Metallica Vs 1980 s
When talking about Metallica s history, is there a better decade than the 1980 s? Without it, fans
wouldn t even have the band, let alone their four greatest albums that paved the road for American
Metal. With all things to celebrate from this decade, with lots of ups and downs such as the
departure of bandmates to the death of a beloved band mate, Metallicawouldn t be what it is without
the 1980 s. Thesis: Metallica may have started out in the state of California, but they have become
famously known to many countries all across the globe.
1. In The Beginning
It was the year 1981, a young drummer by the name of Lars Ulrich has published an ad in a local
newspaper in the city of Los Angeles. In that ad, he states that he is A drummer looking... Show

It got so bad that his wife threw him out of the house because his actions at work were following
him home and she was gonna put up with it. He checked himself into rehab sometime before
Jason made the decision to leave and after James returned, he decided to leave. Due to growing
tensions before James left for rehab, they continued to use their motivational coach. Their coach
kept them from physically violent behavior towards each other and if he didn t, the band would
ve parted ways thus ending the career of one of the founding fathers of American Metal,
Metallica. Now dealing with only having three members, they needed to start looking for a new
bassist. They began auditions and they were able to snag a diamond in the rough, Rob Trujillo.
Rob s previous bands and associations consist of Suicidal Tendencies, Ozzy Osbourne, Zakk
Wylde, and Infectious Grooves. He has ferociously held his spot as the current bassist since
February 24th, 2003 with his easy going demeanor and mad finger plucking style giving him the
edge and drive that gave him the opportunity to be in, and play in Metallica. Now with a full
band, they began recording a new album titled, St. Anger . The St. Anger album was Rob s first
appearing album but it was also Metallica s most controversial album yet. It was a belligerent and
sometimes tinny sounding effort that put off some longtime fans due to no long solos by

Np Case Study
On Tuesday, ESPN had yet another pity party over Colin Kaepernick s unemployment, featuring
Josina Anderson and Ryan Clark. Anderson whined about how people were willing to give
Michael Vick a second chance while Clark attempted to point out the hypocrisy that the Giants
stood by kicker Josh Brown during his domestic violence dispute while fretting over the fans
reaction to potentially signing Kaepernick. This is the latest of ESPN s ardent defenses of the
failed NFL QB, ranging from questioning whether Kaepernick could sue the NFL (spoiler: he can
t) to staying stunningly silent when Kaepernick compared modern day police to slave patrols. All
of this is part of ESPN s rapid fall from sports giant to a political activist organization... Show more

Kaepernick is 3 16 as a starter in the last two years. As for Clark and Anderson s comments
above, the responses are simple. Vick committed a horrible crime, yet he repented, was
genuinely sorry, and has turned his life around. Not only does he now have a family dog, he
returned to the NFL in 2009 and posted his best career quarterback ratings over the course of the
rest of his career. Hence, he was actually good at his job. This is the point Clark seems to miss.
Josh Brown was a good kicker. Greg Hardy was a fantastic defensive lineman, which is why the
Cowboys gave him a one year deal after he had missed 15 games the year before for domestic
violence. Ray Rice still can t find a job after being caught on tape punching his wife in an
elevator, but he was also passed his prime. Meanwhile, Bengals rookie Joe Mixon is only 21, and
despite being also caught on tape punching a woman, he was a top draft prospect who will likely
start for the Bengals this next season. Teams are willing to overlook a player s personal history
if he has an ounce of value, and as seen above, Kaepernick hasn t shown any the last two years.
This is what makes ESPN s crusade so frustrating. Once the pinnacle of sports entertainment,
aspiring sports analysts like myself 6 7 years ago would give anything to appear on the network.
Now the on air talent typically shows less sports knowledge than your average citizen on the street.
ESPN ignores their own quarterback metrics to feign outrage over a

Bring Back Flogging
Bring Back Flogging This essay by Jeff Jacoby illustrates an authors use of ironic sarcasm
otherwise known as satire to defend and illustrate his platform on his position. Jacoby uses in this
essay verbal irony (persuasion in the form of ridicule). In the irony of this sort there is a contrast
between what is said and what is meant. Jacoby s claim in simple is he believes that flogging
should be brought back to replace the more standard conventional method of the imprisonment of
violent and non violent offenders. His grounds for the revival of flogging stems back to his initial
mention of the Puritan punishmentsystem. He cites how in 1632 Richard Hopkins was Flogged and
branded for selling guns and weapons to the Indians,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All this holds true assuming that public flogging serves it supposed purpose, and the terrible risks
of prison are a confirmed reality. When Jacoby in paragraph three states that today we are more
enlightened than our puritan forefathers where they used flogging we lock wrongdoers up in cages
, he is portraying a method of verbal irony (sarcasm). He continues his sarcastic voice when he lists
a criminal act and states that each punishment seems to be incarceration. His satire of the modern
day justice system is even more noticeable when he claims that prison is the all purpose, all in one
punishment. His final statement of the essay that perhaps the puritans where more enlightened than
we thought contradicts one of his initial statements concluding that we are more enlightened that
the puritans how we cage wrongdoers confirms his satire or verbal irony in his essay. The
question arises toward Jacoby s first reason for flogging. Jacoby s case for the overpopulation and
development of new institutions doesn t find favor in my eyes. Yes, the tax paying American is
paying for the prison system, but he also pays to employ many of the correction officers along with
the contractors who build and restore many of the institutions. Thus the

Andrew Jackson Essay With Outline
Andrew Jackson was conceived on March 15, 1767, in the Waxhaws locale on the fringe of North

The Final Game Before The Championship
Param Mehta
English 1/2 (3)
Short Story Rough Draft
The final game before the championship. We had been training for a month now and the gruesome
work had finally paid off. We were more than ready to march on the field and take the
championship. We won our league division and if we won the next game we play then we were
headed to the national championship. Our team had never won the championship and we really
wanted to win it. In the locker room before the game our coach emphatically said, You boys play
like it is the last game of your career. Nothing should stop you and when you touch the field I
want you to feel like winners. You see that trophy there, that is our trophy and when we go out on
the field we hold our heads high and we fight to win. We are winners and nothing in this world can
stand between us from the trophy. We were jumping up and down trying to get our blood flowing
and when the referees called us on the field.
Beep. The whistle blows. Our coach pumped us up with a great motivational speech to make us
play the hardest we could. We start shaky, however due to a couple of great saves by our
goalkeeper we were still in the game. At half time it was tied. We stuffed ourselves with oranges
before we ran on the field for the second half. Our team started off very well due to a great speech
by our coach and we gained a monstrous two zero lead. The win looked inevitable, however, our
team got way too confident and we let in two goals and before we knew it

The History of the Cosmological Argument for the...
Early elements of the Cosmological Argument were developed by the world renowned philosophers
Plato and Aristotle between the years 400 and 200 BC (Boeree). Medieval philosopher Saint
Thomas Aquinas expanded upon their ideas in the late 13th Century when he wrote, The Five
Ways. Since then the Cosmological Argument has become one of the most widely accepted and
criticized arguments for the existenceof God. My objective in this paper is to explain why the
Cosmological Argumentis a reasonable argument for the existence of God, the importance of
understanding that it is an inductive a posteriori argument, and defend my position against common
opposing arguments. To begin, as living human beings on the planet earth we can... Show more

This means that he relies only on himself to exist. On the other hand humans and all other natural
things in the Universe are considered contingent. An impossibility would be created if this was not
the case because a non contingent contingent would be created which is contradictory and not
logical (Thompson, 1955, pp. 345 346). Contrary to Saint Thomas, Theodore Schick Jr. argues in,
The Big Bang Argument for the Existence of God, which is included in our text God, that not all
things are caused. He points out that research in the area of quantum electrodynamics reveals,
...That an electron, positron, and photon occasionally emerge spontaneously in a perfect vacuum.
When this happens, the three particles exist for a brief time, and then annihilate each other, leaving
no trace behind (God, 153). Schick s argument against Saint Thomas argues is that since research
has found evidence that for a fraction of a millisecond an electron, positron, and photon seem to
appear on their own makes something in existence non contingent. This effectively debunks Saint
Thomas nearly 750 year old argument that all things in nature have a cause, right? Not necessarily.
While this finding of modern scientific research cannot yet be refuted or overlooked, inductive
experience still strongly supports the causal premise. Evidence of a cause behind all natural things

How To Stop The Boeing Plan
Upon review, Boeing should not undergo their plans in developing the 7E7 class of commercial
planes. In reviewing the information presented, and calculating additional estimates, three areas of
concern revealed themselves. They are the strength of the numerical information given, the plans
themselves, and the varying risks involved in the development of a new class of plan. To follow,
will be the justification for the decision to not continue with the development of the Boeing7E7, the
alternative if the plan is continued, and a detailed look at the risks involved in taking on the plan
as one of the three reasons to stop the project. The first problem area in Boeing s plan is that some

issue with the NPV, is that is fails to take into consideration the risks that are involved in the
project. As one of the primary areas of concern for Boeing, the risks, both internally and externally,

The thought of government drones buzzing overhead and constantly monitoring the activities of

Summary/Key results/Applicability:
The study compared four different core buildup material based on multiple categories: a dual cure
resin core ( Paracore), dual cure composite( Luxacore), silorane based composite(P 90 FiltekTm),
and amalgam core as the control group(1). 15 samples of each material were taken and placed in a
universal testing machine to determine their compressive strength, diametral tensile strength and
flexural strength levels. The results showed no statistically significant difference between the four

Collier County History Essay
Collier County History Collier County was created as one of many new counties during the
1920 land boom and was named after Barron Gift Collier a businessman who had a vision for the
growth and development of the southwestern coast of Florida. It is the state of Florida s 62nd

swamp buggy racing. Some of the first residents arrived centuries ago after migrating farther south
after the end of the last Ice Age. However, the first permanent settlers did not arrive until the 1880 s
when communities started to form along the respective Naplesand Immokalee territories (Collier

An Article On The Good News
Are you feeling stuck or paralyzed in your life or business? Do you spend way too much time on
the internet, reading your email, drinking coffee or the equivalent because you just can t focus on
work? The fact is that many people are slackers and drifters, with mediocre lives...
The good news is that in the teleconference series on The Missing Link to Success, we look at the
five components that I have found are central to creating a prosperous life. Here s the formula:
PASSION + PURPOSE + POSITION + PRODUCTIVITY + PEACE OF MIND = PROSPERITY
As well as the article called The Missing Link to Success, which provides an overview of the
whole series, there is an article for each of these Five Ps , so look for them wherever you found
this article! I m going to assume you ve read the summary article plus the articles on Passion,
Purpose and Position, because each components builds on the previous ones. Once you have reset
the first three Ps, you are ready to improve your capacity to be PRODUCTIVE.
What does this mean? Why is it important to be productive? The main dictionary definition of
productive is: yielding favorable or useful results; being constructive; effective in achieving
specified results. (There are also specialized meanings in economics, medicine and linguistics, but
the main meanings will do.)
In work terms, productivity means being able to focus on your assigned (or assumed) tasks, and to

The Russian Mafia Essay
The Russian Mafia
The Russian Mafia: Protectionism in the New Capitalist Russia The Russian Mafia has always
exercised an important role in the Russian economy. The contemporary mafiosi are descendents of
the seventeenth Century highwaymen and Cossack robbers. These men occasionally murdered
families prior to raids preventing them from being captured. The Russia mafiosi made a point to
remain aloof from the state. Mob men were actually spurned when returning home from fighting in
the Great Patriotic War. The gangs begin to dominate markets such as car sales, spare parts,

Most entrepreneurs purchase the protection. Then the new company pays unofficial taxes to crime

Gustatson estimates that payments can are approximately twenty percent of the profit (105). This
is a major form of taxation on top of what the government already commands leading many
companies to tax evasion or concealing their exact value. These acts forfeit what little protection the
authorities might be able to render. The mafia demands a cut of the earnings but in turn furnish
more than adequate security. The mafiosi provides protection from unaffiliated criminals and rival
gangs. They ensure that property is not damaged or stolen. If entrepreneurs are visited by another
organization, they must only summon their own mafia group. The two gangs will settle the matter
themselves (Gustatson 105). This security is an asset that the State seemingly fails to provide. The
Russian Mafia has more men and weapons than the Russian law enforcement. The police force is
an intently corrupt place as is much of the Russian government. Both army officers and law
enforcers are frantic for cash and willing to sell weapons such as guns, grenades, and rocket

Cryptococcus Neoformans is a Basidiomycetous Yeast Fungus
Introduction/Background
Cryptococcus neoformans is a basidiomycetous yeast fungus that is enclosed with a polysaccharide
capsule. C. neoformans can undergo sexual reproduction that is due to crossing О± and a mating
types, resulting in the formation of sexual spores or basidiospores (Buchanan and Murphy, 1998). It
is an intracellular pathogen that affects more than one million individuals, resulting in over 700,000
deaths per year (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). Individuals become infected
with this pathogen when they inhale fungal particles from the various sources that C. neoformans
is found in: bird guano, decaying vegetables and soil (Upadhya et al. 2013). These particles then
enter the alveoli within the lungs. In individuals with a healthy immune system, the infection is
cleared or stays dormant until an imbalance of the immune system occurs. However, in individuals
with compromised immune systems such as those with HIV, cancer or those taking corticosteroid
medications; the fungus can disseminate and enter the central nervous system. Symptoms include
coughing, chest pain, fever, weight loss, pneumonia and respiratory distress syndrome as well as
meningoencephalitis that is fatal if left untreated (Bose et al. 2003; Upadhya et al. 2013).
Cell mediated immunity in the infected host is very important to respond to fungal invaders.

Symptoms And Treatment Of An Idiopathic Etiology
As previously reported, Ms. Noid referred herself for a voice evaluation because of a chronic,
persistent dysphonia characterized by severe hoarseness and breathiness. She had a recent ENT
report indicating a left adductor vocal cord paralysis which is paralyzed in the intermediate
position. Furthermore, she has reported that her symptoms have persisted for 18 months,
eliminating the possibility of an idiopathic etiology. After completing a voice evaluation,
recommendations for medical clearance would include evaluations performed by a laryngologist,
neurologist, and/or evaluations performed by professionals who would be part of the client s
medical team. The recommendation for treatment options would be begin by educating the client,
and providing her with behavioral and medical treatment options. Furthermore, Ms. Noid would be

presents with a left adductor vocal fold paralysis in the intermediate position (situated midway

The Early Development Of Human Consciousness
The early development of human consciousness seems to have given humans a genetic
predisposition to the belief in religion. During this early development many chemicals known as
entheogens were used during religious sacraments and ceremonies, especially during times when
religion was undergoing critical stages of development. Once early humans could communicate
concepts effectively they utilized experiences derived from such substances in the integration of
theological belief systems.
Describing psychoactive substances without using a word that has a negative connotation attached
to it can be difficult. In an effort to combat this problem, a committee under the chairmanship of
Carl Ruck described after trying out a number of words he came up with entheogen, god generated
within , which his committee unanimously adopted (Wasson 30). Psychoactive substances, or
entheogens, have been researched for years by scientists, however, research into their historical
significance is severely limited. The origin of religion cannot simply be looked at through the
perspective of entheogens, there are many factors associated with it which spread multiple fields.
Science, sociology, history, archeology, psychology, chemistry and botany all cross over when
researching this subject.
James McClenon has argued that the conceptions of religion have their origins in the evolution of
psychophysiological structures associated with hypnotizability. If one is susceptible to a hypnotic

How Revolutions Within Europe Over A 500 Year Period
In his book, Charles Tilly seeks to determine the circumstances surrounding revolutions within
Europe over a 500 year period. Tilly begins by defining revolution and then presents his hypothesis
that revolutions stem from the state s actions. According to the author, a revolution consists of two
parts, each broken into smaller parts of their own: a revolutionary situation and a revolutionary
outcome.
A revolutionary situation will consist of three qualifiers. First, a group, or coalition of groups, puts
forward a claim to control of the state. The group coming forward must have a claim that cannot
coexist with the current regime. This qualifier rules out issues between groups such as political
parties that are able to coexist with each other under a basic framework for government. Second, a
substantial amount of citizens must give the group support. If a group steps forward without
support from the citizens then the power for that group to enact change is handicapped. Third, the
rulers must be either unable or unwilling to silence the group. The rulers usually face this situation
when their military power has weakened or been spread too thin, giving this definition of revolution
a realist edge.
Revolutionary outcomes consist of four parts. Members of either side defecting to the other would
be considered a revolutionary outcome as it would swing state control into the favor of the group
receiving the defectors. In addition, either the group coming forward can

Examples Of Determinism In Arrival
Determinism and Free Will in Arrival
If you could see your whole life from start to finish, would you change things? This is one of the
heaviest hitting questions in the movie Arrival and it serves as the philosophical launching point
for my discussion here. This question comes from the main character Louise directed at her future
husband. As the movie progresses, we as viewers learn that the main character Louise has been
given the ability to see into the future. Part of these visions include the death of her future
daughter to a rare disease at a young age. Yet, even though she can see these events of the future
and even though she knows of the pain and suffering they will bring, she still chooses to follow
the same course of her life because she recognizes some type of greater purpose. It is through the
actions and decisions of Louise that this movie explicitly explores the notion of whether
knowledge of future events would affect or negate our concept of free will as human beings. Like

Rowlands discusses this in Chapter 9 of his book and he argues that this concept allows us to
understand what it means to be a human being and how we are to achieve authenticity in our lives.
Namely, this type of thinking causes us to live in the light of our death. To do so, we require a
different understanding of time, one that transcends our standard linear notions of a past, present,
and future. By having a being towards death understanding, we begin to see everything in relation
to the now. This understanding applies directly to our understanding of our mortality. As finite
beings, this mindset makes us confront our finite nature and creates a sense of meaning through the
reality of death. It is through this realization that we find our meaning and true

Hate Crimes Against African Americans
Hate crimes have affected African Americans in more ways than just violence; therefore, our
government needs to approach hate crimes differently. Aside of the fact that the United States has
elected the first African Americanpresident, hate crimes has still occurred before and during his
presidency. Of the 7,624 hate crimes committed in 2007 alone, 2,659 of those hate crimes were
done on African Americans ( Hate Crimes Against African Americans , 2012). From the history of
slavery, lynching, murders, the burning of crosses and churches, to the brutality that police officers

Stereotyping is a worldwide illness that has placed judgment on black men and women to the point
that they are limited to opportunity and advancement in the working world and the political
environment.
Although we are no longer in the 19th century, hate crimes are still much alive in the 21st century.
In late August, early September 2006, an African American student of Jena High School located in
Jena, Louisiana asked if he could sit under a tree on campus that was commonly known for only
white students to sit under (Christie, 2008). The very next day after the African American student
sat under that specific tree, three nooses were hanging from the tree. The school principal of Jena
High School found out that three white students were responsible for this incident. Even though
expulsion was recommended for the three white students, the superintendent of the school only
suspended them for three days.
Because of the ongoing racial tension, in December 2006, a fight broke from a White student
taunting some Black students supporting the incident of the nooses being hung from the tree in the
school courtyard (Christie, 2008). The White student was badly beaten and had to be hospitalized.
The African American students were later charged with attempted murder and conspiracy. The
African American students were between the ages of 15 and 17, facing up to 100 years in prison
without parole. African American residents of Jena, Louisiana stated

As the coalescence of realist and romantic narrative transforms Humbert s account of Lolita into an

As Nabokov depicts a character that tells a story that utilizes realism and romanticism that elicits a
sympathetic response from the readers, Humbert does not fall entirely under the designation of a
truly villainous character, but rather an antihero. However, as the aforementioned arguments
demonstrate that Humbert s evocative and provocative language depicts Dolores as a nymph, this
indicates that Humbert s image of Dolores is a distorted image plagued by his romantic fantasies.
While these romantic notions fundamentally allow Humbert to justify his actions to readers
because it depicts him as an upholder of the law, incriminates Lolita and transforms his pursuit of
Lolita into an immortalized account of romantic love, it does not allow Humbert to emerge from
the novel unscathed. Instead, Humbert s fusion of realism and romanticism denotes him as an
antihero because he is a controversial character, yet one that readers sympathize with in Nabokov s
novel. Consequently, this sympathy that Humbert attains from the readers allows him to
subversively critique the American national identity because it paradoxically commodifies youth
and beauty provocatively, yet also assigns stereotypical morals and ideas

Brave New World Aldous Huxley s Brave New World is a fictitious story about a future utopian

Another aspect of the Brave New World culture that is symbolically similar to our own culture, is

Ariel Sharon is a big bully. I do not justify Palestinian attacks on Israeli civilians, and I do believe
that Yasser Arafat supported terror strikes, but Sharon knows that he has the upper hand in the
whole situation. America is going to stand behind Israel, so Sharon makes all these crazy
demands from the Palestinians. He will give them some of their land, but Israel will control the
air space in the new Palestinian territory. Of course Palestine is not going to agree to that,
demands like that are absurd, but Sharon has the world on his side because when he blows up a
house full of Palestinians, it is referred to as a military action, but when Palestinians attack Israel
it is looked at as terrorism. President Bush and his cabinet of maniacs has created this entire
scare of terror attacks, and Ariel Sharon was the first person to jump on that bandwagon. This
was exactly what he needed to justify Israel beating up on Palestine and taking control of
Palestinian land. The United States spawned all of the enemies that we are fighting with today by
giving them aid. They gave aid to the Taliban to fight the Soviets during the cold war, they gave

Symbolism In The Divine Comedy
Every arrangement of words seems to be an understatement when mentioning the success and
influence of Dante s epic poem The Divine Comedy. An allegory is a story, poem, or picture that
can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one (Oxford
Dictionary). The Divine Comedy has provided inspiration for a large body of Western Art.
Originally published in the 14th century, his medieval poem written in the vernacular language of
the people has been the material for countless numbers of new editions containing illustrations.
Each artist finds their own clever way to express the messages in The Divine Comedy. The amount
of art dedicated to this epic poem is just as impressive as the poem itself.
Inferno appears to be the most popular of the three books, especially in the visual arts. Dante s is
a visual imagination (T.S. Elliot). Extremely detailed, the book describes Hell in the most powerful
visual terms. In the Inferno, Dante and the poet Virgil go to Hell where they witness the many
punishments for those who disobeyed God during their lives. Each layer of Hell, described in thirty
three cantos and one introductory canto, is unique and fitting for the soul and the specific sin that
was committed. (Web Gallery of Art, 2017)
The most accurate representation of the structure of Dante s Hell, Sandro Botticelli is responsible for
The Map of Hell, which depicts the nine circles of Hell. Described as a cave, the Map of Hell on
paper is in the shape of a funnel with layers. Each layer is a level of Hell described by Dante.
The levels get smaller and smaller until, at the bottom of the cave or funnel one sees a satanic like
beast at the bottom or core. Starting with Limbo and ending with Treachery, each layer is drawn
out in magnifying detail. Sandro Botticelli was an Italian painter of the early Renaissance, the
Florentine was alive from around 1445 to 1510 (Florence Inferno, 2017). The man responsible for
The Birth of Venus, a masterpiece that is referred to in both historical context and in pop culture,
he was a very decadent and detailed artist. His illustrations for The Divine Comedy were extremely
devoted to the text and very precise. They seem to reflect the recognizable

often do so en masse, during a fascinating spectacle called an arribada ( arrival in Spanish).
The nesting season runs from April to Mid July. And, sometime between about 45 to 70 days after
being laid, the eggs hatch, and the little ones make the perilous journey across the beach, into the
surf, and eventually to the open ocean, desperately dodging predators along the way. Their survival
at this point depends on sheer numbers and making it to the water before the hungry seagulls and
crabs can snatch them up.
Mature females (10 14 years old) that survive will eventually return to the beach on which they
were born to lay their own eggs. When these new hatchlings emerge, they must make their way
across the sand to the ocean, just as their mothers did, in order to imprint the scents of that

of life that has endured for over 45 million years.

these companies have had issues recently with their advertising. Recently there have been two
issues of false advertisingagainst Draftkings and one issue against FanDuel. The first issue of false
advertising against Draftkings actually came from FanDuel. On March 13th an article was
published by FORBES detailing how FanDuel s lawyers were preparing a letter to send to

Draftkings advertising that they were Draftkings claiming they had the largest weekly cash pools,

How Is Colonialism In Robinson Crusoe
Robinson Crusoe was published in 1719, it was the beginning of the 17th century that had
magnificent changes in the economic order. The rise of capitalism throughout the period
individuals to a system of evaluation that varied a little from aristocratic tradition. An individual
s place in the society was determined by the type of profession one does within the society.
According to Seidel Robinson, Crusoe represents a prototype of a culture, a religion and
ideology (1991: 50). He is then portrayed as a true Englishman who really loved to increase the
English territory and its autonomy. He is the figure of English imperialism, capitalism and more
especially colonialism. According to Reinhart colonialism in terms of a history of ideas constitutes
a developmental differential due to the control of one people by an alien or foreign one (2008:1).
Colonialism is not limited to a specific time or place. However, in the 16th century, colonialism
changed decisively because of technological developments in navigation that began to connect more

These engines are more powerful than regular engines and produce more power. Diesels are
slow to rev and have much lower max rpms that a gas engine. Cause of this diesels like turbos so
the air can be taken in quicker and the motor can burn the fuel better (Truck Trend). Diesels used
compressed air which is heated then fuel is shot in and combusts (Truck Trend).Because diesels

Diesel engines are able to burn much dirtier fuel and deliver more fuel energy diesel engines are
the engine of choice for most industrial jobs(Blackwell). Diesels soot is un burnt fuel. The
reason for the un burnt fuel is that the motor didn t have enough oxygen to mix with the fuel
(Truck Trend). High output diesels use more fuel than air which produces soot. As more fuel is
injected into the motor more soot is formed. The air/fuel ratio in diesel must be lean for
excessive amounts of black smoke not to be formed (Truck Trend). Soot is formed when all the

looking for a fresh start to wanting to honor friendship/family, or even for the sole purpose of

to veterans, but that land never materialized for most of them. He addresses this in context
stating, The truth was, none cared for them; the country was served, and faithfully served, and
that was that was deemed necessary. It was, soldiers, look to yourselves; we want no more of
you. I hope I shall one day find land enough to lay my bones in. If I chance to die in a civilized
country, none will deny me that. A dead body never begs a grave; thanks for that. Especially with
monetary inflation being high during the time of the war, many soldiers deserted the army in
order to provide for their families back home. The buying power of the new Continental dollar

Henry Ford
Intro Who is he? Henry Ford ( 1863 1943 ) was one of America s foremost industrialists. He
revolutionized production of the automobile/transportation. Ford was born on July 30, 1863, in a
place near Dearborn, Michigan. Over the years, he worked as an engineer for the Edison
Illuminating Company in Detroit. His first developed/built form of transport was gasoline
powered. He built a gasoline powered horseless carriage called the Quadricycle, in the shed behind
his home. Years later, Ford developed and built the Ford Model T car in 1908. He then developed
the assembly line made of production, revolutionizing the industry. Resulting in millions of cars
sold and becoming a world famous company head. The company s market dominance was lost, but
there was a lasting impact on other technological development and U.S. infrastructure. Enormously
influential in the industrial world, Henry Ford was also outspoken in the political realm. He drew
controversy for his pacifist stance during the early years of World War 1 and earned widespread
criticism for his anti Semitic views and writings.

The morning of December 6, 1917, two ship collided and exploded in Halifax harbour
destroying many parts of the city, killing almost 2000 people and injuring more than 9000.
Shortly before 9:00 am two ships began their journey in the harbour. The Mont Blanc contained
highly explosive picric acid, gun cotton, dynamites and many more explosive for the war. It was
headed towards the harbour. While also the Imo, the Belgian relief ship was heading out of the
narrow Halifax harbour for New York. For some reasons, both ships headed for the same point in
the crowded harbour. Both ships were unable to correct their positions in time to avoid the disaster.

Descriptions And Differences Of The Alpine And Desert...
The world has many ecosystems which has some similarities and some differences to each other. In
my essay I am going to contrast and compare the Alpine and Desert Ecosystems describing climates,
soils, plant adaptations and interactions between plants and animals.
First I would like to give an overview of each ecosystem and then compare their attributes.
Alpine Ecosystems can be found all around the world on great mountain ranges at an altitude of
10000 feet or more just below the snow line of the mountains for example in the Andes, Alps or
Rocky Mountains. Around 16% percent of the Earth s surface is part of this ecosystem.
The climate here is generally very cold which leads to the ground being mostly frozen. Due to this
dead plants cannot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also want to preserve the water they gained so they are mostly slower growing which takes
less energy therefore less food which means they do not use as much water.
They also developed a range of methods to scare animals away, but on the other hand they need
pollinators who in these areas are more active in the night so their flowers open at this time.
The main similarity between the plant adaptations in these ecosystems is that they grow small
because of the lack of nutrients in the soil, the wind and the extreme weather.
They also develop hairy leaves but for different reasons. In the Alpine Ecosystem they are doing it
to help them keep the warmth they gained during the day and also to break the wind and provide a
fairly warmer temperature around the plant. However in the Desert Ecosystem they do it to reduce
water loss.
Another similarity is that their leaves or flowers are turning during the day. But again it has
different causes. While in Alpine regions they want to absorb more sun this was, in Desert regions
they want to avoid losing water.
They have similarities in growing spine or needles instead of leaves because these are more
efficient in absorbing sunlight which is crucial for

Part A Sole Proprietorship: A type of business that is owned by and run by one person with no
legal difference between the business and the owner. It is easy to form with no cost or time to
initiate. It gives the owner the ability to self govern the business. There are drawbacks; only one
owner can be established not allowing a partner. Also, unlimited liability puts the owner s
personal assets in jeopardy with the creditors. В·LIABILITY The owner is held responsible for
all debts and expenses accrued by the company via the concept of unlimited liability. If the
expenses and debts aren t satisfied, the owner of the business can be sued for breach of contract.

that doesn t include the surnames of the partners; an assumed name certificate must be filed in the
same county as the business premise. In the event, there is no set premise for operations; an
assumed name certificate has to be filed in all counties of operation. ( Selecting a business, 2012)
В·CONVENIENCE or BURDEN General partnerships are easy to establish and dissolve. All
partners share gains, losses, and all liabilities. Limited Partnership: This partnership consists of a
blend of both general and limited partners. This kind of agreement/partnership lets the general
partner manage the entire operation, but they are still fully liable for debts. The limited partner only
invests his/her money, and can only lose what they invested. В·LIABILITY The general partner has

What Is The Implementation Of PPP In The Compensation System
3.1.1 Implementation Mechanisms
Implementation of PPP in the liability and compensation regime is seen through adequate reference
to mechanisms such as compulsory insurance and compensation funds whereby a ship owner is
required to constitute a fund with the Court for the total limit of his liability to avail the benefit of
limitation , and maintain compulsory insurance certified by the appropriate State authority for any
ship carrying more than 2,000 tons of oil .
3.1.2 Loss of Right to Limit Liability
There is very narrow scope for a ship owner to be exonerated from strict liability. It requires proof
that damage resulted from war or was wholly caused by an intentional act or omission of a third
party or by negligence of an authority ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Small Tanker Oil Pollution Indemnification Fund (STOPIA) was established to raise maximum
amount of compensation payable for small ships and the Tanker Oil Pollution Indemnification
Agreement (TOPIA) was established to indemnify the supplementary fund 50% of the
compensation amount it pays in event of an oil pollution accident.
Considering the costs of some of the biggest oil spills in history, the SF holds adequate funds to
deal with oil spills of high magnitudes; till date no incident has required compensation from the SF
. The liability and compensation provisions of the CLC and FC satisfy the main components the
PPP by allowing the victims impartial access to remedies and allocating costs of pollution damage,
emergency response and clean up to the polluters .
The abovementioned factors show that the Conventions have come a far way in achieving a
perfect balance in burden sharing among the shipping and oil industries, adapting the polluter pays
theory to the extent feasible. Disturbing this balance for the few incidents where admissible claims
exceeded the limits under the 1992 CLC and FC would mean disturbing a widely accepted, well
tested and successful system operating on an international level .
An interesting view is raised by Chao Wu in his paper on threats to the International Convention
System; he questions the fairness in expecting the transporter and cargo owners to bear all the costs

The Fight For Women s Suffrage Movement
The Fight For Women s Suffrage
The Women s Suffrage Movement of the 1920 s worked to grant women the right to vote
nationally, thereby allowing women more political equality. Due to many industrial and social
changes during the early 19th century, many women were involved in social advocacy efforts,
which eventually led them to advocate for their own right to vote and take part in government
agencies. Women have been an integral part of society, working to help those in need, which then
fueled a desire to advocate for their own social and political equality. While many women worked
tirelessly for the vote, many obstacles, factions, and ultimately time would pass in order for women
to see the vote on the national level. The 19th Amendment, providing women the right to vote,
enable women further their pursuit for full inclusion in the working of American society.
The Female Advocates
These influential women are most widely known suffragist of their generation and has become
icons of the women suffrage movement. These independent, bold, and intelligent female pioneers
paved the way for so many women different races, and nationalities to come together as one for a
common cause. These women are known today as idols, icons, and activists. Those women that
took a stand when no one else would be: Susan B. Anthony, Alice Paul, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and
Lucy Stone. These women believed that all American women, just like men, deserve the rights and
responsibilities of citizenship.

Essay on The Butter Fly Effect by Eric Bress and J. Mackye...
The butterfly effect is written and directed by Eric Bress and J.Mackye Gruber the film has a
pretty great casting and has Ashton Kutcher, Amy Smart, Elden Henson, Eric Stoltz, Melora
Walters, Cameron Bright, William Lee Scott, Ethan Suplee and Logan Lerman. The movie is
about Evan Treborn played by Ashton Kutcher, now, when he was younger he deled with abuse,
drama, and suffered a lot of black outs and it follows when he is 7 years old and when he is 13
years old and then when you see him in the present day. During his life a lot of things ended up

much the evil villain in the movie, he is Kayleigh`s brother and he goes through a lot of
character`s transformation as well, but the majority of the movie he is evil and sinister as he
can be, and he doesn t really like Evan because he is dating her sister. And Evan`s mom, Melora
Walters as Magnolia, and she is this kind of pushy mother as her son is always getting involved
in this serious bad situation and she always put trough as a single mother to be able to keep up
with her son and keeping him out of all the trouble. And then we have Eric Stoltz that plays
Kayleigh`s and Tommy`s father, he is kind of this weird, crippy paedophile father and he treats a
lot of distraction towards the second half of the film. And then you have Ethan Suplee, who
keeps on traveling back in time, And if Lenny is not his friend (Evan`s), then Ethan Suplee is
and he`s always got someone to kind of fall back to every dramatic moment in his life that he
keeps going back. Ethen Suplee is a little bit crazy in this movie. And last but not least Logan
Lerman when Evan is 7 years old. A lot of crazy stuff that happen in Evan s life is that he goes a
lot back when he was a kid to all the drama and abuse. The cinematographic of this film has blue

Airborne Express Case Study 1
Executive summary
Airborne Express is the third largest and fastest growing international air express delivery
company in America. It held roughly 16% of the domestic express mail market by 1997. It
provides time sensitive delivery of documents, letters, small packages, and freight in the United
States and internationally. The company has several advantages over its rivals, such as it provides
delivery services at a lower cost of up to 20% over FedEx and UPS; it operates the nation s only
privately owned foreign trade zone in Wilmington; it is more flexible and provides more customer
tailored services. It charges lower price but still much guarantee delivery dates (not offered by the
US Postal Service).

Competition: the US domestic express mail market is somewhat in an oligopoly status. The
competition among the big three is quite fierce. Yet normally FedEx and UPS lead the market. The
six other second tier players do not have any threats to the three major players.
The US Postal Service served much of the rest of the market. However, it has a limited popularity
just among residential customers because it is inefficient in package tracking and has a much
worse on time delivery record. It has a legal monopoly for first class letters. But the company is
prohibited by law from offering volume discounts to customers.
DHL and TNT focus on the international market and trans border shipments. DHL offer hard to
reach service since it has hubs in many other different places in the world. It has never invested
heavily in domestic market. TNT focuses its effort on Europe.
BAX Global focuses on heavy cargo. RPS does not offer overnight delivery. It focused on two day
delivery via a ground network. It is known for its efficient ground transportation and its
sophisticated information technology.
The traditional express industry is threatened by facsimile and electronic mails, which have zero
cost. Competition between FedEx and UPS has caused a lower price and more innovations. The
industry is quite consolidated and has a very high barrier to

How Has Middle School Influenced Me

To move from an elementary school to a middle school it was a huge change. Such as, more

Cubism Symbolism
The transition from Cubism to De Stijl can be seen through the works of Pablo Picasso s Three
Musicians, Theo van Doesburg s Card Players, and Piet Mondrian s Tableau No. II with Red,
Blue, Black, Yellow, and Gray. One can see the transition from geometric shapes creating people
to just using geometric shapes to create a grid. Among the generic shapes that change each has
much different symbolism and history. In Picasso s Three Musicians the subject matter, from
left to right, consists of a pierrot, a harlequin, a monk, and a dog hidden behind the harlequin s
legs. There are two versions of this piece, both created in 1921. Even though it was nearing the
end of Cubism, Picasso s highlights the aspects of Synthetic Cubism. Even at the end of the
movement, the shapes can portray it as paper cut outs, from which the style began. The
background and foreground are all dark, the only brightness in the piece are the three subjects.
The pierrot and harlequin are part of the old Italian theater called Commedia dell arte. The pierrot
and the monk represent Picasso s close friends. Guillaume Apollinaire, representing the pierrot, was
a poet who was one of the major players in the surrealist movement, who had recently died. Max
Jacob, the monk, another poet was the one who had introduced Picasso to Apollinaire, and had
recently started to live in a monestary. The Harlequin represents Picasso himself, as he used this
subject in multiple paintings of him to represent himself. The

How Molecules Move Across The Gradient Lab Report
Trying to Diffuse the Tension: How Molecules Move Across A Gradient
Introduction Diffusion is defined as the, process by which molecules intermingle as a result of their
kinetic energy of random motion. (Nave, n.d.). By random motion, it means that no energy input is
needed for the molecules to move across the gradient. In the example of potassium iodide and the
cornstarch, the potassium iodide moved across the gradient which caused the cornstarch to take on
the purplish color. Osmosis is the diffusion within water in which a semi permeable membrane
allows for a higher concentration solution to diffuse across said membrane into the lower
concentration solution. Osmosis drives most biological processes allowing for equilibrium to be
met and the transportation of molecules to occur (Nave, n.d.). However, larger biological molecules
cannot pass through semipermeable membranes such as sucrose and starch ( GCSE Biology... ,
n.d.). Within this experiment, the percent change of weight must be calculated to be able to
quantitatively define the concentration movement of the molecules across the gradient. The
equation for the percent change in weight is:
% change in weight = [(change in weight)/(initial weight)] * 100
This equation allows for one to be able to identify if the change in weight is significant to a given
experiment. In this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Metallica Vs 1980 s When talking about Metallica s history, is there a better decade than the 1980 s? Without it, fans wouldn t even have the band, let alone their four greatest albums that paved the road for American Metal. With all things to celebrate from this decade, with lots of ups and downs such as the departure of bandmates to the death of a beloved band mate, Metallicawouldn t be what it is without the 1980 s. Thesis: Metallica may have started out in the state of California, but they have become famously known to many countries all across the globe. 1. In The Beginning It was the year 1981, a young drummer by the name of Lars Ulrich has published an ad in a local newspaper in the city of Los Angeles. In that ad, he states that he is A drummer looking... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It got so bad that his wife threw him out of the house because his actions at work were following him home and she was gonna put up with it. He checked himself into rehab sometime before Jason made the decision to leave and after James returned, he decided to leave. Due to growing tensions before James left for rehab, they continued to use their motivational coach. Their coach kept them from physically violent behavior towards each other and if he didn t, the band would ve parted ways thus ending the career of one of the founding fathers of American Metal, Metallica. Now dealing with only having three members, they needed to start looking for a new bassist. They began auditions and they were able to snag a diamond in the rough, Rob Trujillo. Rob s previous bands and associations consist of Suicidal Tendencies, Ozzy Osbourne, Zakk Wylde, and Infectious Grooves. He has ferociously held his spot as the current bassist since February 24th, 2003 with his easy going demeanor and mad finger plucking style giving him the edge and drive that gave him the opportunity to be in, and play in Metallica. Now with a full band, they began recording a new album titled, St. Anger . The St. Anger album was Rob s first appearing album but it was also Metallica s most controversial album yet. It was a belligerent and sometimes tinny sounding effort that put off some longtime fans due to no long solos by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Np Case Study On Tuesday, ESPN had yet another pity party over Colin Kaepernick s unemployment, featuring Josina Anderson and Ryan Clark. Anderson whined about how people were willing to give Michael Vick a second chance while Clark attempted to point out the hypocrisy that the Giants stood by kicker Josh Brown during his domestic violence dispute while fretting over the fans reaction to potentially signing Kaepernick. This is the latest of ESPN s ardent defenses of the failed NFL QB, ranging from questioning whether Kaepernick could sue the NFL (spoiler: he can t) to staying stunningly silent when Kaepernick compared modern day police to slave patrols. All of this is part of ESPN s rapid fall from sports giant to a political activist organization... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kaepernick is 3 16 as a starter in the last two years. As for Clark and Anderson s comments above, the responses are simple. Vick committed a horrible crime, yet he repented, was genuinely sorry, and has turned his life around. Not only does he now have a family dog, he returned to the NFL in 2009 and posted his best career quarterback ratings over the course of the rest of his career. Hence, he was actually good at his job. This is the point Clark seems to miss. Josh Brown was a good kicker. Greg Hardy was a fantastic defensive lineman, which is why the Cowboys gave him a one year deal after he had missed 15 games the year before for domestic violence. Ray Rice still can t find a job after being caught on tape punching his wife in an elevator, but he was also passed his prime. Meanwhile, Bengals rookie Joe Mixon is only 21, and despite being also caught on tape punching a woman, he was a top draft prospect who will likely start for the Bengals this next season. Teams are willing to overlook a player s personal history if he has an ounce of value, and as seen above, Kaepernick hasn t shown any the last two years. This is what makes ESPN s crusade so frustrating. Once the pinnacle of sports entertainment, aspiring sports analysts like myself 6 7 years ago would give anything to appear on the network. Now the on air talent typically shows less sports knowledge than your average citizen on the street. ESPN ignores their own quarterback metrics to feign outrage over a ... • 4. Bring Back Flogging Bring Back Flogging This essay by Jeff Jacoby illustrates an authors use of ironic sarcasm otherwise known as satire to defend and illustrate his platform on his position. Jacoby uses in this essay verbal irony (persuasion in the form of ridicule). In the irony of this sort there is a contrast between what is said and what is meant. Jacoby s claim in simple is he believes that flogging should be brought back to replace the more standard conventional method of the imprisonment of violent and non violent offenders. His grounds for the revival of flogging stems back to his initial mention of the Puritan punishmentsystem. He cites how in 1632 Richard Hopkins was Flogged and branded for selling guns and weapons to the Indians,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All this holds true assuming that public flogging serves it supposed purpose, and the terrible risks of prison are a confirmed reality. When Jacoby in paragraph three states that today we are more enlightened than our puritan forefathers where they used flogging we lock wrongdoers up in cages , he is portraying a method of verbal irony (sarcasm). He continues his sarcastic voice when he lists a criminal act and states that each punishment seems to be incarceration. His satire of the modern day justice system is even more noticeable when he claims that prison is the all purpose, all in one punishment. His final statement of the essay that perhaps the puritans where more enlightened than we thought contradicts one of his initial statements concluding that we are more enlightened that the puritans how we cage wrongdoers confirms his satire or verbal irony in his essay. The question arises toward Jacoby s first reason for flogging. Jacoby s case for the overpopulation and development of new institutions doesn t find favor in my eyes. Yes, the tax paying American is paying for the prison system, but he also pays to employ many of the correction officers along with the contractors who build and restore many of the institutions. Thus the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Final Game Before The Championship Param Mehta English 1/2 (3) Short Story Rough Draft The final game before the championship. We had been training for a month now and the gruesome work had finally paid off. We were more than ready to march on the field and take the championship. We won our league division and if we won the next game we play then we were headed to the national championship. Our team had never won the championship and we really wanted to win it. In the locker room before the game our coach emphatically said, You boys play like it is the last game of your career. Nothing should stop you and when you touch the field I want you to feel like winners. You see that trophy there, that is our trophy and when we go out on the field we hold our heads high and we fight to win. We are winners and nothing in this world can stand between us from the trophy. We were jumping up and down trying to get our blood flowing and when the referees called us on the field. Beep. The whistle blows. Our coach pumped us up with a great motivational speech to make us play the hardest we could. We start shaky, however due to a couple of great saves by our goalkeeper we were still in the game. At half time it was tied. We stuffed ourselves with oranges before we ran on the field for the second half. Our team started off very well due to a great speech by our coach and we gained a monstrous two zero lead. Early elements of the Cosmological Argument were developed by the world renowned philosophers Plato and Aristotle between the years 400 and 200 BC (Boeree). Medieval philosopher Saint Thomas Aquinas expanded upon their ideas in the late 13th Century when he wrote, The Five Ways. Since then the Cosmological Argument has become one of the most widely accepted and criticized arguments for the existenceof God. My objective in this paper is to explain why the Cosmological Argumentis a reasonable argument for the existence of God, the importance of understanding that it is an inductive a posteriori argument, and defend my position against common opposing arguments. On the other hand humans and all other natural things in the Universe are considered contingent. An impossibility would be created if this was not the case because a non contingent contingent would be created which is contradictory and not logical (Thompson, 1955, pp. 345 346). Contrary to Saint Thomas, Theodore Schick Jr. argues in, The Big Bang Argument for the Existence of God, which is included in our text God, that not all things are caused. He points out that research in the area of quantum electrodynamics reveals, ...That an electron, positron, and photon occasionally emerge spontaneously in a perfect vacuum. When this happens, the three particles exist for a brief time, and then annihilate each other, leaving no trace behind (God, 153). Schick s argument against Saint Thomas argues is that since research has found evidence that for a fraction of a millisecond an electron, positron, and photon seem to appear on their own makes something in existence non contingent. This effectively debunks Saint Thomas nearly 750 year old argument that all things in nature have a cause, right? Not necessarily. While this finding of modern scientific research cannot yet be refuted or overlooked, inductive experience still strongly supports the causal premise. C. neoformans can undergo sexual reproduction that is due to crossing О± and a mating types, resulting in the formation of sexual spores or basidiospores (Buchanan and Murphy, 1998). It is an intracellular pathogen that affects more than one million individuals, resulting in over 700,000 deaths per year (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). Individuals become infected with this pathogen when they inhale fungal particles from the various sources that C. neoformans is found in: bird guano, decaying vegetables and soil (Upadhya et al. 2013). These particles then enter the alveoli within the lungs. In individuals with a healthy immune system, the infection is cleared or stays dormant until an imbalance of the immune system occurs. However, in individuals with compromised immune systems such as those with HIV, cancer or those taking corticosteroid medications; the fungus can disseminate and enter the central nervous system. Symptoms include coughing, chest pain, fever, weight loss, pneumonia and respiratory distress syndrome as well as meningoencephalitis that is fatal if left untreated (Bose et al. 2003; Upadhya et al. 2013). During this early development many chemicals known as entheogens were used during religious sacraments and ceremonies, especially during times when religion was undergoing critical stages of development. Once early humans could communicate concepts effectively they utilized experiences derived from such substances in the integration of theological belief systems. Describing psychoactive substances without using a word that has a negative connotation attached to it can be difficult. In an effort to combat this problem, a committee under the chairmanship of Carl Ruck described after trying out a number of words he came up with entheogen, god generated within , which his committee unanimously adopted (Wasson 30). Psychoactive substances, or entheogens, have been researched for years by scientists, however, research into their historical significance is severely limited. The origin of religion cannot simply be looked at through the perspective of entheogens, there are many factors associated with it which spread multiple fields. Science, sociology, history, archeology, psychology, chemistry and botany all cross over when researching this subject. • 22. How Revolutions Within Europe Over A 500 Year Period In his book, Charles Tilly seeks to determine the circumstances surrounding revolutions within Europe over a 500 year period. Tilly begins by defining revolution and then presents his hypothesis that revolutions stem from the state s actions. According to the author, a revolution consists of two parts, each broken into smaller parts of their own: a revolutionary situation and a revolutionary outcome. A revolutionary situation will consist of three qualifiers. First, a group, or coalition of groups, puts forward a claim to control of the state. The group coming forward must have a claim that cannot coexist with the current regime. This qualifier rules out issues between groups such as political parties that are able to coexist with each other under a basic framework for government. Second, a substantial amount of citizens must give the group support. If a group steps forward without support from the citizens then the power for that group to enact change is handicapped. Third, the rulers must be either unable or unwilling to silence the group. The rulers usually face this situation when their military power has weakened or been spread too thin, giving this definition of revolution a realist edge. Revolutionary outcomes consist of four parts. Members of either side defecting to the other would be considered a revolutionary outcome as it would swing state control into the favor of the group receiving the defectors. In addition, either the group coming forward can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Examples Of Determinism In Arrival Determinism and Free Will in Arrival If you could see your whole life from start to finish, would you change things? This is one of the heaviest hitting questions in the movie Arrival and it serves as the philosophical launching point for my discussion here. This question comes from the main character Louise directed at her future husband. As the movie progresses, we as viewers learn that the main character Louise has been given the ability to see into the future. Part of these visions include the death of her future daughter to a rare disease at a young age. Yet, even though she can see these events of the future and even though she knows of the pain and suffering they will bring, she still chooses to follow the same course of her life because she recognizes some type of greater purpose. It is through the actions and decisions of Louise that this movie explicitly explores the notion of whether knowledge of future events would affect or negate our concept of free will as human beings. To do so, we require a different understanding of time, one that transcends our standard linear notions of a past, present, and future. By having a being towards death understanding, we begin to see everything in relation to the now. This understanding applies directly to our understanding of our mortality. An allegory is a story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one (Oxford Dictionary). The Divine Comedy has provided inspiration for a large body of Western Art. Originally published in the 14th century, his medieval poem written in the vernacular language of the people has been the material for countless numbers of new editions containing illustrations. Each artist finds their own clever way to express the messages in The Divine Comedy. The amount of art dedicated to this epic poem is just as impressive as the poem itself. Inferno appears to be the most popular of the three books, especially in the visual arts. Dante s is a visual imagination (T.S. Elliot). Extremely detailed, the book describes Hell in the most powerful visual terms. In the Inferno, Dante and the poet Virgil go to Hell where they witness the many punishments for those who disobeyed God during their lives. Each layer of Hell, described in thirty three cantos and one introductory canto, is unique and fitting for the soul and the specific sin that was committed. (Web Gallery of Art, 2017) The most accurate representation of the structure of Dante s Hell, Sandro Botticelli is responsible for The Map of Hell, which depicts the nine circles of Hell. Described as a cave, the Map of Hell on paper is in the shape of a funnel with layers. Each layer is a level of Hell described by Dante. The levels get smaller and smaller until, at the bottom of the cave or funnel one sees a satanic like beast at the bottom or core. Starting with Limbo and ending with Treachery, each layer is drawn out in magnifying detail. Sandro Botticelli was an Italian painter of the early Renaissance, the Florentine was alive from around 1445 to 1510 (Florence Inferno, 2017). Mature females (10 14 years old) that survive will eventually return to the beach on which they were born to lay their own eggs. When these new hatchlings emerge, they must make their way across the sand to the ocean, just as their mothers did, in order to imprint the scents of that particular beach on the females. In this way, they will know where to return to continue this cycle of life that has endured for over 45 million years. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reagan knows that the children are going to be the future astronauts and shuttle engineers, so he is essentially trying to reassure them that, though this is what can happen to pioneers, this is the only way progress can be made. Both of these companies have had issues recently with their advertising. Recently there have been two issues of false advertisingagainst Draftkings and one issue against FanDuel. The first issue of false advertising against Draftkings actually came from FanDuel. On March 13th an article was published by FORBES detailing how FanDuel s lawyers were preparing a letter to send to Draftkings explaining how they thought that the advertisements were not legal and why they should be taken down. If they refused FanDuel would begin filing a lawsuit. The issue resided in Draftkings advertising that they were Draftkings claiming they had the largest weekly cash pools, and claiming to be the #1 destination for daily fantasy sports on the internet, while FanDuel believed that they had the numbers to prove that Draftkings was wrong (Major Storm). Due to the issues that FanDuel raised Draftkings was forced to change the way they marketed. Draftkings resolved the issues before FanDuel took them to court. The main similarity between the plant adaptations in these ecosystems is that they grow small because of the lack of nutrients in the soil, the wind and the extreme weather. They also develop hairy leaves but for different reasons. In the Alpine Ecosystem they are doing it to help them keep the warmth they gained during the day and also to break the wind and provide a fairly warmer temperature around the plant. Cubism Symbolism The transition from Cubism to De Stijl can be seen through the works of Pablo Picasso s Three Musicians, Theo van Doesburg s Card Players, and Piet Mondrian s Tableau No. II with Red, Blue, Black, Yellow, and Gray. One can see the transition from geometric shapes creating people to just using geometric shapes to create a grid. Among the generic shapes that change each has much different symbolism and history. In Picasso s Three Musicians the subject matter, from left to right, consists of a pierrot, a harlequin, a monk, and a dog hidden behind the harlequin s legs. There are two versions of this piece, both created in 1921. Even though it was nearing the end of Cubism, Picasso s highlights the aspects of Synthetic Cubism. Even at the end of the movement, the shapes can portray it as paper cut outs, from which the style began. How Molecules Move Across The Gradient Lab Report Trying to Diffuse the Tension: How Molecules Move Across A Gradient Introduction Diffusion is defined as the, process by which molecules intermingle as a result of their kinetic energy of random motion. (Nave, n.d.). By random motion, it means that no energy input is needed for the molecules to move across the gradient. In the example of potassium iodide and the cornstarch, the potassium iodide moved across the gradient which caused the cornstarch to take on the purplish color. Osmosis is the diffusion within water in which a semi permeable membrane allows for a higher concentration solution to diffuse across said membrane into the lower concentration solution. Osmosis drives most biological processes allowing for equilibrium to be met and the transportation of molecules to occur (Nave, n.d.). However, larger biological molecules cannot pass through semipermeable membranes such as sucrose and starch ( GCSE Biology... , n.d.). Within this experiment, the percent change of weight must be calculated to be able to quantitatively define the concentration movement of the molecules across the gradient. The equation for the percent change in weight is: % change in weight = [(change in weight)/(initial weight)] * 100 This equation allows for one to be able to identify if the change in weight is significant to a given experiment. In this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The solution had a higher concentration of water molecules than the potato itself. This causes the water to move from the 0.0 M solution into the potato cells through osmosis. The water movement causes the mass to increase as well as make the potato to appear firmer. The cells enlarge and become more filled with water, which causes them to potato to appear firmer. However, it is also seen in the weight gain of the potato in the results section. This also appears to be the case for the 0.2 M and 0.3 M solutions as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
