Cannibalism Is Not Illegal ( Eveleth )
The Other, Other, White Meat
We had to eat these dead bodies, and that was it , this is what Andes plane crash survivor, Roberto
Canessa, had to say on his experience with cannibalism. Cannibalism is the consumption of a member
of the same species. Consuming human flesh is not against the law in the United States, therefore
cannibalism is not illegal (Eveleth). In the eyes of the law, murdering someone to eat is wrong, but the
act of eating a human is not. To Americans the simple thought of eating another human is sickening.
To most that is true, but to others consuming human flesh is a way of life. Some cultures practice
cannibalism for their own spiritual beliefs and others have to eat human flesh to survive. Human flesh
has proteins most want when eating meat. The act of eating human meat has gotten a bad reputation
over the years, looking back in history, people thousands of years ago have different views.
Cannibalism is a way to survive, with the proteins necessary to do so, and a way for cultures to
express their beliefs. Cannibalism is a taboo topic most people do not know enough about. People eat
people for a variety of reasons, the most well known being killers getting a thrill from eating their
victims. Although not everyone who is a cannibal gets a high from eating humans, Americans still see
it as evil. Jeffrey Dahmer is the most well known example of this, a man who gets a sexual desire
from killing and eating his victims. Everyone across America knew of

Taxi Driver Suicide
Seventy five students were recruited from a large southeastern University to participate in the
experimental study. Twenty nine were male (39%) and forty six were female (61%). The age of the
sample ranged from 17 to 29 years with a mean age of 22 (SD = 2.56). This included 9% Caucasian
participants (n = 7), 69% Hispanic American participants (n = 52), 1% Native American participants
(n = 1), 13% African American participants (n = 10), 2% Asian American participants (n = 2). The
remaining three participants did not report their ethnicity (4%). In order to investigate counterfactual

The ANOVA was significant, F (2, 72) = 3.91, p = .024. In order to investigate differences in the
means, we ran a Tukey LSD post hoc test. This showed that participants placed less blame on the taxi
driver in the unchangeable condition (M = 2.68, SD = 2.08) than both the changeable condition (M =
4.24, SD =2.09) and neutral condition (M = 4.12, SD = 2.40). The changeable and neutral groups,
however, did not differ from each other. Additionally, we ran a One Way ANOVA with scenario as our
independent variable (changeable vs. unchangeable vs. neutral) and number of counterfactuals
participants generated as our dependent variable. The ANOVA was not significant, F (2, 72) = 2.30, p
= .107. Hence, the number of counterfactuals that participants generated in the changeable (M = 5.56,
SD = 2.76), unchangeable (M = 4.36, SD = 2.06), and neutral (M = 5.76, SD = 2.62) scenarios did not

David Foster Wallace Consider The Lobster Summary
Is it morally right to boil a lobster alive for culinary enjoyment? David Foster Wallace displays his
confusion on this subject in his informative essay titled Consider the Lobster. . He informs you about
the famed Maine Lobster Festival, where more than 25,000 pounds of fresh caught lobster is prepared
and consumed. He then goes into detail about the debate on the morality of such an event. There are a
lot of questions raised in this essay, and the lobster is the focus of all of them. Wallace asks people to
investigate their own feelings when he asks them to consider how comfortable it is for people to boil
lobsters alive, how much pain the lobster is in when it is being prepared, and what it is like to be in the
shoes of this crustacean. The purpose of this essay was to inform the people and get them to consider
the integrity of our most common cooking method when it comes to the lobster. First of all, the
experience of boiling a creature alive tends to feel quite uncomfortable for a lot of people, and there s
no avoiding that. Wallace says that it s not just that lobsters get boiled alive, it s that you do it yourself
or at least it s done specifically for you, on site (703). This tends to feel almost selfish due to the fact
that the animal is suffering for your enjoyment. To make matters worse, the intimacy of this process is
at a maximum when performed in your own home. Here, you get to watch as the lobster attempts to
cling to the sides of the container as you

The Dubliners By James Joyce
James Joyce s 1914 collection of 15 short stories The Dubliners has the continuous theme of money
which further dwells into the idea of class systems, how colonies became a dichotomy, and how in the
end, the colonists were nearly the same. Since Joyce writes these stories in the early 20th Century,
there has been a large history behind colonization and the life that comes with it. In using everyday
examples or little segments of the average day, Joyce expresses the idea and components of the class
system in Dublin which shows the distinction and yet the similarities between the impoverished and
the well to do. James Augustine Aloysius Joyce was born into a middle class family in 41 Brighton
Square, Rathgar, Dublin, which is a fairly nice area of Dublin. The family fell apart and they had to
move to northern Dublin, a very undesirable and unpleasant area to live in. In spite of having a out of
order household with an alcoholic father and unreliable income and finances, Joyce went to a
prestigious Jesuit high school and excelled there. Joyce then went on to college and transcended. With
all these past experiences, Joyce had learned the ways of living without the concern of money and had
also learned the ways of living with the concern of money and making ends meet. This situation was
not rare, for in fact, it happened to many denizens of Dublin. With this outlook and standpoint on life,
Joyce was compelled to write the tales of his miserable contemporaries. He compiled

Camille Pissarro s Apple Harvest In Europe
Apple Harvest in Europe
Introduction
Apple Harvest is a painting created by a French artist named Camille Pissarro in 1888. The artwork is
derived from the European culture focusing on the style of neo impressionism or pointillism. The
painting is made with the use of oil on canvas and currently located inside the Dallas Museum of Art
in second floor in the section of European art. It depicts a lively image of farmers engaging in their
daily activities where they are picking apples on a sunny day. The background of the landscape
consists of a huge ranch with additional apple trees that gives a vibration of harvesting season.
Similarly, it is a form of a representational artwork portraying physical labor by the farmers during
that period. Camille Pissarro seemed to support the farmers of low social status and believed in hard
work as some of his artworks are the representations of lives of these social groups (Dallas Museum of
Art 2017). In the painting Apple Harvest , he tries to picture working peasants in an apple farm in the
French Countryside (Dallas Museum of Art 2017). This paper is an integration of the analysis of
formal elements and principles relevant to the art work Apple Harvest and my experience of
observation of this piece of art at the Dallas Museum of Art including a reflection upon the visit.

Theme Of Anger In A Streetcar Named Desire
The characteristics of anger in literature appear in many literary works. Anger in literature is
characterized by the struggle against the establishment, values, conventions and authority. The 20th
century modern playwrights focused on many themes such as: the theme of social critic against middle
class values, theme of violence, damage, rage, hatred, loneliness and frustration. The protagonists are
mostly of the working class or of lower middle class origin; who view society with contempt and
ironic humor and may have conflict with authority. They share a disrespect and contempt for the class
system and the post welfare state. Anger in literature is characterized by applying the plot which is

He abuses his wife Stella physically and emotionally as he strikes and hits his pregnant wife while
Stella represents the self deprecating, submissive wife who tolerates and excuses her husband
behavior. Another central theme in Williams play is the theme of illusion; Blanche lives in a fantasy
world of sentimental illusion. She exerts efforts to maintain the appearance of being an upper class
young innocent woman, even though she is a fallen woman. Another theme is the theme of loneliness
as Blanche is lost and alone in the world and she desperately seeks protection and companionship in
the arms of strangers. Mitch is another character who is a victim of loneliness and he needs to find a
woman to love him the way his mother does. The theme of sexual desire is related to destruction.
Blanche wants to be a lady but she continually tripped up by her sexual desire. Stanley leads a violent
brutal desire and views Stella as a sexual object and his final act as he rapes Blanche emphasizes his
lustful desire. The theme of hatred is prevailed throughout the play as Blanche s insult and insolence
aroused the hatred of Stanley. The play focused on the feeling of repulsion between

Discuss the Pros and Cons of Implementing a Nationwide...
Discuss the pros and cons of implementing a nationwide road pricing scheme The introduction of a
nationwide road pricing scheme has been extensively considered in the UK. Early deliberations in the
Smeed Report implemented road pricing in 1962 using a colour coding system. With computing and
telecommunications changes in recent years there is potential for the road pricing scheme, which was
a component of the labour manifesto in 2005 using satellite navigation to track vehicle activity, to be
developed and implemented. The concept of introducing a market for roads through road pricing has
become a highly discussed topic due to the complexity of the operation and how it could revolutionise
the actions of drivers in the future with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People in a lower income bracket will be the ones who are hit hardest and have to change their driving
behaviour as the road pricing is independent of income, exhibiting price inelasticity. This increase in
inequality which could be a result of road pricing can be illustrated using the Lorenz curve which
shows the distribution of wealth, with increased inequality leading to a shift away from the line of
equality as shown by the arrow showing a higher proportion of income going to a smaller proportion
of people. There is a correlation between work flexibility and income so people with less income will
have to pay the peak time charges and the Lorenz curve will shift. As the main aim of the scheme is to
reduce congestion people may feel as though they are being Priced off the roads. The Gini Co efficient
shows distribution between households, it was recorded that following the London Toll introduction,
the co efficient increased from 0.2778 to 0.2785. Changes in road pricing have not been perceived
well by the public in the UK. The scheme has been viewed as an invasion of privacy due to the
tracking technology. After a referendum in Edinburgh the widespread political opposition was
reflected in the vote: 74% of people voted against the plan . An online petition against road pricing
was signed by 1.8 million people showing the depth of feeling against road pricing. However, with the
highest fuel duty in the world being increased above inflation each year, UK

Circus Maximus
Circus Maximus It is nearly impossible to look at the field that holds the remains of the Circus
Maximus and understand what it once held without the aid of a vivid reconstruction. The remains of
Circus Maximus lie in the Valley between the Aventine and Palentine hill. Traditionally, the history of
the Circus Maximus began with chariot races held in honor of the God Consus in a less permanent
structure in the area near Consus s altar. In later years, this lead to the construction of a circus under
the first Etruscan king, Tarquinius Priscus around 600 bc. Previous to Tarquin s intervention, an
underground stream kept the valley swamp like. Tarquin diverted the water and drained the area and
began to hold chariot races in the area. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Racers were expected to remain in their chalked lanes until passing a marked break line at which time
the charioteers were free to take any position on the track. The jargoning for the ideal location on the
track often made racing a dangerous sport. The chariot races traditionally consisted of seven laps
about the track counterclockwise. Turning posts dubbed matae consisted of 3 gilded bronze cones set
atop a hemispherical shaped block. The races lasted somewhere in the realm between eight and nine
minutes and the race length was measured to be near three miles. More often than not, chariots were
pulled by four horses. At the beginning of the races, it is suspected that chariots were owned privately
and the charioteers hired by the owners. Over time factions, a system of professional chariot racing
organizations emerged. The timing of the initial use of factions is expected to have been sometime
shortly after the Second Punic War. The factions seem to have emerged over time out of need rather
than by a specific mandate. The amount of chariot races and popularity of the sport a public need for
organization became apparent. The efficiency offered by factions was a popular solution to the
inadequacy of the previous system. The faction owners had teams of workers and all sorts of resources
for their athletes. The horses, chariots,

The Human Response On An Ignition Hole For The Vehicle Essay
The focus of this paper is to highlight the human response in relation to an action, in this case turning
the key in an ignition, once it has been inserted into the correct ignition hole for the vehicle. The aim
is to identify the brain response with the haptic perceptions and to a lesser extent the visual
perceptions that are involved when completing the instruction set.
Before I begin to explain how we complete this instruction I would like to explain some functions of
our brain and how it relates to completing this task.
Before anything can begin the process to turn the key in the ignition must begin with the decision to
complete the task. The area responsible is called the prefrontal cortex (PFC) which is the cerebral
cortex located in the frontal lobe. Although this area is implicated in planning complex cognitive
behaviour, personality expression, decision making and moderating social behaviour (Yang, 2009) we
are primarily interested in its effect on decision making in relation to our instruction set chosen.
This region of the brain is considered to be responsible for alignment of thoughts and actions in
accordance with internal goals, in this case getting the key to the ignition and turning the key the
appropriate amount to complete the action of turning on the vehicle.
Another area of the brain responsible for assisting in the completion of our task is the premotor cortex
also lying in the frontal lobe just anterior to the primary motor cortex. Although this area

Research Paper On Jason s Secret Plan
Jason s Secret Plan It is present day in a small town known as Salem, MA. Its getting closer and closer
to Halloween. I see the leaves are beginning to change, the nights are getting cooler, the sounds of
tractors in the field harvesting crops, the sight of pumpkins everywhere decorating houses with faces
and designs carved into them surround the neighborhood. Salem, MA is a very quiet town where
everyone knows everyone and everyone gets along, for the most part. On my way back from the
grocery store there is a detour for road construction. I end up having to take a very dark back road. I
see an abandoned insane asylum. The idea that has been fresh in my mind for some time comes to my
head instantly. I pull up in front of the old building and think about how in my plan I want to create a
haunted house to kill the people that who attend it looking for a good time and to display their dead
bodies as part of the attraction yet unknown to them. That this will be the very place that I will create
and finish my plan. There are multiple small trap rooms with creepy cages in the middle creating a
haunted house for the public that is going to become my organized plan hoping that no mistakes come
along to mess it up. I leave and head home to start organizing the events that are about to happen.
While I m working on the ideas and making decorations that will fill the haunted house I hear a quiet
knock at the front door. I jump in fear that my plan may could be ruined. I walk

Key Factors Of The Division Over Instrumental Integration...
What were the key factors of the division over instrumental integration into worship? This paper will
discuss the thought process behind the rejection of instruments, explaining; why those who favored it
chose to keep peace, why it was seen as impure worship to those who rejected it, and why it was not
ordained according to positive law. During the Stone Campbell movement, music was a strict topic
because of its significant in worship to God. Since the time that Europeans first arrived to North
America, music has been a very crucial factor to the development and spreading of Christianity.
Christianity is known for the diversity of traditions, as well as the diversity of music expressions of
these traditions. (Stowe, 2010) The instrumental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
McGarvey leads his argument by presenting as fact, the idea that,
...any part of the Jewish worship was discontinued by those who organized the Christian church, is a
direct condemnation of it by the Spirit of God as unsuited to the new institution. (Campbell 1865, 187)
This claim is unsubstantiated, therefore the entire argument is fallacious.
When a church of Disciples of Christ played its first instrument (a melodeon) in worship, it caused
huge controversy. An elder of the church removed it from the church one night and sold it because he
saw it as unscriptural. A man named Huldrych Zwingli who was a well known instrumentalists, also
rejected instrumental music and banned all playing of organs in worship. Under his influence, some of
his followers went to their churches and destroyed their organs. Reading Monroe Hawley s article,
Controversy in St. Louis, the First Church built a building that included expensive commodities. One
of which was a $3000 organ. (Hawley 1984, 4) Though it seemed like a blessing, it brought a debt
upon the congregation, which led to prompting members to actually rent pews. This caused a lot of
commotion. A woman named Louise Hockday, along with many other members, pushed to have the
organ torn out and sold. But as a vote was made, the organ was decided to stay and members who
opposed left. Because of this, both sides of the controversy met to settle it on December 27th 30th,
1870.

How Sex Work Affect The Lives Of Sex Workers
When one thinks about prostitution or they hear the words sex worker , the typical picture that
resonates through their mind is a women standing on a street corner, wearing revealing or provocative
clothes, and wanting to get money so that they can feed their drug habits. Although the stereotypical
image of prostitution, this common image is not always accurate. Not only is the stereotypical image
of prostitution incorrect, but the lifestyle that is associated with sex work differs greatly depending on
your geographical location along with the history behind how sex work in that region originated. How

Women who partook in the sex industry were seen as dirty and sinful, which was the case during the
middle ages in Amsterdam. During this time period, sex workers were sometimes buried alive while
other women had their ears cut off for sleeping with another man. Even though prostitutes endured
brutal punishments brought on by other s beliefs, later in the 1700 1800s, prostitution was seen as
tolerable. During this time, Amsterdam was a booming port area. In areas that house many
transportation hubs and terminals, prostitution has a functional aspect of ease (Aalbers and Sabat 3).
Due to the overwhelming number of traders, sailors, and ship workers, prostitution became a social
norm for travelers in Amsterdam. However, during this time, soliciting sex work and brothels were
illegal. A brothel can be simply defined as a place where customers visit sex workers. Many brothels
during the early twenty century disguised themselves as bars or parlors, which gave sex workers the
opportunity to accumulate business easier. However, since brothels were illegal, most sex workers had
to work alone or in shady situations. Although the Netherland s government thought the prohibition of
brothels would decrease the rate of prostitution and sexually transmitted disease, the act became
counterproductive instead. Typically, when you take on a job such as prostitution secretly, then the risk

Ethical Issues In Healthsouth
HealthSouth is mentioned in this week s chapter regarding companies that have suffered due to ethical

overstating earnings by 2.5 billion dollars. Simply stated, the CEO, Richard Scrushy, and his
leadership team were cooking the books. Fortunately for HeatlhSouth, Jay Grinney succeeded Scrushy
and the company has rebounded better than before, seeing growth across the country and showing

HealthSouth expects the Compliance Work Plan to be implemented and embraced by all stakeholders
in order to ensure success. As they have for years now, the findings are published on the HealthSouth

Analysis Of Technology-Based Education
Another challenge for TBE is the need for compatible technology. In order for learning programs to
share and recycle content, the content needs to be able to interface with a variety of learning
management systems as well as different computer operating systems. For example, Apple computers
have a unique operating system to the more common Windows operating system. Nevertheless, as
these systems were designed, developers can create learning content specific to each system. All that
is needed in order for this to function well is for these developers to figure out how to efficiently
integrate a single TBE program into multiple operating systems. This may lead to high development
costs but within the past five years, leading organizations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
TBE degree programs still lack the level of credibility traditional degree programs. For example,
companies looking to hire degree recipients tend to hire applicants who have received their degree
thru a traditional institution rather than someone who took it online. Additionally, some companies are
skeptical on hiring someone who has taken online classes due to the reason that it isn t socially
accepted as a viable way to obtain a degree. In general, they are concerned that TBE is more
susceptible to cheating and poor quality than traditional face to face and classroom based learning.
The only way for this to resolve itself is time because eventually it will find its way to the modern eye
of everyone.
Although rigorous wide scale research evaluating TBE s effectiveness by any of these criteria is thin,
the available evidence points out that TBE generally seems to work at least as well as traditional
approaches and is often more efficient in costs. Nonetheless, it also seems clear that, to realize its full
potential, TBE should not forgo opportunities for human interaction either face to face or
electronically. It should also provide opportunities for the active engagement of learners, provide
content that is relevant and linked with what learners already know, and offer opportunities for
feedback and support. TBE is rapidly evolving in adopting different principles and methods in
providing everything a stable

Screwtape Letters Summary
The Screwtape letters is another great work of Lewis where he uses imagination to explain the truth
upside down through letters between two devils. It is like reverse psychology in a way for example if
something is good in Screwtape then it is bad in reality or if something is a setback it is actually a
victory in struggles against evil ( Brown 177). Lewis then talked about his idea of the devil ; he does
not believe the devil is the opposite force against God, rather he says it is angels that have become
bad. He goes on to explain that these demonic representations are just symbolic and these symbols of
concrete reality are used in the Screwtape letters (Brown 178). The first letter is basically saying that

Ward Wrote There has been a dichotomy between reason and imagination ever since the
Enlightenment of the 17th and 18th centuries. Reasonable people don t need imagination. Imaginative
people don t need reasons (3). Then why do we believe in Lewis s collaboration of reason and
imagination that makes him so successful? The answer is that reason judges between meanings that
right and wrong and imagination produces these meanings (Ward 3). Lewis s works described above
give an account about this especially Mere Christianity. He showed that all worldviews have some
flaws but Christianity is a myth that is true. He fulfills our inner desires and baptizes our intellectual
minds. Lewis s mission was to live like a disciple of Christ himself and helped make Disciples of
Christ in heart and mind. He despised the idea of biblical separation and was a firm believer of
Christian unity and influenced movements based on this unity in different parts of the world especially
among evangelicals (Ryken 10). This is possibly, why he is so successful today among most

The concepts and institutions of the Western legal tradition, namely common and statute law, the court
system and the Bill of Rights, influenced the colony of New South Wales, and ultimately, the
development of the Australian legal system to a great extent. Although the concepts and institutions of
the Western legal tradition continue to influence New South Wales and the Australian legal system, the

The formation of these courts proved to be extremely influential to the colony of New South Wales
and the development of Australian law as judicial decisions from cases such as Kable v Captain
Sinclair (1788) proved crucial for the maturing of the Australian legal system through the legislative
establishment of the British law concept of the rule of law. As well as this the institution of the court
system also created Australia s own doctrine of precedence.
In 1828 the British Parliament enacted the Australian Courts Act (Vines p.174) which stated that all
applicable common laws and statutes in force in England on the 28th of July 1828, would apply in the
colony. This is known as the date of the Doctrine of Reception. Examples included, general rules of
inheritance and protection from personal injuries (Blackstone Vines p.1760). In 1842 the Western
legislative institution was adapted to the colony with the Australian Constitutions Act. A legislative
council was established with 24 of the 36 members being elected. In 1855, the New South Wales
Government Act gave this legislature the general power to make laws for the good government of the
colony. By 1860, all of the Australian colonies, other than Western Australia were governed very much
like Britain (Vines p.185).
The Colonial Laws Validity Act (Imp) (1865) gave the NSW parliament the right to amend those
British legislative and common laws that did not apply to the colony and

Sexual Identity Development
D Augelli s Model of Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Development
There are several theorists that have presented models on sexual identity development. Many of the
models have stages of sexual identity development suggesting that certain characteristics are present
during a specific period. However, Anthony D Augelli presents a model that suggests processes rather
than stages. These processes take place over the span of one s life and not necessarily in any specific
order or fashion. D Augelli s (1994a) life span model of lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) identity
development takes into account the complex factors that influence the development of people in

Developing an LGB intimacy status is the process of establishing an intimate relationship. When

Leo has many influences and inspirations. For instance Diego Maradona, a former great Argentinian
soccer player, is a big inspiration to Leo (Logothetis 7). Another inspiration is Leo s grandmother
Celia. She put Leo in his first youth soccer club when he was only five years old (Morreale 9). Every
time Leo scores a goal, he puts two fingers to the sky in honor of his grandmother (37).
In conclusion, growth disorder affects many people, but Leo Messi did not let that stop him from

The Pros And Cons Of The IMF In Pakistan
The IMF has a history with the country of Pakistan which may be viewed as very problematic for the
people of the country depending on who you ask. In my research for one specific problem to write
about pertaining this issue, I decided to encompass the entire project of Pakistan, which to many
would be considered a massive failure on the part of the IMF and the ruling elite class of Pakistan.
Pakistan gained its independence in 1947, and was mostly under martial law until 1984, four years
before the IMF started granting loans to Pakistan that would never be repaid. Despite having a historic
culture and ample natural resources, Pakistan as a country cannot seem to keep it s head above water

country can t always meet the conditions of the loans from the IMF, the US has gleefully stepped up to

relationship with the US is based on Pakistan s strategic location at the mouth of the Persian Gulf .
(Ahmad, E., Mohammed, A., 2012). So the IMF is setting Pakistan up for failure with it s stop and go

the land. So in it s series of loans to Pakistan, it has stripped the independence from the country and

Small Hive Beetle
The objective of this research is to gain knowledge and disseminate information in regards to the
cultural practices in honey bee husbandry and the management of small hive beetles. The small hive
beetle is known to be an occasional pest species to African honey bees, but they are more of a threat to
European honey bees. The aim of this study is to investigate the potential effects of commercial pollen
dough substitutes on the survivability and reproductive success of the small hive beetle. This new
information will aid beekeepers through the process of selecting diets that are impactful in stopping
the spread of SHB in honey bee colonies.
The small hive beetles originated from infested colonies, and this experiment requires that they be
maintained. The control variable was unfed adult small hive beetles and beetles that were only fed on
water. The independent variables are Dadant Artificial Pollen 23, Dadant Brood Builder, and Protein
Patties. Measurements of the amount of time that the small hive beetles are able to survive in each
pollen dough substitute, and how successful the beetles are at reproducing (this is done by counting
the amount of larvae present in each container) will be observed.
In this experiment, adult small hive beetles were placed into plastic containers; each container had a

Reflection On Track And Field
On April 4, 2017 I started my first Track and Field season at Mosinee Middle School and learned a
very valuable lesson, but let s not get ahead of ourselves we have to start from the beginning. Probably
sometime in February I was in 7th grade Social Studies and I heard on the announcements that there
were Track and Field sign ups coming up. Mr. Rheinshmidt, our vice principal, stated on the
loudspeakers, There will be Track Sign ups in the creske gym lobby this Thursday. I thought to
myself... what would I be good at in Track?... shotput?... Discus? I was brought back from deep
thought as my Social Studies teacher started talking after the announcements were done. As soon as I
heard this, I knew that I would be in Track that spring. That day at lunch I asked my friends whether
or not any of them were interested in joining Track and Field that season... but none of them were
which made me lonely and wistful. I begged and begged them to join but they kept saying no. Please
join Track. I ll be so lonely if you don t, I told them beggingly. No, we said we didn t want to, they
stated sternly. I didn t let this stop me though I pestered them until one of them finally said that they
would join. Because of this I was ecstatic that I would not feel lonely. Even though I ended up making
even more friends in Track than just hanging out with the friend I pestered to join. The next day, was

Disadvantages Of Mcdonaldization
McDonaldization has traveled over various types of demographics, it has developed from not only a
restaurant based business but now you see McDonaldization in the workplace, dieting, education
institutions, healthcare, politics; it is everywhere. The undeniable success of
McDonald s world renowned business (rationalization) example has thus been embraced by countless
businesses and lives all over the world.
Taking elements of Max Weber s earlier works, George Ritzer takes it a bit further and coined the term
McDonaldization, even though it goes back to Henry Ford s era, and his use of an assembly line, it is
still very useful in society today. McDonalds exudes the process of replacing logical formal rules with

All of his concepts are beneficial to society to some extent, but with the good always comes the bad.
There are a few disadvantages of McDonaldization, such as the realization that you are doing all the
work, not the worker but you. You will also spend more of your time doing for yourself versus having
the worker to actually do it; you waste your time in the end. Then the sense of actual personal
interaction you would normally experience with a worker is lost. Just because something comes fast

John Locke s Second Treatise
John Locke and the Second Treatise is simply a section of his great works on his different views on
certain issues within the government . Chapter one begins with Locke restating what his arguments
were in the First Treatise. Locke also gives his position on Sir Robert Filmer s teachings. Locke s first
point was that Adam did not have authority over his children nor over the world which would have
been given from God. There is no possible way for someone to claim they are in relation to Adam
based off of a supposed source of evidence. Being that Adam does not have actual indication of his
family lineage, there is no proof that Adam or any supposedly family member, would have the power
to rule anyway. In chapter one Locke also states his definition ... Show more content on

To simply put Locke s definition, he defines this as, men being in a natural state and having the
privilege to do everything they please as long as it doesn t go against the law. This law states that
everyone is equal to one another. No man is more powerful than another man. Nevertheless, that does
not give any man to abuse his equality over another mans equality, the naturalness of law still
continues in a state of nature. In the bible it states that everyone is equal unless God says otherwise. He
also goes into detail about how we as humans have no right to destroy our bodies, for example suicide.
Locke claims that we are all independent beings so we should all take value to our lives. He also
claims that no one else should harm any other person s possessions, health or liberty, simply because
that bible says so. As for law breakers, Locke states that anyone who commits a crime, the law is
subjected to punish lawbreakers as sternly as needed. The punishment of a crime is only acceptable if
the consequences are equal to the crime committed. And if such a crime is committed and the
consequences should follow, punish them unto the law not unto your own will. However if man has
murkered another man, the law has the right to kill the murderer. By taking a man s life away, this is
setting an example for others who watch the punishment to discourage them from making that same
mistake in

Viking ships traveled extensively up the navigable rivers and estuaries of Europe to attack unguarded
towns and villages and make off with captured plunder before any force could be raised to stop them.
The success of these small Viking parties lay in their speed of movement and the surprise of their
onslaught against larger numbers, advantages they owed to the superior versatility of the longship.

Another important point in sanction clauses is the wording of the terms that are included in the

  • 2. Cannibalism Is Not Illegal ( Eveleth ) The Other, Other, White Meat We had to eat these dead bodies, and that was it , this is what Andes plane crash survivor, Roberto Canessa, had to say on his experience with cannibalism. Cannibalism is the consumption of a member of the same species. Consuming human flesh is not against the law in the United States, therefore cannibalism is not illegal (Eveleth). In the eyes of the law, murdering someone to eat is wrong, but the act of eating a human is not. To Americans the simple thought of eating another human is sickening. To most that is true, but to others consuming human flesh is a way of life. Some cultures practice cannibalism for their own spiritual beliefs and others have to eat human flesh to survive. Human flesh has proteins most want when eating meat. The act of eating human meat has gotten a bad reputation over the years, looking back in history, people thousands of years ago have different views. Cannibalism is a way to survive, with the proteins necessary to do so, and a way for cultures to express their beliefs. Cannibalism is a taboo topic most people do not know enough about. People eat people for a variety of reasons, the most well known being killers getting a thrill from eating their victims. Although not everyone who is a cannibal gets a high from eating humans, Americans still see it as evil. Jeffrey Dahmer is the most well known example of this, a man who gets a sexual desire from killing and eating his victims. Everyone across America knew of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Taxi Driver Suicide Seventy five students were recruited from a large southeastern University to participate in the experimental study. Twenty nine were male (39%) and forty six were female (61%). The age of the sample ranged from 17 to 29 years with a mean age of 22 (SD = 2.56). This included 9% Caucasian participants (n = 7), 69% Hispanic American participants (n = 52), 1% Native American participants (n = 1), 13% African American participants (n = 10), 2% Asian American participants (n = 2). The remaining three participants did not report their ethnicity (4%). In order to investigate differences in the means, we ran a Tukey LSD post hoc test. This showed that participants placed less blame on the taxi driver in the unchangeable condition (M = 2.68, SD = 2.08) than both the changeable condition (M = 4.24, SD =2.09) and neutral condition (M = 4.12, SD = 2.40). The changeable and neutral groups, however, did not differ from each other. Additionally, we ran a One Way ANOVA with scenario as our independent variable (changeable vs. unchangeable vs. neutral) and number of counterfactuals participants generated as our dependent variable. The ANOVA was not significant, F (2, 72) = 2.30, p = .107. Hence, the number of counterfactuals that participants generated in the changeable (M = 5.56, SD = 2.76), unchangeable (M = 4.36, SD = 2.06), and neutral (M = 5.76, SD = 2.62) scenarios did not ... • 4. David Foster Wallace Consider The Lobster Summary Is it morally right to boil a lobster alive for culinary enjoyment? David Foster Wallace displays his confusion on this subject in his informative essay titled Consider the Lobster. . He informs you about the famed Maine Lobster Festival, where more than 25,000 pounds of fresh caught lobster is prepared and consumed. He then goes into detail about the debate on the morality of such an event. There are a lot of questions raised in this essay, and the lobster is the focus of all of them. Wallace asks people to investigate their own feelings when he asks them to consider how comfortable it is for people to boil lobsters alive, how much pain the lobster is in when it is being prepared, and what it is like to be in the shoes of this crustacean. The purpose of this essay was to inform the people and get them to consider the integrity of our most common cooking method when it comes to the lobster. First of all, the experience of boiling a creature alive tends to feel quite uncomfortable for a lot of people, and there s no avoiding that. Wallace says that it s not just that lobsters get boiled alive, it s that you do it yourself or at least it s done specifically for you, on site (703). This tends to feel almost selfish due to the fact that the animal is suffering for your enjoyment. To make matters worse, the intimacy of this process is at a maximum when performed in your own home. The Dubliners By James Joyce James Joyce s 1914 collection of 15 short stories The Dubliners has the continuous theme of money which further dwells into the idea of class systems, how colonies became a dichotomy, and how in the end, the colonists were nearly the same. Since Joyce writes these stories in the early 20th Century, there has been a large history behind colonization and the life that comes with it. In using everyday examples or little segments of the average day, Joyce expresses the idea and components of the class system in Dublin which shows the distinction and yet the similarities between the impoverished and the well to do. James Augustine Aloysius Joyce was born into a middle class family in 41 Brighton Square, Rathgar, Dublin, which is a fairly nice area of Dublin. The family fell apart and they had to move to northern Dublin, a very undesirable and unpleasant area to live in. In spite of having a out of order household with an alcoholic father and unreliable income and finances, Joyce went to a prestigious Jesuit high school and excelled there. Joyce then went on to college and transcended. With all these past experiences, Joyce had learned the ways of living without the concern of money and had also learned the ways of living with the concern of money and making ends meet. This situation was not rare, for in fact, it happened to many denizens of Dublin. With this outlook and standpoint on life, Joyce was compelled to write the tales of his miserable contemporaries. • 6. Camille Pissarro s Apple Harvest In Europe Apple Harvest in Europe Introduction Apple Harvest is a painting created by a French artist named Camille Pissarro in 1888. The artwork is derived from the European culture focusing on the style of neo impressionism or pointillism. The painting is made with the use of oil on canvas and currently located inside the Dallas Museum of Art in second floor in the section of European art. It depicts a lively image of farmers engaging in their daily activities where they are picking apples on a sunny day. The background of the landscape consists of a huge ranch with additional apple trees that gives a vibration of harvesting season. Similarly, it is a form of a representational artwork portraying physical labor by the farmers during that period. Camille Pissarro seemed to support the farmers of low social status and believed in hard work as some of his artworks are the representations of lives of these social groups (Dallas Museum of Art 2017). In the painting Apple Harvest , he tries to picture working peasants in an apple farm in the French Countryside (Dallas Museum of Art 2017). This paper is an integration of the analysis of formal elements and principles relevant to the art work Apple Harvest and my experience of observation of this piece of art at the Dallas Museum of Art including a reflection upon the visit. Discuss the pros and cons of implementing a nationwide road pricing scheme The introduction of a nationwide road pricing scheme has been extensively considered in the UK. Early deliberations in the Smeed Report implemented road pricing in 1962 using a colour coding system. With computing and telecommunications changes in recent years there is potential for the road pricing scheme, which was a component of the labour manifesto in 2005 using satellite navigation to track vehicle activity, to be developed and implemented. The concept of introducing a market for roads through road pricing has become a highly discussed topic due to the complexity of the operation and how it could revolutionise the actions of drivers in the future with a ... People in a lower income bracket will be the ones who are hit hardest and have to change their driving behaviour as the road pricing is independent of income, exhibiting price inelasticity. This increase in inequality which could be a result of road pricing can be illustrated using the Lorenz curve which shows the distribution of wealth, with increased inequality leading to a shift away from the line of equality as shown by the arrow showing a higher proportion of income going to a smaller proportion of people. There is a correlation between work flexibility and income so people with less income will have to pay the peak time charges and the Lorenz curve will shift. As the main aim of the scheme is to reduce congestion people may feel as though they are being Priced off the roads. The Gini Co efficient shows distribution between households, it was recorded that following the London Toll introduction, the co efficient increased from 0.2778 to 0.2785. The remains of Circus Maximus lie in the Valley between the Aventine and Palentine hill. • 10. The Human Response On An Ignition Hole For The Vehicle Essay The focus of this paper is to highlight the human response in relation to an action, in this case turning the key in an ignition, once it has been inserted into the correct ignition hole for the vehicle. The aim is to identify the brain response with the haptic perceptions and to a lesser extent the visual perceptions that are involved when completing the instruction set. Before I begin to explain how we complete this instruction I would like to explain some functions of our brain and how it relates to completing this task. Before anything can begin the process to turn the key in the ignition must begin with the decision to complete the task. The area responsible is called the prefrontal cortex (PFC) which is the cerebral cortex located in the frontal lobe. Although this area is implicated in planning complex cognitive behaviour, personality expression, decision making and moderating social behaviour (Yang, 2009) we are primarily interested in its effect on decision making in relation to our instruction set chosen. This region of the brain is considered to be responsible for alignment of thoughts and actions in accordance with internal goals, in this case getting the key to the ignition and turning the key the appropriate amount to complete the action of turning on the vehicle. Another area of the brain responsible for assisting in the completion of our task is the premotor cortex also lying in the frontal lobe just anterior to the primary motor cortex. It is like reverse psychology in a way for example if something is good in Screwtape then it is bad in reality or if something is a setback it is actually a victory in struggles against evil ( Brown 177). Lewis then talked about his idea of the devil ; he does not believe the devil is the opposite force against God, rather he says it is angels that have become bad. As well as this the institution of the court system also created Australia s own doctrine of precedence. In 1828 the British Parliament enacted the Australian Courts Act (Vines p.174) which stated that all applicable common laws and statutes in force in England on the 28th of July 1828, would apply in the colony. I begged and begged them to join but they kept saying no. Please join Track. I ll be so lonely if you don t, I told them beggingly. No, we said we didn t want to, they stated sternly. I didn t let this stop me though I pestered them until one of them finally said that they would join. Because of this I was ecstatic that I would not feel lonely. Chapter one begins with Locke restating what his arguments were in the First Treatise. Locke also gives his position on Sir Robert Filmer s teachings. Locke s first point was that Adam did not have authority over his children nor over the world which would have been given from God. There is no possible way for someone to claim they are in relation to Adam based off of a supposed source of evidence. Being that Adam does not have actual indication of his family lineage, there is no proof that Adam or any supposedly family member, would have the power to rule anyway. To simply put Locke s definition, he defines this as, men being in a natural state and having the privilege to do everything they please as long as it doesn t go against the law. This law states that everyone is equal to one another. No man is more powerful than another man. Nevertheless, that does not give any man to abuse his equality over another mans equality, the naturalness of law still continues in a state of nature. In the bible it states that everyone is equal unless God says otherwise. He also goes into detail about how we as humans have no right to destroy our bodies, for example suicide. Locke claims that we are all independent beings so we should all take value to our lives. He also claims that no one else should harm any other person s possessions, health or liberty, simply because that bible says so. As for law breakers, Locke states that anyone who commits a crime, the law is subjected to punish lawbreakers as sternly as needed. The punishment of a crime is only acceptable if the consequences are equal to the crime committed. And if such a crime is committed and the consequences should follow, punish them unto the law not unto your own will. However if man has murkered another man, the law has the right to kill the murderer. By taking a man s life away, this is setting an example for others who watch the punishment to discourage them from making that same mistake in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Early warbands consisting of one to five ships limited their expeditions to swift hit and run strikes on coastal settlements and religious centers of Britain, Ireland, and France that came with little to no warning.
