The Importance Of Human Nature In Of Mice And Men
Stories and other literary forms are often used to showcase different aspects of human nature. John
Steinbeck uses the story Of Mice and Men to display the truth behind human aspirations and
emotions. Steinbeck exhibits both the kindness and the cruelty that lies within everyone. Through both
symbolism and direct statements, the readers can understand the different struggles and motives of
each character. Of Mice and Men shows the world through the perspective of many people from
different backgrounds, including workers, women, the mentally ill, and colored people. Though the
characters appear drastically different, they all have dreams and yearn to belong. In Of Mice and Men,
Steinbeck is trying to show the importance of friendship, the impossibility of the American dream, and
the discrimination in the 1930 s. Many characters in the story go without friendship, causing them to
feel alone in the world. George and Lennie are the only characters introduced that stick together.
George and Lennie say multiple times that we got a future. We got somebody to talk to that gives a
damn about us (Steinbeck 14). Their friendship is what makes them different from all of the other men
because they have someone else to rely on. On the contrary, Slim and the other men in the workhouse
travel alone. Slim explains that hardly none of the guys ever travel together.... You know how the
hands are, they just come in and get their bunk and work a month, and then they quit and go out alone

My Prank Friend
My best friend, Ashley, and I have been known to get into some serious trouble together. We have
gotten in so much trouble that our parents would not allow us to see each other for a while, but we are
still best friends despite that. We have learned some serious lessons together. One blazing hot,
Alabama, summer day Ashley and I, who were around eight at the time, were playing at my house
when we learned a very important lesson which we still regret to this day. We decided to prank call a
family friend who had a daughter our age. That day we made a poor decision, went through with the
prank call, and both ended up in serious trouble while learning an important lesson.
Since it was such a sweltering summer day, Ashley and I decided not to play outside, but that usually
meant trouble for us. We spent the majority of the day watching YouTube videos on my third
generation iPod Touch and sneaking around getting into my mom s makeup. In one of the videos we
watched a man was making prank calls, and we decided we wanted to be like him by making our own
prank calls. We decided to go ask my mom if it would be okay to do this, but she, of course, told us
absolutely not. Since we were two extremely stubborn, bored girls we decided to make the prank calls
anyway, but we had to figure out how. We watched, even more, videos on prank calling, and we
thought we were set even though we really had no clue what we were doing. Since we thought we
were prepared to make what would turn out

Basterds Is Quentin Tarantino s Sixth Of Eight Films
Inglorious Basterds is Quentin Tarantino s sixth of eight films his filmography and is in many aspects,
the perfect culmination of what makes a Tarantino film a Tarantino film. From the deep cultural
references in the dialogue to the unforgivingly in your face, some may even say offensive, violence
throughout, there s no mistaking who s eyes you re seeing the world through. Although it misses on
some key points such as pacing and leaves some questions left to assumption, Inglorious Basterds
character driven plot and use of dialect is more than enough to make up for its shortcomings. As
someone who has seen all eight Tarantino films, and most multiple times, it is safe to say that
Inglorious Basterds is a solid and memorable addition to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throw in a runaway Jewish girl living in Nazi occupied France, a few of Tarantino s signature twists
and turns along the way, and you have a recipe for a great World War II adventure film. Inglorious
Basterds most entertaining success is the depth of motives each character displays. Inglorious Basterds
is not a cliché World War II movie about the battles between good and evil. Instead, Tarantino elects to
operate in the much larger, much more enjoyable gray space that lies somewhere in the middle. For
example, in one scene early on in the movie, Raine asks a surrendered Nazi soldier to point out on a
map the location of some German snipers in the town next on the Allies path. The soldier declines. A
great military mind would probably be able to get a good idea of the snipers locations just by knowing
his opponent and their tactics. At the very least, a great military mind would be able to work with the
soldier verbally and get the information he desires. Yet, at no point in the film are we lead to believe
that Raine is a great military mind. Instead, Raine elects for a more unconventional method of
attaining information and reminds the surrendered soldier that he s not in the prisoner taking business,
but rather in the Nazi killing business before giving the soldier one last chance to point out the snipers
and keep his life. The soldier declines. With a handful of other German

War On Poverty
Fifty Years Later the War Poverty

In 1964 President Lyndon B. Johnson declared a war on poverty on the United States of America; in
his state of the union address he declared that Our aim is not only to relieve the symptoms of poverty,
but to cure it and above all to prevent it. Fifty years later 46 million Americans live in poverty in
households where the government considers their income scarcely adequate (Lowrey, 2014). President
Barack Obama has called inequality the defining challenge of our time (Lowrey, 2014). The question
remains on what is the war on poverty? Whether America has indeed won or lost this war? With

Rhetorical Analysis Of Introduction In The Assault On...
The Introduction in the Assault on Reason by Al Gore unveils the undermined matter of the public not
being adequately informed and addressing how the democratic system in the America is deteriorating.
His remarks impact the readers with the usage of anaphora, simile, alliteration and fallacy. Gores
purpose is to give his visionary truth as a member of the governmental system. He gives a revealing
and explanatory tone in order to help the public reestablish their own administrative rule as a citizen
and protect democracy from future corruption. Gore uses anaphora to make it apparent that there is a
distortion in media. He points blame on the people of America by using the repetition of we when
stating that the tactics in our legislation are not at fault. (2) The government was created so people can

Narrative Style And Film Analysis Of The Grand Budapest Hotel
The Grand Budapest Hotel revolves around Europe of the 1930s and 1960s while it was in time of the
war, through the adventures of The Grand Budapest Hotel s doorman Zero and the Hotel manager
Gustave. The saga is linked to a burglar and a Renaissance painting, a great family s wealth war, and
the sudden change of war in Europe. It reflects the vicissitudes of political history in Europe for half a
century. This article will analyze The Grand Budapest Hotel from two aspects: artistic style and film
theme.
I. Artistic style
The Grand Budapest Hotel is the work of American director Wes Anderson. His works have a strong
personal style: bright colour, the full symmetry of the composition, a straight frame, a deliberately
orderly stance, unique visual style and narrative mode. In his film, a sense of humour is often through
Deadpan expression: actors often deadpan and no body movements, but in the restraint and slight
change, as well as in the pause between the odd cold humour. The hues, props and sets of his films are
often colourful and whimsical. There are still plenty of these factors in The Grand Budapest Hotel, but
many new elements are added.
1. Narrative mode
In terms of the overall structure of the film, this film breaks through the previous single line narrative
mode, using four layers of nested narrative structure, layer by layer, and without any lack of
independence. The first level is a little girl went to the cemetery to worship writer s grave, she put the
key to hanging on the writer statue, and took out a book called The Grand Budapest Hotel , she turned
to the end of the book, the book was printed with pictures of writer; the second level is the story of the
girl who began to pay tribute to the author in the cemetery. The third level is in The Grand Budapest
Hotel, where old Zero tells his story to a young man. Time and space returned to Zero when Zero was
young, and this began the journey of Zero and Mr. Gustave, this is the fourth level of narrative mode.
Skip the middle specific storyline and go straight to the end. Gustave s last moments are in black and
white. Then, when the writer was young, he ended his conversation with Zero, and the writer was
sitting in the lobby of The Grand

Pressure groups are groups which use pressure by methods such as campaigning to influence the
government to change or amend laws. Pressure groups work by the power in numbers ideal, and are a
means for members of the public to express their opinions and concerns with a greater chance of being
heard. Due to this they are deemed democratic by nature. One of these groups is People for the Ethical

often criticised for offensive advertising, they have a wide following and their successes are always

on environmental and ecological matters such as climate change, food, biodiversity. They have
recently celebrated a fracking bid being thrown out in Lancashire after campaigning for four years.

Imagine if you lived in a perfect community that has been around for years but you realize your father

At the beginning of the book Jonas s dad seems like a good person and a father who has a job he
loves. He also follows all the rules in the community without complaining like when he requests for
things instead of just going ahead and doing things. Having the assignment of nurturer was always a

My Career Path
Life works in mysterious ways, and my path has led me to pursue a career in the Social Work field.
My last two years of high school were unique because I was a full time dual enrolled student, which
allowed me to graduate with both my high school diploma and my Associate of Arts degree. Now I am
twenty years old and will be graduating with my Bachelor s in Psychology. Upon entering my
undergraduate program, I had some idea of what career path I wanted to follow. I had taken many
entry level psychology courses while pursuing my Associate of Arts degree and it peaked my interest.
At first, I wanted to be a guidance counselor and then I contemplated being a mental health counselor.
It was not until I took a course the first year of my undergraduate career that I knew my future career
path. The course I took was Issues in Culture and Society with a concentration in Death and Dying. In
that class, I learned how beautiful death can be and how important it is for someone to have a good
death. The class also gave me information on grieving for all ages and how to help individuals
experiencing grief and this is when I decided to become a bereavement counselor. My mother died
when I was seven and I had to grieve in silence, so I want to help others with their grief, so they do not
have a similar experience to mine.
In order to accomplish my aspiration as a bereavement counselor, I knew I needed to gain experience
in the area of bereavement. I began an internship in an organization

Appalachian Spring Concert Report
Exposition IV: An Appalachian Spring, is a performance of various musicians within Virginia Tech s
School of Performing Arts. The event took place at Moss Arts Center in the Anne and Ellen Fife
theater, with musicians stationed on stage and on the side balconies. A different instrument section
played each segment of the performance, including: horn ensemble, string ensemble, bassoonists,
percussion ensemble, jazz ensemble, the Linux Laptop Orchestra, Kinect sensor and computer, and
male and female choirs. This exposition was held in order to benefit the performing arts scholarship
program at Virginia Tech, but it seemed that the performance had the goal of showing off the
individual ensemble s talents, and, in the end, combining those talents.
Growing up in the Appalachians, I have had plenty of experience with bluegrass and folk, and the
wide range of the culture that has had influences on the music. Due to my background, I ve heard two
of the three songs which were being adapted. I attended the exposition curious to see how Bigler

Toussaint LOuverture Analysis
Toussaint L Ouverture essay
This eloquent by Wendell Phillips speech takes a journey back to Toussaint L Ouverture s time as
being the most powerful Haitian leader. The timing of this speech is impeccable because it is prior to
the Civil War, during which there was simmering debate over African American military service. The
speech is primarily aimed at northerners but it can also be interpreted as a stern message or rebuke to
southerners. The key goal of the speech is to persuade northerners that African Americans would make
a valuable addition to the Union army. Phillips is a white abolitionist himself, which establishes a
sense of ethos. Throughout the speech Phillips asserts that despite history being against Toussaint L
Ouverture, he is a man of honor and is above all the rest. This is achieved by outlining his little known
accomplishments and humble beginnings.
Phillips argues that despite many odds, he routs the British, the French, and the Spaniards: from the
reluctant testimony of Britons, Frenchmen, Spaniards As a result of these numerous European defeats,
history is reluctantly written to acknowledge the losses suffered by Europe and the triumph of the
Haitians. This helps the audience understand that L Ouverture is not be underestimated, which then
enables a sense of reverence for L Ouverture. Phillips goes on to argue that L Ouverture is self made
and was victorious by virtue of his own skills: [Toussaint] forged a thunderbolt and hurled it This

Cross-Culture Communication In Things Fall Apart By Chinua...
When reading two different books, it is quite possible to apply an idea from one to the other. If a
character in a book acted differently in situations, it would change the outcome of the whole book.
Cosmopolitanism s idea of cross culture communication is split into different parts with the ideas that
one should respect others even when they are strangers, one must not hold others to such high
expectations, and one may be connected to different people who come from different cultures through
the same idea. The character Mr. Smith, in Things Fall Apart, replaces Mr. Brown as the Christian
missionary in Umuofia, who runs the church. He is a strict white man who is not understanding to
Umuofia s culture. When one applies Kwame Anthony Appiah s idea of cross culture communication
in Cosmopolitanism to the character, Mr. Smith, in Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart, this character
changes by accepting other beliefs, including everyone no matter their status, and continuing as Mr.
Brown would have. The first idea of cross cultural communication is that one must not hold others to
such high expectations, which relates to Mr. Smith in the sense that when he enters Umuofia he
believed that all of the Christian followers should know and believe in all aspects of Christianity. This
is not following the cosmopolitanism idea because he holds the newfound Christians to such high
expectations, in the sense that he thinks they should know everything about the religion. Mr. Smith

Analysis Of Marriot International And Marketing Management
According to Davenport (2006), an analytics competitor has the capabilities of gaining insight based
on a consumer s consumption to better make business decisions while optimizing the business
processes. Many top organizations such as Amazon, Capital One and even the Boston Red Sox have
implemented programs that allow for their company to better determine the products and prices of
products that appeal to consumers. These programs also provide companies with the power to
determine how to market, based upon the consumer s fluctuating income and its influence over the
rising and falling of demand and supply chains. While this process of collecting and processing data
may be beneficial to the company, the data gathered should be collected in an ethical manner.
(Davenport, 2006, p.99 100) As noted earlier, there are many organizations who have mastered the
skill set of becoming an analytics competitor. Some companies have implemented the approach taken
by Marriot International. Marriot International has not only mastered the revenue management, it has
become one of the top analytics competitors because of its ability to efficiently use its Total Hotel
Optimization program. The program allows for Marriot International to expand their quantitative
expertise far beyond establishing room prices to allow for the program to be used in areas such as

The Importance Of Classical Literature
Classical Literature A classic is a book that has never finished saying what it has to say. Italo Calvino
Why should people read classical literature? Classics are relevant to today s time because they teach
us the value, they help us understand history and culture, you can read and re read them, and they help
us understand how we got our literature today. Classics are also entertaining and will continue to be
read throughout generations. We should read classical literature because classical literature has value.
The value is important to our culture because it shows how we got to our literature today and shows
how far we have come. The story Orpheus and Eurydice is a good example of value and morality
because Orpheus tries to get his wife back and fails. The Fates tell Orpheus not to look back at her
until they are back home. Orpheus looked back at Eurydice and when he looked back at her he lost her
for good. This story is a good example of value because it teaches us value and how we should
appreciate what we have and appreciate the second chances we get in life. The history and culture
behind classical literature is our history because it helped us get to where we are now and shows how
we wrote and told our stories. The history in classical literature can be true or sometimes true. With
myths, some of the stories have some truth in them or the story really happened but if that is the case,
most of the time the storyteller makes assumptions about the event. In the

There are three main Native American tribes in South Carolina. They were known as the Cherokee,
Catawba, and Yemassee. The Cherokee was a tribe of Native Americans called the real people located

daily lives. Their summer homes allowed air to flow through to make it cooler, and their winter homes
were built with thick walls made of clay and grass called duab to keep it warmer. Men poisoned the
fishing water with walnut bark so the fish would float to the top and be easier to catch. Men and
women were allowed to be leaders of the council to make decisions for the tribe. The holy man could

adopted to keep warm during the winter months. Native Americans also knew how to prepare the
Carolina soil for crops using the slash and burn method. They introduced many new staple crops to the
European settlers and some of them would turn into cash crops for the Europeans. Native American
men would hunt and fish and the women would tend the crops, make clothes out of animal pelts, and
raise the children. They also introduced new weapons and tools to the Europeans made out of rocks.
One of the greatest impacts Native Americans left on the Carolina Colonies that still exists to this day
is the use of tobacco as a major cash crop. Today, tobacco is a billion dollar business that has affected

Examining Government Regulations Essay
Examining Government Regulations Assignment
The current government regulations I researched pertain to the clinical guidelines and the civil rights
of persons living with HIV/AIDS in Portland, Oregon. Many people living with HIV/AIDS, at some
point during their illness, find themselves in need of housing assistance and support services. Stable
housing promotes improved health, sobriety or decreased use of alcohol and illegal drugs, and, for
some, a return to paid employment and productive social activities. As the number of people living
with HIV/AIDS continues to grow in both urban and rural areas throughout the United States,
stakeholders must find new ways to address their needs to promote the health and well being of these
individuals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2. Confidentiality Concerns
The need to maintain client confidentiality restricts the ways that OHOP housing coordinators and
other organizations and individuals can publicize their activities and resources.
3. Limited Staff Capacity and Knowledge
HIV Care and Treatment staff may lack familiarity with aspects of partner systems, including
affordable housing, and have limited resources and time to conduct marketing and outreach to
potential partners and planning bodies. Discrimination adds to the daily struggles faced by the
growing number of people living with HIV/AIDS in the United States people who are predominantly
poor and disproportionately African American or Latino. Every agency s biggest problems facing their
clients involve meeting basic needs coping with poverty, hunger, illiteracy, inadequate medical care,
lack of transportation, and homelessness. In addition to those basic needs issues, people with HIV face
a series of critical civil rights problems. Individuals living with HIV/AIDS need to know their rights
and need the resources to advocate for themselves when their rights are threatened. They also need
national legal organizations like the ACLU AIDS Project to enforce their civil rights and civil

My Best Friend In My Life
Everyone has that best friend they believe they will have forever, they plan out their future together,
but that can all come crashing down. That is what happened with Jason James and I. Jason was once
my best friend, practically a brother, we did everything together. I was always there for him, in the
times when he needed someone the most. Jason James suffered from depression, like me. Because I
knew exactly what he was going through, we became close. But there was always something off about
our friendship. It was always about him. One day I got a text from Jason saying he needed to get out
of the house and just talk. I, of course, sprang to action. I picked him up and we got ice cream and
talked. I let him talk through what was going on, and gave him the advice he needed. Then a couple
days later I was having a rough day, and I just wanted someone to talk to, I texted Jason hoping he
could help. He said he would come over, and be with me. But when he got there all he did was talk
about him. Everything I would say he would turn it around and make it about him. Although this did
not happen all the time, it did most often. Jason James was a negative influence on my life because our
friendship was only about him, he blamed me for every problem he faced, and he never truly cared.
My friendship with Jason James was always centered around him. I was the one who was constantly
there for him when he needed me. With our friendship I could tell when he was upset or needed

The Lion s Body
Introduction: The Panthera Leo, also known as the lion, is a member of the cat family, and shares
many common traits of this family. The lion s body is very muscular, with less bone mass than other
animals of comparable size. This allows the lion to make powerful blows with its forepaws heavy
enough to break a zebra s back. Each paw has soft pads to make its movements quiet enough to sneak
up on prey. Lions walk on their toes which means they are digitigrade walkers. The claws on the paw
grow as a series of layers. As a layer wears, the layers shed, and a new sharp pointed claw is then
exposed. The lion s body is covered with a brown coat, but sometimes, a white variant that shows up.

When a lion kills/threatens a farmer or a rancher s livelihood, that individual is likely to poach or
poison the lion in retaliation. Farmers and Ranchers are more likely to kill the lion to make sure they
won t their crops or livestock don t get threatened. Moreover, conservation groups work with people
living in lion territories, educating them about the lion s ecological importance, and developing cheap
ways to protect their subsistence.
Evidence of Evolution:
The lion s most common and recent ancestor lived around 124,000 years ago. Learning about the lion
s history has been difficult since animals living in tropical areas tend to leave fewer fossilized remains
behind. Around the time of the earliest lion s ancestor (124,000 years ago), tropical rainforests
expanded across equatorial Africa, and the Sahara region started turning into the savannah. Lions
living in the south and east of the continent became separated from, and had began to diverge from,
those who were living in the west and north. Then 73,000 years later, the continent dried and the
Sahara expanded, isolating off the lions in the west from those in the north.
At the same time, lions on the west expanded their range into Central Africa, which became more
inhabitable. At the end of the Pleistocene period, lions left North Africa, eventually reaching as far as
India. This meant that southern and

Essay On Invasive Species
Introduction Paragraph:
What is an invasive species? I believe an invasive species is an animal that has either come to a new
environment on purpose or accident and caused harm by doing so. I became interested in this topic
because animals are interesting to me. I did not consider any other topics. When I saw the topic I
immediately went to research it. I knew bits and pieces of some stories invasive species give. New
invasive species come every day because of humans and their ideas on what is best.
The Search:
When searching this subject, all I searched for on google was invasive species. Looking at the
websites listed, most of them, I found, gave me the same information, almost word for word. This
troubled me until I bumped into a website that was made by the National Wildlife Federation. The
website listed is the website I used for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Fruits of My Search: My biggest concern and surprise that caught me off guard when searching
this topic was that most of the animals seem harmless at first, but then they turn into an enemy to me
by the end because of what they have caused. The article I cited above states, Approximately 42% of
Threatened or Endangered species are at risk primarily due to invasive species. This is nerve racking.
It is basically saying that 42% of threatened and endangered species became that way because of
invasive species. Another concept that I thought was interesting, was the fact that us humans are
invasive. Invasive species are species that invade a new habitat. We have done that many times. Think
of the place we are right now, North America. Explorers came to north america to find native
americans and harsh conditions, so obviously we were not striving in the new land. With time our
population grew and soon we drove out almost the entire native american existence. One thing that

To his Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell and The Flea by John Donne
Two of the poems in Best Words are seduction poems, rather than love poems. These are To his coy
mistress by Andrew Marvell and The
Flea by John Donne. Compare these two poems by analysing:
· Each poets intention
· Form of the poem
· Language used in the poem
· Your reaction to the unromantic poems.
Let me not to the marriage of true minders/Admit impediments, love is not love , is one of many
famous love sonnets written by William

This simply means that his mistress doesn t like to get into nothing with her master. Where as in The
flea , Donne only has one goal, which in this case is sex. He uses the flea because the flea has made
them almost married because of the exchange of blood. This is shown by the flea sucked me and
sucked you blood mingled. It is evident that by using the flea and saying how the flea has married
them, now gives Donne the power to follow out his intention, and become in control again of his
mistress. Although in the poem s their mistress soon relents, making the poet s argument successful.
This balancing act of power has then been further complicated in
Donne s The flea where it is not simply a care of bedding his lady.
Donne is more apprehensive about his intellectual powers, when he says, Cruel and sudden, hast thou
since . This quotation has revealed that Donne sees that his act of seduction being prefaced by a battle
of wits. But his mistress reveals to him with her skills. As she argues back, Find st not thyself nor me
the weaker now . Despite this rally Donne tries to win the argument by saying, Just so much honour,
when thou yield s to/ will waste, as this flea s death took life from thee. Although both poets intention
is the same to seduce their mistress, there is a subtle difference between the two poems. We know this
because he says in, To his coy mistress , Marvell

Lilly s Long Term Debt Ratio
2011. Pfizer s debt ratio has also been above the benchmark since 2009, but it has been lower than
Lilly s.
Lilly s long term debt to equity ratio was over the benchmark during the year 2008 and 2009 but
stayed below 1.0 in the other years. It should be noted that Lilly s debt ratio has declined during the
period, whereas, Pfizer s increased. Although, Lilly s long term debt to equity ratio appears to be
good, its total debt to equity ratio, which is much more comprehensive, is above the reasonable limit
and indicates that the firm has more debt than equity. Thus, weakening its long term financial position.

level inherent risks for Lilly s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Management Incentives
Eli Lilly is a profitable company and is one of the top pharmaceutical firms. The company has faced
losses in the year 2008 but appears to have been recovering strongly. While Lilly has much lower
earnings than its competitor, Pfizer, Lilly s ROA and ROE are substantially higher than Pfizer.
However, Lilly s earnings fell by 14.2% in the year 2011, and ROA and ROE also fell during the
period. Its P/E ratio fell substantially since 2008 due to the market s lack of optimism about Lilly s
future. Lilly s management is under considerable pressure to reverse the declining trend. Thus,
management would have incentives to manipulate the areas of accounting that require judgment call
like revenue recognition policies and valuation allowances to boost in earnings in 2011.
Account level Inherent Risk
Valuation Allowances
Accounts Receivable The comparison of Lilly s days receivables with changes in their valuation
allowance reveals an unusual pattern. During 2009 Lilly s days receivable increased, but its valuation
allowance decreased. This was a year after the company incurred losses, this could have been a
management attempt to increase net income to help demonstrate company s recovery. During the year
2011, Lilly s days receivable fell slightly while its allowance increased by 0.8 percentage points.
However, this pattern is inconsistent

Strength: Amtelecom Communications is the sole provider of local telephone services in all of its
exchanges and a leading provider of long distance and data services in the majority of his exchanges.
As a sole provider of some services, Amtelecom Communications ensures the constant revenue and
customers. Its subsidiary, Amtelecom Cable inc. has eight stand alone systems exempt from licensing.
The cost advantage ensures the leading position of Amtelecom Communications.
Weakness: Amtelecom Communication s telecommunication business occupies 90 percent of its all
business. If there is an unforeseeable risk occurring in telecommunications, the company may suffer
devastating loss. Company should focus more on new growth point, such as internet and service
innovation.
4. Assess the value of Amtelecom Communications using available valuation methods including DCF
and multiples. Which valuation method is most suitable for each sales alternative? What are the
expected net proceeds for each sales alternative?
Because the management of AGI expects to complete the acquisition by early 2003, the valuation of
the Amtelecom Communication should be calculated for 31 Dec, 2002. In order to calculate the NPV
of Amtelecom Communication during the planning period, we first use pro forma

People aged 18 to 29 were among the groups most likely to say lying was sometimes ok. Lying can
sometimes be ok when used for a good purpose. In article 1, It s the Truth: Americans Conflicted

This quote from Article 1 suggests that when someone is in need of help it is ok to lie. The quote also
makes you think of how lying can benefit someone other than yourself. As said in article 3, Brad

Rhetorical Analysis Of Haruki Murakami s Colorless...
Readers heavily associate famed Japanese author Haruki Murakami with the genre of magical realism
and consider his novel Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage to be a departure from
that genre, but realism hardly characterizes Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and its multitude of fantastical
elements. Readers encounter dreams that ambiguously blend into reality, characters who straddle
multiple realities, and a narrative that unabashedly abandons a linear and chronological structure.
Even Murakami s protagonist Tsukuru struggles to maintain a clear sense of reality within his life.
Ultimately, Murakami s conception of an objective reality is a mirage solid and unwavering from afar

Murakami creates an intersection between these two antithetical realities through Shiro s pregnancy.
After her rape allegedly by Tsukuru Shiro becomes pregnant. Her pregnancy represents a junction
between the two realities because it is a real and physical consequence that manifests in Tsukuru s
reality based on an act committed in Shiro s reality. Although Murakami presents the reality in which
Tsukuru is the victim first, he never fully gives one reality preeminence over the other as the plot
unfolds. Instead, even Tsukuru finds himself unable to pick which of these realities represents an
objective truth. Furthermore, Murakami prevents his audience from assuming the supremacy of either
Tsukuru or Shiro s realities by paralleling their journeys as victims. After his friends abandon him,
Tsukuru loses his appetite and consequently loses a massive amount of weight. Similarly, after her
assault, Shiro develops such a severe eating disorder that at one point [...] she was down to under
ninety pounds (Murakami 252). Moreover, Tsukuru develops an unwavering obsession with his own
death during his depression, and, likewise, their childhood friend Kuro equates Shiro s death with
committing suicide (Murakami 257) because she no longer had the will to live even before her murder.
The most poignant parallel Murakami introduces between Tsukuru and Shiro s journeys as victims is
that after Shiro s assault, she d lost her glow

Rida K Liamsi Poetry Analysis
Viva Maritime within Rida K Liamsi s Poetry
The notion of maritime is one of themes frequently brought up by a poet. Energetic enthusiasm in
facing life in maritime society has inspired poets to write a conception about maritime. This research
aims at analyzing maritime concept included within four poetry by Rida K Liamsi, namely Laut,
Tempuling, Pancang Nibung I, and Kemejan. Descriptive method is used in order to explain maritime
concept contained in those four poetry. The research result shows that those four poetry raise about the
rigorous of life obstacles inside maritime territory. These poetry are yielded on the basis of Malay
eagerness to live in a maritime zone. These Malays are depicted to struggle with never give up spirit in
confronting life cycle. Though in every fight results win and failure, the Malay people never surrender

Introversion In The Mid-17th Century
In the seventeen years that I ve been alive, I have relished spending my days in a very particular
manner. Alone. And that s not to say that spending time with my closest friends has never brought me
pleasure; our late nights at wrestling competitions, playing video games, just shooting the breeze are
some of my most enjoyable memories. It s just that there s something soothing about solitary reading,
quiet introspection, and exercising alone toward which I gravitate. According to my mom it s because

And in a competitive culture that reveres alpha dogs, one downmanship is probably the most damning
trait of all. THAT is why I find it so important to separate the concept of introversion from shyness: To
dispel any notion of weakness, to deny any perception of social disadvantage, and to debunk the idea
that introverts are in any way incapable of being functional members of society. After all, I m a living

Potential Market for marketing
Due to the unique nature of the association(as a self financed social enterprise), the potential market
for the association should not quite different to normal private companies/ profit making
organizations. The potential market for the association should be surely the seniors in need in the
community, but also the generous donors, volunteers, the media and even the Government. Their

Quality Issues in Project Management
QUALITY ISSUES IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT
1. Introduction
There are a number of issues surrounding the general area of quality in project management. You will
need to be aware of some of the requirements of PRINCE (or PRINCE2) as well as the more general
aspects of the ISO 9000 and 14000 series.
2. Quality requirements as part of PRINCE
PRINCE2 (Projects in Controlled Environments) was revised from PRINCE in 1996 and is the
accepted standard for the control of projects in the computing area of the public sector. It is also
widely used outside this sector as a way of formalising project control procedures.
It lays down 8 key processes concerning (content generally obvious):
1. Directing of the project.
2. Planning of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We should also be aware of the ISO 14000 which covers legislative requirements with respect to
environmental impacts. This is relevant, in parts, to projects and their impacts.
4. The Prince2 Quality Plan/Manual:
The quality plan needs to cover in detail several key aspects of project control:
How quality criteria will be set?
What measures are to be taken to prevent the occurrence of faults or variances?
What will be done to detect and correct any faults/variances that do occur?
What tests/procedures will be used to demonstrate that quality criteria are being met?
What review and follow up procedures will be used?
Who will perform the quality control work?
What documentation will be produced by the process?
5. The Prince2 Quality Review and Log:
This might be the most important part of quality control in your PRINCE2 project. The aim is to find
any errors, deviations from standards or omissions in the task or stage once it is claimed to be finished
or at any other agreed point.
It is a face to face meeting (of no more than two hours) which should allow early error or variance
trapping. It consists of preparation, review and follow up procedures.
A quality log is kept of all invitations, attendees, results, corrective actions and sign offs. This log can
then be inspected as an audit trail by the user/stakeholder/client or by any independent quality
assurance agency in event of any disputes.

The Flag On The Island Essay
binary oppositions in V.S. Naipaul s short story The Flag on the Island . This aim is achieved via using
Derrida s deconstruction and Bhabha s definition of these terms. Considering culture as a means of
domination to get possession of control over the instruments of collective self definition is considered
as a very significant policy in the political and cultural conflict for emancipation. This article focuses
on a tension between recently autonomous nation and former colonial beliefs which results in
binarism between modern and traditional values that led to the denigration of non Western cultures.
Therefore, the writer attempts to show how the characters of this story make effort to abolish this idea
and retrieve the local and native traditions that were destructed during colonialism. This study
concentrates on all characters and examines their contradictions and their effort for consistency that
can be discussed through a deconstructive analysis.
Key words: Mimicry, Colonialism, Post colonialism, Binary opposition, Culture.
Introduction
The Flag on the Island is one of the creative works of V.S. Naipaul which originates from his
experience from his own birthplace and challenges the concepts of Self and Other that have been
constructed during the colonialism. This story was written at the beginning of postcolonial period

  • 2. The Importance Of Human Nature In Of Mice And Men Stories and other literary forms are often used to showcase different aspects of human nature. John Steinbeck uses the story Of Mice and Men to display the truth behind human aspirations and emotions. Steinbeck exhibits both the kindness and the cruelty that lies within everyone. Through both symbolism and direct statements, the readers can understand the different struggles and motives of each character. Of Mice and Men shows the world through the perspective of many people from different backgrounds, including workers, women, the mentally ill, and colored people. Though the characters appear drastically different, they all have dreams and yearn to belong. In Of Mice and Men, Steinbeck is trying to show the importance of friendship, the impossibility of the American dream, and the discrimination in the 1930 s. Many characters in the story go without friendship, causing them to feel alone in the world. George and Lennie are the only characters introduced that stick together. George and Lennie say multiple times that we got a future. We got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us (Steinbeck 14). Their friendship is what makes them different from all of the other men because they have someone else to rely on. On the contrary, Slim and the other men in the workhouse travel alone. Slim explains that hardly none of the guys ever travel together.... You know how the hands are, they just come in and get their bunk and work a month, and then they quit and go out alone ... • 3. My Prank Friend My best friend, Ashley, and I have been known to get into some serious trouble together. We have gotten in so much trouble that our parents would not allow us to see each other for a while, but we are still best friends despite that. We have learned some serious lessons together. One blazing hot, Alabama, summer day Ashley and I, who were around eight at the time, were playing at my house when we learned a very important lesson which we still regret to this day. We decided to prank call a family friend who had a daughter our age. That day we made a poor decision, went through with the prank call, and both ended up in serious trouble while learning an important lesson. Since it was such a sweltering summer day, Ashley and I decided not to play outside, but that usually meant trouble for us. We spent the majority of the day watching YouTube videos on my third generation iPod Touch and sneaking around getting into my mom s makeup. In one of the videos we watched a man was making prank calls, and we decided we wanted to be like him by making our own prank calls. We decided to go ask my mom if it would be okay to do this, but she, of course, told us absolutely not. Since we were two extremely stubborn, bored girls we decided to make the prank calls anyway, but we had to figure out how. We watched, even more, videos on prank calling, and we thought we were set even though we really had no clue what we were doing. Since we thought we were prepared to make what would turn out ... • 4. Basterds Is Quentin Tarantino s Sixth Of Eight Films Inglorious Basterds is Quentin Tarantino s sixth of eight films his filmography and is in many aspects, the perfect culmination of what makes a Tarantino film a Tarantino film. From the deep cultural references in the dialogue to the unforgivingly in your face, some may even say offensive, violence throughout, there s no mistaking who s eyes you re seeing the world through. Although it misses on some key points such as pacing and leaves some questions left to assumption, Inglorious Basterds character driven plot and use of dialect is more than enough to make up for its shortcomings. As someone who has seen all eight Tarantino films, and most multiple times, it is safe to say that Inglorious Basterds is a solid and memorable addition to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throw in a runaway Jewish girl living in Nazi occupied France, a few of Tarantino s signature twists and turns along the way, and you have a recipe for a great World War II adventure film. Inglorious Basterds most entertaining success is the depth of motives each character displays. Inglorious Basterds is not a cliché World War II movie about the battles between good and evil. Instead, Tarantino elects to operate in the much larger, much more enjoyable gray space that lies somewhere in the middle. For example, in one scene early on in the movie, Raine asks a surrendered Nazi soldier to point out on a map the location of some German snipers in the town next on the Allies path. The soldier declines. A great military mind would probably be able to get a good idea of the snipers locations just by knowing his opponent and their tactics. At the very least, a great military mind would be able to work with the soldier verbally and get the information he desires. Yet, at no point in the film are we lead to believe that Raine is a great military mind. Instead, Raine elects for a more unconventional method of attaining information and reminds the surrendered soldier that he s not in the prisoner taking business, but rather in the Nazi killing business before giving the soldier one last chance to point out the snipers and keep his life. The soldier declines. With a handful of other German ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Narrative Style And Film Analysis Of The Grand Budapest Hotel The Grand Budapest Hotel revolves around Europe of the 1930s and 1960s while it was in time of the war, through the adventures of The Grand Budapest Hotel s doorman Zero and the Hotel manager Gustave. The saga is linked to a burglar and a Renaissance painting, a great family s wealth war, and the sudden change of war in Europe. It reflects the vicissitudes of political history in Europe for half a century. This article will analyze The Grand Budapest Hotel from two aspects: artistic style and film theme. I. Artistic style The Grand Budapest Hotel is the work of American director Wes Anderson. His works have a strong personal style: bright colour, the full symmetry of the composition, a straight frame, a deliberately orderly stance, unique visual style and narrative mode. In his film, a sense of humour is often through Deadpan expression: actors often deadpan and no body movements, but in the restraint and slight change, as well as in the pause between the odd cold humour. The hues, props and sets of his films are often colourful and whimsical. There are still plenty of these factors in The Grand Budapest Hotel, but many new elements are added. 1. Narrative mode In terms of the overall structure of the film, this film breaks through the previous single line narrative mode, using four layers of nested narrative structure, layer by layer, and without any lack of independence. The first level is a little girl went to the cemetery to worship writer s grave, she put the key to hanging on the writer statue, and took out a book called The Grand Budapest Hotel , she turned to the end of the book, the book was printed with pictures of writer; the second level is the story of the girl who began to pay tribute to the author in the cemetery. The third level is in The Grand Budapest Hotel, where old Zero tells his story to a young man. Time and space returned to Zero when Zero was young, and this began the journey of Zero and Mr. Gustave, this is the fourth level of narrative mode. Skip the middle specific storyline and go straight to the end. Gustave s last moments are in black and white. Then, when the writer was young, he ended his conversation with Zero, and the writer was sitting in the lobby of The Grand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Finally the bureaucratic expansion model: where civil servants want to increase their own power. This model implicates a power struggle which could essentially hinder political process. Pressure groups are groups which use pressure by methods such as campaigning to influence the government to change or amend laws. Pressure groups work by the power in numbers ideal, and are a means for members of the public to express their opinions and concerns with a greater chance of being heard. My last two years of high school were unique because I was a full time dual enrolled student, which allowed me to graduate with both my high school diploma and my Associate of Arts degree. Now I am twenty years old and will be graduating with my Bachelor s in Psychology. Upon entering my undergraduate program, I had some idea of what career path I wanted to follow. I had taken many entry level psychology courses while pursuing my Associate of Arts degree and it peaked my interest. At first, I wanted to be a guidance counselor and then I contemplated being a mental health counselor. It was not until I took a course the first year of my undergraduate career that I knew my future career path. The course I took was Issues in Culture and Society with a concentration in Death and Dying. In that class, I learned how beautiful death can be and how important it is for someone to have a good death. The class also gave me information on grieving for all ages and how to help individuals experiencing grief and this is when I decided to become a bereavement counselor. My mother died when I was seven and I had to grieve in silence, so I want to help others with their grief, so they do not have a similar experience to mine. In order to accomplish my aspiration as a bereavement counselor, I knew I needed to gain experience in the area of bereavement. I began an internship in an organization ... The event took place at Moss Arts Center in the Anne and Ellen Fife theater, with musicians stationed on stage and on the side balconies. A different instrument section played each segment of the performance, including: horn ensemble, string ensemble, bassoonists, percussion ensemble, jazz ensemble, the Linux Laptop Orchestra, Kinect sensor and computer, and male and female choirs. This exposition was held in order to benefit the performing arts scholarship program at Virginia Tech, but it seemed that the performance had the goal of showing off the individual ensemble s talents, and, in the end, combining those talents. Growing up in the Appalachians, I have had plenty of experience with bluegrass and folk, and the wide range of the culture that has had influences on the music. • 15. Toussaint LOuverture Analysis Toussaint L Ouverture essay This eloquent by Wendell Phillips speech takes a journey back to Toussaint L Ouverture s time as being the most powerful Haitian leader. The timing of this speech is impeccable because it is prior to the Civil War, during which there was simmering debate over African American military service. The speech is primarily aimed at northerners but it can also be interpreted as a stern message or rebuke to southerners. The key goal of the speech is to persuade northerners that African Americans would make a valuable addition to the Union army. Phillips is a white abolitionist himself, which establishes a sense of ethos. Throughout the speech Phillips asserts that despite history being against Toussaint L Ouverture, he is a man of honor and is above all the rest. This is achieved by outlining his little known accomplishments and humble beginnings. Phillips argues that despite many odds, he routs the British, the French, and the Spaniards: from the reluctant testimony of Britons, Frenchmen, Spaniards As a result of these numerous European defeats, history is reluctantly written to acknowledge the losses suffered by Europe and the triumph of the Haitians. This helps the audience understand that L Ouverture is not be underestimated, which then enables a sense of reverence for L Ouverture. If a character in a book acted differently in situations, it would change the outcome of the whole book. Cosmopolitanism s idea of cross culture communication is split into different parts with the ideas that one should respect others even when they are strangers, one must not hold others to such high expectations, and one may be connected to different people who come from different cultures through the same idea. The character Mr. Smith, in Things Fall Apart, replaces Mr. Brown as the Christian missionary in Umuofia, who runs the church. He is a strict white man who is not understanding to Umuofia s culture. When one applies Kwame Anthony Appiah s idea of cross culture communication in Cosmopolitanism to the character, Mr. Smith, in Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart, this character changes by accepting other beliefs, including everyone no matter their status, and continuing as Mr. Brown would have. The first idea of cross cultural communication is that one must not hold others to such high expectations, which relates to Mr. Smith in the sense that when he enters Umuofia he believed that all of the Christian followers should know and believe in all aspects of Christianity. This is not following the cosmopolitanism idea because he holds the newfound Christians to such high expectations, in the sense that he thinks they should know everything about the religion. • 18. Analysis Of Marriot International And Marketing Management According to Davenport (2006), an analytics competitor has the capabilities of gaining insight based on a consumer s consumption to better make business decisions while optimizing the business processes. Many top organizations such as Amazon, Capital One and even the Boston Red Sox have implemented programs that allow for their company to better determine the products and prices of products that appeal to consumers. These programs also provide companies with the power to determine how to market, based upon the consumer s fluctuating income and its influence over the rising and falling of demand and supply chains. While this process of collecting and processing data may be beneficial to the company, the data gathered should be collected in an ethical manner. (Davenport, 2006, p.99 100) As noted earlier, there are many organizations who have mastered the skill set of becoming an analytics competitor. • 20. The Importance Of Classical Literature Classical Literature A classic is a book that has never finished saying what it has to say. Italo Calvino Why should people read classical literature? Classics are relevant to today s time because they teach us the value, they help us understand history and culture, you can read and re read them, and they help us understand how we got our literature today. Classics are also entertaining and will continue to be read throughout generations. We should read classical literature because classical literature has value. The value is important to our culture because it shows how we got to our literature today and shows how far we have come. The story Orpheus and Eurydice is a good example of value and morality because Orpheus tries to get his wife back and fails. The Fates tell Orpheus not to look back at her until they are back home. Orpheus looked back at Eurydice and when he looked back at her he lost her for good. This story is a good example of value because it teaches us value and how we should appreciate what we have and appreciate the second chances we get in life. The history and culture behind classical literature is our history because it helped us get to where we are now and shows how we wrote and told our stories. The history in classical literature can be true or sometimes true. With myths, some of the stories have some truth in them or the story really happened but if that is the case, most of the time the storyteller makes assumptions about the event. In the ... Stable housing promotes improved health, sobriety or decreased use of alcohol and illegal drugs, and, for some, a return to paid employment and productive social activities. Each paw has soft pads to make its movements quiet enough to sneak up on prey. Lions walk on their toes which means they are digitigrade walkers. The claws on the paw grow as a series of layers. Learning about the lion s history has been difficult since animals living in tropical areas tend to leave fewer fossilized remains behind. Around the time of the earliest lion s ancestor (124,000 years ago), tropical rainforests expanded across equatorial Africa, and the Sahara region started turning into the savannah. Lions living in the south and east of the continent became separated from, and had began to diverge from, those who were living in the west and north.
