the ortho and para substitutions of nitroacetanilide....

The crude solid was dissolved in hot ethanol and then, was allowed to cool. As the solution cooled
the solubility of the compounds in the solution drops, which allowed the nitroacetanilide to
recrystallize from the solution. The size of the crystals depends on the rate of cooling; a slower
cooling rate leads to the formation of larger crystals. In order to collect the crude solid and the
recrystallized solid, vacuum filtration was used. Vacuum filtration uses reduced pressure to force
the solution and air through the filter paper, allowing for the solid to

Handmaid Character Analysis
Throughout most of Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale, Moira is a character who refuses
to be beaten down and conform to the new society that Gilead had created. She is one of only
characters that is referred to by her real name, and this is because Moira never really becomes a
Handmaid like the others. In lieu of the passivity that the other Handmaid s come to have, she
fights back against the new system. Her resistance can be seen not only in her attitude while she
is a Handmaid, but in her two attempts at escape as well. Moira s refusal to conform to the
society that the Republic of Gilead created represents the rebellious spirit of humanity, as well as
how an oppressive society such as Gilead can break even the strongest of... Show more content on

This didn t change even after stricter rules were in place, as when Moira was first brought to the
gymnasium she wore a blue sweatshirt along with jeans, along with sporting a short haircut (71).
Once the Republic of Gilead was formed, the pressure to conform to society s new rules was
harshly enforced. However, this didn t stop Moira from continuing to rebel in whatever ways
that she was able. She was the polar opposite of what the majority of the Handmaids were like, as
all of the other Handmaids that have been introduced were seen to be very reserved and many
had even accepted their new role in life. These characteristics were the exact opposite of Moira s,
with her attempting to escape two times during her stint as a Handmaid. After Moira was caught
during her first attempt at escape, she was tortured severely. This was done by using steel cables
on both the feet and the hands, since these were seen as non essential parts of a Handmaid (91).
Although she was caught quickly in her first attempt at escape, the beatings that she endured only
fueled her desire to find a way out of this oppressive society even more. Along with her attempts
at escape, she fought against Gilead in a more subtle way, by showing true solidarity among her
fellow Handmaids. Although the Republic of Gilead was supposed to be about fostering this
solidarity among women, in reality it made all of the women suspicious of each other

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum publically showcases Mrs. Gardner s collection in the

the novel. Boo Radley is the type of guy to never leave his house. Many people see Boo as a

Military Should Be Mandatory Essay
In current times, roughly 99.5% of American citizens don t serve in the military in their lifetime.
But is something that needs to be changed by force? Some people could argue that service in the
United States military should be mandatory for everyone in reality, though, that is an impossible
and overall disastrous idea. Militaryservice is something that only some people can do not all
people can deal with the lasting effects of war, including many mental illnesses and Post

The majority of people in the United States would not be able to handle the stress, anxiety,
uncertainty, and other mental illnesses that go along with serving in the United States military.
According to Joel L. Young M.D. a medical doctor and a writer for Psychology Today mental health
issues are prominent in people who serve in the military. He writes, Almost a quarter of military
members have symptoms of at least one mental health condition, with more than 10% qualifying for
a diagnosis of two or more mental illnesses (Young 1). In other words, many people who serve in
the military have mental health problems. Consequently, if everyone in the U.S. was forced to
serve, these numbers would be substantially higher. Young also shows the reader how easily anxiety
is created in the military. He writes, Service members may not know what the future holds. They
wait to learn about life threatening deployments, new job assignments, and other life altering
transitions, impeding their ability to plan for the future and creating anxiety (Young 1). This means
that while soldiers are serving, they are unable to see what will be happening even in the near
future, causing major amounts of stress and anxiety. Although people could argue that if a
mandatory enlistment was instated that the government would make mental health treatment easier
to obtain, but often treatment cannot fully heal a

that the law of conservation of momentum was conserved in this scenario.
For the second collision in part one, the change in momentum from initial conditions to final

Athena A Virgin Mother
Can you believe that Athena was a virgin mother?! Her child s name was Erichthonius. The child
was born to Hephaestus and Gaia (nickname: Earth) and Athena chose to become a foster mother.
Athena was famous for her skill in Arts and Crafts like, spinning and weaving. She also invented
the Flute, the Trumpet, the Plow, a Chariot and a bridle which were made to tame horses. Athena
was known for her generosity and compassion, and she was also considered to be the Goddess of
the City because she protected civilian life. Greeks worshiped her because she was always so

The Theory And Social Control Theory
Evolution of Travis Hirschi
Travis Hirschi is an American criminologist who is famous for developing the self control
perspective on crime and social control perspective on juvenile delinquency. In his groundbreaking
work, Causes of Delinquency, he argued out that an explanation for delinquency can be achieved
by absence of social bonds. He also stated that delinquency could be prevented by social
attachments, acceptance of social norms, recognizing the moral validity of law and involvement in
conventional activities. In his other work with Michael R. Gottfredson, they defined crime as
fraudulent or forceful acts that are undertaken in order to achieve one s self interest. They also
argued that the explanation for all crime can be given as a combination of low self control and
criminal opportunity. While developing the perspective on delinquency and crime, Travis came up
with two theories named as the self control theory and social control theory.
The social control theory is built upon existing concepts of social control. It is positioned midst
other sociological theories that are aimed at the role of familial and social bonds as constrictions
on offending. The assertion of Hirschi s social control theory is that ties to the school, family and
other aspects of society help diminishing an individual s propensity for divergent behavior. It is,
therefore, the proposition of the social control theory that occurrence of crime results when there is
a weakness or poor

for launching their neem oil hair care products under the brand name Mira Neem.
Is Markt at risk and liable to NeemMiracle with respect to Trade Mark infringement, passing off,
misleading or deceptive conduct?
No Trade Mark infringement for two reasons;
a)The mark or get up being used by Markt only similar in colour and not necessarily name, the
word neem may be argued to be descriptive. and
b)NeemMiracle has not registered the trademark in either Australia or New Zealand.
There may be a case for passing off under common law and/or misleading and deceptive conduct
under S 18 ACL . An action in passing off deals only with misrepresentation, for an action in
passing off to be successful we can refer to the classical trinity . In the Jiff Lemon Case Lord
Oliver set out three tests for an action in passing off to be met. The classical trinity has been used
as a touchstone for passing off.
It can be argued that the getup of the Mira Neem product(s) is adopting a similar style or mark to
NeemMiracle with respect to choice of colour, font and naming of the product; further argued that
the confusing labelling of the product without any disclaimer may misrepresent the Mira Neem
product as part of the products currently produced and marketed by NeemMiracle.

Taming Of The Shrew Research Paper
In the play taming of the shrew and 10 things I hate about you, I believe relationships are shown
differently because in 10 things I hate about you relationships are shown through just dating out of
fun/ love instead of in taming of the shrew where it was about money and kind of an agreement
with the father and no choice for the women. This is seen in the relationships of Katherine and
Petruchio.
The difference between the relationship of Katherine and Petruchio in the play Taming Of the

Characterizing the morphology of the alluvial fan with the 1 meter DEM will help to further
delineate the evolution of the fan. Two profiles of the alluvial fan were analyzed by creating
traces along the alluvial fan seen in figure 3b and figure 3c. The elevation of figure 3b and figure
3c was traced with ArcGIS and calculated using MatLab. The cross sections of the alluvial fan
show the curvature of the fan morphology. These traces align in the west east direction shown in
figure 3b that corresponds to the profile of figure 11. Figure 3c alignment is in the north south
direction and corresponds to profile figure 12. Where the traces end, it marks the change of the
slope profile of the fan. It is difficult to see but the cross section from a to g starts out convex to

Office Automation System:
Office automation systems can take many forms, but their primary function remains the same
throughout, and that is to facilitate information exchange between people in an organization. Some
of these systems may include word processors, spreadsheets, email clients, file sharing systems,
databases, etc. The main benefit behind this type of technology is that the more freely that
information flows around an office, the more productive the environment is. With the increase in
production, the organization can raise its profits considerably as the efficiency of data exchange
increases, allowing a decrease in the time it takes to deliver the product to the customer. (Mills,

Impressionism And Contribution To Edouard Manet
Edouard Manet
Numerous art historians believe that the birth of modern art can be traced back to Edouard Manet.
Countless artists of note since Manet s time have been influenced by the legacy he left behind.
Manet completely deviated from the established artistic traditions, and invented a entirely new type
of painting. He was thought to be the frontrunner of the avant garde.
He introduced two new features to painting that changed art forever; the adaptation of the image
into a personal individual vision, which was completely at odds with existing art practices and the
recognition of the fundamental pretense of painting. Manet forged the between Realism and
Impressionism, which in turn encouraged many artists, in particular, the Impressionists ... Show

Manet felt that modern art should concern itself with everyday life. Modern artists could do this by
moving through the city, observing life as it occurs.
Manet moved to a new studio in 1861 in the district of Batignolles near an area known as Petit
Pologne. Petit Pologne was home to the underprivileged who were being ejected by the
redevelopment taking place in Paris under Hausmann.
Manet was already conscious of Diderot s ideas about realistic subject matter in art and of Couture s
enlightened subjects of workers, laundresses and trains.
Baudelaire s philosophy, from revolting against tradition to the unearthing of modern life, craving
something new, is the location for the painter of modern life, the streets of Paris in all their
magnificence. The artist observes the world all the while staying hidden,a voyeur. His backdrop
of choice is the city crowds. We can easily get from Baudelaire s philosophies about modern art to
Manet as a man and a painter. He put on canvas what Baudelaire put in words.
Manet saw the role of a painter as more than just a creator of images. During his time in Couture s
studio he aquired skills in stdio art but also in portraying

The Negative Impact Of Technology In Education
During a time of great technological advancement, keeping a job has become difficult throughout
the United States. Robots, computers, and other machines are now able to perform human tasks,
taking over many jobs. As economic concerns rose throughout America, former President Barack
Obama spoke about issue in his farewell address, stating that economic dislocations will result from
the high rate of automation taking over middle class positions (Gillespie). This suggests that
advancement in automation is causing job loss, which will hurt the economy of America. Because
the growth of technologyis inevitable, it will undoubtedly affect future generations. Battling the
negative effects and spreading the benefits of automation starts with addressing the skills and
qualities needed in the workforce. To help future generations battle automation effectively, there
needs to be changes within the educational system, teaching future students skills and emphasizing
qualities that cannot be outdone or emulated by a machine.
Technology changed the way we learn, but it did not change what we learn. As technology
advanced, the economy changed, with some jobs and skills becoming obsolete. Ending automation
starts with changing what it is we are learning. Education provides a background for the future of
many students; however, the information students are learning is not putting them in the right
position to battle automation. In his article, Companies Need to Pay to Train Potential

Total War Dbq Essay
Throughout history, there have been a multitude of examples of wars brought too close to home.
At times, there comes a point in war where consideration of innocent lives becomes thin, and all
energy is put towards war efforts, rather than any other aspect of human life. These points in
history are referred to as total war. Examples of total war can be seen as far back as in the ancient
civilizations of Rome and Persia, however, the paragon of total war can be found in World War
Two. Based on the overall involvement of a vast multitude of civilians, economies and countries
targeted and impacted throughout the war, World War Two is the strongest example of total war in
American history. To begin with, World War Two shows the most instances

An example of this is the extremely well known poster of Rosie the Riveter created by J.
Howard Miller. The poster reads, We can do it! (Document B), and was meant to encourage
women to join the workforce while men were fighting, specifically in the weapon production
field (History.com). This is an instance in which the United States tried to devote all resources
to the war. Rather than staying at home and practicing the life of a stereotypical woman during
the time, women were motivated to take on new responsibility in order to provide for the war
effort, putting the war above all things. Another American example would be that of food rations
during the war time period. Assigned by the Office of Price Administration, The ration books
contained removable stamps good for certain rationed items, like sugar, meat, cooking oil, and
canned goods (Document C). The rations were put into place so that these types of resources
could be contributed to the war effort (National Park Service), which is a clear example of a
country devoting all of its resources to the war. The civilians were forced to make sacrifices for
the ultimate goal of keeping the war a priority. Another more blatant example of this during the war
can be found in the Soviet

Social Values In Dante s Inferno And St. Peters Apocalypse
From the readings in this class, one gets to learn the social values that many of the societies
abide to. Some social values are more important than others, but each society follows a set of
social values that are similar. Similarly, in Dante s Inferno, God s Demon, and St. Peters
Apocalypse there are sets of social values and if one does not abide to these social values they
are sent to Dis, also known as Hell. The sets of social values upheld in Dante s Inferno, God s

Peter s Apocalypse was very similar to Dante s Inferno in terms of being obvious what social
values were important to their society. Unlike Dante s Inferno, religion seems to be one of the
most important social values to hold in the society of St. Peter s Apocalypse. In the beginning
the Lord said, take care that no man deceives you and that you are not doubters and serve other
Gods (St. Peter s Apocalypse, p.1), He also goes on to say that martyrs that killed fake Christ
will be counted among the good and righteous martyrs. There were also sinners who involved
themselves in fornication, murderers, children were born before time, people that have
corrupted the work of God, despised, cursed, and abandoned the commandments of God. Some
social values that seem important to this society is that one should not go against God, one
should not take a life, or bring a life into the world before God s will. In Dante s Inferno, betrayal
was in Circle Nine and it was considered the worst crime of all similarly in St. Peter s
Apocalypse persecutors and betrayers were tormented by a worm that would devour their
entrails. Betrayal seems to be a social value important in both Dante s Inferno and in St. Peter s
Apocalypse. Lying and talking bad about someone are also some social values that are upheld in
this society. One should not defile their bodies, lend money on interest, and should not be
influenced by the evils in the world. Respects for elders, especially towards the parents

Sustainability Reporting Essay
As a newly established area in accounting, sustainability accounting and reporting extends the
traditional model of financial and non financial reporting to incorporate the company s operational
information, social and environmental activities, and their ability to deal with related risks. Not
only do these acts have effects on society and the environment, but they also directly impact
company s financial statements. The most widely accepted definition of sustainabilitythat has
emerged over time is the triple bottom line , which incorporates three key elements of performance:
financial, social, and environmental viability (Slaper). These three aspects of sustainability
reporting are also commonly referred to as the triple P s: people, planet, and profit. Although
sustainability has often been mentioned as the goal of many businesses, nonprofits and
governments over the past decade (and studies have shown that an increasing number of companies
and organizations are striving to make their operations more sustainable), determining how
sustainable an organization is can become difficult and also raises many questions within this sub
group of accounting.
Sustainability reporting has become increasingly prevalent in organizations of all types and sizes. A
company or organization s sustainability report is a published report that details the economic,
environmental and social impacts that are a direct result of their daily activities. These reports also

Social Norms Within Our Society
Social norms are behaviors that are expected within our society. When we see these norms out in
public we might not acknowledge them because we re expected to know how to act in different
places or situations. When these norms are violated people may be confused of the situation and
can become confused, annoyed, or mad. Social norms are a part of our everyday lives since before
we were born there were norms laid out for us already, from the way we re supposed to behave,
dress, and even talk. Norms have high value in our society they are the standards by which
people define what is desirable or undesirable, good or bad beautiful or ugly . There re what we
expect in our society from our behavior at school, in public, or school. Each place has a certain norm
we as a society should know when and how to follow. As a guest at someone s house, whether it
s at a families, friends, or strangers the norm has always been the same. We have to show respect
to the owners and their property, be polite, and show good manners while there. So for my own
personal norm violation I decided to break the guest at someone s house norm. This was taken

Proverbs 22:6 says Train up a child in the way he should go . In The Swiss Family

Not only did they flourish, but the parents, especially the father, used every obstacle and every
day as an opportunity to teach their four sons to become proper, godly men. Wyss does not simply

excitement and smiles appearing on my face during the way home. That was not an ending of a
day as happy as the Korean romantic dramas, I showed the result to my parents, immediately, my
father said No as if he was the judge in American Got Talents saying to contestants who failed at
their performance. Yes, No meant that I wouldn t be allowed to get that scholarship and had to stay
in Vietnam to continue my study, graduate and enter a well known Vietnamese college. I feel like
everything in the sky was falling down onto my head after hearing that word. All my effort one
more time was thrown away. A bunch of negative thoughts had begun coming out into my mind.
Without any responses, I went to my room in silence and torn down all my American stuff,

The And Its Effects On The Cell
The transport through the selectively permeable membrane is necessary for the cell to survive as
it receives vital molecules such as oxygen from the extra cellular environment and being able to
expel waste products, like urea and ammonia, of the cell processes (4). The transport across the
membrane can involve or not the use of energy, provided by the scission of ATP molecules into
ADP+P. In the first case, we are talking about active transport. Energy is required in this kind of
transport because it happens against concentration gradient and therefore the substance has to be
moved against its natural tendency of diffusion(2). Active transport is also necessary when large
molecules or large quantities of substance are required into the... Show more content on

Diffusion can be defined as the movement of certain molecules down to their concentration gradient
(from the side with higher concentration of solute, to the side with lower concentration of solute)
through a selectively permeable membrane. However, the movement of substances through the cell
s cytoplasm must be analysed as well since, after they have crossed the membrane, they will
have to reach the organelles. The dimensions of a cell are deeply influenced by the rate of this
process, because bigger cells will have a less immediate and efficient access to those substances.
When the molecules are small enough to get through the pores between the phospholipids, a
simple diffusion can happen. On the other hand, when the aid of channel or carrier proteins is
necessary, we are talking about facilitated diffusion (5). Facilitated diffusion can happen both
because the molecules are too big and because they are lipid insoluble or ions. In these cases, the
substances are not allowed to cross the phospholipids bilayer and need the help of some proteins
present in cell membrane (6).
The process of osmosis is an example of diffusion: the water molecules move down to their
concentration gradient through a selectively permeable membrane (1). In fact, when the cell
membrane is impermeable to a solute, the solvent molecules (in biological systems, water
molecules) move from

Analysis Of The Article 10 Reasons Why Homosexual...

Final Critical Analysis Paper In the Article 10 Reasons Why Homosexual Marriage is Harmful
and Must be Opposed by TFP Student Action the group lays out ten points on why it believes
homosexual marriage is not only wrong but is harmful to society. The article gives 10 reasons why
same sex marriage is wrong: it is not marriage, it violates natural law, it always denies a child
either a father or a mother, it validates and promotes the homosexual lifestyle, it turns moral wrong
into a civil rights, it does not create a family but a naturally sterile union, it defeats the state s
purpose of benefiting marriage, it imposes its acceptance on all society, it s the cutting edge of the
sexual revolution, and it offends God. These reasons may sound rational on the surface, but I am
going to point out flaws I see in these arguments. In the first argument, TFP Student Action makes
the claim that marriage has always been a covenant between one man and one woman, which is far
from true. According to The Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry, In many
cultures, both ancient and modern, polygamy has been quite common, which describes the
relationship of one husband with multiple wives (CLGS). The fact that marriage has not always
been between one man and one woman obviously discredits the argument made by the Student
Action Group. Seeing as how the TFP s definition of marriage has been discredited its argument
from that

Integration Of Advance Practice Nursing Case Study
Integration of Advance Practice Nurses has been an ongoing process for the last four decades
(Wilson, 2016; DiCenso Bryant Lukosius, 2010). There are several types of APNs including
Primary Health NPs, Pediatric NPs and Adult NPs (Wilson, 2016; DiCenso Bryant Lukosius,
2010). The following assignment intends to explore a particular advance practice nurse (ANP)
role in the current Canadian health care system. Melissa Harriott, BScN, RN, MN, NP has been
interviewed to describe her advance practice role, philosophy of health, core competencies, and the
nature of her practice as an ANP at the University of Alberta Hospital. Currently, Melissa is the
first and the only nurse practitioner in Canada that performs colonoscopies as a part of... Show more

The clinic has been very successful in managing patients IBD symptoms in a timely manner while
preventing unnecessary emergency department visits, and alleviating anxiety and depression
associated with the unpredictable flares, ineffective pharmacological management and potential
development of negative self image. Kurina, Goldacre and Gill (2001) stated that over 60 percent of
the studied population with IBD had anxiety and/or depression. Poor symptom management,
ineffective coping mechanisms, lack of support, and negate self imaging, are the main risk factors
associated with the anxiety in the population with IBD (Bannaga Selinger, 2015). Melissa
concurred with the above statement and indicated that the interprofessional collaborative treatment
approach at the clinic offers short wait times, multidimensional support and long term follow up for
the patients. She also stated that her role includes all categories of core competencies of an NP
(Canadian Nurses Association [CNA], 2010; Wilson, 2016). The NP assesses patients at the clinic,
based on the laboratory work and biopsies taken during a colonoscopy, she confirms whether the
patient has IBD and specifies the type. In cases with previously known condition she assesses the
intensity of the flare and decides upon further actions, which include medication initiation
/adjustment, referral to the dietitian, referral to additional diagnostic imaging, and collaboration
with the IBD nurse for the further

Winnie The Pooh By Winnie Pooh
Winnie the Pooh is a tale that spans across generations of childhoods and adulthoods. The gentle
appeal of a soft, simple bear and his group of eclectic friends has captured the hearts of millions.
However, in the search to make Pooh more marketable, drastic changes have been made to the
original text in order to appeal to a wider audience. In my research, I will explore how the
commercialization of Winnie the Poohaffected the original text, both in its meaning and sentimental
value. Winnie the Pooh has not always been the stylized, bright yellow bear that we now see
plastered on countless spin off books, movies, mugs, and shower curtains. On the contrary, the
history behind the first publication of Winnie the Pooh is one of sweet and simple origins. A. A.
Milne, the author, wouldn t have even considered writing a children s book if it weren t for his
son, Christopher. Before Christopher s birth in 1920, Milne was a somewhat successful
playwright, mystery author, and humorist for Punch magazine. However, he was inspired to
write a book that his son would cherish by basing it on Christopher s favorite stuffed bear,
Winnie. When Milne proposed the idea of writing children s poetry, his British publisher was
disappointed; he was expecting an adult mystery novel that he knew could sell. After being
rejected, Milne went to Punch magazine, where he was allowed to test out his idea. In 1924, a
Pooh like bear first appeared in the poem Teddy Bear, which centered on a bear who

Lillian Schwartz and Tracey Moffat Modern Technology and Modern Art
Many modern artists use high technology equipment in their works. Whereas traditionally artists
used a pencil or brush to make beautiful works of art, artists in the early twenty first century are
now using sound, video or computer generated images. Digital art developed from simple patterns
and shapes made using computer programs to finished works of art which can look as realistic as
a watercolour or oil painting. Modern art exhibitions often include more videos and installations
than traditional painting or drawings. Even artists which use traditional techniques increasingly use
modern technology such as the internet to display their works and communicate with ... Show more

Artists today are continually experimenting with new technology in different ways, finding new
ways to use old mediums and finding new mediums as well. In modern art displays such as the
various Biennales held around the world, video plays a dominant role, as well as installation art and
increasingly, digital art. There are even exhibitions that solely focus on digital art, such as Ars
Electronica held annually in Linz, Austria. The internet is becoming used more with many
contemporary artists using it to display their works with online galleries, talk to other artists and
sell their works. Internet sites such as deviantart.com or yessy.com offer artists an opportunity to
sell and display their works and communicate with people throughout the world.
Computer programs such as Photoshop and Painter allow artists to easily manipulate photographs
and paint pictures using custom artists tools which can create the effects in a few minutes of what
previously would have taken months to paint. Many artists today are involved in using digital art
technology to produce websites, computer games or online art exhibitions. The conceptart.org
website is one example of a site which mostly displays digital art, that has over 100,000 posts by
many different people. Digital art is increasingly being

Founded over 150 years ago in 1862 by Joshua Allder in Croydon, Allders started out as a linen and draper mercer. By the time Joshua Allder passed away in 1904, the store had grown considerably. The shop had expanded and so too did the range of items it sold; from haberdashery to china and porcelain items too. In 1908 Allders was sold to J.W. Holdron and F.C. Bearman, who continued to develop the store creating 50 departments, before selling the business in 1921. In the late 1950 s Allders came under the ownership of United Drapery Stores and continued to expand and provide an ever increasing range of items, with a ВЈ3 million turnover in the early 1960s. ... • 6. The Bull At The Palace Of Minos Essay INTRODUCTION One of the most captivating tales from Ancient Greece is that of King Minos of Crete and the Minotaur, a beast half man and half bull. This legend, immortalised by modern films, has its origins in the Aegean, at a time when the bull held a special place in society. During excavations near Heraklion in Crete in 1990, English archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans unearthed a massive structure built by a sophisticated Bronze Age civilisation. Evans identified this as the Palace of King Minos in the ancient city of Knossos, inhabited by people he called the Minoans. Evans excavations at Knossos revealed an extensive body of evidence for the Minoan civilisation, an analysis of which proves the bull to be a significant motif depicted on a range of iconographical media. The Australian Museum s latest exhibition, Minotaur: The Bull at the Palace of Minos draws on this evidence to present different representations of the bull at Knossos, as well as to communicate the significance of the bull to the Minoans. The blockbuster, which is expected to run from April September 2018 will showcase over 100 objects from the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, as well as integrate innovative digital technologies to provide visitors with enjoyable immersive experiences. The following report provides a detailed overview of the exhibition, beginning with an explanation of its value, content and layout, before moving on to outline the target audience and visitor experience on offer. ... • 9. Does Nitric Acid Affect The Synthesis Of Nitroacetanilide In this experiment, nitric acid and sulfuric acid were mixed to form nitronium ions, hydronium ions, and hydrogen sulfate ions. The amide on the acetanilide is an electron donating group, an activator, which means that when an activated electrophile is added to the acetanilide, it will add in the ortho, para positions. In this case, the activated electrophile is the nitronium ions, which react with the acetanilide and form an arenium ion. Then, the hydrogen sulfate ions pull off the hydrogen that is attached to the same carbon as the nitronium ion, allowing the lone pair that is now on the carbon the hydrogen left from to form a double bond with the electron deficient (positively charged) carbon next to it. In lieu of the passivity that the other Handmaid s come to have, she fights back against the new system. Her resistance can be seen not only in her attitude while she is a Handmaid, but in her two attempts at escape as well. This didn t change even after stricter rules were in place, as when Moira was first brought to the gymnasium she wore a blue sweatshirt along with jeans, along with sporting a short haircut (71). Once the Republic of Gilead was formed, the pressure to conform to society s new rules was harshly enforced. However, this didn t stop Moira from continuing to rebel in whatever ways that she was able. She was the polar opposite of what the majority of the Handmaids were like, as all of the other Handmaids that have been introduced were seen to be very reserved and many had even accepted their new role in life. These characteristics were the exact opposite of Moira s, with her attempting to escape two times during her stint as a Handmaid. After Moira was caught during her first attempt at escape, she was tortured severely. This was done by using steel cables on both the feet and the hands, since these were seen as non essential parts of a Handmaid (91). Although she was caught quickly in her first attempt at escape, the beatings that she endured only fueled her desire to find a way out of this oppressive society even more. Along with her attempts at escape, she fought against Gilead in a more subtle way, by showing true solidarity among her fellow Handmaids. He writes, Almost a quarter of military members have symptoms of at least one mental health condition, with more than 10% qualifying for a diagnosis of two or more mental illnesses (Young 1). In other words, many people who serve in the military have mental health problems. Consequently, if everyone in the U.S. was forced to serve, these numbers would be substantially higher. Young also shows the reader how easily anxiety is created in the military. He writes, Service members may not know what the future holds. They wait to learn about life threatening deployments, new job assignments, and other life altering transitions, impeding their ability to plan for the future and creating anxiety (Young 1). This means that while soldiers are serving, they are unable to see what will be happening even in the near future, causing major amounts of stress and anxiety. • 16. The Theory And Social Control Theory Evolution of Travis Hirschi Travis Hirschi is an American criminologist who is famous for developing the self control perspective on crime and social control perspective on juvenile delinquency. In his groundbreaking work, Causes of Delinquency, he argued out that an explanation for delinquency can be achieved by absence of social bonds. He also stated that delinquency could be prevented by social attachments, acceptance of social norms, recognizing the moral validity of law and involvement in conventional activities. In his other work with Michael R. Gottfredson, they defined crime as fraudulent or forceful acts that are undertaken in order to achieve one s self interest. They also argued that the explanation for all crime can be given as a combination of low self control and criminal opportunity. While developing the perspective on delinquency and crime, Travis came up with two theories named as the self control theory and social control theory. The social control theory is built upon existing concepts of social control. It is positioned midst other sociological theories that are aimed at the role of familial and social bonds as constrictions on offending. The assertion of Hirschi s social control theory is that ties to the school, family and other aspects of society help diminishing an individual s propensity for divergent behavior. Some of these systems may include word processors, spreadsheets, email clients, file sharing systems, databases, etc. The main benefit behind this type of technology is that the more freely that information flows around an office, the more productive the environment is. • 22. Impressionism And Contribution To Edouard Manet Edouard Manet Numerous art historians believe that the birth of modern art can be traced back to Edouard Manet. Countless artists of note since Manet s time have been influenced by the legacy he left behind. Manet completely deviated from the established artistic traditions, and invented a entirely new type of painting. He was thought to be the frontrunner of the avant garde. He introduced two new features to painting that changed art forever; the adaptation of the image into a personal individual vision, which was completely at odds with existing art practices and the recognition of the fundamental pretense of painting. Manet forged the between Realism and Impressionism, which in turn encouraged many artists, in particular, the Impressionists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Manet felt that modern art should concern itself with everyday life. Modern artists could do this by moving through the city, observing life as it occurs. Manet moved to a new studio in 1861 in the district of Batignolles near an area known as Petit Pologne. Petit Pologne was home to the underprivileged who were being ejected by the redevelopment taking place in Paris under Hausmann. Manet was already conscious of Diderot s ideas about realistic subject matter in art and of Couture s enlightened subjects of workers, laundresses and trains. Baudelaire s philosophy, from revolting against tradition to the unearthing of modern life, craving something new, is the location for the painter of modern life, the streets of Paris in all their magnificence. The artist observes the world all the while staying hidden,a voyeur. His backdrop of choice is the city crowds. We can easily get from Baudelaire s philosophies about modern art to Manet as a man and a painter. He put on canvas what Baudelaire put in words. Manet saw the role of a painter as more than just a creator of images. During his time in Couture s studio he aquired skills in stdio art but also in portraying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. The Negative Impact Of Technology In Education During a time of great technological advancement, keeping a job has become difficult throughout the United States. Robots, computers, and other machines are now able to perform human tasks, taking over many jobs. As economic concerns rose throughout America, former President Barack Obama spoke about issue in his farewell address, stating that economic dislocations will result from the high rate of automation taking over middle class positions (Gillespie). This suggests that advancement in automation is causing job loss, which will hurt the economy of America. Because the growth of technologyis inevitable, it will undoubtedly affect future generations. Battling the negative effects and spreading the benefits of automation starts with addressing the skills and qualities needed in the workforce. To help future generations battle automation effectively, there needs to be changes within the educational system, teaching future students skills and emphasizing qualities that cannot be outdone or emulated by a machine. Technology changed the way we learn, but it did not change what we learn. As technology advanced, the economy changed, with some jobs and skills becoming obsolete. Ending automation starts with changing what it is we are learning. Examples of total war can be seen as far back as in the ancient civilizations of Rome and Persia, however, the paragon of total war can be found in World War Two. This is an instance in which the United States tried to devote all resources to the war. Rather than staying at home and practicing the life of a stereotypical woman during the time, women were motivated to take on new responsibility in order to provide for the war effort, putting the war above all things. Another American example would be that of food rations during the war time period. Assigned by the Office of Price Administration, The ration books contained removable stamps good for certain rationed items, like sugar, meat, cooking oil, and canned goods (Document C). The rations were put into place so that these types of resources could be contributed to the war effort (National Park Service), which is a clear example of a country devoting all of its resources to the war. The civilians were forced to make sacrifices for the ultimate goal of keeping the war a priority. Another more blatant example of this during the war can be found in the Soviet ... The dimensions of a cell are deeply influenced by the rate of this process, because bigger cells will have a less immediate and efficient access to those substances. When the molecules are small enough to get through the pores between the phospholipids, a simple diffusion can happen. On the other hand, when the aid of channel or carrier proteins is necessary, we are talking about facilitated diffusion (5). Facilitated diffusion can happen both because the molecules are too big and because they are lipid insoluble or ions. In these cases, the substances are not allowed to cross the phospholipids bilayer and need the help of some proteins present in cell membrane (6). The process of osmosis is an example of diffusion: the water molecules move down to their concentration gradient through a selectively permeable membrane (1). In fact, when the cell membrane is impermeable to a solute, the solvent molecules (in biological systems, water molecules) move from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Analysis Of The Article 10 Reasons Why Homosexual... Nathan Fink PHL 123 Corrine Painter DATE Final Critical Analysis Paper In the Article 10 Reasons Why Homosexual Marriage is Harmful and Must be Opposed by TFP Student Action the group lays out ten points on why it believes homosexual marriage is not only wrong but is harmful to society. The article gives 10 reasons why same sex marriage is wrong: it is not marriage, it violates natural law, it always denies a child either a father or a mother, it validates and promotes the homosexual lifestyle, it turns moral wrong into a civil rights, it does not create a family but a naturally sterile union, it defeats the state s purpose of benefiting marriage, it imposes its acceptance on all society, it s the cutting edge of the sexual revolution, and it offends God. These reasons may sound rational on the surface, but I am going to point out flaws I see in these arguments. In the first argument, TFP Student Action makes the claim that marriage has always been a covenant between one man and one woman, which is far from true. According to The Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry, In many cultures, both ancient and modern, polygamy has been quite common, which describes the relationship of one husband with multiple wives (CLGS). The fact that marriage has not always been between one man and one woman obviously discredits the argument made by the Student Action Group. Seeing as how the TFP s definition of marriage has been discredited its argument from that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Integration Of Advance Practice Nursing Case Study Integration of Advance Practice Nurses has been an ongoing process for the last four decades (Wilson, 2016; DiCenso Bryant Lukosius, 2010). There are several types of APNs including Primary Health NPs, Pediatric NPs and Adult NPs (Wilson, 2016; DiCenso Bryant Lukosius, 2010). The following assignment intends to explore a particular advance practice nurse (ANP) role in the current Canadian health care system. Melissa Harriott, BScN, RN, MN, NP has been interviewed to describe her advance practice role, philosophy of health, core competencies, and the nature of her practice as an ANP at the University of Alberta Hospital. Currently, Melissa is the first and the only nurse practitioner in Canada that performs colonoscopies as a part of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The clinic has been very successful in managing patients IBD symptoms in a timely manner while preventing unnecessary emergency department visits, and alleviating anxiety and depression associated with the unpredictable flares, ineffective pharmacological management and potential development of negative self image. Kurina, Goldacre and Gill (2001) stated that over 60 percent of the studied population with IBD had anxiety and/or depression. Poor symptom management, ineffective coping mechanisms, lack of support, and negate self imaging, are the main risk factors associated with the anxiety in the population with IBD (Bannaga Selinger, 2015). Melissa concurred with the above statement and indicated that the interprofessional collaborative treatment approach at the clinic offers short wait times, multidimensional support and long term follow up for the patients. She also stated that her role includes all categories of core competencies of an NP (Canadian Nurses Association [CNA], 2010; Wilson, 2016). The NP assesses patients at the clinic, based on the laboratory work and biopsies taken during a colonoscopy, she confirms whether the patient has IBD and specifies the type. In cases with previously known condition she assesses the intensity of the flare and decides upon further actions, which include medication initiation /adjustment, referral to the dietitian, referral to additional diagnostic imaging, and collaboration with the IBD nurse for the further ... • 44. Winnie The Pooh By Winnie Pooh Winnie the Pooh is a tale that spans across generations of childhoods and adulthoods. The gentle appeal of a soft, simple bear and his group of eclectic friends has captured the hearts of millions. However, in the search to make Pooh more marketable, drastic changes have been made to the original text in order to appeal to a wider audience. In my research, I will explore how the commercialization of Winnie the Poohaffected the original text, both in its meaning and sentimental value. Winnie the Pooh has not always been the stylized, bright yellow bear that we now see plastered on countless spin off books, movies, mugs, and shower curtains. On the contrary, the history behind the first publication of Winnie the Pooh is one of sweet and simple origins. A. A. Milne, the author, wouldn t have even considered writing a children s book if it weren t for his son, Christopher. Before Christopher s birth in 1920, Milne was a somewhat successful playwright, mystery author, and humorist for Punch magazine. However, he was inspired to write a book that his son would cherish by basing it on Christopher s favorite stuffed bear, Winnie. When Milne proposed the idea of writing children s poetry, his British publisher was disappointed; he was expecting an adult mystery novel that he knew could sell. After being rejected, Milne went to Punch magazine, where he was allowed to test out his idea. In 1924, a Pooh like bear first appeared in the poem Teddy Bear, which centered on a bear who ... • 45. Lillian Schwartz and Tracey Moffat Lillian Schwartz and Tracey Moffat Modern Technology and Modern Art Many modern artists use high technology equipment in their works. Whereas traditionally artists used a pencil or brush to make beautiful works of art, artists in the early twenty first century are now using sound, video or computer generated images. Digital art developed from simple patterns and shapes made using computer programs to finished works of art which can look as realistic as a watercolour or oil painting. Modern art exhibitions often include more videos and installations than traditional painting or drawings. Even artists which use traditional techniques increasingly use modern technology such as the internet to display their works and communicate with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Artists today are continually experimenting with new technology in different ways, finding new ways to use old mediums and finding new mediums as well. In modern art displays such as the various Biennales held around the world, video plays a dominant role, as well as installation art and increasingly, digital art. There are even exhibitions that solely focus on digital art, such as Ars Electronica held annually in Linz, Austria. The internet is becoming used more with many contemporary artists using it to display their works with online galleries, talk to other artists and sell their works. Internet sites such as deviantart.com or yessy.com offer artists an opportunity to sell and display their works and communicate with people throughout the world. Computer programs such as Photoshop and Painter allow artists to easily manipulate photographs and paint pictures using custom artists tools which can create the effects in a few minutes of what previously would have taken months to paint. Many artists today are involved in using digital art technology to produce websites, computer games or online art exhibitions. The conceptart.org website is one example of a site which mostly displays digital art, that has over 100,000 posts by many different people. Digital art is increasingly being ...
